California Gov. Gavin Newsom is facing pushback as state lawmakers have begun demanding details of his nearly $1 billion deal to receive 200 million masks per month from a Chinese manufacturer.

Just two weeks after announcing the deal, Newsom has remained largely mum on the specifics.

Advisers to the California Democrat have declined requests for comment from the Los Angeles Times about the agreement, which was inked with Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD — which stands for Build Your Dreams — earlier this month.

BYD was formed in 1995 as a battery manufacturer. In 2008, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway purchased a 24.8% stake in the company.

Since then, it has grown into one of the largest electric car makers and partnered with Toyota in November to launch a joint venture into electric car batteries.

The Buffett-backed company also operates a US subsidiary in Lancaster, California, which employs about 1,000 people, according to the Times.

Despite its growth under Buffett, the company announced it saw a 42% drop in profits from 2019, citing the coronavirus pandemic, cuts to government subsidies and changes to emissions rules in China.

Around the same time, the company said on its website that it had converted one of its manufacturing facilities into “the world’s largest mass-produced face masks plant,” adding that it would make 5 million masks per day in the fight against the spread of the virus.

After announcing the deal, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow pressed Newsom for details, though he would only say he had decided to utilize “the purchasing power” of California “as a nation-state,” and that of the 200 million masks, 150 million would be N95 masks and the remainder would be surgical masks.

Pressed by reporters this week about withholding details of the contract, Newsom maintained scant specifics.

“I’m for outcome here. Some are consumed by process, personality, intrigue. Who’s up, who’s down. We are for actually solving a major, major problem — not only for the state but potentially a template for the country,” he said.

The California Senate and Assembly have also been kept in the dark about the deal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“It would be great to get a heads-up directly from the governor’s office rather than watching it on national TV,” Assembly Budget Committee Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) said in an interview Wednesday with the Chronicle.

“We don’t have any information as to how many masks we’re buying, who we’re buying them from, at what price … What are we obligated? For how long are we obligated?”

Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Holly Mitchell (D-Los Angeles) sent a letter to the Newsom administration requesting full details, including quality standards and price per mask.

“Under normal circumstances, the Legislature would have had more time to deliberate an expenditure of this magnitude and would have been allowed to thoroughly vet the details of the contract before proceeding,” Mitchell wrote.

The paper reports that a Newsom administration official refused to provide state senators with a copy of the contract during a budget oversight hearing in Sacramento last Thursday, despite the state having already paid half the cost.

The state’s chief deputy director of the Office of Emergency Services told senators via videoconference that providing all specifics of the deal would risk disrupting the supply line of masks to the state.

A BYD spokesperson referred all questions about negotiations over the purchase of masks to Newsom’s office when reached by the Times.

A spokesperson for Newsom could not immediately be reached for comment by The Post.

Flashback: More Democrats than Republicans opposed Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968

While significant Republican support helped the landmark Civil Rights Acts pass, Democratic Party support among minorities has continued to increase since the 1960s.

Looking back on the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968 after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy recently called on Democrats to rename their party over its ties to the Confederacy and segregation laws, it was Democrats in Congress who voted against those bills in larger numbers than Republicans. Some liberal commentators, such as Charles Blow of the New York Times, are calling for lawmakers in Congress to work together to craft a Civil Rights Act of 2020 after the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police. The Civil Rights Acts of 1964 passed in the Democratic-led House 289-126 with 91 Democrats and 35 Republicans opposing it. The legislation passed in the Democratic-led Senate 73-27 with 21 Democrats and 6 Republicans in opposition. The bill included “injunctive relief against discrimination in public accommodation" and authorized the attorney general to "institute suits to protect constitutional rights in public facilities and public education, to extend the Commission on Civil Rights, to prevent discrimination in federally assisted programs.”

