Romania passes legislation to ban gender studies

Romania’s Senate passed new legislation this week that bans making any reference to gender identity as something distinct from one’s biological gender. It still needs to be signed by the President.

The legislation was added as an amendment to a larger bill on educational policies on Tuesday by the centre-Right People’s Movement Party. The Social Democratic Party supported it as well.

The amendment received 81 yes votes, 21 no, and there were 27 abstentions. It prohibits “activities to spread the theory or opinion of gender identity, understood as the theory or opinion that gender is a different concept from biological sex and that the two are not always the same,” according to a report by Romanian news portal G4 media.

While the law will not impact the civil rights of transgendered people, it will effectively end the teaching of gender ideology in Romania’s schools and universities.

If it is signed into law, the amendment will make Romania the second country in the European Union to ban gender studies after Hungary, which enacted a similar law in 2018. Advocates of the law in Hungary claimed that gender ideology was destroying the country’s values, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party has also been on a campaign against gender ideology and has promised to put forward similar legislation.

The amendment in Romania may be an attempt to bolster support among members of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which has strongly opposed gender studies. 81% of Romanians are members of the Orthodox Church.

The amendment has now been forwarded to President Klaus Iohannis for his signature. Opponents are calling for him to refuse to sign it, however. Some academics and human rights advocates are against it, with liberals claiming that it would “send education in Romania back to the Middle Ages.”

Georgia city council asks mayor to resign over rant, saying 'privilege is wearing $300 Beats headphones while living on public assistance'

Mayor Ben Rozier of Bloomingdale also wrote that 'privilege is wearing $200 sneakers when you've never had a job'

The city council of Bloomingdale, Georgia, has asked the mayor to immediately resign over his comments on Facebook ripping those he believes possess "privilege," including those who wear "$300 Beats headphones while living on public assistance" and those who wear "$200 sneakers when you've never had a job."

Mayor Ben Rozier's now-deleted post in the Gossip Bloomingdale GA Facebook group from Tuesday night appeared to be a response to the term "white privilege," WJCL-TV reported.

Here's what Rozier wrote:

"What is privilege?....

"Privilege is wearing $200 sneakers when you've never had a job.

"Privilege is wearing $300 Beats headphones while living on public assistance.

"Privilege is having a Smartphone with a Data plan which you receive no bill for.

"Privilege is living in subsidized housing where you don't have a water bill, where rising property taxes and rents and energy costs have absolutely no effect on the amount of food you can put on your table.

"Privilege is the ability to go march against, and protest anything that triggers you without worrying about calling out of work and the consequences that accompany such behavior.

"Privilege is having as many children as you want, regardless of your employment status, and [to] be able to send them off to daycare or school you don't pay for.

"Privilege is sending your kids to school early for the before-school programs and breakfast, and then keeping them there for the after-school program...paid for by the people who DO HAVE TO DEAL WITH RISING TAXES AND COSTS! ...you know, us so-called 'PRIVILEGED' the ones who pay while you TAKE TAKE TAKE!"

City council wants Rozier to 'tender his resignation immediately'

Bloomingdale's city council asked for Rozier's immediate resignation over his comments, according to a news release posted Thursday on the city's Facebook page.

The council said it doesn't "condone or endorse any single or collective posts" from Rozier, and that it's "unfortunate that Mayor Rozier's [post] on Facebook has caused this set of circumstances and ill will in our beloved community. In no way does this reflect the ideals and values of the City of Bloomingdale or the Bloomingdale City Council."

The statement concluded: "Based on the actions of Mayor Rozier, the entire City Council has respectfully requested that Mayor Rozier tender his resignation immediately."

The Savannah Morning News said calls to Rozier were not immediately returned.

WJCL reported that a resident scheduled a protest for this weekend on the steps of city hall.

The paper added that Rozier in 2018 commented on a video that's since been removed from Facebook showing a black man blocking cars in a roadway — and that he called a commenter a "cotton picker."

Migrant transport NGO picks up 165 migrants off Libyan coast

The German migrant transport NGO Sea Watch picked up 165 migrants in rubber dinghies off the Libyan coast in two separate operations on Wednesday.

Nearly 100 illegal migrants were picked up just 29 miles off the coast of Zawiya, a district west of the Libyan capital of Tripoli, during vessel’s first operation which was carried out Wednesday morning. Apparently, a Libyan Coast Guard boat was also en route to intercept the migrants, but was no longer needed since the Sea Watch reached the dinghies first.

The NGO claims that their actions were morally justified because the Libyan Coast Guard would have brought the illegal migrants back to Libya had they reached them first.

Shortly after the first pick-up had occurred, Sea-Watch announced that its search plane “Moonbird” had located another dinghy filled with migrants. Later that day, the NGO announced that an additional 65 migrants had been picked up by the boat.

Closer to Tripoli, the Libyan Coast Guard was able to reach boat filled will illegal migrants before the NGOs could get to them. Following the pick-up, the Italian NGO Mediterranea, which was also in the area, expressed their outrage at the Libyan Coast Guard.

“While celebrating the rescue of children, women and men by Sea Watch 3, we are also outraged that others have been captured by the Libyan Coast Guard. And thus go back to hell, before our eyes … Powerless, we witnessed the intervention of Libyan militias on speed boats donated by our country,” the leftist NGO wrote.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NGOs have had their migrant taxiing operation severely hindered. In early June, however, the German and Italian migrant transport vessels were permitted to resume their services after Italian authorities temporarily impounded the ships for two months.

Recently, three migrants who were brought to Sicily last year by Sea-Watch were convicted by a Sicilian court of crimes which involved murder, torture, sexual violence, human trafficking, and involvement with criminal organizations, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. The three migrants were each sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for their crimes.

Gove: If Brexit trade deal isn’t reached by October, no-deal comes back into play

It will be difficult to wrap up a Brexit trade deal with the EU by the end of the year if “significant progress” isn’t made by October, UK cabinet office minister Michael Gove said, suggesting a no-deal split is a possibility.

Gove was asked about a potential cut-off point for Brexit negotiations at the Commons Northern Ireland Committee on Thursday. “We don't have a date, per se, pencilled in, but it is the case that if we haven't secured significant progress by October, then it will be difficult,” he said.

The Tory minister went on to add he’d hoped “that we would have clarity beforehand,” but that nailing down the details and ensuring a free trade agreement can be reached becomes “increasingly difficult” without progress by that time.

Formal negotiations between the UK and the EU are set to resume on June 29. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he wants the trade deal made in July, but the EU expects it to take until October at least. Any trade agreement reached then requires ratification by both parties, which could take several months.

The deadline for the UK to request an extension of the transition period is July 1, but Johnson has insisted he won’t seek to push it out past the end of the year. The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, has said that lawmakers should be prepared for the possibility that a deal won’t be reached in time.

Former Bolton Chief Of Staff Explains The ‘Turning Point’ That ‘Disproves The Whole Book’

Former National Security Council Chief of Staff Fred Fleitz told Martha MacCallum on Thursday that what his former boss described as a “turning point” for his views about President Donald Trump’s capabilities to lead actually “disproves the whole book.”

National Security Advisor John Bolton’s upcoming book, “The Room Where It Happens,” is reportedly filled with criticisms of Trump’s decisions, leadership capability, and fitness for office. Although copies have been distributed to media outlets including the Daily Caller, the Justice Department has attempted to block the book from its scheduled June 23 publication by filing a lawsuit against the former national security advisor.

Fleitz said during “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that he had called for Bolton to “withdraw the book” in January because he doesn’t believe someone in that position “should be revealing internal candid discussions with the president.”

“The president has to be able to know that whatever he says in those discussions won’t be made public,” he said. “If he thinks they are going to be made public, a president won’t consult with experts and I think that is a dangerous prospect for national security.”

“I want to talk about this in terms of what John Bolton called the turning point for him with Mr. Trump, which Bolton said was ‘the most irrational thing I ever saw a president do,'” said Fleitz, responding to MacCallum’s question about why Bolton wrote and released the book. “And this was when President Trump decided last June not to bomb Iran at the advice of John Bolton and other national security advisors.”

