“I was impacted by layoffs today at The Daily Wire, so I am looking for opportunities in journalism/communications here in D.C.,” wrote Arcand.

In a statement, The Daily Wire confirmed it was undergoing a round of layoffs.

“Today, The Daily Wire made a difficult decision to restructure the organization, which included layoffs to a number of teams,” a company spokesperson confirmed to Barrett Media. “We are deeply grateful to those impacted. Their contributions were instrumental in building The Daily Wire into what it is today.

“The cuts were largely concentrated at our Nashville production office. As the company has invested in new formats, locations, and production models, our footprint there has evolved. Over the last year, we have added production staff in D.C., the Northeast, and Florida. This step allows us to focus our resources on an ambitious slate of new entertainment projects set to release this year.

“Additionally, we will continue to invest in our editorial team and investigative journalism where we have already added numerous new reporters across the country and established a DC bureau with a seat in the White House briefing room.”

Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee announced plans Friday to convene a special session of the state General Assembly next week that would focus on the state's congressional map after a recent Supreme Court ruling on redistricting.

The United States Supreme Court struck down Louisiana maps Wednesday that added a second majority black district, ruling that the maps were unconstitutional racial gerrymandering.

Lee said the new legislative session will formally review the state’s congressional map and stated that any changes to the map must be enacted as soon as possible to ensure Tennesseans have "reflective representation."

“The Apprentice” might be coming back to our screens sometime soon, and it won’t be some RINO governor taking the helm for Donald Trump.

Instead, it’ll be Donald Trump at the reins. Donald Trump Jr., that is.

While dad is busy running the country, it appears that the eldest Trump child will prospectively be filling his father’s old shoes, firing most and hiring one in the reality show reboot being discussed by Amazon MGM Studios, according to a Wall Street Journal report Wednesday.

And, as the Journal points out, it’s yet another sign that Hollywood — or what really remains of it, which is to say streaming giants that occasionally dip their toes into theatrical and broadcast releases — realizes that shoving left-wing propaganda down half of America’s throat like a goose being ravaged for foie gras isn’t good business.

“Amazon’s deliberations about rebooting the TV show — and potentially casting Trump’s son in the starring role — is the latest example of how it has sought programming that would appeal to the president and his base of conservative supporters,” the Journal reported Wednesday.

“In some instances, the first family has profited from the push,” it added, noting that Amazon distributed the documentary “Melania” about the first lady.

As it turns out, that doesn’t seem to have been a bad business decision. Trying to recreate “The Apprentice” with other non-Trump hosts after he began his run for the presidency did not go so well:

In March 2025, Amazon released episodes of the original “The Apprentice” series on Prime Video. There was a rush to resurface the reality show after Trump won the 2024 election, some of the people said.

When it first aired, “The Apprentice” was a major hit for NBC. Trump not only starred in the show but was an executive producer and shared in the financial success of the series. It later spawned spinoffs starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Martha Stewart, though those variations were short-lived. Just last week, Trump posted on Truth Social an old newspaper article about the first season’s high ratings.

Rebooting “The Apprentice” would fit into Amazon’s push to appeal to broader audiences as it competes with Netflix and others for viewers. For example, Hopkins has been pushing for more faith-based programming to differentiate Prime Video, according to former executives.

Of course, this will spawn accusations that Amazon is cozying up to the president; the Journal ended its article by noting this about Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who retired from CEO of the company but remains executive chairman: “This week Bezos was among the guests mingling with Trump at a White House state dinner honoring King Charles III.”

Yes, well, rich Americans do tend to do stuff like that, in case you hadn’t noticed. Nobody was flinging around the same innuendoes when Netflix was getting chummy with the Obamas or with the British royals’ embarrassing American-based annex, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Raymond Eugene Chandler III, of Wilkinsburg, was arrested and charged after a federal investigation into repeated threats made over voicemail, authorities said.

Chandler is charged with influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threatening a family member and by threat, according to the affidavit.

The criminal complaint, unsealed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, alleges Chandler left multiple messages targeting an unnamed member of Congress and President Trump between April 2025 and April 2026.

In one voicemail on April 18, 2026, Chandler allegedly described a graphic scenario in which the congressman and his daughter would be attacked, saying they would be “pull[ed]… out of your house” and have their “throat… slit,” according to the affidavit.

Days later, on April 29, 2026, Chandler allegedly left another message urging the lawmaker to assassinate President Trump, telling them to “walk into the Oval Office with a gun in your hand… put it to the President’s head… and… pull the trigger,” the affidavit states.

