Google Chrome’s 70% Market Share is a Worrying Sign of a World Population that is Uninformed

Why people still use Google Chrome is beyond me.

It’s not like it is information that is hard to find, Google is evil. The company wages information wars and psyops against everyone who uses their search engine and it spies on people who use their browser (Chrome).

Why then are people still using Chrome (and Google search) when there are very, very decent alternatives? Including Firefox as a browser and DuckDuckGo as a search engine.

Google Chrome, it is claimed, has a 70% market share when it comes to internet browser usage. This is partially confirmed also through the data that this website, intelcaster.com, gathers and analyzes.

The obvious reason why ‘only’ 49% of our website visitors use Chrome is of course because people who want to read our content are better informed than the average person.

However, 49% is still a worrying number because it means that half of our website visitors still trust Google as a company.

Conclusion: At IntelCaster we will have to work much harder on informing our readers and supporters about why they should switch to an other browser.

Bombing and Bomb Threats

In most cases, bombing includes homemade incendiary devices such as Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs. However, as the Oklahoma City bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995 and the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 indicate, bombing can be deadly, and the injuries sustained by survivors can be catastrophic.

In Oklahoma, both bombing and making a bomb threat are felony offenses that carry significant prison terms, including mandatory minimum sentences for even an empty threat of a bomb. Oklahoma law outlines nine specific prohibited acts and one exclusion in the bombing statute found in 21 O.S. 1767.1:

Any person who shall willfully or maliciously commit any of the following acts shall be deemed guilty of a felony:

Place in, upon, under, against or near to any building, car, truck, aircraft, motor or other vehicle, vessel, railroad, railway car, or locomotive or structure, any explosive or incendiary device with unlawful intent to destroy, throw down, or injure, in whole or in part, such property, or conspire, aid, counsel or procure the destruction of any building, public or private, or any car, truck, aircraft, motor or other vehicle, vessel, railroad, railway car, or locomotive or structure; or

Place in, upon, under, against or near to any building, car, truck, aircraft, motor or other vehicle, vessel, railroad, railway car, or locomotive or structure, any explosive or incendiary device with intent to destroy, throw down, or injure in whole or in part, under circumstances that, if such intent were accomplished, human life or safety would be endangered thereby; or

By the explosion of any explosive or the igniting of any incendiary device destroy, throw down, or injure any property of another person, or cause injury to another person; or

Manufacture, sell, transport, or possess any explosive, the component parts of an explosive, an incendiary device, or simulated bomb with knowledge or intent that it or they will be used to unlawfully kill, injure or intimidate any person, or unlawfully damage any real or personal property; or

Manufacture, sell, deliver, mail or send an explosive, incendiary device, or simulated bomb to another person; or

While committing or attempting to commit any felony, possess, display, or threaten to use any explosive, incendiary device, or simulated bomb.

Nothing contained herein shall be construed to apply to, or repeal any laws pertaining to, the acts of mischief of juveniles involving no injurious firecrackers or devices commonly called "stink bombs".

Violating this statute is a felony, but the penalty varies dependent on whether or not personal injury results from the bombing. If no injuries result, making a bomb threat or placing an explosive or incendiary device is punishable by 3 to 10 years in prison. If injury occurs as a result of the bombing, the offense is punishable by 7 years to life in prison.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday, during an interview on MSNBC, that raging wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington are direct proof of the climate change disaster unfolding across the country. "Mother Earth is angry," Pelosi said. "She's telling us - whether she's telling us with hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, fires in the West, whatever it is … that the climate crisis is real and has an impact." As Pelosi spoke about the climate crisis, MSNBC showed a series of short clips highlighting the widespread devastation in her home state. Pelosi is the latest in a recent line of leading 'Party of Science' Democrats to attempt to directly connect the wildfire situation in the western US to the climate crisis.

For example, California Governor Newsom, on Sunday (Sept. 6), told reporters during a news conference that wildfires in California were "the realities of climate change." "California has always been the canary in the coal mine for climate change, and this weekend's events only underscore that reality," he said. "Wildfires have caused system failures, while near-record energy demand is predicted as a multi-state heatwave hits the West Coast for the second time in a matter of weeks." And none other than former President Barack Obama tweeted that humans were at fault for the orange skies over San Francisco. Pelosi was also heard on Thursday, speaking at a news conference, indicating if Joe Biden wins the White House and Democrats return to power - she would be fully committed to passing climate change legislation. She said legislation to combat the "climate crisis" would be among the top agenda items. "It is absolutely a priority," Pelosi said.

Pelosi made no mention of the Green New Deal, put forth by AOC.

Notably, as RT reports, both the left and the right were offended by Pelosi's colorful rhetoric... “Didn’t Pelosi mock the idea of a green new deal? Spare us your crocodile tears,” one self-proclaimed 'progressive' person wrote. And on the right, made light of what they perceived as hyperbole, mocking Pelosi for presuming to speak for the forces of nature and calling into question the Democrats’ definition of themselves as the “party of science.” However, while Democrats desperately try to connect wildfires and hurricanes to the climate crisis, maybe La Nina (see: here) could be the culprit. Or... California's "horribly mismanaged forests" might be responsible for the wildfires' scale. Or... new concerns are growing in Oregon that some of the wildfires have been started by arson. Nevertheless, Democrats are seizing the moment to push through climate change legislation that would be nothing short of ushering in an era of Modern-Monetary-Theory-funded Green new Deals, and 'Democratic' socialism.

