Abe eyes holding press conference on Fri.: officials

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to hold a press conference on Friday amid growing concern about his health, senior government officials said Tuesday. Abe is expected to provide an explanation about the measures his government has been taking in response to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as concerning his health condition, the officials said.

Abe "should explain (his health condition) by himself. I suppose he will tell (the public) that he is fine," said a senior lawmaker of Abe's Liberal Democratic Party.

It would be Abe's first press conference at his office in Tokyo since June 18.

For the first time in two weeks, Abe started work from the morning at the prime minister's office, working there for eight hours in what some saw as an attempt to quell speculation that his health may be deteriorating.

"His voice is regaining its strength," a source at the prime minister's office said.

Abe, whose first 2006-2007 stint as prime minister was abruptly ended by an intestinal disease called ulcerative colitis, has seemingly stayed healthy since returning to power in 2012 with the help of a new drug. On Monday, Abe revisited Keio University Hospital in Tokyo to be informed of the results of the checkup he had a week earlier and to undergo additional tests. "I would like to inform you all at another time," he told reporters then.

The hospital visit put a damper on the milestone the same day of Abe becoming Japan's longest-serving prime minister with 2,799 uninterrupted days in office, breaking the previous record held by his great-uncle Eisaku Sato.

Speculation about Abe's health, initially triggered when a magazine reported he had vomited blood in July, has been swirling since he spent more than seven hours at the hospital on Aug. 17.

Nearly Five Million Americans Became Gun Owners in First Half of 2020

Record-setting year for gun sales could play major role in presidential election

Nearly five million Americans became first-time gun owners in 2020, according to a new report.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the gun industry's trade group, estimates that 17.1 million guns have been sold between January and August with 4.84 million Americans purchasing their first guns. The sales—especially to new owners—represent a significant shift in American attitudes on gun ownership.

"This is a tectonic shift in the firearm and ammunition industry marketplace and complete transformation of today’s gun-owning community," Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel, said in a statement.

Wex Gunworks in Delray Beach, Fla., has been "slammed" with demand from first-time buyers, according to owner Brandon Wexler. Wexler attributed the surge—which threatened to cause supply shortages—to uncertainty fostered by the coronavirus pandemic and rioting in cities across the country.

"Since the eruption of Covid-19 and the age of protests new gun owners have flocked to the shop to buy firearms, accessories, and get firearms training," Wexler told the Washington Free Beacon. "We were slammed up through about six weeks ago, then inventory dried up from a manufacturing standpoint."

New buyers could represent a political boon for gun-rights groups and pro-gun politicians in the coming months or years. Some gun-rights groups have already seen memberships spike. The NRA, which is supporting President Trump's reelection, claims to have added 1,000 new members per day through the months of June and July. Another recent NSSF survey indicated that black Americans and women were among the fastest-growing demographics for new buyers. If gun-rights activists are able to make inroads with groups of Americans who have traditionally favored more gun control, the effect on November's election could be especially significant.

"These first-time buyers represent a group of people who, until now, were agnostic regarding firearm ownership," Keane said. "That’s rapidly changing, and these Americans are taking hold of their God-given right to keep and bear arms and protect themselves and their loved ones."

To determine the number of new owners, NSSF said it combined their gun sales estimate with a recent dealer survey. The group said it expects gun sales to continue to boom in the second half of 2020 due to the political environment surrounding the 2020 elections—especially the aggressive gun-control policies proposed by Democratic candidates.

"Firearm sales typically rise during presidential election years," NSSF said in a statement. "Democratic candidates Joe Biden and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) are calling for stringent gun-control measures, including forcible confiscation, banning entire classes of firearms from lawful possession, licensing schemes and repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which would expose the firearm industry to frivolous and harassing lawsuits."

On Saturday night it was night 87 of the Portland Professional Protester™ planned riots, brought to you by Portland antifa, Mayor Ted Wheeler, DA Mike Schmidt and Black Lives Matter,Inc™.

Portland police came under the usual assault by rioters’ using rocks, lasers, bottles, eggs and the usual battery of ballistics.

Rioters were told to disperse as they attempted to get at the Kelly Building which houses government offices and is a frequent target.

A news release by the Portland Police Bureau says that the rioters wouldn’t disperse and were warned “crowd control” would be used if they didn’t vamoose. They didn’t.

Another Antifa BLM Riot Is Declared

Officers stayed back a significant distance in the parking lot in an attempt to deescalate the situation.

Someone rolled a mock guillotine with a stuffed bear into the street (photo). The bear and multiple U.S. flags were burned. Paint balloons were launched at officers, as well as green lasers.

Officers initiated another push, attempting to convince the group to leave. This time, they went south on Southeast 47th Avenue to Southeast Stark Street. Officers disengaged again. Protesters lit traffic barricades, mattresses, a door, and other debris on fire in the intersection (photo courtesy @infopig).

Emergency calls were once again ignored while the children were throwing their nightly violent tantrum in Portland.

Between 45 and 50 officers had to be pulled from precincts to assist in the protest response. For most of the duration of this event, there were between 120 and 140 calls holding in the City of Portland. Calls included shots fired, assaults, alarms, threats, and suspicious circumstances.

Crowd control munitions were used during this event, however no CS gas was deployed.

Antifa’s Alice Phallus Is Arrested

Police say they arrested 14. Among them was Alice Elizabeth Johnson. The woman, who just celebrated her 28 birthday – Happy Birthday, Alice! – was charged with interfering with a Portland Police officer. She was let off on her own recognizance and required to post $0.00 bail. Zero. That’s a nice birthday present from the new DA.