Authorities said the calls were part of a broader pattern of escalating rhetoric. The affidavit outlines additional messages in which Chandler allegedly voiced support for armed resistance against federal agents, discussed building gallows for the congressman, and claimed he had purchased weapons out of fear of the government.

Hours before his arrest, Chandler posted a YouTube video as part of his campaign for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. In the video, titled “It’s time to tax the billionaires,” he said he planned to challenge Sen. John Fetterman in 2028 and outlined a platform focused on wealth redistribution and economic reform.

As part of new reforms, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently announced the first time an Organ Procurement Organization has been shut down for unsafe practices.

Some in Congress are pushing ahead with proposed reforms of the organ donation industry. That, after a bipartisan investigation exposed shortfalls, abuses, and even dangers.

Since 1988, more than half a million U.S. organ donors have made 1.1 million transplants possible. 170 million Americans are registered donors, yet more than 100,000 people still wait. Organ Procurement Organizations, OPOs, are nonprofits tasked with managing removal and transfer.

As an industry insider, Nycki Martin became a whistleblower. She’s a former surgical preservation coordinator for Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates, or “KODA.”

“There are good parts to organ donation, but there's also a very dark side of it,” she told me in an interview.

Take the alarming case of TJ Hoover. In 2021, he was declared brain-dead after a drug overdose. He was prepped for organ donation, even when he repeatedly showed signs of life.

“TJ was taken to have a cardiac catheterization done to look at the quality of his heart as he was becoming an organ donor. His family had consented to that,” Martin says. “During that process, TJ woke up for the very first time in seven days. He was paralyzed and sedated, taken back to the ICU. The family was never told what happened, was never told that he woke up.”

Martin says TJ Hoover was still pushed toward organ removal, overseen by Martin’s then-employer, Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA).

But during his “honor walk,” at the hospital as he was wheeled in for organ removal, Martin says he woke up even more.

“He was more responsive, was tracking with his eyes, looking around,” Martin says. “The family was told by the KODA coordinator that that was just reflexes, and that's not true. He was waking up. So when we got him to the OR, TJ was pulling his knees up to his chest crying, trying to pull out his, you know, endotracheal tube, you know, visibly upset, you know, aware what was going on.”

The procedure to take Hoover’s organs was finally halted — when doctors refused to continue. He survived, though he’s disabled.

A former White House public health adviser today publicly admitted that during the first Trump administration, she was directed to limit Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s access to senior officials.

In a Substack post titled “Confessions of a White House Public Health Priestess,” epidemiologist Katy Talento, who served on the White House Domestic Policy Council, describes an internal effort to manage which voices were allowed into federal health discussions.

“I kept Robert F. Kennedy Jr. out of the West Wing. Now I owe him an apology,” Talento wrote.

Talento did not say who specifically directed her to limit Kennedy’s access.

Commenting on the essay, Children’s Health Defense (CHD) CEO Mary Holland said:

“I wish that more people would come out and say that they were mistaken. I think it is a brave thing to do and the world would benefit from more people saying, ‘I was misled, and I did things that I now regret.’”

Talento’s essay is a retrospective on two decades in public health, including roles advising lawmakers and working at senior levels of federal policymaking.

Seeing Titan

Shrouded in a thick atmosphere, the surface of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, is really hard to see. Small particles suspended in Titan's upper atmosphere cause an almost impenetrable haze, strongly scattering light at visible wavelengths and hiding surface features from prying eyes. Still, Titan's surface is better imaged at infrared wavelengths, where scattering is weaker and atmospheric absorption is reduced. Arrayed around this visible light image (center) of Titan are some of the clearest global infrared views of the tantalizing moon so far. In false color, the six panels present a consistent processing of 13 years of infrared image data from the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) on board the Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn from 2004 to 2017. They offer a stunning comparison with Cassini's visible light view. NASA's revolutionary rotorcraft mission to Titan's surface is due to launch no earlier than July, 2028.

Artemis II astronauts underscore our shared humanity, in historic UN visit

Their visit on Thursday followed a long-standing tradition – cosmonauts and astronauts have been coming to the UN for decades to speak about peace, international cooperation, and our shared global future.

The four-person crew carried out the farthest human spaceflight in history, travelling beyond the far side of the Moon and safely returning to Earth after 10 intense, demanding, and inspiring days.