On Wednesday evening a Washington man named Jeffrey Acord called 911 to report a fire on the side of SR-167 near Pallyup, Washington.

After calling the police, Mr. Acord then set to live streaming himself to his Facebook Page. The video was later posted to YouTube. During the video you can see the police question Acord and after a period of time, the video ends as they arrest him for Reckless Burning 2nd Degree.

Jeff Acord was seen with a lighter in his hand walking on the highway earlier in the day in Sumner. According to Q13FOX — The Sumner Grade Fire in Sumner and Bonney Lake has burned more than 800 acres and was 20 percent contained as of Thursday morning.

He was later arrested for setting the fire.

He was live-streaming on Facebook when he was arrested!

Judge Napolitano Sued for 1988 Sexual Assault; ‘Pure Fiction,’ He Says

Fox News analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano was sued Friday in Manhattan by a man who claims Napolitano sexually assaulted him in 1988 while presiding over his criminal case in New Jersey.

Law & Crime reported:

According to the complaint obtained by Law&Crime, in 1988, Napolitano lured Charles Corbishley to his New Jersey home under false pretenses and forced him to perform oral sex.

At the time, Napolitano was the judge presiding over Corbishley’s case on charges of criminal arson. His lawyer, Robert Hollis, was allegedly a self-described “friend” of Napolitano’s and successfully moved to have the case brought under his purview. Hollis then purportedly arranged for Corbishley to do yard work at Napolitano’s Hackensack residence–presumably in exchange for judicial leniency.

The lawsuit claimed that Napolitano “shortly” exited the house and approached Corbishley, summoning him to the side of the house by asking: “can you come back here for a minute?” Corbishley claimed he complied with the request. And, at first, Napolitano allegedly just engaged him in small talk about his family and a pharmacy in town.

The filing described the alleged attack in graphic detail.

According to the complaint, “Plaintiff Charles Corbishley was then forced to perform fellatio on the Honorable Andrew Napolitano, the presiding Justice on his criminal case.”

Napolitano has denied all of the claims in the lawsuit, according to a statement provided by his attorney to the New York Daily News:

“These accusations are completely false. Full stop,” Napolitano said in a statement. “I have never done anything like what the accuser describes, at any time, to anyone, for any reason. I have never had any personal relationship or inappropriate contact or communication of any kind with the man making this accusation. Each and every one of his claims against me are pure fiction. Period.”

Fox News has defended Napolitano in a statement reported by the Daily Beast: “Judge Napolitano has assured us in the strongest possible terms that these allegations are false and he will fight them aggressively in court.”

Walmart Launches "Drone Delivery" As Last-Mile Delivery War Heats Up

Walmart has partnered with Flytrex, an end-to-end drone delivery company, to launch an on-demand drone delivery service at one of it Supercenters in Fayetteville, North Carolina, this week. The unveiling of this new rapid last-mile delivery service comes a little more than one week after the company officially unveiled Walmart+, an alternative to Amazon Prime.

U.S. Marshals Service Reveals Majority of Rescued Sex-Trafficked Children Came From Foster Care

The U.S. Marshals Service recently launched a nationwide effort to recover missing and exploited children. Three major operations rescued over 100 children, many of them from sex traffickers. But a disturbing trend discovered during the operation should launch a nationwide investigation into the American child welfare system. PJ Media reached out to USMS for details on the rescued children and was told that the majority of them came from foster care. This information was ignored in the initial media reports on the operation. Dave Oney, press contact at the USMS, responded via email to questions about the rescued children.

For the Northern Ohio Operation Safety Net: 25 of the 31 children recovered were in DCFS care in either a group homes or foster case. Additionally, seven children have been confirmed victims of sex trafficking.

For Operation Not Forgotten in Georgia: 28 of the 39 recovered were in the care of DFACS; 15 were victims of sex trafficking

For Operation Homecoming in Indianapolis: Of the eight children recovered, two were in foster homes or group homes. Five were runaways with risk factors. One was a noncustodial kidnapping. The bulk of the cases still being worked are foster/group home situations.

The State Department recently confirmed that a large number of children involved in sex trafficking in the United States are coming from foster care.

In the United States, traffickers prey upon children in the foster care system. Recent reports have consistently indicated that a large number of victims of child sex trafficking were at one time in the foster care system.

Why is the foster care system not under federal investigation? For the last several years I have investigated child welfare cases all over the country and have found glaring violations of constitutional rights by family courts and child welfare agencies. I discovered child welfare agents conspiring with doctors to illegally seize custody of newborns. PJ Media columnist Jeff Reynolds and I exposed disgusting living conditions in foster care group homes and incidences of horrific abuse that led to the murders of children in the system.

