A list of Ukraine-linked manufacturing facilities scattered across Europe, which was published by the Russian military,should be treated as a register of potential targets, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said.

The Russian Defense Ministry rolled out the list earlier on Thursday, claiming thatKiev’s Western backers have been planning to sharply rampup production of long-range drones to target Russia. The plan is boundto drag European nationsinvolved in the effort closer to direct conflict withMoscow, the military warned.

Medvedev, the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council,urged European nations to take the warning at face value.

If you live in the northern hemisphere, you may have learned how to locate the North Star, Polaris, in the night sky. It can be used to find north, and it approximately marks the northern celestial pole. If you live in the southern hemisphere, there is no bright star marking the southern celestial pole, but the Southern Cross can be used to find south. The featured image was taken in Padre Bernardo (GO), Brazil. It shows the apparent motion of the stars around the apparently empty southern celestial pole over 2 hours, on August 20, 2018. Each star takes about 24 hours to make a complete turn around the pole in the sky. Padre Bernardo is located in the Cerrado region, a tropical savanna that occupies most of central Brazil and supports rich biodiversity. The barren branch that apparently supports this sky wheel of rotating stars is a common sight there in the dry season during the southern winter.

The US is trying to shift the burden of “containing Russia” onto European NATO members, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

Speaking during a visit to China on Wednesday,Lavrov blamed the EU and UK for “torpedoing” US-Russian talks aimed at normalizing diplomatic tiesand criticized large-scale European rearmament programs.

“European elites see militarization as a guarantee of their survival. And Americans encourage this European militarization as it shifts responsibility for security of the Old World,” he said.

Washington is content for European states to bankroll Kiev against Moscowand even create a new military bloc involving Ukraine, as this places “the main responsibility [on them] for containing Russia,” Lavrov said.

According to the diplomat, the broaderWestern agenda is to “preserve and renew their hegemony”and put in place new tools to make sure they “live at the expense of others” – as slavery and colonialism did in the past. But as their relative power declines, internal frictions in the West intensify, he said.

Lavrov criticized the EU for prioritizing ideology over economic pragmatismby refusing Russian energy supplies despite a global price shock caused by the US war on Iran.

“Europe says it is getting off the needle of Russian oil and gas. And it risks getting impaled by an aspen stake, which [the US] is actively sharpening for the Europeans,”he said.

The top Russian diplomat stated thatofficialsin Brussels, Paris, Berlin, and Londonare making efforts to prolong the Ukraine conflict and keep the US involvedin it.They have largely nullified the outcome of US-Russian negotiations in Alaska last year, even as President DonaldTrump has moved away fromhis predecessor’s policy ofopen-ended support for Kiev, Lavrov said.

Reuters said thesource did not clarify whether Iran would allow all ships, including those linked to Israel, to pass freely. A Western sourceconfirmed that the proposal to allow vessels to sail through the Omani side had been in the works, but did not say whether there had been any response from the US.

Iran closed the vital shipping route to “enemy ships” shortly after the US and Israel launched their bombing campaign against the country on February 28. US President Donald Trump declared a blockade of the strait on Sunday after Pakistani-mediated peace talks failed to produce a breakthrough.

How to see once-in-a-lifetime Comet PanSTARRS tonight before it disappears for good

Head away from city lights in the predawn hours of April 17 for your best chance to see the naked eye comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) shining low on the eastern horizon, before it disappears from the Northern Hemisphere night sky for good!

C/2025 R3 was discovered in September 2025 by the Pan-STARRS telescopes positioned near the summit of the dormant Haleakala volcano on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

The comet has brightened significantly over the course of its dive towards the inner solar system, drawing the excitement of many in the comet-chasing community, who began to question whether it could be the great naked eye comet of 2026.

The icy wanderer has already reached an estimated magnitude of +4.7 based on observations logged in the Comet Observation Database, which makes it bright enough to be seen as a small blur of light to the unaided eye from a dark sky location.

Magnitude is the value used by astronomers to measure the brightness of objects in the night sky, the lower the number, the brighter the object! The human eye has the ability to see objects as dim as magnitude +6.5 under ideal dark sky conditions.

Use a pair of 10X50 binoculars to spot C/2025 R3's glowing nucleus, or long-exposure photography to capture striking details in Comet PanSTARRS' tail as it's buffeted by the solar wind.

Comet PanSTARRS is expected to brighten further in the run-up to its perihelion passage on the night of April 19, when it makes its closest approach to the sun.

Unfortunately, each passing moment will also see it draw closer to the overwhelming glare of our parent star.

