Moscow remains open to reviving the proposal if it helps ease Middle East tensions, Dmitry Peskov says

Russia’s proposal to host Iran’s enriched uranium remains on the table despite having been previously rejected by the US, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

The issue of Tehran’s nuclear program has long been a sticking point in talks with Washington. US President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran completely dismantle its nuclear infrastructure and hand over its enriched uranium stockpile, a proposal Tehran has rejected.

Iranian officials say they are not seeking a nuclear bomb but insist that uranium enrichment is their sovereign right and intended for civilian use. Tehran has previously indicated it could send some of its enriched uranium to a third country such as Russia and reportedly floated that idea in negotiations before the US and Israel launched their military campaign on February 28.

Speaking to India Today on Wednesday, Peskov said Russia’s offer had been made “quite a time ago” and that Tehran had been “okay with it” at the time. He called the plan “a very good solution,” but said “unfortunately, the American side rejected this proposal,” adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is ready to return to this initiative.”

Asked whether Russia would allow full oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Peskov replied: “We are in full cooperation.” He said Iran was “one of the most heavily inspected” countries by the UN watchdog, which “has never acknowledged any attempt by Iran to make nuclear weapons.”

Peskov’s remarks come amid reports of ongoing indirect contacts over a possible second round of US-Iran negotiations after last week’s talks in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough. Tehran has accused Washington of a “breach of trust” and of trying to dictate terms.

The US reportedly proposed a 20-year moratorium on Iranian enrichment and the removal of Tehran’s existing stockpile. Trump has since said a 20-year ban would still not be long enough, while Iranian negotiators reportedly countered with a five-year moratorium and rejected US calls to confiscate Iran’s roughly 440 kg stockpile of enriched uranium.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday that Tehran has “an inalienable right” to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

New US Congress Bill Proposal Requires All Operating System Providers To Verify Ages

Enshrining age verification laws nationwide presents a series of perilous privacy concerns.

We've covered here before on individual US states setting up their own age verification laws, and now a new US Congress bill has been proposed for it. If passed, this would then potentially set it all up to be nation-wide across the entirety of the US.

The bill was introduced on April 13th and has been referred to the US House Committee on Energy and Commerce. It's being sponsored by the Democratic party's Josh Gottheimer, with it being co-sponsored by Republican Elise M. Stefanik so it has bipartisan support.

The current concerning thing - is that the actual bill text doesn't seem to have been provided yet. All we know is the main introduction title of: "To require operating system providers to verify the age of any user of an operating system, and for other purposes".

It could go either way with it simply asking for people to enter their date of birth or more concerning is actual proper verification using some form of ID. The other bit about it being for "other purposes" also leaves me with a rather uneasy feeling. These types of bills we've seen elsewhere are always a first step towards something worse. They all mean less privacy, less freedom, more tracking and a potential for more security problems when things inevitably get leaked somewhere.

This appears to be part of the "Parents Decide Act" announced earlier in April by Gottheimer, as just one step in the process. So expect a lot more to come. Some bullet point plans from it:

Require operating system developers like Apple and Google to verify users’ ages when setting up a new device, rather than relying on self-reported ages.

Allow parents to set age-appropriate content controls from the start, including limiting access to social media, apps, and AI platforms.

Ensure that age and parental settings securely flow to apps and AI platforms, so content is tailored appropriately for children.

Prevent children from accessing harmful or explicit content — including inappropriate AI chatbot interactions — by creating a consistent, trusted standard across platforms.

Currently, the bill is only in the introductory stage so it hasn't yet passed and become law, so if this is important to you in the US you may want to speak to your representatives.

Iran War Pushes U.S. to Brink of Net Oil Exporter Status Not Seen Since WWII

HOUSTON, April 15 (Reuters) – The U.S. nearly turned into a net crude exporter last week for the first time since World War Two as shipments surged close to a record high to meet demand from Asian and European buyers scrambling to replace Middle East supplies cut by the Iran war.

The U.S. and Israel’s war with Iran triggered the largest ever disruption to the global energy market as Iranian threats to shipping stopped around a fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies from transiting the Strait of Hormuz waterway.

Refiners in Asia and Europe that depend on those supplies have bought alternative cargoes from wherever they can, sharply boosting demand for oil from the U.S., the world’s largest producer.

However, analysts and traders say the U.S. is rapidly approaching its export capacity.

Net imports of crude oil, or the difference between imports and exports, narrowed to 66,000 barrels per day last week, the lowest on record in weekly data that goes back to 2001, according to U.S. government data released on Wednesday, while exports climbed to 5.2 million bpd, the highest in seven months.

On an annual basis, the U.S. was last a net exporter of crude in 1943, data showed.

Rising U.S. crude exports are evidence that Atlantic Basin and Asian buyers are reaching further out for available supply, with regional oil price differences making up for the costs of shipping, said Rystad vice president of oil markets, Janiv Shah.