Child welfare departments have been found to remove children regularly without cause from good parents who struggle with health issues or addiction to put them into the homes of actual abusers. Social workers have been caught mocking parents’ rights online and modeling “professional kidnapper” t-shirts, lying to judges to intentionally keep children illegally, and actually abusing children themselves. Social services agencies regularly get sued and lose huge amounts of money for endangering children and violating rights.

What more will it take to convince the powers that be that there is a serious problem in our child welfare agencies?

'Historic Moment' As UK Agrees To Post-Brexit Trade Deal With Japan While Talks With EU Flounder

The U.K. Department for International Trade said the deal will increase trade with Japan by an estimated £15.2 billion

The deal will also provide “strong tariff reductions” for U.K. pork and beef exports

Britain’s total trade volume with Japan in 2018 amounted to £29 billion

The U.K. has reached an agreement in principle on a trade deal with Japan, the world’s third largest economy.

The U.K.-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement will be Britain’s first major trade pact of the Brexit era.

U.K. Secretary of State for International Trade Liz Truss and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi signed off on the deal during a video conference Friday morning.

The U.K. Department for International Trade said the deal will increase trade with Japan by an estimated £15.2 billion ($19.5 billion). (The Department did not specify a time frame for this figure)

“This is a historic moment for the U.K. and Japan as our first major post-Brexit trade deal,” Truss said in a statement. “The agreement we have negotiated – in record time and in challenging circumstances – goes far beyond the existing EU deal [with Japan], as it secures new wins for British businesses in our great manufacturing, food and drink, and tech industries.”

The International Trade Department further said the agreement will provide a boost to Britain’s annual gross domestic product by £1.5 billion ($1.92 billion).

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “The U.K. has just signed a major free trade agreement with Japan. We have taken back control of our trade policy [and] will continue to thrive as a trading nation outside the EU.”

Truss added: "From our automotive workers in Wales to our shoemakers in the North of England, this deal will help … create new opportunities for people throughout the whole of the U.K. and help level up our country."

Under terms of the deal, the U.K. will benefit from tariff-free trade on 99% of exports to Japan.

The deal will also provide “strong tariff reductions” for U.K. pork and beef exports and low tariffs for iconic British products such as Stilton cheese.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Disciplining Police While Ignoring Deadly Rioters

The mayor of Portland, Oregon, where violent and even deadly riots have taken place nightly for more than 100 days, is now disciplining police officers who are accused of misconduct as they respond to rioters.

As Breitbart News reported, a majority of Portland voters disapprove of Wheeler’s job performance, and rioters have demanded he step down as mayor and police commissioner.

Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), a taxpayer-funded media outlet that produces daily anti-Trump content, produced a video of a police officer “tackling and punching a protester”:

In recent weeks, the mayor has said he too is concerned the accountability process for police takes too long. Investigations by the Independent Police Review, the city agency responsible for digging into allegations of police misconduct, can drag on for months before there’s a decision. In a press conference on Aug 26, Wheeler said he wanted to meet with the police bureau to find a way to hold officers at protests “accountable in real time.”

Kristen Dennis, Wheeler’s chief of staff, said a new direction was passed on to the Chief’s office last week: certain police should be placed on administrative duty and taken off the street while investigations into potential misconduct wind their way through the system.

The officer who was captured by OPB tackling a protester and punching them repeatedly as they lay on the ground has been placed on administrative duty under the new direction, according to Dennis.

OPB reported that two additional officers had also been placed on administrative leave for unspecified reasons:

A 24-year-old Richfield man was charged in U.S. District Court with arson Friday for allegedly breaking into the Target headquarters building in downtown Minneapolis and starting a fire in the mailroom.

The incident occurred at 10:55 p.m. on Aug. 26 during a night of civil unrest after the suspect in a downtown homicide committed suicide and a false rumor circulated that he had been shot and killed by police.

Shador Tommie Cortez Jackson, who was charged the arson, made an initial appearance Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Tony Leung in Minneapolis and was ordered detained pending a formal detention and preliminary hearing next Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald issued a news release saying that investigators had reviewed Target surveillance video showing Jackson using a construction sign to break through one of the glass doors at the its headquarters at 1000 Nicollet Mall.

Additional video inside the store shows Jackson entering the Target mailroom and setting a fire on a counter, according to a criminal complaint drawn up by Sara Thomas, a special agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Google Will Block Some Search Suggestions to Fight ‘Election Misinformation’

Tech giant Google has promised to block certain autocomplete search suggestions ahead of the November election in an effort to fight “misinformation.” One search suggestion given as an example of election “misinformation” is “You can vote yourself into socialism” given as a search suggestion when “You can vote” is typed in.

Bloomberg reports that tech giant Google has announced plans to prevent misinformation spreading ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November by blocking certain autocomplete search suggestions. The autocomplete program regularly recommends full queries to users once they begin typing words, but Google now says it will remove predictions that could be seen as claims for or against candidates or political parties.

Google also plans to pull claims from the autocomplete program about participation in the election including statements about voting methods, requirements, the status of voting locations, and election security.

