Court Brief: 23K Dead Registered Voters Could Get Mail-in Ballots in California

A court brief filed by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) alleges that thousands of dead registered voters could end up receiving mail-in ballots because they have not been removed from California’s voter rolls.

PILF President J. Christian Adams said in a statement:

California has a history of demonstrating that automation in voting processes will cause errors. Auto-mailings to active registrants won’t protect the state from sending ballots to dead and duplicated registrants — especially those who’ve shown an acknowledged willingness to take advantage of extra votes.

According to PILF researchers, there are about 23,000 dead registered voters on the state’s voter rolls, as well as 2,000 duplicate registrants across state lines with apparent voter credits in the last election, 1,525 registrants who apparently voted twice from the same addresses in the last three elections, and 280 registrants who apparently voted twice in two California counties in 2016.

The researchers also allege that between 2012 and 2018, more than 13.8 million mail-in ballots in California have been listed as “status unknown,” and nearly 840,000 mail-in ballots have been sent to out-of-date addresses.

The allegations come as former Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and the watchdog group Judicial Watch are suing Newsom over his May 8 executive order that authorizes California officials to send mail-in ballots to all registered voters.

Government Accountability Institute Research Director Eric Eggers has previously told Breitbart News that it is “fair to assume” many illegal aliens in California will obtain mail-in ballots for this year’s general election.

California has previously had a voter registration rate of over 100 percent, indicating more registered voters on voter rolls than those eligible to vote in the state.

An Introduction to Q

Who is Q? What is Q? And, perhaps most importantly, why is Q? Q and the ever-growing worldwide movement it’s inspired have

been the objects of fascination, mockery and hatred, but of surprisingly little serious analysis.

Q first appeared in October 2017 on an anonymous online forum called 4Chan, posting messages that implied top-clearance

knowledge of upcoming events. More than 3,000 messages later, Q has created a disturbing, multi-faceted portrait of a global crime

syndicate that operates with impunity. Q’s followers in the QAnon community faithfully analyze every detail of Q’s drops, which are

compiled here and here.

The mainstream media has published hundreds of articles attacking Q as an insane rightwing

conspiracy, particularly after President Trump seemed to publicly confirm his connection to it. At a

North Carolina rally in 2019, Trump made a point of drawing attention to a baby wearing a onesie

with a big Q.

In recent weeks, the tempo of Trump’s spotlighting of Q has accelerated, with the President

retweeting Q followers twenty times in one day. Trump has featured Q fans in his ads and deployed

one of Q’s signature phrases (“These people are sick”) at his rallies. The President’s lawyer, Rudy

Giuliani, has also retweeted Q followers.

Q has noted that the media never asks Trump the obvious question: What do you think of Q? To Q

followers, the reason they don’t ask is obvious. They’re afraid of the answer.

In the meantime, Q’s influence continues to spread. Protestors in Hong Kong, Iran, and France have held up Q signs and chanted Q

quotes. Q’s revelations are uniting people all over the world who want freedom.

If you’re unfamiliar with Q or only know it through the media’s attacks, I’d like to provide a brief introduction to this extraordinary

phenomenon. I’ve followed Q since the first drop, and I’ve grown increasingly impressed by the accuracy, breadth and depth of

Q’s messages. Q followers were prepared long in advance for the easing of hostilities with North Korea, the deflation of the mullahs

of Iran, and the discovery of Ukraine as a hotbed of corruption for American politicians. They knew a great deal about Jeffrey

Epstein’s activities before the public did and anticipate even more shocking revelations to come. As Q likes to say, “Future proves

past.” As Q’s predictions come true, they lend retroactive credibility to the entire enterprise.

Q’s followers believe that Q is a military intelligence operation, the first of its kind, whose goal is to provide the public with secret

information. Many Q followers think the Q team was founded by Admiral Michael Rogers, the former Director of the National

Security Agency and former Commander of US Cyber Command. Some suspect that Dan Scavino, White House Director of

Social Media, is part of the team, because the high quality of Q’s writing has the luster of a communications expert.

Q is a new weapon in the game of information warfare, bypassing a hostile media and corrupt government to communicate directly

with the public. Think of Q as a companion to Trump’s twitter. Whereas Trump communicates bluntly and directly, Q is cryptic, sly

and subtle, offering only clues that beg for context and connection.

Here’s the way it works: Q posts messages (also known as “drops” or “crumbs”) on an anonymous online forum, which are

discussed, analyzed, and critiqued by the board’s inhabitants. (The forum has changed a few times after massive online attacks.)