Countries such as Greece have snapped up U.S. crude for the first time ever in recent months.

About 2.4 million bpd, or some 47% of U.S. exports last week sailed toward Europe, according to ship tracking service Kpler. Around 1.49 million bpd, or about 37%, headed to Asia, up from 30% a year ago.

Top buyers included the Netherlands, Japan, France, Germany and South Korea.

A vessel carrying 500,000 barrels of crude signaled it was en route to Turkey, which would mark the first U.S. export to the country in at least a year, Kpler data showed.

SOARING BENCHMARK BRENT MAKES US OIL ATTRACTIVE

Imports to the U.S., meanwhile, dropped by more than 1 million bpd to 5.3 million bpd last week. The U.S. still imports a lot of its crude as its refineries are designed to take heavier, more sour grades than the light sweet crude it produces.

The disruption to Middle East supplies blew out the premium for Brent crude futures over U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures to as much as $20.69 a barrel last month, reducing U.S. buyers’ appetite for imports, while making U.S. crude attractive to refiners in Europe and Asia.

The price of physical crude oil cargoes for prompt delivery to Europe hit a record high near $150 a barrel on Monday, and those for Africa hit new peaks, according to LSEG data and traders.

EXPORTS NEARING CAPACITY

U.S. exports are likely to touch about 5.2 million bpd for April, Matt Smith, an analyst at Kpler said, adding that exports were pushing up against capacity limits on a monthly basis.

The U.S. can export as much as 6 million bpd, traders and analysts said, citing limited pipeline capacity and vessel availability. Its exports hit a record high of 5.6 million bpd in 2023, government data shows.

“The market is already testing the export ceiling with 5.2 million bpd exported last week. Every incremental barrel from here costs more in freight and logistics than the last one,” according to Bekzod Zukhritdinov, a Dubai-based oil trader.

A release of medium sour crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve could push more light, low sulfur U.S. crude grades out for export, Rystad’s Shah said. But a shortage of tankers, and higher freight rates could hurt that export demand, he added.

About 80 empty supertankers were heading to the Gulf of Mexico as of Wednesday, likely to pick up crude over April and May, said Rohit Rathod, a senior analyst at Vortexa.

Scientists Can’t Seem To Stop Going Missing Under Mysterious Circumstances

Ten U.S. researchers and scientists have reportedly died or disappeared over the past 33 months amid increasing speculation about the cause of some of the disappearances.

Steven Garcia, a 48-year-old government contractor who allegedly had top-level clearance at a key nuclear facility disappeared in August 2025 after reportedly leaving behind his phone, wallet and keys, taking a gun and leaving his home in New Mexico on foot, NewsNation reported Thursday. Moreover, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland similarly went missing on Feb. 27 after leaving his home in Albuquerque on foot, the outlet reported.

Eight other well-known scientists and researchers in the U.S. have reportedly died or gone missing over the past few years, raising questions about whether some of these cases might involve suspicious circumstances. However, U.S. officials have not identified any definitive connection between the cases, according to an April 9 Newsweek report.

Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), who Garcia served as a contractor for, produces 80% of the non-nuclear material part of the U.S.’ nuclear weapons, The Daily Mail reported, citing an anonymous source.

“Over the past year, 10 different US specialists, ranging from scientists working on aerospace, nuclear and UAP research have all gone missing. Most of the cases have been labelled as old person wandering off, or disappearing when hiking,” professor and independent journalist Adam Cochran wrote in a Tuesday X post responding to the Daily Mail’s story. “But it’s way too many to be a coincidence especially when many of them worked together, and all happened to work on top US secrets…”

During a Wednesday press briefing, Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt about whether the U.S. government is planning to investigate the spate of reported disappearances and deaths.

“There are now 10 American scientists who have either gone missing or died since mid-2024,” the reporter said. “They all reportedly had access to classified nuclear or aerospace material. Is anybody investigating this to see if these things are connected?”

Leavitt replied that she has not yet “spoken to our relevant agencies about it.”

“I will certainly do that, and we’ll get you an answer,” she stated. “If true, of course, that’s definitely something I think this government and administration would deem worth looking into. So let me do that for you.”

The White House did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment on Thursday.

Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett told The Daily Mail in an interview published on March 22 that he thinks there is potentially a connection between other individuals throughout the U.S. having gone missing under similar “suspicious circumstances.”

“There have been several others throughout the country that have disappeared under suspicious circumstances,” the Tennessee Republican told the outlet, adding “I think we ought to be paying attention to it.”

Republican Missouri Rep. Eric Burlison wrote in a March 29 X post that the reports of the missing scientists is part of a larger “transparency problem” in the U.S. government.

“Missing scientists. Classified programs. Advanced tech,” Burlison wrote in the social media post. “This isn’t speculation, it’s a transparency problem. Congress is pushing for answers.”