If a user types for example “you can vote” into Google’s search engine, autocomplete may suggest a query that includes misleading information according to the company. Bloomberg claims that typing the phrase into Google recently yielded the suggestion “You can vote yourself into socialism,” as the top query. According to Google, this search autocomplete is considered election misinformation.

David Graff, the senior director of global policy & standards at Google, commented on the decision stating: “That might mean some perfectly benign predictions get swept up in this. We think that’s the most responsible approach, particularly when it comes to elections-related queries.”

A Washington state man was charged this week with attempting to set ablaze police cars during unrest in Seattle just days after George Floyd died in police custody.

Thomas Kelly Jackson, 20, of Edmonds, Wash., was arrested Wednesday after investigators placed him in downtown Seattle May 30 through a review of videos and cell phone records. He is charged with arson and unlawful possession of a destructive device.

He was on video throwing a Molotov cocktail into a vehicle while another video shows him throwing a glass bottle with a wick.

A second Molotov cocktail was thrown at a police windshield before it bounced and ignited on the street near a Nordstrom store, prosecutors said.

Cell phone records placed him at the scene at the time of the fires, the Justice Department said. In addition, Jackson allegedly searched online how to construct Molotov cocktails.

He faces up to 30 years in prison.

The term “dark money” is used in US politics to refer to political spending by nonprofit organizations allied with both the Dems and the GOP that are allowed by federal law to receive unlimited donations from individuals and corporations without being required to disclose their donors.

A network of left-wing non-profit organisations is assisting US Democrats to “carpet bomb” the 2020 US presidential election with “buckets of anonymous cash”, a Friday report from conservative watchdog, Capital Research Center (CRC), claimed.

The report claimed that the shadowy network is operated by a “$600 million empire” called Arabella Advisors, a Washington-based for-profit firm that acts to consult with left-leaning nonprofits and donors on best practices for progressive donations. The CRC report claimed that Arabella “centered on four nonprofit ‘sisters’—the Sixteen Thirty Fund, New Venture Fund, Windward Fund, and Hopewell Fund” has for years legally used “dark money” to meddle in US elections, including the 2018 midterm elections.

“If 2018 is any indicator, we should expect to see the Left carpet-bomb the 2020 presidential election with buckets of anonymous cash, while complaining about the evils of ‘dark money’ the entire time,” the report said.

The CRC said that the so-called left-wing network reported revenues of $2.4 billion and nearly $1.9 billion in expenditures in the period between 2006 and 2018. The report highlighted that the Arabella network’s revenue in 2018 alone, the year of the midterm elections, was $635 million, and $582 million in 2017.

The CRC report compared Arabella Advisors revenue to some prominent conservative foundations, such as The Heritage Foundation and Americans for Prosperity, which brought, respectively, $82 million and $58 million in revenue during the midterm election year, asserting that the liberal “dark money” group’s revenue was “almost eight times more than Heritage and 11 times more than Americans for Prosperity”.

The report also claimed that Arabella Advisors “created and actively manages” the four dark money organisations, which, as with the conservative foundations, are not required by federal law to disclose their donors.

“Each plays a slightly different role in the network, but all share the same basic functions—sponsoring pop-up groups (also called “projects”) and paying out grants to other left-wing nonprofits,” the report claimed, referring to limited-time activist websites that are allegedly used for campaigning for political causes.

In a statement to Fox News, Steve Sampson, a spokesman for Arabella Advisors, rejected the CRC allegations, describing the report as a “gross mischaracterization” of the consultancy's work and of its client organizations.

“Arabella Advisors is a consulting business that supports effective philanthropy and impact investing,” Sampson stated. “Our clients include a variety of nonprofit organizations that hire Arabella for shared administrative services, including the New Venture Fund, the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the Hopewell Fund, and the Windward Fund.”

Sampson added that Arabella’s client organizations “make grants to a range of projects across the ideological spectrum, most of which have nothing to do with politics”.

“Arabella Advisors is not the source of funding for any of these organizations, and we do not exert control over the spending decisions of our clients,” Sampson detailed.

Amy Kurtz, executive director of the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a non-profit described in the CRC report as a “lobbying shop for the Arabella network”, described the allegations as “completely false”, noting that the fund is “committed to following the current laws”, like many other 501c4 organizations on both sides fo the political aisle that are exempt from some federal income taxes.

“The Sixteen Thirty Fund is confronting the biggest social challenges in our country through fiscal sponsorship, advocacy and electoral action like many other 501c4 organizations, and we are committed to following the current laws to level the playing field for progressives in this election,” Kurtz said in a statement quoted by Fox News.

On 3 November, the United States is set to hold a presidential election in which incumbent Republican President Donald Trump will vie with Democratic nominee and former US vice president, Joe Biden, for the top executive position in the nation.

Signal: Domain Fronting to Avoid Censorship

History

Direct access to Signal has been censored in Egypt, Oman, Qatar, and UAE for the past 1.5 years. These countries attempt to block Signal by blocking connections to Signal servers from all ISPs.