The Civil Rights Acts of 1968, which built on the civil rights legislation passed in 1964, passed in the Democratic-led House 327-93 with 67 Democrats opposing it and 25 Republicans in opposition. It passed in the Democratic-led Senate 71-20 with 17 Democrats and 3 Republicans opposed. The 1968 legislation “prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin or sex.” Both bills were signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. While significant Republican support helped the landmark civil rights bills pass, Democratic Party support among minorities, particularly African-American voters, has continued to increase since the 1960s.

Scott Morrison says allegations former High Court Justice Dyson Heydon sexually harassed associates 'very disturbing'

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has described allegations of former High Court Justice Dyson Heydon's sexual harassment of female associates as "very disturbing".

An independent inquiry found Justice Heydon harassed six judge's associates, and High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel said in a statement yesterday the court was "ashamed that this could have happened at the High Court of Australia".

"Allegations of this sort are obviously very disturbing and very concerning and they're incredibly serious," Mr Morrison said today.

He added the High Court was dealing with the matter but did not echo Bill Shorten's call for Justice Heydon's Companion of the Order of Australia to be stripped.

"It's not appropriate to presuppose those processes. That's not the way these things should be handled," Mr Morrison said.

"There should be a proper process to deal with this. There will be.

"They're very serious allegations. They're very concerning and very disturbing.

Mr Shorten told Today Justice Heydon should be stripped of his Australia Day honours.

"If you believe the women, this guy was using his job in a very predatory fashion. How does he keep the highest honour in Australia?" he said.

Law firm Maurice Blackburn has been instructed to pursue claims for compensation on behalf of three of the women who made sexual harassment claims against Justice Heydon.

Maurice Blackburn is representing three of the women, including Rachael Collins and Chelsea Tabart.

From its inception in 2005 through 2009, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) had already raised $46 billion for 1,200 philanthropic projects that were said to have impacted an estimated 200 million people in 150 countries. [4]

Actually the Clinton Foundation has morphed since its inception and gone through several name changes, and created a great number of related entities. Its original purpose was to fund and endow the Clinton Presidential Library. Its tax returns indicate a gradual change in purpose that never received IRS approval. The "charity" has been acting outside the scope of its legal charter for years. [14]

Jeffrey Epstein

"Attorneys for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein touted his close friendship with Bill Clinton and even claimed the billionaire helped start Clinton's controversial family foundation in a 2007 letter aimed at boosting his image during plea negotiations." [2] In the letter from Epstein’s lawyers (Alan Dershowitz and Gerald Lefcourt) to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of Florida, Epstein claimed to be part of the original group that conceived the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). CGI was renamed the "Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation" in 2013. The letter aimed to boost Epstein’s image and may have contributed to his successful plea bargain on the charge of using underage girls in a sex ring. The letter says Epstein hosted Bill Clinton on a 1-month trip to Africa regarding the AIDS crisis. [1] Whether Epstein was an actual founder of the foundation or exaggerated his role in a phony effort to appear altruistic is not clear. He is not cited in official paperwork filed by the Clinton Global Initiative as a founder or director. Bill Clinton publicly credited longtime assistant Doug Band as conceiving of the idea. [2]

Others CF Donors of Note

The Panama Papers revealed some major Clinton financial partners using Panamian law firm Mossack Fonseca to move assets around the world surreptitiously. Canadian mining magnate Frank Giustra donated over $25M. The Chagoury family of Nigeria committed $1 billion to the Clinton Global Initiative. [3]

Offshore entities were involved in the uranium deal that resulted in Russian ownership of 20% of American uranium production. Frank Giustra used Mossack Fonseca to create UrAsia Energy, which acquired lucrative uranium concessions in Kazakhstan with the help of Bill Clinton in 2005. UrAsia Energy eventually became Uranium One, which acquired uranium assets in the U.S. and then was sold to the Russian State Nuclear Agency (ROSATOM) in 2010. The deal required approval from Hillary Clinton’s State Department. Nine Uranium One shareholders sent a combined $145M to the Clinton Foundation, including a single contribution of over $2M by CEO Ian Telfer. Why did the Clinton Foundation neglect to report some of those contributions? They were first uncovered using Canadian tax records by the authors of Clinton Cash. [3]

Sergei Kurzin, a Russian mining investor involved in Uranium One, says he donated $1M to Clinton Foundation. He also used Mossack Fonseca; his name appears on several oil companies set up by the firm.

