Massive bribe to stop Ukraine probe of Burisma founder intercepted

Ukranian Officials on Saturday announced they intercepted a $6 million bribe attempt to stop a criminal investigation into the president of Burisma, the natural-gas company at the center of President Trump’s impeachment investigation.

At a news conference, the officials displayed large bags of seized U.S. currency.

Leaked document reveals secret Turkish plan to invade Greece

A leaked high-level Turkish military document has revealed the existence of secret Turkish plans to invade Greece and Armenia. The plan for an invasion of Greece is particularly baffling considering that both countries are members of the NATO alliance, and allegedly allies, but unsurprising given an escalation in Turkey’s provocative moves against its European neighbor recently.

The documents were revealed and republished in a report by Nordic Monitor. The document, which is a PowerPoint presentation that had been prepared for the Turkish General Staff, was discovered in a file that was used in a court case stemming from an investigation into the role of the General Staff in the failed coup against Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The coup was attempted in July 2016, and some elements of the Turkish Armed Forces participated in it.

Serdar Coşkun, the Prosecutor who was assigned to the investigation, ordered all of the e-mails exchanged between officers at Turkey’s General Staff headquarters from the previous two months to be collected for the investigation in August 2016. Three officers ended up being indicted, and the e-mails were turned over to Ankara’s 17th High Criminal Court as part of the indictment. This presentation was one of the documents that was forwarded.

The presentation bears the date of June 13, 2014 and has the name “Turkish Armed Forces Çaka Bey Operation Planning Directive.” It lists planned offensives against Greece, plus the dates when they were first developed. The document does not contain any details of the invasion plans, however, given that these are marked classified and, under Turkish military procedures, cannot be transmitted by e-mail for security reasons. But it does confirm the existence of Turkey’s invasion plans.

Çaka Bey was an eleventh-century Turkish naval commander who conquered several of Greece’s islands in the Aegean Sea as well as some of the Greek mainland’s territory along the Aegean coast during the era of the Byzantine Empire. Çaka Bey is seen as a national hero in Turkey and is considered the founder of the Turkish navy.

It appears that the presentation was drawn up as part of a contingency plan that was being developed in regard to the Syrian War. The Turkish General Staff was planning to move forces to the Syrian border at the time and wanted to ensure that this wouldn’t jeopardize their ability to launch offensives against their other neighbors, such as Greece.

Also included in the leak is a letter written by Lieutenant General Uğur Tarçın, Chief of General Staff Communications, in March 2017 in which he warned the General Staff’s legal department that the correspondence that had been forwarded for the investigation included secret documents pertaining to national security which should not be shared with unauthorised personnel. This indicates that the General Staff was keen to ensure that the existence of the invasion plans did not reach the outside world. Turkish prosecutors appear to have ignored his warning, however.

The document also references Operation Altay, which is a plan for an offensive against Armenia, which was already known.

Trump to sign policing executive order on Tuesday – aide

US President Donald Trump is likely to sign an executive order on policing on Tuesday, his deputy assistant Ja’Ron Smith told reporters outside the White House, as Black Lives Matter protests continue across the country.

Smith said that family members of victims of police violence may attend the signing, but that he did not want to get “ahead” of Trump on who may or may not attend.

The executive order is expected to contain a number of new initiatives focusing on police reform, such as the creation of national standards for the use of force and tracking police conduct, civil rights attorney S. Lee Merritt told PBS NewsHour on Sunday. It will not include plans to defund the police, as called for by activists, Trump said last week, but will contain recommendations for “tactics for de-escalation.”

“We’ll take care of our police. We’re not defunding police. If anything, we’re going the other route.” Trump said on Thursday, adding that they would ensure police are “well-trained, perfectly trained [and that] they have the best equipment.”

Trump has faced pressure to respond to the outrage generated by the police killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May and of Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday. The deaths are just the latest in a long list of black people killed by law enforcement in the US.

‘Total Surrender to Anarchy’: English Police Force Advises Officers to ‘Take The Knee’ in Front of BLM Protests

An English police force has suggested that officers ‘take the knee’ during Black Lives Matter protests in order to avoid unwanted attention from the leftist activists, a move which Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage described as “insanity mixed with cowardice”.

Hertfordshire Constabulary advised officers symbolically join the BLM movement by kneeling during a recent briefing for Operation Velour, claiming that the gesture of submission has a “very positive” effect on protests.

“Officers are to be mindful that this is optional and those who do not do so may become the focus of the protestors’ attention,” the advice said according to the Mail on Sunday.

“This has a very positive and engaging effect and when taken by officers, has a positive reaction on the protest groups,” Hertfordshire Constabulary added.

A senior detective from the constabulary slammed the move, saying: “It’s absurd. Will officers be expected to make similarly appeasing gestures at political events – far-Right protests, for instance?”

Nigel Farage also blasted the police force, remarking: “That Hertfordshire police want their officers to take the knee before protestors is a total surrender to anarchy, Marxism and an organisation that wants them abolished. Insanity mixed with cowardice.”

Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoyin Salau found dead

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — The Tallahassee Police Department has identified Oluwatoyin "Toyin" Salau as a murder victim after a week of searching for her as a missing person.

Police also say the suspect in this case, 49-year-old Aaron Glee Jr., has been arrested. The other victim in the double murder was 75-year-old Victoria Sims, according to TPD.

Salau's name was trending on social media for a week. Salau was a vocal activist and had appeared on several videos of the protests here in the state's capital. She was last seen on June 6 in the area of Orange Avenue and Wahnish Way in Tallahassee.

Before she disappeared, Salau had sent tweets about being attacked. The Tallahassee Community Action Committee organized a search party for her on Wednesday, June 10.

Manhattan Judge Releases Violent Looter who Beat the Hell out of NYPD Cop

A radical Manhattan judge released a violent looter from jail without bond after he bashed a NYPD officer in the back of the head with a stolen bong.

The officer took several days to recover from the injury.

Now the looter, Kevin Bullock, is back out on the street.

The New York Post reported:

A Manhattan judge set free an alleged looter charged with bashing a cop’s head open with a glass bong swiped amid violent protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd, The Post has learned.

The move marked at least the second time that Judge Laurie Peterson has overruled prosecutors and released a defendant without bail — which in the earlier case allegedly led to a pair of unprovoked slashings by the psycho who got sprung.

“What could she possibly be thinking? Is she living under a rock? Did she see the looting going on in the city?” said a cop who worked in Manhattan every night of the recent riots.

“I guess they really want to do away with cops and let the criminals run wild.”

Woke Mob Targets Beatles Inspiration Penny Lane After Rumors Street Was Named for Slave Trader

Penny Lane, the Liverpool, England street that inspired the hit Beatles song of the same name, is the latest target of the Maoist cultural revolution woke mob trying to erase history. Penny Lane street signs were hit by vandals who spray-painted the signs with “racist” after social media rumors based on a questionable museum claim that the street was named for 18th Century slave ship owner James Penny. There is also talk of renaming the street.

“Every road sign along Penny Lane in #Liverpool has been vandalised overnight, including the one signed by @PaulMcCartney It’s ahead of more planned #BlackLivesMatter protests over the weekend.”

Outraged Liverpool residents cleaned up the signs:

The Liverpool Echo reported Mayor Joe Anderson saying the street was not named for Penney but most likely for an old toll bridge:

…When asked if he would rename Penny Lane this week, the Mayor said : “My understanding is that there is no evidence that “Penny Lane” is named after slave trader James Penny.

“It is debated and said that there was a toll bridge that cost a penny there hence its name.”

Yesterday the head of the city’s International Slavery Museum said the street would be removed from a display on the city’s slavery links if it was established it was not linked to James Penny.

However this explanation is clearly not accepted by someone, who has today defaced all the Penny Lane road signs with what appears to be spray paint.

Local councillor and Liberal Democrat leader in the city, Cllr Richard Kemp said the move was ‘disgraceful’ and has immediately asked the council to sort it.

He said: “I’m really annoyed about this, this is just based on a rumour that has gone around that Penny Lane is named after James Penny – which just isn’t true.

…The International Slavery Museum, at the Albert Dock, currently has an interactive display which informs visitors that Penny Lane was named after James Penny, the anti-abolitionist who was said to have defended slave trade to the British Parliament.

The Beatles, who came from Liverpool, made Penny Lane internationally famous upon the release of the group’s 1967 double-A side single Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane. Both songs referenced Liverpool places from the Beatles’ youth. Paul McCartney wrote Penny Lane, John Lennon wrote Strawberry Fields Forever.

BP(BP.LN)'s big asset write-downs (https://www.wsj.com/articles/bp-takes-17-5-billion-write-down-expects-oil-price-to- stay-low-11592211169?mod=hp_lead_pos3) hint at a new seriousness in the company's green ambitions. Investors may be slow to appreciate the strategic shift, however necessary.

On Monday, the British energy producer said it would write down up to $17.5 billion of oil-and-gas assets. Recently installed Chief Executive Bernard Looney said the change was necessary because the Covid-19 crisis (https:// www.wsj.com/articles/what-we-know-about-the-coronavirus-11579716128)will have an "enduring economic impact" and because countries are accelerating efforts to decarbonize.

The move makes a dividend cut in the company's coming second-quarter results much more likely. The impairments won't require cash, but will make BP's already high leverage ratios look worse. Oil companies tend to measure their net debt relative to total capital, so write-downs have a similar effect to an increase in borrowings.

The dividend has been in doubt almost ever since BP's exiting boss raised it (https://www.wsj.com/articles/bps-big- dividends-come-with-costs-11580821970?mod=article_inline)as a parting gift in February. BP reaffirmed its commitment (https://www.wsj.com/articles/bp-is-stuck-in-the-past-11588695560) in the first quartereven as its London-listed peer Royal Dutch Shell (RDSA.LN)cut its payout (https://www.wsj.com/articles/shells-dividend-cut-is-harsh-but-fair- 11588254430) for the first time since World War IIbut relied on asset sales to fund it. Oil companies have faced a double crisis as Covid-19 lockdowns have reduced energy demand amid a global oil glut.

BP's new forecasts assume long-term prices of $55 a barrel for oil, $2.90 a million British thermal units of gas and $ 100 a metric ton for carbon from 2030. The company expects governments to act faster to decarbonize the economy and push up carbon prices. Recent stimulus packages from Berlin, Paris and Brussels all incorporate big clean-energy spending commitments.

