Federal prosecutors in Miami announced that a former U.S. congressman and a lobbyist were convicted of secretly acting as unregistered agents for Venezuela while allegedly using political connections and millions in foreign cash to influence U.S. policy behind closed doors.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, former Congressman David Rivera and political consultant Esther Nuhfer were found guilty after a federal jury concluded they covertly lobbied on behalf of the Venezuelan regime without registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

Prosecutors said the operation involved a $50 million contract tied to Venezuela’s state-run oil interests.

A federal jury in Miami found a former U.S. Congressman and lobbyist guilty of secretly lobbying on behalf of the Venezuelan government and laundering millions of dollars tied to that work, in violation of the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).

“These convictions expose a simple truth: the defendants sold access and influence to a hostile foreign regime for money,” said U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida. “They accepted millions tied to the Maduro regime, concealed that relationship from the United States government, and used trusted personal and political relationships to secretly advance the interests of Venezuela’s regime. In South Florida, where so many families fled communist oppression, that kind of betrayal carries real weight. The Foreign Agents Registration Act exists to protect transparency and safeguard our democracy from covert foreign influence. If you secretly act on behalf of a foreign government in violation of federal law, you will be investigated, prosecuted, and convicted.”

"Today’s verdict sends a clear and powerful message: our democratic processes are not for sale to foreign adversaries. Choosing to prioritize personal greed over legal transparency, David Rivera and Esther Nuhfer violated the Foreign Agent Registration Act by lobbying for the interests and benefit of the Venezuelan government,” said Brett Skiles, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Miami. “Using coded messages and laundering millions of dollars to fund personal lifestyles and political campaigns, these defendants thought they could operate in the shadows. This conviction proves that no matter how much 'coded language' is used or how high-ranking the conspirators may be, the FBI and its partners will remain steadfast in identifying and investigating those who covertly serve foreign interests at the expense of the American public's trust."

According to court records and evidence presented at trial, David Rivera, 60, and Esther Nuhfer, 51, obtained a $50 million contract with a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-owned and state-controlled oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), to advance the interests of the Venezuelan regime in the U.S. Without registering as foreign agents as required by law, Rivera and Nuhfer lobbied U.S. officials — including then-U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and U.S. Representative Pete Sessions — and arranged meetings between U.S. policymakers and high-ranking Venezuelan officials, including then-President Nicolas Maduro and then-Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez. In text message exchanges, Rivera and Nuhfer used coded language to describe their activities.

The evidence further showed that Rivera used approximately $600,000 from the contract proceeds to fund his Florida state congressional campaign, among other personal uses. Nuhfer used approximately $455,000 of the proceeds for the purchase of a residence in Key Colony Beach.

The jury found Rivera guilty of conspiracy to violate FARA, a violation of FARA, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and four counts of engaging in transactions in criminally derived property. Nuhfer was convicted of conspiracy to violate FARA, a violation of FARA, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and one count of engaging in transactions in criminally derived property.

Rivera faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison. Nuhfer faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Deprivation Of Rights Under Color Of Law

Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

For the purpose of Section 242, acts under "color of law" include acts not only done by federal, state, or local officials within their lawful authority, but also acts done beyond the bounds of that official's lawful authority, if the acts are done while the official is purporting to or pretending to act in the performance of his/her official duties. A South Korean Earth-observation satellite has successfully entered low-Earth orbit following its launch from a U.S. space base in California, authorities said Sunday, in a move expected to help bolster Seoul's satellite development capabilities.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the satellite lifted off at 12 a.m. Saturday (U.S. time) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California.

The satellite, called Compact Advanced Satellite (CAS) 500-2, was separated from the launch vehicle about one hour after liftoff, and it was successfully put into orbit, according to the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA).

The next-generation midsized satellite No. 2 succeeded in making its first communication with a ground station in Norway about 15 minutes following the separation from the rocket. KASA said it identified the satellite as normally working.

The satellite was developed for disaster monitoring and agricultural observation. Following a four-month initial operation period, the CAS500-2 will perform its mission together with the CAS500-1 starting in the second half of this year.

The CAS500-2 had been originally scheduled to launch on a Russian Soyuz rocket in 2022 but the deployment was delayed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The 534-kilogram CAS500-2 is capable of high-resolution Earth observation, featuring a ground resolution of 0.5 meters in black-and-white images and 2 meters in color.

