I'm tired of having so much bloat on my phone. I am thinking of rooting, and like the idea of having better control of my phone. Is it worth the risk? If so, anyone care to explain how I can do so? All the tutorials I've seen want me to install cancerware.

is your phone from verizon or at&t and past android 4.4.4? if so, your bootloader is locked and you cant root it. now if youre on a different network like tmobile or something, you can root it then.

If you want to use advanced features or there are some applications that require root that you want to use (one I consider a must have is Titanium Backup, which requires root). Be careful because it can be easy to brick your device if you're not careful. You need to make sure that you're using a method for that specific device. If your device has good rooting support (basically most popular devices) then it is usually pretty safe. It's also a good and fun opportunity to learn how to use adb.

Rooting is such a shitload of fuck. You either have to follow a convoluted 30 step tutorial that may or may not brick your phone if you make a mistake, or you have to trust some random program. Just to do something that should be a basic, common sense feature for a computer.

I might as well ask in this thread.
I was gifted a Samsung J5 2016 version, and I want to root it.
Is it really necessary to install some special software to root it? I think it's called Odin or something like that.
Where can I find some good tutorials to root this phone?

Rooting is super easy if you get the right phone, mine seriously had an app that you just click a touchpad button and it was rooted.
My tablet on the other hand can't be rooted, and it sucks because i can't use the sd card with it, despite having an slot for it. It's stupid.

OP here, I have AT&T, and I have given up trying to root. I'm gonna just use it for work only until I can get one that can be easily rooted.

This exactly phone https://www.amazon.com/LG-Optimus-D415-Smartphone-T-Mobile/dp/B00KEZ88BE running android 5.0.2 For some reason this was easier to root while my tablet (that's 4.4.4) was not possible to root.
The battery life is really bad though, once you set all of the battery saving setting it's usable but i wouldn't recommend it.

It's honestly not that fucking hard to root a phone and there is barely any risk to it.
Just following any tutorial for your phone and you'll be fine.

Rooting is a security risk, bricking is the least of your concerns.
Installing su daemon that is backdoored or some backdoored superSU app or bugs that allow applications to become root without asking.
This all happens and isn't hard to do hence the reason why Android doesn't ship su standard it's dangerous.

What are you saying ? Google doesn't give you administrative access to your device because they couldn't ship a non-backdoor 'd su ? Thats ridiculous.

I have an Acer Iconia A500 , a first gen android tablet that I am only still able to use because I rooted it years ago. I have root, and so I can doschway shit like remove gapps, use the xprivacy framework, and run metasploit. The downside is I am using untrusted android roms from china and there is no reproducible builds etc. So obviously its not a trusted device for me, and I don't keep personal info on the device. Rooting can pro-long the life of your device, at the expense of potentially having untrusted roms.

Absolutely yes. Without root: android is a bot fucking net. A honeypot for google. In latest android versions it forces you to use google apps, you can't even remove them. So, with root you can securely remove Gappsl , you can use microG (fake google services), use iptables rules on apps (firewall), you can even install kali nethunter on it. Some autists here saying "don't use smart phone" which is nothing but cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

These guys aren't complete retards and it shows.
Ofc rooting is ideal.
What would be really schway is if you FOUND a root exploit on a yet to be exploited phone. Rn I'm working on the ZTE Blade Spark z971
a cheap little 100$ phone that has a fingerprint reader. I have a few laying around for reasons.