Until recently, BP was less focused on green projects than its regional rivals Shell and Total(FP.FR). But Mr. Looney promised in February that BP would be a carbon-neutral business by 2050 or sooner. Monday's write-downs offer some indication that this is more than just hot air, particularly as about half of them relate to prospects that presumably won't be explored.

Green commitments are good for the environment and popular with Europeans, but investors seem less impressed. Shares of Chevron (CVX)and Exxon Mobil(XOM), which are much less focused on decarbonization, trade at a premium to those of their European rivals.

NATO’s colonization of Ukraine under guise of partnership

NATO has extended yet another in a long line of “incentives” designed to tease Ukraine with the prospects of joining the transatlantic alliance, while stopping short of actual membership.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has designated Ukraine as an “Enhanced Opportunity Partner,” making it one of six nations (the others being Georgia, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Jordan) rewarded for their significant contributions to NATO operations and alliance objectives by having the opportunity for increased dialogue and cooperation with the alliance.

A main objective of this enhanced interaction is for NATO and Ukraine to develop operational capabilities and interoperability through military exercises which will enable Ukrainian military personnel to gain practical hands-on experience in operating with NATO partners.

Seen in this light, the “Enhanced Opportunity Partner” status is an extension of the “Partnership Interoperability Initiative” designed to maintain the military interoperability between NATO and Ukraine, developed after more than a decade of involvement by Ukraine in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. Thus Kiev keeps open the door for the possibility of military cooperation in any future NATO operational commitment, ensuring that Ukrainian military forces would be able to fight side by side with NATO if called upon to do so.

Gaza rocket strikes field in Israel as Hamas urges ‘resistance’ to annexation

Projectile strikes open area in Eshkol region, no damage reported, as terror groups in the Strip threaten to step up clashes along the border

Terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket into southern Israel on Monday night, striking an empty field, causing no injuries or damage, the military said.

The launch triggered sirens in the fields near where the rocket hit, in the Eshkol region of southern Israel, but not in any populated areas, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The attack came amid rising tensions between Israel and terror groups in the Strip, including threats of military action by the latter, apparently over delays in the transfer of Qatari aid money to Gaza, as well as the Israeli government’s plans to annex portions of the West Bank.

In recent days, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the two most powerful terror groups in Gaza, have threatened to step up clashes along the border, following months of relative calm in the area.

Earlier on Monday, senior Hamas official Salah al-Bardawil called for “the annexation project to be confronted with resistance in all forms.”

Hamas deputy political chief Saleh al-Arouri told the Hamas-linked al-Resalah TV channel that “mass actions” were being planned “in all regions,” in protest against Israel’s planned annexation.

“We cannot exclude the possibility that — in the wake of Israeli aggression — matters may reach a point of escalation in the confrontation, which might lead to military escalation,” al-Arouri said.

Supreme Court sidesteps new cases on gun rights, police protections

The Supreme Court on Monday sidestepped two hot-button issues by declining to take up cases next term involving Second Amendment rights and legal protections for police officers.

The justices chose not to add nearly a dozen new gun-rights disputes, including over the right to carry a firearm in public, and declined opportunities to revisit the legal doctrine of qualified immunity, which generally shields government employees from being held liable for alleged wrongdoing.

The results mean fewer than four justices agreed to take up the cases next term, which begins in October.

Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the court’s most staunch conservatives, dissented from the court’s decision to deny the reviews. He was joined by fellow conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh in dissenting from the denial of a new Second Amendment dispute.

Earlier this term, the court avoided issuing a major ruling on the constitutionality of a New York City handgun regulation, with the justices writing in an unsigned opinion that the city’s repeal of a controversial restrictions rendered the legal challenge moot.

But in a 31-page dissent, three conservative justices said the case should not have been dismissed. They expressed concerns that the court’s prior Second Amendment rulings were being applied incorrectly by lower courts.

In a landmark 2008 case, District of Columbia v. Heller, the court said the Second Amendment enshrines an individual’s right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. The court decided two years later that right applies at both the federal and state levels.

But the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s decision in the Heller case left key questions unanswered about the scope of the Second Amendment and how courts should determine when those rights were infringed, leaving it to lower courts to fill the gap over the past decade.

In his dissent today, Thomas said he would have granted review to one of the cases in order “to clarify that the Second Amendment protects a right to public carry.”

The justices also declined to take up any of the eight separate cases asking them to revisit qualified immunity.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that the Trump administration wants Israeli annexation of West Bank land to be done with the support of Defense Minister Benny Gantz, multiple media outlets reported, while Blue and White officials said that they could not present a position on the plan, as the premier had thus far failed to outline it clearly.

According to Channel 12 news, Netanyahu told a group of senior IDF reserve officers who support annexation that he did not plan to back down from his plan to extend sovereignty over the roughly 30 percent of the West Bank allocated to Israel under US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

Netanyahu said, however, that he had not reached an agreement with his coalition partners Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi on this, and therefore annexation could potentially happen in stages, Channel 13 news reported.

Daily Beast tech reporter Will Sommer has reported heavily on QAnon for nearly three years and told Fox News that QAnon believers think even he “is going to get arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay.” Sommer explained that what is truly concerning, however, goes beyond the conspiracy and has evolved into fatal, real-world violence.

A man charged with killing the reputed boss of the Gambino crime family last March showed off a QAnon symbol scrawled on his left hand during a court appearance. Police in Colorado have also said a 50-year-old woman, inspired by QAnon, sought to kidnap her own child.

Hawkish, Gov’t Funded Think Tank Behind Twitter Decision to Delete Thousands of Chinese Accounts

Twitter’s decision came after close collaboration with a deeply controversial U.S. and Australian government-funded think tank that has been denounced by Australia’s former ambassador in Beijing as “the architect of the China threat theory in Australia.”

Social media giant Twitter announced yesterday that it had shut down over 170,000 accounts favorable to the Chinese Communist Party, as well as more than 1,000 Russian and 7,340 Turkish accounts it claimed were parroting Putin and Erdogan propaganda. Is this evidence of massive Chinese infiltration and control over Western social media? Not quite. Not making the headlines was the fact that virtually all the accounts communicated in Chinese dialects exclusively and the vast majority (95 percent) had fewer than eight followers, with nearly four in five having no followers whatsoever.

Twitter accused the accounts of “spreading geopolitical narratives favorable to the Communist Party of China,” pushing “deceptive narratives” on the Hong Kong protests, praising China’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and “antagonizing” the U.S. If this is the basis for removal, it sets a potentially very dangerous precedent.

Despite the impression given in mainstream media, the medical community has effusively lauded Beijing’s “leadership” and “commitment to transparency,” in the World Health Organization’s words. “I have never seen the scale and commitment of an epidemic response at this level in terms of all of government,” said the organization’s Chief Executive Director for Health Emergencies, Michael Ryan, “The challenge is great, but the response has been massive and the Chinese government deserve huge credit.” Likewise, the editors of The Lancet, the world’s most prestigious medical journal, published a statement saluting the “diligent,” “effective” and “rapid” Chinese response and “strongly condemn conspiracy theories” pushed by U.S. officials like Senator Tom Cotton, that the virus’ origin was man-made. Likewise, only around 58 percent of Hong Kong residents support the protests, with that number being far lower in Mainland China. Is taking a different line on the protests or China’s COVID response to the Trump administration a violation of the rules? In the case of Facebook and Instagram and the killing of General Qassem Soleimani, the platforms explicitly said it was, and deleted a great number of posts and accounts.

Pushing “a new Cold War with China”

Twitter worked closely with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) in making yesterday’s decision. ASPI is a deeply controversial U.S. and Australian government-funded think tank based in Canberra, and was denounced by Australia’s former ambassador in Beijing as “the architect of the China threat theory in Australia.” Senator Kim Carr claimed ASPI was working hand-in-hand with Washington, trying to push “a new Cold War with China.” Former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bob Carr (no relation), agreed, saying it pushed a “one-sided, pro-American view of the world.” This certainly seems to be the case, judging by their website, which appears uniformly dedicated to demonizing China.

Perhaps most notable, however, is that ASPI is also funded by a myriad of weapons companies, including Raytheon Australia, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin, all of whom would greatly benefit from a war with China. And as The Grayzone’s Ajit Singh pointed out, ASPI is headed by ultra-hawkish defense official Peter Jennings, who defended the Iraq War, supports regime change in other Middle Eastern states, and argued that “the West is setting the bar for military response too high”.

“One QAnon believer with an improvised armored truck and some guns blocked a highway near the Hoover Dam for a couple hours and was basically kind of ranting about Q,” explained Sommer.

Fortunately, 32-year-old Matthew Wright did not harm anyone during the Hoover Dam ordeal and eventually pleaded guilty to a terrorism charge. In a letter from jail explaining that he was motivated by patriotism, Wright used the phrase “for where we go one, we go all (WWG1WGA),” at the end of the letter. The phrase is used on message boards in the QAnon community, authorities said. QAnon conspiracy theories center around a supposed government insider who adherents believe is spooning out vital revelations using cryptic language and signs. According to Sommer, that cryptic language and game-playing is detrimental to advancing real policy goals.

“Frankly, I think if you're a Republican and you want conservative ideals to be in government, I think one of the risks of QAnon is that it focuses people on this kind of game-playing and these codes rather than actually doing political work,” said Sommer. “They [QAnon] always say, 'Trust the plan,' or 'Get some popcorn and watch,' and that just takes people out of the normal democratic process-and they think that these shadowy forces way above their control are going to handle everything.”

Furthermore, major Trump supporters, including former White House aide Sebastian Gorka and pundit Kurt Schlichter, have denounced QAnon. Social media giant Facebook said it found the QAnon activity as part of its investigations into suspected coordinated inauthentic behavior ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Sommer elaborated that QAnon diverts meaningful debate and real-world issues into futile dialogue.

“I think we can have debates about politics and policies,” said Sommer. “But when it comes down to debating, QAnon people think everyone who is opposed to them is essentially a demon or a pedophile, and I mean, that's really not the basis for a republic.”

Northeast Texas family sentenced for their roles in massive illegal gambling, money laundering enterprise

BEAUMONT, Texas – A Northeast Texas businessman, his wife and son were sentenced Friday for their roles in a massive illegal gambling and money laundering enterprise.

