Am I a hiptard for considering buying a Contax G2 in the year of our lord 2019. If there's a better film rangefinder alternative where would the money be better spent?

If you're dead set on the rangefinder format and you don't perform surgery on oral cavities it seems like a fine choice.

You could try the voigtlander bessa r3m. Ive got one, the only bad side is that the shutter requires battery if you want to use anything other than 1/50 speed.

Would take a 5 dollar battery any day over a leica with broken shutter mechanism that requires hundreds of dollars in repairs.