Recalling when Trump decided not to attack Iran after a U.S. drone was shot down because “we would have killed 100-200 people,” Fleitz called it a “principled decision.”

“This was not to win votes,” he said. “This wasn’t to promote the president domestically. It reflected the presidents’s principle not to get America into additional wars. And it was an act of leadership, because he bucked all of his national security advisors, Pompeo, the Secretary of Defense, so when we hear that the president does not have principles, he’s not qualified to lead, this incident that Bolton puts forward as the turning point for his relationship with President Trump in my mind it disproves the whole book.”

Fleitz noted that while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and others “found out how to work with the president and be effective,” Bolton and others “couldn’t figure this out.”

“The job of the senior advisors is to work with the president, not to fight with him and to implement his policies,” Fleitz concluded. “And I am very sorry that John Bolton couldn’t figure out how to do that.”

Twitter Permanently Blacklists British Conservative Katie Hopkins

Twitter permanently blacklisted the account of Katie Hopkins, a British conservative commentator who had over 1 million followers prior to her ban. The company claims the deverification of her account and the subsequent ban are based on “hateful conduct.”

A Twitter spokeswoman confirmed that Hopkins has been permanently banned in an email to Breitbart News, accusing her of “hateful conduct.”

“Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us – abuse and hateful conduct have no place on our service and we will continue to take action when our Rules are broken,” said the spokeswoman. “In this case, the account has been permanently suspended for violations of our Hateful Conduct policy.”

Hopkins previously faced a temporary suspension from the social media platform following pressure on Twitter from the Center for Countering Digital Hate, the same far-left British organization that assisted NBC’s recent hitpiece against The Federalist and ZeroHedge, which resulted in Google pulling ad revenue from the latter and threatening the former with the same.

The British nonprofit’s purpose appears to be to smear conservative and right-wing news sources. As previously reported:

Google took action after it was contacted by agenda-driven journalists at NBC, who presented the company with research from a leftist nonprofit, the Center for Countering Digital Hate, that smears a number of conservative websites including Breitbart News, and calls on digital advertisers to financially blacklist them.

The nonprofit falsely claims that Breitbart News promoted the Obama “birther” theory, citing as “evidence” a Breitbart story that explicitly rejects the theory. As purported evidence of Breitbart’s “hate,” the nonprofit also links to a recent piece recommending Americans buy guns and ammunition to protect themselves amid violent riots.

It is currently unclear if CCDH played any role in the permanent blacklisting of Hopkins’ account.

Twitter’s justification for the previous, temporary suspension of Hopkins’ account was the same as the one it used for the current ban: “violating the site’s hateful-conduct policy which bans the promotion of violence or inciting harm on the basis of race, religion, national origin or gender identity.”

In US Military First, the Air Force has Picked a Woman as Top Enlisted Leader

The next top Air Force enlisted leader is a woman, the first to ever serve as the highest ranking enlisted non-commissioned officer of a U.S. military branch.

The19th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force will be JoAnne Bass, currently the command chief master sergeant for the Second Air Force at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, the service announced Friday. She will replace Kaleth O. Wright, who came into the role in 2017.

Airmen "are counting on leaders like me to make a positive impact in their lives," Bass said in a video posted by Wright on social media. "I owe them my best."

Wright also hailed Air Force Chief of Staff. Gen. Charles "CQ" Brown, who earlier this month was confirmed in a historic Senate vote as the first African American to ever serve as the top uniformed officer for any of the military branches.

"Gen. Brown knocked it out of the park with this selection," Wright said on Twitter. "Proud moment in history, Great to be an Airman!"

"She has unique skills that will help us both lead the Total Force and live up to the high expectations of our Airmen," Brown said in a statement about Bass. "She is a proven leader who has performed with distinction at every step of her accomplished career. I have no doubt that Chief Bass will provide wise counsel as we pursue and implement initiatives to develop and empower Airmen at all levels."

Bass previously served as chief for the Air Force enlisted developmental education program at the Pentagon, according to her official biography. She has also deployed in support of Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. She began her career in 1993 at Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina and later served at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; and at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, as the the command chief master sergeant for the 17th Training Wing, her bio states.

Air Force officials said Bass emerged as "the consensus choice from a group of more than a dozen finalists from across the Air Force's global operation," according to a news release. "The finalists were selected based on breadth of experience, recommendations from senior commanders and performance across each candidate's Air Force career."

Officials noted Brown and Bass are coming into a service in transition, not only as the military charts its course to take on new, future threats, but also as it addresses racial disparities across the force.

The Air Force has been outspoken on social issues and has made a number of moves of late to promote a culture of inclusivity and affirm Air Force values.

Wright was the first member of senior military leadership to speak out publicly following the May 25 death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis.

Wright also cited concern black members of the Air Force, and a call for change and improvement in the service, including a review of the military justice system.

The Air Force has since initiated that review.

Iraq Demands Turkey, Iran Stop Attacking Kurdish Forces in the North

Iraq summons envoys, issued 'strongly-worded memorandum'

After attacks througbout Wednesday, Iraq has summoned the ambassadors from Turkey and Iraq and issued them a “strongly-worded memorandum” to condemn their ongoing offensive against the Kurdish PKK in far northern Iraq.

The Iraqi officials say they view the offensive as an affront to Iraqi sovereignty. Turkey had airlifted troops into the area earlier this week and launched the offensive, dubbed Operation Claw-Tiger, against the PKK. Turkey maintains that the attacks are legal.

Turkey-based PKK separatists have had a presence in Iraq for years, and Turkey attacks somewhat regularly. Iraq’s complaints rarely mean they’ll actually do anything to try to stop them.

Iran’s involvement is something new, however. Though Iran has its own problems with Kurdish separatists they’ve rarely gone after such groups in Iraq, and this seems to be the first direct participation in a Turkish-led offensive.

Trump warns protesters ahead of Tulsa rally

President Trump on Friday warned individuals against protesting in Tulsa, Okla., ahead of his Saturday campaign rally there, suggesting any demonstrators would be treated harshly.

“Any protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes who are going to Oklahoma please understand, you will not be treated like you have been in New York, Seattle, or Minneapolis,” Trump tweeted Friday. “It will be a much different scene!”

Trump has heavily criticized Democratic leaders in New York, Seattle and Minneapolis for not sufficiently cracking down on demonstrations, some of which have turned unruly, that have erupted across the country to protest racism and police brutality in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Asked about the tweet later Friday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that Trump was referring to "violent protesters" and not suggesting that the right to protest peaceably shouldn’t apply to his rallies.

“What the president is noting is that there were inexcusable scenes that we saw play out in New York and Seattle and Minneapolis and that we would not see Tulsa, Oklahoma, look that way,” McEnany told reporters at a briefing.

The city of Tulsa has announced a curfew for Friday and Saturday in order to prevent violent protesting around Trump’s rally, which has been shrouded in controversy since the president initially announced plans last week to hold it in Tulsa on June 19.

Trump was forced to move the date to June 20 after widespread outcry over the campaign’s decision to not just stage the event on Juneteenth, an annual holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States, but to stage it in Tulsa, the site of one of the deadliest incidents of anti-black racial violence in the country in 1921.

The Trump campaign has also faced criticism for holding the large-scale event during the coronavirus pandemic, prompting concerns from the city’s health department.

The campaign plans to distribute masks and hand sanitizer to attendees as well as perform temperature checks before the rallygoers enter Tulsa’s BOK Center. The venue holds 19,000 people, and the campaign said it has received more than 1 million requests for tickets.

Attendees have also been asked to sign a waiver agreeing not to sue the campaign or the venue in the event of illness or injury.

“Big crowds and lines already forming in Tulsa. My campaign hasn’t started yet. It starts on Saturday night in Oklahoma!” Trump tweeted later Friday.

Trump has been repeatedly criticized for his handling of the protests in the wake of Floyd’s killing at the hands of police in Minneapolis.

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, will invest $1.5 billion in Jio Platforms Ltd., the telecommunications and digital services subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries Ltd.

