Rocket Lab Corporation (Nasdaq: RKLB) (“Rocket Lab” or “the Company”), a global leader in launch services and space systems, today announced it has completed the acquisition of Mynaric AG (“Mynaric”), a leading provider of laser optical communications terminals for air, space, and mobile applications.

COLORADO SPRINGS – Two years after the National Reconnaissance Office announced an ambitious plan to put a proliferated architecture on orbit, the system is now operational and even surpassing expectations, Bill Adkins, principal deputy director of the NRO, said Tuesday at the annual Space Symposium.

“We are delivering unprecedented levels of persistence, timeliness, and resilience—providing a clear information advantage to our stakeholders,” Adkins said to an audience of government, industry, military, and academic leaders attending the event hosted by the Space Foundation.

The proliferated architecture is a major part of what the NRO describes as the most significant transformation in its history, creating the largest and most effective government constellation the United States has ever had.

This vision was described aspirationally at Space Symposium 2024 by Adkins’ predecessor, Dr. Troy Meink, who predicted a proliferated constellation would strengthen resilience, enhance collection persistence, and accelerate the processing of information and delivery to end users.

Over the past few years, the NRO has launched more than 200 satellites, many of which are part of this proliferated architecture.

“Today, I can report that those goals are no longer aspirational,” Adkins said. “The NRO has been delivering—and often exceeding—those commitments.”

Adkins noted that in 2025 alone, the NRO’s proliferated architecture captured more than 400,000 collections – an incredibly large data set that is helping the organization answer questions and optimize the use of machine learning algorithms.

Advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, enable satellites to conduct adaptive tasking, autonomous operation, enhanced coordination within the constellation, and more efficient utilization.

The constellation is shortening revisit times, increasing observational persistence, and improving resilience and security. Combatant Commands and other users are being trained on the constellation’s tasking and the analytic tools that strengthen its performance.

“Simply put, we are making it harder for adversaries to hide—and harder for them to disrupt our capabilities,” Adkins said.

In addition to its overhead capabilities, Adkins said the NRO is also investing in its ground capabilities to optimize tasking, improve processing speed and capacity, accelerate automation, and deliver advanced visualization tools.

Partnerships with industry and across the whole of government are also driving leading-edge innovation.

The NRO is now working with more than 250 prime vendors and 5,000 sub-contractors across multiple phenomenologies, and flexible acquisitions approaches are opening contracting opportunities for startups and non-traditional suppliers.

The NRO’s proliferated architecture, Adkins noted, is benefitting from the ability of commercial startups to improve – often dramatically – cost, speed, and agility.

For example, commercial partners can offer state-of-the-art capabilities, including radiation-tolerant microelectronics, at reduced cost and development times.

All of this, Adkins noted, is in pursuit of the NRO’s national security mission.

“We’re also integrating commercial and classified data to provide our users—whether warfighters, analysts, policymakers, or first responders—with the best possible information for decision-making.”

Actionable data from space could be delivered in seconds in the future, thanks to progress towards the European Space Agency’s (ESA) faster and more secure laser communications network, HydRON.

At the 41st Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Canadian satellite communications company Kepler was awarded a contract to lead the next phase in the project’s evolution.

ESA’s High‑thRoughput Optical Network (HydRON) aims to enable real‑time data transfer between satellites and ground systems, across multiple orbits. Essentially, it seeks to extend fibre‑based internet infrastructure into space.

Rather than relying on traditional radio links and limited ground station contacts, HydRON uses laser technology to move large volumes of data quickly and efficiently.

The programme is structured in multiple parts. The first establishes a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit that relay data using optical links.

The second extends this capability to higher orbits, connecting different orbital layers and ground infrastructure. The third focuses on bringing industry into the network, validating how different technologies and services can operate together in orbit.

Under an €18.6 million contract awarded on 14 April, Kepler will start the activities under this third part. Using their satellites, the company will host payloads from several European partners.

Vyoma GmbH will contribute a space situational awareness payload, designed to monitor objects in orbit and help track satellites and debris. TESAT, MBRYONICS Ltd and Astrolight UAB will each provide optical communication hardware.

The contract was signed between Laurent Jaffart, ESA Director of Resilience, Navigation and Connectivity, and Mina Mitry, CEO and Co-Founder of Kepler in the presence of ESA’s Director General Josef Aschbacher and Lisa Campbell, President of the Canadian Space Agency, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and Kepler’s industrial partners Astrolight, TESAT, Vyoma and MBRYONICS.

