-Gladiator Bartz, previously mastered Knight & Mystic Knight

-Black Mage Lenna, previously mastered White Mage

-Samurai Krile, previously mastered Chemist, Monk and Berserker

-Dragoon Feris, previously mastered Thief & Ninja

And everyone's mastered Blue Mage, because that makes learning Blue Magic far less of a headache.

First off, consider getting the Mod Of Balance Hack. Makes magic leveling more balanced.

Here's some other strats:

-Have Minwu cast Shell+Wall+Protect+Barrier in pretty much every battle in the Unknown Palace. The first two increase your Mag Def, the third ups your Phys Def, the last ups your Spec Def. Enemies there LOVE to cast Lv8 spells like Death and Curse against the whole party. And for anyone who might be confused, levels of spells aren't like FFV, where any character whose level is a multiple will be affected. Here, spell level just means how powerful it is/likely it is to connect. A Level VIII Death spell can mean a instant Game Over if you've not cast Shell+Wall, and even then, a character might die.

-In battles with 'easier' enemies, constantly use spells; the aforementioned Shell+Wall+Barrier+Protect, and also Cure, Life and Esuna. In Soul Of Rebirth, you simply can't afford for Minwu to spend four turns removing status ailments through single-target casts of Esuna. The monsters will just cast those ailments again, faster than you can clear them, and you can quickly find yourself in an unwinnable situation. You need to train up Esuna so it can reliably clear all four characters of ailments in one cast.

I think it might have to do with fact they all were 2d, and the designs were great, then 3d came which changed a lot, I mean in 2d you see what you see and imagine rest of it, it kinda works like how it's in illustrated books, you see the good bits and then the other things are left to brain's imagination, same can't be said about 3d, as same feel can't be given with 3d fighters, now on the other hand 3d fighters can be good too, I mean tekken was pretty cool, but it just . . . Does not gives the same feel 2D game do.

Scariest and greatest? Subjectively, not for me but I did enjoy it all the same. It was nice to finally get the payoff on the Walter Sullivan lore from SH2, in the form of a twisted, evil Kurt Cobain look-alike. And yes, I took the Shabby Doll and put it into my item chest during my first playthrough. Never. Again.

In 2017, as far as being user friendly goes, probably Kega Fusion (Even though it hasn't been updated since 2010). Although Genesis Plus GX is easily the most accurate and has surpassed Kega Fusion, but unfortunately is Libretro exclusive, which means you can either use RetroArch (which is fucking terrible), or BizHawk (which isn't too bad, though if softpatching games is supported, I'd love to know!). Somebody seriously needs to port Genesis Plus GX to Windows instead of having to deal with Libretro bullshit.

I might as well give you a rundown of the other emulators too.

Regen: Older than Kega Fusion, hasn't been updated since 2009, buggy as fuck.

Exodus: Needs a super computer to run (very very slow), really more of an experiment and/or proof of concept than anything else, which is a damn shame.

BlastEm: Aiming to be as accurate as Exodus but without needing said supercomputer, this emulator could be pretty good in a few years time, but my god is the latest version fucking terrible thanks to its rudimentary GUI, I think it was originally Linux only, which might explain alot, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Either way, this one needs more time, definitely not ready for end user consumption just yet.

So yeah, just use Kega Fusion, it hasn't seen an update in years, might have some issues with newer OS, but it still fucking works and works well. Who knows, maybe Genesis Plus GX will be ported to Windows at some point, or maybe the abforementioned emulators will get some much needed updates, just gonna have to wait and see, but definitely stick with Kega for now. BizHawk is admittedly a neat emulator in its own right, even if it is mostly geared towards TAS speedruns…

So the Soul Blazer series is loosely connected by the story and gameplay but over the multiple playthroughs I've done I haven't been able to determine the order of events and I want to do a chronological playthrough of the trilogy to finally get the full story in order.

I know for sure that Soul Blazer comes before Illusion of Gaia as shown in the second pic where Will is confronting the first boss from Soul Blazer and the boss references the protagonist from Soul Blazer had already defeated him long ago. the question is where does Terranigma fall in the timeline.

There's a local auction by me by a liquidation company because a business that rented out and owned a large amount of arcade machines. Most of the things listed in the auction are for arcade PCBs. I don't want to see these things end up in the dump because a lot of them are irreplaceable relics. A lot of local collectors are swooping in on it and bidding up all two working machines in the auction (gunbird, and a rolling thunder cocktail). Is it a bad idea to bid on about 100 bucks on arcade PCBs? Would I ever get any decent trades for them?

