An increasing number of patients are requesting “unvaccinated” blood for transfusions, which can delay care and pose risks to patients’ health, experts warn.

There is no evidence that unvaccinated blood presents any safety benefit, according to a new study published in the journal Transfusion.

There is currently no process for checking whether donated blood comes from vaccinated or unvaccinated donors, experts say.

Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, which conducted the research, received 15 requests for unvaccinated blood between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2025. The median age of patients was 17 years old and more than half were children, the university reported.

“Despite being framed as ‘safer,’ directed donations may paradoxically increase risk.”

Among the studied patient group, two became much sicker after refusing a standard blood transfusion.

One patient developed anemia, a condition where the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen. The other developed hemodynamic shock, a serious condition in which there is insufficient blood flow and oxygen to the body’s tissues, potentially leading to organ failure.

Requests for unvaccinated blood spiked after the approval of COVID-19 vaccines, posing a “recurring challenge for transfusion services and clinicians,” the researchers stated.

“These requests were associated with care delays, escalation and inefficiencies,” they indicated.

Virginia Governor Signs Law Banning 'Ghost Guns'

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a bill to ban so-called “ghost guns,” another making it easier to sue gunmakers and sellers, and two other bills concerning possession of firearms by persons under court orders.

The bills - signed on April 10 - are among more than two dozen gun control and gun safety bills that the Virginia General Assembly sent to Spanberger after its regular session ended on March 24.

“Preventing gun violence is an issue of public safety - both for the officers who protect our streets and the children and families they work to keep safe,” the governor said in a statement.

Spanberger signed Senate Bill 323, which bans the manufacture, sale, and possession of firearms without serial numbers.

The new law also outlaws any gun that “after removal of all parts other than a major component, ... is not detectable as a firearm when subjected to inspection by the types of detection devices, including X-ray machines, commonly used at airports, government buildings, schools, correctional facilities, and other locations for security screening.”

Senate Bill 27, which Spanberger also signed, sets standards of “responsible conduct” for firearm manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.

It calls for “reasonable controls” over the manufacture, sale, distribution, use, and marketing of firearm-related products.

It also allows the attorney general, local government attorneys, or private citizens to sue firearm businesses for injunctions, damages, and costs.

Spanberger also signed two bills concerning the possession of firearms by those under court orders.

A newly surfaced video shows a bleary-eyed Eric Swalwell in a robe during a blow-out trip on a yacht off St. Tropez with a bevvy of young women, Page Six has learned.

The mysterious clip appeared on social media Sunday as Swalwell was hit with sexual harassment allegations that forced him first to drop out of the California governor’s race and then resign from Congress. Swalwell has denied the sexual misconduct allegations.

But we’ve learned the context of the stunning footage.

Sources tell us that in early September 2022, two of Swalwell’s pals jetted by private plane from Las Vegas to the French Riviera town where they chartered the 200 ft Arience yacht, and called Swalwell to come join them.

We’re told the now-former Congressman arrived by commercial flight and joined them by tender on the stunning luxury craft.

We’re told there were some four or five men on the boat, including Swalwell, and a group of beautiful young women.

According to our source, one of the women, a Brit believed to be in her late teens, appeared to be romantically involved with one of the men in the group. But the five or six other women, a mix of Brits and Americans who were a little older (apparently in their 20s), seemed otherwise unacquainted both with the group or with each other.

“The people on the boat were told to keep it hush-hush about Swalwell being on the trip,” said a source familiar with the week-long excursion around the French Riviera. “They were told everything stays on the boat.”

The former Bay Area representative had been in Congress nine years by the time of the getaway.

“It didn’t seem like a politician,” said a source familiar with the antics aboard, “More like president of a frat house.”

We’re told some of the women seemed to be shipped back to shore, never to return, while others arrived to “replace them.”

We’re told the trip had a bacchanalian feel with booze flowing freely, and that the group filled their days with jet skiing and lounging on the deck.

The source said that they weren’t specifically aware of Swalwell being sexually or romantically involved with any of the women

Eric Swalwell Says ‘I Plan to Resign’ from Congress After Stream of Sexual Assault Accusations

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) announced his intention to resign from his seat in the U.S. House on Monday following a wave of sexual assault accusations that upended his bid for California governor.

Young women and girls lured or sold into marriages in Israel to Bedouin men describe physical, sexual and emotional abuse, while authorities have largely ignored the phenomenon

Nothing about Intissar catches your eye. She wears just a little makeup, her veil is arranged nicely and her jewelry is unobtrusive. Her speech is ordinary, too, maybe too ordinary.