At night, Alice appears to be an antifa warrior for the far Left. She leaves the comfort of home to take on imaginary fascists and racists. Fascists and racists are defined as people who don’t agree with her. For example, you’re a “fascist” and a “racist” if you support police officers.

Victorian premier lashes dangerous virus belief

Premier Daniel Andrews has taken aim at Victorians who still hold a very dangerous belief about the state's second COVID-19 wave.

The Victorian premier has taken aim at "conspiracy theorists" who still believe the COVID-19 pandemic is fake.

While some of the virus restrictions have been “very painful”, Premier Daniel Andrews said people need to remember why they are necessary.

“There are some in the community who don’t think this is real. There are some who think, ‘Let it rip. I’m fit. Young and healthy’,” Mr Andrews said.

“The problem with your hospital system being overrun is it isn’t just overrun and struggling to provide care and support to COVID-19 patients, every stroke, motor vehicle accident, heart attack, every cancer surgery, everything we need that is time-critical gets overrun.”

Mr Andrews said you only needed to look at other parts of the world to see how much damage the virus can cause when left unchecked.

Victoria recorded its second deadliest day of the pandemic on Wednesday, with 24 deaths and 149 cases.

"If we haven't got the legal authority to be able to say to someone who's positive, 'Righto. You have to stay at home for 14 days', but we ignore that fact, we open up, businesses start to employ again, people start to moving around the community again, we get the inevitable extra cases, we get the outbreaks – we all know where that leads.

"That will lead to rather than businesses recovering, workers getting back to work, families having that sense of financial security, we will just be essentially in the beginning of a third wave," he said.

"We want to make sure that we can provide as many people with as clear a plan as possible. If it there's not some legal authority to underpin that, well, then, you wouldn't be giving people certainty. You would be, in fact, doing quite the opposite."

Okay people keep asking about these hard drives I posted the receipt for in another thread. I will refer you to the transcripts of James Baker former FBI GC. Baker, who was interviewed by a joint committee of the HJC & the HPSCI just weeks before the 2018 midterm election.

Baker stated during day one of his interview, conducted on Oct 3, 2018, that the FBI and the DOJ did not “infiltrate or surveil” the Trump campaign for “political purposes.”

Baker simultaneously denied on day one that Obama administration officials made “demands or requests” of the FBI and the DOJ to “infiltrate or surveil” the Trump campaign, which is a lie.

At the beginning of Baker’s day two testimony, conducted on Oct 18, 2018, Baker interrupted RJim Jordan stating he wanted to amend the record of his day one testimony, thereby sidestepping a potential perjury charge.

Between day 1 of his interview & day 2, Baker suddenly "recalled" that Dennis Montgomery had turned over to the FBI evidence in 2015 in the form of digital storage devices that, Montgomery says, proved that the US gov't illegally surveilled American citizens & gov't officials.

According to Montgomery & his lawyer, in 2015, with the help of US District Court Judge Royce Lamberth, onetime head of the FISA court, Montgomery obtained 2 limited immunity agreements, for testimony and production, through AUSAy Deborah Curtis and FBI GC James Baker.

This was key because Montgomery was the designer and developer of a super-surveillance system, known as “THE HAMMER,” (HAMR) that was intended for foreign surveillance purposes only.

The WikiLeaks CIA Vault 7 document dump on March 7, 2017, confirmed the existence of “THE HAMMER” (HAMR).

According to military sources, “THE HAMMER” (HAMR) had multiple echelons of safeguards in place to ensure that the foreign super-surveillance system would never be used for illegal domestic surveillance operations against the American people.

Those same military sources state that Montgomery’s work was effective. Montgomery’s foreign surveillance system not only worked, but it also saved American lives.

According to Montgomery, the Obama administration turned that super-surveillance system against the American people, including FISA court judges, SCOTUS justices, and Donald J. Trump, among many others.

The Obama administration used data harvested by the illegal super-surveillance system for “leverage” and “blackmail,” according to Montgomery.

Tikhanovskaya Says US Assistant Secretary of State Biegun Vowed to Help Belarus Opposition

Ex-Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said in an interview with Fox News that US Assistant Secretary of State Stephen Biegun had vowed to help Belarus' opposition.

Biegun "assured me that he, as a person, and the American people, will do their best to support us and to help us in this situation," Tikhanovskaya said commenting on a meeting with Biegun.

She called their conversation "wonderful and kind."

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said in an interview that no one should interfere in the situation in Belarus.

"Our people want to live in a democratic country," Tikhanovskaya said.

"No one country should influence the decision of our people," she said.

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also met with Biegun. Lavrov pointed out to the US assistant secretary of state that forces from abroad were trying to provoke violence in Belarus to cause an appropriate reaction by law enforcement agencies, and called the situation dangerous. The Russian Foreign Ministry also warned the US and the EU against any form of interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, including calls for anti-government demonstrations.

After an official loss in the presidential elections in Belarus, Tikhanovskaya left for Lithuania. On Monday, she met with Biegun and announced her readiness to resolve the political crisis in the republic through a dialogue on the peaceful transfer of power and openness to mediation by international organizations.

Earlier, Lavrov, at a meeting with Biegun in Moscow, said attempts of sanctions and political pressure on Minsk were inadmissible.

On 9 August, incumbent leader Alexander Lukashenko won the presidential elections in Belarus for the sixth time - according to the Central Election Commission, he gained 80.1 percent of the vote. The opposition claims that Tikhanovskaya, not Lukashenko, won the election.

Mass opposition protests began across Belarus after the presidential elections. In the first days, the rallies were crushed by law enforcement officers: tear gas, water cannons, stun grenades and rubber bullets were used against the protesters who did not agree with the election results.

