The trailer looks good for what it is. Mike Pondsmith talked about why they decided to make the trailer so 'bright', basically saying 'We know we can do night/rain/neon, but to make a real city believable, you have to be able to make it gritty on a nice day'.

Also, to all you fucking whiny bitches complaining 'It's all style over substance', remember when the Cyberpunk 2020 rulebook laid out the main rules of Cyberpunk, and the FIRST RULE was 'Style over Substance'.

If you want a movement, stop trying to base it on sci-fi and video games.

The graphics in this trailer are slightly worse than DX:MD, and that game came out two years ago. This is what happens when they take this long to develop a game. By the time of release, the graphics are already outdated. If gameplay is good, it can still be a great game though.

How can you judge a game that only has a pre-rendered trailer out? William Gibson (yes that William Gibson) said it looks like a reskinned gta but to be honest cyberpunk gta5 would be fucking awesome, even though I don't think it will be like that.

Gibson hasn't been relevant since he wrote All Tomorrow's Parties in 1999. The dude has no idea what's going on in the post-9/11 era and has had serious trouble keeping up with the movement over the past 15-20 years. His writing has gotten really shitty and he spends all of his time bitching about white people on Twitter. Why the fuck would you care about anything he says anymore?

I will have to agree with you on that, but, keep in mind that it's better to make a believable graphic performance than have a "Ubisoft Effect" later. That is, delivering a product of lower quality than you expected.

Also, DX:MD as far as I can tell is not physics heavy, which probably allows for the nicer visuals. And the art team for DX is awesome, so, even if you played it on lower specs, it would still look amazing.

>>50687

I know it's dumb, but the trailer looked to… bright? There were too many shots of daytime, not enough night or rain, or the pinnacle rainy nights. Very little smog and it seemed too post-apocalyptic, like it was aping fallout 4 or something.

That being said, you can't really judge it due to lack of gameplay, but if it doesn't have a button that makes it always rainy and night, I might not buy it. I did like the cyber hillbilly though, it's like they're addressing the whole rural cyberpunk thing, and it the daytime isn't so grating there.

From a gameplay perspective, I'd rather have a dynamic day/night cycle, than have it permanent night. Its just more akin to a simulated cyber world, rather than a stage play. If that means I have to RP my character staying up all night to see the morning, so be it.

Honestly, buy the main 2020 book and just read through it. The actual mechanics are ancient and clunky, and a lot of the tech is laughably out of date.

However, the world that the book presents is by far the best Cyberpunk RPG world ever created. The sourcebook presents you with characters, short stories, and incredible art that makes night city feel like a real place, with real people. It's a place you want to go, and people you want to interact with.

They only started to seriously work on it after they were done with the last Witcher 3 expansions, so probably year and the half to two years at this point. CDPR also has less employees than most AAA studios and publishers.

You also must consider that the game is supposed to be a city composed of large hubs and include shit like driving and vehicular combat. New Deus Ex games were pretty small, and I do not think that either one of them had non-stationary cars in it.

i kinda agree, it looks more like some edgy children's playground, rather than a world where people strive to survive. Everyone is just smug and edgy, and nice weather does not help building the atmosphere of fear and despair, as well as large open spaces very different from dark narrow alleys. I still think that it is the trailer that failed, while the game might be somewhat good, it is based on a tabletop game after all.

It should not be worse than watch dogs 2, which was lame, but still had some fun in it.

Well, i prefer my playgrounds believable, which is not the case when any other character is more excited in senseless massacre than you. They seem flat and lacking motivation, which is very bad for an rpg.

>>50830

Sure. Complain that it doesn't look believable. Complain that the story seems to separate the protagonist too much from the wold they inhabit. Fine. Those are reasonable criticisms, albeit perhaps a bit premature.

But when you complain that a game looks like it's 'for kids'? Sure, this is primarily aimed for adults, but I don't think anyone wants to play a 'real' cyberpunk game, where you work your shift in the company compound before going back to the coffin cages to eat slop and sleep before your next 18hr shift.