Jio Platforms owns Jio, India's largest mobile network operator.

As a result of its investment, the Public Investment Fund will hold a 2.32% stake in Jio Platforms.

Public Investment Fund is one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, with assets of about $320 billion.

Jio Platforms, which is controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance, has now raised a total of $15.2 billion in investments since April. (For the sake of comparison, India’s entire startup sector raised $14.5 billion last year).

Public Investment Fund becomes the eleventh investor in the mobile company, which has attracted deep-pocketed foreign investors, including Facebook (FB), private equity firms KKR & Co. and Silver Lake Partners, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (another sovereign wealth fund), among others.

All told, these investors now hold a 24.7% stake in Jio Platforms,with Facebook owning 9.99%.

Jio Platforms is nearing 400 million subscribers, well ahead of Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel, each of which have about 300 million customers. Jio Platforms has skyrocketed to the top of the Indian mobile phone market by offering cut-rate voice calls and other cheap services.

The success of the mobile phone business is boosting Ambani’s strategy of diversifying away from Reliance’s core oil refining and petrochemicals businesses.

“We at Reliance have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for many decades,” Ambani said on Thursday. “From [the] oil economy, this relationship is now moving to strengthen India’s new… data-driven economy.”

Indian Security Forces Kill 8 Militants In Two Operations In Kashmir

Indian security forces neutralized 8 militants in 2 separate raids in Kashmir, on June 18th-19th.

The first incident took place in the Pampore area. An intelligence report was received, which claimed of militant presence in the area.

One militant was killed in a firefight, two more retreated and hid inside a nearby mosque.

According to police, tear gas was used to eject the militants from the building. Both of them were killed, and there was no damage to the mosque.

The local imam thanked security forces for their efforts.

Black Senior State Department Official Resigns to Protest Trump Response to Riots

One of the most senior black Americans in the state department has resigned to protest Donald Trump’s response to the recent riots over the death of George Floyd.

Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs Mary Elizabeth Taylor gave her resignation to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying her action was a matter of conscience.

The Hill:

“Moments of upheaval can change you, shift the trajectory of your life, and mold your character,” Taylor wrote to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a letter obtained by the Post. “The President’s comments and actions surrounding racial injustice and Black Americans cut sharply against my core values and convictions. I must follow the dictates of my conscience and resign as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs.”

Taylor was the youngest assistant secretary for legislative affairs in history. She previously worked for the White House as deputy director for nominations, and on Mitch McConnell’s Senate staff.

She was seen as a loyal, reliable Trump aide.

In her resignation letter, Taylor expressed her gratitude to Pompeo.

“You have shown grace and respect in listening to my opinions, and your remarkable leadership have made me a better leader and team member,” she reportedly wrote. “I appreciate that you understand my strong loyalty to my personal convictions and values, particularly in light of recent events.”

The pressure on Ms. Taylor to resign must have been enormous. You have to think that friends and family were advising her to cut loose from Trump before she went down with him. Outside forces may also have been pressuring her, as the black community in America has become even more monolithic in its beliefs as a result of the demonstrations and riots.

Were there threats made against her? No one would be surprised if there were.

Blacks in the administration have kept a low profile from the beginning given the rabid opposition to anyone who dares work for the president. It’s like six degrees of separation as even the families and friends of aides have been targeted by the mob.

I’m sure Taylor heard the taunts of “race traitor” and “Aunt Jane” from those seeking to destroy any black American who disagrees with their political views. It had to have been difficult to work under those circumstances.

That Taylor chose a rather public way to show her disagreement is unfortunate but probably unavoidable given her position as assistant secretary and the temperature of the times. It’s troubling that this myopic view of the “protests” held by Taylor and most blacks should obscure the whole truth of what was going.

Former interim governor of Mexico's third largest state pleads guilty for role in transnational money-laundering scheme

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A former interim governor of Mexico’s third largest state, Coahuila, pleaded guilty Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas for his role in a transnational money-laundering scheme.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Corpus Christi, Texas, conducted the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation along with several other federal agencies including the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, IRS - Criminal Investigation and U.S. Marshals Service.

Jorge Juan Torres-Lopez, 66, who served as the interim governor of Coahuila, Mexico, in 2011, admitted to conducting financial transactions in the United States to conceal bribes that he received in exchange for assigning road-building contracts in Coahuila.

Torres-Lopez worked for the Mexican government from 1994 to 2011. In addition to his role as interim governor, he also served as Coahuila’s secretary of finance and general director of promotion and development, as well as the municipal president of Saltillo – the capital of Coahuila.

As part of his plea, Torres-Lopez agreed to forfeit real property in the U.S. associated with the payments.

Torres-Lopez was taken into custody in Mexico Feb. 5, 2019, and extradited to the U.S. Oct. 29, 2019. He will remain in federal custody pending his sentencing scheduled for Sept. 10. At that time, Torres-Lopez faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible $500,000 fine, twice the value of the monetary instrument or funds involved in the transaction, or both.

Coahuila’s secretary of finance under Torres-Lopez, Hector Javier Villarreal-Hernandez, 49, has also been convicted of money laundering offenses related to this case and is awaiting sentencing. Around December 2005, Villarreal-Hernandez was appointed as Coahuila’s undersecretary of program and budget. At the time, Torres-Lopez was his supervisor. In July 2008, Villarreal-Hernandez was appointed as secretary of finance for Coahuila, where he remained until his resignation in August 2011.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jon Muschenheim and Lance A. Watt are prosecuting this case. The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Mexico and the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs (Criminal Division) provided significant assistance.

EU Central Bank Chief Warns of 'Dramatic' Post-COVID Recession, Calls to Agree on Recovery Plan

Christine Lagarde has appealed to the bloc's members to accept a recovery plan as quickly as possible, despite it being a highly contentious issue throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The head of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde warned EU members on Friday they were heading for "a dramatic fall" due to the sweeping coronavirus-induced lockdown, urging them to waste no more time and agree on a proposed stimulus plan, due to be finalised in July. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte responded, however, saying he doubted that the deadline would be met.

"It is uncertain whether it would be finalised then or whether we would need more sessions, and whether they should be during the summer or later," said Rutte, whose country is one of the so-called "frugal four" that are seeking to block the spending for the European countries that have suffered most throughout the COVID crunch.

Lagarde pointed out that the full detrimental effects of the crisis are yet to be felt in the bloc, which has of late seen multiple spats over the divisive stimulus effort and now has to restore public confidence buffeted by the rows.

Speaking during a video conference, she warned that Europe’s worst recession since World War II would see the region’s labour market crash, with unemployment rates going from 7.3% to 10%, Lagarde pointed out.

Calling on members to reach a common ground on the possible ways out of the recession, Lagarde told the summit that financial markets were relatively calm because of expectations that their further steps would show "the EU is back", Reuters reported, citing insiders.

"It’s a crisis without precedent that has had an enormous impact - economic, social and also on the viability of the EU", said a senior European diplomat, arguing that to show that "Europe protects", there is no way they "can take any longer on this", as delays would only complicate things and make them "more expensive".

Newly-Formed Idlib Militant Coalition Carries Out First Attack On Syrian Army

On June 19, the newly-formed Fa Ithbatu militant coalition in Greater Idlib carried out its first attack on the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

According to several opposition sources, the terrorists destroyed a bulldozer of the SAA while it was building fortifications near the town of Tanjarah in the northwestern countryside of Hama. The bulldozer was targeted with an anti-tank guided missile.

In what appears to be a response to the attack, the SAA artillery pounded militnats’ positions around the town of Benin in southern Idlib.

The Fa Ithbatu coalition was formed on June 12 by Horas al-Din, Ansar al-Din, Ansar al-Islam, Liwa al-Muqatlin al-Ansar and Tansiqiyat al-Jihad. Fa Ithbatu succeeded the so-called wa-Harid al-Mu’minin coalition.

Horas al-Din, Ansar al-Din, Ansar al-Islam are affiliated with al-Qaeda. Liwa al-Muqatlin al-Ansar and Tansiqiyat al-Jihad, on the other side, were formed by defectors from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The coalition was apparently established to sabotage the March 5 Russian-Turkish agreement as well as to challenge HTS’ authority in Greater Idlib.

