SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is targeting the launch of 29 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

Biden backs Keisha Lance Bottoms for Georgia governor in his first endorsement since leaving office

Former President Joe Biden on Friday backed former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' campaign for governor in Georgia, his first endorsement since leaving office last year.

"I've known her for a long time, and she's something special," Biden said in a video backing the former mayor, who served as a senior adviser in the Biden administration.

Biden added in the video that the "same qualities that made her a great mayor made her invaluable to our administration." He called Bottoms "smart" and "focused" and said she "gets things done."

"Georgia, she's ready. She's been ready," said the former president, who included Bottoms on a short list of potential vice presidential running mates in 2020.

Bottoms is running in a crowded Democratic primary field, which also includes former Georgia state Sen. Jason Esteves, former state labor commissioner and DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who served as a Republican but later switched parties.

Bottoms has held a lead in public polling in the race, but it's unclear whether she'll garner more than 50% of the vote and avoid a runoff after the May 19 primary.

Whoever wins the Democratic primary nomination will go on to face the eventual GOP gubernatorial nominee.

Georgia, a battleground state in federal elections, skews more Republican statewide and hasn't elected a Democrat to be governor since 1999, when former Gov. Roy Barnes won and served until 2003.

In 2018, Democrat Stacey Abrams came within less than two percentage points of winning the Georgia gubernatorial contest against Brian Kemp, who is now governor. Kemp beat her again in a 2022 rematch election by more than seven percentage points.

The Republican primary field is also crowded and unlikely to avoid a runoff. Businessman Rick Jackson and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones currently lead the race in public polling, but Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and state attorney general Chris Carr are also running. Kemp is term-limited.

A new hub forSomali-run home healthcare businesses appears to be taking shape at 100 Larrabee Road in Westbrook, where seven new home care providers registered last year. Most have ties to the Minneapolis area.

From January through November 2025, seven home healthcare agencies registered at the Westbrook office complex:

Golden Path LLC formed on January 29, 2025, under registered agent Abdi Jabaar Mohamud.

Oblu Bridge LLC formed on March 26, 2025, under registered agent Hamsa Bayer.

Horizon Plus LLC formed on April 25, 2025, under registered agent Abdifetah Abdirahmah.

Lax Home Care LLC formed on June 25, 2025, under registered agent Muhumed M. Hussein.

Noblepath LLC formed on July 25, 2025, under registered agent Noblepath LLC. It is not clear why the business is listed as its own registered agent or who is actually behind the business.

Mission Home Care LLC formed on October 1, 2025, under registered agent Mohamed Hassan.

Pure Care LLC formed on November 18, 2025, under registered agent Pure Care LLC. Once again, it is unclear why or how the business could serve as its own registered agent.

The address also houses Avello Home Care LLC, which formed in 2023. Strangely, Avello, registered to Alkarim Muse, has never received any MaineCare money, according to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) records obtained by The Maine Wire.

Despite being registered since 2023, Avello does not appear in state licensing data, suggesting that it has never actually been authorized to act as a home healthcare provider.

According to business records, Avello administratively dissolved in November 2024 after failing to file an annual report but moved to its current location at 100 Larrabee in February 2025, when it filed its annual report and was reinstated as an active business.

Multiple websites that host information on home health care businesses place Avello at 280 Park Street in Lewiston, which may be its old location prior to its move to 100 Larrabee. The phone number listed on NPIR.org and CareAvailability for Avello has a763 area code, the area code for the northwestern suburbs of Minneapolis.

The Maine Wire called that number. A man picked up and claimed that Avello is no longer operational. He explained that they attempted to restart in 2025 but ultimately decided against it, though that is not reflected in official business records from the Maine Secretary of State’s (SOS) Office.

The new 2025 businesses appear to be ramping up operations.

As of the end of 2025, only Golden Path had started billing and billed just $4,225, but Golden Path was the earliest to form, and the rest may have begun billing after the end of last year.

Golden Path was first licensed to act as a home care provider beginning in March 2025. Those records tie a 612 area code number to the business, the Minnesota area code that contains Minneapolis.

The Maine Wire reached out to that number, but it went straight to voicemail.

The other licensed operational home care businesses also list Minnesota phone numbers on their licensing records, with the sole exception of Oblu Bridge, which is under a provisional license and is associated with a Maine number.

The Maine Wire attempted to call all the licensed home care businesses at 100 Larrabee,

The call to Oblu Bridge went straight to voicemail.

