You should be reading the deep thoughts available at:

https://opaque.link/

Here's a sample from their latest:

Three main risks present themselves for Dropgangs:

Cryptocurrency tracing: Since all payments are conducted with cryp-

tocurrency, the use of “Privacy Coins” has established itself within the

Dropgangs. However, customers usually only have less private currencies

available. This requires a functional exchange infrastructure between less

and more private cryptocurrencies. This vector of attack is currently

exploited by law enforcement.

• Communication tracing: Dropgangs necessarily operate infrastructure to

keep in contact with their customers. Law enforcement can potentially

identify and track this infrastructure to find the operators. However,

operators usually have access to sufficient anonymization technology and

are well trained in using it.

• Surveillance of potential dead drop locations: Potential dead drop locations

can be identified and surveilled by law enforcement to find those serving

them. This poses a number of problems for law enforcement. First, the

number of potential dead drop locations is very high which requires a lot

of resources to surveil to even catch anybody by pure luck. Second, it is

hard to distinguish customer and supplier at this moment if the dead drop

operator uses basic protective tradecraft.

It is likely that the black market will solve the cryptocurrency tracing risk

soon. Technology in this field is developing quickly. It is likely that either new

exchange methods are found, like peer-to-peer decentralized on-chain Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

Since theres a lot of doom and gloom about the low PPH on /cyber/, I'll contribute stuff about my videogame. (This is the hacking sim/strategy game, not the point and click adventure, which is >>26172)

Theres two modes to it, one being the command line hacking aspect, and the other being a city view where you direct your agents to different locations to perform different actions. Thats one thing I liked about Hacker Evolution, it gave a distinct sense of 'place', where your level was rooted clearly in some physical part of the world, like an office building or intersection, or more broadly a city.

>Why start this thread?

I'm hoping to harvest some of the passion /cyber/ has for this kind of thing. Story-wise, I lean towards a lot of the themes present in cyberpunk, such as corruption, haves vs. have-nots, and tech knowledge opening up doors that most people don't know about. But its more like this game brushes up against a lot of /cyber/ themes, rather than this being Cyberpunk: The Game.

Currently I'm focusing on programming the world views, systems, and content creation tools. There isn't really any content yet. Halfchan agdg has a demo day on Nov 8th, so I'm trying to have something for that. Until then, anon has made some schway music for the game, only one of them is on their soundcloud though:

As for playable versions, I dont want to put up something boring and give a bad first impression, but when I do it'll go on vestigial.itch.io

Barrett Brown's Project PM seems to have been taken down. I say we reboot it.

>What is Project PM?

Project Pm is a collective investigation into the secret world of private intelligence contractors in the form of a crowdsourced thinktank started by Investigative Journalist Barrett Brown.

Archives of their old site as well as their wiki with the information they managed to disseminate can be found here; I recommend seeding them in case they get taken down. This looks like the last source of these files and they'll be incredibly important in the battle against the surveillance state as they're a cache of organized intelligence on hacked emails from this cabal of intelligence contractors that seem to operate completely under the radar of the public eye:

Hello /cyber/!

I come to you today in search of guidance.

There's plenty of INFORMATION on the web about:

* How to program.

* How to configure your router.

* How x protocol works.

And while that's cool 'n all, that's just INFORMATION, fragments info, that you read in x forum or wiki and forget in 3-5 hours.

I propose,we try to LOCATE and ORGANIZE technical books, courses, and instructional videos, in order to facilitate the study of computers and their inner workings.

>why?

what's the point of looking /cyber/ if you don't have the know-how a citizen of the web should have.

>How will it be organized?

i was thinking about using a binary tree.

So can any one recommend, books, pod casts or other material that could be used for self study?

i made a similar thread on lain-chan,and they pointed me to Computer Networks' by Andrew S. Tannenbaum, as a introductory book about computer networks, their technologies, organizations & protocols.

The idea is to make a single thread, asking about content for a specific theme(applied math, networking theory, etc) ONE THEME AT A TIME.Get the entries make a list and post it.Then move to a different subject,we would refine the list over time.

So.. right now we need to decide what THEMES we will need to look at.I Recommend:

History of Computation,History of programing,Applied math,"programing theory"(what's a class?,Programming paradigm?),networking theory,Something about the operational systems we have today.

Any one would recommend additions or changes?

>no replicants

>no flying cars

>no artificial pets (at least ones that look/act convincing)

Blade Runner was made in 1982 and set in 2019, in this period of roughly 40 years, the main tech that has trickled down into the hands of the working man and thus become widespread (accessible) is really just internet based tools like laptops and cell phones.