In that short time, as noted during the event, they “captured the imagination of billions” and rekindled a sense of shared human participation in the exploration of space.

Tradition and continuity

The General Assembly building has long welcomed pioneers of the space age, starting with Soviet cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova – the first man and woman in space.

Their October 1963 visit symbolised not only technological progress but also the idea that cosmos is a domain where humanity can be united.

Since then, representatives of many nations have repeatedly addressed the international community, emphasising that space exploration is impossible without cooperation and shared responsibility.

Artemis II continues that legacy. The mission represents not only a technological breakthrough but also a model of international partnership, involving multiple countries and institutions, including the European Space Agency, with scientific instruments and systems developed by specialists from around the world.

“I had the opportunity to talk to everyone on the way here – I mean to these three pretty normal but pretty overachieving Americans and a Canadian,” said US Ambassador Mike Waltz, who hosted the evening discussion in front of an invited audience of excited earthlings with the astronauts.

The crew stressed that their task was not only to test a spacecraft, but also to remind people on the ground that humanity can achieve great things when it works together.

Earth from deep space

For all the astronauts, the most powerful experience was seeing Earth from deep space.

From hundreds of thousands of miles away, the planet appeared small, fragile, almost weightless against the vast darkness - an image that underscored both Earth’s uniqueness and the rarity of life itself.

“I always felt urged to just be grateful for what we were seeing and to be grateful for what we were eventually going back to,” said pilot Victor Glover.

NASA Kennedy Center Director Announces Plans to Retire

NASA announced Friday Janet Petro, center director for the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is retiring.

Prior to joining NASA, Petro worked in a variety of military and industry positions, ultimately beginning her career at the agency in 2007 and working her way up to center director, as well as serving as acting administrator from January to July 2025.

“From the outset of her distinguished tenure at NASA, Janet has served as a profoundly influential leader, guiding both the agency and our Kennedy Space Center through some of the most significant transitions in our shared history, including playing a central role in reshaping NASA Kennedy into the nation’s premier multiuser spaceport,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.

“As NASA has been charged, once again, with accomplishing the near impossible, I’m grateful for Janet for always embracing the challenge of discovering what could be and for pushing the boundaries to deliver the missions that enable NASA to lead the way into a new era of space.”

As NASA Kennedy’s 11th director, Petro manages a team of civil service and contractor employees, determining and implementing center policy and managing and executing the spaceport’s missions and agency program responsibilities.

Previously, Petro served as acting director and NASA Kennedy’s deputy director. During her time as deputy director, she helped the center transition into a multi-user spaceport, leading cross-agency initiatives with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and U.S. Air Force to streamline government processes and support commercial space operations to increase government efficiency and limit redundancy.

Petro also has served numerous roles at Kennedy and NASA Headquarters in Washington, including as the program executive on an agencywide initiative to restructure mission support functions, helping NASA become more efficient and effective in its work.

Outside of the agency, Petro has served in various management positions for Science Applications International Corporation, or SAIC, and McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Corporation, interfacing with NASA, U.S. military, and commercial entities on numerous aerospace and military programs.

Petro began her professional career as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army after graduating in 1981 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

She was in the second class of West Point graduates to include women. Petro also holds a master of science degree in business administration from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.

Petro is the recipient of numerous service and performance awards, including a President’s Distinguished executive award, and has received the astronaut-selected Silver Snoopy award for outstanding performance, contributing to flight safety and mission success.

In 2018, Petro was selected by Florida Governor Rick Scott for induction in the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame, and she helped lead the senior management team awarded the 2019 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Sammies Management Excellence Medal.

She received the 2022 Dr. Kurt H. Debus Award by the National Space Club Florida Committee for her contributions to America’s aerospace efforts within the state of Florida.

Effective Friday, Kelvin Manning now is stepping into the role of acting center director, bringing more than 32 years of leadership and technical expertise. He has previously served as deputy center director.

To continue fortifying its current capabilities, Space System Command’s System Delta 88 hosted a comprehensive, multiday Strategic SATCOM Reverse Industry Day event in partnership with the SATShow 2026 Conference in March in Washington, D.C.

The event served as a two-way channel, allowing SYD 88 to communicate its needs, and offered industry an opportunity to respond and showcase their innovative solutions.

Reverse Industry Days are designed to help strengthen commercial partnerships and accelerate the development of next-generation capabilities for warfighters.

Setting the Stage: The "Why" Behind the Mission

The event began with an intelligence threat brief from Chief Master. Sgt. Ron Lerch, senior enlisted advisor to the Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Intelligence.