Then the law enforcement agencies stopped dispersing the rallies and using force. In line with official data, over 6,700 people were detained in the first days. According to the Interior Ministry, hundreds of people were injured during the riots, including more than 120 law enforcement officers. Three protesters have died.

The Beidaihe ritual was established by none other than Great Helmsman Mao, who loved the town where, not by accident, Emperor Qin, the unifier of China in the 3rd century B.C., kept a palace.

2020 being, so far, a notorious Year of Living Dangerously, it’s no surprise that in the end Beidaihe was nowhere to be seen. Yet Beidaihe’s invisibility does not mean it did not happen.

Exhibit 1 was the fact that Premier Li Keqiang simply disappeared from public view for nearly two weeks – after President Xi chaired a crucial Politburo gathering in late July where what was laid out was no less than China’s whole development strategy for the next 15 years.

Li Keqiang resurfaced by chairing a special session of the all-powerful State Council, just as the CCP’s top ideologue, Wang Huning – who happens to be number 5 in the Politburo – showed up as the special guest at a meeting of the All China Youth Federation.

What’s even more intriguing is that side by side with Wang, one would find Ding Xuexiang, none other than President Xi’s chief of staff, as well as three other Politburo members.

In this “now you see them, now you don’t” variation, the fact that they all showed up in unison after an absence of nearly two weeks led sharp Chinese observers to conclude that Beidaihe in fact had taken place. Even if no visible signs of political action by the seaside had been detected. The semi-official spin is that no get-together happened at Beidaihe because of Covid-19.

Yet it’s Exhibit 2 that may clinch the deal for good. The by now famous end of July Politburo meeting chaired by Xi in fact sealed the Central Committee plenary session in October.

Recipients included news operations like the BBC, NBC, Al Jazeera, ProPublica, National Journal, The Guardian, Univision, Medium, the Financial Times, The Atlantic, the Texas Tribune, Gannett, Washington Monthly, Le Monde, and the Center for Investigative Reporting; charitable organizations affiliated with news outlets, like BBC Media Action and the New York Times’ Neediest Cases Fund; media companies such as Participant, whose documentary Waiting for “Superman” supports Gates’s agenda on charter schools; journalistic organizations such as the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the National Press Foundation, and the International Center for Journalists; and a variety of other groups creating news content or working on journalism, such as the Leo Burnett Company, an ad agency that Gates commissioned to create a “news site” to promote the success of aid groups. In some cases, recipients say they distributed part of the funding as subgrants to other journalistic organizations—which makes it difficult to see the full picture of Gates’s funding into the fourth estate.

The foundation even helped fund a 2016 report from the American Press Institute that was used to develop guidelines on how newsrooms can maintain editorial independence from philanthropic funders. A top-level finding: “There is little evidence that funders insist on or have any editor

l review.” Notably, the study’s underlying survey data showed that nearly a third of funders reported having seen at least some content they funded before publication.

The signing was done during the first visit of Roman Catholic religious leader Pope Francis to the Muslim leader in the Arabian Peninsula.

According to the Bible experts, the meeting and agreement of the two religious leaders marks the Last Days prophecy to be fulfilled soon as the Holy Scripture states about the Last Days scenario of the one-world religious order which is now gradually taking place (Revelation 13).

The historic meeting of the Roman church leader to the Muslim world with the agreement stipulated in document fully encapsulated its significant of “transcendental world peace” is of course palatable to all, yet the “Signs of the Last Days” prophecies are also happening. Citizens in Kenosha, Wisconsin have taken it upon themselves to protect local businesses amid ongoing riots and unrest, with armed vigilantes seen taking to rooftops and storefronts to ward off looting and vandalism.

Kenosha saw its third consecutive night of disorder on Tuesday, sparked after the police shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake, a black man, during a domestic ordeal over the weekend. Protests hours after the incident soon boiled into riots, seeing looters ransack countless businesses on Monday, while arsonists ignited some 37 fires.

The chaos in the city has yet to reach the levels seen the night prior, with armed citizens taking up positions around the city, including on rooftops, to protect local businesses.

A number of protesters also appeared to be armed in videos that made the rounds online. One livestream captured a shooting in which a young man was said to have been hit in the chest. He was seen being loaded into a car which soon fled the scene, but his current status, and the extent of his injuries, remain unclear. A second person was also reportedly hit in the incident, but it is unknown whether either were affiliated with the protests or merely bystanders...

Satellite antenna builder Kymeta announced Tuesday it closed a significant new round of fundraising led by Bill Gates, as the start-up looks to increase manufacturing and sales of its mobile communications product.

“At the end of the day, the problem that our customers want to solve is highly reliable broadband service,” Executive Chairman Doug Hutcheson told CNBC.

Kymeta raised $85.2 million in this latest round, including $78.5 million from Gates. The company has now raised about $300 million since its founding in 2012, including investments from Lux Capital, Intelsat and Liberty Global.

The company’s core product is its “electronically steered” flat satellite antenna, built to replace the dish technology that track moving satellites but are also capable of connecting with cellular networks. It looks to fill a gap in connecting satellite networks to the ground, as Kymeta says other antenna aren’t durable enough to support mobility.

Kymeta’s latest antenna is the u8 terminal, which it is beginning a beta trial for a launch to market by year-end. Hutcheson described the u8 terminal as a “transformational” product for the communications industry. He says it is the only one of its kind and can connect with a wide variety of satellites — from the likes of ViaSat’s in the distant geosynchronous orbit to the much closer and smaller SpaceX Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit.

“The technology works to provide satellite communications with no moving parts because of the flat panel and it is very robust. It could take hundreds of G’s of force, if a vehicle rolled over, or take extreme conditions and just keep working,” Hutcheson said.

