ho is the richest person to have lived? Given the impossibility of comparing chariots with private jets, this is an absurd question. But it is still one economists have sought to answer, with perhaps the best measure – as defined by Adam Smith – based on annual income as a multiple of the average wage of fellow citizens.

Their answer is not Marcus Crassus, whose fortune was the same size as the entire government treasury of the Roman Empire. His annual return was paltry for a plutocrat, equating to the average yearly income of 32,000 Romans. Nor was it those robber barons of the Gilded Age – Andrew Carnegie, whose wealth peaked in 1901, took home the same as 48,000 typical Americans while John D Rockefeller's vast riches yielded an annual income equal to 116,000 of his countrymen.

The wealth of these figures from history pales in comparison with the strutting financiers of Wall Street, the geeky billionaires of Silicon Valley and the grisly oligarchs who plundered Russia. Trumping them all is Carlos Slim, the telecoms tycoon whose £53bn fortune is equal to that of an incredible 400,000 of his fellow Mexicans.

There has always been a gap between rich and poor but this is just one sign of how the gulf has widened into a chasm over the past few decades. Creaming off more and more wealth is a new elite, a transglobal class of mainly self-made men carving out unimaginable fortunes. They are the subject of this timely and absorbing analysis by former Financial Times deputy editor Chrystia Freeland.

Forget the 1% targeted by the Occupy mob. Freeland is talking about the 0.1 per centers who look down with disdain at the paupers scrabbling around on a few million a year. She quotes another shocking sign of our times: three decades ago the average American chief executive made 42 times as much as the average worker; today this ratio is an obscene 380. And bear in mind the richer you are, the smaller proportion of your income you tend to pay in tax, levels diminishing even at the very top of the tree.

How can we tell when a democracy, or rule by the people, evolves into a plutocracy, the reign of the rich? Easy. We have a democracy when a political system can and does make a good-faith effort to address the problems average people face.

In a plutocracy, on the other hand, the political system pays no more than lip-service to average people’s problems and works diligently instead at protecting — and growing — the wealth of the already wealthy.

By this simple standard, we Americans today unquestionably live in a plutocracy. Our freshest slam-dunk evidence: the record of the decade since the Wall Street financial crash ushered in the Great Recession.

Almost exactly ten years ago, in late summer 2008, the tremors that had been roiling the U.S. economy ever since the housing bubble popped the year before turned into an economic earthquake. The giant Lehman Brothers investment bank fell into one yawning fissure. The giant insurer AIG stumbled toward another.

“Citigroup appeared poised to go down next, with General Motors and Chrysler to follow,” remembers the New Yorker’s George Packer. “Everything solid in the American economy turned out to be built on sand.”

No American born after the 1929 crash had ever since anything like this. In quick order, about 9 million workers lost their jobs. About the same number of families lost their homes.

What happened next? Plutocracy happened next. The American political system came rushing to the rescue of the same elites whose frauds and financial manipulations had greased the skids for the crisis.

Earlier this week, a triumphant Wall Street celebrated that rescue, on the day the stock market reached a historic milestone: 3,453 days of bull market, arguably, the New York Times noted, the longest bull market in American financial history.

US F-15 fighter jet crashes into North Sea

A U.S. Air Force F-15C Eagle fighter jet crashed at approximately 9:40 am local time today in the North Sea.

The cause of the crash as well as the status of the pilot are unknown at this time. The pilot remains missing and U.K. Search and Rescue have been called to support.

The jet was from the 48th Fighter Wing, stationed at RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

Col. Will Marshall, 48th Fighter Wing commander, released a video statement saying, “Search and Rescue effort are currently underway, but the pilot of the aircraft is still missing. We will provide updates as they become available, while prioritizing respect and consideration for the pilot’s family.”

Last week, two former Republican state senators were found murdered in their homes within 2 days of each other.Speculation has arisen that the murders may be connected. The obvious question has been, how? Is it possible that the connection between the murder of former Arkansas State Senator Linda Collins-Smith and former Oklahoma State Senator Jonathan Nichols was that they both sought to bring justice to pedophiles, those who engage in human trafficking and protect the innocent? It’s spreading.