Larry Earnest Tillery, 70, Judy Kay Tillery, 63, and Brian Tillery, 47, all of Beaumont, Texas, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Larry Tillery was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity and tax evasion. He was further ordered to forfeit approximately $2 million in cash, jewelry, and sports memorabilia that were proceeds of his illegal gambling enterprise and to pay restitution in the amount of $1,000,040. A money judgment of $32,758,541 was also ordered by the court.

Judy Tillery was sentenced to two years of federal probation for structuring of financial transactions to evade reporting requirements. She shares the forfeiture judgment with her husband.

Brian Tillery was sentenced to two years of federal probation for engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity. He was further ordered to forfeit approximately $245,477 and a residence in Beaumont with an appraised value of approximately $600,000 that was determined to be proceeds of the illegal gambling enterprise. A money judgment of $700,000 was also ordered by the court.

All three parties pleaded guilty to their respective charges on June 25, 2019.

According to information presented in court, Larry Tillery was engaged in the business of accepting illegal wagers on sporting events from 1985 until April 2017. He owned and operated Daylight Motors, a used car dealership, and Lamar Capital, a holding company for Daylight Motors, and used both companies as a front to launder illicit proceeds from the illegal gambling enterprise.

Larry Tillery used a website to receive and track wagers from his betting clients, allowing his bettors to place wagers on sporting events, including professional and collegiate basketball, baseball, and football games. Judy assisted her husband in laundering the proceeds of his illegal gambling activities by depositing cash into her personal bank account at the Beaumont Community Credit Union and then writing checks to bank accounts controlled by her husband. Judy Tillery structured these cash deposits in amounts under $10,000 in an attempt to evade federal currency transaction reporting requirements.

Brian Tillery aided the bookmaking enterprise by collecting money from sports bettors, making payments to bettors on Larry’s behalf, tracking online wagers to keep Larry apprised of what bets were being placed, accepting illegal gambling funds and making wire transfers to pay illegal gambling debts for Larry, and mailing packages of currency derived from illegal gambling activities that were in excess of $10,000 via the United States Postal Service at the request of Larry.

Larry Tillery knew that despite the fact that he was violating Texas state and federal law, that federal tax law nonetheless required him to register as a bookmaker with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and to file monthly excise tax returns to report total wagers he accepted during the month. Larry also knew that he was required to pay gross wagering excise taxes of 2% on wagers he accepted each month, but he failed to report or pay taxes to the IRS based on the wagers he accepted each month. From September through November of 2016, Larry Tillery accepted at least 450 wagers totaling $5,060,150. These wagers are subject to the 2% federal gross wagering excise tax, and Larry evaded gross excise wagering taxes of $29,717 in September 2016, $34,423 in October 2016 and $37,063 in November 2016.

Between 2011 and 2016, Larry Tillery accepted at least $52 million in illegal wagers on sporting events and did not report these wagers to the IRS or pay gross excise taxes. The gross wagering taxes that resulted from wagers Larry Tillery accepted between 2011 and 2016 total $1,040,000.

United Borrowing $5 Billion Against Its Frequent Flyer Program

United hopes to arrange for $17 billion in liquidity to get it through the third quarter

American Airlines and Delta announced borrowing programs last week

United has been cutting costs aggressively in recent weeks but still is expected to lay off workers in October

United Airlines said Monday it would borrow $5 billion from its loyalty program as part of an effort to raise $17 billion in liquidity by the end of the third quarter. The second-largest U.S. carrier has been burning through $40 million a day as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which has gutted air travel and is likely to keep numbers down for the foreseeable future.

United (UAL), which was trading off about 2% Monday, said it also expects to receive $4.5 billion under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

The airline sector, which includes aerospace manufacturers, has been the hardest hit by the pandemic. Thousands of layoffs are expected in the fall, despite $25 billion in government loans and grants.

United has been cutting costs aggressively.

“The airline has already reduced planned capital expenditures and operating and vendor expenditures, suspended raises and implemented an unpaid time off program for management and administrative employees, put a freeze on hiring, introduced voluntary leave and separation programs, reduced pay for all executives and cut its CEO and president's base salaries by 100%, among other cost-saving measures,” United said in a press release.

United last week announced measures to allay employee and travelers’ fears, asking passengers to complete health assessments as part of the check-in process and requiring all passengers to wear face masks while on board.

The airline said cash burn was expected to slow in the third quarter to $30 million a day and borrowing against its MileagePlus program, which has more than 100 million members, would allow it to continue to operate.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 46841” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS testing. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider. E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2–8 days (3–4 days, on average) after exposure the organism. While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5-years old and older adults. It is marked by easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. Persons who experience these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

As soon as protests began in Minneapolis, the city’s troubled police department rolled out armored vehicles appearing more suited to Middle East battlefields.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is meeting Monday in Geneva for the first time in three months after COVID-19 lockdowns. The global body has prioritized the issue of alleged “systemic racism” and police brutality in the U.S. as one of their first orders of business to tackle on their first day back in session.

The decision to discuss the topic was motivated by a letter sent by a number of African leaders, including Burkina Faso diplomat Dieudonne Desire Sougouri, coordinator of the African Group, who formally requested a debate on the subject Monday, according to reports.

“The death of George Floyd is unfortunately not an isolated incident,” Dieudonne Desire Sougouri wrote in his letter to the Council, adding that “The numbers of previous cases of unarmed people of African descent who met the same fate because of uncontrolled police violence are legion.”

The U.S. left the Human Rights Council in 2018. At the time, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained the Trump administration’s justification for the move, describing that the countries on the Council “say one thing and do another.”

“In some cases, states that seek to subvert this institution’s noble aims have hijacked the very systems that are supposed to advance them,” President Trump said during his 2017 address before the U.N. General Assembly. “For example, it is a massive source of embarrassment to the United Nations that some governments with egregious human rights records sit on the U.N. Human Rights Council.”

Trump added, “The United States is one out of 193 countries in the United Nations, and yet we pay 22 percent of the entire budget and more. In fact, we pay far more than anybody realizes. The United States bears an unfair cost burden, but, to be fair, if it could actually accomplish all of its stated goals, especially the goal of peace, this investment would easily be well worth it.”

Twitter users were quick to point out US President Donald Trump’s flawed logic after he claimed during a roundtable discussion Monday that if the US stopped testing for COVID-19, there would be “very few cases, if any.”

Although the Monday commentary was not the first time Trump made such remarks regarding COVID-19 testing, it was his most recent reiteration of the notion. The questionable stance came moments after Trump held a roundtable discussion on America’s senior citizens.

“If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases, if any,” Trump is reported as saying by White House reporters present at the cabinet meeting.

Some users highlighted the ridiculousness of the president’s claim by drawing parallel statements.

“If we stopped investigating murders, there would be very few cases of murder in the United States,” one user pointed out.

“If women don't get pregnancy tests than [sic] they won't be pregnant,” another user noted.

“Okay, so the cure for cancer = stop testing,” a user wrote along with an eyeroll emoji.

Despite the fact that the US has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world, Trump has continued to praise the country’s response to the pandemic.

In early May, Trump called his administration’s response to the US outbreak “maybe [its] best work.”

“You know, I’ve built the greatest economy, and then it was turned off for good reason. We saved millions of lives by doing it. I think people are going to remember that,” he added at the time, Politico reported.

Not only were the first round of COVID-19 testing kits made in the US contaminated, which contributed to delays in widespread testing for the virus across the US, but there was also a major shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for US health care workers.

The PPE shortage ended up endangering the lives of many such workers, especially in states hit hard by the pandemic during its onset in the US, such as New York, New Jersey, California and Michigan, even though the country had months to prepare for the crisis, which first broke out in China.

In late April, the National Nurses United (NNU) held a protest in front of the White House to speak publicly about the lack of PPE during the pandemic. Earlier that month, workers took to Twitter to express their frustration over N95 mask shortages across the US with the hashtag “#GetMePPE.”

Trump: US Will Reduce Troop Presence in Germany by Half Until Berlin Covers NATO Bill

Citing Berlin's alleged delinquency "in their payments to NATO," US President Donald Trump declared on Monday that Washington will reduce its military presence in Germany by more than half.

Following a roundtable on "Fighting for America's Seniors," the US president announced that the US troop deployment in Germany would decrease to 25,000 troops, according to Reuters.

“Germany as you know is...delinquent in their payments to NATO,” Trump argued on June 15, claiming Germany owes NATO billions of dollars. "Why should we be doing what we’re doing if they don’t pay?”

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale noted that the so-called debt refers to the NATO target which urges every member to spend "2% of [its] GDP on defense."

Furthermore, the NATO target agreement has a 2024 deadline.

German Ambassador to the US Emily Haber confirmed on Monday that the Pentagon has received orders to carry out the planned reduction of US troops in Germany, according to Reuters.

This followed the issuance of a letter to Trump from 22 Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee who opposed such a move.

“The threats posed by Russia have not lessened, and we believe that signs of a weakened U.S. commitment to NATO will encourage further Russian aggression and opportunism,” Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) said in the lawmakers' open letter to the US president.

Cities are vital partners in international efforts to build social cohesion and resilience to violent extremism. Local communities and authorities are the most credible and persuasive voices to challenge violent extremism in all of its forms and manifestations in their local contexts. While many cities and local authorities are developing innovative responses to address this challenge, no systematic efforts are in place to share experiences, pool resources and build a community of cities to inspire local action on a global scale.

“The Strong Cities Network will serve as a vital tool to strengthen capacity-building and improve collaboration,” said Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch. “As we continue to counter a range of domestic and global terror threats, this innovative platform will enable cities to learn from one another, to develop best practices and to build social cohesion and community resilience here at home and around the world.”

The Strong Cities Network (SCN) – which launches September 29th at the United Nations – will empower municipal bodies to fill this gap while working with civil society and safeguarding the rights of local citizens and communities.

The SCN will strengthen strategic planning and practices to address violent extremism in all its forms by fostering collaboration among cities, municipalities and other sub-national authorities.

“To counter violent extremism we need determined action at all levels of governance,” said Governing Mayor Stian Berger Røsland of Oslo while commenting on their participation in the SCN. “To succeed, we must coordinate our efforts and cooperate across borders. The Strong Cities Network will enable cities across the globe pool our resources, knowledge and best practices together and thus leave us standing stronger in the fight against one of the greatest threats to modern society.”