Mossack Fonseca helped Ronald Chagoury set up a firm called Echo Art Ltd. domiciled in the British Virgin Islands. Gilbert Chagoury’s plans for the future include tying up the best of African industry to the resource needs of China, India and Latin America. This family moved to Nigeria but the came from Lebanon. [15] Among other business interestsm they deal in Transportation. Chagoury Group is a Nigerian multinational business conglomerate headquartered in Lagos. Founded in 1971 by Gilbert R. Chagoury and Ronald Chagoury, their businesses include construction and property development, flour mills, water bottling and purification, glass manufacturing, insurance, hotels, furniture manufacturing, telecommunications, transportation, IT, catering and international financing. [16]

Two years earlier in 2014, a whistleblower released the names of super-rich individuals with Swiss accounts at HSBC. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists then documented transfers of $81M from these accounts to The Clinton Foundation. They revealed that Swiss accounts were held by numerous Clinton donors. Jeffrey Epstein had various accounts totaling $3.5M; in 2006 Epstein gave $25,000 to The Clinton Foundation. [2]

Note that Epstein was a money-manager. He managed other people's money. (It's not clear why people gave him money to manage.) Did Epstein arrange the use of secret Swiss accounts for his clients?

British retail magnate Richard Caring gave the Clinton Foundation $1M from his HSBC Swiss account in 2005. He donated shortly after Bill Clinton attended his charity ball dressed as a Russian general. [add material from 7]

Frank Giustra's HSBC account held up to $10M in 2006-2007. His first contributions to the Clinton Foundation were in 2005. [3]

American entrepreneur Eli Broad, a $1M+ contributor to the Clinton Foundation, held accounts at HSBC.

Denise Rich, ex-wife of financier and one-time international fugitive Marc Rich, who was pardoned by President Bill Clinton on his last day in office, has contributed up to $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation. [3]

Other major CF donors included Michael Schumacher (a racing driver seriously injured in 2013 skiing accident) and French financier Arpad Busson.

Swiss bank accounts are not necessarily illegal. However, firms such as Fonseca offer services to minimize tax burdens and keep assets hidden.

Bill Clinton - Frequent Flyer on the Lolita Express

Epstein's flight logs show that BIll Clinton was a frequent flyer on Epstein's private jet dubbed the "Lolita Express". At least 26 flights are documented. [2]

On the first Asia trip, logs show Clinton and Epstein were joined by top Clinton aide Doug Band, wealthy socialite and Epstein's madame Ghislaine Maxwell, former Epstein assistant Sarah Kellen, women listed only as “Janice” and “Jessica," and a few others.

Band, Maxwell, and Kellen joined many of the trips that Clinton and Epstein took around the world.

No Secret Service agents were present on Clinton’s trip with Epstein to Africa in September-October 2002. Records show they were joined by actor Kevin Spacey and comedian Chris Tucker.

As the top prosecutorial role in each federal court district, the U.S. Attorney is in a unique position to view evidence collected across many federal investigations and to supervise staff prosecutors. They can direct DoJ resources to investigate and prosecute, or decline prosecution. The individual in this role - if corrupt - could theoretically protect criminals and help to conceal crimes.

Geoffrey Berman was appointed to the post of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) in __ by then-attorney-general Jeff Sessions. During his tenure Berman oversaw cases ranging from the insane persecution of Trump (re: tax returns), to the NXVIM sex-and-branding-cult, Epstein, Clinton Foundation, child rape, kidnapping, abuse, and murder. Did any potential defendants benefit from Berman's SDNY role?

Attorney General William Barr fired Berman on June 19, 2020. Berman refused to leave, stating that he would stay in office until a senate-confirmed replacement. However Barr told Berman he was dismissed by order of President Trump, and Berman stood down.

