BREAKING: The Supreme Court of Virginia has denied the Attorney General’s Motion for Emergency Stay in RNC v. Koski - the one where he didn’t quote the ballot language.

One sentence. No dissent. No partial relief.

“Upon consideration whereof, the Court denies the motion.”

What this means in plain terms:

Jay Jones’ outside counsel from California asked the Court to allow the election process to proceed pending the rulings on the merits of the gerrymandering cases.

The Court said “no.” This stops the election from being certified for now.

The same Supreme Court that allowed the referendum to go forward in March, so voters could be heard,has now declined to override a final judgment finding the constitutional amendment process defective. Strong signal that process matters in Virginia.

The Attorney General asked the Court of Virginia to set aside a final order that exposed a ballot question he would not quote, an Article XII timeline he had to redefine, and a 1912 case that did not say what he needed it to say.

The Supreme Court said “no.”

The merits appeal continues. I will keep you posted as this develops.

Trump Belatedly Blasts Merz Over Pointed Iran War 'Humiliation' Remarks

President Trump on Tuesday belatedly hit back at Chancellor Friedrich Merz after on Monday the German leader told students in a talk that the United States is being “humiliated” by Iranian leaders, amid struggling on-and-off negotiations, and as a crisis in the Strait of Hormuz shows no signs of de-escalating.

Merz had said he didn’t see "what strategic exit the Americans are now choosing" while simultaneously describing that Tehran’s negotiators are proceeding "very skillfully - or indeed very skillfully not negotiating."

The result, Merz had said, is that an "entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, particularly by these so-called Revolutionary Guards." The unusually blunt and direct anti-Trump commentary by the German Chancellor was given before a group of students at a secondary school in western Germany on Monday.

Throughout Monday, the media expected Trump to quickly lash back out, but that didn't come quickly. It's possible that he hadn't seen the Merz remarks, however. But by Tuesday afternoon, Trump complained on Truth Social that Merz apparently "thinks i's OK for Iran to have a nuclear weapon" and that he "doesn't know what he's talking about!"

He continued with the following jab, echoing a broader critique of other European allies as well: "No wonder Germany is doing so poorly, both Economically, and otherwise!"

Merz in his original attack on Trump's Iran war decision had claimed, "If I had known that it would continue like this for five or six weeks and get progressively worse, I would have told ​him even more emphatically." ​And yet the criticisms from EU leaders in the opening days were somewhat muted, meager, and weak.

Responsible Statecraft's Trita Parsi is also a deep Iran war critic, but agrees that the hypocrisy of EU leaders needs to be called out. Parsi writes:

Merz isn't wrong in saying he's "disillusioned" with the US & Israel over Iran because they "claimed at the beginning that they could solve this problem within days. Now I must recognize: It is not solved." But he is in no position to complain. He applauded the war and as a result, owns the outcome. This is typical of some EU leaders who support and help facilitate the US's worst instincts, and then pretend they are innocent when the foreign policy adventure predictably goes wrong.

The comments underscore several European leaders’ reassessment of their relations with Trump. A tendency to smooth ties by currying favor has given way to a more sober perspective of a U.S. president who has repeatedly called into question NATO, bolstered European far-right forces and threatened to seize Greenland, a territory of Denmark.

Regardless, the fresh critique by a leading EU head of state is certainly going to add fuel to the fire of Trump's ratcheting anti-EU and anti-NATO rhetoric, given their absence in helping the US get the Strait of Hormuz back open and the return to normal functioning of global energy transit once again.

Improper US Government Payments Rose To $186 Billion In 2025: Watchdog

About $153 billion—roughly 82 percent—of this total arose from overpayments.

The Government Accountability Office estimated that cumulative improper payments have reached about $3 trillion since fiscal year 2003. The actual amount may be much higher, the federal watchdog acknowledged in an April 27 report.

These improper payments represent false distributions—such as payments made to the wrong people, paid without proper documentation, or issued in the incorrect amount—from 64 programs reported by 15 federal agencies, and have been a government-wide issue for more than 20 years.

For fiscal year 2025, eight federal programs reported improper payment estimates of $5 billion or more.

Medicaid ($37 billion), Traditional Medicare ($28.8 billion), and Medicare Advantage ($23.7 billion) accounted for more than 50 percent of these erroneous payments.