It builds on Kepler’s earlier role in HydRON’s first element and supports ESA’s wider objective of developing a resilient, European‑led communications infrastructure in space.

Optical communications complement traditional radio frequencies, which are becoming increasingly congested. By contrast, laser links allow more data volumes to be transmitted, with reduced interference and higher security.

HydRON will demonstrate data rates in the terabit‑per‑second range and show how space‑based optical networks can integrate seamlessly with ground fibre systems.

Beyond faster data delivery, the programme is also about interoperability, namely ensuring that technology from different European companies can work together within a single network.

This is a key step in keeping Europe competitive in optical communications and in preparing future flexible space systems.

“HydRON will serve as the world’s first multi-orbital optical communications network with a terabit per second capacity, offering resilient and efficient data transfer to address the challenges of bringing connectivity to multiple users securely, quickly and reliably,” said Laurent Jaffart, Director of Resilience, Navigation and Connectivity.

U.S. Space Command plans to hold exercises this year as it readies a maneuver warfare strategy for space.

“When we look at scenarios involving a protracted conflict against a peer opponent, we need a new strategy that isn’t predictable or static,” Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander of U.S. Space Command, told an audience here.

“U.S. Space Command must collaborate across the enterprise toward a maneuver warfare strategy.”

“A satellite which is locked in a predictable orbit is fighting from a fixed position, and it’s a target,” Whiting added.

“It’s a known position on a map waiting to be bypassed or neutralized. A force that can maneuver, however, and not be limited by the fuel that it was launched with and reposition as operationally needed is the one that holds the initiative.”

For the strategy, U.S. Space Command is using CAVE, its Capability Assessment and Validation Environment.

“These analysts use modeling and simulation tools to visualize this concept, and then they’re going to hand over their findings to our warfighting branch for future testing and analysis,” Whiting said.

During a press conference here later in the day, Whiting said the service is “making progress” on the modeling and simulation phase.

“We soon will turn that over to our wargaming branch, who can run tabletop exercises and then larger scale exercises that will begin to include some live-fly elements of that using actual on-orbit assets,” Whiting said, noting that he expects that next phase to begin later this year.

Kiev’s Western backers want to ramp up production of long-range drones to prop up Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry has said, warning the move is bound to drag the European nations conserned into a direct conflict with Moscow.

The ministry said a network of facilities producing drones and their components is operating in a number of European countries, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Finland and Poland.

Additional sites were identified outside the continent, including in Türkiye and Israel. At least four facilities are located in Italy alone.

According to the ministry, Kiev’s Western backers are seeking to ramp up production of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, a move Moscow described as a “deliberate step leading to a sharp escalation of the military-political situation throughout Europe.”

It added that such efforts risk turning host countries into “Ukraine’s strategic rear area.”

“The implementation of terrorist attack scenarios against Russia… using supposedly ‘Ukrainian’ UAVs manufactured in Europe is leading to unpredictable consequences,” the ministry said, referring to repeated statements by Ukrainian officials about expanding long-range strikes.

The ministry named multiple drone manufacturing facilities located in the UK, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Poland.

At least four sites producing drone components were identified in Italy, with several plants involved in such activities located in Türkiye, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Israel.

Ukraine has been regularly launching one-way drones deep into Russian territory, targeting assorted civilian infrastructure, industrial sites, and residential buildings. The attacks have seemingly intensified in recent weeks, with Kiev sending in hundreds of fixed-wing UAVs daily.

Russian officials have described the strikes as indiscriminate “terrorist” attacks aimed at compensating for frontline setbacks the Ukrainian military has been suffering.

Moscow has retaliated with a long-range strike campaign of its own against dual-use infrastructure and military installations, maintaining it never targets purely civilian sites.

Iran used a Chinese spy satellite it secretly bought in 2024 to target US bases in the current war, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.

The TEE-01B satellite, built and launched by Chinese company Earth Eye Co,was acquired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace Force in late 2024 after it was launched into space from China, the report said, citing leaked Iranian military documents.

The Iranian military commanders directed the satellite to monitor major US military sites, the newspaper said,citing time-stamped coordinate lists, satellite imagery and orbital analysis. The images were taken in March before and after drone and missile strikes on those locations, FT said.

As part of the deal,the IRGC received access to commercial ground stations operated by Emposat, a Beijing-based provider of satellite control and data services providerwith a network extending across Asia, Latin America and other regions, according to the report.

The satellitecaptured images of Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 13, 14 and 15, FT said.

On March 14, US President Donald Trump confirmed US planes at the base had been hit.