With the Berman roadblock removed, will the SDNY remain a Deep State stronghold or will there now be an opportunity to shine light on what some observers consider a nest of vipers?

Doug Band and Teneo

In 1995, at the age of 22, Band began to work as an unpaid intern in Bill Clinton's White House, eventually becoming Clinton’s "body man", and he continued to work with the former President as he set up the Clinton Foundation. [5]

Band later worked for the William J. Clinton Foundation, and traveled to North Korea to orchestrate the release of two Americans and to Cuba to help secure the release of American Alan Gross. [6]

Band negotiated with the Obama Administration to appoint then-Senator Hillary Clinton to become Secretary of State. [6]

Interestingly, Band had a key ally on Hillary’s team: Huma Abedin. Bill’s body man and Hillary’s body woman had bonded over their loyalty to their bosses. They were known to show up at parties together, which some saw as an endearing big brother–little sister dynamic, and which others interpreted as evidence that Abedin had a crush on Band. They also had an ingenious method of collecting intelligence on each other’s behalf. Abedin would sidle up to someone in Bill’s camp and, in a confiding tone, make a disparaging remark about Band. If it was reciprocated, she would relay the criticisms to Band and he would do the same for her, says someone who fell for this technique. “They had each other’s back a lot,” says the former White House colleague. [8]

Band founded his consultancy, Teneo, in 2011. Teneo's clients overlapped with the Clinton Foundation's donors. [5] Teneo is headquartered on the 45th floor of the former Citigroup Center tower in Midtown Manhattan. It employs more than 200 people in 13 cities, including Dubai, Hong Kong, and São Paolo. From the beginning, Teneo resembled an outpost of Clintonland more than an independent entity. Clinton and Blair came on as paid advisers. [8]

In 2012 (check date), Abedin signed on with the firm to provide “strategic advice and consulting services to the firm’s management team” and helped to “organize a major annual firm event.” (The Senate Judiciary Committee investigated whether Abedin's work for Teneo conflicted with her position as a paid State Department consultant.) [8]

A number of key Teneo clients were also closely involved with Clinton’s charitable work. One month before the Rockefeller Foundation presented Clinton with an award for philanthropy, it gave Teneo a $3.4 million contract to propose “tangible solutions to global problems.” [8]

In November 2011 emails, Chelsea Clinton accused Band and Teneo of giving their clients free memberships to the Clinton Global Initiative and “hustling business” at the conference. Band denied it, saying he persuaded Teneo clients to donate money to Bill Clinton’s charity projects, to hire Clinton for corporate speeches, and to serve on boards of directors. Band said he's raised $8M for the Clinton Foundation this way, and that his efforts to date had brought Clinton over $30M now and would bring him $60M over the next decade. He cited a for-profit university, Laureate, that paid Clinton $3.5M to serve as its “honorary chairman.” He listed Teneo's courtship of of the Coca-Cola CEO, Muhtar Kent. Band's partner Declan Kelly brought Kent to Clinton’s home in 2009 and persuaded him to make $4M corporate donations to CF. Oddly, Kent's name later turned up on a list of 39 potential VP that John Podesta sent to Hillary Clinton. [5]

More about James Comey

James Comey served on the board of banking giant HSBC (‘international drug money clearing house’) before parachuting softly into the head of the FBI in 2013. Comey had a long history of handling cases ending favorably to the Clintons, including the case of Sandy Berger, a former Clinton Administration aide. During the Berger probe, Comey said publicly that ‘we take issues of classified information very seriously’, all the while seeming to undermine the scope of the investigation – presumably to protect the Clintons. U.S. Attorney’s Office Shuts Down Website Promoting Prostitution and Sex Trafficking, Indicts Owner

The website CityXGuide.com — a leading source of online advertisements for prostitution and sex trafficking that users described as “taking over from where Backpage left off” — has been seized and its owner charged in a 28-count federal indictment, announced United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Erin Nealy Cox.