Hundreds of social media accounts then spread Q’s latest posting to worldwide followers who share their research, analysis, and

interpretations of Q’s latest information.

Mexico City Police Chief Wounded In Daylight Assassination Attempt Using .50 Cal Rifles & Grenades

Amid Mexico's spiraling cartel and drug war violence, and the police and military's uphill battle to get a handle on surging crime especially in sprawling urban poor neighborhoods, a brazen and shocking assassination attempt has targeted Mexico's City's chief of police on Friday.

Mexico City’s public security chief, Omar Garcia Harfuch, survived the attack and his now considered "out of danger" according to Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum. The top cop was wounded and is in the hospital, while at least two of his police bodyguards were killed.

Though details remain sparse, the attack appears to have been a major public street shootout scenario, akin to much of the cartel violence Mexican towns have been prone to, given the mayor also said an "undetermined number of people were killed" in the morning shootout.

"The police say that gunmen armed with .50 caliber sniper rifles and grenades exchanged fire with the chief’s security detail," AP reports. A woman who happened to be driving by was also shot and killed.

Local media says the attack occurred at around 6:30am, shocking the wealthy neighborhood district of Lomas de Chapultepec. Interestingly, such a violent scene is said to be extremely rare in the that part of the city. Gunshots were reportedly heard ringing out for several minutes as the streets erupted in chaos.

It's as yet unclear who the assassins or perpetrators were, however, Reuters described based on local officials that arrests have been made:

Separately, Ernestina Godoy, attorney general of Mexico City, said 12 people had been arrested.

Speaking at a regular government news conference, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador attributed the outbreak of violence to the work of local officials to establish order in the city.

Residents said heavy gunfire rang out for several minutes during the attack in Lomas de Chapultepec, which is home to many wealthy residents and the location of ambassadorial residences.

The Federalists vs. the Anti-Federalists

Just as important as reading the Federalist Papers is to also read the Anti-Federalist Papers. You also need to know that the "Federalists" were not really federalists, and the "Anti-Federalists" were not really anti-federalists. Once you understand that, the whole picture makes more sense.

The "Federalists" were not true federalists. Back then, a federalist was someone who wanted a federation. A federation meant a federation of states, which would have most of the power, and the federal government, would have some power, but not too much. They already had this under the Articles of Confederation. That is why it was called a confederation - it was a federation of states.

On the other hand, there were people who wanted a much stronger central government, with less power to the states. These people were called nationalists. So, the "Federalists" were actually nationalists (big central government). Alexander Hamilton was the leader of this faction (group of people with a particular political ideology).

Hamiltion knew that the Americans had just fought a war to throw off a monarchy, so Americans did not want a strong central government. Hamilton himself liked the idea of a monarchy; he just didn't like the British one. He wanted an "executive" who would serve for life, and would have a monarchy-type of succession. He also wanted the executive to have almost all of the power. He was a leading advocate for appointing George Washington as America's first king.

Hamilton called his faction the "Federalists" because he knew that "Nationalist" at that time was not popular. In other words, he lied about what he really believed when he participated in writing the Federalist Papers (a series of newspaper articles aimed at convincing the public to support ratification of the new Constitution). He wanted to install a monarchy.

I’ve compiled a list of Q’s most famous catch phrases and tried to put them into context.

rulers, whom Q has called The Cult. Jeffrey Epstein’s story has helped to awaken people to some of the elite’s crimes. The

mysterious temple on Epstein’s island hints at possible future revelations that are frightening in their scope. Q followers believe that

The Cult engages in ritual practices that enshrine the shedding of blood and which prey on the innocence of children. The sickness

in their souls thrives on brutality, war, and terror. These disclosures will be tough for the public to take.

Trust the plan. The presumed military leaders who created Q and who protected Trump throughout the election and presidency

have created a precise path to victory. Despite the seeming chaos of daily events, a steady progression of victories is taking place.

The plan includes offensive maneuvers against the Cult’s financial power, legal standing, human supply chains, and military capacity.

And, of crucial importance, the plan attacks the Cult’s ability to control the narrative that shapes what the public believes. In this

They want you divided. The hatred that’s growing between races, classes, age groups, religions, and political parties is purposely

that may be “bigger than you can imagine” is the unfathomable scale of theft from our national coffers, as funds for foreign aid and

wars wind up in the Cult’s pockets.

