CDC director acknowledges hospitals have a monetary incentive to overcount coronavirus deaths

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield agreed that some hospitals have a monetary incentive to overcount coronavirus deaths as they do deaths for other diseases.

“I think you’re correct in that we’ve seen this in other disease processes, too. Really, in the HIV epidemic, somebody may have a heart attack but also have HIV — the hospital would prefer the [classification] for HIV because there’s greater reimbursement,” Redfield said during a House panel hearing Friday when asked by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer about potential “perverse incentives.”

Redfield continued: “So, I do think there’s some reality to that. When it comes to death reporting, though, ultimately, it’s how the physician defines it in the death certificate, and … we review all of those death certificates. So I think, probably it is less operable in the cause of death, although I won’t say there are not some cases. I do think though [that] when it comes to hospital reimbursement issues or individuals that get discharged, there could be some play in that for sure.”

Questions have been raised about coronavirus counting in hospitals across the country, and conflicting conclusions have been raised about whether or not deaths are being accurately counted.

A Yale study concluded that the overall coronavirus death toll in the United States is a “substantial undercount” of the actual number; White House coronavirus response team member Dr. Deborah Birx suggested in May that deaths are being overcounted by 25%.

There appear to be cases where the opposite has happened. An investigation in Florida found that several deaths were wrongly attributed to the virus, including the case of a man who died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The CDC’s website lists over 3,700 coronavirus deaths characterized as "intentional and unintentional injury, poisoning and other adverse events." In Texas, more than 3,000 people were recently removed from the overall coronavirus count because they were never actually tested but considered “probable” cases.

Judicial Watch: FBI Capitulates on Andrew McCabe Text Messages After Adverse Federal Court Ruling

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today the FBI will finally begin processing Andrew McCabe text message for release after a federal court rejected the FBI’s request to dismiss a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed on behalf of Jeffrey A. Danik, a retired FBI supervisory special agent, for emails and text messages of former-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe (Jeffrey A. Danik v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-01792). Mr. Danik filed his first request for the records in 2016.

After years of suggesting that text messages are not subject to FOIA, the FBI told the court in a recent filingthat it has located 150 text messages and 5,696 emails but will not have a schedule to release the records until August 28, 2020.

Judicial Watch filed the suit in 2017 in support of Danik’s October 25, 2016, and February 28, 2017, FOIA requests for records about McCabe’s “conflicts of interest” regarding his wife’s (Dr. Jill McCabe’s) political campaign and Hillary Clinton. Specifically, the two FOIA requests are for:

Text messages and emails of McCabe containing “Dr. Jill McCabe,” “Jill,” “Common Good VA,” “Terry McAuliffe,” “Clinton,” “Virginia Democratic Party,” “Democrat,” “Conflict,” “Senate,” “Virginia Senate,” “Until I return,” “Paris,” “France,” “Campaign,” “Run,” “Political,” “Wife,” “Donation,” “OGC,” Email,” or “New York Times.”

United States District Court Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, denied the DOJ’s motion to dismiss the case, concluding that DOJ had not provided sufficient evidence to support its attempt to end the lawsuit without providing all emails and text messages responsive to the FOIA requests.

“The FBI has outrageously stonewalled for years the release of these McCabe text messages about Clinton,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “You can be sure the text messages are something the corrupted FBI doesn’t want the American people to see.”

In November 2017, in a related case, Judicial Watch uncovered Justice Department records concerning ethics issues related to McCabe’s involvement with his wife’s political campaign. The documents include an email showing Mrs. McCabe was recruited for a Virginia state senate race in February 2015 by then-Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam’s office. The news that former Secretary of State Clinton used a private email server broke five days later, on March 2, 2015. Five days after that, former Clinton Foundation board member and Democrat party fundraiser, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, met with the McCabes. She announced her candidacy on March 12. Soon afterward, Clinton/McAuliffe-aligned political groups donated nearly $700,000 (40% of the campaign’s total funds) to McCabe’s wife for her campaign.