Medicaid improper payments expanded by $6.3 billion in 2025, compared to the previous year. The Department of Health and Human Services stated that this was due to increased errors in eligibility redeterminations and provider screening as COVID-19 enrollment flexibilities phased out.

The Earned Income Tax Credit ($21 billion), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ($10 billion), and the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program ($10 billion) added up to more than 20 percent of the total improper payments.

Improper payments arising from the Earned Income Tax Credit—a refundable federal tax credit for low-to-moderate-income working individuals and families—increased by $5.2 billion. The Department of the Treasury has not provided reasons for the improper payments.

Reports that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf may have been sidelined from Iran’s negotiations with the United Stateshave revived an old question from Soviet history: can an insider reform a rigid ideological system without becoming one of its casualties?

Ghalibaf may be emergingnot as Iran’s Mikhail Gorbachev,but as something closer to Nikita Khrushchev—. an establishmentfigure attempting controlled change not to dismantlethe Islamic Republic, but to preserve it.

The Majles speaker, a formerIRGCcommander with deep ties inside the security establishment,has in recent weeks appeared to sit at the center of Tehran’s debate over diplomacy or confrontation.

Supporters of diplomacy see negotiations as a way to stabilize the system and prevent further confrontation with the West. Hardline factions warn that concessions would undermine the ideological foundations of the Islamic Republic.

US President DonaldTrump, intentionally or not, has helped fan the flames by publicly portraying Iran’s leadership as divided, echoing the way Washington’s rivalry with the Soviet Union often intensified internal debates in Moscow.

The comparison with Gorbachev has appeared before in Iranian politics. During the reform movement of the late 1990s, President MohammadKhatami was frequently described as “Iran’s Gorbachev.”

Hardliners used the label to attack him, while parts of the oppositionembraced it in the hope that his reforms might accelerate the system’s collapse.

In reality, neither Khatami nor his allies accepted that role.Their reforms were framed as an effort to strengthen the Islamic Republic rather than dismantle it.

More importantly, the structure of power at the time made a Gorbachev-style transformation nearly impossible.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei held ultimate authority and maintained the balance between rival factions,limiting both reformist ambitions and hardline overreach.

The conditions today are markedly different. Iran has endured direct external military pressure,and the legitimacy of the system has been shaken by recent protests. A younger generation appears deeply alienated from the ideological foundations of the state.

At the same time, the supreme arbiter who once managed factional competition no longer appears able—or willing—to impose the same discipline.

In such circumstances,change may come not from a reformist outsider but from a figure embedded within the system itself. Ghalibaf fits that description. His background in the IRGC, his political experience, and his connections across multiple factions give him a platform few others possess.

Yet any move toward accommodation with Washington provokes resistance from ideological loyalists who view compromise as betrayal, even as warnings grow that without meaningful change the system could buckle under pressure from abroad and deepening discontent at home.

Here the Soviet analogy becomes harder to ignore.

Khrushchev’s reforms were intended to strengthen the Soviet system, not dismantle it.. But attempts to modernize rigid structures often produce consequences their architects cannot control.

In 1964, Khrushchev was quietly pushed aside by his colleagues and officially “retired due to old age and ill health.”

If Iran’s leadership ultimately chooses a path of limited reform to preserve the state,Ghalibaf could still emerge in such a role.

But if the system rejects even controlled adaptation, he may instead become an early casualty of its resistance to change.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced they areleaving OPECin order to manifest their own sovereign economic destiny and increase domestic oil productionwithout the limits and rules of the OPEC cartel.

This is a significant alignmentwith President Donald Trump who has actively argued against the OPEC assembly and the oil price controls they have historically imposed.

• DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates said Tuesdayit will leave OPEC effective May 1, stripping the oil cartel of one of its largest producers and further weakening its leverage over global oil supplies and prices.

• The UAE’s decision had been rumored as a possibility for some time, as it pushed back in recent yearsagainst OPEC production quotas it felt had been too low— meaning it wasn’t able to sell as much oil to the world as it had wanted.

• “Having invested heavily in expanding energy production capacity in recent years, thebigger picture is that the UAE has been itching to pump more oil,” Capital Economics wrote in an analysis. “The ties binding OPEC members together have loosened,” it said, particularly after Qatar withdrew from the cartel in 2019. As noted by CNBC, “The UAE has played an influential role in OPEC’s decisionsover nearly six decades. It was the group’s third-largest oil producer in February behind Saudi Arabia and Iraq.The Gulf state joined OPEC in 1967, seven years after the organization was founded.”