Kymeta’s two target industries are defense and first responders, with the former making up all the customers participating in its beta testing program. The company declined to disclose further specifics on the customers, citing confidential agreements with the Department of Defense.

The Redmond, Washington-based company earlier this month acquired Lepton Global Solutions, a satellite communications network that Kymeta says will further improve the connectivity of its service. Kymeta has nearly 200 employees and expects that headcount to steadily grow in the next year.

Gates invested in Kymeta in 2016. Hutcheson described him as a “patient investor.”

“I think Bill believes that we have the right technology that that has been developed now to the point where it is ready to change how people think and use this type of communications,” Hutcheson said.

Billionaire philanthropists Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote have hailed the declaration of Nigeria by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as being polio-free.

The global health body on Tuesday certified Nigeria and the rest of Africa polio-free.

The WHO Africa Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) said the major milestone was achieved four years after the last recorded cases of wild polio in the country.

In a tweet, Gates said that the remarkable achievement was a step closer to global polio eradication.

“Today, we move one step closer toward a world without polio. This is an incredible milestone that’s worth celebrating. It is also an important reminder of what can be accomplished when we work together toward a common goal,” he wrote on his Twitter handle @BillGates.

In his remarks, Africa’s richest man, Dangote, said that the polio-free Africa was an indication that the fight to end polio globally was possible.

“Today we celebrate a polio-free Africa, the result of decades of vaccination, hard work, collaboration. Tomorrow we get back to work, to ensure wild polio does not come back. Together, we all can #EndPolio globally,” he tweeted.

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, tweeted via his official Twitter account @antonioguterres, that the declaration filled him with optimism that a lot could be achieved through global efforts.

“Africa has been declared free of polio today.

“This historic milestone fills me with hope and optimism.

“We can achieve so much when we work together as a global community.”

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Board Chair, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), felicitated with President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessors.

“A great day for #Nigeria and #Africa. Nigeria receives polio-free Certificate from

@WHO.

“ Africa declared #PolioFree. Congratulations Nigerians on this great achievement. Congrats to President @MBuhari, President @GEJonathan, President Obasanjo, PHDA, @Gavi, @gatesfoundation,” she tweeted via @NOIweala

A virologist at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Dr Olubusuyi Adewumi, who lauded the historic achievement, said that Africa had indeed successfully eradicated the wild polio virus.

Adewumi said that while the wild polio virus was responsible for most infections, there was also the rare form called vaccine-derived polio virus.

“Today marks the end of any circulation of wild type poliovirus in Nigeria and all of Africa.

Amazon stock’s surge during the coronavirus pandemic is making its boss Jeff Bezos richer every week. He is now closer than ever to the historic title of first person to be worth $200 billion.

Amazon stock gained about 1.2 percent to close at $3,346 per share on Tuesday, and continued to climb higher after hours. The rally pushed Bezos’ fortune higher again – he gained around $2.2 billion from the 11 percent stake he owns, and his net worth now stands at a record $199.7 billion, according to Forbes’ calculations.

Already the richest man on the planet, Bezos has been breaking his own records almost every week in recent months. Last week, he had around $2 billion less in his pocket, but it was still the highest net worth Forbes had seen since it started tracking billionaires around four decades ago.

The coronavirus outbreak has become somewhat of golden age for tech and e-commerce giants, which have profited as people are stuck at home and have to turn to online retailers for deliveries of essentials. Amazon recently presented blowout second-quarter results, showing that the company earned almost $89 billion over that period.

Bezos is not the only billionaire that has seen his fortune skyrocket during the pandemic. According to a recent study by the US’ Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), the 12 top richest Americans – including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, and Elon Musk – have seen their combined wealth jump by 40 percent to reach more than $1 trillion.

Australia 'hurt the feelings' of China with calls for coronavirus investigation, senior diplomat says

One of China's most senior diplomats has refused to say the coronavirus pandemic originated in Wuhan, while accusing the Australian Government of damaging the relationship between the two countries with calls for an independent investigation into the virus.

Wang Xining, the deputy head of mission at China's embassy in Australia, gave a rare address at the National Press Club in Canberra, where he said Australia's focus on determining the origins of the virus had damaged international relations.

"It hurts the feelings of the Chinese people," he said.

"All of a sudden, they heard this shocking news of a proposal coming from Australia, which is supposed to be a good friend of China."

Australia was one of the first countries to push for an international investigation into the origins of the virus.

The World Health Assembly, the governing body of the World Health Organization, eventually adopted a European Union resolution, co-sponsored by both Australia and China, calling for a "comprehensive, independent and impartial" investigation.

But Mr Wang said China believed Australia's early push was unfair, because it had been advanced on the presumption that Wuhan was the source of the virus.

"We believe this proposal was targeted against China alone, because during that time Australian ministers claimed that the virus originated from Wuhan, from China, and they did not pinpoint any other places as a possible source," he said.

"We don't think it was fair."

Asked to clarify, Mr Wang acknowledged the Chinese city was the first place to record a cluster of the virus, but withstood suggestions that meant the virus came from Wuhan.

"I think it's up to the scientists to find out the origin and also how it's been dealt with by different governments," he said.

In April, China's ambassador Cheng Jingye warned that if Australia pressed ahead with calls for an international inquiry into COVID-19, Chinese people might boycott Australian wine and beef.

Last week China announced an investigation into whether Australia has been unfairly dumping wine in the Chinese market.

China has already imposed restrictions on Australian barley, and on beef from four major abattoirs, as relations between the two countries have cooled.

The senior diplomat had the chance to sample such goods on Wednesday, with the National Press Club's menu featuring ingredients targeted in the trade dispute.