Shit, people are trying to escape a depressing reality, not find a more depressing reality to wallow in.

Seems like you missed my point, i meant to say that the ingame characters look childish and in a stupid and edgy way. I'm totally fine with idealistic and naive and positive games and world, as long as they entertain me. Hell, one of my favorite games is VA-11 HALL-A, which is in no way "gloomy" or "edgy".

My point is, a great game can be childish, but then it should not present itself as a serious one, and vice versa. Borderlands or doom are fun, they present themselves this way, and are built around it. If a game is making a serious story, with dramatic storytelling and stuff, and then most characters look and act like they are making fun of it, it really breaks immersion, while leaving a lot less fun than the games that are built around it.

I just don't think it's presenting it's self as 'serious'. Cyberpunk is often intentionally exaggerated to the point of being ridiculous.

The trailer does not seem hilarious enough for me, with all the attention to social issues, as well the first trailer, which seemed to put a lot more effort into the atmosphere presented.

I felt like it was dystopian, just in a cartoonish sort of way. But, being a video game for edgy teenagers, and the source being an RPG for edgy teenagers, it's pretty much exactly what I expected, and wanted.

I cringe when Deus Ex takes its self so seriously. It's a silly premise, with a silly hard-man protagonist, giving kids a fantasy they can imagine they'll grow into, even though deep down they know they never will.

Cyberpunk 2077 looks like it's taking a different direction by admitting that it's silly and cartoony, and trying to just be fun and entertaining. At my age, I can't take the melodrama of the edgelord sad-ass cyberpunk bullshit.

 No.50852

Not necessary, it's more about the whole mood and atmosphere of a fiction.

>>50849

Oh, then it's my fault, i guess. I just thought of it as a more of VTM:BL analog, while it seems to be just the maklavian part.

I still do not like how they presented characters here, though. They are too smug, as if they are trying to look cool, while not really being that way. To be cool without some conflict and story is to be a hilarious, 4th wall breaking bastard DOOMRIDER! NA NA NA NA.

They do none of that, as they seem to mix these two genres, while advancing in none. It's more of a choice between immersion and hilarity, and it does not seem crazy enough to not be bland, lacking anything special and memorable about it. Mind you, i'm not talking about the whole mood of the story, just the world-building aspect. DnD has a lot of fun stuff in it, but anything game-breaking and senseless from world perspective is generally a loophole and an exception. It;s up to players how to view a game, but it is to devs how to present it. Trying to merge fun and seriousness generally results in a bland and generic game.

Hope i got it somewhat understandable for anyone other than me.

Literally all they have developed has been The Witcher series, which is pretty much universally acclaimed. It really shines when it comes to storytelling, and the first two games were fantastic roleplay experiences. The third one not so much. TW2 & 3 were absolutely gorgeous games by my standards.

On the worrying side, for one, this is the first time CDPR has ever produced a first-person experience, the first time they have ever worked with gunplay, and the first time they have done something outside of a fantasy universe. It's a lot of firsts for them. But given their track record I have a lot of faith they will deliver.

The Witcher series was beautiful and captivating. The settings, stories, and characters are all some of the most gripping I've ever experienced. Roleplaying in a narrative sense was a huge draw to the first two games, with the third being a more straightforward experience in terms of the plot. Outside the main questline you were welcome to play your character as you please, but by TW3 the main character's background and motivation had been totally established. There was little room for you to express yourself there. Similarly, combat was basically sword fighting with maybe a little bit of magical flair. However, on the plus side, TW3 was the first time they had created a complete open world and I'd say they got it pretty right.

I have no doubt that 2077 will be a stellar game. It will be engaging, immersive, beautiful and competent. Whether it will be a perfect game depends on how CDPR has tackled the fresh challenges in terms of game design that the new setting presents. More than anything, it depends on just how much freedom they allow with your character and their story.