According to the report,the satellite also monitored Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan and locations close to the US Fifth Fleet naval base in Manama, Bahrain, and Erbil airport, Iraq, around the time of IRGC-claimed attacks on facilities in those areas.

Reuters could not independently verify the report. The White House, CIA, Pentagon, China’s foreign affairs ministry and defense ministry, Earth Eye Co and Emposat did not immediately respond to requests by Reuters for comment.

Previous reports have said Iran received Russian intelligence satellite imagery of both US and Israeli targets following the start of the US-Israeli bombing campaign in Iran on February 28.

The campaign, which came to a halt last Wednesday after a two-week ceasefire was announced, sought to destabilize Iran’s regime and destroy its ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

Iran responded with missile and drone strikes across the region and by effectively blockading the Strait of Hormuz.Last week, Russia and China vetoed a United Nations Security Council aimed at reopening the vital waterway.

The Trump administration is now actively gaming the inflation data.

For decades, the U.S. has understated the true state of inflation by applying various accounting gimmicks to the inflation data: the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Producers Price Index (PPI).

The primary reasons for this are because A) it allows policymakers to hide the decline in living standards in the U.S. and B) the U.S. can continue to underpay Social Security COLA benefits based on lower inflation data.

Some of the more egregious gimmicks the U.S. applies to the inflation data are:

Substitution Effects The BLS assumes consumers substitute cheaper goods when prices rise — e.g., if beef prices spike, they switch to chicken.

Hedonics (Hedonic Quality Adjustments) If a new TV costs the same but has better resolution, BLS records that as a price decrease because you’re getting more quality per dollar. This depresses the measured price of electronics, appliances, and cars substantially.

Owners’ Equivalent Rent (OER) Rather than measuring actual home prices, the BLS asks homeowners what they think they could rent their house for.

Weighting of the Basket The basket weights are updated periodically but still don’t fully reflect how ordinary Americans spend money. Ukraine is introducing criminal penalties for antisemitism, with sentences of up to eight years in prison for offenders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law introducing criminal liability for antisemitic acts, amending Article 161 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code to explicitly include antisemitism as a punishable offense.

Penalties under the new law for inciting hatred, humiliation of honor and dignity, or incitement of manifestations of antisemitism range from heavy fines to restrictions on liberty to prison sentences of up to eight years in the most severe cases, such as those involving violence or organized groups. Other aggravating circumstances include antisemitic actions by public officials and antisemitic actions involving threats or deception. The legislation was signed on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Ukraine strikes Russian radar systems, drone depots, logistics hubs

Units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out strikes on a number of Russian military targets on April 14 and during the night of April 15, including radar systems, logistics facilities, and concentrations of personnel in Russia and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

In particular, Ukrainian forces hit a 96L6 radar station belonging to the S-400 air defense system near Krasnohirske in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as a Nebo-SVU radar station in Hvardiiske, Crimea.

In the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian forces also struck an ammunition depot near the settlement of Terpinnia.

In the area of Hirne in the Donetsk region, a UAV depot was hit. Near Mariupol, fuel storage tanks were struck, while logistics warehouses of Russian forces were targeted on the outskirts of Rybynske and Topolyne.

"Our warriors struck enemy personnel concentrations in the areas of Ivanovsky and Volfinsky in Russia's Kursk region, as well as Krasnohirske in the Zaporizhzhia region, Berezove in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Rodynske in the Donetsk region, and Oleshky in the Kherson region," the General Staff said.

Other key military facilities of the Russian forces were also targeted. Enemy losses and the extent of damage are being verified.

Trump Sides With Deep State, Signals Intent To Preserve Spy Tool That Snarled His First Term

President Donald Trump signaled a willingness Wednesday to extend a hotly debated surveillance tool while also commenting that he would willingly surrender his rights and privileges to do so.

The president posted on Truth Social that he was working with Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, along with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford, on extending Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). The post comes as Republicans’ infighting grows over the provision between Johnson and several members of the Rules committee.

“I am asking Republicans to UNIFY, and vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor. We need to stick together when this Bill comes before the House Rules Committee today to keep it CLEAN,” Trump wrote.

Trump also pointed to former FBI Director James Comey, saying that he used FISA Title I as part of his investigation into Russian Collusion in the president’s 2016 campaign. He then added that he would be willing to surrender part of his own rights for the section.

“I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country! Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield,” Trump wrote.

The President had previously called for Congress to “KILL FISA” in 2024 stating that it was “ILLEGALLY USED” against his campaign to spy on them.