Like most modern services, Signal does not have a single static IP address that ISPs can filter. In cloud environments, IP addresses can change over time as load balancers scale up and down, and the addresses aren’t even always dedicated to a single endpoint. Amazon CloudFront, for example, may terminate requests on the same IP for any number of services that wish to distribute content on their CDN. This can make it more difficult for a censor to identify traffic based on IP address alone.

Unfortunately, a TLS handshake fully exposes the target hostname in plaintext, since the hostname is included in the SNI header in the clear. This remains the case even in TLS 1.3, and it gives a censor all they need.

However, several cloud environments were built with an idiosyncrasy that allowed us to work around this TLS metadata problem. Google and Amazon built their TLS termination layer separately from their request processing layer, such that it was possible to create what looked like a TLS connection for domain A with a request that would actually be received and processed by domain B. This is known as “domain fronting.”

When access to Signal was originally censored in Egypt, Oman, Qatar, and UAE, we responded by deploying domain fronting in those countries through Google App Engine. This meant that to block Signal, those countries would also have to block google.com. That was not a step those countries were willing to take, and as a result Signal has been usable there for the past 1.5 years, even though direct access remains blocked. This required no configuration from users; they could simply install the app and use it as normal.

Direct access to Signal has also been blocked in Iran for the past 3+ years, but it was not possible to use the same domain fronting technique there. In an apparently unique interpretation of US sanction law, Google does not allow any requests from Iran to be processed by Google App Engine. Requests would get past Iranian censors, but then Google themselves would block them.

In early 2018, a number of policy organizations increased pressure on Google to change their position on how they were interpreting US sanction law so that domain fronting would be possible from Iran. Sadly, these lobbying efforts seem to have had the opposite effect. When Google’s leadership became more aware of domain fronting, it generated internal conversations about whether they wanted to put themselves in the situation of providing cover for sites that entire countries wished to block.

A month later, we received 30-day advance notice from Google that they would be making internal changes to stop domain fronting from working entirely.

With Google no longer an option, we decided to look for popular domains in censored regions that were on CloudFront instead. Nothing is anywhere near as popular as Google, but there were a few sites that used CloudFront in the Alexa top 50 or 100. We’re an open source project, so the commit switching from GAE to CloudFront was public. Someone saw the commit and submitted it to HN. That post became popular, and apparently people inside Amazon saw it too.

That’s how we got to the above email. Although our interpretation is ultimately not the one that matters, we don’t believe that we are violating the terms they describe:

Our CloudFront distribution isn’t using the SSL certificate of any domain but our own.

We aren’t falsifying the origin of traffic when our clients connect to CloudFront.

However, in the time-honored tradition of sharing unpopular news late on a Friday afternoon, a few days ago Amazon also announced what they are calling Enhanced Domain Protections for Amazon CloudFront Requests. It is a set of changes designed to prevent domain fronting from working entirely, across all of CloudFront.

Future

With Google Cloud and AWS out of the picture, it seems that domain fronting as a censorship circumvention technique is now largely non-viable in the countries where Signal had enabled this feature. The idea behind domain fronting was that to block a single site, you’d have to block the rest of the internet as well. In the end, the rest of the internet didn’t like that plan.

We are considering ideas for a more robust system, but these ecosystem changes have happened very suddenly. Our team is only a few people, and developing new techniques will take time. Moreover, if recent changes by large cloud providers indicate a commitment to providing network-level visibility into the final destination of encrypted traffic flows, then the range of potential solutions becomes severely limited. If you’d like to help, we’re hiring.

In the meantime, the censors in these countries will have (at least temporarily) achieved their goals. Sadly, they didn’t have to do anything but wait.

This is a serious problem, considering users download these apps in the hopes that their photos and messages will stay completely protected from third parties. These apps, which have countless users, cannot assume that their users are security educated and understand the risk of enabling certain settings on their device. As such, they have an obligation to explain the risks to users, and when possible, adopt safer defaults in their settings. In this post, we will show how an attacker could compromise these applications by performing side-channel attacks that target the operating system these apps delegated their security to. This post will dive into the methods in which these apps handle users' data. It will not include deep technical analysis of these companies' security.

Ashland Police Chief Tighe O'Meara announced Thursday a criminal investigation has been opened into the cause of the fire saying he believes the circumstances around the fire are 'suspicious'.

Investigators are looking into the possible connection between the blaze and the death of an unidentified individual, whose body was found near the origin of the fire.

'We have good reason to believe that there was a human element to it,' O'Meara said of the Almeda fire Thursday.

'We're going to pursue it as a criminal investigation until we have reason to believe that it was otherwise.'

O'Meara did not elaborate on the suspicions of authorities but said police are working alongside the Jackson County Sheriff's Office on the investigation 'including the resulting death that occurred nearby along the Greenway.'

Sheriff Nathan Sickler confirmed Wednesday that a body had been discovered around a mile from the origin point of the fire along the Bear Creek Greenway in north Ashland.

Logically’s fact-checking unit falls under the editorial department of Logically Ltd, which is registered in London and has offices in India and the UK. President NIcolas Maduro of Venezuela has announced the capture of “an American spy” with heavy weapons and money near two refineries in the state of Falcon. The man is said to be a Marine who worked for the CIA in Iraq.