KASA said key components of the CAS500-2 platform and payload were developed with homegrown technology, noting that South Korea's space technology independence has been strengthened with the successful launch of the satellite.

"The successful launch of CAS500-2 marked a major milestone in opening the private-led space era," KASA Administrator Oh Tae-seog said, stressing that it will help bolster the country's satellite technology competitiveness by independently securing high-precision imagery capabilities.

Ukrainian drone strikes Europe’s largest nuclear power plant – operator

The Ukrainian military has targeted an external radiation control laboratory at Russia’s Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), the facility’s press service has said in a statement on Telegram.

Ukrainian forces have repeatedly attacked Europe’s largest nuclear facility since it came under Russian control in 2022, soon after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict. The power plant is located in Zaporozhye Region, which officially voted to join Russia in a fall 2022 referendum.

The laboratory targeted in the Sunday attack facilitates the round-the-clock monitoring of the radiological environment at the plant and is vital for planning any emergency response operations, the press service said.

“Such actions pose a threat not only for the nuclear security but also the for the radiological environment control system,” it added, warning that any damage to the laboratory could affect the timely assessment of the situation and response in case of emergency.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitoring team working at the station have been promptly alerted about the incident, the press service said.

According to the statement, the strike did not result in any “critical” material damage or casualties and did not disrupt the operation of the power plant.

The UN nuclear watchdog confirmed receiving the report from the ZNPP and requested access to the lab for further inspection, the IAEA said in a post on X.

Its Director General Rafael Grossi also condemned the strike by saying that “any attacks near nuclear sites can pose nuclear safety risks.”

The Monday attack came a day after Grossi visited Kiev for talks with Vladimir Zelensky, during which the Ukrainian leader urged the IAEA to pressure Russia to hand over control of the plant.

Ukraine has also repeatedly sought to interject proposals to take control of the plant into US-mediated peace talks with Russia.

Moscow has firmly rejected the idea of handing over the plant or allowing for its joint ownership with Ukraine or any NATO nations, citing a high risk of sabotage.

Massive Drone Attack Targets Primorsk Oil Port in Russia’s Leningrad Region

The Leningrad region in northwestern Russia faced a massive drone assault during the night of May 2-May 3, marking one of the largest reported raids on the province to date.

Regional governor Alexander Drozdenko initially reported the destruction of 35 drones, with the figure eventually rising to over 60 as the attack continued toward dawn.

Russian officials stated that the primary target of the operation was the commercial sea port of Primorsk.

While Drozdenko claimed the fire resulting from the attack was extinguished without an oil spill, local reports and OSINT analysts suggest that an oil loading terminal may have been damaged.

Russian authorities reported a wave of more than 60 drones targeting the Primorsk commercial port, forcing the closure of Saint Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport for several hours.

Furthermore, analysts indicated that the fire might reflect a strike on a “Pantsir” air defense system protecting the facility.

As a result of the regional drone threat, St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport implemented “Carpet” emergency plans, halting all flight arrivals and departures for at least five hours.

The Russian defense ministry claimed that its forces intercepted a total of 334 drones over 16 different regions overnight.

The escalation aligns with Ukraine’s ongoing strategic campaign to degrade Russia’s energy logistics. Ukrainian forces have previously targeted Baltic Sea export hubs, including the Ust-Luga and Vysotsk terminals, to reduce Moscow’s war revenue.

In April, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed successful strikes on multiple refineries and pumping stations deep inside Russian territory, describing them as critical to the Russian military’s supply chain.

A recent festival in southern Nigeria has sparked outrage after multiple videos surfaced online showing women being chased through the streets, stripped and sexually assaulted by groups of men in broad daylight.

The footage, recorded during the annual Alue-Do fertility festival in Ozoro, Delta State, has prompted a police investigation and resulted in several arrests, with authorities confirming that multiple suspects were in custody.

The videos have sparked global outcry, with many online describing the event as a “rape festival,” a term that highlights the scale and brutality of what was captured on camera.

In clips circulating on social media, women are seen running through crowded streets while groups of men pursue them. Moments later, the women are surrounded, their clothing torn off as they are groped and assaulted, while bystanders film and shout, with some appearing to cheer.

This wasn’t an isolated incident.

Multiple videos appear to show similar attacks unfolding across various locations during the festival, involving large groups of men and even young boys. Many of the victims, believed to be female students from a nearby university, have reportedly been hospitalized.

