Facebook Video of Assault, Found by Victim's Mother, Breaks Open Case

The teenager woke up after a night of partying at a Providence, Rhode Island, house to find herself naked in a shower, surrounded by men who were laughing and taking pictures, the police said.

She went to the police almost immediately, but the case stalled with little to go on beyond the girl’s painful memories from that night in December. Then, in March, the girl’s mother found a video of her daughter being sexually assaulted that one of the perpetrators had posted on Facebook.

The mother took out her phone, recorded the video on her computer screen and sent the recording to the police.

“That’s when the investigation really heated up,” Maj. David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department said in an interview Wednesday. “We were able to see who was there. We were able to see faces. We were able to see the actual act, of first-degree sexual assault.”

On Wednesday, the police said the mother’s discovery of the Facebook video helped them charge eight men with sexually assaulting the 16-year-old girl after she lost consciousness at the house party Dec. 20, 2019.

Col. Hugh Clements Jr., chief of the Providence police, said the assault was one of the worst he could recall in his 35 years with the department.

“The incident is horrifying, devastating, disturbing on so many levels to this young girl, to her family and to this community,” Clements said at a news conference.

He said the teenager had been offered counseling, housing and other services, and he thanked her and her family for coming forward to report the crime. Not only had she helped identify the men who assaulted her, he said, but she also faced the possibility of testifying in court and being sharply questioned by defense lawyers.

“I commend her bravery, her courage and her family for sticking by her,” the chief said.

“I give her a lot of credit,” he added.

The police said six men — Keith Erving Colon, 24; Jose Vargas, 18; Carlos Chacon, 19; Malcolm Baptista, 18; Luis A. Cabrera, 18; and Luis Luna, 19 — were arrested last week and charged with assault with intent to commit sexual assault and conspiracy.

A seventh man, Richard Tarell Chester, 19, was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault, the police said. The eighth, Carlos D. Vasquez, was being sought Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to commit sexual assault and conspiracy.

Lawyers for several of the men did not immediately respond to messages Wednesday. Chad F. Bank, a lawyer for Luna, and Nicholas Obolensky, a lawyer for Cabrera, declined to comment.

The teenager had been invited to the party by two boys she knew, Lapatin said. She remembered drinking and smoking marijuana and then not feeling well, so she went to a bedroom to lie down, he said. That’s when someone forced her to drink more alcohol, causing her to lose consciousness, she later told the police.

When she awoke, she was naked in the shower, surrounded by eight to 15 men, Lapatin said.

The teenager left the party and went to the hospital with pain in her genital area, Lapatin said. She then gave a full statement to the police, he said.

“She was able to give us some names of who was there,” he said, “but we didn’t have the evidence right then to start charging people.”

The investigation accelerated, he said, when someone told the girl’s mother about the video of the assault on Facebook.

Detectives recognized several of the men’s faces and nicknames in the video, he said, and were able to track them down.

The sharing of the video on Facebook suggests the perpetrators were “proud of what they had done and wanted to display this for others to see — and that in itself is disturbing,” said Vanessa Volz, the executive director of Sojourner House, in Providence, which provides emergency housing, counseling and other services to victims of sexual violence and their families.

“It’s obviously horrific and completely unacceptable, and I think very indicative of how we still are living in a rape culture,” Volz said.

Many of those who seek help at Sojourner House have been harassed, tracked or shamed online and on social media, Volz said.

“There’s a dehumanization element with the technology we have access to,” she said. “It’s so easy. You videotape something, you copy it, you send it. It happens so instantaneously. You can do all that in less than a minute.”

She said the case reinforced the need to change deep-seated cultural attitudes about how people treat each other. “And until that changes,” she said, “we’re going to continue to see these types of incidents.”

The International Energy Group Burisma started drilling another directional well (No. 3) with the target depth of 6200 m at the Vodyanivske field in Kharkiv region. The Group will be using a SK 3000 rig from Service King Manufacturing.

“From the middle of February 2019, we have gone as deep as 3,000 meters. Over the next five months, we are hoping to obtain positive results. It won’t be our deepest well this year, however. In March, we started drilling in the Kubashivska area. Its projected depth is 6,250 m. All wells will be drilled through a cement-free method using sludge dewatering technology and a special dryer. This method corresonds to best international environmental standards, ” says Burisma Group CEO Taras Burdeyniy.

At the same time, preliminary work and site development are underway. Once finished, the Group will start drilling 4 more wells in the Kubashivska area, Rakytnyanske and Proletarske field as well as the Zhuravlyna structure of the Derkachivsk-Voitenivska area (Kharkiv and Dnipro regions).

“The well at the Niklovitske field has already provided results, but is still under development. We are also finalizing the construction of loops. The Group’s investment plan for 2019 stipulates drilling of 21 new wells. So far we are staying on schedule, ” says Taras Burdeyniy.

The Brazilian pre-salt oil region, first explored in 2006 by Petrobras, is an oil-rich offshore reserve trapped below a 2,000m-thick layer of salt, which itself is located below 2,000m-thick post-salt sediments. In this special timeline feature, Offshore Technology looks at how Brazil’s pre-salt region has been developed and why it has recently attracted more investment from major oil firms.

It was announced on Monday that many of the major oil giants – including Shell, ExxonMobil, and BP – had come out on top in the fifth round auction for acreage in the Santos and Campos basins offshore Brazil. Pre-salt oil reserves in the basins contain 16.4 billion barrels of crude, according to Petrobras, and total production from the region is estimated at almost five billion barrels in 2025 alone.

How was the Brazilian pre-salt region first discovered, and what is the potential for the oil-rich reserve?

2006: Petrobras discovers first pre-salt oil

Brazilian petroleum giant Petrobras first discovered pre-salt oil reserves in the Lula oil field in the Santos Basin in 2006, and drew its first oil from the Jubarte field in the Campos Basin two years later, in 2008. Since then, the pre-salt layer has proven to conceal larger oil reserves, in a series of consecutive discoveries.

At the time, US equity firm Riedel Research founder and president David Riedel described the pre-salt region as “one of the most impressive oil finds globally in terms of scale”.

Petrobras soon found, however, that drilling the pre-salt oil region was exponentially more difficult than exploring post-salt oil reserves. As a result, companies were slow to prioritise exploration efforts.

Brazilian Association of Petroleum Geologists president Marcio Rocha Mello told Offshore Magazine in a 2008 interview: “The [pre-salt] results were satisfactory; with oil fields such as the Badejo, Linguado, and Trilha, allowing the basin to become even more productive. Later, with the discoveries of the super-giant post-salt Tertiary and Upper Cretaceous turbidite systems at shallower burial depths, the pre-salt petroleum system was put aside as low priority.”

However, as the post-salt oil reserves dwindled, the Brazilian oil giant kick-started pre-salt operations.

Stocks dropped Thursday, as Wall Street gave back gains after capping off yet another record-setting session a day earlier. Investors eyed the Labor Department’s weekly jobless claims report, which showed a bigger than expected improvement in new weekly claims under a newly introduced counting system. The Dow slid more than 726 points, or 2.5%, as of 11:20 a.m. ET. The broader market sold off, with the S&P 500 down 3.3% and the Nasdaq down more than 4% as big tech shares including Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Facebook (FB) each sold off. The moves Thursday were a stark reversal from the gains seen at the beginning of this week. Each of the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended the regular session Wednesday at their highest-ever closing levels. The broad rally lifted stocks and sectors that had been underperforming so far during the pandemic, with the utilities, materials and real estate sectors leading advances in the S&P 500 on the day. The Dow spiked above 29,000 for the first time since February and came within 500 points of its all-time record level, before sharply reversing these gains on Thursday.

Note that not everyone used the same terminology. In Brazil they refer to pre-salt oil, in Ukraine they use the term abiogenic oil. The essential thing is that this is oil formed in the earth's crust by chemical reactions and is not related to dead organic lifeforms.

Everybody seems to believe in Hubbert's Peak Oil Theory. Why do you believe in this theory? Within this article I present fairly convincing evidence that Peak Oil is a theory based on a false premise - that oil is a finite resource.

My own layman's view as we all surely believe has always been that oil and gas are both derived through the natural and lengthy decomposition of organic detritus. Therefore I've always believed that oil is a finite resource and that it will eventually run out. But recently - and after much hard searching out of the facts, my view has changed. If the Russian view that oil and gas are continuously formed or replaced from a purely physical/chemical thermodynamic process that continuously regenerates oil from ultra-deep locations(>9,000 metres), then the inference here is that oil may, perhaps, not be a finite resource – and that there is plenty of it.

Oil and Gas Origins - Biogenic or Abiotic ?

Do oil and gas originate from the biological decomposition of organic material (biotic, biogenic) or do they originate simply through a natural physical and chemical thermodynamic process involving just heat and pressure(abiotic, abiogenic)?

It is notable that the whole of Hubbert's Theory of Peak Oil rests completely on the assumption that oil is biogenic in origin. Therefore oil is a finite resource. Simply everyone believes this, because everyone believes that this is a proven fact. I have also read that this Biogenic Theory directly contradicts and offends the Second Law of Thermodynamics. I became suspicious, so I searched all over the internet for substantiative proof – and particularly the research articles in Google Scholar.

Conclusions

In the end, I have to agree that the Russian Abiotic Theory of Oil Formation - backed up by all its evidence, is far more likely to be the true explanation. And there appears to be little or no conclusive evidence to prove the Western Biotic Theory of Oil. But that leaves much unanswered doesn't it? For what reasons then - in light of these facts and conclusions - is the Peak Oil Theory being so heavily touted - a theory that is wholly dependent on the Western Biotic Theory of Oil Formation which - as I see it - is a completely unproven theory? Are Western geologists and scientists really that stupid or unfair or is there an underlying, hidden agenda and media steerage here - by the Big Oil Majors or OPEC - to perhaps discreetly encourage higher oil prices through promotion of a false "scarcity" of this resource by conveniently supporting the Western Biotic Theory of Oil Formation(now disproven and defunct) to so heavily promote Hubbert's Peak Oil Theory?

Mysterious Maltese professor denied making offer to Papadopoulos, new docs show

Joseph Mifsud, the mysterious Maltese professor who ex-FBI Director James Comey referred to as a “Russian agent” in an op-ed, denied any advance knowledge that Russia had dirt on Hillary Clinton and told investigators he never made any offers to George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign strategist, according to newly released FBI documents.

Mifsud, who is considered to be something of an international man of mystery, has studied law and diplomacy in London and Rome and was believed to have had contacts with key Russian officials. He met with Papadopoulos in 2016 at Link Campus University in Rome and then in London.

Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation stated that Mifsud was the person who told Papadopoulos in April 2016 that Russians had “dirt” in the form of emails on Hillary Clinton that could damage her chances of becoming president.

Twitter user Techno Fog posted the FBI’s “302” interview summary on Mifsud and pointed out that the 59-year-old professor told investigators he had “no advance knowledge Russia was in possession of emails from the Democratic National Committee and, therefore, did not make any offers or proffer any information” to Papadopoulos.