Pompeo demands Europe ditch trade with China and choose FREEDOM over TYRANNY (in favor of US)

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo scolded Europeans for not ditching China in favor of the US as a trading partner, claiming that any reliance on Beijing constitutes “abandoning who we are” and prizing “tyranny” over “freedom.”

The diplomat denied he was forcing Europe to choose between the US and China as allies, insisting in remarks made at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit on Friday that it was, in fact, the Chinese Communist Party imposing such a choice on them. At the same time, he denied the choice was really between the US and China at all, but “between freedom and tyranny.”

China, Pompeo insisted, was trying to convince the West to “throw away the progress we in the free world have made with NATO and other institutions…and adopt a new set of rules and norms to accommodate…Beijing.” This, he declared, was frankly unacceptable.

“There’s also no way to straddle these alternatives without abandoning who we are,” Pompeo proclaimed. “Democracies that are dependent upon authoritarians are not worthy of their name.”

Speaking of authoritarians, the American hailed the progress the US was making in pressuring its allies to shut China out of their economies, referring to the UK’s reversing course on including Huawei in its 5G networks and Sweden’s decision to shutter all Confucius Institutes, among other “victories.”

Pompeo accused China of “flagrantly attacking European sovereignty by buying up ports and critical infrastructure,” ordering allies to remove the “golden blinders of economic ties” – as if any country can afford to forsake beneficial economic relationships amid an unprecedented global depression – and recognize that Beijing was “saddling developing nations with debt and dependency.”

"While I do not believe for a moment that democracy is fragile, it does require careful stewardship and constant vigilance,” Pompeo affirmed, stating, without a trace of irony, “We’re winning.”

The Trump administration is scrambling to right the ship of state as massive protests over police brutality and near-record unemployment triggered by the coronavirus economic shutdown challenge its legitimacy at home. The administration’s vocal support for the demonstrators against Chinese rule in Hong Kong has been denounced as hypocritical in the face of the heavy-handed response to American protests, and China has vowed retaliation after President Donald Trump signed a law opening the door to sanctions over Beijing’s alleged oppression of Uighur Muslims.

Indian Congress leader ARRESTED for spreading ‘FAKE NEWS’ about China border clash in leaked call

An Indian Congress leader from Ladakh was arrested after “berating” the country’s army and making up “fake news” about deadly military clashes between India and China in the disputed border region.

Local media reported that Congress Councilor Zakir Hussain was arrested for “sedition” and “spreading of false information” on Friday. His comments came after the bloody confrontation which claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers earlier in the week.

In leaked audio, Hussain can be heard telling someone that China “has occupied 135km into India,” and that the Indian military was powerless to stop it. He claimed “at least 200-250 soldiers have died” – a far higher number than reported.

He added that “nobody died from the Chinese side,” though Indian media had reported that as many as 43 Chinese People’s Liberation Army soldiers were killed. Beijing admitted there were some casualties, but did not say how many injuries or deaths it had suffered.

Concerned by the dramatic interpretation of events, Hussain’s interlocutor asked him what to do. “If you have some savings, everything will be alright,” Hussain answered, adding that China “must take away half of Leh” and that Ladakh could be split between the two countries.

Once made public, the recordings quickly went viral, even sparking local protests. Hussain then appeared to go missing-in-action and his “numbers were switched off,” Times Now reported.

Police eventually tracked him down, however, and in addition to being arrested, Hussain was expelled from his party.

The clashes in Ladakh have dramatically increased tensions between India and China. On Wednesday, Indian demonstrators publicly set fire to a Chinese flag and burned an effigy of China’s leader, Xi Jinping. On Friday, an Indian government minister also called for a boycott of “all Chinese goods.”

Beijing and New Delhi haved blamed each other for the lethal border skirmishes, but both have stressed that tensions will be settled by a move towards peaceful dialogue.

John Kerry Warns of Revolution if Trump Re-Elected

Former Obama Secretary of State John Kerry warned of revolution if President Trump is reelected and voters believe the election was not fair. Kerry made the remarks Friday morning in a virtual Copenhagen Democracy Summit appearance with former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen who was also the former prime minister of Denmark and Australian reporter Ryan Heath with Politico.

In response to a follow-up question by an observer after Heath asked Kerry about his experience losing the 2004 presidential election and whether he thinks Trump would leave office “in the manner we’ve been accustomed” should he lose in November, Kerry likened the potential unrest in reaction to a Trump victory to the 1770s American Revolution where British colonists waged a war for independence from Great Britain. Kerry also compared the unrest in 2020 to 1968 where the U.S. saw assassinations, riots and the burning of cities across the county.

Kerry’s remarks were first reported by the Washington Examiner:

“If people don’t have adequate access to the ballot, I mean that’s the stuff on which revolutions are built. If you begin to deny people the capacity of your democracy to work, even the Founding Fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, we have an inherent right to challenge that. And I’m worried that increasingly, people are disaffected.”

After praising the George Floyd protests, Kerry said, “We have not a had a year like this in the United States since 1968 when Martin Luther King was assassinated, Bobby Kennedy assassinated and we had major challenges in our streets.”

Kerry also trashed President Trump’s foreign policy which has rolled back Obama policies including the Iran nuclear deal.

Port of Oakland shut down by dockworkers in observation of Juneteenth

Economic activity at the Port of Oakland came to a halt on Friday as thousands of workers and supporters gathered on Middle Harbor Road to protest police brutality and racism in the United States.

The demonstration, organized by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, coincided with demonstrations planned today at 28 other seaports in California, Oregon and Washington.

The day of action was held on Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. Local 10, Local 34 and the African American Longshore Coalition led the rally, and demonstrators plan to drive in a caravan to Oakland Police Department headquarters and City Hall from the port.

With support of the ports, workers stopped processing cargo Friday and rallied to mark the anniversary and calls for police reform. The move follows mass protests on June 9 at all 29 ports which idled terminal operations for 8 minutes and 46 seconds — the amount of time a police officer in Minnesota knelt on George Floyd’s neck— an African American man — leaving him gasping for air before he died, on May 25.

"You represent the potential and the power of the labor movement," Angela Davis, a longtime activist who was a member of the Black Panther Party, said at the rally. She said she hopes that other labor unions will join in the effort of "abolishing the police as we know them" and "re-imagining public safety."

Other speakers included actor Danny Glover, who called in to voice support, and Michael Brown Sr., the father of Michael Brown Jr., the 18-year-old black man who was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., in 2014.

"We're not working today. We're standing in solidarity," said Willie Adams, president of the ILWU, at the Port of Oakland. He said dock workers in Genoa, Italy had stopped work in solidarity. "Good cops have got to start checking those bad cops. You can't stand by and let something happen. You're just as guilty," Adams said.

Cestra Butner, the board president for the Port of Oakland, and a prominent African American business leader, said there’s no question that the port stood behind the Black Lives Matter movement.

“We want this country to live up to what it’s supposed to be,” he said in a Friday video addressed to employees and the public.

On June 6, the port issued a statement supporting the movement for social and racial justice. Butner called for more. “I’m proud the Port has a statement on this issue,” he said in the video. “Now we have to follow that up with our actions. We must ask: are we making everything equal?”

MAJOR: India to Make an Emergency Purchase of 33 Russian Fighter Jets to Counter China

NEW DELHI/MOSCOW – In the middle of the standoff between India and China, the Indian Air Force has pushed a proposal to the country’s government for acquiring additional 33 fighter aircraft, which includes 21 MiG-29 and 12 Su-30MKI jets directly from Russia.

“The Air Force has been working on this plan for some time but they have now fast-tracked the process and the proposal’s expected to be worth over Rs 6,000 crore (which is around $800 million) would be placed before the Defence Ministry for its final approval next week at a high-level meeting,” government sources said.

There is an effort to try, upgrade and induct more military hardware. These deals were in pipeline for a very long time.