Track resignations. Beneath the surface, a broad and deep cleansing of corrupt players is taking place. Q asked us to trackresignations to understand the scope of activity. (Here’s a website that took him up on his request: www.resignation.info)

Resignations, retirements, and unexpected deaths from major players in politics, media, charities, and corporations all point to

possible deals being made quietly without the public fanfare of arrests. For me, a notable resignation is Eric Schmidt’s abrupt exit

from Google, which received little media attention. Schmidt resigned on December 21 , 2017, the same day that President Trump

signed an executive order declaring a national emergency related to “serious human rights abuse and corruption around the world.”

Further context for Schmidt’s resignation may be inferred from this photo of him in North Korea, apparently in an advisory role.

Standing next to him is Bill Richardson, former Governor of New Mexico, the state in which Epstein had a secret ranch. Richardson

has been accused by one of Epstein’s victims.

Their need for symbols will be their downfall. The Cult uses certain symbols over and over again, which may serve some

ritualistic need, but makes them vulnerable to detection. Q followers are familiar with Y-shaped horns that mimic those of the goat

deity Baphomet, owls, pyramids, one eye encased within a pyramid, red shoes, bandaged fingers, and other repeating symbols,

including the mysterious black eye that afflicts so many famous people. The Q Army also knows the coded pedophile symbols

listed by the FBI. When Q drew attention to the design of Epstein’s temple, alert Q followers noticed how similar it is to the set

design of a famous talk show. And the red ring on the hand of dead terrorist Qassam Soleimani prompted Q followers to compile

PATERSON, NJ – Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal today announced voting fraud charges against Paterson City Councilman Michael Jackson, Councilman-Elect Alex Mendez, and two other men in connection with the May 12, 2020 special election in the City of Paterson. The investigation by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity & Accountability (OPIA) began when the U.S. Postal Inspection Service alerted the Attorney General’s Office that hundreds of mail-in ballots were found in a mailbox in Paterson.

Numerous additional ballots were found in a mailbox in nearby Haledon. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all voting in May 12 elections in New Jersey was done by mail-in ballots.

Generally speaking, a voter who receives a mail-in ballot completes the ballot themselves and then returns the ballot by mailing it, placing it in a specially designated “drop box,” or delivering it to the County Board of Elections. However, New Jersey also allows a voter to provide the completed ballot to a “bearer,” who must complete the bearer certification on the ballot envelope in the presence of the voter and then return the ballot on behalf of the voter. Under state law, a bearer may collect and deliver ballots for no more than three voters in an election, and a candidate in the election is never permitted to serve as a bearer.

Public Interest Groups Set to Sue US EPA over Approval for Release of GMO Mosquitoes

Last Friday, environmental and other public interest organizations filed a formal pre-litigation notice with the Trump Administration stating their intention to sue the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its approval of the release of over a billion genetically engineered (GE) mosquitoes in Florida and Texas. The open air experiment would be the first ever in the United States. Under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), EPA was required to consult the expert wildlife agencies on the potential impacts to protected species. Instead, the administration summarily dismissed any possible environmental risks in granting the approval.

“With all the urgent crises facing our nation—the COVID-19 pandemic, racial injustice, climate change—the administration has used tax dollars and government resources for a Jurassic Park experiment, except without the island,” said Jaydee Hanson, policy director at the International Center for Technology Assessment and Center for Food Safety. “What could possibly go wrong? We don’t know, because they unlawfully refused to seriously analyze environmental risks.”

“The Florida Keys and Houston and the surrounding communities are home to some of the most diverse and threatened species in our country. Once again, the Trump administration is callously disregarding scientific experts and the will of communities to force this risky experiment through,” said Dana Perls, Program Manager, Food and Technology Campaign, Friends of the Earth U.S.

If EPA does not cure these violations within sixty days, the listed organizations intend to file suit against the responsible agencies and officials to enforce the ESA. The organizations are Center for Food Safety (CFS), Florida Keys Environmental Coalition, GMO Free USA, Foundation Earth, Friends of the Earth, and the International Center for Technology Assessment (ICTA).

Background:

On November 9, 2016, residents of Key Haven, Florida, the initial proposed release site of the GE mosquitoes, voted against the release of the insects, which were not adequately assessed for risk before being approved by the FDA. In 2017, residents of the Florida Keys again protested Oxitec’s application to EPA to release GE mosquitoes in their community. Now, in 2020, Florida Keys and Houston residents are protesting EPA’s approval of Oxitec’s Experimental Use Permit (EUP) to release more than a billion GE mosquitoes in their communities.