On Tuesday, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg revealed he did not believe the $600 million sale of Lion Dairy and Drinks to China's Mengniu Dairy was in the national interest, after the deal was abandoned.

A Chinese textbook used in Victorian schools has been recalled after being deemed "misleading" by experts for showing a controversial map of China 'owning' 90 per cent of the South China Sea.

The Senior Chinese Course: Chinese Language, Culture and Society textbook, which was being used in VCE classes at 11 schools in Victoria, was believed to promote pro-Beijing propaganda.

A total of 633 copies of the book have sold in Australia.

"It is highly misleading to portray the nine-dash line in an educational textbook as a legitimate map of China and the region," Professor Rory Medcalf, the head of the Australian National University's national security college, told The Guardian.

"For it to appear in a textbook in Australia puts it at odds not only with the sensitivities of much of the region, but also with international law and Australian government policy."

There were also two pages published in the book which were called the 'Chinese Dream', which Professor Medcalf described as being "straight out of the party playbook".

The authors of the textbook, Jixing Xu and Wei Ha, are both in charge of Chinese at two prestigious Melbourne private schools, Scotch College and Camberwell Grammar.

They claimed the book was "never intended to take a political stance", with the publisher including the map.

Publisher Cengage apologised for the "carelessness" map, insisting the nine-dash line was an "editorial oversight".

CNN anchor Jake Tapper suggested on Tuesday that Republicans would be "rioting" if Democrats attempted similar "norm-busting" tactics at their own convention.

There were plenty of firsts at the Republican National Convention from President Trump's pardon of felon-turned-activist Jon Ponder, his overseeing a naturalization ceremony at the White House, to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's address from Jerusalem.

Minutes before the convention began, Tapper slammed the "erosions of norms and standards."

"There was an expectation in this country that secretaries of state, a tradition, secretaries of state will not speak at conventions," Tapper told his colleague Wolf Blitzer. "I cannot imagine the outcry if Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had spoken at the Democratic Convention in 2012."

He continued, "We're also going to have the president issuing a pardon during a political convention. I mean, the individual no doubt deserves a pardon. He was pardoned earlier this year by the state of Nevada. The idea that this would be done as part of a political convention- it's just a completely norm-eroding, norm-busting tradition. And I think we're going to see a lot of that during this convention. And I just can't even imagine what Republicans on Capitol Hill would be doing if Democrats were doing these types of activities during a convention, Wolf. They'd be rioting, frankly."

Other CNN personalities were outspoken with condemnation of the RNC. CNN political analyst Joe Lockhart attacked former Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann following the network settling a $250 million defamation lawsuit, calling the Kentucky teen a "snot nose entitled kid" on Twitter.

CNN analyst Brian Karem trashed the address given by First Lady Melania Trump, tweeting she "makes me want to vomit."

"The sequence “CTCCCTTTGTTGTGTTGT” is an 18-character primer sequence found in the WHO coronavirus PCR testing protocol document.

The primer sequences are what get amplified by the PCR process in order to be detected and designated a “positive” test result. It just so happens this exact same 18-character sequence, verbatim, is also found on Homo sapiens chromosome 8! As far as I can tell, this means that the WHO test kits should find a positive result in all humans. Can anyone explain this otherwise?

In other words, those who began to notice the peculiarity of the tests for the virus, and how they might be used to (1) collect human DNA, and (2) possibly covertly insert things into people's nasal cavity, may have had a point, and then some.

Again, assuming this to be true, and given the vast amount of "positive" tests, are we really witnessing "false positives" that are, in fact, genuine in the sense that the patient is being shown to be human? And is this why there is such an emphasis on testing everyone?

Years ago, at the Secret Space Program conference of 2015 in Bastrop Texas, I offered the idea that the sudden rise of DNA testing corporations that will, through genetics, "show your ancestral history" might be a covert way of searching for people that look fully homo sapiens sapiens, but aren't.

The only way to determine whether or not such a population exists among us ala the old late 1960's science-fiction TV show, The Invaders, would be to test for genetics. So why put a primer for a virus into a virus test that, essentially, is common to all humans, and then insist that everyone get tested? It might be exactly what one might do in order to search for such a population. This isn't to say that the virus is not real, and that positive tests are ipso facto suspicious. It is to suggest that maybe, under the guise of the planscamdemic, they're really looking for something, or rather, someone else. And it might be that this is an underlying reason why the numbers "cases" as a percentage of the population appears to be so high, while actual deaths as a percentage of population appears to be so low.

If that sounds already off-the-end-of-the-speculation-twig, it is to be sure. But there's an even worse implication, and this is where is gets completely crazy, because it might mean "testing negative" could be interpreted by the wilder and crazier sort, as testing not negative for the virus, but negative for humanity. In this regard, my mention of the old The Invaders TV series was not accidental, but to a purpose.

The series, for those who do not know, starred actor Roy Thinnes, who accidentally discovers the "aliens among us", who looks, walk, talk, and in all but very minor respects resemble humans, as they slowly take over the world through a process of infiltration. Thinnes' character - "architect David Vincent", an apt name for a small human trying to triumph over the covert "alien Goliath" - then spends the series trying to collect evidence and names of other witnesses to persuade the government to take action. Interestingly enough, Chris Carter, producer of the later aliens-among-us series, The X Files, in a master-stroke of TV esoterica had Thinnes star in a few episodes in the reverse role, playing one of those aliens-among-us.

But in any case, in the original Invaders series, Thinnes' character shows up at the trial of a friend being accused of murdering a man, who it turns out, was one of those aliens-in-disguise, leading to the premise of "the alien defense" as the defense team, at Thinnes' encouragement, argues that the murder was not murder because a human being had not been killed, neatly sidestepping the moral issue of how it is not murder when a thinking, rational intelligence being like us in all respects except DNA is dead at someone else's hand.