The documents stated that the pair — who met for coffee in Britain in 2016 while Papadopoulos was transitioning to the Trump campaign — “spoke about cybersecurity and hacking as a larger issue.”

Mifsud is not the most widely recognized name from the Mueller report, but he has been a major focal point of the probe.

There were unproven theories that Mifsud was a Russian asset or even an asset for the CIA investigating the Trump campaign. The Washington Examiner pointed out that Mifsud was never referred to as a Russian agent in the 448-page report nor explicitly called one in the Washington Post op-ed by Comey. The Mueller report only identified him as having connections within Russia. Papadopoulos has said he believed Mifsud was acting as a Western agent to spy.

A sexual assault case in April involving a licensed lawyer who was also a senior executive of a Shandong province oil enterprise prompted China’s Ministry of Justice to launch a mass purge of lawyers that has toppled more than 660 lawyers in Hunan province, legal sources said.

The accusations against Bao Yuming – vice president and chief legal officer of Shandong Yantai Jereh Group, China’s largest oilfield services company – were serious: He had sexually assaulted his adopted daughter since 2015. Jereh and the ZTE Corporation, where he was an independent non-executive director, announced his resignation as soon as the case was exposed.

It was not Bao’s alleged sexual misdeeds that China’s Ministry of Justice was targeting, however, when it launched a large-scale purge of lawyers, an unfolding nationwide campaign that led to the revocation of the law licenses of more than 660 lawyers in central Hunan province in August alone.

The purge is focusing on targeting full-time lawyers violating rules on holding two or more positions concurrently, signing labor contracts with firms other than law firms, and practicing as full-time lawyers while holding foreign passports and concealing the revocation of Chinese nationality, lawyers said

AP Report: Army Ranger to receive Medal of Honor for heroic rescue of 70 ISIS hostages

Sgt. Maj. Thomas “Patrick” Payne, U.S. Army Ranger, is reportedly set to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for the heroic rescue of 70 hostages from the Islamic State terror group in Iraq in 2015.

The Associated Press reported, based on comments from two unnamed Department of Defense officials, that Payne will be awarded the Medal of Honor. The officials said Payne will receive the U.S. military’s highest decoration in a ceremony on Sept. 11, the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks that set off the global war on terror.

In a pre-dawn raid against ISIS on Oct. 22, 2015, Payne and his unit were assigned to assist Kurdish commandos rescuing the hostages. While his unit was meant to only assist and not directly engage with ISIS, Payne lept into action after Kurdish commandos tried unsuccessfully to breach the ISIS compound where the hostages were and accidentally alerted the ISIS militants therein.

Payne and his unit scaled the wall of the ISIS compound and quickly cleared one of two buildings where the hostages were being held, freeing 4o in the first house. Braving enemy gunfire, Payne and Master Sgt. Joshua L. Wheeler and some other members of his team moved on to a second partially burning building where a gun battle was taking place between ISIS fighters and Kurdish commandos.

During their effort to reinforce the Kurdish forces battling ISIS, Wheeler was shot and killed. Wheeler was the first American killed in action since the U.S. returned to Iraq in 2014 to assist in the fight against ISIS.

9 arrested in GA sex trafficking sting after 39 missing kids found safe across 7 states

New details have emerged in a two-week effort last month that located 39 missing and endangered children, some of whom were said to have been sex-trafficking victims.

In all, 39 children were found across seven states in an operation led by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Information in a news release from the Marshals Service made national headlines last week. The news release said all of the children had been found in Georgia.

But it turns out that six of the children were found across six states — Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee — a federal agent involved in the operation told The Telegraph this week.

All told, 26 children were said to have been rescued and 13 others were safely located.

None involved a stranger abduction and one case involved an alleged parental kidnapping of a 3-year-old child.

So far nine arrests have been made in the effort, four of them in Florida, the agent said.

ARRESTS

People arrested in the case, according to the Marshals Service, were:

Moradeyo Amos Bandele, arrested in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on rape charge in Conyers, Georgia.

Trayon Moore, arrested in DeKalb County, on a sex-trafficking charge and on probation-violation warrants.

James Garcia, arrested in Clearwater, Florida, on charges from Whitfield County, Georgia, that included aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy and incest with a minor.

Faye Smith, arrested Clearwater, Florida, for an alleged probation violation.

Sally Garcia, arrested in Clearwater, Florida, charged with interference with child custody.

Zachary Bailey, arrested in Columbus, accused of charges that include human trafficking, enticing of a minor for indecent purposes and enticement of a minor for solicitation.

Stanson Causey, arrested in the Georgia city of Jasper, said to be a registered sex offender wanted for an alleged probation violation.

Kirk Waters, arrested in Newton County, accused of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Trevonte Shareef, arrested in Newton County, charged with interference with child custody and obstruction.

U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is leading the investigation into the Obama administration’s spying on the Trump campaign has already gotten a guilty plea out of former former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who admitted to altering evidence that the FBI used to get a FISA warrant extension for another 90 days to continue spying on the Trump campaign.

The FBI even admits they acted wrongly. FBI Director Christopher Wray has agreed there was illegal surveillance on the Trump campaign.

Rare 4.0 magnitude earthquake reported in Florida Panhandle

MOUNT CARMEL, Fla. — A 4.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in the Florida panhandle Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS says the earthquake was centered 3 km northwest of Mount Carmel at a depth of 10 km. It happened at 11:07 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

According to the USGS Impact Report, the earthquake caused only weak shaking and no damage is expected as a result of the quake.

As of 11:40 a.m., seven people reported having felt the earthquake, which happened right along the border of Florida and Alabama. Some shaking could possibly have been felt as far north as Montgomery, Alabama, according to the USGS' interactive map.

Florida earthquakes are rare, with the Sunshine State tied with North Dakota as the state with the fewest quakes, according to the USGS, but small earthquakes can occur anywhere in the world. Click here for a map of all earthquakes in Florida since 1900.

US WILL NOT JOIN WHO’s CORONAVIRUS VACCINE EFFORT, White House says

The US will not participate in a worldwide effort to develop and distribute a coronavirus vaccine — in part because the initiative is being led by the World Health Organization, the White House announced Tuesday.

President Trump has expressed confidence in US efforts to develop a vaccine and has been harshly critical of the WHO, chastising the international health organization for its “China-centric” approach to the pandemic.

“Under President Trump’s leadership vaccine and therapeutic research, development, and trials have advanced at unprecedented speed to deliver groundbreaking, effective medicines driven by data and safety and not held back by government red tape,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said, The Hill reported.

“The United States will continue to engage our international partners to ensure we defeat this virus, but we will not be constrained by multilateral organizations by the corrupt World Health Organization and China,” Deere added.

He said the president “will spare no expense to ensure that any new vaccine maintains our own FDA’s gold standard for safety and efficacy.”

But critics warned that the decision could deny the US access to a global pool of potential vaccines if they are developed overseas by one of the 170 nations taking part in the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access — or COVAX — effort.

“From a global health perspective it’s a very unwise decision,” Andrea Feigl-Ding, CEO of the Health Finance Institute, told The Hill. “It’s symptomatic of a death culture. That’s a strong word, but us versus them helps no one.”

Des Moines man indicted on federal sex trafficking charges spanning nearly a decade

A Des Moines man appeared in federal court Tuesday to face sex trafficking and drug charges.

Marlin Santana Thomas, 45, is charged with trafficking seven women and one minor girl between September 2009 and February 2018, distributing heroin and transporting women out of state for the purpose of prostitution.

Authorities say Thomas transported women and one minor to Minnesota, North Dakota and Illinois and forced them or coerced them into prostitution.

He was indicted by a grand jury in July.

Thomas is currently serving time in federal prison on drug charges stemming from a separate investigation.

Thomas was arrested by Des Moines police in May 2017 and charged with trafficking a person under age 18. Authorities say he arranged for three man to meet with and have sex with a victim, according to court documents from those charges in state court.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of assault causing bodily injury and was sentenced to three years in state prison.

In May 2018, Thomas pleaded guilty to a federal count of conspiracy to distribute a substance containing heroin. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Scherle said women trafficked by Thomas felt safe enough to come forward after he was taken in custody on the federal drug charge.

Fort Benning soldier jailed on 2 child sex abuse charges

A Fort Benning soldier has been arrested on child sex abuse charges.

Just Scott Reed, 30, was arrested Aug. 27, according to an announcement this week by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Central Intelligence Division at Fort Benning. He is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of two victims.

One of the victims is under the age of 16 and the other is under the age of 12, said Sheriff Jimmy Abbett. The investigation began in April when the alleged crimes were reported to sheriff’s officials.

Additional details have not been released, and Abbett said the investigation is ongoing. Reed is being held in the Tallapoosa County Jail with bond set at $30,000. He is set to have his first court appearance later this month.

Fire at oil storage facility kills 2 in Pakistan's port city

KARACHI, Pakistan – A massive fire broke out Thursday at the main oil storage facility on the outskirts of the Pakistani port city of Karachi, at a terminal used by a local subsidiary of the Royal Dutch Shell. Two drivers were killed and three others were injured, police and local media reported.

The incident took place while truck drivers were waiting to get oil supplies. Local TV footage showed firefighters trying to extinguish the blaze, which was later brought under control.

It was not immediately known what had caused the fire and the government and police provided no details. Authorities later said they temporarily suspended oil supplies from the terminal for The security reasons.

In 2017, days after a fuel truck fire that killed 215 people, Pakistan ordered the same subsidiary, Shell Pakistan, to pay $2.4 million in compensation to the victims. The incident took place when an oil tanker crashed in Punjab province, erupting into a fire as crowds of impoverished local villagers hurried to the site to try and collect oil that was spilling out, ignoring warnings.

Lebanese army finds 4 tons of ammonium nitrate in Beirut

BEIRUT (AP) — The Lebanese military discovered more than 4 tons of ammonium nitrate near Beirut's port on Thursday, a find that's a chilling reminder of the horrific explosion a month ago that killed 191 people.

According to the military, army experts were called in for an inspection and found 4.35 tons of the dangerous chemical in four containers stored near the port. There were no details on the origin of the chemicals or their owner,

The find comes almost exactly a month after nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate stored at Beirut’s port for six years detonated, wreaking death and destruction. Along with 191 people killed, more than 6,000 were injured and entire neighborhoods were devastated. The blast left nearly 300,000 people homeless and caused damage worth billions of dollars.

The military statement said that customs officials had called in the army to inspect containers at a facility near the port, where they found 4.35 tons of ammonium nitrate. It said army experts were “dealing with the material," an apparent reference that it was being destroyed.

Days after the Aug. 4 blast, French and Italian chemical experts working amid the remains of the port identified more than 20 containers carrying dangerous chemicals. The army later said that these containers were moved and stored safely in locations away from the port.

French experts as well as the FBI have taken part in the investigation into the Aug. 4 blast, at the request of Lebanese authorities. Their findings have yet to be released.