The scale of the violence and the number of participants quickly turned the incident into a national and international flashpoint, prompting a response from authorities.

Police in Delta State confirmed the arrest of multiple suspects in connection with the attacks, including a community leader and four young men identified in viral videos. Investigations are still ongoing.

State police spokesperson Bright Edafe said those involved would face charges, while Delta Police Commissioner Aina Adesola ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

“The Commissioner of Police has instructed that the suspects be transferred to the State CID without delay. The Commissioner is committed to ensuring that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice,” Edafe said.

Describing the incident as sexual assault and public humiliation, Edafe noted that no formal rape complaints had been filed at the time and urged victims and witnesses to come forward with any information.

In the days that followed, the number of arrested suspects rose, with more than a dozen people in custody as investigators comb through videos and witness accounts. Police said the arrests were the result of a targeted investigation, adding that more suspects could still be identified as the probe continues.

But even as arrests were being made, authorities were also beginning to shape how the incident was understood. The police described the attacks in a preliminary finding as the work of “criminal elements” who hijacked the festival, a framing that attempts to separate the violence from the cultural event itself.

Local community leaders went further, denying that any rape had taken place and insisting the festival had been “misinterpreted.”

In a statement, they described the Alue-Do festival as a fertility ritual, saying symbolic acts such as dragging and pouring sand on individuals are traditionally meant to invoke blessings for couples struggling to conceive.

They added that claims of widespread sexual violence were “false and misleading,” maintaining that no rape had been officially recorded despite the multiple videos circulating online.

The leaders acknowledged that some individuals may have acted “irresponsibly,” but stressed that such behavior was not part of the tradition and should not be seen as representative of the festival itself.

However, that explanation has done little to reduce the backlash. Throughout social media, reactions have been swift and furious.

Videos of the attacks have been viewed millions of times across Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), with many viewers shocked not only by the blatant violence, but how it was carried out in broad daylight and without intervention.

Different videos showed groups of men laughing and filming as they closed in on victims. In one clip, a young woman is seen crying and clutching her torn clothes while being assaulted by men who surround her.

One of the victims, Ezeugo Ijeoma Rosemary, a student, told authorities she was attacked moments after arriving near the area on a bike.

“Immediately I came down, they started shouting ‘hold her, hold her, that’s a woman’, and they swooped on me like bees,” she said.

“A large crowd started pulling my clothes until they stripped me naked. They were pulling my breasts and touching my whole body … I was shouting for help.”

She said she was eventually rescued by a bystander, but her phone was taken, adding that she is still dealing with pain and trauma and has not returned to school since the incident.

The visibility of the attacks has transformed the story from isolated incidents to a troubling pattern of collective violence in public spaces, perpetuated by a large group of men.

Local reports suggest that women were required to stay indoors during parts of the festival, with those who did not comply facing public targeting.

This context frames the footage as less random chaos and more as a response to an environment actively challenging women’s presence in public, sometimes violently.

Women’s rights advocates say the incident points to a deeper problem, one that extends beyond a single event.

“This is not just about what happened in those videos,” said Rita Aiki, a gender rights advocate with the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA).

“It’s about the conditions that make it possible for this kind of violence to happen in public, with so many people watching and no one stepping in.”

For many, the reaction surrounding the attacks has been as disturbing as the violence itself.

“It tells you something about what is being normalized in a given society,” Aiki said.

“When people can do this in the open, and others treat it like spectacle, it goes beyond individual actions.”

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of women in public spaces, especially during large gatherings where accountability can easily diminish.

While authorities have stressed that the festival does not support violence, critics argue that separating the tradition from the incident does little to clarify how such attacks could happen openly and on such a large scale.

A devastating drone strike targeted the family home of a high-profile military commander in central Sudan late Saturday, killing nine people, including six children.

The attack, which struck the village of Al-Kahli approximately 40 kilometers east of Wad Madani, marks a significant escalation in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as the Sudanese conflict enters its fourth year.

Several states in the United States, including South Carolina, are now dealing with a persistent and growing problem of drone deliveries into prison grounds. These deliveries often occur in the middle of the night and reportedly drop contraband for inmates.

According to a CNN report, there has been a massive surge in drone deliveries at prisons across the country, especially in South Carolina prisons.

Earlier this winter, a drone flew into the Turbeville Correctional Institution yard and dropped a three-foot package before speeding away, the captain of the drone hunting team for South Carolina's state prisons told the news outlet.