Bessent did not name the countries making such requests, but told a US Senate Appropriations subcommittee budget hearing that such facilities would help stabilize financial markets amid turmoil from the Iran war.

“And swap lines, whether it’s from the Federal Reserve or the Treasury,are to maintain order in the dollar funding marketsand to prevent the sale of the US assets in a disorderly way,” Bessent said.

“So, the swap line would benefit both the UAE and the US,and as I said, numerous other countries, including some of our Asian allies, have also requested them.”

The US Treasury last October provided Argentina with a $20 billion currency swap to help stabilize the country’s peso during a tumultuous election period that helped strengthen the position of President Javier Milei’s party.

That swap line, backed by the Treasury’s $219 billion Exchange Stabilization Fund, provided Argentina with a safety net of dollars that the central bank could use to help prop up the value of the pesoand prevent a devaluation ahead of the vote. It has since been repaid.

REQUESTS FOR RUSSIAN OIL

Bessent also said that heextended sanctions relief on Russian seaborne oil for another 30 daysafter requests from a number of countries that are most vulnerable to oil shortages from the closed Strait of Hormuz. The requests came during last week’s International Monetary Fund and World Bank spring meetings, he said.

The action reversed his comments last week that he would not renew expiring sanctions waivers. A separate waiver to allow countries to buy Iranian oil stranded at sea lapsed on April 19. (more)

The UAE can bypass the Hormuz chokepoint, and Saudi Arabia can pump oil to the Red Sea via their east/west pipeline.

If Trump keeps the blockade against Iranian oil shipments in place,the UAE and Saudi Arabia can fill the global oil void; however, they need to get outside the OPEC restrictions to do it.Thus, the UAE exiting OPEC makes strategic senseboth now and in the geopolitical longer term.

However, in the short run the UAE needs financial stability as the switch is done.Enter Scott Bessent with the currency swap lines for the UAE.

Kimmel is facing intense backlash from scores of fed-up Melania Trump fansafter he called the First Lady an “expectant widow” before a gunman attempted to assassinate President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday evening.

Moreover, pressure on Disney’s advertisers arrives amid a report byThe Sun noting that ABC could be “ready” to shut Kimmel down “for good,” adding that thenetwork’s affiliates “have already been ordered to drop promotional clips for the show” after the First Lady blasted Kimmel for his “expectant widow” comments on Thursday.

“Stations which carry ABC around the country were told to pull Kimmel’s slated promos from their lineups this week,” an ABC insider told the magazine. “The move to pull Kimmel completely seems imminent.”

The Virginia Supreme Court (#SCOVA) has DENIED the emergency request to stay the injunction of certification of last week's Gerrymandering referendum!

Feds, state execute search warrants at Twin Cities daycares and autism centers

The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday that it executed search warrants in the Twin Cities as part of an ongoing criminal investigation related to fraud.

The state Department of Children, Youth, and Families confirmed the operation — and said state and county officials were involved.

“Today’s law enforcement actions are a result of state, county and federal agencies working together to root out fraud and hold bad actors accountable,” the state agency said in a statement Tuesday morning, without providing further details on the fraud allegations.

“We are pleased to see the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and our federal partners taking strong action based on information we have shared with them,” the statement continued. “We will continue sharing information with law enforcement to ensure they are able to conduct thorough criminal investigations.”

Search warrants can yield information in an investigation but don't always lead to criminal charges. Authorities had not charged or arrested anyone as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

State and federal agencies have long worked together on criminal investigations — but the apparent cooperation in Tuesday’s operation was notable, given the tensions and conflict between state and federal officials during the federal immigration enforcement surge earlier this year.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — who is set to give his final State of the State address on Tuesday night — issued a statement saying that “if you commit fraud in Minnesota you’re going to get caught — and that’s exactly what we saw today.”

“We catch criminals when state and federal agencies share information. Joint investigations work, and securing justice depends on it,” Walz said.

In a statement posted to social media on Tuesday morning, DHS said the criminal investigation related to “the rampant fraud of U.S. taxpayers dollars.”

“The American people deserve answers in how their taxpayer money was abused,” DHS said in a social media post.

The agency said it carried out the warrants “in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area” in cooperation with local and state law enforcement agencies. It did not release further details about the location and nature of the search warrants, citing the safety of law enforcement officers.