The lack of independent scientific research on the release of GE mosquitoes constitutes a most troubling factor in the drive to release hundreds of millions of these insects. While the desire to control mosquito-borne viral diseases like zika and dengue is understandable, Oxitec, the company manufacturing the GE mosquitoes, has not demonstrated that its release of the mosquitoes in Brazil, Cayman Islands, Panama, and Malaysia has reduced disease.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida banned alcohol consumption at its bars Friday after its daily confirmed coronavirus cases neared 9,000, a new record that is almost double the previous mark set just two days ago.

The Florida agency that governs bars announced the ban on Twitter just minutes after the Department of Health reported 8,942 new confirmed cases, topping the previous record of 5,500 set Wednesday.

State officials have attributed much of the new outbreak to young adults flocking to bars after they reopened in most of the state about a month ago, with many of them ignoring social distancing restrictions aimed at lowering the virus’s spread.

Fahad Al Rajaan has been living in a luxury apartment in London after flight from Kuwait

A Kuwaiti businessman sentenced to life in prison for plundering his country’s state pension fund has been living in exile in a luxury London apartment as accountants scramble to unravel his complex finances, The National can reveal.

Fahad Al Rajaan – who headed the fund for three decades – fled to the UK after a whistle-blower triggered a continuing 12-year investigation into alleged kick-backs and money laundering on a vast scale.

The golf-loving Mr Al Rajaan, 71, based in London since 2014, is accused of stealing more than $840m in unauthorised commissions through a network of intermediaries and hiding the proceeds in offshore accounts and a global property empire, according to court papers filed in the UK.

He was arrested by police in London in 2017 at the request of Kuwait but he was released and is understood not to be facing a current threat of extradition. Mr Rajaan said he has been sentenced to life in prison with hard labour in his absence.

The former bank chairman and public servant has been living an “extraordinarily lavish lifestyle” having spent at least $210 million over the last 30 years, a judge said this month.

Facebook Tumbles As Unilever Joins List Of Ad-Boycotting Virtue-Signalers

The growing number of companies that are pausing ads on Facebook in response to the social media giant’s handling of hate speech and violence is starting to have a notable effect on the company's share price.

Today's addition is perhaps a straw to break the camel's back as consumer-good giant Unilever joins Verizon as two major companies pausing ads on the social network in a grand virtue-signaling show.

"Based on the current polarization and the election that we are having in the U.S., there needs to be much more enforcement in the area of hate speech," said Luis Di Como, Unilever's executive vice president of global media, in an interview.

"Continuing to advertise on these platforms at this time would not add value to people and society," the company said in a statement. Its Facebook ban also will cover Instagram.

Mr. Di Como said Unilever would like to see a reduction in the level of hate speech on the platforms and wants independent companies to measure and confirm that progress has been made. As Fortune reports, the movement was launched last week by advocacy groups including the Anti-Defamation League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and Common Sense Media.

They asked businesses to pause their advertising on Facebook in July to send a “powerful message”:

“Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and violence.”

So far, more than 10 companies, including REI, Patagonia, North Face, Eddie Bauer, Verizon, Upwork, and Unilever’s Ben & Jerry’s, have joined the campaign.

“Facebook, Inc. must take the clear and unequivocal actions to stop its platform from being used to spread and amplify racism and hate,” Ben & Jerry’s tweeted on Tuesday after joining.

Analysts have claimed this virtue-signaling is a nothingburger from a financial perspective

“It’s not going to do anything to the company, financially,” said Brent Thill, an analyst at investment banking firm Jefferies.

“You have 8 million advertisers. If a handful leave, there’s a short-term air pocket, but it’s minor.”

China Warns US That "Crossing Red Lines" Puts Trade Deal At Risk

The US bill imposing mandatory sanctions on Chinese individuals and entities who “materially contribute to the contravention of China’s obligations” to Hong Kong’s autonomy - and banks that do “significant transactions” with them - was passed unanimously by the Senate on Thursday, with the House of Representatives working on its own version; the final bill gets passed to President Trump, who either signs it or vetoes it - in which case it has a veto-proof majority anyway. This, as Rabobank's Michael Every wrote, is the constitutional dynamic that has been described several times in the last 12 months for China-focused bills with serious consequences for not just international relations, but international business and finance.