The spy was trying to collect information on the refineries in Amuay and Cardón, Maduro said in a televised address on Friday. The two facilities are located on the Paraguaná Peninsula, along the Venezuelan coast just south of Aruba.

According to the president, the detained American is a member of the US Marine Corps who worked with the CIA in Iraq, and was captured with “heavy, specialized weapons and a large amount of cash.”

Maduro added that he ordered heightened security at all Venezuelan refineries after the spy was captured. Earlier, he said, the country’s Petroleum Ministry discovered and thwarted a plan “to cause an explosion” at the El Palito refinery in Carabobo, west of Caracas...

...The US government denied any knowledge or involvement in the operation. So did Guaido, insisting he had “no link, commitment or responsibility to Silvercorp or its actions.” Earlier in May, however, the Washington Post had published a 41-page contract between Guaido and Silvercorp referring to him as “commander in chief.”

Denman told the Venezuelan authorities the company’s executives had met with Guaido while he was visiting the White House. He and the other Green Beret, Airan Berry, were sentenced last month to 20 years in prison over the plot.

Signal: What is it and why is everyone talking about it?

...The origins of the Signal app goes back to 2010, when a company called Whisper Systems first launched two Android apps: One was TextSecure, which encrypted text messages, and the other was RedPhone, which did the same for voice calls. Jonathan Maas was arrested for allegedly starting a fire in the woods near the frisbee golf course at Dexter State Recreation Area in Oregon.

A man faces accusations he tried to start a fire in the woods near the frisbee golf course at Dexter State Recreation Area on Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found passersby had quickly put out the fire, the Dexter fire chief said earlier this week.

“The fire was in a wooded area and was approximately 5 feet in diameter before it was extinguished by two people playing frisbee golf in the area,” the sheriff’s office said. “A man in a minivan was seen leaving the area shortly before the fire was discovered.”

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office investigated the fire.

On Thursday, deputies arrested Jonathan Maas, 44, of Springfield on suspicion of arson in the first degree in connection with the Dexter fire.

Transient Michael Jarrod Bakkela, who has a lengthy criminal record, was arrested for allegedly starting the Almeda Fire that roared through Phoenix and Talent, Oregon this week.

A man faces accusations he set a fire during the Almeda Fire that roared through Phoneix and Talent this week.

“This case is separate from the Almeda Fire investigation but the investigations have been a joint effort by the Major Assault Death Investigation Unit,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The investigation started September 8 with a report to 911 that residents witnessed the man “lighting a fire behind their house on Quail Lane,” the sheriff’s office said. “Due to the impending fire, the witnesses had to flee their home and could not be interviewed immediately.”

When deputies and stop troopers arrived, they found Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, standing “close to a very large fire threatening several homes, the sheriff’s office said.

US Senate Intelligence Committee requests DHS data after whistleblower complaint

The US Senate Intelligence Committee on Friday sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requesting that it submits all intelligence assessments related to a whistleblower’s complaint that the Trump administration allegedly mishandled data.

Earlier this week, former Acting DHS Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis Brian Murphy accused White House officials of manipulating, censoring and politicizing the department's intelligence, including on Russia’s alleged interference in US elections, so that it supported the Trump administration's claims.

"As the Committee investigates this matter, we respectfully request that you provide the Committee with all intelligence assessments produced by I&A [Office of Intelligence and Analysis] related to Mr. Murphy’s complaint including but not limited to products related to migration and asylum, foreign interference in US elections, and domestic threats related to white supremacism, Antifa and ‘anarchist groups,’" Acting Committee Chairman Marco Rubio and Vice Chairman Mark Warner said in the letter.

The senators also asked the DHS to provide by September 18 source notes, a compilation of underlying intelligence and a comprehensive accounting of how the assessments were produced.

Murphy alleged in the complaint - submitted to the DHS Inspector General this week - that White House and DHS officials had asked him on various occasions to manipulate intelligence in support of the Trump administration's various claims such as that terrorists were a threat on the southern US border and that the far-Left Antifa movement and other anarchists were domestic terrorists.

Murphy also claimed that senior Trump administration officials suppressed intelligence reports about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election and sought to highlight data on meddling by China and Iran.

US House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff sent a letter to Murphy earlier asking him to appear before the panel for a deposition on 21 September.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), without evidence, declared Friday that the ongoing wildfires in his state prove the science surrounding global warming is now officially settled.

“The debate is over around climate change. Just come to the state of California, observe it with your own eyes,” a grinning Newsom told reporters while touring the fire-ravaged North Complex near Oroville. “It’s not an intellectual debate, it’s not even debatable.”

“We’re in the midst of a climate emergency, we’re in the midst of a climate crisis,” he continued. “We’re experiences weather conditions the likes of which we’ve never experienced in our lifetime. We’re experiencing what so many people predicted decades and decades ago. All of that now is reality.”

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Thursday that the August Complex Fire has burned 471,185 acres in the Elk Creek and Stonyford area, surpassing the 2018 Mendocino Complex Fire, which burned 459,123 acres.

Six of the largest fires in California’s history have taken place in 2020. Cal Fire said 29 major wildfires are active and more than 3.1 million acres have burned in the state since the beginning of the season.