Anti-police Black Lives Matter – Antifa protesters took over the plaza in front of the capitol building in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday. The group proclaimed it an “autonomous zone” like the CHAZ compound in Seattle. About 50 protesters are camping out in the plaza in front of the capitol building.

The group renamed the plaza “Ida B. Wells Plaza.”

Justice Alito Fires Warning Shot After Supreme Court Hijacks Congress’s Power to Legislate by Redefining “Sex” to “Sexual Orientation”

The Supreme Court on Monday hijacked Congress’s power to legislate and redefined “sex” to “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.”

The highest court of the land decided by a 6-3 vote to essentially rewrite a federal civil right’s law.

For years the left has been fighting to change this federal law, and on Monday, 6 unelected judges rewrote the law.

Associated Press reported:

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a landmark civil rights law protects LGBT people from discrimination in employment, a resounding victory for LGBT rights from a conservative court.

The court decided by a 6-3 vote that a key provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 known as Title VII that bars job discrimination because of sex, among other reasons, encompasses bias against LGBT workers.

Conservative justices Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas dissented.

Neil Gorsuch, a Trump appointee, sided with the liberal justices.

“An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the court. “Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids.”

Justice Alito fired a warning shot and said Monday’s ruling could destroy women’s sports, weaken religious freedom, weaken freedom of speech and personal privacy.

“The Court tries to convince readers that it is merely enforcing the terms of the statute, but that is preposterous,” Alito wrote in the dissent. “Even as understood today, the concept of discrimination because of ‘sex’ is different from discrimination because of ‘sexual orientation’ or ‘gender identity.’”

“There is only one word for what the Court has done today: legislation. The document that the Court releases is in the form of a judicial opinion interpreting a statute, but that is deceptive.” Alito added.

Constitutional lawyer Mark Levin weighed in.

“Today’s Supreme Court decision will be lauded and celebrated in the media as “historic.” There will be little or any criticism of the Court’s complete disregard for the actual law and its legislative activism in violation of separation of powers,” Levin said in a tweet.

I would like to introduce you, the reader, to some realities of our global banking system, resting on the rhetoric of free markets, but functioning, in actuality, as a global cartel, a “super-entity” in which the world’s major banks all own each other and own the controlling shares in the world’s largest multinational corporations, influence governments and policy with politicians in their back pockets, routinely engaging in fraud and bribery, and launder hundreds of billions of dollars in drug money, not to mention arms dealing and terrorist financing. These are the “too big to fail” and “too big to jail” banks, the centre of our global economy, what we call a “free market,” implying that the global banks – and corporations – have “free reign” to do anything they please, engage in blatantly criminal activities, steal trillions in wealth which is hidden offshore, and never get more than a slap on the wrist. This is the real “free market,” a highly profitable global banking cartel, functioning as a worldwide financial Mafia.

In October of 2011, New Scientist reported that a scientific study on the global financial system was undertaken by three complex systems theorists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. The conclusion of the study revealed what many theorists and observers have noted for years, decades, and indeed, even centuries: “An analysis of the relationships between 43,000 transnational corporations has identified a relatively small group of companies, mainly banks, with disproportionate power over the global economy.” As one of the researchers stated, “Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it’s conspiracy theories or free-market… Our analysis is reality-based.” Using a database which listed 37 million companies and investors worldwide, the researchers studied all 43,060 trans-national corporations (TNCs), including the share ownerships linking them.

Major Military Search Underway After US F-15 Jet Crashes In North Sea

A US Air Force F-15 fighter jet has crashed in the North Sea off England's coast on Monday, triggering a major UK search and rescue mission as the fate the pilot is as yet unknown.

"A U.S. Air Force F-15C Eagle crashed at approximately 0940 [local time] today in the North Sea. The aircraft was from the 48th Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom," a UK 48th Fighter Wing statement said. "At the time of the accident, the aircraft was on a routine training mission with one pilot on board."

"The cause of the crash as well as the status of the pilot are unknown at this time, and U.K. Search and Rescue have been called to support," it added.

The UK coast guard is leading the search effort alongside the US military after the coast guard received alerts of "an aeroplane going down into the sea 74 nautical miles off Flamborough Head."