Wilhan Martono, 46, was indicted on June 2 on one count of promotion of prostitution and reckless disregard of sex trafficking, one count of interstate racketeering conspiracy (facilitating prostitution), nine counts of interstate transportation in aid of racketeering (facilitating prostitution), and 17 counts of money laundering. He was arrested on June 17 in Fremont, California by Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Secret Service.

Shortly after the defendant’s arrest, CityXGuide was replaced with a splash page notifying users that the website had been seized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security pursuant to a warrant.

According to the indictment, Mr. Martono allegedly netted more than $21 million off a suite of illicit websites promoting prostitution and sex trafficking. He allegedly registered the domain names for several of the sites just one day after the FBI shut down Backpage.com, then the internet’s leading source of prostitution and sex trafficking advertisements.

Despite Terms of Use purportedly forbidding the advertisement of illegal sexual services, CityXGuide and its affiliated websites (Backpage.co, CAPleasures.com, and BodyRubShop.com, among others) allegedly allowed brothels, pimps, and prostitutes to post hundreds of thousands of advertisements for sexual services, which users could then filter by geography and preference.

In correspondence with Mr. Martono, one of his CityXGuide advertisers noted that the website was “taking over from where Backpage left off.”

CityXGuide and its companion websites allegedly allowed advertisers to select from a pre-populated list of “intimate activities,” then add nude photographs, descriptions, work hours, methods of payment, and contact information for the women being advertised. In order to secure premium placement, the websites offered paid “upgrades,” which could be purchased in Bitcoin or in exchange for gift cards from Walmart, Best Buy, Lowe’s, Amazon, and other retailers. Mr. Martono allegedly used CardCash, a third party gift card reseller, to exchange these gift cards for U.S. currency.

Mr. Martono allegedly took steps to conceal his online activity by routing website traffic through an IP address in Europe, using a VPN to mask his IP address while conducting CardCash transactions, and funneling his proceeds through a network of business and personal bank accounts. (At the time of Mr. Martono’s arrest, the Department of Homeland Security seized millions of dollars from accounts controlled by Mr. Martono.)

CityXGuide, which served clients across the globe, included a list of 14 “Favorite Cities,” including Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, and Boston.

Law enforcement has identified numerous minor victims in CityXGuide advertisements, including a **13-year-old Jane Doe recovered in North Texas in November 2019.

“As soon as DOJ shut down one despicable site, another popped up to take its place,” said U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox. “Like the owners of Backpage, this defendant made millions facilitating the online exploitation of women and children. The Justice Department will not rest until these sites are eliminated and their owners held accountable for their crimes.”

“This case is a harsh reminder of the ruthlessness of human traffickers and lengths to which they go, including victimizing women and children, to make a profit,”

There are real innocent victims due to these crimes. The Secret Service also thanks the Northern District of Texas United States Attorney’s Office for their aggressive support.”

“I’m proud of our team who, with our federal partners, relentlessly pursued this investigation for more than a year. Today, we have made a significant impact on one of the world’s largest digital marketplaces for prostitution and sex trafficking. We know many lives will be saved through this joint effort,” said Michael C. Miller, Chief of Police for the Colleyville Police Department.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in federal prison.

Mr. Martono was charged in part under FOSTA, a law passed in the wake of the Backpage scandal in April 2018 that allows the federal government to prosecute websites that facilitate sex trafficking.

Abilene Man Convicted at Trial for Enticing Minor to Engage in Sexual Activity

An Abilene man was convicted at trial for attempted enticement of a minor, announced U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Erin Nealy Cox.

On Monday, a federal jury deliberated for just seven minutes before finding Carlito Santiago Santos, 47, guilty of attempted enticement of a minor. Mr. Santos was indicted in October 2019.

According to the evidence presented at trial, Abilene Police Department created an undercover online persona of “Tyler,” a 15-year-old boy, and placed his profile on Grindr, a social media dating platform for GBTQ men.