She relates her life story in a monotone, as if she were talking about someone she knew only casually. Not a single tear flows. The pain and sadness come across in her words, not her tone.

Calmly, Intissar (not her real name) describes how her father sold her to a man for 1,000 shekels ($330); she was then beaten and raped. The daughters she would have also became the targets of the man's angry outbursts, and her relatives turned their backs on her. For years she felt trapped.

That's how it is when a woman without Israeli citizenship is forced into a marriage with a man she doesn't know. But the feeling of being all alone isn't unique to Intissar, 33. Both victims and experts told Haaretz how this widespread problem has been largely ignored.

Thousands of women are believed to have been brought to Israel from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jordan to be the second wife in a polygamous marriage. Most are from poor families and are often brought in by force. When they reach Israel, they discover that without citizenship, and often without any legal status, they're almost completely dependent on their husbands. This creates fertile ground for control, exploitation and helplessness.

There are cases where women are sold or moved between family members like property while suffering constant sexual assault. Many times, when the marriage isn't framed as a business deal, it has the characteristics of human trafficking, with the woman also facing the constant threat of deportation or separation from her children.

In some cases, the woman masquerades as a caregiver for an older man, or as the manager of the first wife's household. But the husband isn't always eager to help the victim gain legal status, leaving her with a difficult dilemma. The first option is to remain with her husband on his terms, without being able to open a bank account, access public health care or seek legal assistance. The second is to notify the authorities and risk deportation and separation from her children, probably forever.

Intissar is one of a minority who chose the second option, but only after years of abuse, only some of which she could have imagined.

She grew up in a West Bank village in a home where fear was the norm. She says her father was an alcoholic who regularly beat his family. Their finances were so desperate that her disabled sister was forced to beg. Intissar tried to build a different future; she finished high school, worked and started studying accounting.

A pro-life activist has received a seven-figure settlement nearly four years after an early morning FBI raid on his home generated outrage and concern about the federal government’s treatment of pro-life advocates outside abortion clinics.

In a statement published Thursday, the pro-life advocacy group 40 Days for Life Institute of Law & Justice announced that pro-life activist Mark Houck won a settlement of over $1 million nearly four years after the early morning FBI raid on his home generated outrage. Houck, a devout Catholic father of seven, was charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act by the Biden administration in 2022.

The FACE Act subjects anyone who “intentionally injures, intimidates, or interferes with or attempts to injure, intimidate or interfere with any person” who provides or assists in the provision of abortions to federal charges. The charges against Houck stemmed from an incident that took place as Houck and his son prayed outside an abortion clinic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in October 2021.

While the U.S. Department of Justice alleged that Houck “twice assaulted a man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort,” requiring the escort to receive “medical attention,” a fundraiser set up to pay for Houck’s legal expenses told a different story: “Last year, Mark and his son were praying in front of the PP at 12th and Locust. When one of the escorts began harassing Mark’s son they walked down the street away from the entrance to the building. WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice under former President Joe Biden “withheld evidence” and approved “aggressive arrest tactics” when targeting pro-life defendants — and then slapped them with longer prison sentences than pro-abortion ones, according to an explosive internal review released Tuesday.

The DOJ revealed the stunning abuses in a nearly 900-page report after examining more than 700,000 records related to the Biden administration’s prosecutions under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.

The 1994 law was passed to protect access to houses of worship, religious institutions, abortion clinics and pregnancy resource centers.

But the Biden DOJ was found to have engaged multiple times in “biased enforcement” of it — while also collaborating with and even seeking to fund pro-abortion groups, according to the DOJ Office of Legal Policy report.

Former Attorney General Merrick Garland set up a national task force to pursue cases against pro-lifers the month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

Emails show the task force, led by civil division trial attorney Sanjay Patel, worked closely with Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Feminist Majority Foundation and the National Abortion Federation’s Security Team to initiate investigations and “monitor” pro-life activists — sometimes for years — before requesting arrest warrants and filing charges.

Famed Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz says he believes President Donald Trump could have grounds to expunge his 2019 impeachment in the House after bombshell new evidence revealed the intelligence community failed to disclose that his main accuser had the potential for bias, made a false statement and only had hearsay to back up his allegations.

Dershowitz, a Democrat at the time who worked to defend Trump at the impeachment trial that ended in the president's acquittal, said it would be "an interesting, novel approach" for Trump to go to Chief Justice John Roberts, who presided over the case, or Congress and ask for the impeachment to be reversed because the defense team was denied the right to confront his accusers with exculpatory evidence.