Inside the package, officials as per the report recovered tobacco, marijuana, ecstasy, and four phones, which the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) predicts are worth a combined $165,700 in the “prison economy.”

State attorneys general write to National Security Council

The problem has reportedly become so pervasive that state attorneys general from at least 21 states wrote a letter to the US National Security Council in March and sought help to handle the steep increase in drone drops over prison grounds, namely through the loosening of restrictions that they say limit the way state and local law enforcement can respond.

The attorneys general wrote, "This type of illegal activity is happening all over the country, and the consequences are severe," adding, "The introduction of drugs contributes to addiction, violence, and overdose incidents.

Smuggled weapons heighten the risk of assaults and coordinated acts of violence. Contraband cell phones enable incarcerated individuals to continue criminal enterprises, including fraud schemes, witness intimidation, and violent crime.”

Drone drops a regular occurrence for South Carolina

While contraband is not a new problem in the US, dropping it via drones has become a regular occurrence for the South Carolina drone captain.

This year, as of April 24, its 21 state prisons have dealt with 75 drone smuggling incidents and recorded 273 such incidents in 2025, according to a department spokesperson.

Drones now fly right up to a prison yard or an inmate's window and deliver a package. Describing it, a South Carolina drone captain said, "kind of like a DoorDash."

Other methods of sneaking contraband into a prison include throwing it over a facility's fence, coordinating via the mail, and, in some cases, involving corrupt corrections officers.

Increasing trend of weapons smuggling in prison via drones

South Carolina is among the many states that are now witnessing a surge in weapons like knives and blades entering prison facilities via drones.

Earlier in March, Florida’s attorney general announced an 81-year prison sentence for a man convicted of orchestrating a drone smuggling operation that delivered razor blades, drugs, and other contraband to multiple facilities in March.

In New York, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision called for stronger laws after detecting a drone carrying double-edged knives near a facility in Utica.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s attorney general said the state averages 58 drone-related prison incidents each month, often involving weapons, razors, and narcotics.

While the drones most frequently bring in contraband items like drugs, cell phones, and weapons, SCDC noted that they have encountered some of the more unusual goods entering the facility.

Authorities warn that existing legal and technological limitations are struggling to keep pace, leaving prisons vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated deliveries that fuel violence, addiction, and criminal networks behind bars.

As incidents continue to rise nationwide, officials stress that stronger federal coordination, updated laws, and advanced counter-drone measures will be critical to regaining control of prison airspace and safeguarding both inmates and staff.

“My point is that the loudest focus around the UAP topic is currently directed towards the technology of the observed craft. But that's missing the point. If they are here at all, it's surely for some very good reason that has nothing to do with their propulsion tech.

In looking for the answers behind this phenomena, we have focused too much on the "effect" (the current presence of UAP craft) and not enough on the "cause" behind WHY they might be here.

In general, the "why" behind most intelligent actions usually comes down to some survival based need. So what survival based need might these craft have to be here?

The greys are from the future, they evolved after the cataclysm, and want to ensure their future existence. OK. Another earlier faction of travelers would prefer for us all to stay human by preventing this cataclysm. Ok.

But what is the "why" that has generated this whole situation? The atmosphere gets royally fucked up in the future, and creates an evolutionary divergence.

Some would like this divergence to continue to occur, and some would like to stop it. But the "cause" that generates this divergence is the atmosphere getting fucked up, and how the chemistry of the new atmosphere interacts with our bodies to cause us to change.

THAT either happening or not happening is what matters most to the greys. And that's an issue of chemistry and biology, not so much physics.

So the BIGGEST issue on our minds shouldn't necessarily be trying to figure out the technology behind the craft. That's important, but still missing the point.

If the greys had strategic targets that they'd like to travel back in time to ice well in advance, it wouldn't necessarily be targets who were into physics. It would more likely be targets who understand climate science and biology and all the other critical elements of the cataclysm that cause the greys to either evolve into themselves or not. The people who might know how to reverse or prevent atmospheric catastrophe, or how to harden our bodies against it and survive it etc.

Whether the cause of the atmospheric cataclysm is caused by an asteroid or something else, it all comes down to the chemistry of what we breathe and how it interacts with our bodies to either evolve the survivors into the greys or not.

None of which is related to the propulsion tech of the UAPs, that is a secondary distraction. We have up until now failed ourselves by super epically missing the point.
