Craft said his deputies went to Tharpe’s house to check on the girl and they found her severely beaten with acute bruises all over her body, her eyes were swollen shut, and her hair had been cut off. She was rushed by ambulance to a hospital to undergo treatment.

At the hospital, Craft said detectives interviewed the child and she told them that Singletary and Fulks had repeatedly beaten her with their fists and choked her until she lost consciousness. Craft said the 7-year-old told detectives “…she was tired and couldn't take the abuse any longer.”

Seoul mayor missing, his phone turned off, search underway

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The mayor of South Korea's capital, Seoul, was missing Thursday after leaving a message that his daughter described as sounding like a will, police said. A massive search was underway.

Police said they were looking for Mayor Park Won-soon near a small hill in Seoul’s Sungbuk neighborhood where his cellphone signal was last detected. They said the phone was currently turned off.

His daughter called police on Thursday afternoon and said her father left “a will-like” verbal message before leaving their home about 4-5 hours earlier. The daughter didn’t explain the contents of the message, said an officer at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency who was responsible for the search operation.

His daughter said she decided to call police because she couldn’t reach her father on the phone, the officer said, requesting anonymity because she was not authorized to speak to the media about the matter.

About 300-400 officers and a drone were mobilized in the search, according to police.

Kim Ji-hyeong, a Seoul Metropolitan Government official, said Park had not shown up for work on Thursday for unspecified reasons and had canceled all of his schedule, including a meeting with a presidential official at his Seoul City Hall office.

The reason for Park's disappearance wasn't clear. The Seoul-based SBS television network reported that one of Park’s secretaries had lodged a complaint with police on Wednesday night over alleged sexual harassment such as unwanted physical contact that began in 2017. Dr. Fauci is pumping about $500 million to $600 million in taxpayer money a year, or about a third of his biodefense budget, into product development. Much of that goes to companies. China enacts Hong Kong national security law

China's top legislative body has adopted a national security law for Hong Kong, marking a new phase in the territory's relationship to the mainland.

Hong Kong media say the law will likely come into effect on Wednesday, which marks the 23rd anniversary of Hong Kong's handover to China from British rule.

The National People's Congress Standing Committee unanimously approved the law on Tuesday. The new legislation lays out four criminal acts Beijing says threatens national security…secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign or external forces.

It also allows Chinese authorities to set up an agency inside the semi-autonomous territory and enables the city's Chief Executive to choose judges that oversee national security cases. Many Hong Kong residents have voiced concern the law undermines the "one country, two systems" framework, which is supposed to guarantee Hong Kong a high degree of autonomy and judicial independence. One protester says, " Hong Kong won't be the same. It's heartbreaking because I was born and raised in the territory. But there's nothing that can be done."

Another protester says, " I'm very angry. It could be an imminent threat to our safety." Meanwhile, political groups that could be targeted once the law goes into effect are disbanding.

Prominent pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong says the new law marks the beginning of a reign of terror, and will turn Hong Kong into a secret police state. He is calling on the international community to come up with concrete efforts to defend their "last bit of freedom." Wray made the revelation in an interview with Fox News aired on June 24.

While he isn’t identified by name in the report by the Department of Justice Inspector General (IG), Kevin Clinesmith was the FBI attorney who altered an email about Page’s association with the CIA by injecting “not a source” into the text, making it appear as though Page wasn’t affiliated with the spy agency.

Clinesmith’s alteration resulted in one of the “17 significant errors and omissions” identified by the IG in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications on Page.

“And that individual no longer works with the FBI, and I don’t want to get out in front of the Durham investigation,” Wray said, referring to the criminal inquiry being conducted by U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is looking into potential criminality tied to Crossfire Hurricane, the codename for the FBI’s probe of the Trump campaign.

After learning of Clinesmith’s email forgery, a judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court ordered the FBI to identify all of the surveillance applications Clinesmith was involved in. The court also barred Clinesmith from participating in the preparation of future FISA applications.

Council advances plan to dismantle Minneapolis Police Dept

The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously approved a radical proposal to change the city charter that would allow the police department to be dismantled, following mass public criticism of law enforcement over the killing of George Floyd.

The 12-0 vote is just the first step in a process that faces significant bureaucratic obstacles to make the November ballot, where the city’s voters would have the final say. And it came amid a spate of recent shootings in Minnesota’s largest city that have heightened many citizens’ concerns about talk of dismantling the department.

The Minneapolis force has come under heavy pressure since Floyd, a Black man in handcuffs, died May 25 after a police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes. Activists had long accused the department of being unable to change a racist and brutal culture, and earlier this month, a majority of the council proclaimed support for dismantling the department.

Doing so would first require amending the city charter. Draft language of the amendment posted online would replace the department with a Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention, “which will have responsibility for public safety services prioritizing a holistic, public health-oriented approach.”

The amendment goes on to say the director of the new agency would have “non-law-enforcement experience in community safety services, including but not limited to public health and/or restorative justice approaches.” It also provides for a division of licensed peace officers, who would answer to the department’s director.

The two populous southern states, home to some 50 million people, were spared the worst of the outbreak in spring but are now being struck hard.

The United States, already the hardest-hit country in the world with close to 125,000 deaths, never fully emerged from its first wave. Following a weeks-long plateau, new cases are once again back to where they were in April.