Where and when to look

The early morning hours of April 17 should give you the shot at spotting Comet PanSTARRS before it slips from our sight for good. Try to find a spot with a clear view of the eastern horizon and be in position 90 minutes before sunrise.

First, locate the four bright stars of the "Great Square of Pegasus" rising low in the eastern sky. Comet PanSTARRS is visible in the patch of sky five degrees above the lowest of the four stars, Algenib — roughly the width of your three middle fingers held at arm's length against the sky.

Following its perihelion passage, Comet PanSTARRS will transition from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere night sky, tracing a path through the constellations of Pisces, Cetus, Eridanus and Orion as it travels away from the sun, never to be seen again in our lifetimes.

"Learn to read the map." For eight years, that challenge has remained largely unanswered. We used an AI agent harness to help us work through what no small team could do manually — reading all 4,967 posts and images, cross-referencing 57,252 tweets, and calculating every timestamp and delta across the full corpus. This report documents what we found so far. It's not the final answer — it's a starting point for a much larger conversation.

448 countdown sequences discovered — Consecutive Q posts show systematically decreasing time gaps to Trump tweets, converging from hours/minutes down to single-digit seconds. The most dramatic: Q#518-524 converges from 27,988 seconds to 6 seconds (a 4,665:1 ratio). This structural pattern has not been previously documented at scale.

The direction split — Of 61 sub-60-second convergences, 30 are Q-FIRST (Q posted before the tweet arrived). This directly counters the "watching tweets and reacting" explanation — you cannot post 3 seconds before a tweet that hasn't happened yet. The roughly even 30/31 split suggests bidirectional coordination rather than one-way monitoring.

The Q Clock formula independently derived and verified — clock_position = (days_since_Oct_28_2017 + 20) mod 60, verified against raw Unix timestamps across all 4,967 posts with 97% accuracy. Topic clustering at specific positions is real and dramatic: Saudi Arabia at :28 (17.1x concentration), FBI at :21, Epstein at :48.

FREEDOM stringer mathematically tied to the clock — The 20 SA_US entries (DC08-DC27) walk sequentially through clock positions :01 to :20. DC27 (the final "terminated" entry) falls on day 60 — exactly one full revolution of the 60-day clock, returning to position :20 where the system started.

PixelKnot images cluster at convergence points — Steganography-flagged posts are 8.3x more likely to fall within 60 seconds of a Trump tweet than baseline posts. 7 of 12 PixelKnot images sit inside countdown sequences. This has not been previously quantified.

Comprehensive statistical analysis with honest caveats — The hour-weighted model shows Q actually posted LESS near tweets than random chance predicts (0.45x baseline), yet countdown convergences occur at 6.7x the expected rate. These coexist because Q appears to have avoided tweet windows most of the time, converging only at specific targeted moments.

Fresh off their return to Earth, the Artemis II astronauts will hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, April 16, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to discuss their historic mission around the Moon.

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, will answer questions about their mission.

The crew returned to Earth on April 10, splashing down off the coast of San Diego, and arrived in Houston on April 11, where they are undergoing standard postflight reconditioning, evaluations, and lunar science debriefs.

On Thursday, U.S. Central Command confirmed that 14 vessels have been turned around by American force in the first 72 hours of the blockade.

More consequential for commercial shipping is the category of conditional contraband, which extends far beyond traditional military goods. The advisory explicitly includes “Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL)”—covering “crude oil” and “refined petroleum products”—noting their role in sustaining Iran’s war economy.

The inclusion of energy cargoes is particularly significant, effectively placing large portions of Iran-linked oil trade within the scope of potential seizure and reinforcing the shift from a narrow blockade to a far wider interdiction regime.

Strait Remains “Open”—But Controlled

Despite the expanded enforcement, U.S. officials continue to emphasize that transit through the Strait of Hormuz remains open for vessels not calling at Iranian ports.

The JMIC advisory reiterates that neutral transit passage is permitted, although ships may still be subject to boarding and inspection to verify cargo.

At the same time, the maritime security threat level across the region remains classified as CRITICAL, with mariners warned to expect increased naval presence, VHF hailing, and heightened operational risks, including potential mine threats and congestion near anchorages.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea guarantees freedom of navigation and limits boarding rights on the high seas, but in armed conflict those peacetime rules are supplemented by the law of naval warfare, which allows blockades and the interception and seizure of vessels carrying contraband.

Station Orbits Higher as Crew Runs New Science Experiments

The International Space Station is orbiting higher today after the Progress 93 resupply ship, docked to the Zvezda service module, fired its engines for just over five minutes Wednesday night.