I'm also pretty hyped to get my hands on this control panel. It comes with two cores for the internals of the cabinet. I'm mostly excited about this one because whenever I got a chance to play it, it was always set to something like a dollar a play and ate through quarters like mad so I never got a chance to beat it.

I have a question for anyone who owns an arcade cabinet; is this a huge mistake and a future money hole?

I did it for anyone who read the thread, I am the proud owner of a third strike cart and a cps3 motherboard. I ended up going with that because the parts for it are still being sold/traded on a still alive videogame forum of dedicated neckbeards. I think I'm going to end up selling it so not only I make some money off of it, but it gets into the hands of someone with the technical skill to restore it.

Good luck with finding someone to do any electronic repairs. There's fuck all for jobs in the US for electronic engineers, and I've been working for a fucking phone company wrangling retards for almost a decade. In that time, all I've done for EE was modify a couple consoles. Still, congratulations. Maybe scrounge around some coin-op forums for advice on restoring everything? They're generally pretty friendly and helpful people around those places.

I found that most of the stuff I'm missing on the main board for the cps3 is computer standard stuff like a specific CD ROM drive that goes for 10 to 20 bucks on eBay but I also found out that the cps3 I have is worth at least twice what I paid for the the entire lot just because of it's difficult to replace proprietary parts alone. I think I'm going to sell it on that forum but now I'm stuck with the issue of wether I should sell it as is or cobble some shit together for it and test it in order to get a better return on my money. It seems like a bad idea to keep a hold of it because there's mobs of people who would be excited to restore it instead of it just sitting on my shelf on the off chance I actually get my hands on a 6 button arcade cabinet.

I collect cheat devices, and I have a Game Genie for NES, SNES, Genesis, and Game Gear, as well as an Action Replay of some sort for Saturn, PSX, and Game Boy. I also collect link cables and multiplayer/multitap-type devices, despite nobody ever wanting to play multiplayer games, even on the goddamn internet.

Been wanting to give Secret of Mana and SD3 a go on co-op but my friend never leaves his house (ergo, I can't get him to come here) and isn't interested in modding his Wii to be able to emulate stuff like that.

If you like JRPGs, I've found Tales of Eternia ("Tales of Destiny II" in NA) fun to co-op, and it's helped by the facts that, unlike Tales of Destiny PS1 or Tales of Phantasia PS1, combat feels more fast paced and fluid than before, and the co-op functionality is tied to a key item you can get after maybe thirty minutes to an hour (perhaps less, been a while since I played; it's at the dojo close to where the game starts) instead of having to hunt down particular accessories that eat an equip slot (and in ToP's case, there's a reason Phantasian Production's translation patch comes with a hacked in Technical Ring, as the first one you can get is like 8-10 hours in). Co-op camera's still got some issues at that point, but if it's just two people playing as Reid and Farah (casters aren't quite fun to actually play as that early in the series), you can generally keep the camera focused on them since unless you're attacked from both sides of the screen, chances are both characters will be in the vicinity of each other anyhow.

Not sure if you can co-op it via internet though; and in general it strikes me that it would be more enjoyable to couch co-op anyhow.

I need some help lads. I've been trying my hand at text editing certain games for translation/curiosity. I decided to tackle this game first because I couldn't find anything about any undergoing effort to translate this. While making a table for this was simple enough, I simply cannot insert english character tileset into this as I can't even find the japanese characters in any tile viewer for the ROM.

I am only familiar with NES tile editing so I do not know of any compression this game might have. Could anyone more familiar with Gameboy rom hacking take a look at this game's tileset and tell me what the fuck is going on in there?

The only one I played and beat from the Ultima series was Exodus Ultima, it had to be one of the most difficult RPG's which was released on the NES series. This series was to my knowledge the first generation of role playing games created by created by Richard Garriott, a.k.a. Lord British.

I don't remember it being that hard. Not as hard as trying to get Ultima 9 to run at a playable framerate, Jesus. But learning to get games to run was the whole reason I ever got good at computers in general. Stupid IRQ settings.

Plus, these days GOG makes it super easy.

It still ran like shit last time I bothered to try, on something like Palomino or Thunderbird with at least 128 MB RAM etc. That's an achievement in and of itself, how badly it is written.