Mr. Santos sent multiple illicit message to Tyler. In reply, Tyler told Mr. Santos that he was 15 years old and sent an age-regressed photo of a 15-year-old boy. Mr. Santos agreed to meet Tyler at an apartment complex in Abilene to engage in sexual activity. When Mr. Santos arrived he was arrested by law enforcement.

During interviews conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mr. Santos, a native of the Philippines where he worked as a pediatrician, admitted that he had a sexual interest in children because he found them “energetic” and “innocent.” Mr. Santos said he frequently viewed child pornography and ultimately admitted to molesting approximately fifteen children while in the Philippines.

The defendant faces a potential sentence of up to life in federal prison. His sentencing date is set for September 15, 2020.

Man Receives Maximum Sentence for DDoS Attack on Legal News Aggregator

An Iranian-born, U.S. naturalized 40-year-old man who launched multiple international cyber-attacks on media, bloggers, and legal news aggregation websites was sentenced on Monday to five years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $520,000 in restitution, announced U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Erin Nealy Cox.

The defendant, born Kamyar Jahanrakhshan, changed his name to Andrew Rakhshan when naturalized as a US citizen. Mr. Rakhshan pleaded guilty in February 2020 to conspiracy to commit computer fraud. The sentencing judge, U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey, accepted the plea agreement which statutorily limited the defendant’s maximum sentence to 60 month incarceration.

According to plea papers, Mr. Rakhshan admitted to conspiring with others to launch a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack in January 2015 on Leagle.com, a legal aggregation site that had posted publicly available information about his prior criminal conviction in Canada. Leagle.com’s website was hosted by a provider located in Dallas, Texas.

Upon his arrest in July 2017, at his residence in a suburb of Seattle, Washington, Mr. Rakhshan was detained pending the outcome of the case.

At his original trial in March 2018, a federal jury voted to convict Mr. Rakhshan of knowingly causing the transmission of a command to a protected computer, an offense that carried a 10 year maximum prison term. However, in July 2018, Judge Godbey granted a defense motion for a new trial based on the defense attorneys’ sworn admissions that they were ineffective in representing their client at trial. In April 2019, the government superseded the original indictment, adding the conspiracy charge. Mr. Rakhshan elected to plead guilty to the conspiracy charge on the morning his re-trial was to begin. He received the statutory maximum sentence for his guilty plea, although the Judge implied that the sentence would have been higher had there not been a statutory maximum.

Testimony and evidence from the trial established that when attacking each victim, Mr. Rakhshan followed the same pattern. First he would contact the targeted site and request that the site remove any publically available information about his 2013 criminal conviction in Canada. Mr. Rakhshan initially claimed that the similarity of his name to the convicted person’s name was ruining his life. When the websites refused to remove the data, Mr. Rakhshan first offered bribes to compel their compliance, then escalated his conduct through emails and faxes, by threatening to attack the site or associated sites. In some instances, Mr. Rakhshan threatened to call in bomb threats. Often, after initiating a successful DDoS attack, Mr. Rakhshan would contact the victim, admit to being the convicted person, brag about the successful attack, and threaten additional attacks.

Mr. Rakhshan purchased services from various booter services, such as ItsFluffy and RageBooter, to deploy the DDoS attack. The services offered by Rakhshan’s coconspirators allowed Mr. Rakhshan to flood the websites with traffic, overwhelming the servers and disabling the sites. Mr. Rakhshan initiated multiple DDoS attacks against each victim, and most victims removed the data to stop the attacks.

On June 8, Democratic members of Congress wearing kente cloths and face masks knelt in Emancipation Hall to memorialize Black lives lost to police brutality. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., read the names of unarmed Black people who’ve recently been killed by police.

Kente cloth comes from the Asante, or Ashanti, peoples of Ghana and Ewe peoples of Ghana and Togo.

The Asante supplied British and Dutch traders with slaves in exchange for firearms, which they used to expand their empire. Slaves were often acquired as tributes from smaller states or captured during war. Some slaves were brought across the Atlantic whiles others stayed in Africa to work in gold fields.