MiG-29s are flown by the Air Force and the pilots are familiar with it but the ones offered by the Russians are different from the ones in the Indian inventory. The Air Force has three squadrons of MiG-29s which have been undergoing upgrades for extended service and are considered reliable in the air defense roles.

Su-30MKIs are relatively expensive to run, primarily because they require 2 pilots, in contrast to most other Indian jets where 1 pilot is required. However, even though India has hundreds of Su-30MKIs, an additional number of jets would make a huge difference, especially after it was revealed that Indian-produced Su-30MKIs lacked the quality of those produced in Russia and were more prone to crashes.

Possibility of renewal of the joint Indo-Russian Su-57/FGFA deal

After India declared an unofficial hiatus on its participation in the Su-57-inspired FGFA (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft) program, which was planned to be a joint venture between Russia’s Sukhoi and India’s HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), India was left without a viable 5th generation fighter jet program.

Although HAL officially still runs India’s indigenous 5th generation fighter jet program, officially known as HAL AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft), the program’s development process has been very slow and marred with R&D difficulties, numerous delays and substantial cost overruns.

HAL’s development of India’s only indigenous 4th generation fighter jet, known as HAL Tejas and started back in the 1980s, drew harsh criticism for not producing needed results and not meeting Indian Air Force requirements even after almost 40 years of development and almost 20 years after its first flight in 2001.

Although Tejas was officially introduced into service in 2015, the number of jets in IAF’s inventory stands at 33 units, 16 of which are prototypes. With AMCA being a significantly more complex platform than the Tejas, it’s expected that the delay in its production would be even more severe, with most leading world powers expected to field 6th generation platforms by the time the program gets to the production line.

With recent events showing that a possible conflict with China is not impossible, a prospect of India having to fight an emerging superpower which already fields or is about to field not one, but two 5th generation fighters (J-20 and J-31) sounds terrifying to most of its war planners, as it would likely put India at a severe disadvantage. Thus, it’s not impossible that India would resume talks with Russia on the FGFA program.

Nuland’s biscuits again: Maidan midwife’s plan for US policy on Russia is dumb, delusional and dangerous

Victoria Nuland, the infamous State Department diplomat who “midwifed” Ukraine’s 2014 coup, has outlined a Russia strategy for the Biden administration. It is based on fantasies and projection, offering nothing of value to anyone.

You may remember ‘Tori’ Nuland from the so-called “revolution of dignity” in Ukraine, in particular the publicity stunt in which she doled out pastries to “peaceful protesters” on Kiev’s Independence Square. Standing next to her was US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, who will be recorded some weeks later discussing with Nuland which protest leader will be allowed to form a government. Soon thereafter, the people they named led an armed coup against the government in Kiev and set up their own.

That was the zenith of her diplomatic career, however, as she resigned from the State Department after the inauguration of President Donald Trump and went into the private sector – currently working for Madeleine Albright’s consultancy group in Washington. Now Nuland is making a comeback, with an article in the July-August edition of Foreign Affairs titled 'Pinning Down Putin.'

Between re-airing the usual mainstream Washington accusations against Russia and projecting US and NATO wrongdoing on Moscow, Nuland is basically outlining a policy for the Biden administration, should Democrats capture the White House this November as the US establishment hopes. Bear in mind as you read on that Nuland isn’t necessarily partisan – she worked for Bill Clinton’s Russia guru Strobe Talbott as well as George W. Bush’s grey eminence Dick Cheney. If there is an embodiment of the bipartisan US establishment consensus on Russia, that’s her. That’s the main reason her essay is worth a look.

King County (Seattle, WA) Board of Health declares racism as a public health crisis

The King County Board of Health held a meeting Thursday to discuss a resolution that would declare racism as a public health crisis. The board approved the resolution.

“The strain of racism that Black, indigenous and other people of color in our community live with every day leads to differences in health and well-being, opportunities for employment, education, and housing, and truly is a public health crisis,” said King County Board of Health Chair Joe McDermott. “Our action today places anti-racism, already a cornerstone of the work of Seattle-King County Department of Public Health, at the foundation of the Board’s policies and programs that reach across every community in Martin Luther King Jr. County.”

The COVID-19 pandemic provides an example of a crisis on top of the existing crisis of racism, according to Public Health — Seattle & King County.

In a post originally published on June 11, 2020, the county government and Public Health – Seattle & King County committed to implementing a racially equitable response that centers on community.

“We recognize that historically and currently King County has been complicit in maintaining and perpetuating structural racism, and that as an institution we must be a vital player in dismantling oppressive systems that are grounded in white supremacy,” the Public Health Insider post reads.

Community leaders and organizations will be provided with resources to help create solutions. These commitments are made now, said public health officials, to stop both disease and racism and lay the foundation for a better community moving forward.

“We will use quantitative data, including data about racial inequities, along with voices and know-how from community leaders and residents to get to solutions that work and that are sustainable.”

The board recognizes the need for new systems directly from the communities that are most affected by racism, oppression, and colonization.

Public health officials said they would adopt and commit to an “Anti-Racism Crisis Response Bill of Rights.” More announcements are expected as the local leaders work in partnership with community members and organizations.

Black Lives Matter protesters swarmed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky home at 6 AM Friday morning.

The protesters held up a big banner that said “Breonna couldn’t sleep. Neither should Mitch,” as they honked horns, banged on pots and screamed.

Breonna Taylor, 26, was fatally shot in March of this year by Louisville Police officers who entered her apartment when executing a no-knock search warrant (drug related).

Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker opened fire on the three police officers because he supposedly believed they were intruders.

The officers returned fire and Breonna Taylor was shot and killed.

On Friday it was reported that Louisville Detective Brett Hankison will be fired over Breonna Taylor’s shooting.

NYPD Cops Encouraged To "Strike" On July 4 To Give City Its "Independence"

New York Post, June 18, 2020:

A labor strike is brewing in the NYPD.

A pair of flyers making the rounds among NYPD officers are encouraging them to call out sick July 4 — as retribution for police reform and a perceived anti-cop climate following the outrage over high-profile police killings of unarmed black men across the country, multiple cops told The Post.

One message calls for the strike to kick off at 3 p.m. July 4.

“NYPD cops will strike on July 4th to let the city have their independence without cops,” the message, which is being passed among cops via text, according to sources.

“Cops that say we can’t strike because of the Taylor Law,” the message reads, referencing a law that makes public worker stoppages punishable with fines and jail time. “The people and this city doesn’t [sic] honor us why honor them [sic].”

It’s unclear whether the messages are being written by other police officers.

Another message seen by police officers reads #Bluflu and instructs cops to call out sick on Independence Day.

“Police officers like you and me took an oath to protect strangers regardless of race, class or gender,” the message reads. “Today we are vilified and must stand as one.”

It then gives instructions for a sickout, telling members to call their precinct and request a sick day. If they are denied, the message instructs them to call the main NYPD sick desk.

If that doesn’t work, officers are instructed to report for duty — then ask for an ambulance so they can go home sick.

“If you are held because of the #Bluflu, request a bus and go sick from command,” the flyer reads.

PBA president Patrick Lynch said the “blue flu” has been a joke for generations, but “the situation we are in right now is no joke” and NYC cops “have reached the breaking point.”

“Over the past few weeks, we have been attacked in the streets, demonized in the media and denigrated by practically every politician in this city,” Lynch said.

“Now we are facing the possibility of being arrested any time we go out to do our job.”

The NYPD responded that police will be at work on July 4, as always.

“New York City Police Officers will be here today, tomorrow, and on the 4th of July to protect all New Yorkers,” said Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell, spokesperson for the department’s deputy commissioner for public information.

“To suggest otherwise is false.”

Google is testing a service that would use its search and artificial intelligence technology to analyze patient records for Ascension, the largest nonprofit health system in the U.S., according to documents about the efforts reviewed by Forbes. Called “‘Nightingale,” the Google-Ascension project indicates that Google’s push into health analysis is farther along than previously believed, even as the company has faced a growing backlash over health-related privacy concerns.

President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign released a new ad on Friday warning that former Vice President Joe Biden’s mental abilities appeared to be diminishing.