"It's never been done. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done," Dershowitz said during an interview Monday night on the Just the News, No Noise television show. "Impeachment is a quasi-judicial procedure, whether you have to go back to Congress and ask them to expunge it or go to the courts.

"But I have to tell you one thing, history will expunge it already based on your work, because what you've done is you've created so much doubt about the credibility of the main accuser that it's hard for anybody to sit back now and say that was a just, a just impeachment, but I don't know that there's going to be any remedy," he added. "Maybe we should try to create one."

Just the News reported Sunday night that the U.S. intelligence watchdog developed derogatory evidence about the CIA analyst who prompted the 2019 Ukraine-focused impeachment, including that he submitted false information in his whistleblower complaint, offered hearsay to support his allegations and had the "potential for bias," according to memos newly declassified by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard at the request of Just the News.

Investigators for the Intelligence Community Inspector General documented several concerns about the Trump accuser's political motives, noting he admitted he was a "registered Democrat" who had worked closely with Joe Biden on Ukraine issues and who disliked some of the conservative figures in the president's orbit, the memos show.

The investigators also elicited an apology from the Trump accuser for misleading the probe and were acutely aware his allegations were based solely on second- and third-hand accounts about what Trump was alleged to have said and done.

“I do not have direct knowledge of private comments or communications by the President,” the alleged whistleblower, who claimed Trump improperly tried to pressure Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate Hunter Biden, admitted in his initial August 2019 intake form.

That stunning line on the limitations of the whistleblower's knowledge was not included in the nine-page letter then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., released in late summer 2019 that touched off a months-long political maelstrom and led to Trump's impeachment by a Democrat-led House and his eventual acquittal in the Senate.

The revelations elicited shock and dismay across Washington, D.C., on Monday, including:

FBI Director Kash Patel's chief spokesman revealed the bureau is "closely' reviewing the new evidence about the Ukraine impeachment accuser and believes it mirrors tactics similar to the now discredited Russia collusion probe against Trump that began in 2016.

"The declassified impeachment memos show the so-called whistleblower behind the 2019 impeachment singled out Director Patel by name, relied on hearsay, submitted false claims, and had documented political bias — all of which was hidden from the American people," FBI spokesman Ben Williamson wrote on his X account.

Gabbard issued a statement saying she believed the former Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson had "weaponized" the whistleblower process and "manufactured a conspiracy" by forwarding the allegations against Trump to Congress in summer 2019 when there were serious concerns about their reliability and credibility.

Federal prosecutors engaged in "inappropriate conduct and comments" and knowingly withheld evidence from defense counsels.

The Biden administration "weaponized" enforcement of the FACE Act to infringe the rights of pro-life activists by creating a dragnet with pro-abortion groups to squash protests and target prosecutions and doling out more harsh prison sentences to violators who opposed abortion than those who supported it, the Justice Department declared Tuesday after a sweeping review.

"The Biden DOJ violated the rights of Americans through its biased enforcement of the FACE Act," the Justice Department said. "Though the Act was supposed to protect both pro-choice and pro-life facilities, the Biden DOJ provided extensive support to abortion clinics, while ignoring and downplaying vandalism and attacks against pregnancy resource centers."

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche ordered several corrective actions after reviewing the findings of the Weaponization Working Group.

“This Department will not tolerate a two-tiered system of justice,” Blanche said. “No Department should conduct selective prosecution based on beliefs. The weaponization that happened under the Biden Administration will not happen again, as we restore integrity to our prosecutorial system.”

The report concluded that:

The Biden DOJ closely collaborated in with pro-abortion groups like the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood, and Feminist Majority Foundation to track pro-life activists’ First Amendment activity. Pro-abortion groups gained internal information and pushed targets for arrests and prosecution against their rivals, the report alleged.

Pro-choice groups "compiled evidence and dossiers that ultimately gave rise to search warrants and charges" and Biden era prosecutors "asked pro-abortion groups about pro-life individuals’ travel and constitutionally protected advocacy."

The Biden DOJ helped a pro-abortion group secure funding and there was no record of ethics approval permitting such advocacy.

The Biden DOJ pursued significantly harsher sentences for pro-life defendants than pro-abortion defendants: the average pro-life defendant got 26.8 months in prison compared to 12.3 months for pro-abortion defendants.