The SCN will connect cities, city-level practitioners and the communities they represent through a series of workshops, trainings and sustained city partnerships. Network participants will also contribute to and benefit from an online repository of municipal-level good practices and web-based training modules and will be eligible for grants supporting innovative, local initiatives and strategies that will contribute to building social cohesion and resilience to violent extremism.

The SCN will include an International Steering Committee of approximately 25 cities and other sub-national entities from different regions that will provide the SCN with its strategic direction. The SCN will also convene an International Advisory Board, which includes representatives from relevant city-focused networks, to help ensure SCN builds upon their work. It will be run by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a leading international “think-and-do” tank with a long-standing track record of working to prevent violent extremism:

“The SCN provides a unique new opportunity to apply our collective lessons in preventing violent extremism in support of local communities and authorities around the world”, said CEO Sasha Havlicek of ISD. “We look forward to developing this international platform for joint innovation to impact this pressing challenge.”

“It is with great conviction that Montréal has agreed to join the Strong Cities Network founders,” said the Honorable Mayor Denis Coderre of Montreal. “This global network is designed to build on community-based approaches to address violent extremism, promote openness and vigilance and expand upon local initiatives like Montréal’s Mayors’ International Observatory on Living Together. I am delighted that through the Strong Cities Network, the City of Montréal will more actively share information and best practices with a global network of leaders on critical issues facing our communities.”

The Strong Cities Network will launch on Sept. 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT, following the Leaders’ Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism. Welcoming remarks will be offered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City, who will also introduce a Keynote address by U.S. Attorney General Lynch. Following this event, the Strong Cities International Steering Committee, consisting of approximately 25 mayors and other leaders from cities and other sub-national entities from around the globe, will hold its inaugural meeting on Sept. 30, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Trump calls Bolton's memoir 'highly inappropriate' as WH readies legal action to stop publication

President Trump called it “highly inappropriate” for his former national security adviser John Bolton to write a memoir about his time in the White House – saying it contained classified information and hinting that Bolton might have lied in the book.

The president’s comments, at a roundtable event at the White House on Monday, followed reports that the Trump administration was expected to take legal action to stop the publication of Bolton’s book.

“Maybe he’s not telling the truth, he’s been known not to tell the truth, a lot,” Trump said Monday.

Sources told Fox News earlier Monday that the White House is expected to make a court filing soon out of the Justice Department to try preventing the publication of Bolton’s memoir slated to be released on June 23, “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir.”

The White House has long contended that a manuscript of Bolton’s memoir contained classified information, but that the way the material was woven into the narrative would make a traditional “scrub” impossible.

Sources told Fox News the classified information was “part and parcel” of the entire storyline.

The memoir is expected to claim that Trump’s “transgressions” went well beyond the Ukraine saga that led to his impeachment and alleged that “reelection calculations” drove the president’s major decisions, according to a press release for the book.

“This is the book Donald Trump doesn’t want you to read,” the release stated.

“Drawn from his personal participation in key events, and filled with perspective and humor, Bolton covers an array of topics—chaos in the White House, sure, but also assessments of major players, the president’s inconsistent, scattershot decision-making process, and his dealings with allies and enemies alike, from China, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, Iran, the UK, France and Germany,” the book's publisher said in a statement.

Bolton’s lawyer said last week the publication of the memoir will go ahead as planned on June 23 and he accused the White House of unfairly trying to keep it on ice.

The lawyer, Charles Cooper, wrote in The Wall Street Journal that the White House lawyers have slow-walked the process because “President Trump simply doesn’t want John Bolton to publish his book.”

“This is a transparent attempt to use national security as a pretext to censor Mr. Bolton, in violation of his constitutional right to speak on matters of the utmost public import,” Cooper continued. “This attempt will not succeed, and Mr. Bolton’s book will be published June 23.”

SUMMARY: The Department of State (Department) hereby presents the Fiscal Transparency Report pursuant to Section 7031(b)(1) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2020 (Div. G, P.L. 116-94) (FY 2020 SFOAA). The report describes the minimum requirements of fiscal transparency developed, updated, and strengthened by the Department in consultation with other relevant federal agencies. It reviews governments that were originally identified in the 2014 Fiscal Transparency Report and Equatorial Guinea. It assesses those that did not meet the minimum fiscal transparency requirements and indicates whether those governments made significant progress toward meeting the requirements during the review period of January 1 – December 31, 2019. N. Korea's military threatens to reenter disarmed border areas

SEOUL, June 16 (Yonhap) - North Korea's military said Tuesday it is reviewing plans to reenter a border zone that was previously disarmed under an inter-Korean agreement.

"Our army is keeping a close watch on the current situation in which the north-south relations are turning worse and worse, and getting itself fully ready for providing a sure military guarantee to any external measures to be taken by the Party and government," the General Staff of the Korean People's Army said in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency.

The KPA is studying "an action plan for taking measures to make the army advance again into the zones that had been demilitarized under the north-south agreement, turn the front line into a fortress and further heighten the military vigilance against the south," it said.

"We will map out the military action plans for rapidly carrying out the said opinions to receive approval from the Party Central Military Commission," it added.

Thomas Jefferson Statue Torn Down at Portland High School

A statue of Thomas Jefferson, the United States’ third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, was defaced and torn down on Sunday evening outside a high school in Portland, Oregon.

Photos obtained by Oregon Live show the base of the monument was spray-painted in black with “slave owner” and “George Floyd.”

The statue, situated in front of Jefferson High School, was yanked down following a protest against police brutality organized by Rose City Justice.

At about 7:15 p.m., a crowd of more than 1,000 left the high school grounds to march to the park. By the time they returned, a statue of Thomas Jefferson had been pulled from its pedestal, apparently by a smaller group. The statue fell on its side and a dent was visible in the concrete where it fell.

Earlier in the day, the statue’s pedestal had been defaced with graffiti that, among other things, identified Jefferson as a slave owner.

“There’s an interesting piece of history up here… Mr. Thomas is all beside himself,” one protester said of the statue being toppled.

“We’re taking this city back,” the organizer added. “One school at a time. One racist statue at a time.”

Six former eBay Inc. employees have been charged with waging an extensive campaign to terrorize and intimidate the editor and publisher of an online newsletter with threats and disturbing deliveries to their home, including live spiders and cockroaches, federal authorities said Monday.

Executives were upset about the newsletter’s coverage, so their employees set out to ruin the lives of the couple who ran the website, sending a funeral wreath, bloody pig face Halloween mask and other alarming items to their home, authorities said. The employees also sent pornographic magazines with the husband’s name on it to their neighbor’s house and planned to break into the couple’s garage to install a GPS device on their car, officials said.

DOJ sets new dates to begin federal executions

The Justice Department has set new dates to begin executing federal death-row inmates following a months-long legal battle over the plan to resume the executions for the first time since 2003.

Attorney General William Barr directed the federal Bureau of Prisons to schedule the executions of four inmates convicted of killing children beginning in mid-July. Three of the men had been scheduled to be put to death when Barr announced the federal government would resume executions last year, ending an informal moratorium on federal capital punishment as the issue receded from the public domain.

Fed to begin buying corporate bonds

Move will be used to complement its previously announced ETF purchases.

The Federal Reserve announced Monday that it would begin purchasing individual corporate bonds to support liquidity in the market and to make credit more accessible among large employers.

The move is an update to its Secondary Market Corporate Credit Facility – established with approval from, and $75 billion provided by, the CARES Act, which was implemented to help aid American families and businesses throughout the coronavirus pandemic. The Fed will create a corporate bond portfolio, based on “a broad diversified market index of U.S. corporate bonds.” The bonds must satisfy the facility’s terms, including its minimum rating and a remaining maturity of five years or less. The facility has already committed to purchasing exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which began last month. This week, it is expected to start corporate purchasing debt on the secondary market.

The Fed said it would stop buying corporate bonds and ETFs no later than Sept. 30 unless otherwise stipulated by its Board of Governors or the Treasury Department.

Monday's announcement resonated with investors and sent stocks higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 both bouncing up into the green after trading down earlier in the session.

The New York Fed undertakes small value open market transactions for the purpose of testing operational readiness to implement existing and potential policy directives from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). The FOMC authorizes the New York Fed's Open Market Trading Desk (the Desk) to conduct these exercises to test its operational readiness in the Authorization for Domestic Open Market Operations and Authorization for Foreign Currency Operations.

In connection with these authorizations, the Desk intends to conduct a small value overnight repo operation to test its contingency operation infrastructure. The operation will be conducted from 9:45 AM ET to 10:00 AM ET on Wednesday, June 17th and is open to all Primary Dealers. All Primary Dealers will be limited to one $1 million proposition per tranche during the operation.

Millions mistakenly raised for Black Lives Matter group not associated with movement

Millions of dollars were mistakenly raised for a Black Lives Matter group that is not associated with the well-known movement, BuzzFeed News reported Monday.

The Black Lives Matter Foundation raised at least $4.35 million in the first weeks of June, according to BuzzFeed News estimates. The foundation is actually a Santa Clarita, Calif.-based charitable organization with one paid employee, its founder Robert Ray Barnes, a 67-year-old music producer of Los Angeles.

Barnes told BuzzFeed News that his foundation doesn't "have anything to do with the Black Lives Matter Global Network."

According to its most recent public tax filings from 2017, the foundation aims to "use our unique and creative ideas to help bring the police and the community closer together to save lives."

Berlin authorities placed children with pedophiles for 30 years

The 'Kentler Project' in West Berlin routinely placed homeless children with pedophile men, assuming they'd make ideal foster parents. A study has found the practice went on for decades.

Starting in the 1970s psychology professor Helmut Kentler conducted his "experiment." Homeless children in West Berlin were intentionally placed with pedophile men. These men would make especially loving foster parents, Kentler argued.

A study conducted by the university of Hildesheim has found that authorities in Berlin condoned this practice for almost 30 years. The pedophile foster fathers even received a regular care allowance.

Helmut Kentler (1928-2008) was in a leading position at Berlin's center for educational research. He was convinced that sexual contact between adults and children was harmless.

Berlin's child welfare offices and the governing Senate turned a blind eye or even approved of the placements.