Missing Fort Hood soldier Elder Fernandes' body found in Texas, police say

The body of Sgt. Elder Fernandes, a Massachusetts native who went missing from the U.S. Army’s Fort Hood base in Texas more than a week ago, was found Tuesday evening, police said.

“Our worst nightmare has happened,” the family’s attorney, Natalie Khawam, said in a statement. “One of our own, Sergeant Elder Fernandes has been found dead today. We are sickened by this tragedy that has happened one too many times. We are heartbroken for Elder Fernandes’s family.”

Khawam said Army police told family members about the discovery late Tuesday night.

Fernandes’ backpack was with him, Khawam said, and police found the 23-year-old man’s driver’s license inside.

The Temple Police Department said it responded to a medical call along railroad tracks about 28 miles from the Fort Hood base, at about 5:36 p.m. Tuesday after a person reported seeing a man near the tracks.

“Upon officers’ arrival, it was determined that the subject had been deceased for some period of time,” the department said in its statement.

Identification found at the scene indicates the deceased victim is Fernandes, but police say no forensic confirmation has been made yet.

Police say there does not appear to be any foul play involved in Fernandes’ death at this time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fernandes family during this challenging time,” Temple Police Chief Shawn Reynolds said.

Fernandes, 23, a 2015 graduate of Brockton High School and a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, was last seen by members of his unit on Aug. 17 at a residence in Killeen, Texas.

When Fernandes didn’t report to work the next day, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command opened an investigation and commenced a search. Fernandes’ mother, brother and aunt flew to Texas to assist in the search.

The Army said “information gathered from fellow soldiers so far” led officials to believe Fernandes “may have left Fort Hood on his own accord.”

But family members have disputed that.

“We NEVER said or believe that Fernandes left on his own without saying anything to the family,” Isabel Fernandes wrote in a Sunday night Facebook post.

Khawam is calling for a Congressional investigation of Fort Hood in the wake of several disappearances of soldiers, including at least two that involved foul play.

“We will not stop until we find out what happened to Elder,” Khawam said in her statement. “We demand a Congressional Investigation of Ft. Hood. We must protect our soldiers! We demand Justice for Elder!”

The calls for an investigation come as Fernandes is the third Fort Hood soldier to go missing within the last year.

Spc. Vanessa Guillen, 20, went missing from Fort Hood in April. Her body was found in July. A fellow soldier, Aaron David Robinson, suspected in Guillen’s disappearance, killed himself, Army officials have said.

Pfc. Gregory Morales, 24, was reported missing from the base Aug. 20, 2019. His remains were found June 21 in a field in Killeen, near Fort Hood. Foul play is suspected in his death, which remains under investigation.

Khawam told The Enterprise Tuesday that the Fernandes family was speaking with the office of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

“We’d like to have her get involved and demand a congressional investigation of Fort Hood and how they have handled missing persons and deaths on the bases, especially when it comes to keeping military families in the dark,” Khawam said. “They have continuously evaded questions. We don’t want the Army investigating itself.”

Officials had said there was an “open investigation of abusive sexual contact” involving Elder Fernandes, and that he had been transferred to another unit after reporting sexual abuse.

“The unit sexual assault response coordinator has been working closely with Sgt. Fernandes, ensuring he was aware of all his reporting, care, and victim advocacy options,” said Fort Hood public affairs officer Lt. Col. Chris Brautigam.

Brautigam said Fernandes had been transferred “to ensure he received the proper care and ensure there were no opportunities for reprisals.”

Former BoE Governor Carney joins asset manager Brookfield

Former Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has joined asset management company Brookfield as a vice chair and head of environmental, social and governance (ESG) investment, his first major business role since leaving the central bank. “Mark will expand on Brookfield’s existing strengths in ESG investing with the development of a group of funds that will work to combine positive social and environmental outcomes with strong risk-adjusted returns for investors,” the company said in a statement.

Carney is also the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, and took a keen interest in environmental issues while at the BoE.

At 700 AM CDT (1200 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Laura was located

near latitude 26.4 North, longitude 91.4 West. Laura is moving

toward the northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h) and this general motion

should continue today, followed by a north-northwestward motion

tonight. On the forecast track, Laura should approach the Upper

Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts this evening and move inland

near those areas tonight or Thursday morning.

Data from NOAA and Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate

that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 115 mph (185

km/h) with higher gusts. Laura is a dangerous category 3 hurricane

on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, and is forecast to continue

strengthening into a category 4 hurricane later today. Rapid

weakening is expected after Laura makes landfall.

Laura is a large hurricane. Hurricane-force winds extend outward

up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center and tropical-storm- force

winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km). Buoy 42395, located

just east of Laura's eye, recently reported a sustained wind of 74

mph (119 km/h) and a wind gust of 107 mph (172 km/h) and a wave

height of 37 feet (11 meters).

What is Gilead’s role in the war on Hydroxychloroquine?

Is Gilead, the maker of Remdesivir, waging war on HCQ (hydroxychloroquine)? Attacks on the drug have been continuous ever since Dr. Didier Raoult used this quinine derivative to save the lives of COVID-19 patients last March. The first attempt to discredit HCQ was a hastily compiled Veterans Administration hospital system study last April. Notably, one of the study’s authors had in the past received numerous grants from Gilead, with one grant in 2018 totaling nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

After deep flaws in the VA study were exposed, Surgisphere came to the rescue in May with a “15,000 patient” megastudy allegedly compiled from hospitals all over the world. This strategy succeeded: Following its publication in the Lancet and the NEJM, all outpatient use of HCQ was severely restricted in the U.S., Australia, and most of Europe.

