Why would you be scared of being seen as a hoarder? obviously you have not asked for anything else beforehand, so, I don't see the problem if its only that one time, and the monitor/tv is worth it,It'll do you goof though knowing if they'll ever allow employees to take shit for themselves before you start dreaming about the next CRT that passes by, maybe offer a couple dollars, if the company pays for kg of electronics trash, or say it's for your grandma if you are autistic and don't want them to know you are into old shit, take it from an actual electronics hoarder (nothing of value just appliances boards) who would dread destroying all that stuff, and adopt the next shining and capable CRT that drops by, give it a good home.

Because someone on the River City Girls /v/ thread asked me to. Note that this doesn't cover anything past what the rules allow (like River City: Rival Showdown or the upcoming River City Girls). This isn't exactly a crosspost either, since there's a lotta info here not on the original write-up.

>What is Kunio-kun?

A classic but also still on-going series of video games usually about a hot-blooded high school kid known as Kunio beating up a city of thugs single-handedly in a day with his bare fists or a trash can. Its first game, Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun, is said to be the very first beat-em-up after Kung-Fu, and is what later inspired the Double Dragon series.

Occasionally, however, he's the sports leader for everything under the sun, and fully endorses beating the shit out of the enemy team as a valid strategy. So his series is mainly a mix of beat-em-ups, and sports games where you beat them up. There's also a puzzle game and a platform fighter that came out way before Smash Bros. existed. Most people know his games but never really made the connection, since any games that went to the west were all under different names: Renegade, Super Dodge Ball, River City Ransom, Nintendo World Cup, and Crash 'N The Boys: Street Challenge, If you've played any of these games, you've played a Kunio-kun game. If you've played Double Dragon II: The Revenge on Game Boy, you've also played a Kunio-kun game.

This huge list of games will be separated into 3 parts: The beat-em-ups, the sports, and the miscellany. Because of this it might not be in perfect chronological order.

<The Beat-Em-Ups

>Renegade (Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun) (NES, Arcade)

The very game that Double Dragon would later be based off of, and is pretty much considered the very first beat-em-up right after Kung-fu. As such it's very primitive, even more so on NES. In the arcade version you just beat goons but in the NES version there's also a bike scene and overall more "modes" than the arcade, and could be considered overall harder. Play if you want to get your history on, but note, it's very primitive and rough around the edges

>River City Ransom (Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari) (NES, X68000,Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

<The Sports

>Super Dodgeball (Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu) (Arcade, NES, X68000, and at some point PC Engine, Game Boy port later, and eventually a sequel on SNES, then an all-new remake for Neo Geo)

Lead Kunio and his gang to victory by finding a way to beat the life out of everyone with only a dodgeball. The PC Engine version, Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu: PC Bangai Hen, is a special version of the original Dodge Ball which combines the graphics and teams of the arcade version with the emphasis on character-specific statistics and team formation. Features an arcade-style mode and a plot-oriented Quest Mode where Kunio gets his ass beat by a fucking alien and he and his crew have to euthanize them with dodgeballs.

>Nintendo World Cup (Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu: Soccer Hen) (NES, X68000, Game Boy, at some point the PC engine, and ironically enough the Sega Drive)

Play some soccer/football and beat the shit out of the opposing team on the way. There's really not too much to say, it's simple as it gets. I think the PC Engine version (Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu: CD Soccer Hen) is the definitive edition but I'm not too sure about that.

>Downtown Nekketsu Kōshinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundōkai (NES, PC Engine, and later Game Boy)

A game that can be played with up to 4 players. Lead Nekketsu against 3 other rival schools in four different competitions, no holds barred, and beat the shit out of them too.

>Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu: Subette Koronde Dairantō (Unreleased Title: Crash 'N The Boys: Ice Challenge) (NES)

One of Kunio's pals has self-esteem issues with his hockey team. Kunio uppercuts the fuck out of him and tells him to be a man, and then takes charge of his own hockey team and goes on a rampage. In short, hockey but you beat the shit out of everything. This was meant to be released in the US as the noted unreleased title, but for some reason never went far.