Out of the 8 characters, only 1 is a white man. Then there are 4 white women, two black men and the token chink. And the white guy is the smallest characters of the two, which suggest the woman is the important character and the guy is just a sidekick. And while the other people are shown in self-confident, expressive poses and clothes, the white guy is faceless and wearing a dull uniform for some kind of private security force, suggesting he's just a pawn for some evil corporation rather than a member of the elite like the woman seems to be, or one of the characters rebelling against the evil regime in the other pictures.

>no one discusses what actual gameplay genre it is

the first alone is enough to make me not want it (why would I buy something that no one can even tell me what it is or why I would want it?) but that it's being used for neo-shit-lib/alt-right pandering all the time tells me that whatever the hell kind of game it is, it certainly can't stand on its own merits and needs political shit-stirring to prop it up

but seriously, is 2077 gonna be a tactics game? an fps? strategy? a straight-up CRPG? at least ShadowRun Returns made it clear that it's an xcom-wannabe tactics game. same for Invisible Inc. Deus Ex games are clearly marketed as FPS games. what the fuck is 2077 gonna be?

2. Having a large amount of women and flaming homos, rather than something like the original Deus Ex in which rebels were either poor mercenaries risking their lives to make some brouzouf to survive, or normal people who just wanted to end the actual misery that was all around them dressed in a bit of tactischway gear.

3. Having too many gimicky interactions with the environment that aren't interesting, funny nor increase immersion, and are done in the same "badass" jerky style of animation that I mentioned above. At least in Quake 4 they were just an excuse to show more gore scenes.

4. The character being a bullet sponge and healing by itself because of some nano-augmentation bullshit excuse they'll make so normalfags don't get frustrated by dying.

5. I'm calling it now: the dialogue and storyline will be less reactive to the choices the player makes than the original Deus Ex. You will get the typical 3 endings you can choose from at the end and that's it. Maybe you will be able to choose which ones and in which order you do the missions, like in the GTA series. Police will be retarded so you can have fun killing random people as long as you wait a bit for the wanted state to go away. Bodies will be made of indestructible rubber, no gore other than a little blood.

6. The plot will be kosher copy-paste bullshit from century old themes (muh corporations and government composed mainly of white people with no slanted noses, muh vibrant diverse revolutionaries, muh Ayy Ai turning against its creator) with no interesting aspects or depth whatsoever.

7. Muh "hackers", "augs" and "the net" with no understanding of how the underlying tech is supposed to work by the liberal arts writers who created the plot and the dialogue. Maybe they'll name drop some "fiber optics link" once or twice.

It'll be GTA combined with Call of Duty with some RPG elements on a sci-fi setting.

To be fair companies milking your shekels using addictive VR worlds which also spy on you but are then reverse engineered, cracked and distributed on the net by shady individuals and organizations that have their servers and addresses regularly raided and confiscated by feds and also add their own code to ask a ransom for the user's data or abuse the user's computational resources to acquire decentralized virtual tokens which are used mainly as a currency to trade derezzed drugs, porn and hire hitmen while also being a get rich quick scheme sounds pretty damn cyberpunk.

>In other news, CP2077 is apparently going to have multiplayer

Anything to substantiate that claim? That rumor has been floating around since the game was announced, but outside of the fact that CDPR was given a grant by the Polish government to "research seamless multiplayer" I haven't seen anything to confirm it will be a feature in CP2077. Last year the devs seemed pretty adamant that they were focusing on the single-player experience.

>but that it's being used for neo-shit-lib/alt-right pandering all the time

I've yet to see it used for any sort of "alt-right pandering".

>what the fuck is 2077 gonna be?

If you don't know the answer to this question then you haven't been paying attention. For fuck's sake they released a 45-minute gameplay video last year.

Can't speak to the American version, but I know of at least one court case against the German NPD that was thrown out because too large of a percentage of the party leadership was comprised of undercover agents from various agencies.