When the Surgisphere scam was exposed, both articles were quietly retracted and the editor-in-chief of the Lancet tried to wash his hands of this embarrassing incident by denouncing Surgisphere’s “monumental fraud.” However only a few days earlier, Lancet editors played a major role in persuading WHO to suspend all trials for HCQ. Who put them up to it?

The study’s main author, Mandeep Mehra, also apologized for his reliance on a third party for the data. He may not have known the data was fabricated, but the hospital he directed was conducting two trials for Remdesivir. Was he under pressure from his sponsors?

These are the stakes: A five-day treatment with Remdesivir costs around $3,000. A five-day supply of generic HCQ costs around $10. Drug companies have every right to recoup their cost of research and development, but lobbying to suppress access to a lifesaving treatment that is both cheaper and more effective is a crime against humanity.

Progressives mistakenly believe that socialized medicine protects patients from the abuses of big pharma, but the first nation to severely restrict access to HCQ was France. This policy compelled Dr. Raoult to testify against Gilead’s disproportionate leverage over the medical community during a meeting of the French National Assembly last June.

Notably in the U.S., a third of the FDA’s budget comes from pharmaceutical user fees, and according to the NIH’s website, eight out of 55 members of the panel responsible for COVID-19 treatment guidelines are currently affiliated with Gilead. These government ties to Gilead more than triple when you include panel members with past associations.

Paradoxically, most opposition to HCQ in the U.S. comes from the left, but conservatives who know the ways of crony capitalism regard this as par for the course. After all, big pharma has given more to Democrats ever since the passage of Obamacare and up to now, Gilead employees donated three times more to the Biden campaign.

Unmasked Protesters Push Past Police Into Idaho Lawmakers' Session

In Boise, the first day of Idaho's special legislative session erupted into chaos before it began. Dozens of unmasked protesters, some of them armed, shoved their way past state troopers to pack the gallery overlooking the state's House of Representatives.

The clash was a manifestation of the anger and frustration from a vocal minority of far-right Idahoans that has been compounding over the last several months as the state has navigated its reopening amid the pandemic.

To enforce social distancing, the gallery area above the House chamber was restricted with limited seating. But after the confrontation with state troopers, which resulted in the shattering of a glass door, Republican House Speaker Scott Bedke relented and allowed protesters to fill every seat.

The response stands in stark contrast to 2014 when dozens of advocates pressuring lawmakers to pass LGBTQ protections were arrested for standing silently in a hallway, blocking access to the Idaho Senate chamber.

On Monday, an Idaho State Police spokeswoman, Lynn Hightower, said she wasn't aware of any pending charges against protesters. The following day she released a statement saying that "Idaho State Police personnel determined they could not have made arrests on the spot without elevating the potential for violence," and that an investigation was ongoing into any criminal behavior "that may have occurred."

Right now, Idaho has one of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases per capita, especially in Ada County, which includes the capital, Boise, according to the White House.

"I want to always try to avoid violence," Bedke later told The Associated Press. "My initial reaction, of course, was to clear the fourth floor. But we had room for at least some more."

He said he was more disappointed than surprised at the violence.

"I think we're better than that. I think that Idahoans expect more out of their citizens."

Protesters later made their way into committee rooms, defaced paper signs meant to leave one empty seat between those in the audience and laughed at one Democratic state lawmaker who refused to participate in the hearing because of the lack of social distancing.

The group of protesters included supporters of a far-right militia and anti-vaccine advocates who were at the Idaho Capitol to demand an end to the current state of emergency and blast a proposal that would limit civil liability for businesses, schools and governments.

The bill would also open up those entities to litigation if they don't follow laws and ordinances, including mask mandates issued by public health districts.

"The insanity of this bill is beyond me," said Boise resident Pam Hemphill, during a committee hearing Monday afternoon. "We don't stop our lives, suspend our civil rights and panic each year for the flu."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say more than 176,000 Americans have died due the coronavirus in the first eight months of 2020, compared with an estimated 24,000 to 62,000 people who died last flu season.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, called the legislature into special session last week to take up civil liability issues as well as election concerns from county clerks. They want to be able to count the massive influx of absentee ballots earlier than they can now under state law and have the option to consolidate polling locations to deal with an extreme shortage of poll workers.

The special session is also the result of months of intense pressure and blowback from Little's own party.

One state lawmaker referred to the governor as "Little Hitler" after he ordered the shutdown of nonessential businesses in late March. His lieutenant governor, Janice McGeachin, who is elected separately and has ties to militia groups, has openly challenged Little's reopening push by visiting businesses that flouted those timelines and welcomed customers back earlier than allowed.

And legislators pressured Little to relinquish control over the state's coronavirus response to regional public health districts, even threatening to come after his executive authority in the future if he didn't comply.

Still, most Idahoans appear to stand by Little. An effort to recall the governor over the summer failed, and three-quarters of registered Idaho voters polled in May supported his handling of the pandemic.

State senators overwhelmingly passed two bills related to elections laws Monday, which still need approval from the House. Lawmakers will continue to debate civil liability issues this week.

Here’s the bottom line:

Central banks have a monopoly on central bank money. Gold is the competitor to central bank money and most central banks would prefer to ignore gold. Yet, central banks in the aggregate are net buyers of gold.

In effect, central banks are signaling through their actions that they are losing confidence in their own money and their money monopoly. They’re getting ready for the day when confidence in central bank money will collapse across the board. In that world, gold will be the only form of money anyone wants.

As confidence in the dollar is eroded due to Fed money printing and congressional super-deficits, investors will gradually look for alternative stores of wealth, including gold.