Also in November 2017, Judicial Watch discovered Justice Department records showing that McCabe secretly had recused himself from the investigation into Clinton’s unsecure, non-government email server on November 1, 2016, one week prior to the presidential election. The Clinton email probe was codenamed “Midyear Exam.” While working as Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office, McCabe controlled resources supporting the investigation into Clinton’s email scandal. An October 2016 internal FBI memorandum labeled “Overview of Deputy Director McCabe’s Recusal Related To Dr. McCabe’s Campaign for Political Office,” details talking points about McCabe’s various potential conflicts of interest, including the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s illicit server, which officially began in July 2015.

McCabe was fired from the FBI in March 2018 for leaking to the media and lacking “candor.”

On July 5th of this year – following weeks of steady decline – the United States recorded 263 deaths from COVID-19. This was the lowest daily toll in nearly three and half months. The July 5th figure represented a 90 percent drop from the peak which occurred April 21st. On that day there were 2748 deaths from COVID-19 (see worldometers.info for data).

The sharp decrease in COVID deaths was obviously a most welcome development. One would expect it would have quickly generated a spate of celebratory headlines.

Montgomery County Health Officer Travis Gayles issued the directive on Friday, declaring that "any school located in Montgomery County, Maryland that are not public schools [sic]" are "prohibited from physically reopening for in-person instruction through October 1, 2020."

Among the institutions forbidden from reopening are "all private pay schools, schools affiliated with religious institutions, or schools that are otherwise considered to be independent schools," the order says.

Gayles cited "increases in COVID-19 transmission rates in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of Maryland" as the justification for his order, though county data indicate that the average number of daily new cases and deaths, as well as the total number of COVID-19 hospitalizations there, are both at the lowest they've been in nearly four months. The percentage of positive tests in the county, meanwhile, has plummeted from a high of over 34% in April to under 4% now.

Gayles's order — which follows the county's recent decision to keep public school campuses closed through at least January — goes against the guidance of numerous public health officials and medical authorities, who in recent weeks have been strongly urging governments to re-open schools for in-person learning.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield has lately been calling for re-opened schools in the fall, deeming shuttered campuses a graver threat to children's health than the coronavirus. Last month he said that children's risk of fatality from COVID-19 is literally "one in a million."

The American Academy of Pediatrics, meanwhile, said in June that it "strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school."

Washington, D.C. attendees to the Atlanta funeral of the late Rep. John Lewis are exempt from following the District of Columbia's strict quarantine rules after returning home from Georgia, the D.C. mayor's office says.

Lewis, a longtime member of Congress and one of the major figures of the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, died on July 17 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. After lying in state at the United States Capitol, his body was returned to Atlanta for a funeral at that city's historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Among the attendees at that funeral were dozens of members of Congress, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senators Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Maryland House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.).

Under current District of Columbia rules, all of those individuals would normally be required to self-quarantine for two weeks upon returning to D.C. City Mayor Muriel Bowser's recent quarantine order dictates that any individual traveling to a "high-risk area" for "non-essential" reasons must self-quarantine for 14 days upon entering the District.

The entire state of Georgia is among the locations deemed "high-risk" by the mayor's office. But a spokeswoman for Bowser confirmed that attendees of the funeral would not have to follow the mayor's quarantine rules.

"Government activity is essential, and the Capitol of the United States is exempt from the Mayor’s Order," Bowser Press Secretary Susana Castillo told Just the News on Friday.

Asked if Lewis's funeral constituted "government activity," Castillo responded: "Yes."

Asked if attendees at non-government funerals in high-risk areas would have to self-quarantine upon returning to the District, Castillo again responded: "Yes."

Roger Stone and his supporters can breathe a sigh of relief following President Trump’s commutation of his sentence.

But it is clear the Deep State isn’t done.

And they just doubled down by launching a new plan to jail Roger Stone.

Anybody who has been following the news understands that the Deep State is targeting Roger Stone for one reason.

That’s because he was a vital supporter to President Donald Trump going into the 2016 election.

In fact, Stone had been pushing for Trump to run for President for decades, even running his very short-lived 2000 attempt for the presidency with the Reform Party.

