I'm quite a busy man working a job that eats up a lot of my spare time and I'm also expecting my first child so I may not be posting all that often but it is my ambition to keep this board clean of brownpills and other spam.
I'm an oldfag who's been in the fashion photography trade for many years. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute meaningfully to the board and not just function as its custodian.
Finally decided to bite the bullet and bought an a7III. Was waiting for Panasonic to release something great but instead the S1 turned out to be a bit of a disappointment and frankly I don't have the patience to wait another year or two for there to be a lens/adapter ecosystem worth putting money into.
So does /p/ like any photography channels or review sites? Stuff like Digitalrev, Lanier or that guy with the baby making hips Matt G?
Most of these guys seem to talk the talk but they're all sort of dysfunctional looking, I guess that does not have an effect on skill but it's hard to trust a guy wearing a studded fedora.

The only question now is of course whether or not this has any impact on the longevity of the DSLR.
They may seem leagues apart and technically speaking there is absolutely no fucking reason to be comparing compacts and full frame cameras but consumer gear has always been a stepping stone for budding enthusiasts to get into proper photography.
The real question is of course whether or not smartphones will incentize the kind of artistic creativity that leads to people wanting better gear to push the boundaries of their aesthetic desires or if they will be able to satisfy that itch to a sufficient degree that they start eating into the sales of actual proper camera systems.
creepy filter
hey /p/ this is a picture I took with an old Chromebook I used to have. I have absolutely no idea how this happened, as I was taking some other pictures along this one and those turned out fine. I just thought this would be the most appropriate place to ask what could have happened to the software that made this happen and if there is a way to replicate it as a filter. I was photographing from day zero, I never left my camera at home, I never allowed anybody to stop me taking photos, I never was ashamed of taking photos (in any pose), I occasionally go for a photo walk with my expensive gear wherever I want despite the dangers, I find any weather suitable for photos, I do not hesitate asking a stranger for a portrait, I missed only one or two worthy scenes because I doubted they will be good during several years of photographing, I wipe the UV protector with my clothes.
I got a thousand of photos which I strongly like and I am fully satisfied with images I have.

I am the happiest man from those who are not satisfied with photography: my only problem is that I do not know a good way of exposing those loads of photos which I personally like.
Another problem is that photos which I like are mostly subject-centristic.
I have never seen /p/ to teach about arranging photos. I came to a point at which any arrangement is either dumb or does not simplify the matter.
How is a photo like this achieved?
I came across this photo on /fa and I'm curious as to how it came out so nice looking.
I'm assuming that it's from the composition and the color-grading.
There's also something else about it, almost like there's a filter placed on top of it that makes it appear almost like it's vector based. I've never seen a more soothing photo than this.

Photography Challenge: Spoopy edition
Hopefully a topic that's a bit less abstract this time.
Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to create a spooky image. If it evokes a sense of mystery or spookiness, or, in general, looks like a place you'd rather not be alone, let's see it. Spooky people, spooky landscapes, spooky cornerstore lots lit only by a long exposure for a dingy old streetlight's orange light.

This is the only image of relevance I've recently taken. Before shooting a graduation ceremony, I ducked into the abandoned halls and found a locked set of doors leading to a creepy hallway. Image is junk because the glass on the door was fogged and didn't allow much light through. Heavily processed to make it not worthless.

The deadpan aesthetic portrays the subject in a deliberately emotionless and otherwise impassive, matter-of-fact manner. Photographs in this style are usually casual, monotone, devoid of emotion, centered, and sharply in focus.

Pinhole photography
Just hand developed a roll of pinhole photographs and scanned them in. These were taken with a holga 135 pinhole camera on tri-x 400 film. I developed them with fujifilm chemicals. 7 minutes in the developer, 1 minute in the stop bath, 9 minutes fixer, and a 10 minute water wash.
The roll was really overexposed because I miscalculated how long I should shoot each frame for (it was my first time shooting with a holga pinhole). Anyways, here they are.

I'm a color photographer. I am absolutely fascinated with colors and how they blend with shapes and light. I love films, edits, and processes that give a high contrast, deep over-saturation of colors. I also love weird and funky colors.
My favorite times to shoot are when the sun is in the middle of waxing and it happens to be a very bright day; sometimes, if the conditions are just right, and the exact perfect amount of particles are in the air, and the leaves are all in the right place, and you've sacrificed at least 20 beetles, you can get extremely bright colors and funky contrasts. The perfect time to shoot grainy film.
Aside from the question of the thread, what kinds of colors do you like? What kind of film produces your favorite colors? What about camera settings and photo edits?

I have a question. I'd like to shoot videos for a youtube channel (going to teach my hobby) and I also love sky watching at night. Taking VIDEO, not pictures or time lapse, but video.
I understand that you need a camera that has sensitive low-light features for it to be able to actually see the stars in good quality. The youtube stuff will be easy, any camera can handle that. The reason im leaning towards a gopro 4 black is that it's small, compact, good battery, and it advertises some special improved low-light night time settings. Ive seen the videos of its night-lapse which is beautiful but im looking to capture video. Like a 30 seconds clip of a shooting star and/or satellite.

Dumping Light Painting Series
Hi 8chan /p/. Let me say that i mostly lurked /p/ over there and didn't like posting because people are unreasonable assholes (for the lulz) but I hated it.I'm trying out here to see what it's like.
I'm working on a series of light pained images of outdated technology called "Retro Techno". Each is about 15-20 exposures blended. U guise like? Please keep n mind this is my first real attempt at serious light painting.
I used a cable release and just kept the shutter open until I was done painting each section. I used a small Single LED flashlight and an iPhone light.