So far, authorities have detained 25 people over last month's explosion, most of them port and customs officials.

Justice Department Conducting "Very Big" Voter Fraud Investigations, Barr Say

The Department of Justice is conducting several “very big” voter fraud investigations in multiple states, Attorney General William Barr told CNN in an interview aired on Sept. 2.

“I know there are a number of investigations right now, some very big ones, in states,” Barr said in response to a question about how many voter fraud indictments the Department of Justice (DOJ) has brought on his watch.

Barr said he did not know the exact number.

At least 32 people have been criminally convicted of voter fraud in 2019, according to a database maintained by the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank.

The attorney general made the remarks as part of a tense exchange with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer about mail-in voting. Barr has repeatedly said that mass mail-in voting is an invitation for voter fraud and coercion. Blitzer pressed the attorney general for evidence that this will be the case in 2020.

Barr pointed to a recent conviction in Texas over 1,700 fraudulent ballots and noted that widespread evidence isn’t available because the United States has never attempted an election with the kind of massive access to mail-in voting available in 2020.

At least 83 percent of American voters, or roughly 100 million people, will be able to vote by mail in the 2020 election, according to a tally by The Washington Post.

“We haven’t had the kind of widespread use of mail-in ballots as being proposed,” Barr said.

“We’ve had absentee ballots from people who request them from a specific address. Now what we’re talking about is mailing them to everyone on the voter list, when everyone knows those voter lists are inaccurate.”

Barr referenced the findings of a nonpartisan Commission on Federal Election Reform, co-chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker, which determined in 2005 that mail-in voting creates the potential for voter fraud and opens the door to coercion if activists or party workers are allowed to handle ballots.

Carter recently issued a statement to point out that the commission’s key finding was that states should invest in more research on mail-in voting. The former president encouraged states to invest resources to expand voting by mail.

More than 43 percent of likely American voters would not trust in the integrity of an election if all voters automatically received ballots or ballot request forms by mail, according to an Epoch Times National Poll conducted in late August.

“This is playing with fire,” Barr said.

“We’re a very closely divided country here and people have to have confidence in the results of the election and the legitimacy of the government. And people trying to change the rules to this methodology—which as a matter of logic is very open to fraud and coercion—is reckless and dangerous,” Barr said.

Things are getting real

Nancy Pelosi's daughter, Christine Pelosi, has released a letter from a law firm representing the California cosmetologist who provided stylist services to the House speaker on Monday during a COVID-19 lockdown.

In its letter, the law firm accused the salon owner of engaging in a setup.

What's a brief history here?

On Tuesday, reports emerged that Nancy Pelosi requested an appointment at the San Francisco-area salon despite statewide restrictions on such services due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In footage of the visit, Pelosi can be seen in the salon without a mask.

The salon owner said that Pelosi's visit was a "slap in the face" considering she has been unable to open her salon for months due to lockdown restrictions. The owner also pointed out that the House speaker "feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can't work."

Pelosi on Wednesday complained that the salon set her up, and said the owner owes her an apology over the criticism she faced.

"I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that I've been to over the years many times," Pelosi said. "And that when they said 'We're able to accommodate people one person at a time' and that we can set up that time, I trusted that. As it turns out, it was a setup, so I take responsibility for falling for a setup."

What are the details?

The letter, from attorney Matthew Soleimanpour, accused eSalon owner Erica Kious of setting up cosmetologist Jonathan De Nardo, Pelosi's stylist.

A portion of the letter reads, "In response to press inquiries on the matter, Mr. DeNardo can confirm that he indeed did provide professional stylist services to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) on August 31, 2020, at the 'eSalon,' located … in San Francisco, California."

"Mr. DeNardo, at all times, took all requisite safety measures throughout his appointment with Speaker Pelosi, including sanitation of all service areas and wearing of CDC-recommended protective equipment, and thereafter ensured the premises were similarly sanitized following Speaker Pelosi's departure," the letter adds.

Soleimanpour adds that DeNardo — who has worked at eSalon for approximately six years — received approval from Kious to book an appointment with Pelosi.

Kious on Wednesday told Fox News that she did not engage in any type of setup at all.

"[Pelosi] had called the stylist, or her assistant did, and made the appointment, so the appointment was already booked, so there was no way I could've set that up," Kious said. "And I've had a camera system in there for five years. I mean, I didn't go in there and turn cameras on as soon as she walked in to set her up. So that's absolutely false."

The letter notes, "Ms. Kious took special interest in the appointment during this telephone call, wherein she made several vitriolic and incendiary comments about Speaker Pelosi and her purported responsibility for temporarily suspending operations of Ms. Kious' business, despite such orders actually being put into place not by Speaker Pelosi, but by Governor Gavin Newsome [sic] and San Francisco Mayor London Breed."

Despite the alleged remarks, Kious reportedly permitted DeNardo to follow through with styling Pelosi.

"This office is in possession of photographs, videos, and witness information that Ms. Kious, contrary to her prior statements to the press, has actually been operating her business during the stay-at-home orders and similar executive orders limiting in-store operations since as far back as April 2020."

Such photographs purport to show Kious refusing to follow social distancing requirements as well as refusing to adhere to mask-wearing guidelines.

"What's more," the letter continues, "Ms. Kious has also been actively encouraging and almost forcing stylists who operate at eSalon to violate such orders for her own financial benefit in the form of receiving lease payments."

The letter concludes, "The fact that Ms. Kious is now objecting to Speaker Pelosi's presence at eSalon, and from a simple surface-level review of Ms. Kious' political leanings, it appears Ms. Kious is furthering a set-up of Speaker Pelosi for her own vain aspirations."

California lawmakers passed a bill Monday that would reduce penalties for adults who have oral or anal sex with a willing minor child if the sex offender is within ten years of the age of the victim.

According to SB 145, the legislation “would exempt from mandatory registration” as a sex offender “a person convicted of certain offenses involving minors if the person is not more than 10 years older than the minor and if that offense is the only one requiring the person to register.”

The measure would allow a judge to decide if an adult who engages in oral or anal sex with a child must register as a sex offender if that person is within ten years of the age of the victim.

In January 2019, the San Francisco Examiner reported on the introduction of the bill by State Sen. Scott Wiener (D), who claimed the current law, which states oral and anal sex between an adult within ten years of the age of a willing minor requires the adult to be registered as a sex offender, discriminates against LGBT individuals.

The bill would put an end to “blatant discrimination against young LGBT people engaged in consensual activity,” Wiener said:

This bill is about treating everyone equally under the law. Discrimination against LGBT people is simply not the California way. These laws were put in place during a more conservative and anti-LGBT time in California’s history. They have ruined people’s lives and made it harder for them to get jobs, secure housing, and live productive lives. It is time we update these laws and treat everyone equally.

Currently in California, judges may decide whether adults who have “penile-vaginal intercourse” with minors close to their age must register as a sex offender.

Wiener said the current law targets LGBT individuals because they do not engage in penile-vaginal intercourse.

“This is such horrific homophobia,” Wiener said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “It’s irrational, and it ruins people’s lives.”

The Chronicle‘s report stated that, in 1975, California decriminalized oral and anal sex between consenting adults, but adults who engaged in these practices with minors were treated as sex offenders.

In a tweet, Wiener urged his followers to read an Associated Press “fact check” story about the controversial bill that minimizes its impact with the headline, “Bill Would Not Legalize Pedophilia in California.”

Governor issues executive order to facilitate voting in November

Local clerks say the order will help, but predict voting and tabulating results will be challenging.

To facilitate voting, Governor Janet Mills issued an executive order on Thursday, Aug. 27, that gives municipal clerks more time to process absentee ballots ahead of the election, imposes coronavirus-related capacity restrictions on polling places, allows Maine residents an additional six days to register to vote by mail and extends the window for casting an in-person absentee ballot prior to the Nov. 3 elections.

The executive order’s provisions:

• Give Maine residents until Oct. 19, rather than Oct. 13, to register to vote by mail or by third-person. In-person registration will still be allowed on Election Day.

Allow local election officials to begin counting absentee ballots seven days before the election, up from the four days now allowed under law.

• Provide an extra day for voters to cast absentee ballots in person at their polling place prior to Nov. 3.

• Place a limit of 50 people inside a single polling place at any given time or “such lesser number as allows sufficient space to meet the six-foot physical distancing requirement between persons.”

• Require signage and ground lines marking six-foot distances between those standing in line to vote, including outside of the polling place.

• Suspend the requirement that polling places provide at least one voting booth for every 200 registered voters if it would lead to crowding or booths spaced less than six feet apart.

Mills also authorized Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap to implement the order with guidance from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gulf Cartel Boss Gets Second Chance to Run Operations on House Arrest

A leading Gulf Cartel member who was previously caught running his criminal organization under house arrest is back in business after a second border state judge granted him a new order to remain home.

Known in the criminal underworld as “El 90 or El Juanito or Juanillo,” Juan Manuel Hernandez Vasquez managed to continue leading his criminal empire despite numerous arrests.

Breitbart Texas consulted with U.S. law enforcement sources in Mexico who revealed that Juanito is the leader of one of the largest fuel theft organizations in Nuevo Leon with protections from authorities. Moving largely out of the drug trade in recent months, the Gulf Cartel member from Matamoros currently runs cells in Hidalgo, El Carmen, Salinas Victoria, and Mina in Nuevo Leon. Authorities recently arrested a narco-terrorist named Adrián Alfonso “El Trailer” Castillo Miguel who was preparing to blow up a government building after Juanito and others cut him out of the business.

German Migrant Taxi NGO Sends New Ship to the Mediterranean

The German migrant transport NGO Sea-Eye has announced it is ready to set sail on a new mission to pick up migrants in the Mediterranean and bring them to Europe in a vessel bigger than their last.

The NGO announced their new vessel, the Ghalib Kurdi, named after the brother of drowned toddler Alan Kurdi, would be setting sail by the end of the year. Currently stationed at the port of Regensburg in Germany, the NGO is only waiting for equipment and the formal transfer of ownership.

Sea-Eye fundraised for the vessel and mission with the support of several groups, including the Roman Catholic church in Germany, which the NGO singled out for praise, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

The NGO’s other vessel, the Alan Kurdi, was seized by Italian authorities but was allowed to leave in June. It remains at the port of Burriana in Spain.

Sea-Eye has allegedly been hesitant to resume migrant transport operations off the Libyan coast, fearing that their ship could be seized by Italian authorities again.

The decision to launch a new vessel mirrors moves by another German migrant transport NGO, Sea-Watch, which had its ship, the Sea-Watch 3, seized in July after it had brought at least 28 migrants infected with Chinese coronavirus to Italy.

Last month, the group launched another vessel, the Sea-Watch 4, which has transported 353 migrants to Italy this week. It is expected to drop them off in Palermo on Wednesday where they will be quarantined due to the pandemic.

