Hey, /asatru/, I come to you in a time of great need. I’m currently trying to pull myself out of a deep hole, and I have a serious problem. For a few years I have struggled with addiction. I was clean for about a month and a half (that’s huge for me) after taking a vow to someone who is dead whom I greatly admire. However, after a recent emotional trauma, I relapsed. In doing so, I have dishonoured myself, but more importantly the man to whom I vowed never to use again. Can I make things right again? Obviously I never intend to use again but is there any way I can atone for what I’ve done? I care much more about the disrespect I have shown than my own guilt. I’ll already have to live with this for the rest of my life. Thanks in advance for any help.

There are some examples from the sagas if my recollection serves me correctly things like Kinslaying, Oathbreaking, etc. Anything that gets you branded as an outlaw. Casting the Runes

A person who had lived in the twentieth century had little conception of the influence and powers exerted by magic in the lives of his ancestors, even up to this early part of the twenty-first century. Religious practices of the past, which usually included magical rituals, were not regarded, as they are today, as a once-a-week observance of the hypothetical existence of a supreme creator but as a daily acknowledgement of the powers of Nature which ruled the lives of men. Magic was as normal and as acceptable to our ancient predecessors as electricity is us today, and in their eyes just as vital to the sustaining of everyday life. It was pure commonsense to the ancient peoples of Western Europe to invoke their gods and placate them with magical rites in order to ward off illness, bring good luck and fertility to the tribe and maintain harmony between men and the natural forces which they regarded as supernatural manifestations of the gods.

In Western Europe, during the historical period we now designate as the Dark Ages, the most powerful form of magic was that of the secret craft of rune casting. The use of runes achieved such a wide popularity because, unlike the later magical traditions of the Middle Ages which drew their impetus from the Judeo-Christian cabbala, it was a magic system with down-to-earth symbols relating to daily life.

The scope of runic magic is emphasized by the following list of different runes taken from the Norse sagas: birth runes, healthy runes, fertility runes, weather runes, love runes, healing runes, cursing runes and death runes. All these symbols and their attendant powers for good or evil were available to the ordinary person, either directly or through the offices of a local wizard, rune master priest.

Rune sorcery was considered so potent that even the dead could be raised by their evocation. This necromaniac rite of the dead was celebrated in a popular rhyme attributed to Odin.

>The Germanic Nordic Legacy

.renegadetribune.com/the-nordic-legacy/

When a religion dies, its legacy can be twofold. At one level, folk beliefs and customs preserve some fragments of the past which are handed on in unbroken tradition with little awareness of their origins owning to the instructive respect rural communities feel for the ways of earlier generations. The second level, in contrast, is the creation of academic interest. This occurs when scholars, writers and artists of a far later period rediscover the pre-Christian roots of their nation’s culture, and consciously use them to pursue a political or artistic agenda. Germanic heathenism has left its legacy in both these ways.

By the year [1000?] A.C.E., the work of Christian missionaries, which had begun in Germany some 400 years previously, had penetrated even the remotest areas of Scandinavia. Everywhere the ruling classes had accepted the new faith, and heathenism was officially abandoned, although common sense suggests that the conversion was not so sudden or complete as medieval writers claimed.

Nonetheless, heathen worship was condemned, and Christian writers adopted various ways of diminishing its power. To Snorri, although they were wise and powerful, the gods were based on human kings whom heathen men thought to be divine; to others, they were demons or else mere lifeless statues. But their names were never forgotten; not only are four English weekdays named after them, but Germanic and Scandinavian languages are rich in personal names alluding to gods, to heroes, to Valkyries, and to animals, such as the wolf, that had mythical associations.

In the 1930s, Himmler and the SS founded the Ahnenerbe or Ancestral Heritage Society, a research arm of the SS that sent expeditions across Europe and the world to investigate Aryan origins. This was an actual attempt, on the part of Heinrich Himmler and the SS, to generate a body of research and evidence that could recapture our Aryan heritage which was lost first to Imperial Roman occupation and then by Christianity. For the first time in human history, there was an attempt to re-discover true Aryan origins and to clarify Germanic prehistory. No one nation has put such an effort before or since to re-discover and document our prehistoric past. If this was Himmler’s only true contribution to history, then he should be considered a hero of our people. Although his main concern was validating Germanic Aryan origins, his research has shown that the Aryan race has roots far beyond just Celtic, Slavic or Germanic implications, but shows that the Aryan race demonstrates unity of language, ethnicity and culture going back to a greater antiquity.