The US Air Force also confirmed the F-15C Eagle was reported going down over the sea in an area off the coast frequently used for military flight training exercises.

$14 Million: Campaign Smashes Online Fundraising Records for Donald Trump’s Birthday

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and the Republican National Committee announced Monday they had raised $14 million in online fundraising in just 24-hours on the president’s birthday. “Quite a birthday gift for Donald Trump yesterday!” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale wrote on social media, sharing the numbers from a Fox News report. “Biggest single-day ONLINE fundraising total ever – $14 million.” Trump turned 74 on Sunday.

The Trump Make America Great Again Committee (TMAGAC) also participated in the fundraising effort. The Biden campaign continues struggling to close the funding gap with President Trump. Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised more than $60 million in April but were bested by the Trump campaign and the RNC which raised $61.7 million in the same month. Republicans have over $255 million in cash on hand, nearly $187 million more than Biden and the DNC. “That’s grassroots support that Sleepy @JoeBiden can only dream of,” Parscale wrote. “The enthusiasm gap is real and it is wide!”

Menacing speaker asks far-left Seattle protesters what happened to those who didn't support French Revolution. 'Chopped!' they reply.

'That is the message we need to send! We are serious! This is not a joke!'

Apparently unsatisfied with being allowed to create their own autonomous zone around the Seattle police department's abandoned East Precinct, far-left protesters on Sunday night made their way over to the police department's West Precinct, where they chanted and made speeches, the Seattle Times reported.

"It is not CHAZ, it is CHOP!" one speaker barked into a megaphone, a reference to the previous acronym of the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, which apparently is now known as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, the paper said.

Then the speaker reminded his comrades of deadly retribution delivered amid a well-known historical revolt.

"Has anybody here ever heard of the French Revolution before?" he asked before noting it began "because people started putting property over lives! They started putting money over people! Does anybody here know what happened to the people who did not get on board with the French Revolution?"

"Chopped!" the crowd shouted back several times.

"That is the message we need to send! We are serious! This is not a joke!" the speaker continued. "I'm tired of seeing my people be genocided by every definition of the word."

Despite numerous reports of rapes, robberies, and examples of threatening, lawless behavior inside the autonomous zone, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee — both far-left Democrats — have insisted the protesters are peaceful.

"Peaceful protests are fundamentally American," Inslee tweeted recently, "and I am hopeful there will be a peaceful resolution."

Durkan raved about the autonomous zone's "block party atmosphere" and predicted it could usher in a "Summer of Love."

She also said the area "is not a lawless wasteland of anarchist insurrection — it is a peaceful expression of our community's collective grief and their desire to build a better world."

After the speeches were over Sunday night, the protesters went back to CHOP, the Times reported, adding that one of the protest leaders suggested returning to the West Precinct every day at 6:30 p.m.

As they walked back toward Capitol Hill, they chanted, "No justice, no peace! No racist police!" the paper added.

Indian city Chennai reimposes lockdown amid flurry of new coronavirus cases

Authorities in the Tamil Nadu state capital Chennai are imposing a new 12-day strict lockdown amid a resurgence in coronavirus cases in the region. The new measures will begin from June 19.

Chennai city and three neighboring districts will reimpose lockdown measures for 12 days including two full days of complete lockdown

“Considering the spread of the virus and based on the recommendation of medical and health experts, an intense lockdown will be in force from 00.00hours of June 19 and midnight of June 30," chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said in a statement Monday.

The local government will provide Rs 1,000 ($13.15) cash support for all residents dependent on ration cards as well as other unspecified relief to help those struggling during the lockdowns.

All state and central government offices will function at 33 percent capacity while travel will be permitted only in the event of medical emergencies. Those living within containment zones will be exempted from work for the duration.

Meanwhile, shops providing essential groceries will be permitted to remain open for limited hours while restaurants will be permitted to provide takeaway and delivery services.

As of Sunday, Tamil Nadu had a reported 44,661 Covid-19 cases, 31,896 of which were recorded in Chennai. The state has recorded some 435 deaths, however, many have claimed the figures have been underreported and the figure is expected to rise.