“Joe Biden is slipping,” the narrator says as the ad features some of Biden’s most alarming brain freeze moments during his presidential campaign.

One clip features Biden struggling to read from his notes in front of him. Another features his failure to properly quote the Declaration of Independence.

“Now at the age of 77-years-old and running for president for the third time, Biden is clearly diminished,” the narrator continues. “Joe Biden does not have the strength, the stamina, or the mental fortitude to lead this country.”

Another clip features Biden saying, “Sometimes I wake up and I think it’s 1920″ during a speech to the National Action Network while also showing images of the former vice president appearing to fall asleep during a public event.

The campaign also released a website featuring video clips of Biden’s moments of confusion as well as videos of prominent political, news, and media characters questioning his mental ability.

"Putin Wanted It": Dems Introduce Bill To Block Trump's Germany Troop Draw Down

Earlier this month the White House controversially ordered a significant troop draw down from Germany after a decades-long build up as part of Cold War era deals. On June 5th President Trump directed the Pentagon to withdraw 9,500 US troops from Germany by September, following years of the administration severely criticizing lack of enough military spending from its NATO ally.

A number of reports suggested a broader US troop pullout from Germany was popular among the German public, and some say that even within the ranks of the US military it is seen as a good thing - or rather Trump making good on prior 'America first' promises involving not being a global policeman. However, a number of retired generals have spoken out against it.

But now Congressional Democrats are seeking to block the Germany drawdown. The bill introduced this week by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) imposes a number of severe conditions which most likely preclude such a troop exit.

“The current U.S. troop presence in Germany is in the U.S. national security interest. Full stop,” Menendez said in a statement, according The Hill.

Amazingly, the senator pulled the 'Putin wanted it' card, again suggesting that somehow Trump's major foreign policy decisions are ultimately at the bidding of the Kremlin:

“The administration has made no effort to explain how our country is stronger because of this drawdown decision. Because we’re not. This drawdown weakens America and Europe. And Vladimir Putin understands and appreciates that better than anyone.”

The Democratic leaders say they have bi-partisan support for blocking a Germany troop reduction.

Meanwhile Engel also played the Russia card, given the initial decades-long build-up of forces at multiple major bases in Germany were during the Cold War and aimed at the Soviets.

The first group pursued science. The second group pursued pseudo-science.

Merriam-Webster defines pseudo-science as “a system of theories, assumptions, and methods erroneously regarded as scientific.” The Oxford dictionary clarifies by stating, “a collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method.“

Pseudo-science quickly emerged as the principal domain of Technocrats, but they soon found that scientific debate with those promoting real science was most inconvenient to their social engineering goals. The solution was simple: claim that their own pseudo-science was indeed the real science, and then refuse debate by excluding all other voices to the contrary.

In the context of pseudo-science, this report will examine the three primary tools of fighting COVID-19: face masks, social distancing and contact tracing.

Face masks

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website plainly states that cloth face masks “Will not protect the wearer against airborne transmissible infectious agents due to loose fit and lack of seal or inadequate filtration.”

But, what about surgical masks? OHSA is clear here also that they “will not protect the wearer against airborne transmissible infectious agents due to loose fit and lack of seal or inadequate filtration.”

But then right under these statements, OSHA furiously backpedaled by adding an FAQ section on COVID-19 directly underneath and stated,

OSHA generally recommends that employers encourage workers to wear face coverings at work. Face coverings are intended to prevent wearers who have Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) without knowing it (i.e., those who are asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic) from spreading potentially infectious respiratory droplets to others. This is known as source control.

'They are planning a very safe and controlled opening'

President Donald Trump publicly contradicted his own coronavirus task force expert over the issue of whether professional football should be played despite the coronavirus risks.

"However, if they don't stand for our National Anthem and our Great American Flag, I won't be watching!!!" he added.

The president was responding to Fauci opining that it was too risky to play the NFL season during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Unless players are essentially in a bubble — insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day — it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall," Fauci said on Thursday.

Several football players have admitted to testing positive for coronavirus, including Ezekiel Elliot of the Dallas Cowboys and several Houston Texans players.

The NFL has said that they are still negotiating how the league can have a season while respecting social distancing guidelines as much as possible.

Fauci has also said that his meetings with the president have decreased in number since the nationwide unrest from the George Floyd protests and rioting.

Jefferson County public health officials on Tuesday declared systemic racism a public health crisis and passed a resolution that directs the local health agency to take steps to address health inequities, according to a news release.

The resolution, which was passed by the Jefferson County Board of Health and Jefferson County Public Health, follows recent demonstrations that have taken place across Colorado and the U.S. calling for racial justice and police use of force reforms.

The declaration also comes as the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted racial inequalities with people of color becoming sick at a disproportionately high rate. Previously, Denver public health officials announced they would offer free testing for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, at new locations to reach those most affected by the outbreak.

“The convergence of recent events — the novel coronavirus which has disproportionately affected people of color and further racial injustices — have catalyzed a need for action,” said Greg Deranleau, president of the Jefferson County Board of Health, in a statement. “We know that this work is too crucial to delay — injustice has already cost too many lives.”

Under the resolution, the public health agency says it will assess internal policies to make sure there is racial equity; develop policies to address systemic racism; engage with people of color to improve the conditions of where they live and work; and improve data collection to develop a justice-informed community health needs assessment and improvement plan, according to the news release.

California county sheriff says he won't enforce Newsom's coronavirus mask order

The sheriff's office for Sacramento County announced on Friday that it will not enforce Gov. Gavin Newsom's coronavirus order, which requires residents to wear masks or facial coverings while they are out in public.

The announcement came just one day after Newsom, a Democrat, issued the statewide order mandating the use of facemasks.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the sheriff’s office said residents should be “exercising safe practices” in the face of COVID-19, including the use of masks, but it also deemed the idea of enforcement to be “inappropriate,” because it would criminalize average Americans for a relatively small infraction.

“Due to the minor nature of the offense, the potential for negative outcomes during enforcement encounters, and anticipating the various ways in which the order may be violated, it would be inappropriate for deputies to criminally enforce the Governor’s mandate,” Sheriff Scott Jones' statement read.

A tweet from Geneva objecting to US authorities describing Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization has provoked calls to defund the United Nations and accusations that the UN is covering for the group.

“UN Human Rights experts express profound concern over a recent statement by the US Attorney-General describing [Antifa] and other anti-fascist activists as domestic terrorists, saying it undermines the rights to freedom of expression and of peaceful assembly in the country,” the UN Geneva office, home to the Human Rights Council, tweeted on Friday, accompanied by a photo of the Antifa banned.

No further information was given about who these experts might be, or whether this was the official position of the Human Rights Council, a body the US demonstratively left in June 2018, citing its criticism of Israel.

The unusual tweet quickly attracted controversy over the UN’s apparent endorsement of Antifa, whose masked activists have repeatedly clashed with conservatives and police on US streets over the past several years, including during the recent protests and riots.

“The United Nations is running cover for an international extremist group that has conducted violent insurrectionist attacks across North America and Europe,”tweeted journalist Jack Posobiec of OAN, adding“Antifa doesn’t exist and also the UN just endorsed them.”

Journalist Drew Holden brought up the Geneva office’s praise for China, adding that rather than defunding police, the US should “defund the UN.”

Fort Hood launches sexual harassment investigation in missing soldier Vanessa Guillen's disappearance

Fort Hood has initiated an internal investigation into allegations that Pfc. Vanessa Guillen, a soldier from Houston who has been missing since April 22, was sexually harassed.

Guillen was last seen April 22 in a parking lot at Fort Hood. She reportedly told her family she had been sexually harassed on base before her disappearance.

“I opened an investigation concerning the information provided by the Guillen Family that Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was harassed prior to her disappearance,” Col. Ralph Overland, Commander of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, said in a statement. “I take allegations of sexual harassment very seriously and we are conducting a thorough investigation.”

Overland appointed an investigating team led by a senior investigating officer to conduct a commander’s investigation, known as an “AR 15-6 Investigation,” into the allegations. The investigation will collect facts and evidence before presenting the findings to Overland.

