I shot that first one at midnight at f/2 on bulb mode. Held the exposure for something like 5 seconds. The city lights bled in from over the mountain. It was pretty surreal.

I like the fourth one here, too. It has a nice dreamy vibe to it.

Did you use a Holga for these?

I didnt use a holga for these. I shot them with a 35mm summicron mounted on a leica mp with tri-x film. I developed the negatives with fujifilm developer at 7 minutes, then a 1 minute stop, and 9 minute fix ending with a 10 minute wash. and Then I "scanned" them using my dslr.

I just ordered a new 100mm f2.8L macro lens for my dslr so I can get better "scans". Ill probably be rescanning some of these after I get that new lens. When I finish, Ill post those new scans and we can compare them with the old ones :D

I learned photography a long time ago with a holga, so my shots definitely have some holga influence. Probably they look 'low-quality' because of my scanning method. My new macro lens will surely have better scanning capabilities!

Oh. Some of them have a soft look to them, almost like they were taken on a toy camera.

Hmm maybe thats just the bad scanning. Ill make some awesome scans in a few days when my new lens gets here!

Do you use holga much?

I've only had two rolls developed so far and I'm still figuring out what I'm doing. I did shoot more, but in some cases I ended up ruining the film and in another the film was bad in the first place (ancient slide film that expired around 1990).

Before that, my only experience was shooting two or three rolls on a Smena Symbol, none of which turned out.

Be sure to get black electrician's tape, and tape up the sides of the holga. That will prevent excessive light leaks and help a lot with getting a decent photo.

How are you developing the photos? Yourself or with a pro lab?

I really like the holga. It appeals to me more than the Diana. Did you hear that the original Holga maker is about to release a digital holga?

The digital holga only shoots color and cant do multiple exposures though. If it only shot B&W (like the monochrom) and let you shoot multiple exposures (like the 70D), then I would buy it for sure!

>Be sure to get black electrician's tape, and tape up the sides of the holga.

I actually put velcro straps on the metal parts of the sides to make sure they don't fall off, as well as a piece of electrical tape over the frame counter. Unfortunately, my second roll had no light leaks at all from what I could tell (it was blurry since I accidentally had it on the bulb setting), and light leaks are probably the biggest reason I got a Holga in the first place. If this next roll doesn't have them, I'll probably end up removing them.

>How are you developing the photos? Yourself or with a pro lab?

I just send them in to Dwayne's Photo at this point. If I get more consistent results, I'll probably learn to do it myself.

>It appeals to me more than the Diana.

Yeah, I looked into getting a Diana at first (due to seeing a digital version some guy put out a while back), but the Holga seemed more like what I was looking for.

>Did you hear that the original Holga maker is about to release a digital holga?

No, that's interesting. I did see that there were knockoff digital simulations a while back, though. Maybe this new one will be better.

You can see the info about the new digital holga here:

Im still not sure if I want to get one. It seems like it will be cheapish so why not.

If it can simulate the idiosyncracies of the original camera well enough, I might have to pick one up. I ended up buying a Nikon D3200 with a Holga lens a while back, but after getting the real thing I've never had any use for it. Maybe I should just look into this and sell that off.

So... three years later update. I ended up getting the digital holga and it sucks ass. Not even in a good way. It is literally a 1990s webcam in a camera body. Its hard to tell when it even takes a picture. I really liked the idea of it though, so I bought the digital Leica MD and that has been my daily driver since. The holga digital sucked so hard, but it really opened my eyes to the MD and I am glad I had bought the holga in hindsight, even though it sucked.

>kickstater project leads to disappointment

Shame to see that theme carries over to photography from where it is well established in gaming.