There’s a lot to unpack in the newly released Ukraine impeachment documents, but the TLDR is already plain to see. There was a massive, coordinated, behind the scenes effort to frame President Trump over a perfectly ordinary phone call. That plot involved the Vindman brothers, Eric Ciaramella, Adam Schiff, the fake news, and the Inspector General, who played a key role in getting the whole thing off the ground.

All of that happened 7 years ago, and it is only coming out now because the statutes of limitations have expired, meaning no one can be held to account. That’s the short and long of it.

Why does Comet R3 (PanSTARRS) have a wispy tail? The newest bright member of the inner Solar System, Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) is already extending an impressive stream of glowing gas. This tail starts from an unseen central nucleus of dirty ice that is likely a few kilometers across. The nucleus is warmed by the Sun and emits a cloud of neutral gas into a coma that glows light green. Nuclear gas ionized by energetic sunlight is pushed away from the Sun by the solar wind into an ion tail that glows light blue. The wispy nature of the ion tail is caused by the constantly changing structure of the solar wind. Pictured from Rhode Island, USA two days ago, Comet R3 (PanSTARRS) shows off a many-degree ion tail. Comet R3 (PanSTARRS) is best seen before dawn from northern skies for another 10 days, after which it will be best visible from southern skies.

Kevin Warsh’s wealth eclipses that of all recent Federal Reserve chairs, newly released financial disclosure forms show.

Warsh is President Donald Trump’snominee to succeed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. His financial filingsshow that Warsh has holdings of approximately $131 million to $209 million, plus hundreds of millions in additional assets held by his wife, Jane Lauder.(don’t they want a rich Fed Chairman, that disclosed his wealth, while all the others hide where they got their money?)

That would make Warsh significantly richer than Powell, who, at the time of his 2018 confirmation, was thought to be the wealthiest Fed chair in history. Powell’s most recent filing, for 2025, shows wealth between $19 million and $75 million.

Warsh also disclosed $10 million in income from his work as an advisor to investor Stanley Druckenmiller,which Warsh has jokingly called his “day job.”

He earned some $3 million in additional income from work at Stanford University, where he is a fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution, and for a handful of Wall Street firms.

Warsh’s filings detail roughly 1,800 individual assets.Many individual items are identified as being subject to “pre-existing confidentiality obligations” that prevent him from specifying the underlying assets.

Warsh in the filings pledges to divest these assets if confirmed.

His filings also indicate he will resign from board seats at UPS

and South Korean retail giant Coupang

,as well as his other jobs.

Lauder sits on the board of Estee Lauder, the cosmetics firm founded by her grandmother.Warsh’s filings detail tens of millions of assets in her name, but many are listed as simply “over $1,000,000.” Forbes estimates her wealth at $1.9 billion.

Not all past Fed chairs have been vastly wealthy.Earlier in his career, Warsh served a term as a Fed governor under then-Chair Ben Bernanke. When Bernanke stepped down from the Fed in 2014, his filings listed assets of, at most, $2.3 million — mostly in retirement funds.

Filing hisfinancial disclosures puts Warsh one step closer to a Senate hearing.A prior plan to hold that hearing this week had to be delayed after a holdup with the paperwork.A hearing would take place next week at the earliest.

Warsh’s path to a full Senate vote is still unclear,however. Sen. Thom Tillis, R.-N.C., has said he will block final approval of Warsh’s candidacy until a federal criminal probe into Powell is resolved. Tillis is also a member of the Senate Banking Committee.

Reid Wiseman had one last decision to make before leaving his spacecraft post-splashdown: leave something behind in accordance with NASA's post-splashdown checklist, or not?

Reid Wiseman, the NASA Artemis 2 commander, was supposed to leave a little plushie moon toy — called Rise — for later retrieval from his Integrity Orion spacecraft.

But after 10 days floating alongside the mascot to the moon and back again, Wiseman had a different thought about that procedure.

"I was supposed to leave Rise in Integrity ... but that was not something I was going to do," Wiseman wrote on X on Saturday (April 11).

Officially, Rise is a zero-gravity indicator created by Lucas Ye, a third grader from California.

It's a mini-moon, with an Earth-colored cap brimmed with stars. Inside the little toy are over 5 million names on an SD card, submitted by folks around the world looking to fly their monikers to the moon.

Rise floated on camera in front of the crew after they reached space April 1, before the eyes of Wiseman, NASA's Victor Glover, NASA's Christina Koch, and the Canadian Space Agency's Jeremy Hansen.

But during the unfolding of the historical lunar flyby mission — the first human moon visit in nearly 54 years — Rise also became a symbol far beyond serving as a demonstration of when Integrity left Earth's gravity.