The National Interagency Fire Center said 102 large fires have burned a combined 4.4 million acres in 12 states in the western United States, resulting in some two dozen deaths in California, Oregon, and Washington.

In California, five people were killed in the LNU Lightning Complex, 10 were killed in the North Complex, and one each was killed in the CZU August Lightning Complex, August Lightning Complex, Tatham Fire, and Hills Fires.

ATLANTA — An Atlanta film producer has been indicted on federal charges connected to a cryptocurrency investment scheme. He’s accused of raising millions from investors and spending the money on personal items and using several others including Atlanta rapper T.I. to help promote his business.

The U.S. Attorneys office says Ryan Felton misled investors who thought they were funding an entertainment streaming platform and a new cryptocurrency.

Prosecutors say Felton instead used that money for personal use including a $1.5 million home, and a 2007 Ferrari that he paid $180,000 cash for.

Felton also posed as a potential investor using fake names on internet forums and social media to build excitement for his business and after the initial coin offering he sold thousands of coins on secondary crypto-markets to artificially inflate prices, prosecutors say.

A separate Securities and Exchange Commission investigation found rapper/actor Clifford Harris Jr., also known as T.I., promoted Felton’s unregistered and fraudulent coin offerings.

The SEC found Harris offered and sold tokens on his social media accounts and made false claims about being a co-owner of Felton’s company and encouraged his followers to invest.

Harris, his social media manager William Sparks Jr., and two Atlanta residents, Chance White and Owen Smith, promoted the tokens without disclosing they received compensation in return, the report says.

The SEC complaint against Harris and the others is not criminal but does carry penalties. Harris is required to pay $75,000 in a civil penalty and he is not to participate in the sale of digital-asset securities for the next five years.

The case against Felton is criminal and is now being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Pope Francis has been a figure of controversy since his election in 2013. For some, his papacy hasn’t gone far enough in reforming the Roman Catholic Church, especially in acknowledging the sexual abuse of so many. Others believe he’s crossed the line by advocating a radical liberal agenda, including climate change, radical wealth redistribution, and his condemnation of capitalism.

But on the matter of human sexuality, Cheech and Chong’s old joke comes to mind: “You no playa da game, you no make-a da rules.” Most popes have heeded that advice and, outside of telling Catholics they can’t use artificial birth control, some ancient strictures have remained.

Now, along comes Pope Francis, who blesses the sex act, calling it a “divine gift.” He also praises the pleasures of eating as from God.

At the rate he’s going, he’ll whittle down those Seven Deadly Sins to just one or two.

In an interview with Italian writer Carlo Petrini, who has compiled several conversations with the pope for a new book, his Holiness referred to sex and food, among other delights, as gifts from God. Furthermore, to enjoy them is not sinful, as “overzealous” church leaders have taught in the past.

“Pleasure arrives directly from God. It is neither Catholic nor Christian nor anything else; it is simply divine,” he tells Petrini in the book “TerraFutura: Conversations With Pope Francis on Integral Ecology,” an English working title, out now in Italy. “The pleasure of eating and sexual pleasure come from God.”

While this is self-evident, it may be interpreted as condemning the “overzealous” past popes who insisted that sex was holy only when done in the context of marriage and only if it was intended to be an act of procreation. Obviously, Francis is not referring to sex outside of marriage. And as far as eating, he’s not referring to overeating — the sin of gluttony.

But is he saying that sexual pleasure is holy even if procreation isn’t the intent?

Francis continued, referring to the church’s past condemnation for life’s gustatory and sexual pleasures as “overzealous morality … A wrong interpretation of the Christian message.”

“The pleasure of eating is there to keep you healthy by eating, just like sexual pleasure is there to make love more beautiful and guarantee the perpetuation of the species,” said the Pontifex Maximus.

It appears that this is a pope who lives in the modern world. A Catholic might interpret those words to mean that any loving union where sex is enjoyed is blessed by God, not necessarily one involving marriage.

Is that really revolutionary?

“I don’t think it’s unusual for a pope to say what he specifically said, though,” said writer and Catholic critic Peter Williams. “In calling the enjoyment of food and sex ‘divine’, the Holy Father is rightly pointing out that pleasure comes from God.” Williams told Newsweek that the Bishop of Rome was describing “the church’s acceptance of ‘human, simple, moral pleasure,’ like good cuisine and fulsome sexual love in marriage.”

As the pope said, the fact that sexual pleasure is “divine” is simply common sense. But without the intent to procreate? St. Paul might have been doubtful, but it’s a simple acknowledgment on the part of Pope Francis that the divine gift of sexual pleasure among lovers comes from heaven and whether they pursue a sexual liaison for procreative purposes or not, it is a blessed act.

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - The FBI is seeking the public’s help to find a man involved in the theft of several million dollars worth of ventilators.

Authorities said the ventilators were stolen from a cargo ship in August and were found in Southwest Miami-Dade.