MPR News journalists observed federal and state law enforcement officials outside two childcare centers in south Minneapolis — including one where officials eventually hauled boxes of materials out of the building.

Sources told KARE 11 that authorities carried out more than 20 search warrants on Tuesday, focused on childcare and daycare providers. Several centers that work with people with autism also were part of the operation.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office said its Medicare Fraud Control Unit participated in serving warrants Tuesday at five sites that serve people younger than 21 who have autism spectrum disorder. Those five sites are located in Mendota Heights, Savage, Fridley and Minneapolis.

Ellison’s office said it was not involved in search warrants at childcare facilities, because those sites do not involve Medicaid.

The city of Minneapolis issued a statement saying it was not involved in the operation — and that as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Minneapolis police hadn’t been asked to assist in the execution of the warrants.

“We understand that any federal actions in our neighborhoods may spark fear among residents, and we will continue to marshal city resources to help the community in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge,” the city statement read.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that it has a task force officer assigned to the FBI’s Evidence Response Team, which was part of the operation. The sheriff’s office also said it had “two marked squad cars on two scenes to secure the perimeter as part of this criminal investigation. Perimeters help ensure the safety of both the community and the law enforcement officers who are executing the criminal warrants.”

“Our office works with local, state, and federal agencies on criminal investigations,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that it was partnering with federal investigators to execute search warrants Tuesday, but declined further comment.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota applauded the law enforcement operation.

“President Trump and his administration have made it crystal clear — our country will not tolerate waste, fraud, and abuse, and we are not going to allow people to take advantage of Americans’ generosity,” Emmer wrote.

Former Fauci aide charged with conspiring to evade Covid-related records requests

A former senior official at the National Institutes of Health has been indicted on obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges for allegedly concealing federal records about research into viruses like the one that caused the Covid pandemic.

David Morens, 78, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Greenbelt, Maryland, earlier this month on three felony counts for allegedly using a Gmail account to hide official communications about controversial federally funded projects studying coronaviruses in bats. The indictment was unsealed Monday, when Morens made a brief appearance in court and was released on his own recognizance, according to court records.

According to the indictment, Morens sent and received emails on his private account in order to thwart Freedom of Information Act requesters seeking information about so-called gain-of-function research, which can make pathogens deadlier or more transmissible in order to study them.

After the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, at least eight FOIA requests were submitted for such records by organizations including Science Magazine, Judicial Watch and the Heritage Foundation, the indictment says.

Morens served as a senior adviser to Anthony Fauci, the former longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is part of the NIH. Fauci became the face of the Covid-19 pandemic response, gaining fans but also numerous detractors, including many Republicans and the now-Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Fauci, who is not accused of wrongdoing in the case, distanced himself from Morens in a 2024 congressional hearing, saying he and Morens didn’t work together closely.

The indictment references two unindicted co-conspirators. They are not charged with any crime and were not identified by name in the indictment.

Records released in congressional investigations into Morens’ actions indicate they are Peter Daszak, a zoologist and former president of the EcoHealth Alliance, and Gerald Keusch, a physician and former associate director of Boston University’s infectious disease lab.

Morens’ lawyer declined to comment. Keusch and attorneys for Daszak did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Republicans and Democrats sharply criticized Morens at the 2024 House hearing, saying his actions showed a disrespect for the public’s right to know and that he appeared to have intentionally deleted emails relevant to the issue.

The indictment stops short of actually accusing Morens of deleting emails that were federal records, but it references a 2021 message Morens sent, saying: “I learned from our FOIA lady here how to make emails disappear after I am FOIA’d, but before the search starts, so I think we are all safe. Plus, I deleted most of those earlier emails after sending them to Gmail.”

During the House hearing, Morens said he’d never actually received such advice. Morens also said he had tried not to conduct official business on his private email account and any mention he made of deleting was about personal emails.

Several lawmakers had urged the Justice Department to investigate Morens, including Sen. Rand Paul, who sent then Attorney General Merrick Garland a letter in May 2024 citing “strong evidence that Dr. Morens violated federal law by concealing and destroying federal records.”

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer issued a statement Tuesday praising prosecutors for indicting Morens.

“We caught Dr. Morens red-handed,” Comer said. “I applaud the Trump Justice Department for taking action to hold this public official accountable for hiding information from the American people.”

King Charles III has cracked a joke about US President Donald Trump’s controversial White House ballroom project, comparing it to the burning of the iconic building by British troops in 1814. He also issued what was widely seen as a subtle rebuke of Trump’s criticism of NATO amid friction in US-UK ties.