The coronavirus has created a fascinating paradox in the economy. On the one hand, millions of Americans are out of work, supplemental unemployment insurance is now only $300 per week, and Congress can’t agree to pass a new relief package. And yet the stock market is at an all-time high, and some of the richest people in the world have therefore seen their fortunes surge, as our latest visualization makes clear.

This year Jeff Bezos became the first person to ever have a personal net worth of over $200B, making him by far the richest person in the world.

Only one other person, Bernard Arnault, controls over $100B. Since we are only focusing on the single wealthiest person or family per country, Bill Gates didn’t make the cut ($118B).

The distribution of wealth across the richest men in the world starts to flatten out under $50B, with several men controlling $10 to $30B.

There’s almost nobody from the Southern Hemisphere with more than $10B in wealth. Carlos Slim Helu ($51B) and Joseph Safra ($22.8B) are the only entrants from South America.

We found the data for our visualization of the richest men at the real-time billionaire tracker from Forbes, which measures the approximate daily fluctuations in wealth across the world’s richest people. We previously analyzed the richest women in the world. We took the pictures of the richest men in the world and placed them on the map, limiting our work to just those with a fortune of $10B or more as of September 1, 2020. Then, we sized each photo to a bubble corresponding to the size of their fortune, creating an intuitive snapshot of the world’s wealthiest men in 2020.

Maduro Regime Releases Hundreds of Political Prisoners in Venezuela in Attempt to Keep Power in the Failed Socialist State

The political environment in Venezuela continues to escalate after the release of prisoners of conscience ordered by the Maduro Socialist regime.

Exclusively from Colombia, the deputy in exile Gaby Arellano says, “Maduro’s dictatorship made specific the release of political prisoners to give a veneer to parliamentary fraud.”

Arellano indicated that after this decision by the dictator was meant to keep power in his failed Socialist nation.

In August there were reportedly 384 political prisoners. The police, the military, and half of the people on the list are exiled politicians who are not mentioned among those released.

Maduro released the prisoners as a goodwill gesture that was requested by the Spanish government.

Gaby Arellano clarified that this was not a pardon but a liberation.

The political prisoners were kidnapped by the regime for political reasons.

Those released were never sentenced and were being held in prison for having opinions contrary to the socialist dictatorship.

Let this be a warning to the Western world.

Moscow Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, hosted a high-level panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference titled “Combating hate crime” where he complained that people are using their new, unregulated freedom of speech in social media to say things he and his fellow Jews don’t like:

Together with the executive vice president of the World Jewish Congress Maram Stern, the panel was chaired by Chief Rabbi Goldschmidt and focused on the dangers caused by social media, including rampant anti-Semitism, far-right extremism and Islamophobia – all of which have found new life online.

A key agenda point addressed how social media channels spread messages faster and more efficiently than ever before and that more needs to be done to regulate these channels. The speakers concluded that tech giants are failing to deal with forms of racist hatred and the dissemination of extremist views across their platforms.

Speaking to the Munich Security Conference, Chief Rabbi Goldschmidt said: “The internet has created a vast arena in which those who hold a deep hatred towards religious groups, for instance, are able to share their views with others. More worryingly, they use a variety of platforms such as instant messaging to share dangerous tactics in their attempt to attack – both verbally and physically – those who do not subscribe to their way of thinking or choice of lifestyle. The evidence is clear: Hate and prejudice is commonplace on social media. The Halle synagogue on Yom Kippur and the mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, are prime examples of digitally inspired attacks.”

Goldschmidt called on governments around the globe to regulate social media to avoid its misuse. During the debate, many agreed that technology has, to a certain extent, “broken” democracy. Peter Neumann, Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR), King’s College London said that from a technological point of view “free speech actually is working against democracies” and that “hate speech, in particular, is a huge challenge for our democracies today.”

To combat this problem, Prof. Dr. Michel Friedman, lawyer, philosopher, and Executive Director of Center for Applied European Studies (CAES) pointed out that we first must discuss and understand when a hate crime begins and when it is necessary to respond. To counter this, the panel suggested copying the example of the digital fight against Islamic state. Here, major internet platforms joined forces to remove online jihadism from forums and accounts internationally.

Lukashenko claims Merkel’s remarks on Navalny ‘poisoning’ were fabricated, cites Berlin-Warsaw phone call 'intercepted' by Minsk

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement on the alleged poisoning of Alexey Navalny was a “falsification,” Belarus’ embattled president said on Thursday, citing an unverified supposed intercept of German-Polish communications.

“We have intercepted an interesting conversation, which… clearly indicates that this is falsification. There was no poisoning of Navalny,” the president of Belarus told Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, during his visit to Minsk.

Lukashenko claimed the motivation was to prevent Moscow from interfering in his country. “They did it to discourage [Vladimir] Putin from sticking his nose into the affairs of Belarus," he alleged. "You understand how these people act." The Belarusian President also felt it may have been some sort of "dirty trick" to influence regional elections set to be held in Russia, this month.

He didn’t cite any immediate evidence to back up his audacious claim, but said, “I’ll let you read it, we will prepare and send it to the FSB [Russia's federal security service].”

The unspecified “conversation” – in Lukashenko’s words – occurred before Merkel made the headline-grabbing statement, suggesting the Russian opposition figure was poisoned by a “Novichok-class” nerve agent. The Chancellor based her comments on the findings of a German military laboratory.

“As I understand it, a group of specialists prepared for Merkel, for her administration, the facts – and maybe the statement that she made,” Lukashenko continued. The reason for the alleged set-up was to “discourage Putin from poking his head into the affairs of Belarus,” Lukashenko told Mishustin.

“We understand that it was Warsaw talking to Berlin. Two callers were on the line,” the Belarusian president said. The apparent bombshell intercept was allegedly provided by Belarus’ signals intelligence.

The Marine Corps is building a new state-of-the-art facility where it will run classified wargaming scenarios in preparation for a fight with a high-tech enemy.

A new Marine Corps Wargaming and Analysis Center is expected to be up and running in Quantico, Virginia, by 2024. The 100,000-square foot center, which will be built on the Marine Corps University campus, will host more than a dozen wargames every year – including two large-scale, 250-person exercises, a new announcement on the center states.

"Simulations will offer a realistic representation of future operating environments," the notice adds.

Lt. Gen. Eric Smith, the head of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, told Military.com earlier this year that the wargaming center will have sophisticated modeling and simulation tools.

"You can change one or two variables and run that thing hundreds of times," he said.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has discussed with US Senior Adviser Jared Kushner the need to resume negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported yesterday.

The two officials also discussed mutual relations and several other issues related to the stability and security of the region.

“They discussed the partnership between the two friendly countries and the importance of strengthening it in all fields, especially in order to achieve security and stability in the region,” SPA said.

“They also discussed the prospects for the peace process in the region, and the need to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides to achieve a just and lasting peace,” the statement added.

Kushner’s meeting with Bin Salman came after his visit to the UAE and Bahrain, where he met senior officials from both Gulf States.

During the visit to Bahrain, Manama refused to follow in the footsteps of the UAE and insisted that it would only normalise ties with Israel when regional power-house, Saudi Arabia, strikes a deal with Tel Aviv.

On 13 August, US President Donald Trump announced a peace deal between the UAE and Israel brokered by Washington.

Abu Dhabi said the deal was an effort to stave off Tel Aviv’s planned annexation of the occupied West Bank, however, opponents believe normalisation efforts have been in the offing for many years as Israeli officials have made official visits to the UAE and attended conferences in the country which had no diplomatic or other ties with the occupation state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu however denied this saying annexation is not off the table, but has simply been delayed.

In a July 13, 2020 response to Judicial Watch’s request, the Secret Service appeared to confirm that a file on the alleged incident existed at some point, asserting, “[T]here are no responsive records or documents pertaining to your request in our files,” because “the above mentioned file(s) has been destroyed” due to “retention standards.” The Secret Service added that, “[n]o additional information is available.” It did not deny the incident had occurred. However, under their bill, SB 145, the offenders would not have to automatically register as sex offenders if the offenders are within 10 years of age of the minor.

According to Wiener last year: “SB 145 ends blatant discrimination against young people engaged in voluntary sexual activity by providing courts the discretion to decide, at sentencing, if registering the defendant as a sex offenders is appropriate, regardless of the sex act they performed,” bill analysis reported in August 2019.

A California bill that would remove a requirement for offenders to register as a sex offender after committing certain sex acts with minors within a 10-year age difference is set to go to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk after passing in both legislative houses.

The bill, SB 145, applies in cases where the victim is between the ages of 14 and 17 and aims to lift an existing registration requirement for oral and anal sex. The state senate and assembly both voted to approve the bill on Tuesday despite Republican opposition in the Senate and bipartisan opposition in the assembly.

State Senator Scott Wiener, who introduced the bill

claims it is meant to treat LGBT offenders the same as heterosexual offenders, as there is already a similar exemption from mandatory registration for vaginal intercourse between partners of a similar age difference.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden (D) was endorsed Thursday by a group representing almost 100 former Republican lawmakers and officials who have joined an effort to defeat President Trump in November.

The new group, Republicans & Independents for Biden, is led by former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) and said that its "sole mission is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden the next President of the United States."

“More than 180,000 Americans are dead from a pandemic that, with consistent leadership, could have been contained. Instead, it has been left to spin out of control by a President who ignored it, refused to lead, and endangered American lives,” Whitman said in a statement. “In this moment of great national crisis, we need to elect a leader matched to the moment, someone who can restore competence to the oval office and unify the country. Joe Biden is that leader.”

The Republican group, which was first reported by Reuters, also includes a handful of former governors including former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R), who launched a bid for the GOP nomination earlier this year and previously served as the Libertarian Party's vice presidential nominee in 2016.

"Joe Biden is a man of deep faith and commitment to family, decency and integrity, which will serve us all well when he is in the White House," Snyder said. “We must elect Joe Biden in November so that we can begin the arduous but essential process of healing America and putting society back on a positive path where civility and working together help us achieve great things as a nation once again.”

Others such as former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), who endorsed Biden in a CNN op-ed last month, were also on the list of officials signed on to the effort. Trump admin formalizes exit from health org it accuses of working for China

The Trump administration pulled $62 million in funding from the World Health Organization on Wednesday and is taking further steps to withdraw from the body, which the United States accuses of helping China obfuscate information about the coronavirus pandemic.

The United States is on track to cut its funding and personnel from the agency before July 2021, when President Donald Trump's order earlier this year ending the U.S. relationship with WHO is set to begin, according to senior administration officials working on the matter. The United States will not consider rejoining the organization until it "gets its act together," according to Nerissa Cook, deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs.

U.S. officials informed the WHO of the administration's decision Wednesday and reiterated demands that the organization implement a series of widespread reforms to limit China's interference in the body. American diplomats have been pressuring the organization for months over its efforts to help China hide evidence of the coronavirus's origins. The Trump administration maintains the WHO was complicit in Beijing's efforts to promulgate lies about the virus in the early days of its spread. The WHO went along with China's claim that it was the first country to publicly report the virus. U.S. pressure on the WHO has irritated China and European powers that continue to maintain the organization is an effective oversight body.