This set the stage, giving industry partners a clear, unvarnished look at the operational environment, adversary capabilities and potential future threats.

Col. Ryan Rose, system program director for Strategic SATCOM, followed up by underscoring the gravity of Strategic SATCOM’s task, describing it as a "no-fail mission that must provide communication links for the president and national command authorities."

The high-stakes reality of the mission framed every discussion that followed.

Addressing the adversary threat directly, Rose said, "We know that China and Russia are deploying technologies to try to jam and interfere with our operations, and we are taking steps to ensure our system is threat-informed and responsive.

In order to stay relevant, we must adapt."

A New Acquisition Mindset

The central theme of the Reverse Industry Day event was the U.S. Space Force’s new approach to acquisition, including its embrace of a “commercial-first” mindset.

Historically, the Space Force has only acquired Strategic SATCOM capabilities from a small number of traditional defense primes, often delivering capabilities years later than initially projected.

Space Force leaders have emphasized that transforming the acquisition process is a core warfighting imperative.

"This event is about more than just briefings; it's about actively seeking partners—from nontraditional vendors to our established primes—to foster a competitive and resilient industrial base," said Capt.

Gerald Hills, the lead organizer for the event. "To outpace the threat, we must move at the speed of relevance, and that means leveraging open systems and embracing the full spectrum of innovation that industry has to offer."

Trump Admin Uses Emergency Powers to Clear $8.6 Billion Mideast Arms Sales

Qatar is to receive $4 billion Patriot systems, while Israel, the UAE, and Kuwait have secured guided rockets and new battle command capabilities.

The Trump administration invoked emergency powers on May 1 to go around congressional review and approve more than $8.6 billion in military sales to Middle East partners, including advanced precision munitions and missile defense systems for Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concluded that emergencies necessitated immediate action, precluding the standard congressional notification under the Arms Export Control Act, which typically requires Congress to review major foreign weapons sales, giving lawmakers time to raise objections or block deals.

The State Department announcements on Friday came as the United States and Israel’s war against Iran marked nine weeks since its start and more than three weeks ​since a fragile ceasefire came into effect.

The announcements said the sales improve partners’ self-defense ability without changing the regional military balance.

The largest package will go to Qatar, which will receive Patriot air and missile defense systems valued at an estimated $4.01 billion, including 200 PAC-2 Guidance Enhanced Missiles and 300 PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missiles, as well as spare parts, repair services, and technical support. Qatar also secured $992.4 million in Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II all-up-rounds.

The UAE was approved to receive $147.6 million in APKWS guidance sections and related equipment.

Israel was approved for $992.4 million in APKWS systems. Israel also receives 10,000 APKWS II rounds as part of the deal.

Also approved was the sale to Kuwait of an integrated battle command system at a cost of $2.5 billion.

Principal contractors for the systems are BAE Systems for APKWS, and Lockheed Martin and RTX for Patriot. Northrop Grumman, RTX, and Lockheed Martin were the principal contractors in the integrated battle command system sale to Kuwait.

The APKWS is a laser-guided rocket system of the Hydra 2.75-inch rocket, used to counter the increased use of drones and precision weapons, which have been on display in the Iran conflict. The system is described as a cost-effective option against small targets, such as drones and boats.

On Jan. 30, weeks before the conflict began, more than $15 billion in arms sales were approved for Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The United States and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28 in what has been called Operation Epic Fury by Washington. Iran responded with its own strikes ​on Israel and Gulf states that host U.S. bases. The conflict has involved sustained missile exchanges, cyber operations, and proxy engagements across the Middle East.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky is deeply implicated in corruption schemes and a broader power struggle in Kiev, former Ukrainian diplomat and ex-Prosecutor General’s advisor Andrey Telizhenko told RT on Thursday.

He added that the recordings published by Ukrainian media as the “Mindich tapes” are exposing the early stages of a wider network of financial wrongdoing.

Earlier this week Ukrainian media published transcripts of the covert recordings from an anti-corruption probe, indicating that businessman Timur Mindich, widely described as close to Zelensky, effectively ran the weapons firm Fire Point despite public denials.

The materials show him discussing funding, contracts, and foreign investors with then Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, now head of the National Security and Defense Council.

The head of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Public Oversight Council, Yury Hudimenko, said the recordings suggest “at least five to six crimes” that could be proven in court, pointing to potential links between the two.