According to the BBC, by the end of the 18th century, the region exported an estimated 6,000-7,000 slaves per year.

London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan, after removing the monument to Robert Milligan, a Scottish slave trader, from outside the Museum of London Docklands, announced the creation of a commission to review tearing down statues that do not reflect “the city’s diversity.”

Two more statues were ordered to be removed from two London hospitals.

Vandalism and self-hatred are quickly gaining ground. The epic of great discoveries associated with British Empire has become shameful. The protests are not about slavery. No one in the UK today would cheer that period. It is rather a call for cultural cleansing of all the works contradicting the new mantra: “diversity.”

“A new form of Taliban was born in the UK today,” wrote Nigel Farage, referring to two giant ancient Buddha statues that were blown up by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. “Unless we get moral leadership quickly our cities won’t be worth living in.”

The list of statues to be removed includes the names of Oliver Cromwell and Horatio Nelson, two major figures in British history, as well as Nancy Astor, the first woman to be elected to the British Parliament and take a seat in 1919. Also on the list were the names of Sir Francis Drake, Christopher Columbus and Charles Gray (the prime minister whose government supervised the abolition of slavery in 1833).

The Lincoln Project is not letting President Donald Trump’s very underwhelming campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, slide.

In a new attack ad dropped Monday, the anti-Trump Republican group hit the president for the second time in two days over the mediocre turnout at the event, which was supposed to kickstart his bid for reelection but ended up falling significantly short of the campaign team’s jacked-up expectations. Trump, who often touts his crowd sizes as an indicator of his support, had boasted that more than a million people had registered to attend, despite criticisms of scheduling a rally amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He ended up addressing a venue ringed by vast sections of empty seats.

“Your campaign was so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should,” The Lincoln Project tweeted alongside their new video, titled “Disheveled.”

Created on a Jurassic Park theme, the video shows Trump walking to Marine One on his way to the rally, set to the movie’s triumphant overture. On his return from the rally at the 19,200-capacity BOK Center, which local fire officials estimated roughly 6,200 people attended, a bad harmonica cover of the theme plays instead as a seemingly exhausted Trump disembarks the chopper with his tie undone....

While claiming to work at restoring conservatism it is no shock how little is spent on that task.

The cadre of grousing voices on the political pundit landscape that are boldly in opposition to the president have been loosely gathered under the umbrella known as ‘’Never Trumpers’’. Some are bigger names, others are behind-the-curtain brokers, but all seem to share the visceral disdain for Donald Trump. One other charge that has been leveled at these ‘’noble’’ protectors of conservatism (their own descriptor) is that they are in on a grift.

While most have developed a level of notoriety in the wake of their bold opposition to the president they also have a hustle attached, it seems. Columnist Max Boot and GOP media consultant Rick Wilson have produced books based on their resistance. Others with election experience, such as Steve Schmidt, glean airtime on the news networks to bolster their name recognition and secure future work. Then there is the deposed crew from The Weekly Standard who have reconstituted under the new flagship The Bulwark, made possible with the fortunes of Silicon Valley billionaire Pierre Olmydar, an avowed leftist.

One of the newest political operations to rise up from this faction is the political super-PAC called The Lincoln Project. This opposition group rose with significant fanfare — tellingly on most left-of-center media outlets. It is not often a PAC forming gets widespread promotional support in the press, but the prospect of a group of avowed GOP players gathering to bring down the president has the media salivating. The main spokesman was Wilson, sitting in for a lengthy segment on MSNBC, and even The Daily Show.

The Lincoln Project has declared they will be a major player in the 2020 election, tasked with defeating Donald Trump, but notable from this group of self-described True Conservatives is how little backing we see of who they declare to be conservative alternatives. The ads they have run so far have been in opposition to Trump and his support politicians, such as Martha McSally. This past week the group came out to lend its endorsement to Joe Biden for president. So this is not at all about competing in the arena of ideas, it is only about damaging the president by any means possible.