"So far the results have not hit markets: but this bill cuts out the middleman and takes us straight to the biting sanctions", Every concluded.

But while we await the sanctions to kick in, moments ago we learned once again that China is hardly impressed by the latest developments, and in "quietly delivering a message" to Washington, Chinese leaders have "accused Washington of meddling in areas such as Hong Kong, where China is imposing a sweeping national-security law, and Taiwan."

According to a report in the journal, during a meeting between Mike Pompeo and China’s top diplomat last week in Hawaii, Yang Jiechi listed these actions as well as China’s “strong dissatisfaction” with a bill President Trump signed last week mandating sanctions against Chinese officials and entities deemed responsible for mass detention of Uighur Muslim in China’s northwestern Xinjiang region.

While Yang reiterated Beijing’s commitment to carrying out the trade deal, he stressed that both sides had to “work together,” said people familiar with the conversations. A Chinese official said that meant "the U.S. side should refrain from going too far with meddling" and that "Red lines shouldn’t be crossed."

The report then notes that shortly after the meeting concluded, Vice Premier Liu He said that Beijing’s ability to carry out the trade deal required the U.S. to "ease off" pressure on other fronts.

"The two countries should create conditions and atmosphere, and eliminate interference, to jointly implement the Phase One agreement," Liu said in written remarks to a high-profile financial forum held in Shanghai on June 18.

“You can’t keep asking us to buy your stuff and at the same time keep beating up on us,” said Mei Xinyu, an analyst at a think tank affiliated with China’s Commerce Ministry. “That’s not how it works.”

I feel like this is getting pushed off and trying again. This isn't about ballot/vote counting or validation or voting machines.

This is about researching who is producing the mail-in ballot. I looked in Qresea.ch and got 5 hits, none about production of mail-in paper ballots.

Creating illegal ballots

Anons - I wonder if we are chasing the wrong dog by discussing the back end of the mail-in ballots, i.e. the distribution and collection process and it’s legality. All valid concerns but here’s another angle.

We have been told several times (Q and several DJT statements) about excess ballots being created both domestically and internationally using the SAME MACHINES and SAME PAPER.

What about the ORIGIN of the ballots?

Well then,

1) What machines / paper are being used to print the official ballets in each state?

2) What about State contracts for the ballots? Receipts of orders and payments? When did that start? What about the planning (candidate) on the ballots? How much “lead time” is usually required for orders of this type / magnitude?

3) Who else has access (domestically and internationally) to these machines / paper?

4) Do these companies report future orders, inventory? What about their sub-suppliers? Remember, this type of plan had to put in place sometime back, not when the MSM starts to report it.

Q has always said that the information will be in the public databases, it just has to be dug up.

As I have always stated, I’m not autist enough to know where to dig into this but there are Anons who are.

'Preferential treatment'

In a win for religious freedom advocates, a federal judge ruled that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) are wrong to limit religious gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic while at the same time supporting mass protests of racial injustice.

U.S. District Judge Gary L. Sharpe issued a preliminary injunction Friday prohibiting Cuomo, his attorney general, and de Blasio from ordering or enforcing any arbitrary limits on church gatherings.

In his decision, Sharp noted that "it is not the judiciary's role to second guess the likes of Governor Cuomo or Mayor de Blasio when it comes to decisions they make in such troubling times, that is, until those decisions result in the curtailment of fundamental rights without compelling justification."

The order effectively states that the New York officials cannot impose any limitation on outdoor gatherings and cannot impose limitations on indoor gatherings out-of-step with phases two and three of the New York's reopening plan.

Under the plan, "essential" businesses are granted 100% occupancy and "nonessential" businesses are granted 50% occupancy, but religious gatherings are confined to 25% occupancy.

"We are pleased that Judge Sharpe was able to see through the sham of Governor Cuomo's 'Social Distancing Protocol' which went right out the window as soon as he and Mayor de Blasio saw a mass protest movement they favored taking to the streets by the thousands," Thomas More Society Special Counsel Christopher Ferrara said in a news release.

The Thomas More Society, a conservative not-for-profit national law firm, represented the group of Catholic priests and Jewish congregants who brought the complaint.

"Suddenly, the limit on 'mass gatherings' was no longer necessary to 'save lives,'" Ferrara added. "Yet they were continuing to ban high school graduations and other outdoor gatherings exceeding a mere 25 people. This decision is an important step toward inhibiting the suddenly emerging trend of exercising absolute monarchy on pretext of public health. What this kind of regime really meant in practice is freedom for me, but not for thee."