Ancient Origins of the Aryan Germanic Race

The never-ending saga of human evolution is both provocative and profound, and nothing is more mysterious than the origin of the white European population of the world. Contrary to popular belief, its history and legacy date back to a remote and forgotten antiquity. We are a species with amnesia, not knowing where we came from, without the memory of past and glorious epoch of mankind which we are only know rediscovering.

We know from today’s statistics, those of white European descent comprise only 8% of the world’s population. We are one of the world’s tiniest minorities next only to the Jews, small primitive tribesmen and Australian aboriginies. Historically, however, this small percentage of the world’s population has been the main force of civilization, technology and advancement in both the ancient and modern world. We also have generally exerted the most power and influence than any other race or group of nations. Out of all the races of mankind none has been more problematic, more controversial, and more indebted to by the world for its gift of Western Civilization.

Ancient Caucasians gave birth to a lost global civilization to which we owe our culture and civilization of today. We can still see the monuments this lost civilization has left behind to us, and hear the stories of the great white gods who built them and the great Atlantean heroes who came to the world in its greatest hour of need. There is tremendous evidence that in incredibly distant times, in regions now known to be non-Caucasian, fair-skinned, blond or red-haired people were both the founders and champions of civilization. For centuries, there have been reports of ancient Caucasoid peoples thriving in remote corners of the world who later vanished mysteriously from history. These accounts speak of white, red-haired giants and yellow-haired barbarians in countries now almost exclusively populated by non-Caucasian peoples. In time, modern archaeologists found traces of their millennia-old corpses preserved in desert sands or frigid glaciers, even viable samples of their DNA would eventually be discovered.

The Ahnenerbe discovered ancient Germanics

Every manifestation of human culture, ever product of art, science and technical skill, which we see before our eyes to-day, is almost, exclusively the product of the Aryan creative power. All that we admire in the world today, its science and its art, its technical developments and discoveries, are the products of the creative activities of a few peoples, and it may be true that their first beginnings must be attributed to one race. The existence of civilization is wholly dependent on such peoples. Should they perish, all that makes this earth beautiful will descend with them into the grave.”

Ancient Viking coffin ship unearthed in Norway (PHOTOS)

>Archaeologists in Norway believe they have uncovered a Viking boat buried beneath the city of Trondheim.

The boat, which was at least 4 meters (13ft) long, was buried in a north-south direction and it dates back to between the seventh and 10th centuries.

Archaeologists from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) discovered the remains last week on one of their final days excavating the market square.

The boast is damaged several places by pits and post holes. Cautious excavation has reveiled that there is no wood left but clumps of rust and some poorly preserved nails that show that this is probably a boat grave.

The boat also contained two long bones which were also laid out in a north-south direction.

“Careful excavation revealed that no wood remained intact, but lumps of rust and some poorly-preserved nails indicated that it was a boat that was buried here,” archaeologist Ian Reed of NIKU said in a statement.

Reed said the evidence suggests that a person was buried within the boat, but the researchers will have to carry out DNA testing to confirm the hypothesis.

NIKU’s Knut Paasche, a specialist in early boats, added that the vessel was dug down into the ground and had been used as a coffin for the dead.

“There has also probably been a burial mound over the boat and grave,” Paasche said.

>1,000-year-old Pagan Germanic Viking Boat Burial Discovered Under Market Square in Norway

A millennium-old Viking boat grave with bones and sheet bronze still inside has been discovered under a market square in Norway. The grave was found during one of the final days of excavations by the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) in the Norwegian city of Trondheim.