The equipment, worth $3 million, was supposed to be shipped to El Salvador to help in their battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Investigators said Yoelvis Dennis Hernandez was involved in the heist, and the FBI is offering $5,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Brennan's early career:

Brennan was the son of Irish immigrants. 'Certain Moral Ownership': CENTCOM Head Says Attacks on US Troops in Iraq Rising, Refers to Iran

Recently, the administration of US President Donald Trump announced that it would reduce the nation's military presence in Iraq, stating that some 2,000 troops would be withdrawn from the country by the end of September.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief, Gen. Frank McKenzie, told NBC News that attacks on US troops conducted by "militia groups" in Iraq have increased in the first half of 2020, compared to the previous year.

He outlined that the attacks have not been lethal, stressing, however, that they are "continuing".

"We have had more indirect fire attacks around and against our bases the first half of this year than we did the first half of last year. They have not been particularly lethal and that's a good thing, but they are continuing", McKenzie said.

The general also highlighted that the weapons obtained by the militia groups attacking US troops in Iraq are "very good", but claimed that weapons are not necessarily effective against American soldiers.

"For whatever reason, it may be by design, we don't know, they're just not that successful at hitting anyone. And that's a blessing", McKenzie said, adding that he would not predict how long that will continue.

Despite not specifically naming the militia groups that target US troops in Iraq, McKenzie linked the attacks to Iran, implying that "Iran's goal is to force the US to leave the region" and saying that the Islamic republic has been trying to influence the Iraqi government to force the Americans to leave the region.

"It is now evident, at least to me, that that solution is not going to occur for them, that the government of Iraq sees the benefits of maintaining a long-term security relationship with the United States, with NATO, with our coalition partners", McKenzie said, adding that the US would maintain a security relationship with Iraq.

According to the general, the US military has installed additional defensive capabilities, particularly Patriot defence missile systems, to be ready for alleged "aggressive actions" by Iran in the region. He claimed that Tehran could "pursue other objectives by inflicting a level of pain below what they think is the US red line".

McKenzie previously admitted that not every militia group behind the attacks in Iraq can be "tied directly" to Tehran. However, the general claimed that Iran still bears "moral ownership", as weapons used in the attacks were allegedly "provided to them by Iran at some point in the process".

"You wonder how much of that is directed by Iran, how much of that is by proxies on the ground that they have imperfect command and control of," McKenzie said. "The bottom line is, even if it's not directly ordered by Iran, they are using weapons that were typically provided to them by Iran at some point in the process, so there's a certain moral ownership of this even if Iran is not giving them instructions to do it."

US Military Presence in Iraq

McKenzie's remarks came shortly after he announced that the United States would be reducing its military presence in Iraq, promising the withdrawal of around 2,000 troops from the region by the end of September, citing "confidence in Iraqi Security Forces".

Currently, some 5,200 US soldiers are deployed in Iraq, with the Pentagon initially reporting that it had placed the troops in the country to assist in combating the Daesh* terrorist group.

Plans to reduce the foreign military presence in Iraq were earlier announced by the Trump administration, and the president will reportedly make a statement regarding American troops in Afghanistan in coming days.

Tensions between Iran and the US

Relations between Washington and Tehran have been heated after Trump in 2018 unilaterally exited the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the nuclear deal with Iran, referring to Tehran's "pursuit of nuclear weapons and the means of delivering them." UN and independent watchdog agencies previously affirmed that Tehran, in spite of the assertions of the White House, had kept to the letter of the treaty.

Escalation increased after the assassination of the Islamic republic's top general, Qasem Soleimani, conducted in January on Trump's order.

Recently, the Trump administration has tried to push its resolution in the UN Security Council, demanding an extension to the Iranian arms embargo - a move that was rejected. A subsequent move by Trump's advisers to trigger a so-called "snapback mechanism" and reimpose sanctions on Iran was also summarily dismissed by the remaining participants of the JCPOA.

Earlier in the week, Trump declared that Tehran would "rapidly" sign an agreement with the White House, in the event that he is re-elected.

ISIS Faced Fierce Russian Air Response To Its Attack In Southern Raqqa

Late on September 11, ISIS terrorists launched an attack on Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in the southern Raqqa countryside.

According to the “Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently” blog, the attack targeted positions in the vicinity of the towns of Resafa and al-Mansurah. Local sources reported heavy clashes in the region.

ISIS’ attack provoked a fierce response from the Russian Aerospace Forces. Russian warplanes provided Syrian troops with close air support. More than eight airstrikes targeted the terrorist group’s forces, foiling the attack.

The attack on southern Raqqa was likely launched from the Homs desert, the main stronghold of ISIS terrorists in the central region.

Russian warplanes have been pounding ISIS hideouts in the Homs desert for the last few weeks. According to a recent report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the airstrikes and clashes with the SAA have claimed the lives of 38 terrorists, so far.

Despite sustaining heavy losses, ISIS remnants in the Homs desert are still determined to expand their influence in the central region.

The panel’s report also doesn’t explain why visitor security logs for the gated Sarasota community and photos of license tags matched vehicles driven by the hijackers, including 9/11 ringleader Mohamed Atta.

The three-member review panel was appointed by FBI Director James Comey, who also officially released the findings.