Crew members often played with Rise during livestreamed conversations with Earth, and the toy also took over NASA's social media streams mid-mission.

But sharp-eyed folks on social media caught something very special in a NASA picture of Ye's family posted Friday (April 10): at some point, Ye's Rise (a prototype of the mascot) was inscribed with the name "Carroll."

Carroll is the name of Wiseman's wife, who died in 2020 of cancer. The crew suggested naming a moon crater after her, during one of the most touching moments of their lunar flyby livestream.

(The suggestion will be sent to the International Astronomical Union, which is the official arbitrator of astronomical monikers).

"A number of years ago, we started this journey in our close-knit astronaut family and we lost a loved one," Artemis 2 mission specialist Jeremy Hansen said to mission control during the April 6 event.

"Her name was Carroll: the spouse of Reid, the mother of Katie and Ellie." Following the announcement, the four crew members shared one of their many group hugs on camera, before separating and visibly wiping tears.

Nutrition Research Arrives Aboard Space Station

No matter how far humanity aims to travel or how ambitious the mission, nutrition will play a key role for the crew members on distant worlds.

Before planning long-term stays on the Moon, Mars, and beyond, humans must learn to grow and care for plants and other sources of nutrition like algae to keep the explorers taking part in these adventures fed.

To solve this problem, NASA and its partners are conducting research aboard the International Space Station to better understand how the space environment affects nutrition-relevant organisms.

Several investigations aboard Northrop Grumman’s 24th commercial resupply mission for NASA support efforts to maintain crew diets as humanity ventures deeper into the cosmos.

Studying plant-microbe interactions

Certain plants have bacteria in their roots that can take nitrogen from the air and convert it into a form of food that plants can use for growth.

NASA’s Veg-06 studies alfalfa (Medicago sativa), a model organism, to determine how the plant interacts with this bacterium in space. This study also examines the effects of reduced lignin, which reinforces cell walls and helps plants to grow upright against gravity.

In microgravity, plants may not need lignin, and reduced levels could allow plant parts to be more easily recycled, facilitating the growth of future plant generations.

Improved algae cultivation

Other forms of nutrition that could support crew health include spirulina (Arthorospira), a type of algae high in protein, B vitamins, and antioxidants. Spirulina also has an added benefit of converting carbon dioxide into oxygen, helping replenish a crew’s air supply.

While spirulina is typically grown in water tanks, a JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) experiment called Space Surface Spirulina is testing a method to grow the algae on a thin-film surface.

This method allows more efficient production of this high-protein food while conserving water and producing fresh oxygen aboard spacecraft.

Seed studies for better spaceflight plants

The ESA (European Space Agency) investigation Seed Vigour exposes seeds from several plant species to spaceflight conditions aboard the space station to determine if seed growth is affected.

The research builds on a 2015 study in which arugula seeds spent six months in orbit. After returning to Earth, the seeds were distributed to schools in the United Kingdom for further study.

The data contributed to a 2020 publication which found that the space-flown arugula seeds took longer to sprout and demonstrated signs of partial aging, but spaceflight did not compromise seed survival or seedling development.

This new study, flying aboard the resupply mission aims to determine whether these findings apply to other plant species and could help researchers find better ways to protect crop seeds during long-duration space missions.

The Tomatosphere 9 investigation by the CSA (Canadian Space Agency) is exposing 1.8 million tomato seeds to microgravity conditions aboard the orbiting laboratory to give students an opportunity to study how the space environment affects plant growth.

After the seeds return to Earth, they will be distributed to schools across the United States and Canada, where students can plant them alongside ground controls in a blind study to compare results.

Together, these studies aboard space station deepen researchers’ understanding of nutrition in space and inform ways to better grow and maintain food sources that will keep crews healthy on future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

I was the geology science team lead on Monday for planning Sols 4852-4853, when our data did not arrive on time for planning.

Thus, we got creative as a team thinking what we could do, not knowing where exactly our rover might be. And for that we first thought about AEGIS, the capability of the rover to find a target for ChemCam LIBS measurements on its own.

We normally use this capability after drives, before we have seen the data here on Earth, to get an extra LIBS measurement. This time, we put two of those observations into the plan, and added many atmospheric and environmental observations, such as dust-devil movies, too. I

t’s an interesting planning session that always makes the team talk more than normal, because there are no routines for those days! I find it both tense and rewarding at the same time.

Anything that isn’t quite as expected adds levels of complexity that require more focus and more thinking, hence making me tense. But it is also really nice when we’ve succeeded in making the best of those days.