Several years ago two of the victims came forward and told their story, since then the researchers at Hildesheim University have plowed through files and conducted interviews.

What they found was a "network across educational institutions," the state youth welfare office and the Berlin Senate, in which pedophilia was "accepted, supported, defended."

Kentler himself was in regular contact with the children and their foster fathers. He was never prosecuted: By the time his victims came forward, the statute of limitations for his actions had expired. This has also thus far prevented the victims from getting any compensation.

The researchers found that several of the foster fathers were high-profile academics. They speak of a network that included high-ranking members of the Max Planck Institute, Berlin's Free University, and the notorious Odenwald School in Hesse, West Germany, which was at the center of a major pedophilia scandal several years ago. It has since been closed down.

Berlin's senator for youth and children, Sandra Scheeres called the findings "shocking and horrifying."

A first report on the "Kentler experiment" was published in 2016 by the University of Göttingen. The researchers then stated that the Berlin Senate seemed to lack interest in finding out the truth.

Now Berlin authorities have vowed to shed light on the matter.

Good conversation - turns out that small business owners in Seattle aren't as enthusiastic about the protesting/rioting as the national news would have us think.

He said he keeps the place open for the sake of others who work there, had the cash to keep things going bc he'd set aside money for a rainy day.

I've talked to others and most are puzzled, don't understand why the rioters are trying to tear down small businesses.

Suggested to the barber that there are others behind the protesters who put them up to it. New idea for most people here. S L O W redpilling process.

But barber didn't know about 'protesters' now outside the West Police station - if BLM seizes it, then no more 911 center for the entire city. He was concerned, like any sensible person.

Would be very bad if that happens, but might be bad enough to wake up big numbers - that's what is needed.

Small business owners are the exceptions not the rule.

NYPD Eliminates Entire Plainclothes Anti-Crime Unit In 'Seismic Cultural Shift'

If you want to be a criminal right now, NYC is the place.

After City Hall moved to strip $1 billion from the NYPD budget in the coming years, Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced Monday afternoon what he described as "a seismic shift in the culture of how the NYPD polices this city." To wit, the largest police force in the country will eliminate its plainclothes anti-crime unit.

No officers will be fired due to the decision; rather, they will be transferred to detective units, or new 'neighborhood policing' units that will focus on the community policing model that some less-radical progressives who favor reform over police abolition have advocated. Shea said the unit is being shuttered because its officers are more likely to shoot suspects, whether armed or unarmed, according to a local TV station.

The decision is a consequence of the two weeks of unrest that followed the murder of George Floyd, while the killing of a black man in Atlanta Friday night by an APD officer has triggered major disruptions in the department, including prompting the resignation of the police commissioner in that city.

Across NYC, the NYPD often has plainclothes officers stationed in park cars around known hot spots - typically low-income neighborhoods where hard drugs are bought and sold, or where gang-related violence is more common. While it's not clear exactly what this unit was responsible for, the connotation is that the department will be pulling hundreds of cops off the street.

Notably, the NYPD decision comes just a day ahead of a White House press conference where President Trump is supposed to outline the administration's policing reform plan, which might be more comprehensive than critics expect.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is gearing up for a discussion about police brutality and racism in America. According to reports Monday, the conversation will take place Wednesday following a request from from more than 50 African nations.

The announcement came along with a statement signed by the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, who called on the United Nations to “dismantle racist institutions.”

“We got a request from the African group to have an urgent debate in the follow up to what happened in America with George Floyd and the whole tragedy, which showed the problem of racism, of police violence and the follow up to that,” said Elisabeth Tichy Fisslberger, President of the UN Human Rights Council.

EU threatens to blackmail illiberal countries’ budgets

Manfred Weber, the Leader of the European People’s Party (EPP), discussed the European Union’s plan to blackmail member states that don’t toe the bloc’s line on issues like migration, such as Hungary and Poland. This will be done by making their share of the EU’s budget contingent on how well they meet the bloc’s vague “rule of law” standards, Weber says, especially now that many countries have been hit hard by the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

Weber, who leads the European Parliament’s largest party, made the remarks in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung last week.

The EU is currently in talks to prepare its next seven-year budget, which will come into effect in 2021. Weber discussed the proposal by Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission’s President, to make the allocation of each member state’s share of the budget, as well as its share of aid to deal with the effects of the pandemic, contingent on the “state of the rule of law” in each country.

This threat is clearly aimed at Hungary and Poland in particular, the two EU member states that have taken a hard line on illegal migration and which have also come under fire for alleged corruption in their judiciaries. The EU has invoked Article 7 of its Treaty against both countries in recent years, which can result in a suspension of a member states’ rights within the bloc. Both are still being investigated under the procedure.

Weber suggested that the EU needs to strengthen its control over its budget “in order to better fight corruption.” He said that given that many member states will be using EU funds to deal with the economic fallout from the pandemic, it is important that “strict conditions” must be attached to such aid.

Weber mentioned Hungary and Poland specifically, saying that it is “unsurprising” that the two countries are looking to prevent the “rule of law” requirement from being attached to the money. “Europe is not an ATM, but a community of values,” he said.

On Friday, the EU and the heads of the member states will begin discussing the 1.8 trillion euro budget for 2021-2027 for the first time: 1.1 trillion for the budget and 750 billion euros in aid to deal with the economic crisis resulting from the pandemic. Whether the pandemic aid will be distributed in the form of loans or in bonds is still being hotly contested. Weber’s EPP will play a crucial role in these negotiations.

The EPP has made its displeasure with Hungary in particular known on several occasions. The EPP’s current President, Donald Tusk, called for Hungary to be expelled from the party in March due to concern over the country’s controversial Coronavirus Protection Law, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

Amazon says CEO Bezos willing to testify before U.S. Congress

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Amazon Inc said on Monday its founder and Chief Executive Jeff Bezos was willing to testify to a congressional panel investigating potential violations of U.S. antitrust law by big technology companies.

The company’s attorney sent a letter to members of the House Judiciary Committee, saying Amazon had cooperated with the probe. “This includes making Jeff Bezos available to testify at a hearing with the other CEOs this summer,” said the letter from Robert Kelner of Covington and Burling LLP.

The big four tech platforms - Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google, Apple Inc (AAPL.O), Amazon and Facebook Inc (FB.O) - are under investigation by a House Judiciary Committee panel and the U.S. Justice Department. The Federal Trade Commission is probing Facebook and Amazon and U.S. state attorneys general are looking at Facebook and Google.

Representative David Cicilline, chair of the committee’s antitrust panel, said testimony from the CEOs was “essential to complete this bipartisan investigation into the state of competition in the digital marketplace.”

“The Antitrust Subcommittee will continue to use the tools at our disposal to ensure we gather whatever information is necessary,” he said in a statement.

Kelner’s letter said that Amazon and the committee would need to “resolve a number of questions regarding timing, format, and outstanding document production issues, all necessarily framed by the extraordinary demands of the global pandemic.”

This would be the first time that Bezos has appeared before Congress, according to a source familiar with the company.

In early May, the committee demanded Bezos’ testimony in the wake of a report that the online retailer uses data from third-party sellers to create competing products. Amazon’s associate general counsel, Nate Sutton, had denied under oath last July that Amazon used sensitive information from independent sellers to develop Amazon products.

The letter also noted that Amazon had given the committee’s antitrust panel more than 225,000 pages of documents and notes that the committee has not given a “binding commitment” that they would be confidential.

A new documentary exploring the death of convicted sex abuser and financier Jeffrey Epstein is set to air this weekend.

Epstein was found unresponsive in his prison cell on August 10 last year and later died. He was awaiting trial on trafficking charges. A coroner ruled the death a suicide.

But some people have argued that the circumstances of his passing were suspicious - and have drawn attention to Epstein's links with numerous high-profile figures including Bill and Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew.

Others have rubbished claims of foul play.

Bill Mersey, a prison counsellor to Epstein at the time of his death, said: "There's no way somebody got in there and killed him. Do you know how many people you'd have to pay off to get in there and kill him? There's just no way.

"To all the conspiracy theorists out there about Jeffrey Epstein's suicide vs murder, this is what I say: you're the same guys who think that the moon landing was fake. Don't be ridiculous. Get over it, he killed himself. There's no question about it in my mind. Case closed for me."

The documentary, which will be broadcast on Quest Red in the UK this Saturday, explores the different claims around Epstein's death.

The programme also contains an allegation that Epstein changed his will late in his life, as a final "f-you" to his victims in order to delay any payouts.

Journalist Thomas Volscho said: "Epstein, 48 hours prior to him killing himself, if that's what happened, refiles and changes his will to be collapsed into a trust in the Virgin Islands."

New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, recently announced that he will personally fund the creation of four charter schools in New York City. The announcement was welcomed by New York financier and education philanthropist, Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein, a long-time supporter of Bloomberg, has financed numerous charter schools across the country including the Maya Angelou schools in Washington DC, the highly acclaimed Bard High School Early College in New York City and the Harlem Link Charter School.

Bloomberg's funding will come through his foundation, the Young Men's Initiative, which is also funded by George Soros' Open Society Foundations. U.S., China to each allow four weekly flights for airlines; Delta to fly next week

The United States and China will each allow four weekly flights between the two countries, the U.S. Transportation Department said on Monday, easing a standoff on travel restrictions in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Following the Chinese government approval, Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) said it would resume passenger flights to Shanghai from Seattle next week via Seoul, and once weekly flights from Seattle and Detroit beginning in July. In a statement, the Transportation Department said it will continue to press for the full restoration of passenger air travel between the United States and China, in part to allow for the repatriation of Chinese students who have been unable to fly home because of the shortage of flights.

“As the Chinese government allows more flights by U.S. carriers, we will reciprocate,” it said. A person briefed on the matter said Chinese authorities have agreed to some changes on requirements for U.S. carriers flying there, including allowing temperature checks to be done before flights take off for China, rather than mid-flight as previously discussed.

United Airlines (UAL.O) had also asked for approval to resume flights to China in June.

While Epstein’s accusers and the government can file claims against the estate, the only person who can challenge the validity of the will is the financier’s only relation: Mark Epstein.

“Mark could come forward and say, ‘This is not a valid will, it was executed when he was not of right mind.’ There [could] be multiple possible grounds for doing so—fraud, undue influence, duress for example,” Crawford said.

“That would be a way Mark could overturn the will and take the entire estate.”