"The position of the White House is that the WHO needs to reform, and that is starting with demonstrating its independence from the Chinese Communist Party," Cook said. "And it needs to make improvements in its ability to prepare for, to prevent, to detect, and to respond to outbreaks of dangerous pathogens."

The United States paid around 22 percent of the WHO's regular budget, more than $100 million a year. In 2020, the United States sent more than $120 million to the organization, $58 million of which had been disbursed prior to Trump's decision to freeze funding to the organization in April. The remaining money "will be reprogrammed to the U.N." for other programs and organizations the United States still supports, according to Cook.

'We are faced with new attacks that are unlawful, unconstitutional,' four mayors say

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told President Trump "we will see you in court" on Thursday after the president threatened the federal funding for Seattle, Portland, New York City and Washington, D.C. as part of an effort to target “anarchist jurisdictions” that he claims have “permitted violence and the destruction of property” during recent protests.

"I want to speak directly to the president," de Blasio said during a press conference Thursday morning. "If you persist in trying to deny the funding that's keeping New York City going in the middle of this crisis, we will see you in court and once again we will beat you in court.

"Your words don't carry much weight on this topic because the Supreme Court has spoken," de Blasio said. "The president of the United States can't interfere with funding for cities and states just because he feels like it."

In addition to de Blasio's remarks, the Democratic mayors of the four cities issued a statement on Thursday.

"Our cities, and the millions of Americans who we represent, are not President Trump’s political pawns," they said in a statement. "We are confronting unprecedented challenges—fighting back a pandemic and economic devastation without another stimulus. Now, instead of leadership from the White House, we are faced with new attacks that are unlawful, unconstitutional and will be undoubtedly defeated in court.

"President Trump needs to wake up to the reality facing our cities — and our entire country — and realize he is not above the law," the statement continued.

In a memo to the attorney general and the White House budget director, the president called for a review of all federal funds provided to the four cities, saying, “it is imperative that the federal government review the use of federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America's cities.”

All four cities have experienced varying amounts of violence and destruction of property amid the summer-long protests against police brutality, systemic racism and Trump himself.

“My administration will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” Trump wrote in the memo.

Then-AG Harris halted enforcement that barred sex offenders from living near parks, schools

Kamala Harris stopped enforcing a widely supported sex offender law during her tenure as California's attorney general, allowing sex predators to live near children.

In a confidential legal opinion, Harris ordered the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 2015 to stop enforcing residency restrictions that prohibited sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of parks and schools. In doing so, Harris upended a key provision of Jessica's Law, an anti-sex offender law that 70 percent of California voters approved in a 2006 statewide referendum.

Harris lifted the residency restriction for sex offenders after a 2015 state supreme court ruling that relaxed the restriction in San Diego due to the area's high population density. While the ruling applied only to San Diego parolees, Harris stopped enforcing the residency restriction throughout the Golden State, ignoring claims by criminal justice advocates that the residency restrictions could still be enforced in the vast majority of counties. George Runner, one of the sponsors for the ballot initiative for Jessica's Law, said that Harris's decision jeopardized the safety of California kids.

"The head law enforcement officer in California was more concerned about protecting the rights of sex offenders than she was of parents and children," Runner, a former state senator, said.

Harris's leniency toward sex offenders stands in contrast to her reputation as a tough prosecutor who cracked down on criminals, especially sexual offenders. The vice presidential candidate touted on the campaign trail that she pushed to shut down popular website Backpage.com for facilitating sex trafficking—a claim that is receiving renewed scrutiny after revelations that the website actually served as an invaluable tool for law enforcement to catch predators. Harris also defended Jessica's Law when she was running for election as California's attorney general in 2010, smearing her Republican opponent as a "sexist coddler of child molesters" for making dismissive comments about the law.

Neither the Biden campaign nor Harris's office responded to requests for comment.

Football: English Premier League tears up $1 billion China TV contract

The English Premier League has terminated its contract with Chinese streaming service PPTV — its largest international broadcast deal.

The Premier League terminated a lucrative broadcasting contract with its licensee in China on Friday, dealing a further blow to the English top-flight as clubs adjust to heavy losses as a result of the coronavirus.

Streaming service PPTV agreed a reported $956 million (AUD) deal for the right to broadcast all 380 Premier League matches per season from 2019 to 2022.

However, the first season of that deal was hit by the coronavirus pandemic with a three-month shutdown between March and June before the season was completed behind closed doors.

PPTV reportedly failed to make a $292 million payment due in March for coverage of the 2019/20 season.

“The Premier League confirms that it has today terminated its agreements for Premier League coverage in China with its licensee in that territory,” the Premier League said in a statement.

“The Premier League will not be commenting further on the matter at this stage.”

The English top-flight is already facing huge losses due to coronavirus. The new season is set to start on September 12 in empty stadiums, while domestic and international broadcasters were due rebates because of the disruption to the 2019/20 season.

PP said in a statement that after many rounds of talks disagreements remained on the value of the rights.

“Regrettably, we have not reached an agreement with the Premier League,” it said.

“Despite PP paying more than the copyright cycle fee to Premier League in advance, as agreed, PP will terminate its co-operation with the Premier League.”

It remains to be seen whether the Premier League will be able to negotiate a new rights deal in China on similar terms due to challenging economic and political conditions.

Last season was marked by political tensions between Britain and China.

In December, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV pulled a game between Arsenal and Manchester City from its program after Gunners midfielder Mesut Ozil expressed support for mainly Muslim Uighurs in Xinjiang.

Relations between the two countries have also soured as the British government has ordered the phased removal of Chinese telecoms giant Huawei from its 5G network.

It also offered citizenship to millions of Hong Kong nationals in response to a sweeping new security law that Beijing has imposed on the former British colony.

Princeton President Bends Over Backwards To Combat ‘Systemic Racism’

In an open letter to the professors, students, and faculty of Princeton University, President Christopher Eisgruber listed several proposals “to fight systemic racism in the world at large” and “within our own community.”

His ideas include creating a new degree program for “communities disproportionately affected by systemic racism,” “assemble a faculty that more closely reflects” the student makeup of the college, and “diversify Princeton’s postdoctoral researchers, lecturers, visiting faculty, and graduate students.”

His laundry list of ideas to bend over to the race-obsessed mob and fight racism that has for “too long damaged the lives of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, both at this University and in the United States more broadly” come after several paragraphs of apologies and woke-language to try to make Princeton sufficiently progressive for the current left-wing ideology.

“Princeton contributes to the world through teaching and research of unsurpassed quality, and we must continue to find ways to bring that mission to bear against racism, and against all of the discrimination that damages the lives of people of color,” he writes.

Interestingly, Princeton’s current student racial profile, according to College Factual, is 41.9 percent white, 21 percent Asian, and 10 percent Hispanic, and 7.6 percent Black. With Eisgruber’s promise to remake the school’s staff to resemble this racial make-up more, it may not be progressive to have a majority white staff.

Instead of encouraging students of different backgrounds that they can achieve and be anything they want in the Land of Opportunity, he says such students are “disproportionately affected by systemic racism and related forms of disadvantage.” Students being told they are behind and “disadvantaged” no matter their effort or drive, is an interesting message from the President.

Eisgruber, who made $970,900 in 2018 while the median Black salary in America that year was $41,511, apologized for the University’s past of excluding races and for the “systemic legacy of past decisions and policies.”

He failed to mention Princeton’s current usage of looking at race during the admission process as a factor—instead he proposes doing this for everything including faculty, lecturers, and even contract workers.

“We can and will provide central support and increased accountability to enhance Princeton’s diversity, but there are limits, including legal restrictions, to what we can do or require as we press ahead with initiatives to diversify the University,” he writes. “For example, we cannot reserve jobs or specific positions for members of underrepresented minority groups.”

To fight racism, he proposes, he will take race into account in almost every factor of the University, including, but certainly not limited to: student make-up, tenured faculty, graduate students, professional development, and even suppliers and contractors.

Whether the cancel culture mob will be pleased, is yet to be seen.

The Big 10 must provide more documents related to the football season being canceled.

According to Omaha.com, a Lancaster County District Court judge ruled the Big 10 must hand over the documents within 10 days after multiple Nebraska football players sued the conference. The B1G canceled football during the coronavirus pandemic, and all hell has broken loose in the aftermath.

Omaha.com wrote the following on the judge’s decision.

The Big Ten must produce all documents reflecting whether an official vote was taken on the decision, including the official tally but not including how individual members voted. It must also reveal in full its governing documents and bylaws — it submitted 13 pages of bylaws to the court last week but redacted more than 11 full pages.

Open up the books, Cowardly Kevin! It looks like the Big 10 is about to learn that this is America and not the Soviet Union circa 1945.

In this country, the truth matters. In this country, fairness matters. This isn’t a communist dictatorship and Cowardly Kevin doesn’t get to rule with an iron fist.

On September 3, ISIS announced that its members had carried out two successful attacks in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno.

In first attack, the group’s terrorists ambushed a convoy of the Nigerian Armed Forces between the towns of Cross and Milefour. The Amaq news agency claimed that ten soldiers were killed in the ambush. Four armored personnel carriers and a pick-up truck were also destroyed.

State elections director issues statement about attempting to vote twice

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The State Board of Elections’ executive director has released a statement following a suggestion on Wednesday by President Donald Trump that voters in North Carolina should vote twice to test the election system.

Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, said “It is illegal to vote twice in an election. N.C.G.S. § 163-275(7) makes it a Class I felony for a voter, “with intent to commit a fraud to register or vote at more than one precinct or more than one time…in the same primary or election.” Attempting to vote twice in an election or soliciting someone to do so also is a violation of North Carolina law.”

During a visit to Wilmington on Wednesday President Trump answered a question about voting in North Carolina.

“They’ll go out and they’ll vote and then they are going to have to check their vote by going to the poll and voting that way, because if it tabulates then they won’t be able to do that, so let them send it in, and let them go vote,” Trump said. “And if the system is as good as they say it is, then they obviously won’t be able to vote (at the poll). If it isn’t tabulated, they will be able to vote. So that’s the way it is, and that’s what they should do.”

Bell’s letter to North Carolinians goes on to say that there are numerous checks in place that prevent people from double voting.

“Electronic pollbooks with information about who has already voted are used at every early voting site. If a voter tries to check in who has already voted, they will be prevented from voting a regular ballot. A voter will be offered a provisional ballot if they insist on voting, and this ballot will be researched after Election Day to determine whether it should be counted,” Bell said.

Zimbabwe Frees Tortured Journalist, Bans Him from Social Media, Takes His House

Zimbabwe’s high court released investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono on bail on Wednesday after he spent six weeks in jail for his support of an anti-government protest, New Zimbabwe reported.

Chin’ono, 49, was released on $10,000 bail pending trial on charges of inciting public violence after he tweeted his support for an anti-government demonstration this summer. He was arrested for the act on July 20.

