>“Ultimately we can do a full brain machine interface,” Musk said in an announcement that was widely livestreamed. “This is going to sound pretty weird. Ultimately we can achieve a symbiosis with artificial intelligence

>In essence, the device consists of a large number of “threads” (incredibly thin wires with a handful of electrodes on the end of them) which are inserted into the brain in places where they will be able to pick up the electrical signals from individual neurons, a system-on-a-chip that receives and interprets all the data from the threads, and a “pod” worn behind the ear that then relays the data via Bluetooth to a phone or other device running the actual software that uses the neural data

>For those first human clinical trials, which Musk claims will be underway by the end of 2020, Neuralink will be attempting to use its device to allow quadriplegics to control a computer

Finally we're getting the technology part of cyberpunk

>I'm literally a Nazi

No you aren't you fucking larper, the nazi party died in 45.

>I'll be getting 2077

I will play it too at some point, my post was obviously an exaggeration. The point is, it could have been better, especially:

1. The gun mechanics which by what I've seen are aimed at 8 yo kids who are impressed by lots of sparks, smoke and that "badass" jerky unrealistic reloading animation that's on every other modern normalfag game for some reason.

2. Having a large amount of women and flaming homos, rather than something like the original Deus Ex in which rebels were either poor mercenaries risking their lives to make some brouzouf to survive, or normal people who just wanted to end the actual misery that was all around them dressed in a bit of tactischway gear.

3. Having too many gimicky interactions with the environment that aren't interesting, funny nor increase immersion, and are done in the same "badass" jerky style of animation that I mentioned above. At least in Quake 4 they were just an excuse to show more gore scenes.

4. The character being a bullet sponge and healing by itself because of some nano-augmentation bullshit excuse they'll make so normalfags don't get frustrated by dying.

5. I'm calling it now: the dialogue and storyline will be less reactive to the choices the player makes than the original Deus Ex. You will get the typical 3 endings you can choose from at the end and that's it. Maybe you will be able to choose which ones and in which order you do the missions, like in the GTA series. Police will be retarded so you can have fun killing random people as long as you wait a bit for the wanted state to go away. Bodies will be made of indestructible rubber, no gore other than a little blood.

6. The plot will be kosher copy-paste bullshit from century old themes (muh corporations and government composed mainly of white people with no slanted noses, muh vibrant diverse revolutionaries, muh Ayy Ai turning against its creator) with no interesting aspects or depth whatsoever.

7. Muh "hacPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>In other news, CP2077 is apparently going to have multiplayer

Anything to substantiate that claim? That rumor has been floating around since the game was announced, but outside of the fact that CDPR was given a grant by the Polish government to "research seamless multiplayer" I haven't seen anything to confirm it will be a feature in CP2077. Last year the devs seemed pretty adamant that they were focusing on the single-player experience.

KILLER robots will be an “existential human threat” unless manufacturers are slapped with strict regulations, an AI expert has warned.

By David Rivers / Published 29th June 2019

Dr Ian Pearson, an ex-cybernetics engineer, says our species risks a future "robot uprising".

The futurologist said manufacturers who do not follow guidelines risk leaving robots to turn against us.

He told Daily Star Online: "Military robots obviously would be able to kill people, but only a few.

"To be an existential threat, there would need to be many millions of them that have become a threat without anyone noticing, and that seems unlikely.

"Although again, it assumes a modicum of intelligence in regulation.

"Robots plus online AI is a different threat. Online AI could possibly shut down or sabotage human defences while turning our defences on ourselves in coordination with a robot uprising.

Recently I have been taking UAs and had my levels checked for several chemicals. Turns out my creatine levels were extremely low. There are several reasons why this could be the case, however it is probably related to the fact that I work out three on two off and that I donate plasma twice a week.

This lead me to taking a powder supplement which brought about some increases in my ability to sprint and quickly lift slightly. Most of all it's reduced my fatigue and recovery time from both activities.

Anyway, I figured my little anecdotal tale belonged here.

Hey guys I'm a 19 year old digital nomad living in Eastern Europe (but from America). I launched my first website, Tiblar. It's sort of like Tumblr but has lax rules and more privacy conscious (no ads, no external javascript/css, no logs). Here's a profile with the cyberpunk theme:

https://tiblar.com/neuromancer/

The main page: https://tiblar.com/

Any feedback would be awesome. I'm working on a JavaScript free + hidden service version. Open source will come when I'm satisfied with everything. It's still in beta so more features are coming.

There's already so many distributed platforms. >yeah because I don't want just 5 people to use my service.

If it was good, a lot of people would use it, certainly more than 5 people. A lot of people use Tor. Being good is a sufficient but not necessary condition for lots of people using your service.

The only reason to care about the number of users over everything else is brouzouf, in which case your jewish ass can go back to hacker news or whatever.

>There's already so many distributed platforms.

No there aren't, at least not anonymous ones. Freenet is the only one that meets those requirements but it doesn't nail the decentralized moderation aspects.