DOJ Says Allowing Transgender Athletes To Compete Against Females Is ‘Fundamentally Unfair’

The Department of Justice filed a statement Friday backing Idaho’s Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, which has been challenged by a lawsuit aimed at preventing the bill from becoming law.

Republican Gov. Brad Little signed the nation’s first “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” on March 30, 2020. It will take effect July 1 and would prevent female sports teams from allowing a transgender athlete who identifies as a female to compete.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Legal Voice (ACLU) filed a lawsuit in April aimed at preventing the bill from becoming law. ACLU called the bill discriminatory and alleged that it is an invasion of privacy, WHIO TV 7 reported.

“Allowing biological males to compete in all-female sports is fundamentally unfair to female athletes,” Attorney General William P. Barr said according to a press release Friday. “Under the Constitution, the Equal Protection Clause allows Idaho to recognize the physiological differences between the biological sexes in athletics. Because of these differences, the Fairness Act’s limiting of certain athletic teams to biological females provides equal protection.”

“This limitation is based on the same exact interest that allows the creation of sex-specific athletic teams in the first place — namely, the goal of ensuring that biological females have equal athletic opportunities. Single-sex athletics is rooted in the reality of biological differences between the sexes and should stay rooted in objective biological fact.”

Democrat Official Faces Trial For Alleged Voter Fraud In Michigan

June 19, 2020

A prominent Michigan official who received an award from the state’s Democratic Party earlier this year is now facing six felony charges for stunning election crimes.

Sherikia Hawkins, who served as a city clerk for Southfield, allegedly forged records and falsely marked absentee ballots as invalid during the 2018 midterm election.

The Democrat was arrested on Monday after the Oakland County Clerk’s office noticed discrepancies in voter counts while certifying absentee ballots from Southfield.

After police got involved and conducted an investigation, authorities found that records had been altered so that 193 voter files were improperly listed as invalid, Townhall reported.

The charges include:

Count One: Election law – Falsifying returns/records, a five-year felony and/or $1,000;

Count Two: Forgery of a public record, a 14-year felony;

Count Three: Misconduct in office, a five-year felony and/or $10,000;

Count Four: Using a computer to commit a crime – election law – falsifying returns/records, a seven-year felony and/or $5,000;

Count Five: Using a computer to commit a crime – forgery of a public record, a 10-year felony and/or $10,000;

Count Six: Using a computer to commit a crime – misconduct in office, a seven-year felony, and/or $5,000.

The trial will come on the heels of more voting irregularities that were reported by Michigan Capitol Confidential after the Barry County Sheriff received a ballot application for an individual who had been dead and had not lived in the county for twenty years.

Attorney General Nessel’s announcement of pursuing these charges comes on the heels of more potential fraud in Michigan, as irregularities with absentee ballots are reported.

"Given the troubling accusations against Clerk Hawkins and the reports of ballot applications being sent to individuals not eligible to vote we are calling for a full audit into absentee ballot applications in Michigan," Tori Sachs, executive director of Michigan Rising Action, told Townhall.

Radical Islamist and Far Left Activist Umar Lee Launches Petition to Rename St. Louis City

Umar Lee once threatened to behead his critics and watch them squeal “like Daniel Pearl.”

Umar Lee is now passing around a petition to remove the grand St. Louis Statue from Art Hill in Forest Park in St. Louis.

A petition has been made with hopes of changing the city’s name in St. Louis and taking down a statue of its namesake, Saint Louis IX in Forest Park. The creators say the city’s name is “outright disrespect” to Jewish and Muslim residents and they’re asking for support.

The petition on Change.org was started this week, after the statue of Christopher Columbus in Tower Grove Park was taken away. Local writer Umar Lee is a co-signer of the petition.

“For those unfamiliar with King Louis IX he was a rabid anti-semite who spearheaded many persecutions against the Jewish people. Centuries later Nazi Germany gained inspiration and ideas from Louis IX as they embarked on a campaign of murderous genocide against the Jewish people. Louis IX was also vehemently Islamophobic and led a murderous crusade against Muslims which ultimately cost him his life,” the petition states.

The statue of Louis IX, which now sits on top of Art Hill in front of the St. Louis Art Museum, was unveiled in 1906. It served as the symbol of St. Louis until the Gateway Arch was completed in 1965.

Louis IX is the only King of France to be canonized in the Catholic Church. He became king when he was 12-years-old and is credited with changing the judicial process in France, with trials no longer being settled by combat, but instead by evidence and Roman law.

Louis led two Crusades to the Holy Land, both ending in catastrophe. On his first crusade, he was taken prisoner by Muslim forces in 1250 for which his countrymen were forced to pay a ransom. On his second crusade in 1270, Louis is credited as having restored the holy site at Tunis and having personally assisted in the burial of his dead soldiers.

Upon his death at Tunis in 1270, he was laid out on a bed of ashes in the shape of the cross.

Revered as a saint before his death, he was canonized by Pope Boniface VII in 1297.

St. Louis, the only King of France to be canonized was recently hailed as the “the greatest of all Saint-Kings” by biographer Jacques LeGoff.

DOJ Says Allowing Transgender Athletes To Compete Against Females Is ‘Fundamentally Unfair’

The Department of Justice filed a statement Friday backing Idaho’s Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, which has been challenged by a lawsuit aimed at preventing the bill from becoming law.

Republican Gov. Brad Little signed the nation’s first “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” on March 30, 2020. It will take effect July 1 and would prevent female sports teams from allowing a transgender athlete who identifies as a female to compete, WHIO TV 7 previously reported.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Legal Voice (ACLU) filed a lawsuit in April aimed at preventing the bill from becoming law. ACLU called the bill discriminatory and alleged that it is an invasion of privacy, WHIO TV 7 reported.

“Allowing biological males to compete in all-female sports is fundamentally unfair to female athletes,” Attorney General William P. Barr said according to a press release Friday. “Under the Constitution, the Equal Protection Clause allows Idaho to recognize the physiological differences between the biological sexes in athletics. Because of these differences, the Fairness Act’s limiting of certain athletic teams to biological females provides equal protection.”

“This limitation is based on the same exact interest that allows the creation of sex-specific athletic teams in the first place — namely, the goal of ensuring that biological females have equal athletic opportunities. Single-sex athletics is rooted in the reality of biological differences between the sexes and should stay rooted in objective biological fact.”

The DOJ’s comments were filed as “a statement of interest in Idaho federal court,” according to the press release. Barr challenged the ACLU’s claim that the Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause protects transgender athletes.

“In its statement of interest, the United States explains that the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution does not require States to abandon their efforts to provide biological women with equal opportunity to compete for, and enjoy the life-long benefits that flow from, participation in school athletics in order to accommodate the team preferences of transgender athletes,” according to the DOJ’s press release.

“Put differently, the Constitution does not require Idaho to provide the special treatment plaintiffs request, under which biological males are allowed to compete against biological females if and only if the biological males are transgender.”

The DOJ follows two female college athletes who have requested to be part of the lawsuit. The two young women, Madison Kenyon, 19 and Mary Marshall, 20, are being represented by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and wish for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

America, and my home state, Arizona, are at a crossroads. We have two roads we can take. One is a return to the path of freedom; the other is totalitarianism. This is not necessarily a partisan issue or even a left/right problem. It is a potential permanent alteration of who we are as a people.

Nothing typifies this more fully than the mandates to wear masks that some governors and mayors are imposing on their citizens. That so many in our country are immediately acquiescent in the broad implementation of mandated masks reveals that we may have lost our way, perhaps irretrievably.

An authoritarian leader typically exercises broad and seemingly endless power. The only two limitations that prevent abuse are the personal conscience of that leader or a rebellion by the people.

Leaders of a free people are elected and have a limited scope of authority delegated to them by those people and which are set forth in a charter. Our charter, of course, is the Constitution, which was designed to implement the principles of the Declaration of Independence.