“The appeal be and is hereby granted. The reasons given by the magistrate in denying him bail are hereby set aside,” High Court judge Tawanda Chitapi ruled, referring to Chin’ono’s three previous attempts to secure bail.

The journalist “was ordered to surrender his passport and title deeds to his Chisipite home [in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare] with court authorities,” according to the newspaper.

Upon his release, Chin’ono told journalists that he felt “strengthened” by his time in jail and that it had redoubled his resolve to continue investigating government corruption in Zimbabwe. According to the Associated Press (AP), Chin’ono’s bail conditions “ban him from using Twitter until his trial is finished,” but he vowed to find an alternative platform for his reporting.

Shortly before his arrest on July 20, Chin’ono reported on alleged corruption within Zimbabwe’s government related to a $60 million purchase of coronavirus medical supplies by the health ministry. Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa later fired the country’s health minister, Obediah Moyo, over the scandal. Moyo has since been formally charged with corruption.

Prior to his release, New Zimbabwe reported that Chin’ono “looked frail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Tuesday with lawyers insisting the journalist was not supposed to be in court after a private doctor had indicated Monday he may have contracted Covid-19 [Chinese coronavirus] while in prison custody.”

One of Chin’ono’s lawyers, Taona Nyamakura, told the court on Tuesday that the journalist’s coronavirus symptoms should have precluded him from appearing in court.

“His condition may be exposing everyone in the courtroom [to coronavirus] as prison authorities forced him to come to court,” Nyamakura said. “His condition requires him not to be in contact with other people until he is given the green light to do so by his physician.”

According to the report, “[t]he court heard that prison wardens dragged Chin’ono out of his cell on the pretext that his physician wanted to see him, only [for him] to be brought to court.”

Upon his release from jail on Wednesday, Chin’ono said he had a fever but was “feeling much better,” while responding to questions about his coronavirus symptoms.

“Mentally, I am fine,” he added, according to the AP.

Seven years after former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden blew the whistle on the mass surveillance of Americans’ telephone records, an appeals court has found the program was unlawful - and that the U.S. intelligence leaders who publicly defended it were not telling the truth.

From the start supporters of Snowden and the journalists who assisted in breaking the story internationally, such as Glen Greenwald, Laura Poitras and others, said the NSA program was a massive violation of citizens' 4th Amendment protections.

National security state hawks, however, attempted to focus the story on Snowden himself, saying his 'traitorous' actions compromised American spies and assets abroad, and also that it was a boon to Washington's enemies and rivals like Russia.

“I never imagined that I would live to see our courts condemn the NSA’s activities as unlawful and in the same ruling credit me for exposing them,” Snowden said on Twitter.

And the ACLU said “Today’s ruling is a victory for our privacy rights,” adding that it “makes plain that the NSA’s bulk collection of Americans’ phone records violated the Constitution.”

Crucially, the three judge panel on the 9th Circuit specifically credited Edward Snowden for exposing it, as Politico notes:

Judge Marsha Berzon's opinion, which contains a half-dozen references to the role of former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden in disclosing the NSA metadata program, concludes that the "bulk collection" of such data violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

If Trump were to move on pardoning Snowden, who is still a fugitive in Russia facing US espionage charges, this could actually help Trump make the argument politically, despite AG Barr recently saying he'd vehemently oppose such a pardon.

It was only a couple weeks ago that Trump said “I’m going to take a very good look at it” when asked about a possible Snowden pardon.

The president raised eyebrows and anxiety across the D.C. beltway with his unprecedented remarks: “There are a lot of people that think that he is not being treated fairly. I mean, I hear that.”

Merkel Pressed To Sabotage Critical Russian Gas Pipeline In Retaliation For Navalny "Poisoning"

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has frequently been criticized for her 'realpolitik' decision to embrace the 'Nord Stream 2'. As Tom Luongo quipped back in July, "no single project has caused more wailing and gnashing of teeth than Nordstream 2. And since Nordstream 2 is simply the substitute for South Stream, which was supposed to come across the Black Sea into Bulgaria and then feed eastern Europe, this U.S. opposition to another Russian pipeline spans multiple administrations." Despite obstacles created by US sanctions on Russia, the Gazprom-led gas-pipeline project is on the verge of completion.

Merkel has defended NordStream as a necessity to secure adequate fossil fuel supplies, even as Germany and its European allies work toward a 'fossil fuel-free' future. In 2017, Germany used up a record 53 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, comprising about 40 percent of Germany's total gas consumption. Nord Stream 2's delivery system is designed to carry up to 55 billion cubic meters (1.942 trillion cubic feet) of gas per year.

Berlin and Moscow agreed on the 1,200-kilometer (746-mile) route connecting the Ust-Luga area near Saint Petersburg with Greifswald in northeastern Germany. The pipes would run across the Baltic Sea, for the most part following the route of the pre-existing Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which became operational in 2011.

A 36-year-old Seattle man threatened to blow up a Portland police station with an “undetectable” bomb unless police stood down from Black Lives Matter protests in the Oregon city, the US Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Kyle Robert Tornow was arrested Wednesday and accused of using the Portland Police TrackIT communication system to warn cops on July 24 that there was a bomb at the stationhouse, and if he were busted “others will take my place and immediately detonate the bomb,” the US Attorney’s Office in Washington state said in a release.

“I am going to bomb a police precinct in Portland OR,” the threat said, according to a federal complaint filed Wednesday. “The bomb is already in place and has been packaged in a way that prevents detection from canine officers. Unless your officers disengage your war with the citizens of Portland I will blow up this precinct.”

“You are weak,” it said. “We are strong, many and fluid in nature… This is a felony threat. Please take this seriously to avoid death.”

There is no indication that a bomb had actually been planted.

The FBI tracked the email address used in the threat, dark56korbit@yahoo.com, and traced it to Tornow, prosecutors said.

He is charged with making a threat to damage or destroy a building, and faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

Tornow has prior arrests for car theft, harassment and drug offenses, the federal complaint said.

FBI agents have raided two nursing homes in Pennsylvania, including one facility that was the source of the worst coronavirus outbreak in the state.

The FBI on Thursday executed search warrants at Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Beaver County, as well as its Mt Lebanon site in Allegheny County, the Justice Department confirmed.

Network of news sites must register as a political committee due to Democratic links, complaint alleges

A new complaint filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission alleges that a national network of local media websites must register as a political committee because of its ties to a Democratic-aligned group.

Courier Newsroom, which includes seven news sites concentrated in presidential swing states,is backed by ACRONYM, a politically active nonprofit run by Democratic strategist Tara McGowan.

Federal election laws and regulations do not apply to media outlets unless they are "owned or controlled by" a political party, committee or candidate and are acting as a media outlet rather than a political one.

But the complaint, filed by Americans for Public Trust, a watchdog group affiliated with former Nevada attorney general Adam Laxalt, a Republican, alleges that Courier Newsroom is not eligible for that exemption and that the media group failed to register as a political group and report its donors and expenses as is required of political groups under federal law.

The complaint points to a June 2019 ACRONYM internal memo, in which McGowan wrote that the group was launching a "for-profit digital media company building out online news properties in seven 2020 battleground states" of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona.

In the memo, McGowan warned that Democrats are "losing the media war" online to the Republican Party and to President Donald Trump's campaign, and laid out her plan for Courier Newsroom to counter that GOP advantage.

"Building this media content network - majority owned by ACRONYM - will: Enable Democrats to compete with Republican echo chambers online; Build nimble communications infrastructure for Dems in critical states; Reach voters with strategic narratives + information year-round; Make cyclical investments in paid advertising more cost-efficient + effective over time," according to the memo, which is included in the legal complaint.

"Through digital storytelling framed to both elevate Democratic candidates and issues important to core audiences, ACRONYM News Corp will finally compete with Republican news properties and narratives where they are already reaching voters online," the memo reads.

On its website, Courier Newsroom describes itself as "a progressive media company." On its website, it states: "We believe that by investing in the work of local journalists across the country we can positively impact civic participation and build a healthier democracy from the ground up."

A staff of reporters and editors work for Courier Newsroom and its affiliated websites, both through aggregating news coverage and through writing original stories, ranging from concerns over the politicization of the Postal Service to the impact of Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The local websites under the Courier Newsroom umbrella include the Copper Courier (Arizona), The Keystone (Pennsylvania), Cardinal & Pine (North Carolina) and The 'Gander (Michigan).

Rithesh Menon, the chief operating officer for Courier Newsroom, said in a statement that while the newsroom is left-leaning, it is neither partisan nor political.

"Courier Newsroom is a for-profit media corporation that is filling the void left by shuttering local news," Menon said in the statement. "We are a progressive newsroom but we are neither a partisan nor political organization, nor are we controlled by any candidate, political party, or political organization."

... "The key issue that we are looking to highlight is that they are an unregistered political committee," Sutherland said. "It's been well documented since their inception that they were never set out to function as a newsroom. Tara McGowan herself said that they decided to counter the Trump and RNC digital spending, not to disseminate news."

However, the FEC currently does not have enough commissioners to take a formal vote on the complaint. The independent agency, responsible for enforcing election laws, is facing a mounting backlog of complaints relating to campaign activity.

Trump campaign bracing for legal battle over election, forming ‘coalition’ of lawyers

Efforts come amid a fierce war of words over the integrity of the vote

The Trump campaign is bracing for the possibility of a protracted legal battle in the event of a contested election, even forming what it's calling a “Lawyers for Trump” coalition to “protect the integrity” of November’s vote.

Campaign General Counsel Matthew Morgan told Fox News this week that the campaign is urging active and retired attorneys and even law students to volunteer in their nationwide efforts.

“Democrats are working to shred election integrity measures one state at a time, and there’s no question they’ll continue their shenanigans from now to November and beyond,” Morgan told Fox News. “The Trump campaign is fighting to ensure every valid ballot across America counts—once.”

He added that the Lawyers for Trump coalition is growing “daily” and “will rally support for President Trump as they lend their time and legal expertise to protect the integrity of November’s election.”

The coalition is being led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, as well as California Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon and former Deputy White House Counsel Stefan Passantino. The group includes prominent Trump-allied attorneys like former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, former Attorney General Ed Meese and the president's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

The campaign’s efforts come amid a fierce war of words between the Trump and Joe Biden campaigns and their allies over the integrity of the vote – covering everything from GOP warnings about mail-in voting to Democrats' predictions that Trump would refuse to accept a loss.

Trump faced heavy criticism this week for suggesting people should try voting twice, first by mail and then in person just in case. He then clarified on Twitter, “On Election Day, or Early Voting, go to your Polling Place to see whether or not your Mail In Vote has been Tabulated (Counted). If it has you will not be able to Vote & the Mail In System worked properly. If it has not been Counted, VOTE (which is a citizen’s right to do).”

The Democratic National Committee accused Trump of urging people to "commit voter fraud."

Republicans, for their part, warn there is a potential for widespread fraud and confusion in November’s election due to the unprecedented scale of mail-in ballots in states across the nation.