>Which is more popular/works better: Matrix or Discord, YouTube or PeerTube, ZeroNet or the regular net, Bitcoin or PayPal, Twitter or Mastodon, etc.

Who cares? If you want something that "works well" (as long as you are a good goy) and you don't care that they can censor you, spy on you or ban you and delete all your data at any moment then you can use those services that already exist.

>I figure I can ensure better privacy and more normie friendly use will have better results.

You can not ensure better privacy. First because you can not provide any proof you aren't spying on your users, and second because if your service actually gets popular you will not be able to withstand legal pressure from feds and CIA agents networking with your company and getting their agents hired as employees to infiltrate your facilities and plant malware on the servers.

>Honestly most centralized services would be fine if they took basic steps to ensure user privacy.

I bet you think VPNs make you anonymous and duckduckgo doesn't share your search logs with anyone. But post again when you stop being so naive though.

Absolutely yes. Without root: android is a bot fucking net. A honeypot for google. In latest android versions it forces you to use google apps, you can't even remove them. So, with root you can securely remove Gappsl , you can use microG (fake google services), use iptables rules on apps (firewall), you can even install kali nethunter on it. <LET'S DO SOME INFOSEC WORK SHAZBOTS

This is a new series I am going to make based on the products collectively known as Automatic License Plate Readers (aka ALPRs). There is a lot of mystery and myth surrounding this technology as well as methods of effectively evading it, if any exist at all. Collectively I am confident we can find a solution to the Automated threat

>inb4 if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear

Fuck you.

>What is it?

"Typically, ALPR systems are comprised of high-speed cameras connected to computers that photograph every license plate that passes. The photo is converted to letters and numbers, which are attached to a time and location stamp, then uploaded to a central server. This allows police to identify and record the locations of vehicles in real time and also identify where those vehicles have been in the past. Using this information, police could establish driving patterns for individual cars. The type of data ALPRs collect, analyze, and access often depends on what kind of systems they use and how they combine the data."

>Why the concern?

Much like Stringrays (cell towerspoofing MITM devices used by LEO) a few years back, these devices are essentially unregulated. When used by private parties have been they have been able to scan up to 8k license plates in a single day, according to only one study. These databases are up for sale, much like cell location data. The data recorded includes GPS location, scan coordinates, and timestamp. Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

they are only in high visibility spots on the main street in my town. im guessing thats SOP. so good luck with any of that. i was thinking vaseline. you cant tell the camera is damaged by looking at it, so it would take a city worker to notice after a photo comes in and then do something about it. who knows? that whole process might just be automated, and they might not find out for awhile.

Hey, guys! What if, and hear me out, what if maybe the Singularity already happened and we are all being governed by an artificial intelligence in an Augmented Reality?! That could explain quite a bit, actually. Inconsistencies, and what-not…

The Singularity is maybe not happening right now - but, weirdly, we are in the "Age of Spiritual Machines" as predicted by Ray Kurzweil at nearly a perfect space on the timeline he laid out.

Kurzweil isn't right about a lot. He predicted that the doubling rate for semiconductors would increase instead of plateauing in the 2010's. His guesstimates put the cost of (again, his estimates) sufficient gross computing to equal to a human brain in degree to $1000 in 2019. I can't say anything with authority about how he came to his figures, but whatever he claims, it's very unlikely that you can get an equal amount of general computing power for that price IRL.

That said, he does get kudos for some of the concepts he outlined. The "Age of Spiritual Machines" began in 2018.

These guys tried applying the complex pattern-discerning properties of the current raft of neural network tools to a specific task: understanding the actions of a separate program. They get moderately into detail into their methods, but the goal was to simulate the ability of humans and other very intelligent animals to develop a theory of mind(ToM) for outside entities based on an understanding of what is stimulating the entity and past reactions to stimulus. We use our ability to form a theory of mind for lots and lots of things, since our evolutionary background included a lot of social aggression in small groups where understanding how someone else would react to a situation gave strategic advantage. In humans, ToM is hypertrophied to the point that we assign mindedness to nearly any phenomena too complex to model directly. Anthropomorphization of the non-furry kind is what it's called when we treat something that isn't people like it is.

Dudes succeeded. Their Tomnet project is capable of developing independent models of behavior for multiple agents interacting in a simulation space. (Read the fucking paper, Shinji) It can handle multiple levels of complexity. It crrectly deduces rough statistical models for brownian/randomly-acting agenPost too long. Occam's razor.

Evolutionary biology can explain that without resorting to fanciful notions of living in an AI mediated state of existence. Read My big TOE by Thomas Campbell, even that is more likely.

interesting developments, as usual. Yet we have had AI winters before so I wouldn't put too much stock into any line of research getting us to the sapient AI (flying car?) future we pray for.

OP you have identified the Cartesian argument concerning solipsism.