A people who have never been free, always subjected to an authoritarian leader, become accustomed to dictates from the authoritarian leader. Sometimes those orders will seem reasonable, and sometimes they will be unnecessarily oppressive. But, in either case, it is extremely difficult for the oppressed to seek and obtain redress.

One might reasonably expect that a free people would express disapprobation toward government leaders who patently violate their freedoms. Indeed, in America, the founders of this country recognized that God has given people freedom to associate, freedom to speak, and concomitantly, freedom to think and dissent.

In fact, recent events have powerfully proven these points. Americans, almost universally, were content to see their countrymen march peacefully to protest the death of George Floyd.

When the protests were hijacked and replaced with rioting, looting, violence, and murder, most of the public justifiably recoiled. A line had been crossed. Marching and chanting was consistent with the American covenant that recognizes the rights to associate, speak, dissent, and seek redress from the government. When one destroys property or life, they violate the American promise and encroach on the freedoms of others.

Most people want the opportunity to pursue happiness in peace. The lawlessness we have seen recently, with the calls to defund and dismantle police departments, put at risk the opportunity for all to achieve the full measure of their creation.

That is why the vast majority of the country supports the police. The thin blue line has long stood between the oppressor and the oppressed, the strong and the weak, and between the violent and the peaceful.

But, even still, some municipalities have indicated that their voters want to eliminate police departments. While that seems dangerous, the notion of self-governance inherent in our American ethos would permit this reckless and foolish policy, but only insomuch as it does not infringe on the rights of citizens.

And that leads back to the mask mandates. Tyrannical governments have issued mandates that everyone in virtually every place wear masks. Their authority to do so is dubious.

In Friday Night Drama, US Attorney Geoffrey Berman Refuses To 'Step Down' After Barr Asks For Resignation

Geffrey Berman is refusing to step down as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York after Attorney General William Barr asked him to resign, according to Bloomberg.

"I learned in a press release from the Attorney General tonight that I was ‘stepping down’ as United States Attorney," said Berman, adding "I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning, my position, to which I was appointed by the judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

"I will step down when a presidentially appointed nominee is confirmed by the Senate... ...Until then, our investigations will move forward without delay or interruption."

Reacting to the news, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said "This late Friday night dismissal reeks of potential corruption of the legal process."

SDNY was pursuing several probes of the president’s business and his inaugural committee. It was also investigating Rudy Giuliani, an outspoken Trump supporter, and charged two of Giuliani’s associates. In his congressional testimony, Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen, whose conviction on campaign finance violations and other charges was secured by SDNY prosecutors, said he was cooperating with them on matters he couldn’t discuss. -Bloomberg

According to a NYT anonymous source that cannot be verified, President Trump has been unhappy with Berman since he went after Cohen, and has been discussing Berman's removal with a small group of advisers for some time.

United Air Is Said to Ready $5 Billion Debt Sale for Next Week

A group of banks led by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. may launch a $5 billion debt offering for United Airlines Holdings Inc. as soon as Monday, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

Goldman Sachs has started discussions with investors to gauge their level of interest, said the people, who asked not to be named because the talks are private. Early unofficial pricing discussions for a bond that could have a maturity of seven or eight years are for a yield of about 7%, the people said.

United is tapping its frequent-flyer program for the deal, the company’s biggest debt sale since the pandemic. The offering may also include leveraged loans and the debt could have one investment-grade rating, Bloomberg previously reported. Talks on the terms of the offering are preliminary and could change, the people said.

Representatives for Goldman Sachs and United declined to comment.

Goldman, Barclays Plc and Morgan Stanley committed to provide the financing to United in exchange for a claim on MileagePlus, the loyalty program the airline established in 1981, according to a company presentation. Since the banks have underwritten the debt, they will be eager to begin marketing and offload it to investors soon, according to the people. United nixed an effort to sell $2.25 billion of junk bonds last month because it wasn’t satisfied with the terms. Some investors balked at the aging fleet of jetliners pledged as collateral.

Since then, companies rushing to shore up cash during the Covid-19 pandemic are fueling the most active June ever in the U.S. junk-bond market. Borrowers have raised about $45.5 billion, making it the busiest month since $46.4 billion was sold in September 2013, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

American Airlines Group Inc. is looking at raising around $2 billion from a junk bond offering that may emerge as soon as next week, according to other people with knowledge of the matter.

A free society might handle this differently. The easiest case is to allow private businesses and landowners to determine the measures they think most appropriate for public health and safety. We used to do that, prior to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Further, those who are uneasy about the safety programs of the business would, as a responsible person, determine whether they wanted to patronize that business. Some businesses would see the need to be stricter in enforcement of health and safety measures, some less so.

The key is that each free person would be able to make their choice.

In public venues, controlled by public bodies, they would make the decision on how to proceed. The voters would determine whether their leaders acted appropriately. Dictatorial measures might even produce peaceful protests to express disapprobation.

In Arizona, we are seeing tremendous government overreach. The universal mask policies cross the line. The leaders who make these orders are abusing their power and reaching into the private domains of their citizens. On this issue, they certainly resemble autocrats rather than public servants.

Soros-Affiliated Anti-Deportation Group Part of ‘Defund Police’ Movement

An anti-deportation group affiliated with leftist billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundations is one of the groups behind the “defund the police” movement taking place across America.

The Soros-affiliated group has been part of the “defund the police” movement as far back as early 2016 — long before the death of George Floyd that brought it to national attention. While many Americans see the current protests and riots as organic reactions to the death of Floyd, many organized groups are seizing on the momentum.

When the government said it would give out thousands of dollars in bailout loans grants under the Paycheck Protection Program, every eligible business - which was most small and medium businesses (that had no access to capital markets) with up to 500 employees, signed up. And why not: it was free money from a government that had launched helicopter money, and was seeking to ram the newly created money into the economy. There was no downside - the grants would be forgiven if used to pay wages or rent, and - at least according to widespread speculation - the loans would remain a secret. Which is why it was so surprising when it emerged that some "asset managers" such as Ritholtz Asset Management, led by Josh Brown and Barry Ritholtz, had also accepted bailout grants to stay in business. In retrospect, Ritholtz is the author of Bailout Nation so it probably should not have been a surprise.

What should have been a surprise is that an asset manager - i.e., a professional collecting generous fees to predict the future and entrusted with billions in capital not only failed to do that, but himself needed a bailout. It just goes to show how important it is to pick very calm and patient clients.

Eleven news organizations had sued to make details about PPP loan recipients public.

Which is bad news for all those "financial advisors" like Ritholtz who will soon be revealed as getting paid to "predict" the future, yet not having the sense to even budget for a short-term crisis, let along have hedges in place for a downside scenario. As for the rest, it's unclear how willing most small businesses would have been had they known that the very act of requesting a bailout would open them up to eventual public shaming.

Friday on MSNBC, network political commentator former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) accused President Donald Trump’s supporters of “gleefully putting other people at risk” by attending the president’s rally on Saturday in Tulsa, OK during the coronavirus pandemic.

After playing a clip from 2016 Trump encouraging his supporter to “knock the crap” out of protesters, host Joy Reid said, “He’s very George Wallace. You go back and look at old videos of George Wallace rallies in New York, that’s how he sounded as well. What do you make of Donald Trump potentially bringing that energy to a place like Tulsa that has the history that Tulsa has, you know? What do you make of that?”

McCaskill said, “He specializes in being combative and confrontational, and obviously he doesn’t feel any need to lead or unite in this incredibly painful moment in our country’s history we are all coming to grips with how badly we have handled systemic racism in this country. You know, add to that, Joy, the rally where he was talking to police officers and encouraged them to physically hurt the suspects they were putting in their police cars.”

She continued, “So not only is he embracing a physical confrontation, he’s embracing police officers abusing people under their custody and control, and it is outrageous. And the fact that he has called off the curfew, it’s almost like he wants there to be a problem, that he wants there to be physical violence, that somehow that will justify his rally. It is discouraging. I am really proud of all the people that were there today celebrating Juneteenth. They were socially distancing in a state that is really dangerous right now in terms of coronavirus. You won’t see that kind of social distancing at the rally. You’ll see people gleefully putting other people at risk.”