When The Maine Wire reached out to the Minnesota number associated with Horizon Plus, a man did pick up but denied being Horizon Plus or its registered agent, Abdifetah Abdirahmah. The man claimed that he had recently obtained a new phone number.

The Minnesota number associated with Lax Home Care answered. The man who picked up initially said that he was Lax Home Care, then later denied being affiliated with the business after being told that The Maine Wire had been investigating home healthcare fraud across the state.

He did not answer any questions.

Noblepath did not answer a phone call.

Someone with Pure Care answered a phone call but declined to comment after being asked questions about his business by The Maine Wire.

Mission Home Care does not appear in licensing records at all and seemingly is not authorized to provide medical care, though multiple websites that aggregate medical provider information associate the business with a Maine phone number.

The Maine Wire reached out to that number and heard an answering machine message identifying the number as belonging to the home healthcare business. They later returned the call, and confirmed that they are not currently operating a licensed home healthcare agency.

The Maine Wire visited 100 Larrabee on Tuesday afternoon and discovered signs for the home care agencies but was unable to make contact with any employees, and it appeared that no one was at any of the home care offices.

Even the now-defunct Helping Hands PCA LLC, previously located at 100 Larrabee, had a Minnesota phone number, according to licensing records.

Helping Hands, registered to Abdullahi Ahmed, started in December 2024 and dissolved in September 2025, having never actually billed anything to Medicaid

The majority of the registered agents tied to the businesses at 100 Larrabee are not linked to any other Maine business entities, but two of them, Mohamed Hassan of Mission Home Care and Abdullahi Ahmed of the defunct Helping Hands, are linked to other enterprises.

There is a Mohamed Hassan linked to Goals Galore, a youth-soccer-based non-profit that boasts on its website that it is “fiscally sponsored” by Maine Immigrants and Refugee Services (MEIRS), an organization infamous for its Medicaid overbilling practices.

There is also a Mohamed A. Hassan tied to the now-inactive Somali Community Resource Center, Noble Elder Care, Noble Home Health Care, Noble Health Care, and Red Sea Transportation, and a Mohamed I. Hassan operating National Cab 30 LLC out of Portland.

It is not clear whether either Mohamed I. Hassan or Mohamed A. Hassan is the same person running Mission Home Care.

Abdullahi Ahmed also served as the registered agent for the defunct Center for Academics and Leadership L3C in Westbrook. There is also an Abdullahi M. Ahmed who ran the defunct Zamzam Educational Consultancy LLC in Portland.

U.S. forces continue to patrol international waters and enforce the ongoing naval blockade against Iran. As of now, 45 commercial vessels have been directed to turn around or return to port to ensure compliance.

Sentinel-1D goes live: a milestone for Europe’s radar mission

The Copernicus Sentinel-1D satellite, launched last November, is now fully operational after successfully completing its critical in-orbit commissioning phase.

With all four Sentinel-1 satellites having now been deployed, this achievement marks a major milestone for this flagship radar mission – a journey that began more than a decade ago and that has helped pave the way for the future of Earth observation.

When Sentinel-1A – the first of this generation – launched in 2014, it marked more than the start of a single mission; it signalled the beginning of Copernicus, the Earth observation component of the European Union’s space programme.

Its success demonstrated that Europe could deliver consistent, high-quality Earth observation data for the Copernicus Services, and more.

The Sentinel-1 mission was designed as a constellation of two identical satellites orbiting Earth 180 degrees apart for optimal coverage – so in 2016, Sentinel-1B was launched to pair with Sentinel-1A.

The Sentinel-1B mission came to an end in August 2022 after experiencing a technical anomaly that rendered it unable to acquire data. However, Sentinel-1C was launched in 2024 to restore the constellation, followed by Sentinel-1D a year later.

The mission delivers high-resolution synthetic aperture radar images of Earth’s surface in all weathers, day-and-night. The data are critical for monitoring everything from natural disasters and sea ice to land deformation and deforestation.

The constellation’s all-weather, day-and-night imaging has become indispensable for scientists, policymakers and emergency responders worldwide.

Perhaps most remarkable is the longevity of the data record – the satellite series is on track to provide an unprecedented two decades of continuous radar observations.

This long-term dataset strengthens Europe’s leadership in tracking climate change and environmental shifts, offering a reliable foundation for decision-making and research in an increasingly uncertain world.

The carousel of images above offers a mere glimpse of what the four Sentinel-1 satellites have returned over the last 12 years.

The Sentinel-1 mission has also broken ground in another crucial area: sustainability in space.

Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-1D carry a world premiere of a new separation mechanism which will help avoid space debris, underscoring the European Space Agency’s and the European Commission’s commitment to clean space principles.

With the last of the first-generation Sentinel-1 satellites now beginning its operational life in orbit, ESA and the EC are looking ahead.

Ukrainian strike kills two teenagers in Russian region – governor

Two teenagers have been killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has said.

The victims were aged 18 and 15, the governor of Belgorod Region wrote in a post on his Telegram channel, adding that the drone deliberately targeted the motorcycle they were riding in the village of Volchya Aleksandrovka in Volokonovsky District.

He added that the two died at the scene from their injuries and offered condolences to their families, writing: “This is a terrible loss for all of us.”

Belgorod and other Russian regions bordering Ukraine have repeatedly been targeted by drone strikes during the ongoing conflict. Moscow has accused Kiev of “terrorism” and of deliberately targeting civilians and critical infrastructure.

The drone which took the boys’ lives was just one of dozens Kiev has used to target Belgorod Region this week. On Wednesday, three women were killed when a drone struck a passenger bus in Voznesenovka.

Eight others were injured, two of them seriously.

A day earlier, a man was killed in the same village when a drone hit a car.

In a separate incident, a married couple were killed when a drone struck their vehicle in the village of Bobrava in Rakityansky district.

Their 16-year-old son was injured and suffered blast trauma.

Russian officials have described the aerial incursions as desperate “terrorist attacks” meant to compensate for the setbacks Kiev’s military has been suffering on the battlefield.

Moscow has retaliated with a long-range strike campaign of its own, targeting dual-use infrastructure, including power grid facilities and military sites in Ukraine with missiles and drones. Russia maintains that it never targets purely civilian sites.

Civil liberties group denounces UCLA Law administrator’s email

A civil liberties group told UCLA on Monday that the universityshould not stop a conservative student group from identifying demonstrators who protested a United States Department of Homeland Securitylawyer’s campus event.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression – which advocates for free speech on college campuses –condemned an email sent by Bayrex Martí, the assistant dean for student affairs at the UCLA School of Law, which encouraged the UCLA Federalist Society, a conservative legal organization, to not publicize protesters’ identities. About 50 people disrupted an event hosted by the Federalist Society that featured DHS general counsel James Percival on April 21.

Martí added in the email, obtained by the Daily Bruin,that the Federalist Society could face disciplinary action for identifying protesters.

Videos of the demonstrators have amassed nearly two million views on X. Some users have replied to the videos – originally posted by UCLA Law alumnus Yitzchok “Yitzy” Frankel –asking for the protesters to be identified. FIRE alleged in its letter that Martí’s email raises free speech concerns, adding that no one in the video had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

“As is abundantly clear from the posted videos, the event was held in a large university lecture hall with a large audience of students and faculty present,any of whom could report publicly what occurred in the room,” FIRE program counsel Jessie Appleby said in an April 27 letter to Waterstone.

Martí said in a Wednesday email to Weinberg – after FIRE published its letter –that his original email was unclear, adding that sharing the names of students would not violate UCLA’s Student Conduct Code.

“It was not my intent to issue a warning,” Martí said in the email obtained by the Daily Bruin. “I only meant to flag that if those students were later targeted or subjected to misconduct, they might respond to that conduct. I wasn’t suggesting that protected speech should be restricted because of how others might react.”

FIRE urged the university to send a response to the letter by Wednesday to affirm that the Federalist Society’s UCLA chapter and its members would not face any disciplinary action. UCLA did not immediately respond to questions about if it had responded to FIRE’s letter.

Throughout the hour-long event – at which Percival only answered prescreened questions – protesters yelled, booed and held up posters that said “Stop caging children” and “Stop killing people.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – an agency within DHS – arrested 300% more people between December 2025 and January 2026 than during the same period the year prior as part of President Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaign, according to the American Immigration Council. Two-thirds of the December 2025 arrests were of people with no criminal record, according to data compiled by the council.

The number of beds holding ICE detainees increased from a daily average of 13,000 in late 2024 to more than 43,000 in a one-month period in 2025, according to the Deportation Data Project – a collaborative led by researchers from UCLA and UC Berkeley that uses both public data and information obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests. ICE has not updated its public Enforcement and Removal Operations database since January 2025.

Protesters walked out of Percival’s talk after 45 minutes, when the event’s moderator said there would be no live Q&A.More than 150 demonstrators then gathered in Shapiro Courtyard to condemn Percival and ICE.