The council warned that Fire Point could be barred from state contracts if the link is confirmed. The company has been promoted by Zelensky abroad as a flagship defense project, while national media have long referred to Mindich as “Zelensky’s wallet.”

The transcripts point to close links between the businessman, the firm, and figures in the president’s inner circle. A certain “Vova” – the familiar form of Vladimir – is mentioned several times in the recordings.

“Zelensky’s name is in there… this is just the beginning of his involvement,” Telizhenko said.

“He’s involved… up to his neck in money‑laundering schemes,” he claimed, adding that people like Mindich and [Sergey] Shefir, Zelensky’s business partner and former top aide,”are working by his side.”

Telizhenko said the developments reflect a broader struggle, claiming “the British are controlling the situation,” and “investing into the military industrial complex of Ukraine.” London has pledged a record package of more than 120,000 drones for Ukraine this year.

He described the situation in Kiev as “a power grab,” claiming that “Zelensky is right in the hotspot of it,” and predicting that “he’s going to be done. He will have nowhere to go.” Telizhenko insisted that “The West is trying to leak and destroy Zelensky, get him out of power.”

Commenting on continued foreign support for Kiev, he claimed that Western Europe is “involved in this corruption scheme right from the beginning,” adding that that they “are going to continue to push the money, because they are making profit from this.”

The EU’s actions have drawn criticism from Russia and some of the bloc’s members. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated in December that Brussels did not want to expose Ukrainian corruption because it was “also riddled with a similar corruption network.”

Addressing the scale of alleged corruption, Telizhenko tinsisted that “this is just the tip of the iceberg [...]

There’s not only $100 million… there’s billions and billions,” he said, claiming that “there’s around $120 billion that were laundered throughout this war just from what I know.”

Telizhenko said more revelations could follow, saying “within the next couple of weeks, we’re going to see more tapes with Vova… more and more come up.”

A paramilitary drone killed five civilians on Saturday when it hit a vehicle in greater Khartoum, a rights group said, the second such attack in the Sudanese capital this week.

Drone attacks by both Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which have been at war since April 2023 have intensified across the country in recent months, at times killing dozens of people in a single strike.

Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese legal advocacy group documenting abuses during the conflict, said an RSF drone struck a civilian vehicle on the Jammouiya Triangle road Saturday morning in southern Omdurman just across the Nile from Khartoum proper killing all those on board.

The vehicle was travelling from the Sheikh al-Siddiq area in White Nile state, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) south of Khartoum, the group said.

Last Tuesday, a drone strike hit a hospital in the Jebel Awliya area, around 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of central Khartoum, a security source and eyewitnesses told AFP.

It was the first such attack on the capital in months, after the area was recaptured by the army a year ago from its paramilitary rivals.

Jebel Awliya had been the RSF's last foothold in Khartoum state before the army's rapid counteroffensive, which pushed the paramilitary west towards its stronghold in the Darfur region.

The RSF carried out a series of drone strikes on Khartoum last year, largely targeting military sites, power stations and water infrastructure.

In recent months, however, the capital has seen relative calm. More than 1.8 million displaced residents have returned and the airport has resumed domestic flights, although much of the city remains without electricity or basic services.

Fighting has since been concentrated in Darfur, where the army lost its last base in October, and in Kordofan, where the RSF has sought to regain control of Sudan's key east-west highway.

Violence has also spread to southeastern Blue Nile state near the border with Ethiopia, raising fears of a more prolonged and fragmented conflict.

Now in its fourth year, the war has killed tens of thousands of people with some estimates putting the death toll above 200,000 displaced millions and triggered one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.

US President Donald Trump has said he would consider withdrawing some American troops stationed in Italy and Spain, after making a similar threat toward Germany amid a deepening rift with Washington’s European allies over the war with Iran.

Trump threatened earlier this week to reduce the number of US troops in Germany, continuing to deride NATO as a “paper tiger” following the refusal of other member states to back the US-Israeli bombing campaign in the Middle East. On Friday, the Pentagon said it would withdraw around 5,000 of the roughly 36,000 active-duty service members from Germany.

Asked by a reporter in the Oval Office on Friday whether he would consider removing troops from Spain or Italy, Trump replied: “Yeah, probably. Look, why shouldn’t I?”

“Italy has not been of any help to us. And Spain has been horrible, absolutely horrible,” Trump said. “It’s one thing if they said nicely, or if they said, ‘Okay, we’ll help,’ but the help is a little slow,” he added.