The Deep State succeeded in convicting Stone with seven different charges relating to the provenly false Russia collusion scandal.

If President Donald Trump had not stepped in, Stone would be currently serving a three-year sentence in prison for those charges.

The fact that he isn’t is infuriating to the Deep State, and especially to the prosecutors who worked so hard to ensure he would face that steep sentence.

So naturally, those prosecutors are working to get a second chance at throwing Stone behind bars.

Andrew Weissmann, who was a top prosecutor in Stone’s case, has taken to The New York Times to propose a new idea to force Stone behind bars.

Weissmann alleges that the only reason that Stone didn’t spend any time behind bars is because he didn’t squeal on President Trump, writing, “Mr. Stone was sentenced to spend 40 months in prison until he got his reward for keeping his lips sealed.”

He bases this on Stone publicly stating that he would not “bear false witness” against President Trump, meaning that he would not lie to them in order to get a more lenient sentence.

After all, the Deep State ultimately wanted Stone to implicate Trump in crimes above all, and gave him the sentence he received because he would not do so.

Weissmann states that Stone should face further charges after January, 20 2021, which is the day Trump will leave office if he is not re-elected.

“The president’s commutation does not and could not apply to future crimes by Mr. Stone, including lying under oath to a grand jury,” he wrote, noting that “federal charges need not be lodged until, say, Jan. 20, 2021.”

He also considers the idea of states charging Stone with crimes as well, stating that, “State charges could be brought sooner.”

It is clear that he wants nothing more than Stone to be put behind bars.

And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that is all based on the fact that Stone supports President Trump.

Boxes of unopened coronavirus food for poor found dumped in Queens

Piles of unopened boxes of emergency city coronavirus meals meant for the poor were found dumped on the side of a Queens underpass Monday.

The outrageous sign of waste — after Mayor Bill de Blasio predicted up to 2 million New Yorkers would go hungry this summer amid the pandemic — was enough to make passers-by sick.

“Why wouldn’t you go give it to people in the streets?” local resident Juan Heno said of the 34 brown cardboard boxes of food piled on top of each other along a concrete wall below the Queens Midtown Expressway, around 57-45 74th St., in Middle Village.

“The city has a lot of homeless right now,” Heno noted to The Post.

The resident said he spotted the boxes — slapped with white labels and black lettering reading, “GetFoodNYC, COVID-19 Emergency Food Distribution, Packed on July 24th, Delivery by July 31st” — in the broiling heat around 9:30 a.m.

He said he called the city’s 311 hot line and was told someone would pick them up — but they were still laying out in the sun more than eight hours later.

Inside the boxes — part of the de Blasio administration’s much-touted program to feed the hungry during the country’s economic crisis — were plastic containers filled with food.

Some of the containers, marked “VEGETARIAN” and “CONTAINS NUTS,” held a bag of multigrain pretzel Pepperidge Farm goldfish, what appeared to be a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich and a small plastic container with part of a granola bar.

Another meal package held dried fruit and nuts, a granola bar, dried edamame and a bagel in plastic with a small cream-cheese packet.

The office of local city Councilman Robert Holden told The Post that a constituent texted photos of the wasted food to them and that he was reaching out to the city to see what happened.

“This is absolutely inexcusable, no matter how this food got there,” the councilman told The Post.

“So many New Yorkers have been desperate for a little extra food to help them get by during this pandemic, so it’s unfathomable to see perfectly good meals go to waste like this. This demands a thorough investigation by City Hall immediately.”

Neighborhood resident Sue Purcarin was just as distressed.

“It’s supposed to go to people,” she said of the food, which she saw by the side of the road in the afternoon. “This is horrible.

“Somebody didn’t want to do their job, and they decided, ‘OK, let me just dump it here.’ ”

The city Sanitation Department, which transports the food, said in a statement, “This is unacceptable, and no driver will be paid for incomplete deliveries.

“We have distributed over 100 million free emergency meals, but anyone who misses a delivery should let us know immediately at nyc.gov/getfood or by calling 311 so we can get them the food they need.”