In October 2025, the Trump administration demolished the historic White House East Wing to build what the president said would be a privately funded grand ballroom.

The project met regulatory pushback, with controversy escalating further on Monday after Senator Lindsey Graham advocated for legislation to fund the construction with more than $300 million in taxpayer money, framing it as a national security imperative after a gunman tried to storm the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, Charles humorously mentioned the ongoing construction, saying: “I cannot help noticing the readjustments to the East Wing... I’m sorry to say that we British, of course, made our own small attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814,” in a reference to British troops burning the building during the War of 1812.

He saved a second light-hearted barb for Trump’s habit of reminding Europeans that the US supposedly saved them from speaking German during World War II. “Dare I say that if it wasn’t for us, you’d be speaking French”, Charles added, in a nod to Britain's defeat of France in the Seven Years’ War, which paved the way for British control over North America.

During his visit, King Charles also took an opportunity to take a subtle swipe at Trump over his criticism of NATO, which escalated after the bloc refused to support the US in its war on Iran. Charles recalled that the only time NATO invoked a mutual defense clause was in the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001.

The Wide Awakes Are the Civil War–Era Activist Group Making a Comeback in Bold, Joyful Style

In 1860, two diametrically opposed foes ran against each other for the president of the United States. The candidates were Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, and John C. Breckinridge, a Southern Democrat. The election took place during a time when the country was deeply divided over slavery, territorial borders, and workers rights. After Lincoln was elected, the Civil War began.

Fast-forward to 2020, and we’re on the precipice of another contentious, terrifying election with two deeply divided sides of the country—one that puts God and country first and the other that puts human liberties and social justice first. But aside from drawing parallels between the perils of a discombobulated democracy then and now, there are also similarities between the two eras when it comes to advocacy and activism.

Tomorrow, an 1860s-era youth organization called the Wide Awakes will make a timely return. The Wide Awakes were, back in that day, a diverse group of young Republicans who supported Lincoln and the abolition of slavery. They represented a youthful, hopeful generation that believed strongly in democracy, civil liberties, and basic human rights. It began with five store clerks who marched behind Lincoln after a rallying campaign speech he gave in Hartford, Connecticut. They provided him with a parade and torch-lit escort, and they wore oilcloth capes in order to protect their clothing and skin from the dripping wax of the torches. The movement then gained momentum in the Northern states, and on October 3, 1860, 10,000 Wide Awakes marched three miles through the city of Chicago. By the time Lincoln was elected, the group counted some 500,000 members.

The Wide Awakes of 2020, however, look a little bit different. Cofounded by the artist Hank Willis Thomas, photographer Eric Gottesman, Michelle Woo, and Wyatt Gallery, the group includes hip-hop king Fab 5 Freddy, the Roots’ Tariq Trotter, and artist José Parlá, among many others. The new Wide Awakes group was born out of Thomas’s political organizationFor Freedoms, which he founded just before the election in 2016.Since December 2019, they’ve been planning this year’s October 3rd march from their home base in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The processions are set to take place around the country, beginning at locations that include the Brooklyn Museum, Times Square, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, and more. In addition to spotlighting these starting points for tomorrow’s nationwide marches, the 2020 Wide Awakes website also provides information for those who would like to start their own activations in their local communities.

Members of the founding group in Brooklyn will pay homage to the original Wide Awakes and their protest fashion by wearing bold, handmade capes designed by a range of BIPOC designers. These designers include Michelle Obama’s New York City-based tailor Christy Rilling and artist Wildcat Ebony Brown. The vibrant capes are a far cry from the oilcloth styles of centuries past: There are kaleidoscopic prints, colorful embellishments, and symbolic nods to the designers’ heritage and the history of the Wide Awakes movement.