“It is the single biggest problem that there is,” Trump said during an interview on “The Ingraham Angle” this week. “Everybody wants an honest election. I want an honest election.”

The president said that his team “has lawyers,” but Democrats “have more lawyers than any human being has ever hired.”

However, the Socialists marketed it as the “Soak the Rich” tax, but payroll taxed everyone but the rich who did not work for a wage. Today, the majority of low-income earners pay more in Social Security than they do in taxes.

We all know that Israel is a hub to a lot of IT technology and cybersecurity companies and startups. But can you believe that the region is also home to more than 120 companies which are into nefarious cyber activities?

Well, these findings were revealed by a Tel Aviv based newspaper ‘The Marker’ which was founded in 1999 by journalist turned entrepreneur Guy Rolnik. The news resource operates news daily in Hebrew language and is known to report some sensational news with the cooperation from the International New York Times.

A reliable source from ‘The Marker’ reports that a firm named Candiru offers cyber attacks-as-a-service where people can sell and hire offensive cyber tools for hacking computer networks.

Named after an Amazon fish which has the tendency to get inside the human urethra when a person swims in water bodies, Candiru is known to sell hacking technology for those who want to spy on phones and computers.

Reports are in that they are over 32 such companies operating in the region which make the offensive cyber activity as a big business in Israel. And trade analysts say that it leads to the generation of $2 billion sales a year from this sole business segment alone.

Cyber Intelligence firm NSO and several other companies from Saudi Arabia and Mexico happen to be the regular customers of the said company as they are found to be using the service tools to spy and crack down their adversaries.

Sources reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders say that Candiru’s sales policy is typical as it doesn’t sell its services to some nations such as Africa, Australia, and the United States. It only has customers from Western Europe and Asia and is adamant on its decision to sell equipment to those based in Israel.

However, TheMarker Claims that NSO is also a customer of Candiru as it is often seen contacting the surreptitious firm for some espionage-related projects. However, the spokesperson of the government based intelligence firm refuses to go on record on the issue.

Like Candiru, FinFisher is also a cyber firm which sells attack tools on the dark web. Both the companies do not have any directories on the web and their 120+ employees do not have a social network presence as they are recruited only when they sign a strict confidentiality agreement.

NOTE 1- Precisely speaking, NSO Group is a government-funded cybersecurity firm based in Herzliya, Israel. The company’s objective is to provide authorized governments cyber tools to help them combat terror and online crime. Pegasus software, a spying software is said to be a brainchild of this firm.

NOTE 2- All the workforce required to carry out the company operations are being recruited from Israel Defense Forces 8200 Intelligence Unit and are reportedly getting a pay of 80,000 shekels or $21,000 as a fixed salary.

NOTE 3-Probably its high time for FBI to make a note of such companies and start keeping a tab on their activities and services being offered to Asian countries.

Hilton Times Square Set To Close As COVID Kills Hospitality Industry

Hilton Times Square is the latest causality of the virus-induced downturn that has crushed the global hospitality industry.

A filing with the New York State Department of Labor on Aug. 31 said the iconic 478-room hotel situated on 234 West 42nd Street would 'permanently close' on Oct. 1.

WSJ reached out to Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc., the real estate investment trust which manages the hotel for more color on the upcoming closing.

A Sunstone spokesperson responded in an emailed statement by indicating the filing to New York state officials "was not intended to imply that there is a permanent closure."

The spokesperson said the filing was intended to inform state officials that layoffs would be seen in the coming months as a result of the closing, adding that a "definitive reopening date has not been determined or established and will be impacted by negotiations with our lender, as well as market conditions."

Last month, Sunstone revealed in an SEC filing that it had missed several months of mortgage payments on the property. The REIT has at least $77 million mortgages coming due on the property in November. It wrote down the value of the property by $107.9 million, to $61.3 million.

The closure of the hotel is an ominous sign of how the virus pandemic has wrecked not just the New York City hotel market but the worldwide travel industry.

US Dow Plunges 807 Points, Tech Stocks Lead Big Sell-Off

In their biggest plunge since June, US stocks sank on Thursday amid huge selloffs driven by tech giant losses.

At closing bell on Thursday, US stocks had suffered some of their biggest single-day losses in months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 28,292.73, an 807.77-point loss, and the S&P 500 suffered a 125.78-point loss to close at 3,455.06. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite lost 598.34 points, closing at 11,458.10.

Big losses by tech giants helped drive the stock sell-offs, as Facebook lost more than 4% of its share value, Apple and Microsoft lost nearly 7% each and Amazon and Netflix more than 5% each.

“Someone hit the ‘sell tech, buy dreck’ button and this is creating a bid beneath beleaguered groups, while [tech] gets pummeled,” Adam Crisafulli of Vital Knowledge told CNBC. “For tech specifically, the stocks are seeing large percent declines, but this comes after a massive recent rally. Tech has been untethered from fundamentals for a while and momentum can work in both directions.”

While tech companies have been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the COVID-19 crisis, which caused tens of millions of people to switch to remote working, learning and shopping options, some analysts warned their big boom might be wearing itself out.

“Over the past few months we’ve had really quite a strong recovery, and that has started to stall,” Andrew Hunter, senior US economist at Capital Economics, told the Wall Street Journal.

However, not all economic news was dismal: the US Department of Labor announced on Thursday that about 70,000 fewer unemployment applications than expected had been filed in August - 880,000 instead of 950,000 - but a more widely anticipated jobs report on August is due to be released Friday, which could have an even greater effect on the markets.

Another U.S.-led Coalition Supply Convoy Targeted In Iraq

On August 3 afternoon, another logistical supply convoy of the U.S.-led coalition was targeted in the southern region of Iraq.

“An explosive device blew up targeting an international coalition supply convoy on the international highway linking Dhi Qar and Muthanna,” an Iraqi security source told the UAE-based al-Ain TV.

According to the source, the attack didn’t result in any casualties. The source declined to provide any further details on the attack.

Sabereen News, a Telegram channel close to Iraqi Shiite groups, said the convoy was targeted with an explosive device as well as a hand grenade. The channel also shared a video of the convoy prior to the attack.

This was the third such attack within the last 24 hours. Late on September 2, a supply convoy was targeted in the central province of Babylon. Early on September 3, a Katyusha rocket struck the headquarters of an Iraqi company working for the coalition in Baghdad International Airport.

Iraqi Shiite groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are reportedly behind the recent attacks on the U.S.-led coalition.

Shiite groups vowed to expel the U.S.-led coalition from Iraq following the assassination of Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units, earlier this year.

You’ve heard of the silent majority. It’s a very real body of voters that goes to work, raises their children, lives their everyday lives, and keeps to themselves. They don’t really speak out much but when it comes time to vote they’re heard loud and clear.

Most of these people vote Republican, and in the last presidential election, they spoke very, very loudly.

Research has shown us that this silent majority may have its own little sub-group called the “shy voter.” According to The Hill, it’s unusually quiet. Members of this sub-group don’t share their opinion at any time anywhere, oftentimes out of fear that if they do, they’ll face a load of trouble from an intolerant and emotionally driven opposition.

According to The Hill, CloudResearch took a poll and found some very interesting things about this “shy voter.” Like the silent majority, it’s a huge group of people, and also like the silent majority, it’s primarily looking to vote for Trump in the coming election:

To test this theory, CloudResearch recently sampled American voters in search of what they term “shy voters.” Their results show that Trump supporters were “significantly more reluctant to share their opinions on phone surveys compared to Biden supporters.” Almost 12 percent of Republicans and nearly 11 percent of Independents, were also almost twice as likely to be reticent than Democrats (about 5 percent).

These seemingly small percentages could have major November implications. For illustration of roughly how big, look at 2016 exit polling.

In the last presidential election, 36 percent of voters were Democrats, while 33 percent were Republicans and 31 percent were Independents. Applying CloudResearch’s “shy voter” percentages to each group yields 9 percent of the electorate as not giving their true candidate preferences.

However, those roughly one in 11 reticent voters are not, as CloudResearch discovered, evenly distributed between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Instead, they run about 2-to-1 in Trump’s favor. On the net, they come out to around a 3 percent hidden “Trump bump.”

At least they did not end on the LOD's-US equity market crashed most since March today (Nasdaq down 6% at its worst and The Dow down over 1000pts at its nadir). The S&P 500's longest streak of intraday all-time-highs since 1998 is now over. The dollar just sort of watched all of this and did nothing other than holding on to some slim gains-makes total sense that the real money (gold and silver) got it's customary paper dump early on but they tried to get some of it back later and did not do much after the initial dump down. Crypto's got slammed. This is increasing as well

August Employment Preview

On Friday at 8:30 AM ET, the BLS will release the employment report for August. The consensus is for an increase of 1.4 million non-farm payroll jobs, and for the unemployment rate to decrease to 9.8%. There will be at least two distortions to the August report. The decennial Census will add 237,800 temporary jobs (the jobs data should be reported ex-Census to show the underlying trend). Also, due to the delays in school openings, the usual number of educators were probably not hired in August. The BLS model will expect about 415,000 seasonal education jobs added in August. If fewer jobs are added, the BLS will report that education jobs were lost Seasonally Adjusted. For example, if only 115,000 jobs are added in August, then the BLS will report around 300 thousand education jobs lost.

JCPOA Signatories in Vienna Reject Snapback Sanctions on Iran

Hegemon USA increasingly finds itself isolated on the world stage.

On Tuesday, Joint Commission of the JCPOA signatories Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany and Iran met in Vienna, a statement by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov saying the following:

“We are witnessing an important process of consolidation of parties to the JCPOA against this American venture.”

“We are certain that the results of today’s event will help our colleagues in New York continue their work in the right direction.”

Ministers attending the meeting stressed the importance of preserving the landmark JCPOA agreement.

By abandoning it illegally in May 2018, the Trump regime has no say on matters relating to it.

Remaining P4+1 countries oppose imposing snapback sanctions on Iran, what the Trump regime vowed to do unilaterally in flagrant violation of the rule of law both wings of the US one-party state ignore with disturbing regularity.

Ryabkov stressed that

“(w)e are certain that if the international community and the UN Council members will continue to stick to principled positions on this issue, which is what we are working on, then the situation will emerge when the US will be alone in the UN Security Council with this paradoxical point of view.”

“At least, such a unique development seems rather likely.”

“Therefore, the US can end up losing a lot if it does not review its unfounded position and does not take obvious things into account.”

Ryabkov told other ministers of Vladimir Putin’s call for a Persian Gulf security summit, saying:

“The Russian delegation used the (Vienna meeting) to substantively deliver not only details of this proposal, but also to promote the colleagues’ understanding of the concept of collective security in the Persian Gulf area, which we put forward in an updated form last year.”

Following talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his German counterpart Heiko Maas before the Vienna meeting, both ministers agreed on the importance of preserving the JCPOA.

Maas stressed it at a Tuesday press conference. The Trump regime has no support for abandoning what’s affirmed by SC Res. 2231, making the JCPOA binding international law.

Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif earlier denounced the US for being an “unreliable partner that is violating all legal norms and doesn’t abide by its obligations.”

Facebook, Twitter seek to limit spread of Trump remarks on voting twice to test system

Facebook and Twitter both took steps Thursday to limit the spread of remarks by President Trump encouraging voters to test the system by voting twice — by mail and in person.

In a local TV interview in Wilmington, N.C., Wednesday, Trump suggested that people should vote twice, which is illegal.

He then made similar remarks to a crowd of supporters at the Wilmington airport.

Facebook announced it would take down videos of the interview if the posts did not "correct the record" on voter fraud.

It also a labeled a post from the president where he made a similar, although not identical claim.

In the post, Trump said that voters should mail in ballots and then go to your polling location on election day and see whether or not the mail-in ballot has been tabulated.

"If it has you will not be able to Vote & the Mail In System worked properly," he wrote. "If it has not been Counted, VOTE (which is a citizen’s right to do)."

As part of the policy update that Facebook rolled out earlier Thursday, the post was appended with a label saying that according to the Bipartisan Policy Center, "voting by mail has a long history of trustworthiness in the US and the same is predicted this year."

The label links to Facebook's Voting Information Center, which contains information about elections from vetted sources.

Trump posted the same message on Twitter Thursday.

The tweets, encouraging people to vote twice, were determined to have violated the platform's rules about civic and election integrity.

While the tweets were kept up to serve "the public's interest" the ability to like or retweet them was removed.

North Carolina officials will begin sending absentee ballots to voters who have requested them on Friday. North Carolina represents a key swing state in the 2020 election.

Following Trump’s remarks, Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the North Carolina state board of elections, issued a statement emphasizing that it illegal in the state to vote or attempt to vote twice in an election.

Arsonist Who Threw Molotov Cocktail Into Missouri Planned Parenthood Clinic Sentenced To Prison

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Columbia, Missouri, man was sentenced in federal court today for the arson at the Columbia Health Center (operated by Planned Parenthood Great Plains).

“This defendant’s criminal behavior placed the community in an unacceptable risk of danger,” Garrison said. “We will not tolerate the use of violence and arson as a means to achieve personal political or policy goals. This attack is the antithesis of everything for which the best ideals of this nation have always stood.

“The FBI special agents on this difficult case exemplified outstanding investigative skills in locating and evaluating the evidence that enabled us to identify the arsonist and quickly bring him to justice,” Garrison added.

Wesley Brian Kaster, 43, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes to five years in federal prison without parole.

On Nov. 21, 2019, Kaster pleaded guilty to one count of maliciously using explosive materials to damage a building owned by an organization that receives federal financial assistance, and one count of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Kaster has remained in federal custody without bond since his arrest on March 2, 2019.

Kaster admitted that he manufactured a Molotov cocktail on Feb. 10, 2019. On the same day, he broke the glass in the north entry door of the Columbia Health Center at 711 N. Providence Road and threw the Molotov cocktail into the facility. At approximately 4:10 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department arrived on the scene, investigated the damage caused by the explosive device, and collected evidence. Kaster admitted that he took these actions because Planned Parenthood provided reproductive health services at the facility.

This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. Oliver. It was investigated by the Columbia, Mo., Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the FBI.

As Congress Wrestles With Stimulus Bill, Government Shutdown Looms

A perfect storm is about to hit Congress and Congress isn’t ready.

There is a chance that negotiations could restart for a coronavirus relief bill. With the presidential race tightening up, Democrats are beginning to worry that their obstructionist policies might not play as well in November as they thought when they had a clear lead in the polls.

Then, they didn’t think they needed a bill. But the situation is changing rapidly and the Democrats may see an advantage in striking a quick deal.

But while Congress is wrestling with the stimulus bill, they’re also going to have to do something to keep the government fully funded after September 30. That too will require careful political calculation.

CNN:

Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that Democratic leaders are discussing proposing a continuing resolution that would expire in mid-March. That would potentially allow a President Biden and Senate Democrats to play a major role in the next round of government funding shortly after taking office, assuming their party wins this fall.

But a senior Democratic aide told CNN the party leadership has not had in-depth discussions about the length of the stop-gap measure and “no decisions have been made.”

The political calculus is in the timing of the stop-gap measure.

The White House has informed lawmakers that it wants a stop-gap measure to keep the government afloat until mid-December during the lame-duck session of Congress, sources said. That would ensure the current Congress — with the Senate controlled by Republicans and the House run by Democrats — would have to approve a bill and get it signed by President Donald Trump even if he loses the election.

But a longer stop-gap measure into next year, known as a continuing resolution, could be more beneficial to Democrats if Joe Biden wins the presidency and if their party wins back the Senate in November.

The stakes are higher for Republicans, even if Trump wins re-election. It’s the difference between having a big influence on the continuing resolution in December or little or no influence in March if Democrats take control of the Senate.

It’s probable that some kind of pandemic relief will be included in the government funding measure.

Once the GOP stimulus plan stalls in the Senate, then talks over government funding are bound to intensify and will likely center around the length of the stop-gap measure and whether it should include economic relief like an extension of jobless benefits, aid to schools and rental assistance for people facing eviction — or if it should be free of any of those items.

Both sides insist they don’t want the government to shut down and are hopeful a deal to keep agencies funded can be reached before they run out of money on Oct. 1.

The October deadline is more than a paper deadline. All 435 congressmen and a third of the Senate need to campaign. The longer they’re stuck in Washington to deal with the shutdown threat, the antsier they’ll get. It’s likely that some kind of a short-term deal will be reached before September 30.

Josh, Jonathan and David Cartu, previously sued in Canada, are charged by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission with ‘targeting and victimizing US residents’

The CFTC civil complaint alleges that for at least five years — from May 1, 2013, through April 29, 2018 — Canadian-Israeli brothers David Cartu, Jonathan Cartu and Joshua Cartu, and Canadian-Israeli brothers Leeav Peretz and Nati Peretz, operated call centers primarily located in Israel that “targeted and victimized U.S. residents” through an online trading scam.

The CFTC also sued Ryan Masten, a Texas-based business associate of the other defendants, as well as four companies belonging to the defendants, All Out Marketing Limited, BareIt Media LLC d/b/a SignalPush, Blue Moon Investments Ltd., and Orlando Union Inc.

“The Cartu Brothers, acting in concert with Defendants Leeav Peretz and Nati Peretz, offered illegal, off-exchange binary option trading on currency pairs, oil, and other commodities on internet websites through customer-facing brands they owned and operated including ‘BeeOptions,’ ‘Glenridge Capital,’ and ‘Rumelia,’ reads the complaint.

The complaint accuses the defendants and their employees of promising investors quick returns even though most investors actually lost their money. It accuses them of allegedly misrepresenting their business model, saying that their interests were aligned with those of their investors when in fact they were not. Employees also allegedly lied about their professional expertise, their identity and location.

“On the Cartu Brands’ websites and in emails, telephone calls, and other communications with customers and prospective customers, the Cartu Brothers, Peretz Brothers, and the individual brokers promised ‘quick’ returns of ‘60-85%,’” reads the complaint, “even though the substantial majority of customers lost money. They falsely stated that the interests of the Cartu Brands were aligned with the interest of customers and failed to disclose that the Cartu Brands (and the Cartu Brothers and Peretz Brothers themselves) profited from customer losses. Further, at the direction of the Cartu Brothers and Peretz Brothers, the brokers misrepresented their financial expertise, compensation structure, physical location, and identity.”

According to the complaint, Jonathan Cartu and his brothers began their allegedly fraudulent binary options business in April 2013, with a binary options website called BeeOptions that “operated out of a conference room in the offices of an Israeli-based gaming company owned by Josh and David.”

“The NSW strategy of seeking to keep cases down to a manageable level is also dangerous, because the longer the virus is in the community, the greater the risk of breakouts requiring lockdowns to be reimposed to prevent hospitals being overwhelmed,” they said.

“That’s a ‘yo-yo’ strategy – the economy could be seized with uncertainty as businesses open, close, open, and close again.”

The report says Victoria, NSW, and Queensland could instead eliminate the virus if Victorian endured another eight weeks of lockdown.

“There should be no easing until daily new cases are below 20, then further easing when the numbers fall to five, and again at zero,” it reads.

“A successful national campaign to get to zero and stay there would enable all restrictions to be eased other than international quarantine, while the quest for a vaccine continues. Australia should go for zero, because the pay-off will be worth it.”

Rochester Mayor Suspends 7 Cops Involved In Killing Of Daniel Prude

Hours after Gov Cuomo demanded "answers" and called for the state AG's investigation into the killing of Daniel Prude to wrap up as quickly as possible, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, has suspended seven officers involved in the deadly confrontation.

“You can not stand around and allow these types of things to happen, you have a duty,” according to the AP.

The AG's office took over the investigation back in April, long before the Prude family went public with their claims during a Wednesday press conference, which also involved releasing never-before-seen bodycamera footage of the incident that led to Prude's death seven days later.

Prude, 41, died March on 30 while still in the hospital one week after police put a "spit hood" over his head and pressed his face into the pavement for two minutes, cutting off his ability to breath and leading to brain damage. He was the loving father of five adult children, and was known to have some mental health issues, though he was generally regarded as harmless. These hoods have been blamed for the deaths of several prisoners in recent years.

"Rell", as he was known to family, had just arrived on Rochester for a visit with family. His brother called the police after Rell started acting erratically one night. The man took off his clothes and was running around naked in the street.

Activists have demanded that the officers involved be suspended, fired and/or charged for murder.

The local medical examiner has concluded that Prude’s death was a "homicide caused by complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint.” The report lists 'excited delirium and acute intoxication' by PCP as a contributing factor.

Facebook’s New Terms Of Service Update Sounds A Lot Like Censorship

Many Facebook users have been receiving notifications from Facebook stating that on Oct. 1, 2020, they will be updating their Terms of Service. The new changes will allow Facebook to remove content or restrict access if the company feels it is necessary to avoid legal or regulatory impact.

Desktop and mobile users were receiving notifications that looked like this:

Effective October 1, 2020, section 3.2 of our Terms of Service will be updated to include: “We also can remove or restrict access to your content, services or information if we determine that doing so is reasonably necessary to avoid or mitigate adverse legal or regulatory impacts to Facebook.”

Users of social media have been rather critical of the recent updates, feeling that it may lead to more censorship or election meddling from big tech companies. Other users feel this could be a great move to get rid of more fake news.

Before we move on, don’t get me wrong, fake news exists, and is a problem. I have spoken to many other website owners within the independent media community over the years, urging them to take a deeper look at some of the stories they put out and ask whether they are actually true. People can do poor research at times, and they can miss important facts. At other times, some websites seek only to make money and thus they post anything that will get them traffic, even if it’s false.

That said, much of independent media has been falsely lumped in with those unique cases, making us seem guilty by association as opposed to actually creating false news. We have had this experience ourselves.