A team of archaeologists excavating in Norway, have unearthed a 1,000-year-old Viking boat burial measuring more than 4 meters (13 feet). The tomb was found during excavations beneath the market square of the Norwegian city of Trondheim as Live Science reported . While none of the vessel's wood remains, preserved lumps of rust and nails indicate a boat was buried at the site between the 7 th and 10 th centuries AD. “Careful excavation works revealed that no wood remained intact, but lumps of rust and some poorly-preserved nails indicated that it was a boat that was buried here,” archaeologist Ian Reed told NIKU .

<The Greeks knew the Thracian names of Dionysus; those most commonly used were Sabos and Sabazius. The cult of the Thracian "Dionysus" is reminiscent of the rites presented by Euripides in the Bacchae. The ceremonies took place at night, in the mountains, by torchlight; a wild music (the sounds of bronze caldrons, cymbals and flutes) inspired believers to joyous outcries and to dances in furious circles. "It was especially women who indulged in these disorderly and exhausting dances; their costume was strange; they wore "bessares," long, floating garments made, it seems, from foxskins; above those, deerskins, and probably horns on their heads." In their hands they held snakes consecrated to Sabazius, daggers, or thyrsi. Attaining paroxysm, "sacred madness," they seized animals chosen to be sacrificed and tore to pieces, eating raw flesh. This ritual omophagy produced identification with the god; the participants now called themselves Sabos or Sabazius.

Hymn to Dionysus

The God of All Things Wild

Dionysus! Wanderer of field and forest

Long grasses and wiry shrubs

As the sacred wine is within the jeweled cup

So are you within all things wild

You are the whirlwind of mighty change upon the abstracted

Tearer-down of great cities, burning temples and sculptures

That mankind may see what is living

Typhoon! Famine! Violent death!

Such is the revenge of Dionysus

Upon those who forget their true heritage

And take upon themselves the lives of others

Beware, liars, slanderers, gossips, cheats

The over-civilized and the under-sensitive

Philosophers, logicians, money-lenders, and those that feel in words

For your script will be burnt and your logic destroyed

And your gaping emptiness will be filled by the powers

Of savage and inborn truth.

Dionysus is the reality of Nature

Hidden deep within the body

Blood-lust, desire, and naked fear

Love and hatred based on instinct

Drunkenness barring true direction

Violence showing man's true home

Dizziness causing veering footsteps

To find the true path once again.

Within the grasp of his powerful hands

Is the secret of change and sudden awareness

He looses chains and breaks down walls

He opens the vast unknown potential

Of the human soul.

His are the worshipers of wild, free Nature

Historically, asatru pagans were henotheists who thought the Christian God was legit and powerful, just like their other gods, they just didn't follow him.

So you should accept the possibility of the Christian God as probable and legitimate. Otherwise you're more like a modernist atheist, not a traditionalist or pagan if you deny him outright.

What are y'all's thoughts on the Golden One? Personally I find him LARPy and Cringey at times but overall he seems to have a pretty good message.

The Golden One is both wiser than he appears and also a lot wiser than those who think they do anyone a service trying to undermine him.

When pagans have friends like you, they need no enemies.

He defends faggotry and is proud of being a white knight (but most nationalists are white knights). The thing I find most annoying about him though, is that he roleplays as a Roman warrior. It's like if an Italian guy pretended to be a viking.

As someone with a Christian schooling background, I know that Christians use Apologies, defenses of their beliefs, to state why they believe what they believe. I can't, however, find almost anything about something like this for paganism (explanations for why you believe, logical defenses of polytheism, etc)

I did some looking around for something akin to pagan apologetics but all I got were Wiccans calling people intolerant or rayciss and calling it a day. Some gems I've found include things like

>Nationalism=racism and bigotry and always will

Do any of you here on /asatru/ have resources for pagan apologetics/things you have thought up? I would think a topic like this would be important to discuss for anyone of some kind of faith.

Thanks

We dont need apolegetics because we arent a kike derived religion, we have nothing to apoligize for. That word is one the reasons i keep saying christcuck, i mean how much more cuckolded do you habe to be to have an entire system called apolegetics to defend yoyr kike god and maintain mental gymnastics?

