Figured I would ask here as opposed to /v/ as this is sort of a retro question.

I picked up the 8bit Music Power and I'm trying to play it on my famicom, but having no luck getting it to start up. Has anyone else happened to buy this game too and has gotten it to work? Or could I just be stuck with a fancy piece of plastic?

Didn't even know this existed until now, but the store pages on Play-Asia and Amazon have disclaimers in japanese saying it doesn't work on all FC consoles (official or compatible).

Yeah, I saw those before getting it. But just hoped that was more a "warning" that in a very rare chance it might not work. So I guess I may be out of luck then. Unless I could find a cheap converter that may actually be able to play it.

Hey /vr/. My SEGA CD keeps having issues reading discs, to the point it'll manage to read one, play for a bit, then be unable to read anything until it's turned off for like 20 minutes.

Anyone know what the issue could be?

Does the Sega CD need laser calibration over time? What kind of discs are you reading? Burned discs need to be burned in a slow speed since the Sega CD only reads in 1x.

Both. Legit copy of Sonic CD reads and can be played, then hangs and disc can't be read again. Exact same with burnt. They both work fine after 20-30 mins again.

Hey /vr/, I was looking to building myself an emulation machine

I was planning on running Arcades and consoles at least up to gen 5

Would a raspberry pi be enough?

Should I just salvage a "old" laptop/pc?

What do /vr/?

That GPU is probably overkill. For emulators you want the fastest possible Intel cpu you can afford. And then you probably want to overclock it.

The Wii is the best cheap option to play on a CRT. You get to also play Gamecube and Wii games on it.

A good option would be setting up Lakka (Retroarch as an OS, basically) on a ODROID -C1. The thing is cheap (37 dollars, but you have to buy an SD Card for the OS, and Wi-fi/Bluetooth USB dongles if you want them) and it runs quite well, it has some differences with a Wii, though.

- It only has an HDMI port, so no CRT TV for you.

- No Gamecube or Wii games.

+ You get access to PS1, PSP and even some Dreamcast emulation (In progress)

+ You get to play CPS3 games (embed related) and those big Neogeo Roms the Wii can't handle

+ You get a wider range of available controllers to use

+ You can use the ODROID to boot Android or Linux as well, with decent results.

A modded original Xbox can do emulation surprisingly well, to the point it can do N64/PS1 emulation decently. Might be worth looking into.

>The Wii is the best cheap option

Unless you have access to some emulators I don't; no. It struggles to run anything past 16bit properly. And arcade game support was abysmal.

I mean, I'd like it to, I love using my Wii for NES stuff. I don't own the original console, and it looks amazing with component video. But from my experience it doesn't have the power, or up to date emulators.

Can anyone tell me about mods for an NES side loader to enable the Famicom exclusive sound channels?

I bought a Duck Hunt with a built in converter and intend to use it for Akumajou Densetsu when I find it, but I also intend to buy an Everdrive for FDS exclusive games like pic related.

My questions are:

1. Can you restore the Disk System exclusive synth (as in that weird sawtooth "Oboe" sounding synth in the Japanese version of Kid Icarus) for an Everdrive? I know you can restore shit like the VRC7, but what about the FDS only sound?

2. Will performing the Everdrive mod and the converter mod simultaneously cause any crazy interference when both are used at once or blow my NES tha' fuck up?

Hey /vr/, I recently picked up this controller for my computer, but the D-Pad isn't very good.

I can use it, but it makes my thumb really sore after a few hours since it requires so much pressure to use, as well as being one of those garbage pads that slides around in the controller.

What are some good USB controllers without garbage D-Pads?

For reference I hold the SP's D-Pad as the gold standard.

I have an FC30 Pro and it's fucking incredible. It'd bluetooth but it can connect to PC through the usb cable that comes packaged with it.

USA simply because I grew up with it. Didn't play the lost levels until the SNES release.

If I am not on heavy stims I like USA

If I am on a-pvp or something, Lost Levels.

I know it seems counterintuitive, but for some reason I can kick righteous ass at LL when I am so stimmed out I can't piss straight.

I think it has to do with it being so hard that I don't think about it, and accidentally do good because I stop being mad at failing at easy obstacles due to overcompensation.

I'd take SMB2 over Doki Doki Panic any day. It's a fun, creative, challenging take on the original game. Whereas the original game was structured to introduce people to the sidescrolling genre, SMB2 was actually made for sidescroller players. I have similar feelings regarding Doom II over the original Doom.

Hey /vr/. I just finished beating Koudelka and seeing each of the endings. Despite the state in which it released and the issues within Sacnoth that produced it, Koudelka's a great game. It's worth playing for those that enjoy truly dark games and RPGs, though it plods along because of the crippled battle system, and it should've been Kikuta's magnum opus.

Anyways, I'm here not just to talk about Koudelka and what could've been, but also because I'm looking for something from Kikuta's discography: The Lost Files. Right now YouTube user whitenoisemonster666 has about half of the songs uploaded, but I can't find the rest anywhere else.

Here's the full tracklist, of which about only 8 or 9 are on YouTube: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Files

If you can't help, that's fine. Just consider this a Hiroki Kikuta, Sacnoth and/or Shadow Hearts general.

Just got it. No issues playing it from my ASUS DVD-RW drive, sounds great too. Will rip it and post a mega link here, then maybe I'll set up a burner account on YouTube to upload the CD tracks.

Got this cute little Japanese ad for a CD/DVD shop there. Looks like it's the shop I bought the CD from. Probably won't be the last time I do business with them.

Neat, hope you're enjoying it.

Might be worth putting the link to the rip of it in the share thread on /v/ as well. While it's not exactly vidya (I could be wrong, but aren't the songs on that all original works by Kikuta that weren't used in games?), but related enough that I think it would be welcome (not as if they don't get a range on non-vidya stuff in there too; I know one anon occasionally posts a mega full of lewd fan art).

Will do. The Lost Files album was what Kikuta submitted to Square with his job application, so I'd say it's pretty closely vidya related. The songs are reminiscent enough of his work on the Mana series.

Sweet, thanks.

To quick link between boards, you use three right carrots, the board name, and post number. So that link would be >>>/v/7623591.