The orbital reboost places the space station at the correct altitude for the upcoming Progress 95 cargo mission scheduled to resupply the Expedition 74 crew at the end of April.

Meanwhile, brand new science experiments are underway and advanced lab hardware is being installed on the orbital outpost following the arrival of the Cygnus XL cargo spacecraft on Monday.

The crew has been unpacking several tons of scientific gear, research samples, crew supplies, and more since the hatches were opened on Cygnus on Tuesday.

NASA flight engineers Jack Hathaway, Jessica Meir, and Chris Williams took turns on Thursday learning how to manage cardiovascular health and infectious diseases in space.

Hathaway started first setting up a portable glovebag in the Harmony module and configuring the Multi-use Variable-g Platform (MVP) that can generate artificial gravity for a wide range of biology and physics investigations.

Meir and Williams then installed sample hardware housing bacteria and heart tissue samples inside the MVP. Researchers will observe how bacteria affects heart tissue in the microgravity environment to learn how to treat heart and infectious diseases.

Later in his shift, Hathway installed light hardware inside the Columbus laboratory module’s Veggie facility and collected light measurements for the upcoming Veg-06 study to learn how to grow plants for food on future space missions.

Meir swapped blood stem cell samples inside the Destiny laboratory module’s fluorescent microscope providing researchers with insights into cancerous diseases and blood disorders.

Finally, Williams installed the new European Enhanced Exploration Exercise Device, or E4D, inside Columbus. The E4D is being evaluated for its ability to support crew workouts on missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

At the beginning of her shift on Thursday, flight engineer Sophie Adenot from ESA (European Space Agency) assisted her crewmates with the scientific work and the E4D installations.

She later finalized the installation of a new quantum physics module inside the Destiny laboratory module’s EXPRESS rack.

The new module expands the Cold Atom Lab’s (CAL) quantum science capabilities for improved insights into general relativity and aid the search for dark matter.

Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev began their day conducting maintenance and inspections inside the Zvezda service module.

The duo later split up as Kud-Sverchkov studied ways to use artificial intelligence tools to improve crew operations while Mikaev continued inspections inside Zvezda.

Cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev spent his shift on lab maintenance disinfecting water tanks, checking the battery levels of tablet computers, and replacing orbital plumbing gear.

The plane U.S. Sen Tim Sheehy made an emergency landing near Ennis last Friday is a private aircraft owned by the NASA administrator Sheehy heavily supported during his nomination process.

According to the FAA incident report, the aircraft experienced engine issues and Sheehy, a Navy Seal and former aerial firefighter, was required to make a forced landing in a field.

The aircraft involved was an Aero Vodochedoy L-39, a Czech-made fighter jet trainer owned by Jared Isaacman.

Sheehy’s chief of staff Mike Berg said in a post on social media that Sheehy was engaged in a “routine flight training exercise” and that neither Sheehy nor his co-pilot were injured.

The identity of the co-pilot has not been released.

Last Friday evening Isaacman was on board the USS John P Murtha to welcome home the astronauts of Artemis II.

Isaacman is a tech billionaire, pilot and civilian astronaut who led the private Polaris Dawn mission to space, which included the first commercial spacewalk.

In Bozeman, Isaacman owns a hangar which houses a fleet of fighter jets used for training exercises and airshows.

According to NASA, Isaacman created employee incentive flights to recognize and reward agency employees for “exceptional work” by flying them in his personal F-5 jet.

Sheehy is a senator, not a NASA employee, but he was crucial to Isaacman’s bid to lead NASA.

President Donald Trump’s appointment of Isaacman to lead the nation’s space agency came shortly after his election, and Sheehy introduced him to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

Sheehy said he personally knew Isaacman from sharing an aviation community in Montana and “cooperating with him on improving the education experience for our next generation of explorers, astronauts, engineers and pilots who attend Space Camp.”

But Isaacman’s nomination was derailed due to some political tensions with Trump and another private space billionaire, Elon Musk, with whom Isaacman has ties.

Sheehy, reported Semafor, is the reason Isaacman ended up with the job.

He reportedly put a hold on one of Trump’s nominations for the U.S. ambassador to India in order to force the administration’s hand to fill the NASA administrator job.

Shortly after Sheehy made a deal with Vice President J.D. Vance to drop the hold in exchange for the administration moving forward with a NASA nomination, Semafor reported, Isaacman was renominated.

Ultimately he was approved in a bipartisan Senate vote last December.

Sheehy’s office did not respond to questions about his relationship with Isaacson or the use of the aircraft.