Crawford said Epstein’s final wishes will take several years to sort out. Creditors and tax collectors could come forward, seeking to secure assets from the trust. Parties in the trust could challenge it.

And the feds that were prosecuting Epstein could bring a legal action to freeze the estate, too. “That’s why the executors are not paying anybody any money anytime soon,” Crawford said.

Now that the will has been filed, creditors will get notice of probate, “and that will be anyone who is a known creditor of Mr. Epstein’s, including the U.S. government most likely,” Crawford added. “I expect the court to be inundated with claims against the estate. This thing’s going to go on for years.”

In the will, Epstein detailed the companies that hold the titles to his properties in New Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Florida and New York.

He listed 10,000 shares of Maple, Inc.—the Virgin Islands corporation that holds the title to his Manhattan townhouse—as worth $55.9 million.

Another 10,000 shares of Cypress, Inc., which owns his New Mexico ranch, are worth $17.2 million. His Palm Beach mansion, owned through 10,000 shares of Laurel Inc., is worth more than $12.3 million.

SCI JEP, a French company, holds the title to Epstein's seven units at the posh Paris building at 22 Avenue Foch. The document lists 999 shares worth $8.67 million.

Finally, the document details the companies that own his private islands.

The will includes 10,000 shares each of Poplar, Inc., which holds the title to Great St. James Island and is worth more than $22.49 million, and Nautilus, Inc., which owns the $63.87-million Little St. James Island.

The document directs lawyers Indyke and Kahn to get $250,000 upon the completion of probate. In Aug. 15 court filings, Indyke and Kahn accepted their appointments and enlisted Virgin Islands law firm Kellerhals Ferguson Kroblin PLLC as their attorneys.

Erika Kellerhals, another loyal Epstein lawyer who was named in tax documents for his charities, is a partner of the firm.

Olympia mayor who supported Black Lives Matter calls protest vandalism at her home 'domestic terrorism'

Businesses were also vandalized by the group of rioters

The mayor of Olympia, Washington, expressed support for the Black Lives Matter cause, but when her own home was vandalized she called it similar to "domestic terrorism."

Mayor Cheryl Selby made the comments after her home was vandalized on Friday with Black Lives Matter graffiti despite her already displaying support for the movement.

"I'm really trying to process this," the mayor said Saturday to The Olympian. "It's like domestic terrorism. It's unfair."

The vandalism was a part of a protest that turned to rioting in downtown Olympia. Businesses were vandalized with spray paint, flags were burned and windows were smashed. Then they marched into Selby's neighborhood.

Surveillance video shows one black-clad rioter, who appears to be white, spray painting "BLM," "racist," and "abolish" on her home.

"It hurts when you're giving so much to your community," she said.

Selby and her family were not home, but her neighbors began texting her when the protesters arrived at her house.

Selby, who is white, had previously issued a statement in support of peaceful protests that criticized police for the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

"Every day since his murder, our country has shaken. Convulsing between fear, rage, and nausea. We should feel sick. Those of us who hold the most microphones in our communities should feel nauseous," she said.

"Let me be clear," she concluded, "the city of Olympia supports the peaceful protests that highlight the racial injustices black people continue to endure at the hands of police in the United States."

Brexit leader Nigel Farage has spoken to Breitbart about the “Marxist, Anarchic” threat to free speech and free thought in the United Kingdom, saying that fear is “dominating absolutely everything”.

Mr Farage made the remarks to Alex Marlow on the Breitbart News Daily Show on Sirius XM Patriot on Monday, when he was asked about his recent break with Global Radio’s LBC, where until last week he had a daily political talk show.

While Mr Farage declined to comment on the specifics of the change, a position of silence has has taken since the surprise announcement on Thursday, he did offer his thoughts on the broader move to suppress freedom of thought and speech in the United Kingdom, implying those developments may have had something to do with his ouster.

Making clear present developments were historic in scale, the Brexit leader told Marlow and the Breitbart News Daily audience that: “It seems that the real threat we face now is a genuine threat to free speech. I have never known a time when, in the United Kingdom — which is famed for its huge breadth of media commentary and views — I have never seen so many people so scared to write and say and speak and broadcast what they think. It really is very disturbing.”

Mr Farage explained that while it was clear the simple and face-value idea that black lives matter was unarguable and widely supported, the organisation that calls itself Black Lives Matter hid a radical agenda behind its agreeable sounding name, but used the title to accuse anyone who dared disagree with its hard-left views of being racist. He continued: “the truth of it, of course, is that Black Lives Matters the organisation is open Marxist, Anarchic, wants to abolish our police forces, and is doing its best culturally to literally destroy and erase every piece of symbolism of our long and complex history.

“We’re at a point where if you criticise ‘Black Lives Matter’ the accusation is you don’t support equality and you think there should be a huge racial divide. And that is where we are. I am just not somebody who is prepared to go along with that, and I won’t support mob rule.”

On how the woke-left police the new orthodoxy of thought, Farage said “Fear is what dominating absolutely everything”, pointing out political activists would vilify dissenters online, in the street, and agitate against businesses to deprive funding. President Donald Trump indicated Monday that his administration was ready to move if the ongoing situation in Seattle warranted outside intervention.

An area spanning some seven city blocks — including residential property and small businesses which were coopted without consent — was fenced off and at first renamed the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ). It has since apparently been renamed the Capitol Hill Ongoing Protest (CHOP). Police have been forced to abandon the precinct inside the zone and no moves have been made by city or state officials to put and end to the protest.

President Donald Trump took aim at officials, Democratic Mayor Jenny Durkan and Democratic Governor Jay Inslee in particular, over what he sees as a failure to lead and to protect their citizens.

Fox News White House correspondent noted that Trump had promised action previously if the mayor and the governor did not do something. “Are you considering taking action?” he asked.

Just imagine for a second that you're the treasurer or CFO of a mid-sized corporation, and your looking for somewhere to park money where you can earn a decent return without taking too much risk. One of the Credit Suisse corporate bankers comes to you one day with an idea. They call it "supply-chain financing".

The new strategy is essentially just another tool to help companies more "flexibility" in managing their short-term financing needs. It's a fool-proof idea, the banker explains, because even if the companies default, there are all kinds of insurance policies and other safeguards in place to help make the lenders whole. So you invest. A few years later, your banker calls with some bad news. Four of the 10 companies to which the fund was most heavily exposed imploded, and are likely headed for liquidation. It could be years before the lenders are made whole - if ever - and you and your fellow unlucky investors are simply along for the ride, but you can probably kiss that money goodbye. Several months later, you open the FT, only to discover that many of the other investors in the fund, as well as the advisor managing the fund, were all financially linked to the companies in which the fund was investing. The circular flow of money from the funds to the companies' suppliers means that, for these other investors, any losses stemming from loan defaults have already been offset, since they're basically paying themselves...with your money.

Well, that appears to be what happened to some investors who weren't too happy when they found out that several Credit Suisse 'supply chain finance' funds were essentially part of an elaborate shell game orchestrated by SoftBank to help inflate the value of Vision Fund portfolio companies by making them look more financially healthy than they actually were.

SoftBank effectively used these Credit Suisse funds - which were administered by Greensill Capital, an investment firm that, bizarrely, received a $1.5 billion slug of cash from VF. Aside from being run by an Aussie "paper billionaire" and advised by former Tory PM David Cameron, it's not clear exactly what Greensill is supposed to be doing with all that money. But the company has managed to find itself enmeshed in all sorts of skullduggery uncovered by the intrepid reporters at the FT. Four of the CS's supply chain finance funds' top investments were tied to Vision Fund portfolio companies. investors (well, the investors who aren't SoftBank) have pulled $1.5 billion from the Greensill-managed Credit Suisse funds as several of Greensill's investments went sideways. Another interesting thing about Greensill: former British PM David Cameron is a paid advisor.

But now, the firm has hit upon a new strategy that just might revive the sagging fortunes of the SoftBank-backed lender.

'Clients have withdrawn more than $1.5bn from these supply-chain finance funds this year, after a string of Greensill Capital’s clients defaulted on their debts in high-profile corporate collapses and accounting scandals, such as former FTSE 100 company NMC Health. Credit Suisse has told investors that a group of insurers and Greensill itself are covering losses in the funds. Australian financier Lex Greensill founded the company in 2011 and cemented his status as a paper billionaire last year when SoftBank’s Vision Fund invested $1.5bn into his eponymous firm. Greensill Capital specialises in supply-chain finance, where businesses borrow money to pay their suppliers. This week the British Business Bank approved Greensill to provide so-called “invoice finance” through the UK’s Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan scheme. “Making sure capital reaches the real economy, where it is needed most, is integral to Britain’s broader economic recovery,” Mr Greensill said of the decision.

There's nothing like extracting rents from government capital intended for the "real economy" to help keep a small, politically connected lender afloat.

Why FBI Relied on Crowdstrike Examination of DNC Server after Alleged Russian Hack

“The FBI never requested access to the DNC’s computer servers,” wrote DNC deputy communications director Eric Walker. According to an unnamed intelligence official, no U.S. intelligence agency ever did its own forensic analysis on the hacked servers. FBI and Homeland Security relied on analysis by third-party security firm CrowdStrike, which investigated the breach for the DNC. [1]

Even that narrative is questionable. “[Former] FBI Director James Comey and [former] Homeland Security chief Jeh Johnson both testified to Congress about the DNC’s reluctance to cooperate in a case the Democrats nonetheless relentlessly hyped as tantamount to an act of war.” A week before Comey’s testimony, the DNC even blamed the FBI for having never requested access. Yet an unnamed senior FBI official contradicted the DNC the very next day, telling The Hill that “The FBI repeatedly stressed to DNC officials the necessity of obtaining direct access to servers and data, only to be rebuffed... This left the FBI no choice but to rely upon a third party for information.” [2]

In hindsight, isn’t it obvious that the whole procedure was highly irregular, especially in light of the extreme sensitivity of the “Russian election interference” allegation? Who directed the FBI to disregard procedure and not insist on doing a proper forensic exam of the DNC server—especially if the alleged “Russian hacking” was going to serve as a pretext to derail Donald Trump’s legitimate presidency?