>Crash 'N The Boys: Street Challenge (Bikkuri Nekketsu Shinkiroku: Harukanaru Kin Medal) (NES, Game Boy)

Kunio's bloodlust grows. Now no longer content with beating the shit out of people with hockey sticks, he resorts to spiking people like they Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

 No.7838

<Other

>Nekketsu Kakutō Densetsu (Famicom)

Not a beat-em-up and I'm not exactly sure if it could be counted as a sport game, but it's a 4-player 2-on-2 platform fighter that came way before Smash bros. Also features a custom character that's made based on your date of birth and blood type. I feel like the game's usually a curbstomp until the final boss, but it's great fun. There's tons of obstacles you use to your advantage.

>Kunio no Oden (Super Famicom)

A puzzle game that's sorta like Puyo Puyo? It's hard to explain how to play it since I've also yet to play this, but essentially it's one huge, cutesy eating competition

Since the series is still ongoing, if you wanna give money to them while still playing classic games, you can get Kunio-kun: The World Classics collection for most modern gaming stations including PC (but it's all Japan-only) and be able to play most of the NES/Famicom classics, both original and an updated version that helps reduce lag in some games. I've also got a collection of translated and untranslated Kunio games, and while it doesn't feature everything (would if it could), it at least features most of the classic NES games and a couple SNES games. There's also a 3DS game in the mix but it should be easily noticeable and easy to skip.

https://mega.nz/#F!yFVCGAQZ!nf3AwhHUvOa4nTfFtq6kAA

Other than that, Kunio discussion thread I guess. One of the biggest mysteries, for anyone willing to hunt them down, is the River City Ransom/Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari EX 2007 hacks and seeing if the "stars" thing is real. Again, the Jewtube embed here is an example.

As a kid, I used to love the Fallout universe and lore, but I could never reconcile the fact that the world was frozen in time culturally for a good 120 years. I always thought just prolonging World War II and then having the nuclear apocalypse take place in the late 50’s or early 60’s would produce more or less the same result in terms of advanced nuclear fission based technologies and badass power armors, and make a hell of a lot more sense. Imagine if total warfare never truly ended until the nuclear apocalypse, for example, and essentially WW2 was the Great War that’s oft spoken of by the characters. You wouldn’t even have to change a lot of the dates, since it’s perfectly logical for the vaults to open up 200 to 300 years later anyway still. I prefer a tweaked timeline like this so much that I often play with this head canon in my head. Has anyone else ever put any thought into this, or shares my quibbles with the timeline?

don't understand how someone can be a retro gamer and be born after 1995. People born in 1996 like to claim they "grew up with" the N64 but they didn't, their first console was probably as PS2.

I'm 26 years old. So I was a teenager not too long ago, but honestly, my generation seemed A LOT more interested in actually play just good games instead of you Gen Z kids born after 1995 who only want to play the "cool" games like COD, Madden, FIFA, LOL, DOTA 2, and GTA 5. Hilarious how the teenagers playing these games are all hipster idiots who need to constantly rub in the fact that they're liberals.

It's weird, but if you look at those "Teens React" videos (particularly the Smash Bros. one), you'll see that the 1996 and up generation just doesn't know anything about classic 90s video games, anime, music, movies, or TV shows.

Heck, they don't even know early 2000s classics. Why is that? Shouldn't a 19-year-old remember shit from 2000-2005?

The PSone (the one with the LCD screen add-on) was released in 2000. The Dreamcast was released in late 1999. Both these systems had games being released well into the early 2000’s. Whether your early millennial faggot ass likes it or not, this meets the retro cutoff. And nothing is stop any late millennial, Gen Zer, or future generation from picking up these games to play and make it a part of their childhood or later years. What in the fuck is this pointless gatekeeping tribalism? Yoomers like you should be encouraging people to play older games from any previous gen so you have a newer generation that cares about curating classics and obscure titles of yesteryear. Why is it that gaming is filled with cynical juvenoia? Is it because you made vidya brands and plastic goodies a part of your identity? You don’t really see this shit in music and film where the older generation is contentious about showing the history of the medium to a younger audience.

TL;DR

Get a life, faget

I've started a C64 compilation of 8-bit classics lately. There's too much shit to list, but here's a start:

This entire board… should just be replaced with this… this one… single image. It's the only thing that should be here. Nothing will ever be greater, video games should have just quit after this game, there was no need to try and go further. It is peak perfection.