Cars are only slightly better in safety and performance, mostly they just have cheap tech glued onto them (back-up cams, dvd players, satellite radio, gps touchscreens)

Kitchen tech might be slightly better if you can afford it, but for the working classes it is still electric stoves and refrigerators, the same old thing.

Home tech might be slightly better in the energystar sense, but most working class domiciles have the same stuff they had 40 years ago with the addition of a smart meter.

Home entertainment systems have improved with HD tv's, 8th-gen consoles, and wifi/smart home automation devices (if you are into that sort of thing)

If you are so inclined you might have something like a zoomba vacuum, but most of the working classes (cyberpunk you are here) still have to use the same old vacuum, lawnmowers, washers/dryers they have been for years.

I found myself reflecting on the development of tech in my lifetime, but specifically, that which had trickled down into the hands of the working class. we are a lot closer to Children of Men than we are to Back to the Future 2, or Blade Runner.

ITT discuss the realistic expectations of tech that actually becomes accesable to the working classes in the next 40 years.

Me again, I'm not that optimistic, I work in IT and the current trend is "hardware dont matter" because everything has gone SaaS or cloud, phones are most of the time used as clients with most of the stuff running on a server, even if the phone could actually run that program.

Same with HDDs, I recall some guy from WD saying all people use their products for is to store pirated stuff and porn, and he had a point. And besides more and more people are going into the cloud, SSDs are getting bigger and cheaper, so I guess magnetic disk tech is a dying breed.

What I see now is merely small improvements, all the low-laying fruit like speed and transistor count is gone, theres no longer exponential jumps, the next gen of a chip only happens to be a little faster, a little more energy efficient.

The molecular thing you mention reminds me of other far-future from that age like printable (like literally with an inkjet printer) screens and portable fuel-cells. Basically they never found a way to solve the issues and it all stayed in the lab. You got tons of schway stuff that never makes it out of the lab, like nuclear powered cars.

This is being addressed with MOAR COREZ and the soon-to-arrive 3d stacked design of logic and cache. The stacking will greatly increase IPC. We're hitting a clockspeed wall with silicon, but it won't matter if we can find a way to increase IPC.

For example, a 2.5Ghz Celeron from 2018 will absolutely annihilate a Pentium 4 at 3.5Ghz.

Look for 3D stacking as the next big thing. Moar corez is the hype right now and don't get me wrong, I love additional cores. I think 8c/16t will be the standard for desktop usage soon. Quad cores will be looked at as "entry level" in the next couple years.

It's been over a year since i've messed with a cell phone and never knew much about them anyways. it used to be you could buy a burner for $20 bucks that came with minutes/texts that also didnt expire every 30 days.

does this still exist?

walmart wants 20-30 for a phone and then 40 (with tax) every 30 days just to be able to text.

i am a vpn user that cannot get on: twitter, youtube, skype, periscope etc etc without providing a cell number so they can text me, which is all i need this for. none of the "free sms texting" sites have ever worked for me.

what is the cheapest solution here? a burner for 55 up front then 40/month? or is there some online text service that actually works? all i need is to verify accounts to get on social media sites.

how does cyber go about this?

For a GMail account you can create one without providing a phone number if you're making one from an Android on Settings>Accounts>GMail.

Best way to do this is downloading VPN Hotspot from F-Droid, make sure your phone is connected to the VPN and then access the new Wi-Fi hotspot on one of those phones Walmart (or any other phone stores) keep available to the public for testing, you can use a single phone to make many accounts.

Also there are many paid burner number services that allow you to create as many numbers as you want from their app, https://www.burnerapp.com/ is one of them. Make sure to check the privacy policies tho, or at least use Shelter to use the app on an isolated work profile

How about building a wifi controlled surveillance tank? It has an IP camera that creates a web server so you can control from the internet.

Upload some aircrack tools and drive it around, adding discovered wifi routers to a gps map. Once you have your whole city networked you could build a wifi plane to quickly survey.

…or maybe use a 5g modem instead to keep things legal.

I dig the concept chummer, but it would be a bit of a pain. Better IMO to build an encapsulated drone of some kind that flies. better access to difficult terrain that way as well.

This place introduced me to this show back when the pilot was first posted on youtube, and that thread lasted for years, discussing several seasons and ironically being finally lost back in the April Fools Day hack

I wish this place would've come back earlier as the final season's just about to end, but regardless I figured it'd be nice to try and have some of those comfy times again, if anyone's still around

Adding some context to this, many home internet providers block incoming connections to their customers for "security" reasons. While this does help users who are being attacked by the most simple attacks, the motivation is more likely centralization of information.