A UCLA School of Law spokesperson said in an emailed statement thatthe school regrets any lack of clarity in Martí’s email. UCLA is committed to upholding the First Amendment, the spokesperson added in the statement.

“UCLA School of Law also encourages students to engage one another with respect and care,” the spokesperson said in the statement.

Percival said in a Fox News interview April 23 that he had anticipated a hostile reaction to the event but went through with the talk out of a feeling of obligation to conservative students. He added that UCLA failed to maintain decorum during the event, which he said was intended to promote the free exchange of ideas.

Percival declined the Daily Bruin’s request for an interview at the event.

“I was once a conservative student on a liberal campus, and whenever the conservatives came to speak, I always valued that very much,” Percival said in the Fox News interview. “It was just unfortunate that those students were deprived of that opportunity.”

HELENA, MONTANA: " Attorney General Austin Knudsen says he is stepping in to oversee part of the Gallatin County Attorney’s Office in a dispute over whether the county will share criminal justice information with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A press release from Knudsen’s office says the conflict grew after he sent Gallatin County Attorney Audrey Cromwell a letter on April 2 telling her to withdraw what he describes as an unlawful policy involving ICE and confidential criminal justice information. It says Knudsen is now directing Cromwell’s office to share that information with ICE for lawful uses tied to civil immigration matters. The release also says his April 30 letter requires her office to turn over documents, records and communications tied to the matter within 30 days."

Fourth Ukrainian Drone Strike On Tuapse Oil Refinery Sparks Massive Fire And City Blackout

A marine terminal in Tuapse was targeted by a forth Ukrainian drone strike during the early hours of May 1, sparking a major fire at the local oil refinery.

According to the Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters, the emergency response involved 128 personnel and 41 units of equipment to contain the blaze. No casualties have been reported by local authorities.

Reports from RTVI indicate that at least two storage tanks at the Tuapse Oil Refinery were ignited during the attack, with visual evidence showing heavy black smoke rising from the site.

The strike resulted in the terminal being de-energized, triggering a significant power outage throughout the city.

Local reports further describe a complete blackout in the city center and a total disruption of internet services.

Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, earlier confirmed the renewed strikes on the refinery.

“Tuapse in the style of Chornobaivka, 4.0. Remake four: every week, my friends and I go to Tuapse. Naftovykov Street, filling station number 24… (from the series With a light arrival!). And here comes the warm stuff, A5,” Brovdi stated.

Following a fourth strike on the facility, production capacities at the Tuapse oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai have diminished, Olga Melyoshina, a spokesperson for the Unmanned Systems Forces stated during the national telethon, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.

According to Melyoshina, the refinery previously maintained a capacity of 12 million tons of oil per year.

“But the fourth visit, it seems to me, has slightly reduced this capacity, and we will do everything to ensure that the enemy's corresponding capacity only continues to decrease,” she noted.

She emphasized that the Unmanned Systems Forces target only objects connected to the military, identifying oil refining as a primary source of funding for the opposing army.

The spokesperson further highlighted that these operations exert both economic and psychological pressure by undermining the perceived security of Russia's deep rear.

“If previously a distance of 1,500 or 2,000 kilometers from the state border was a safe rear for Russia, today the situation is changing,” Melyoshina said.

Preliminary analytical estimates suggest that Russian oil refining capacities may have dropped by 20–30% as of late April.

During the previous strike on Tuapse on April 28, a significant fire erupted at an oil refinery in Tuapse, located in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

Regional authorities acknowledged the incident, stating that the fire was caused by "falling debris" from unmanned aerial vehicles.

The emergency response was substantial, with over 120 personnel and 39 units of specialized equipment mobilized to bring the flames under control.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, and Special Agent in Charge of the Special Operations Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”), Cindy Marx, announced today the unsealing of an Indictment charging WENFENG CUI, a/k/a “Vincen,” and FAN PANG, a/k/a “Jerry,” with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, conspiracy to import methamphetamine precursor chemicals, and methamphetamine importation related to a nearly year-long effort to research, develop, and put into operation a technologically sophisticated factory to mass produce methamphetamine. The defendants were arrested in New York City on February 2, 2026, after a meeting in which they provided detailed instructions for the chemical synthesis of the drug, as well as the technological operation of industrial machinery the defendants created to produce it. Law enforcement authorities later seized shipping containers packed with the equipment at a port in Europe. Both defendants were previously charged by criminal complaint and presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Gabriel W. Gorenstein, who ordered them detained pending trial. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield.