The original version used a better script. An orange lizard is hardly a good substitute for an orange cat. The penguin looks better than the snow man looking thing.

Still a boring-ass game. Offers nothing but brain-dead padded-out gameplay.

I've seen this chart posted a few times but it only extends back to 1988. There's also a brief history of PC gaming chart which only goes back to 1990. Why is this? I'm not someone who's very knowledgeable when it comes to older PC games but I've been growing more curious. Is there any way we can compile a new chart to include notable PC games which released prior to 1988? And how far back should we go? I'm not sure if it's really worth going through the 1970s but there were a good chunk of significant PC games in the early to mid 1980s that should be worth sticking on a PC gaming chart. Akalabeth, Zork, the first Ultima, Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0, Elite, Trinity, Starflight etc.

Because before 1987, most "DOS" machines were IBM Personal Computers(8088), XT's(8088), PCjr's(8088), AT's(286), or at the ass end of the 80's a PS/2 with a 386 on the high end. Even the Total DOS Collection only goes back to 1981, and there was less than 20 titles released that year. Most videogames on computers prior to 1987 were on Amiga, TRS-80, CP/M, or fucking mainframes. Still, there was some good games from 1981-1987 that do get ignored, since most people just focus on the popular titles from the era like the Zork series, Rogue, Ultima series, Kings Quest series, Wizardry series, etc.

I entirely support anyone willing to emulate all DOS releases from 1987 going back and make images like you've posted. A "complete" history of DOS gaming would be awesome. And companion images for complete Amiga and other retro PC gaming would be great too.

These kind of compilation pictures are dumb. Especially one that tries to be as complete as possible, instead of focusing per genre and making sure no inferior ports make the list it just arbitrarily divides by console it was released on. Also one that includes recommended mods is pretty much a must especially when it comes to PC. This picture doesn't tell me what version of Rayman to play and since I can't ctrl+F on it it better has JJ2+ on there.

So /vr/.. home computer general thread. I don't own many HCs but I do have two MSX computers. One's a Sanyo MPC-2, the other's a Sanyo Wavy70 FD. I reside in Arabia and the MSX was really popular here back in the day. I'm a bit of a youngin, so I decided to ask my parents if they owned them as kids. My mom replied affirmatively.

Nice, I newer saw Toshiba MSX. But Spectravideo SVI MSX and Express were quite popular here.

I want to have a chart that covers the origin points for everything vidya related, as well games that defined a genre, such as SFII.

The reason I'm posting this as a work in progress is because I don't have the ability to do all the research myself in any reasonable amount of time.

Allow me to start, and please any and all corrections and criticism is very much requested.

>First game

Space Wars

>First fighting game

Heavyweight boxing (1970s)

>First stealth game

0077 (??)

>First use of isometric

Zaxxon

>Revolutionized fighting genre to what it is today

SFII

>First FPS

Maze Hunter (??)

>First Roguelike

Rogue

>First turn based RPG

Ultima

>First dungeon crawl TB-RPG

Wizardry

>First game with a story

???

>First game with a cut scene

??

>First of every genre

This is a base necessity for this chart

>First [insert graphical improvements ie vector graphics, first color game, first game with actual video/photo(s), etc]

This is also a base necessity

>First x-bit games

First 8bit, 16, etc, this applies to both sound and video

>First game with samples

??

>First Japanese game

??

>First rotary joystick game

Even things such as this should be included.

Please, if you can think of any other cPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Wizard's Castle might be older than Rogue. It doesn't have the same kind of maze where monsters follow you around, but it's still a randomized dungeon where you fight monsters and grab treasure while seeking the "Orb of Zot".

On that page he posted the 1979 version called Hobbit, but there were later versions for various computers.

Then there's another different game altogether called DND that was written by Daniel M. Lawrence in 1976, and which eventually became sold commercially as Telengard (but there were various mainframe versions floating around before then). Have a look here for some background:

>Revolutionized fighting genre to what it is today

I'd say that's a very subjective label. First X is one thing, First Fighting Game with Special Moves maybe. Even then I think the first Street Fighter had special moves. I'd recommend avoiding vague or subjective labels altogether, and stick to firsts.

Also, I'm pretty sure Akalabeth did the turn-based RPG before Ultima did. Though technically, didn't any mainframe D&D game do the turn-based RPG thing before that?