My colleagues also seem to have lots of energy and are especially supportive of each other. That said, like everyone else I prefer the routine days where everything goes right and we focus on the science.

All our data arrived perfectly fine in time for planning on Wednesday and we found ourselves in a terrain with many blocks that have polygons on their top surface.

Do check out the images, it’s a wild terrain that reminded me of some boulder-rich terrains we have seen back on the margins of the Gediz Vallis Channel. It is interesting to see the distribution of the blocks, and I am curious how they might change along the traverse up Mount Sharp.

For now, we have an activity that we call “MARDI sidewalk” in the plan. This means the MARDI camera takes images while the rover is driving, on Sol 4855. Those image sequences give great insights into changing terrains, and we are looking forward to the data reaching us!

Over the course of the week, ChemCam did three AEGIS observations and four human-pointed observations on the targets “Las Petas,” “Punta Negra,” “Pampa del Molle,” and “Los Condores.”

We were trying to measure the normal-looking bedrock and all the different features, some of which you can see in the image above. We want to find out what the higher-standing materials are that form those prominent polygons.

APXS is getting four targets in the plan, also looking at the diversity of rocks. These are called “Rio Espiritu Santo,” “La Escalera,” “Los Condores,” and “Tropico de Capricornio.”

It’s all focused on understanding what forms the polygons, because any differences in chemistry could tell us a lot about what happened and how the polygons came to be.

By extension, this will then allow the team to deduce the environmental conditions at the time the polygons formed.

As you may guess, imaging is very important in a landscape as varied as this! Mastcam is looking in many directions in the near-field and further up the road — our projected drive path.

In addition, ChemCam is taking long-distance images with its Remote Micro Imager (RMI) to get a closer look at the walls around us.

The butte called “Mishe Mokwa” is still one of the RMI and Mastcam favorites because it gives us many insights into its structure as we are driving past and also somewhat around it.

Atmospheric and environmental observations occur all across the plans and include atmospheric opacity measurements, dust-devil searches and, in Friday’s plan, also an APXS atmospheric measurement.

The DAN instrument is monitoring water in the subsurface across all plans. So, it’s three full plans, despite the little extra wait on the data!

And while I am writing this, four astronauts in the Orion capsule are on the way around the Moon. I am very excited! When Apollo 8 was the very first mission to ever fly around the Moon in December 1968, I wasn’t born yet.

In fact, I arrived a few months after Apollo 11 had landed on the Moon for the first time. Now being able to witness these lunar missions myself, to hear the voices between the Integrity spacecraft and the control room in Houston, and to see the pictures as they arrive … magnificent!

"We saw the alien in the room with us and realized that would be a really cool thing to do, have it waving at everybody out there who was working on the mission."

Along with Glover and Koch, commander Reid Wiseman and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen also safely returned, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean just after 5:07 p.m. local time.

The spacecraft reentered Earth's atmosphere from an altitude of about 400,000 feet around 4:53 p.m., followed by an expected six-minute communications blackout caused by a buildup of plasma around the Orion capsule.

During that period, the capsule reached speeds of approximately 24,661 mph — more than 30 times the speed of sound — while enduring peak heating temperatures of around 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit on its exterior.

While the mission did not land on the moon, it marked a critical test flight as part of NASA's broader goal of returning humans to the lunar surface within the next two years.

Astronomers have discovered a rare "Einstein Cross" gravitational lens, revealing a young galaxy with shockingly mature stars.

The galaxy in question is J1453g, an elliptical galaxy that is the first gravitational lens at a large cosmic distance for which astronomers have been able to precisely "weigh."

J1453g lenses the light from a more distant quasar, a region of space dominated by a ravenously feeding supermassive black hole, magnifying it and causing it to appear multiple times in the same image in the shape of a cross.

The galaxy is seen as it was around 8 billion years ago, when the universe was less than 6 billion years old.

However, though it is a "primordial galaxy" in its early stages of development, J1453g is surprisingly similar to the Milky Way, our "mature" home galaxy.

What this shows us is that the growth and evolution of galaxies could be much more complex than previously theorized.

"The discovery of this exceptional object has allowed us to accurately study the nature of the stars at the center of an elliptical galaxy in a remote era of the universe, when the galaxy was still young," team leader Quirino D'Amato, a researcher at the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), said in a statement.

"The fact that their composition is very similar to what we see today in the Milky Way, in a completely different environment and era, is surprising.

"This tells us that we are still far from fully understanding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution, and represents an important point for the development of future models."