>with straight up commune

Nothing stops you, actually, there is homesteading and stuff. Except that communes aren't effective and work without failing on a very small scale.

>the choice is "work or starve" which is not really a choice at all

Homestead, move out, work anywhere different, go to prison(free food, huh), etc. Are these not options for you?

>Work is forced labor. Being forced to do anything means it's against my self interest or, dare I say it, freedom.

<How can i be free in a world where survival requires a certain amount of labor without forcing other people to do it for me?

>Still I don't think "the revolution" is coming around the corner, but I do think it's practical to implement anarchies in small local scales at first.

Local anarchies exist everywhere the force and coercion are not involved, actually. Every time you go out with friends it works the same way as in "anarchy". It is not a leftist, or collectivist concept, as they picture it as a virtue and enforce it the same way different socialists enforce "kindness", "belief in god" or any other idea that "seems good". The revolution can only happen if there is support of people towards it, which is very unlikely, at least in the first world.

>anti-state, anti-money, pseudo-anarchist

They do not have any progress to benefit with using money, they are gatherers and cannot read. You can call ants the same this way. By the time they need a new supply of AKs brouzouf become necessary, and are used. There are also theocratic islamist states, but it is just as anti-money as christians were when they were in power. Same "greed is evil" argument and strong regulatory polices. You tell me how good they did.

>environmental collapse

Not really, with all these green polices it is highly unlikely for a "collapse" to happen. Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>The term libertarian was used by the left a long time

In Europe, perhaps. That doesn't mean that the meaning of libertarianism is written in stone. Words change.

>The "libertarian" right just wants to replace state domination with domination by private cooperations.

Not quite. Libertarians generally advocate for a small government, and some libertarians (call them ancaps) want complete demolition of any central governance, and the replacement of the state with capitalism (which may include corporations).

>And history shows that they ally with fascists every time.

Damn, shit got from 0 to 100 very fast. What you said about fascism is completely, 100% wrong, and I can prove it. I will not do so, unless somebody asks me to. Suffice it to say that fascism is more than Italian Fascism or Nazism. But even if fascism meant Nazism, how do libertarians side with that? You said it yourself that

>The "libertarian" right just wants to replace state domination with domination by private cooperations.

So how can a libertarian side with a totalitarian state that controls every aspect of his life? Your are contradicting yourself.

>The point here is that a socialist system can work for a peaceful pseudo-ethnostate made up of Nordic whites. When the Scandinavian countries have been finally overrun with third world migrants, expect this to change.

I believe so as well. Scandinavians are fucking awesome. They are generally smart, with good social skills, good work ethic, etc. They create nice, clean, secure cities. I think Scandinavians can make any system work, whether that system is socialism or capitalism. So, when people use Scandinavians as an example of a successful socialist state, they are being very dishonest IMO. Scandinavians are a homogeneous people with a lot of wealth (from capitalist activities, and the USA). Stop using it as an example of successful socialism.

>likely be thinner than most bullets.

>Having them tumbling through the air would mean they cause more damage to people and make them less likely to penetrate through a wall and hit someone behind.

Nah. The projectile from a rail pistol carry less kinetic energy than a bullet, and be way less lethal. Having a sharp projectile means its areodynamic, and retains its momemntum (and KE) as it experiences drag, but also makes it more likely to peirce clean through a person - which is the opposite of what you want. You want bullets that bounce around and spread inside people cutting them up. Having them tumbling through the air may cause the dart to simply bounce off a person if its not moving fast enough.

Even a CO2, or rubber based mechanism is probably better than rail gun. If rail were a current viable (with small high capacity batteries available), rail might be a preferred technology, having no moving parts would make an incredibly reliable weapon. But the battery limitations make rail vastly inferior for something like a pistol.

I would take an cross bow any day over a rail pistol (except at point blank range, were fast draw matters, and only one shot will be fired).

>It could be boiling the water as it passes

Assuming there's even enough humidity in the air, what you get is a retro steam rocket. That would slow the bullet and destabilize it. Sounds silly.

Even underwater, it seems odd that there's be enough time, pressure and heat applied to the tip of the projectile without any counter effect on its own velocity. The projectile would be moving so fast that you'd be flash-boiling water ahead of it.

>>54816

So the bullet needs to carry its own heater. :p

Or come out from a railgun so it's super hot.

stopped reading there. i dont even think railguns are viable in any way, ever. but why are you making this statement as if it's absolute categorical fact that a railgun will ALWAYS be less powerful than a conventional powder gun? not even comparing ones of similar size; you straight up have said here that ALL em weapons will ALWAYS be weaker than conventional ones ALL THE TIME, REGARDLESS OF ALL OTHER FACTORS.