Today, we face so much danger in the public sphere, through institutional persecution and overzealous police tactics, that I want my cloak designs to embody a forward-thinking look and functionality of military and medical protective garments and equipment. In my own life as an artist, internationally active in life situations that can “get out of hand” and have been called “unconventional,” this kind of clothing and equipment has been essential. Retroreflective material is something we’ve played around with, artwise, for a while. It glows with direct light, and when I mix it with vibrant colored patterns, the dual effect can be mesmerizing. Thematically, I’m lining them with vibrant African wax prints which is a callout to our past and future, and at the same time is interestingly problematic in terms of their origins involving Indonesia and the Dutch. —Coby Kennedy

I chose to use black faux leather, inspired by the unofficial uniform of the former Black Panthers. I also chose denim to symbolize the all-American blue jean, which symbolizes unity. The various Ankara prints are used to acknowledge African heritage and the struggle for persons of color who are most often disenfranchised and politically and socially suppressed. We are living in an unprecedented socioeconomic climate to which millions of people of all backgrounds have been affected. Historically though, it has always been the descendants of the diaspora who have had to fight for their voices to be heard and their existence to be acknowledged as valuable. —Dionne Fraser-Carter

The fabric I created has an image of Fred Hampton, who was a key member of the Chicago Black Panther Party and was murdered by the Chicago Police Department with the assistance of the FBI during their COINTELPRO program. Months later, centred around the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd and countless others, we found ourselves (focused on) the original pandemic, which we could call supremacy. So as we found ourselves battling these twin pandemics, it became an opportunity to get on the ground and start our work, and that started with the Juneteenth (Emancipation Day) celebration. We see ourselves as a kind of excavation continuum, which means we have to look at decolonising a lot of the terminology, holidays and practices in our society, so that we stop ourselves from being stuck in what seems like a finite game and start to play an infinite game of liberation for all.

Ford Biometric Monitoring of Drivers that Tracks Emotions that Can Trigger Kill Switch

Ford Motor company has filed multiple patents related to driver monitoring systems that typically use cameras, sensors, and AI to track driver attention, drowsiness/fatigue, distraction and facial expressions. The technology can track facial expressions, analyze emotions, and it is trained to read lips.

Ford patent no. 0104469 “doesn’t just watch you,” it “puts drivers in jail.” This system reportedly measures a driver’s biometric data — face, iris, fingerprints — and runs the collected info through a law enforcement criminal database in real time.

Technology meant to trigger a “kill switch” if a car judges a driver to be drunk might also stop someone imperiled by a threat or extreme emergency from starting their car or truck.

Congressman Thomas Massie, who tried to stop the ‘kill switch’ mandate, said, “Federal law says new cars after 2026 must monitor drivers and shut down if the car disapproves. Your dashboard should not be judge, jury, and executioner.”

"Hollywood actor Sam Neill recently announced that he’s cancer-free thanks to a revolutionary new cancer treatment still undergoing a trial phase.

"The New Zealander announced in 2023 that he was battling angioimmunoblastic T-Cell lymphoma. This week, Neill told Australia’s 7News that he’d been battling cancer for five years.

“I was on chemotherapy and [it was] pretty miserable business, but it was keeping me alive,” Neill said.

The chemotherapy eventually stopped working and Neil was preparing for death.

“I’m not afraid to die, but it would annoy me,” Neill told the Guardian in 2023. “Because I’d really like another decade or two, you know? We’ve built all these lovely terraces, we’ve got these olive trees and cypresses. I want to be around to see it all mature. And I’ve got my lovely little grandchildren. I want to see them get big. But as for the dying? I couldn’t care less.”

"Things took a turn for the better after Neill underwent a new experimental cancer treatment known as CAR-T cell therapy, which harnesses the immune system to create ‘living drugs‘ that seek and destroy cancer cells. Doctors perform the treatment by collecting T cells from the patient’s blood and strengthening them in the lab. The T cells are then returned to the patient through an IV and continue to multiply.

“I’ve just had a scan just now and there’s no cancer in my body,” Neill said. “This is an extraordinary thing.”

"The actor, known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, told 7News that he’s now preparing for a return to the big screen, saying, “It’s time I did another movie.”

No, Earth did not recently acquire six more moons! Today’s APOD is a combination of images following the Moon, Venus, and the Pleiades across a southern Sicilian sky as twilight turned to evening on April 19. From 2023 to 2029, the Pleiades' and the Moon “visit" each other once per month due to the Pleiades' location in the ecliptic plane. April 2026 saw the celestial alignment of their visit with Venus. About six stars in the Pleiades cluster (Messier 45) are typically visible with the unaided eye. Due to the cluster’s visibility across the world, there are many myths and legends across cultures associated with the Pleiades. The Haudenosaunee people of North America, for example, say that seven boys danced so enthusiastically that they lifted off into the sky. Astronomers recently found thousands more Pleiades members, showing that after thousands of years of gazing upon this cluster, there is yet more to learn about the Pleiades.