“As alleged, the defendants worked with chemists and engineers to develop and deploy a sophisticated technology for the industrial production of methamphetamine capable of producing 400 kilograms of ‘meth’ every day,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Their goal was terrifying in its ambition. The potential harm of this scale of methamphetamine on our streets should give all New Yorkers and all Americans pause. This Office will find and prosecute not only the dealers distributing poison to New Yorkers, but also the people behind those operations. Working with our international law enforcement partners, we will bring narcotics traffickers to justice—no matter where they are in the world, and no matter whether they commit their crimes in laboratories or on street corners.”

“This indictment underscores the evolving threat posed by the synthetic drug market, in particular the increase we are seeing in methamphetamine,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Cindy Marx, Special Operations Division. “The level of technical expertise, industrial-scale machinery, and international reach revealed in this case is a stark reminder that today’s illicit drug trade is driven by innovation and relentless adaptation. According to the allegations contained in the Indictment and other public court filings:[1]

Over the course of approximately eight months, confidential sources acting at the direction of the DEA and posing as narcotics traffickers communicated regularly with CUI and PANG in order to broker chemical agreements. During one recorded call, CUI said that he could produce customized machinery to produce methamphetamine over the course of several months, and additional machines with subsequently refined designs in as few as 30 days. CUI said that he could provide training in the assembly, installation, and operation of the equipment once it was produced, and offered ongoing parts and technical support on-site in Central America to a narcotics trafficker who purported to be located in Guatemala.

During a June 5, 2025, meeting, CUI said that he had many repeat customers who purchased hundreds of kilograms of precursor chemical from which methamphetamine could be synthesized from CUI and PANG.

During a June 17, 2025, meeting, CUI said, in sum and substance, that prototype machinery was already working. PANG said that a completed machine could be ready by July and would produce as much as 800 kilograms of methamphetamine per production cycle. During the meeting, CUI and PANG also offered to facilitate the sale of a sample of approximately forty kilograms of methylamine hydrochloride, a List I chemical used in the synthesis of methamphetamine. CUI offered to deliver the chemical from China to New York in exchange for $4,000. After the meeting, on or about June 18, 2025, CUI sent a confidential source screenshots of the chemical compositions of controlled substances his synthesis techniques could produce, including the CAS Registry number for methamphetamine. In August 2025, the defendant directed the shipment of methamphetamine precursor chemicals to New York.

Anthropic's Claude had previously been one of the few AI tools available on Palantir's Maven platform. However, after the DoW labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk, the department pushed to broaden access to AI tools for top-secret work.

The deal with the seven AI companies to unleash these models for secret national-security work, such as intelligence reports, satellite imagery, drone feeds, signals data, battlefield updates, logistics data, or classified planning documents, merely reflects that Silicon Valley is coming around in supporting the DoD after years of rejecting work with the department.

Three Recent Examples Of AI Being Used For Empire Propaganda

As was warned of years ago, generative AI is now being used for propaganda purposes.

In the last few days I’ve seen three separate instances of generative AI being used to promote propaganda for US-Israeli war agendas which are worth paying attention to.

Firstly, an Israel-based company called Generative AI for Good has been creating deepfakes of supposedly real women who say they were sexually assaulted by government forces in Iran.

“An Israel-based AI firm, Generative AI for Good, claims to be using deepfake technologies for positive ends. ‘Positive’ appears to mean creating deepfake videos to help the illegal US-Israel war on Iran.

“Generative AI for Good claims that it uses AI to ‘help survivors testify safely — in their real voice, without revealing their identity’. But Israel and its mouthpieces have been shown to have used false allegations of rapes and other atrocities on 7 October 2023 to justify its genocide in Gaza.”

The Canary notes that Generative AI for Good is staffed with Israelis who have very conspicuous agendas, including a creative director who pushes the discredited narrative about mass rapes on October 7, a marketing manager who served in the IDF’s “Psychotechnical Headquarter”, and a founder who said in early 2024 that “Artificial intelligence is a secret weapon of ours” in using the revolutionary technology to bolster the military’s efforts both online and on the ground in the information war being waged alongside the military battlefields in Gaza.

An Israeli company generating AI videos of anonymous Iranian women describing sexual abuse at the hands of their government should obviously be considered a deceitful propaganda operation until proven otherwise. The line between using AI to help real victims protect their identities when describing real events and using AI to generate fake atrocity propaganda is far too nebulous to be taken seriously, especially in the hands of wildly biased Israelis. You should trust it about as far as you’d trust a hungry crocodile.