The hacking of the DNC server is what initiated the entire Trump/Russia hoax. How can we trust the DNC or Obama administration officials—contradicting each other’s statements—on such a significant matter? Let's review the events. [4]

In testimony to the House Intelligence Committee, the DNC IT Director, Yared Tamene Wolde-Yohannes, stated that in September 2015, a [name-redacted] FBI agent first alerted him to potential nefarious activity on the DNC network. [6, p.7] However the DNC technology team could not detect the nefarious activity. That FBI agent contacted the DNC numerous times between then and December 2015 to report continued signs of suspicious activity. The agent said his information came from other operatives in the Intelligence Community. [6, p.12]

The FBI eventually asked the DNC for 15 GB of metadata from the DNC servers, which was to be turned over on 4/29/16. [6, p.24] But on 4/28/16, the DNC’s information technology team discovered a cyberattack on their servers.

On 5/1/16 the DNC, through their law firm Perkins-Coie, hired CrowdStrike, a private contractor, to examine the server. From that time onward, CrowdStrike took over all communications with the FBI on behalf of the DNC. [6, p.32]

In response to questioning over Seth Rich, Tamene stated that the DNC found no unusual or unauthorized access by DNC personnel, but admitted that CrowdStrike was involved in the process of analysis [6, p.35] (Under contract to the DNC, did Crowdstrike in effect serve as a paid advocate to exonerate DNC personnel or advance a predetermined outcome?)

Predictably, CrowdStrike concluded that the Russians were responsible.

In mid-June, WikiLeaks announced they were in possession of emails damaging to Clinton. They did not say how they obtained the emails, but denied that Russia provided them.

In a perplexing “coincidence”, Shawn Henry admitted that Crowdstrike had provided some “intelligence services to the FBI as part of a contract” in the past. [5, - p.74]. A search for CrowdStrike’s government contracts reveals a contract with the FBI from 7/8/2015 to 7/7/2016. [7] So while remediating the DNC network and advocating for the DNC in contacts with the FBI, CrowdStrike simultaneously had a contract with the FBI. The period

when the FBI agent originally advised Director Tamene of ‘potential nefarious activity’ on the DNC network was concurrent with CrowdStrike providing intelligence to the FBI. Which unnamed Intelligence Community source was notifying the FBI agent of nefarious activity on the DNC servers—could it have been CrowdStrike itself? Shouldn't the [name-redacted] FBI Agent be called to testify?

In a further “coincidence”, IT Director Tamene’s legal counsel for the House Intelligence Committee testimony was Marc Elias of Perkins-Coie—the same law firm that technically hired CrowdStrike to work for the DNC. (Doesn't Perkins-Coie's representation of the DNC and CrowdStrike appear to be a conflict of interest?) But back to the timeline...

The DNC refused to allow the FBI or Homeland Security anywhere near their server. In violation of every investigative norm, the FBI accepted CrowdStrike’s unverified redacted report, and passed it on to Mueller’s special counsel. In fact, the FBI never even saw the full report, but used it as a primary source to blame Russia anyway! [3]

The New York Times wrote an article supporting the DNC version of the story. Then Comey’s FBI leaked information to bolster this narrative, and the Times ran a second story. The DNC version of events got repeated so frequently and passionately that it became accepted as true.

In this way, through the knowing collusion of many individuals, criticism regarding the content of Hillary's emails was deflected, and the seeds were sown for a false narrative that Russians wanted to bolster Trump’s election changes.

In recent days, multiple former military officers spoke out against Donald Trump and demanded he be removed from office.

Retired Admiral William McRaven, Retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey, Retired Marine General John Allen, and former Secretary of Defense James Mattis also publicly attacked the President and shattered the American norm that the military stayed out of domestic politics.

Fox News reporter Lara Logan said these former Generals and Admirals were waging coordinated information warfare against President Trump.

Logan cited Allen specifically for ties to the left-wing Brookings Institute.

“He’s head of a think tank now that is constantly taking shots and waging information warfare against the president for the election, and you can map it out. New America is one of the organizations, the Lincoln Project — that’s a whole bunch of Republicans who are running attack ads and pushing out a constant, constant stream of anti-Trump propaganda,” she said.

Logan also claimed the other former military commanders were connected to the McChrystal group which is linked to a Democrat SuperPAC.

“And all of these people, and many of them connected with the McChrystal Group and Gen. Stanley McChrystal — who has made no secret of the fact that he’s partnered with an organization called Defeat Disinfo, which is a Democratic SuperPAC, and they want you to think they are defeating disinformation, but actually what they’re doing is propagating it, and they don’t even hide it,” Logan added.

In the interview, Logan delivered one final warning.

Logan explained that these former military officers waging information warfare against the President would not leave the election results to chance.

“What [intelligence sources] see is an information warfare campaign that is designed to set the stage to ensure that the election delivers the results that they want, if they wait that long . . . what they’re doing is creating the problem, civil unrest, civil disturbance, in which they can be the solution,” Logan concluded.

Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoyin Salau, who told black protesters to remember that “white racists” are their enemy was found dead in Tallahassee this week, and police have a black man in custody in possible connection to her murder.

She had recently reported on Twitter that she had been sexually assaulted by two different black men, before going missing amidst ongoing Black Lives Matter protests in Florida, then was found dead in Tallahassee this week. Police have a black man, a 59 year old career felon, in custody in possible connection to her murder (and the murder of another woman, 75-year-old Vicki Sims.)

Video footage from BLM protests shows Salau gave a speech in which she says, "Imma die by my fking skin. You cannot take my fking blackness away from me. My blackness is not for your fking consumption, n*gga.”

Salau was also vocal about her opinions on on social media, tweeting about topics such as "inbred white people". In one tweet a few years ago she posted the statement ‘White people is hypocrites they’re barbaric. White lives do not matter'

"At this point HCQ and chloroquine are just like any other approved drug in the United States. HCQ and CQ may be used in hospitals, they may be used in out-patients, they may be used at home, all subject to a doctor's prescription."

What's the study Dr. Smith tried to talk about (but got cut off due to lack to time? Why were the doses so low (much lower than those typically used for other HCQ treatements)?

54 NIH scientists lose positions during investigation into foreign financial ties

93% of the undisclosed foreign funding was from China.

A probe at the National Institutes of Health has led to the firings and resignations of 54 scientists after they failed to disclose foreign ties while registering for grants. The leading health agency opened investigations into nearly 200 scientists with unreported foreign ties; 93% of the undisclosed funding came from China. The NIH has, so far, removed 77 grant recipients from its databases. The investigation was a result of the NIH's effort to weed out foreign entities targeting researchers at the institutes to steal intellectual property and protected information. The U.S. government has been engaged in a an active campaign to thwart the Chinese Communist Party's infiltration of American academic circles since November 2018. During the investigation, it was revealed that 143 scientists, across 27 states, held grants worth $164 million in undisclosed funding. More than 80% of the scientists were Asian, which reflects the CCP's active targeting of Chinese researchers.

The CCP has recruited several high-profile American professors as part of its Thousand Talents Program, which the U.S. government views as an operation whose primary goal is to obtain U.S. intellectual property. Recently, Harvard professor Charles Lieber was indicted for lying to federal authorities about his participation in the Thousand Talents Program.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct air defense exercise Falcon Virgo on Tuesday, June 16, between 12:30-2:30 a.m. Eastern Time in the National Capital Region.

Justice Department schedules first federal executions since 2003 for convicted child murderers

Attorney General William Barr directed the Bureau of Prisons to schedule the executions of four federal death row inmates convicted of murdering children. Barr, who last summer announced new guidelines for resuming capital punishment under federal law following a hiatus stemming back to 2003, said Monday that the four convicted child murderers — two of whom had also raped their victims — will receive the death penalty in July and August. They will be the first federal executions in nearly two decades. “The American people, acting through Congress and Presidents of both political parties, have long instructed that defendants convicted of the most heinous crimes should be subject to a sentence of death,” Barr said in a press release. “The four murderers whose executions are scheduled today have received full and fair proceedings under our Constitution and laws. We owe it to the victims of these horrific crimes, and to the families left behind, to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”

The four death-sentenced inmates are Daniel Lee, Wesley Purkey, Dustin Honken, and Keith Nelson. Lee, 47, was a member of a white supremacist group who murdered a family of three, including an 8-year-old girl, according to the Justice Department. He robbed and shot the family, covered and sealed their heads with plastic bags, weighed them down with rocks, and threw them into a bayou. He was convicted by an Arkansas jury in 1999 and is now scheduled to be executed on July 13. Purkey, 68, raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl before dismembering and burning her body and dumping it in a septic pond, the Justice Department said. He also used a claw hammer to beat an 80-year-old woman to death. He was found guilty by a Missouri jury in 2003 and is scheduled to be put to death on July 15. Honken, 52, shot and killed five people — a single mother, her 10-year-old and 6-year-old daughters, and two men who planned to testify against him, the Justice Department said. He was convicted by an Iowa jury in 2004, and his execution date is now July 17. Nelson kidnapped a 10-year-old girl who was rollerblading in front of her house, raped her, and then strangled her to death with a wire in the forest behind a church, according to the Justice Department. He pleaded guilty before a Missouri court in 2001, and his death penalty date has been set for Aug. 28.

The Justice Department said, “Each of these inmates has exhausted appellate and post-conviction remedies, and no legal impediments prevent their executions.” The four executions are set to take place at the high-security prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, and “additional executions will be scheduled at a later date.” The executions could have some bearing on the 2020 presidential contest. Former Vice President Joe Biden, now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, changed his position on the death penalty after Barr’s announcement last summer, calling for its abolition despite having been among the Senate’s most vocal supporters, even bragging that in one of his proposals “we do everything but hang people for jaywalking.” Biden officially reversed his decades long position last summer during the Democratic primary while under pressure from his progressive base and his rivals, releasing a criminal justice reform plan repudiating his signature 1994 crime bill and calling for the “elimination” of the death penalty nationwide. Biden introduced a crime bill in March 1991, proposing 44 crimes punishable by death. When Republicans introduced their own version a day later, increasing that number to 46, Biden went beyond President George H.W. Bush’s supporters that June by raising it to 51. When Biden’s crime bill finally passed that year, it created 60 new death penalty offenses.

Barr announced nearly a year ago that the Federal Bureau of Prisons had adopted an addendum to federal protocol that cleared the way for the United States to resume capital punishment.