I like the idea of rational defense of paganism in debate but plz call it another, less cucky word

Fair response. If apologetic doesn't fit for you, let's just use "pagan philosophy/reasoning".

Don't blame OP because you don't know the original meaning of the word (hint: it has nothing to do with saying sorry).

http://etymonline.com/index.php?term=apology

> early 15c., "defense, justification," from Late Latin apologia, from Greek apologia "a speech in defense," from apologeisthai "to speak in one's defense," from apologos "an account, story," from apo "away from, off" (see apo-) + logos "speech" (see Logos).

I've recently been reading pic related.

I know vidya is degenerate, but while playing Medieval 2 Total War I couldn't help but find the idea of a warrior monotheism interesting if not appealing. Help me come back to the paganpill guys.

My views right now:

Early Christianity provided a parrallel society in a time when the Roman world was dying. This is very similar to today's left and right political movements (which are both religions if evaluated.)

Modern Christianity is literal jew worship + humanism.

However, Medieval Catholicism was basically a blend of European ideals and semitic ones.

Also, allow me to bring up the fact that unlike many who share my sentiments regarding Christianity, I'm not opposed to the Christ figure. However, I feel like the Bible's depiction of Jesus as not only being a Jew but a Rabbi as well, is false. Basically I see all of the Old Testament and most of the New as trash, with a little truth mixed like the whipping of the Jews at the Temple for instance. It would be fair to say that my rejection of Christianity stems directly from my anti-Semitism.

What you call modern christianity is not christian in any sense of the word.

What used to be called Christendom was a civilization atop three pillars: the Graeco-Roman legacy, the traditions of the northern peoples, and Christianity. Every one of them essential.

Every one shat upon today.

>In core issue is that you refuse to accept that Christianity is anything but the ugly strawman that people like Varg have propped up. You find the most subverted manifestations of the Church and bring attention to it, because you fear the real truth

Are you saying that almost every church on this earth, except perhaps some elements within the Orthodox church and some Christian Identitarian groups, are not openly promoting multiculturalism, universalism and racemixing?

Because that seems to be the default position of almost every Christian group on this earth, and something which is ""pardon my christcuck talk" satanic to every true Germanic.

Are you really that weak-willed that you get swayed from your religion, supposedly a serious matter, because you like the aesthetics of another one in a very specific time period on a fictional setting? Really nigger?

>Early Christianity provided a parrallel society in a time when the Roman world was dying. This is very similar to today's left and right political movements (which are both religions if evaluated.)

Christianity only ever got relevant in Rome after Constantine, and until Theodosius came in, it basically was restricted to the Levant and the city of Rome itself. 90% as in of its territorial extension werent christian until its adoption as the state religion.

If you're talking about REALLY early christianity, that shit was for the jews, not the pagans. Pagans already had the golden principle consacreted in their moral fiber, which was Jesus' mains teaching.

>>15107

This is pretty accurate. Most christians at the time just listened to what their priest told them and assumed that was the word of Christ. Sometimes it was true, sometimes it wasn't.

That's how germanic christianity came into existance, basically priests implementing taqiya on the germans.

But let's not overly simplify things, by the low middle ages, which was the period where the knights had the most prevalence, the christians of the time werent crypto-pagans anymore.

>We saw this when Early Christian mobs defaced (Literally) Ancient Roman statues - removing their noses and carving crosses into them. You need to realize that pre-Christian European faiths all had value, each one, and the YHWH of the Bible demands you completely erase them from the face of the earth.

Well, technically that isnt what christianity is supposed to be. It's like i said, people just did whatever their priest told them, and so did iconoclasm come into existance, by some priests completely ignoring the fact that Jesus negated the old covenant and therefore adopting old testament principles where they shouldnt. That the insanity of monotheism, obviously iconoclasm is part of Christianity, just as much as the veneration of saints is, but because you imagine there is a single God, a single faith, a single dogma, you have to somehow reason how thousands of years of Christian history are really not Christian, because it's not suitable as propaganda anymore.

Wotan demands human sacrifices……

So maybe go more with Donar?

That's how easy Germanics deals with religious troubles.