Spain denied the use of a naval base near Cadiz for attacks on Iran and closed its airspace to US planes involved in the campaign. Italy similarly refused to allow the US to use an air base in Sicily.

Trump reiterated that he considers NATO ungrateful for US military support to Ukraine. “We helped them with Ukraine. You know, they made a mess out of Ukraine, a total mess,”he said.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has strongly criticized the bombing of Iran. “From my point of view, this war is illegal, it is a big mistake,” he said last month. In a recent op-ed in Le Monde diplomatique, Sanchez again condemned “the unilateral attempts by the United States to engineer regime change in Venezuela and now Iran – all without seeking even a veneer of international approval.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has saidthe war with Iran has added to instability in the Middle East and driven up energy prices. She also criticized Trump’s attacks on Pope Leo XIV over his opposition to the conflict as “unacceptable.”

US Coast Guard Offloads More Than $72 Million Worth Of Cocaine

On Monday, U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba’s crew offloaded roughly 7,050 pounds of cocaine valued at over $53 million at Port Everglades, Florida, according to an April 27 statement. The seizures were made following interdictions in the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific. In addition to Escanaba, other USCG assets and the Joint Interagency Task Force South were involved in the operations.

“The crew’s achievements on this patrol reflect the very best of our service—courage, vigilance, and an unshakeable commitment to protecting the American people,” Escanaba Commander Nicholas Seniuk said.

“Every pound of narcotics kept off our streets represents lives changed, violence prevented, and communities made safer. We couldn’t be prouder of their extraordinary work.”

In an April 23 statement, USCG announced that its Cutter Resolute crew offloaded roughly 2,570 pounds of cocaine valued at more than $19.3 million at Base Miami Beach, Florida, and also transferred six individuals suspected of drug smuggling to authorities.

The seizures were the result of three interdictions in the Caribbean by the crews of USS Billings and Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, together with other partners.

Combined, the two offloading events involved the seizure of 9,620 pounds of cocaine worth more than $72.3 million.

According to the USCG, more than 511,000 pounds of cocaine were seized last year, which is more than three times the service’s annual average. The agency has also sped up its counter-drug operations in the Eastern Pacific region through Operation Pacific Viper.

“Since launching this operation in early August, the Coast Guard has seized over 215,000 pounds of cocaine and apprehended 160 suspected narco-traffickers. The Coast Guard’s persistent operations and rapid response have denied criminal organizations billions in illicit revenue and prevented the flow of dangerous drugs into American communities,” USCG said.

“Eighty percent of interdictions of U.S.-bound drugs occur at sea. This underscores the importance of maritime interdiction in combatting the flow of illegal narcotics and protecting American communities from this deadly threat.”

US President Donald Trump has announced 25% tariffs on EU-made cars and trucks, accusing the bloc of breaching a trade deal reached last summer but yet to be fully ratified by EU lawmakers.

The move constitutes a 10% hike from current 15% levies on the automotive industry. Announcing the decision, Trump urged European car makers to move their manufacturing to the US, saying that such cars would not be subjected to increased tariffs.

“I am pleased to announce that, based on the fact the European Union is not complying with our fully agreed to Trade Deal, next week I will be increasing Tariffs charged to the European Union for Cars and Trucks coming into the United States. The Tariff will be increased to 25%,Trump wrote on his TruthSocial platform.

While the deal between the US and the EU was agreed last July following a brief trade war, it ended up left in the bloc’s bureaucratic limbo. The EU Parliament voted at the end of March to advance the agreement, having twice delayed it before.However, the deal has not yet been fully ratified by the process known as the “trilogue.”To be fully implemented, the agreement must be approved not only by the legislature, but also by the EU Commission and the council of EU leaders.

The trade deal has been repeatedly criticized as a capitulation of EU bureaucrats before the US leader due to its generally unfavorable terms. Former EU foreign policy chiefJosep Borrell, for instance, has repeatedly blasted the bloc’s passive stance in the trade standoff with the US, stating that the “deal was unfair from the beginning,” with Washington imposing 15% tariffs on the bloc while “we reduced ours on them.”

Trump’s announcement prompted an immediate reaction in the EU, with the Parliament’s international trade committee head, Bernd Lange, lamenting Washington’s untrustworthiness and mulling retaliation.

“This is no way to treat close partners. Now we can only respond with the utmost clarity and firmness, drawing on the strength of our position,” Lange stated without providing any insights on potential countermeasures.