Three New York Police Detectives Poisoned at a Shake Shack in Manhattan

Three New York City police detectives were poisoned tonight at a Shake Shack at 200 Broadway in Manhattan.

The left is killing our police officers.

The officers were hospitalized after drinking the beverages from a Shake Shack near Broadway and Fulton on Monday and are expected to recover, PBA President Pat Lynch said.

“All PBA members are advised to carefully inspect any prepared food item they purchase while on duty for possible contamination,” Lynch said. “Whenever possible, take meals in groups of two or more, and remain vigilant for the duration of the meal period.”

The substance in the drinks is believed to be bleach, Lynch said.

The Detectives’ Endowment Association tweeted that the officers were “intentionally poisoned.”

The director-general of the World Health Organization is scheduled to give a commencement speech to students at the elite Tsinghua University in Beijing, amid accusations from the United States that he is biased towards China.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will deliver an online speech to Tsinghua’s School of Economics and Management on June 21, according to a notice from the university.

U.S. President Donald Trump said in May the United States was ending its relationship with the WHO over the body’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, accusing the U.N. agency of becoming a puppet of China.

Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant (District 3, Central Seattle), chair of the Council’s Sustainability and Renters Rights Committee, issued this statement today after Seattle City Council unanimously adopted two ordinances she sponsored – banning police use of chemical weapons and other so-called “crowd control” devices and banning the police use of chokeholds:

“Our movement against racism and police violence made history today with the City Council’s passage of the permanent bans on the police use of chemical weapons and other so-called ‘crowd control’ weapons, and on police chokeholds.

“Today, Seattle becomes the first US city to take these violent weapons out of the hands of police. But let’s be clear: Our victory today was not a result of of enlightenment by the political establishment, but because of the thousands of ordinary people – led by young people, especially young people of color – who have marched in the streets (facing down horrific police violence), organized, spoken up at City Council meetings, and fought for systemic change.

“Our mass protest movement deserves all the credit for winning Seattle’s historic ban on chemical weapons and chokeholds. If in the last few weeks you marched, rallied, organized, testified, or otherwise fought for Black Lives Matter and against police violence, then today’s victory is your victory.

“Our movement had to overcome significant resistance from the political establishment, who even during today’s debate were trying to water down the legislation, add in a huge loophole, or delay passage of the legislation.

“For many years, Seattle residents, especially from Black and brown communities, have been painfully aware of the systemic police violence in our city. Today’s movement victory is historic, but it’s only a start. It won’t stop police from terrorizing our communities, young people, and peaceful protesters. We have to move forward from today to build our movement to defund the Seattle Police Department, to end police violence and brutality, and to fully demilitarize the police.

“This year, the Seattle Police Department budget is a staggering $409 million – fully 27 percent of the city’s discretionary spending. I was the only councilmember last fall to vote against this appalling budget decision. My office has begun discussions with community activists, organizers, affordable housing developers, young Black and brown leaders, clergy, and others around cutting the police budget by at least 50 percent. In the next two weeks, my office will be fighting alongside the movement to bring forward our legislation to defund the police by at least 50 percent.”

On Monday June 1, 2020, four police officers were shot in St. Louis City.

The far left rioters threw gas on police.

The 7-11 downtown was looted and torched.

Across town retired Police Captain David Dorn was shot dead while protecting a pawnshop.

The looters shot Dorn and he bled out while being filmed on Facebook live.

The killers understood no police would be coming.

The video of the shootout between street thugs and police was later posted on YouTube.

This was like something out of Afghanistan except that it was St. Louis City not far from downtown St. Louis.

Since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis over 431 police officers have been injured or killed in far left riots.

…These are partial and incomplete numbers. If the riots continue, those numbers will keep on rising. And these are not mere numbers. They represent husbands and fathers, mothers and daughters, who will spend time in the hospital, who will relive the trauma, and who may never be the same again. Even those who go home with minor injuries may lose some functionality. Head injuries can especially lead to troubling consequences down the road. And while we count the cost, the war continues.

These 431 men and women put their bodies on the line to protect all of us. And they paid the price.

When over 400 law enforcement officers are wounded, that’s not the aftermath of protests or even riots. That’s a war. And it’s about time that we started calling the violent leftist mobs burning and looting their way from one end of the country to the other by their rightful name. The enemy.

On Tuesday, PG&E Corp. will plead guilty 84 separate times to involuntary manslaughter the deadliest corporate crime in U.S. history. That admission in a California courtroom will mark the end of one portion of the power company’s legal travails after its equipment sparked the largest wildfire in state history, consuming the town of Paradise. Many who lost loved ones or homes to the 2018 conflagration may not find much comfort in the utility paying a $4 million fine. But for some, a small measure of justice will come from witnessing PG&E’s comeuppance in court. “It doesn’t bring my daughter back that’s the bottom line,” said Tom LeBlanc, whose stepdaughter, Kimberly Wehr, 53 years old and disabled, was killed at her home in the Camp Fire on Nov. 8, 2018. At the same time, Leblanc said in an interview, PG&E’s plea “means something because they’re admitting the guilt.”

The plea is unparalleled for a publicly traded company. Over a period of about 40 years that prosecutors in the U.S. have tried to charge companies for killing people mostly without success the closest comparison is BP Plc’s manslaughter plea after 11 workers were killed in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion. “This was extraordinarily difficult for PG&E to swallow,” Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, who investigated the fire and negotiated the plea, said in an interview. For the company it amounts to conceding that “the evidence will show beyond a reasonable doubt that we killed 84 people and burned down a town by a criminally reckless fire,” he said. The utility already has agreed to settle claims from insurers, individual fire victims and local government agencies for more than $25 billion. And yet, as fire season returns, trepidation runs as far and wide as PG&E’s 125,000 miles (200,000 kilometers) of electrical grid about whether it has been sufficiently punished, and reformed, to prevent it from causing another deadly blaze. The plea agreement has been roundly criticized on social media and by a former victim representative in the company’s bankruptcy case, Karen Gowins, as barely a slap on the wrist.

Third Suspect Arrested in Connection to Murder of Retired Police Captain David Dorn at Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry

Retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn was murdered on Monday night June 1, 2020, outside of Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry in North St. Louis City.

The looters then broke in the store and looted it as dozens of cars drove by on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

David Dorn was 77-years-old when he was gunned down by looters.

He lay outside the store bleeding as his death was captured on Facebook Live.

On the following Friday St. Louis Police released photos of persons of interest in the murder of Ret. Capt. David Dorn.

The St. Louis police released these images on Friday afternoon.

On Sunday June 7th the St. Louis Police arrested and charged 24-year-old Stephan Cannon with first-degree murder for the death of retired Police Captain David Dorn.

Officials said 24-year-old Stephan Cannon was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Dorn. The shooting happened at Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry on June 2 after a night of looting and violent rioting in St. Louis City.

Police said Dorn was found shot multiple times.

“[Dorn] was murdered by looters at a pawnshop. He was the type of brother that would’ve given his life to save them if he had to. Violence is not the answer, whether it’s a citizen or officer,” the Ethical Society of Police of St. Louis wrote after the murder.

Cannon was also charged with robbery, burglary, armed criminal action and felon in possession of a firearm.

Police said Cannon admitted he cut his hair to change his appearance after seeing surveillance video released by police.

On Monday June 15, the St. Louis Police Department announced a third suspect was arrested in the Dorn case. Mark Jackson was charged with one count of Murder 2nd Degree, one Robbery 1st Degree, one Burglary 1st Degree, one Stealing Over $750, and three counts of Armed Criminal Action.

June 15, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Spain has lost nearly 2.4 million babies to abortion in 33 years, since the killing of the unborn became legal there in 1985 — the equivalent of the population of twelve rural provinces in a country with fewer than 48 million inhabitants. More than one third of these abortions took place over the years from 2011 until 2018, as abortion rates kept rising, reaching over 100,000 every year.

The Spanish statistics on abortion, as released this Monday by the “Instituto de Politica Familiar” — the IPF, a pro-family movement that has special consulting status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council — show the sheer size of the tragedy faced by Spain, where the birthrate has plummeted to 1.26 children per woman of childbearing age.

That is way below the minimum rate for replacement of generations in developed countries: 2.1 children per woman of childbearing age. Had the 2.4 million pregnancies that were cut short by abortion been allowed to reach their term, the Spanish birthrate would be 1.6 child per woman today — not enough, but at least the population pyramid would no longer be top-heavy, with more elderly people than children and young people. Today, Spain has reached a stage where the population is in “negative growth” since 2015, with a balance of -54,944 in 2018.

In its 69-page report, “Abortion in Spain 35 years later, 1985–2020,” the IPF looks at the realities of abortion in Spain, showing clearly how laws and their liberal evolution have led to an increasing number of abortions over the years in an almost uninterrupted upward trend. Starting at zero legal abortions in 1985, it moved up to about 50,000 a year in the beginning of the 1990s, reaching over 91,000 in 2005 and 113,000 in 2010.

At that point, the curve descended to about 95,000 abortions a year, but 2010 is the year when chemical abortion was made legal. The medical follow-up and registration of chemical abortions is not compulsory in a number of autonomous regions in Spain, explains the IPF’s study; by extrapolation, and given that about a quarter of all abortions in Spain are now chemical instead of surgical, an estimated 7,000 undeclared abortions, at least, take place each year in the country. All the same, the general “official” curve has been slowly rising again since 2015.

The abortion industry, which operates mostly in private facilities, generates some 60 million euros’ worth of income each year. The number of abortion centers itself has gone up and up, from 146 centers in 2010 — a pivotal year for abortion — to 211 in 2018.

Successive governments, be they Christian-Democrat or Socialist, have never actually restricted access to abortion. In one of the most revealing chapters of the study, the IPF highlights how left-wing governments have facilitated access to abortion while their “conservative” successors have done nothing to reverse the trend; they have “consolidated” the progressive laws, according to the IPF.

“While I’m pleased that Dr. Acton will continue to advise Governor DeWine on health issues, I can’t help but be disappointed by her resignation as health director,” Kenny Yuko, the state Senate’s minority leader, a Democrat, told the Columbus Dispatch. “She endured an incredible amount of unfair criticism, including some antisemitic attacks. All those who have insulted, harassed or threatened her and her family should be ashamed.”

Acton appeared on a CNN town hall co-hosted by “Sesame Street” on Saturday.