Well…not ‘’only’’. What has been revealed is that this is not an effort being made to sway our political landscape — it is a pure money scheme. Financials from TLP have come out and they show that a significant amount of the money taken in is not sent out to the field for grassroots or even professional activism — it is sent to the interests of those on the TLP board. Members aside from Wilson include George Conway, Steve Schmidt, Jennifer Horn, and George Steslow among others. And they all have personally benefited by the dollars that rolled in.

n a detailed thread on his Twitter account Rob Pyers went through the released financials of this group and, even by the fractured ethics of PAC standards, The Lincoln Project is rather brazen in how it allocates its funds. During the excitable segment on MSNBC Nicole Wallace led the cheering, announcing how TLP had very quickly taken in over $1 million over the course of weeks. Where that money went says it all. Rick Wilson states in the interview how they saw a lack of heroes in the current GOP willing to stand up to Donald Trump. Yet with that tacit declaration of his heroism what is exposed is the venality of those on the TLP board.

As Pyers shows over 90% of the money donated has gone to businesses and groups directly tied to the members of The Lincoln Project.

SINGAPORE - President Halimah Yacob dissolved Parliament on Tuesday (June 23), setting in motion a widely-anticipated general election that will take place in phase two of Singapore's reopening after the circuit breaker.

A Writ of Election, which specifies the date of the polls, is expected to be issued shortly. Nomination Day will be on June 30, said the Prime Minister's Office in a statement.

In a televised address to the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said he has decided to call the general election now, while the Covid-19 situation is relatively stable, to "clear the decks" and give the new Government a fresh, full five-year mandate.

After the election, the new Government can focus on the national agenda - which include handling the coronavirus pandemic, the economy and jobs - and the difficult decisions it will have to make and to carry, he said.

The alternative is to wait out the pandemic, he said, noting however that there is no assurance that the outbreak will be over before the Government's term ends next April, with the virus expected to linger for at least a year - most probably longer - until a vaccine is available.

This general election will be like no other that Singapore has experienced, he said, not just because of the special arrangements to deal with Covid-19, but also the gravity of the situation and the issues at stake.

"The government that you elect will have critical decisions to make," Mr Lee said. "These decisions will impact your lives and livelihoods, and shape Singapore for many years to come, far beyond the five-year term of the next government."

The election, Singapore's 13th since independence, is likely to again see the People's Action Party (PAP) challenged for all seats - as the ruling party was in 2015.

A total of 93 elected seats are at stake - in 17 group representation constituencies and 14 single-member constituencies.

GE2020 will be fought against the backdrop of the Covid-19 outbreak, which has been described as the most dangerous crisis humanity has faced in a very long time.

Safe distancing rules that restrict the size of public gatherings to five people mean traditional campaign staples like mass rallies cannot be held. Political parties also have to scale back on the scope of their walkabouts in constituencies.

They have turned to cyberspace and social media to get their messages across to the electorate instead. Each candidate will also get airtime on national television, as part of the new, one-off constituency political broadcasts.

Observers reckon issues that will feature prominently at the hustings include the state of the economy and jobs, the Government's handling of the coronavirus situation, and setting the direction for Singapore's future after Covid-19.

This coming election will see Mr Lee lead the PAP into battle for the fourth, and what looks set to be the final time, as prime minister. He had earlier declared his intention to hand over the reins to his successor by the time he turns 70, which will be in 2022.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, who leads the PAP's fourth-generation team, is poised to take over.

The 2006 General Election, the first led by Mr Lee, saw the PAP get 66.6 per cent of the popular vote. But the ruling party saw its vote share fall to 60.1 per cent in the 2011 election, as voters made clear their unhappiness over issues such as housing affordability, immigration and overcrowded public transport.

In 2015, the PAP secured 69.9 per cent of the vote - a surge that analysts have attributed to policy changes that addressed voters' concerns, the feel-good effect from Singapore's Golden Jubilee, and the death of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew in March that year, among other factors.