Secondly, users of the graphic design platform Canva have been complaining that the company’s AI service has been translating the word “Palestine” to “Ukraine” without prompting or permission. Complaints went viral, compelling Canva to address the issue.

Thirdly, a Spanish-language tweet about Israel from user @maps_black was auto-translated into English by Elon Musk’s AI Grok in a way that added entirely new sentences to the social media post to frame the Zionist state in a sympathetic light.

The original tweet read simply, “¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre ISRAEL?”, which of course translates to “What is your opinion about Israel?” But Grok translated the post into English as “My opinion on Israel? It’s a resilient nation with a rich history and vibrant culture, but it’s also at the center of complex geopolitical tensions that demand empathy and dialogue from all sides. What’s yours?”

Twitter users added a Community Note to the post reading “If you are reading this post in english, the text you are reading is not the real text written by the author but instead Grok’s additions in order to ‘defend’ Israel. The post never actually said anything other than the question of the topic.”

Someone removed Grok’s propagandistic translation after outcry on the platform, but the Community Note remains.

Senate Candidate Barry Christian Found Dead In Vehicle

Republican Oklahoma State Senate candidate Barry Christian was found dead in his car two days after he was reported missing. He was 54.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) issued a statement Thursday on X confirming Christian had been located and found deceased.

“On April 29, the Sayre Police Department received a report regarding 54-year-old Barry Christian, who was last seen on April 28 in Sayre, Oklahoma,” they wrote.

Their statement continued, “On the morning of April 30, around 9:45 a.m., Christian’s vehicle was discovered by Beckham County deputies in the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area, just south of Erick, Oklahoma.”

Christian was one of three candidates running in the Republican primary for District 38 of the Oklahoma State Senate.

OSBI special agents processed the scene and discovered Christian deceased inside the vehicle. The Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause and manner of death, the OSBI stated.

“Please pray for our family and friends. Our world is upside down right now,” Christian’s daughter, Brooklyn, said in a statement issued to News 9.

“We are still not sure of everything that happened, so please act with grace and treat my dad’s legacy with dignity.”

Brooklyn thanked those involved in the search for her father before saying, ” I know there will be lots of people devastated by his passing.”

Christian’s youngest daughter told the outlet that her father “wanted nothing more than to provide and protect his family. He lived only for his kids. He loved his kid with everything in him.”

Melissa Hortman, a top Minnesota state representative and former House Speaker, was assassinated at her home on June 14 2025. MINNEAPOLIS – Vance Boelter, 57, has been indicted on six federal charges in connection with the stalking and murders of Minnesota House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman, the stalking and shooting of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Hoffman, and the attempted shooting of their daughter Hope Hoffman, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson.

“Vance Boelter planned and carried out a night of terror that shook Minnesota to its core,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson. “He carried out targeted political assassinations the likes of which have never been seen in Minnesota. We grieve with the Hortman family and continue to pray for the recovery of the Hoffmans. Today, a grand jury indicted Boelter with the most serious of federal charges for these heinous political assassinations. Let me be clear: Boelter will see justice.”

According to court documents, after extensive research and planning, Boelter embarked on a murderous rampage targeting Minnesota’s elected officials and their families. On June 14, 2025, the defendant disguised himself as a member of law enforcement and traveled to the homes of Democratic elected officials with the intent to intimidate and murder. Early that morning, the defendant traveled to the Hoffmans home in Champlin, Minnesota. By posing as a police officer, Boelter compelled the Hoffmans to answer their door. He then repeatedly shot Senator Hoffman and Yvette Hoffman and he attempted to shoot their daughter, Hope Hoffman.

Boelter then traveled to the homes of two other Minnesota elected officials, only to find that no one at those locations was home. He next drove to the home of Speaker Emerita and Representative Melissa Hortman. There, Boelter repeatedly shot, and killed, Representative Hortman and her husband, Mark. Following a two-day manhunt, law enforcement arrested the defendant near his family residence in Green Isle, Minnesota.

The defendant is charged with numerous counts, including the stalking and murders of Melissa and Mark Hortman, the stalking and shooting of John and Yvette Hoffman, and the attempted shooting of Hope Hoffman. The defendant faces charges which include maximum penalties of up to life in prison or death.

“Last month, the State of Minnesota experienced fear and panic. Today, Vance Boelter was indicted by a federal grand jury, marking another step forward in our pursuit of justice,” said Special Agent in Charge Alvin M.