“At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican ally of President Donald Trump.

As a result, bars will be required to close but may continue providing delivery and take-out services. Other measures include that restaurants can remain open with 50 percent capacity indoors, and outdoor gatherings of 100 people or more require local government approval.

The stepmother of an Atlanta police officer who was charged with murder this week was fired from her job.

The company said in a statement that “it is imperative to maintain a safe environment for all employees.”

“Melissa Rolfe’s termination was a direct result of her actions in the workplace and violation of company policy,” Equity added. “While working with Melissa as she transitioned to a leave of absence granted by our organization, we discovered she violated company policy and created an uncomfortable working environment for many of our employees.”

Equity confirmed the firing following a report from Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.

On his show Thursday night, Carlson cited a source and said Rolfe was fired.

“Apparently, she was fired and her only crime was being Officer Rolfe’s stepmother,” he said.

Rolfe was told previously that her job was safe, according to the source.

CHOP Hosts Black-only Event in Park for Juneteenth; White ‘Allies’ Asked for Security, Money

The radical enclave in Seattle known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) will apparently feature a Juneteenth celebration on Friday that will be restricted to black people, while white people are being asked to provide security and donations. Fox News reported Friday that the CHOP, formerly known as the “CHAZ” (for Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone), would be entirely closed to white people. However, it appears that the segregation is only taking place in Cal Anderson Park. A Facebook page for the event, called “Juneteenth Blackout at the CHOP,”details the plans for the 12-hour observance: We’re blacking out CHOP…the viral death of black bodies was the catalyst for this current movement and we need to make sure we remain focused. This means both policy and systemic change to our systems and healing space for black people. So that’s exactly what we’re creating. A series of events in which we center black healing and community. What we need from our non-black allies are donations of money and supplies and the willingness to support by quietly protecting sacred space for black healing. We need allies on the outskirts who are willing to be a physical barrier of protection and to peacefully deter potential interruptions. We will be socially distancing. Please wear masks. If you don’t have one, we will have some extra available to make sure we are protecting ourselves.

Montana governor Steve Bullock kicked off his Senate campaign by claiming that he "won't answer to party bosses," just months after reports emerged that the Democrat bowed to pressure from Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) to break his pledge not to run in 2020.

Bullock emphasized in his first TV ad that he would not be beholden to party leaders after bowing to pressure from top Democrats to jump in the race. Though Bullock repeatedly dismissed a Senate bid during his unsuccessful presidential campaign—it was "something that never really got me excited," he said—Bullock buckled after closed-door meetings in February with Schumer and former president Barack Obama.

The Montana governor campaigned as a centrist when he was elected in 2012, but embraced several left-wing positions during his ill-fated presidential campaign. In June 2019, for example, Bullock flipped on his long-standing support for the state's coal plants, citing a U.N. recommendation to transition away from the energy source. He also expressed support for an assault weapons ban.

Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Jerry Nadler*, and other Democrat leaders knelt in the marbled halls of Congress for 8 minutes, in solidarity with people protesting over the death of George Floyd. [1] (*Mr. Nadler stood, as he was unable to kneel.)

Kente cloth is deeply intertwined with the history of the Ashanti nation. The Ashanti Empire (in Ghana, on today's map), emerged in the 17th century. Indian city Chennai reimposes lockdown amid flurry of new coronavirus cases

Authorities in the Tamil Nadu state capital Chennai are imposing a new 12-day strict lockdown amid a resurgence in coronavirus cases in the region. The new measures will begin from June 19.

Chennai city and three neighboring districts will reimpose lockdown measures for 12 days including two full days of complete lockdown

“Considering the spread of the virus and based on the recommendation of medical and health experts, an intense lockdown will be in force from 00.00hours of June 19 and midnight of June 30," chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said in a statement Monday.

The local government will provide Rs 1,000 ($13.15) cash support for all residents dependent on ration cards as well as other unspecified relief to help those struggling during the lockdowns.

All state and central government offices will function at 33 percent capacity while travel will be permitted only in the event of medical emergencies. Those living within containment zones will be exempted from work for the duration.

Meanwhile, shops providing essential groceries will be permitted to remain open for limited hours while restaurants will be permitted to provide takeaway and delivery services.

As of Sunday, Tamil Nadu had a reported 44,661 Covid-19 cases, 31,896 of which were recorded in Chennai. The state has recorded some 435 deaths, however, many have claimed the figures have been underreported and the figure is expected to rise.

West Point Mourns the Passing of C.J. Morgan

Cadet Christopher J. Morgan, Class of 2020 and member of the wrestling team, died due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident in the U.S. Military Academy's training area.

"Cadet C.J. Morgan was a valued member of the Corps of Cadets and will be missed by all. The entire community is ensuring that our cadets are being cared for physically, emotionally, and spiritually," said Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, 60th Superintendent, U. S. Military Academy. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Morgan family."

Morgan, 22, of West Orange, New Jersey, passed away at the scene of the accident. He was a Law and Legal Studies major, and a recruited athlete who was a standout member of the Army wrestling team.

"We are devastated by the news of Chris' passing. He was a talented, hardworking, and determined athlete who loved his sport," said Army West Point wrestling coach Kevin Ward. "Chris had an infectious personality with a smile big enough to fill any room, and a heart big enough to love everyone around him. He made everyone around him better and he will be greatly missed."