Preferential treatment for protests

Limitations on mass gatherings due to COVID-19 seemingly went out the window as mass protests erupted across America following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis over Memorial Day weekend.

In New York, thousands of protesters flocked to the streets day after day without any pushback from Cuomo and de Blasio.

Instead, the aforementioned officials spoke openly in support of New York residents' freedom to protest while still enforcing limitations on other forms of public assembly.

Sharpe, in his ruling, pointed out the hypocrisy, arguing the double standard amounted to "preferential treatment" for the protesters.

"Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio could have just as easily discouraged protests, short of condemning their message, in the name of public health and exercised discretion to suspend enforcement for public safety reasons instead of encouraging what they knew was a flagrant disregard of the outdoor limits and social distancing rules," Sharpe wrote. "They could have also been silent. But by acting as they did, Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio sent a clear message that mass protests are deserving of preferential treatment."

Council advances plan to dismantle Minneapolis Police Dept

The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously approved a radical proposal to change the city charter that would allow the police department to be dismantled, following mass public criticism of law enforcement over the killing of George Floyd.

The 12-0 vote is just the first step in a process that faces significant bureaucratic obstacles to make the November ballot, where the city’s voters would have the final say. And it came amid a spate of recent shootings in Minnesota’s largest city that have heightened many citizens’ concerns about talk of dismantling the department.

The Minneapolis force has come under heavy pressure since Floyd, a Black man in handcuffs, died May 25 after a police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes. Activists had long accused the department of being unable to change a racist and brutal culture, and earlier this month, a majority of the council proclaimed support for dismantling the department.

Doing so would first require amending the city charter. Draft language of the amendment posted online would replace the department with a Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention, “which will have responsibility for public safety services prioritizing a holistic, public health-oriented approach.”

The amendment goes on to say the director of the new agency would have “non-law-enforcement experience in community safety services, including but not limited to public health and/or restorative justice approaches.” It also provides for a division of licensed peace officers, who would answer to the department’s director.

Council members who support the change are looking to seize on a groundswell of support for significant policing changes following Floyd’s death. If they don’t get the charter change on the November ballot, their next chance won’t come until November 2021, they say.

“It is time to make structural change,” Council Member Steve Fletcher said. “It is time to start from scratch and reinvent what public safety looks like.”

The proposed amendment is expected to be approved Friday, but that’s just a first step. It goes then to a policy committee and to the city’s Charter Commission for formal review. The commission’s recommendation doesn’t bind the council, but it takes time.

Barry Clegg, chairman of the Charter Commission, said the process feels rushed.

“As I understand it, they are saying, ‘We are going to have this new department. We don’t know what it’s going to look like yet. We won’t implement this for a year, we’ll figure it out,’” Clegg said. “For myself anyway, I would prefer that we figured it out first, and then voted on it.”

Texas and Florida ordered bars to stop serving alcohol on site Friday amid a record-breaking surge in COVID-19 cases in both states, as the White House coronavirus task force was set to hold its first public briefing in almost two months.

The two populous southern states, home to some 50 million people, were spared the worst of the outbreak in spring but are now being struck hard.

The United States, already the hardest-hit country in the world with close to 125,000 deaths, never fully emerged from its first wave. Following a weeks-long plateau, new cases are once again back to where they were in April.

“At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican ally of President Donald Trump.

As a result, bars will be required to close but may continue providing delivery and take-out services. Other measures include that restaurants can remain open with 50 percent capacity indoors, and outdoor gatherings of 100 people or more require local government approval.

Texas was among the most aggressive states in reopening in early June after months of lockdown. But the strategy has backfired: the state saw a record of 5,596 new coronavirus cases Thursday, a major jump from just 10 days ago, when the state had only 1,254 new cases in a day.

Lina Hidalgo, the chief executive of Harris County, the most populous in Texas which includes the city of Houston, issued a stay-at-home advisory and raised the threat level to “severe” or Level 1.

“This pandemic is like an invisible hurricane,” Hidalgo said. “This is a serious situation. The outbreaks are worsening.”

Hidalgo, who is affiliated with the Democratic party, does not have the authority to make the guidance mandatory.

Florida meanwhile reported a record breaking 8,942 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, as well as 39 new deaths and 212 additional hospitalizations.

“Effective immediately, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation is suspending on premises consumption of alcohol at bars statewide,” the Florida government department tweeted Friday.