These trends begin slowly and then gather momentum. As the dollar price of gold really begins to soar, investors will take notice. Even more people will invest in gold, driving the price still higher.

Investors like to say that the price of gold is going up. But what is really happening is that the value of the dollar is going down (it takes more dollars to buy the same amount of gold).

This is the real inflation and the real dollar collapse most investors miss at the early stages.

Eventually, confidence in the dollar will be lost completely, central bankers will need to restore confidence, and they’ll turn to some type of gold standard to do so.

We’re a long way from that point right now.

A bipartisan pair of congressmen has introduced a resolution condemning the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory, denouncing the psy-op as a “dangerous, anti-Semitic, conspiracy-mongering cult.” QAnon fans took this as encouragement.

The resolution “condemning QAnon and rejecting the conspiracy theories it promotes” was introduced on Tuesday by New Jersey Democrat Tom Malinowski and Virginia Republican Denver Riggleman, citing ‘experts’ from the FBI to the Anti-Defamation League to claim QAnon adherents are anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists threatening the American way of life.

The resolution “condemns QAnon and rejects the conspiracy theories it promotes” and urges the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to “strengthen their focus on preventing violence, threats, harassment, and other criminal activity by extremists motivated by fringe political conspiracy theories.”

On top of all that, it “urges all Americans, regardless of our beliefs or partisan affiliations, to seek information from authoritative sources, and to engage in political debate from a common factual foundation.” The resolution comes on the heels of dozens of mainstream media articles calling for QAnon-related content to be censored by social media.

Echoing their hero President Donald Trump, however, QAnon adherents have argued the American media establishment is just fake news, accusing all so-called “fact-checkers” of being controlled by the likes of billionaire currency speculator George Soros, a notorious funder of liberal causes.

Pharmaceutical company Bayer on Thursday said it will pay roughly $1.6 billion to settle approximately 90% of U.S. claims involving its Essure contraceptive device that injured thousands of women.

Around 39,000 women have claimed in lawsuits that the metal coil device, which is inserted into the fallopian tubes to permanently block its reproductive functions, could pierce the tubes and migrate to other parts of the body.

Bayer said it stands by Essure's safety and efficacy and that the company was settling the lawsuit in order to focus on women's health "without the distractions" of the litigation.

27 former Republican members of Congress announce they’ll support Joe Biden over Trump

A group of more than two dozen former Republican members of Congress announced their support for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Monday, hours before the start of the Republican National Convention.

The Biden campaign said in a statement that the 27 former GOP lawmakers believe President Donald Trump’s “failures” in office “have superseded partisanship.”

“In a strong rebuke to the current administration, these former members of Congress cited Trump’s corruption, destruction of democracy, blatant disregard for moral decency, and urgent need to get the country back on course as a reason why they support Biden,” the statement said.

Three former senators are included in the group: Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona, Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire and John Warner of Virginia. President Donald Trump’s approval rating has risen in six swing states over the last two weeks as voter concerns about the coronavirus have waned, a new poll shows.

While the boost still leaves Trump trailing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden — Biden is leading Trump 49 percent to 46 percent across the six states — a new CNBC/Change Research poll shows that 48 percent of voters in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin approve of the job Trump is doing and 52 percent disapprove, an improvement for the president over the 46 percent who approved and 54 percent who disapproved two weeks prior.

Sixty-six percent of likely voters in the states said they have serious concerns about the coronavirus, down three percentage points from a poll taken two weeks ago. Additionally, while 49 percent of respondents said they had “very serious” concerns about the coronavirus in that previous poll, that number has dropped to 45 percent.

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Laura was located

near latitude 27.0 North, longitude 92.0 West. Laura is moving

toward the northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h). A gradual turn toward

the north-northwestward and north is expected later today and

tonight. On the forecast track, Laura will approach the Upper

Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts this evening and move inland

within that area tonight. The center of Laura is forecast to move

over northwestern Louisiana tomorrow, across Arkansas Thursday

night, and over the mid-Mississippi Valley on Friday.

Data from NOAA and Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate

that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 125 mph

(205 km/h) with higher gusts. Laura is a category 3 hurricane on

the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional strengthening

in expected and ==Laura is forecast to become a category 4 hurricane

this afternoon.== Rapid weakening is expected after Laura makes

landfall.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from

the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175

miles (280 km).

The latest minimum central pressure estimated from reconnaissance

aircraft data is 956 mb (28.23 inches).

CDC Quietly Changes Testing Guidelines To Exclude People With No Symptoms

New COVID-19 testing guidelines released this week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that people without symptoms do not need to be tested even if they have been in close contact with someone who tested positive, quietly reversing previous guidance that recommended testing “for all close contacts of confirmed or probable COVID-19 patients.”

The agency’s revised guidelines go against public health experts’ consensus that people with COVID-19 tend to be most contagious before they begin to show symptoms, as well as the fact that some people will never show symptoms at all but can still spread the virus. That is why experts have recommended widespread testing as a crucial element in containing the disease.

The new guidelines state that pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic people “do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or State or local public health officials recommend you take one.” This applies even to people who have been in close contact with someone infected with COVID-19 — which the agency defines as within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes — but are not showing symptoms, and those “in a high COVID-19 transmission area and have attended a public or private gathering of more than 10 people (without widespread mask wearing or physical distancing).”

Yet further down in the guidelines, the agency still stresses that “it is important to realize that you can be infected and spread the virus but feel well and have no symptoms.”

It’s unclear what prompted the revision. In many states, officials have reported testing delays and backlogs. But a Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson told The New York Times Tuesday that the altered guidelines were not due to testing shortages, but “to reflect current evidence and the best public health interventions.”