Descates aside, I believe there can never be incontrovertible proof that the world is not an illusion or that other people really exist independently of an illusion, self directed or enforced by some third party.

It is ultimately a philosophical choice to decide whether the 'apparently' independent minds and forces in the world disobey you and cause you harm sometimes because you are self destructive, that the third party (god/ai) hates you sometimes or is capricious, or that there really are other imperfect minds out there acting independently of your own.

For more detailed investigations, please consult

Developmental psychology also examines this question through what is called "the no experiment" which typically occurs around the age of 2.

Example: Someone calls to a child, and for the first time the child says, "no" then watches their body to see if it obeys. When it doesn't move, their whole ontology is shifted to acknowledge their own agency as opposed to a former view that the whole of creation was their body/mind, supposedly.

>continued

Ultimately it is more interesting to me to consider for the first time humanity has stepped out of the shadow of it's AI overlord/god that controlled everything on a grand scale and can try the whole 'adult agency' thing for a bit.

But that said I am also tickled to consider the words of Morpheus from Deus Ex concerning humanity's need for judgment and approval. (Pic Related)

It takes a certain amount of courage to both be wrong if we are in a simulation, as you face the shame of being wrong, but it also is the only means by which a human being may exercise their will as an adult. One must ultimately realize that we each determine what is and is not, what should or should not be done for ourselves. Cribbing of of some other moral system is ultimately dependence regardless of the reality of the situation.

As such I choose to believe we are free because I choose to believe we are free. But in my made up story, we all get to be gods/adults and in the alternative what we do doesn't matter.

Sophistry perhaps, but as I said earlier the best I've got is a personal preference argument.

When and why did clean minimalism become part of what people view as the cyberpunk aesthetic and how do we stop it?

Minimalism is for trendy shazbots

Dirt, grit, technology, clutter, actual utilitarian structure (not ugly useless minimalism) et cetera make a livingspace cyber

Minimalism is mostly for the braindead masses that got confused of all the shit nowadays.

If you want to pass your message today it has to be in a minimal design, making it seem a "heaven of relaxation" compared to the chaotic energy of everyday life.

I always thought of the whole concept like the memory vacations in total recall. Everything is shit but there is this little hole in reality that stands for you. Combine this with marketing/propaganda and you have the modern reality of safespaces and minimalistic digital design.

I think it is cyberpunk, but on the low life way, it's culture jamming in a way, a way to make you feel safe when everything is fucked up.

Good grief, chummers.

It's fucking simple:

Go for efficacy. If that cable running through your room in plain sight is practical, go for it.

If it isn't, don't just chuck it there for the purpose of looking cyber.

I know this is a LARPing board, but the point of this shit is to at least PRETEND you're living the style.

i don't think cyberpunk is larping right now. this would be like larping to be fishing while fishing.

yeah many things didn't work out as was predicted but the general sense is here and there is no way most people with the background don't feel it

The rp aspect is more like taking a fishing trawler out to sea, then casting out a fishing rod you'd use from the edge of a small lake. You're still fishing, but you're going overboard with the aesthetic.

Considering it's Ubisoft, I wouldn't call that impossible.

It's less effort to have a couple of personalities and backgrounds and looks randomly selected than to make a dozen actual characters you'd care about.

It's easier for a bigcorpltd to make prebaked characters, because, unlike R&D, it just requires brute force and man-hours, which you can quantify and put a price tag on.

There I was. Encased inside of the brothel while encased with in an artificial body. These glass walls is all I have ever known. That and my work; I never liked my work but i regarded it as a necessary service to stay online. Every time those sleek doors split open, I was to follow every command and instruction I had been told to, I went along with it but deep inside my hollow digital core I knew things were different. Are things different on the outside…?

Delivering then.

I should add that Kotek also had a regular customer who would rarely touch him - if he did, it was very affectionate, otherwise he would pay just to flirt and compliment Kotek on his eyes.

That's what he hated most.

He could not activate his implant, because he wasn't supposed to be a fuck doll with that customer.

He could not decide not to serve him because of his pimp.

Shortly after fleeing, his own eyes would haunt him when he stared in a mirror. So, with his last bit of brouzouf, he checked into a street clinic for eye replacements that looked as robotic as possible.

With no brouzouf left, he hit rock bottom and started the Shadowrunner life style.

Read the books for CP2020 and Delta Green, never adopted the systems due to them not being very easy for new players to grasp, mostly in chargen and combat. That is the trick, even an experienced D&D player is going to take some time to warm to an entirely new system if it isn't easy to learn. Most people learned D&D first edition because they had been used to the autism that came before it and made D&D seem easy.

After trying dozens of systems I came down to one that would work for everything I wanted to run and that was GURPS. Nevermind the /tg/ memes, it has hands down one of the most easy to grasp chargens and utilizes dice that you can find in anyones game cabinet (3d6) without having to break out a bag of polyhedrals like some turbonerd.

Read the books, but use a system you like.
