First week or September - huge collection of links to articles about crimes against children - most w/ two sources.

Throughout August I compiled a huge list of links related to crimes against children. I did this because the national news media has been referring to the #SaveOurChildren movement as a “QAnon Conspiracy.” Much of the media coverage has suggested that we “are misrepresenting the fact that there are many times of trafficking and abuse and not just one” or even more ridiculously, “only care about white kids.”

While I know that “we” [as people interested in the health, safety, and justice of children] are very aware that these tragedies happen in many forms, it is sometimes hard to elaborate on those thoughts or back them up against someone who is dead-set on calling you a “conspiracy theorist.” The number of news stories downplaying the plight of children as a “QAnon Conspiracy” is disgusting and disheartening.

Consider how many politicians, celebrities, billionaires, etc. have been convicted of crimes against children [and how many more are suspected and/or have somehow escaped justice] and then consider how they are all linked to the mainstream media that is owned by only six parent companies. Their money is intertwined and they will do anything to protect their assets.

I am going to attempt to start collecting stories on a weekly basis for updates going forward while the media is still in attack mode against us. These are from the first six days of September.

But the abuse, trafficking, pornography, is “Just a conspiracy.” Right.

“This project will help save the lives of Belarusians by providing critical equipment to the health sector,” said Alex Kremer, World Bank Country Manager. “It will have the most impact when combined with social distancing measures, including preventing large gatherings, reducing physical presence in workplaces and educational establishments, and reducing non-essential movements, all of which will save lives and help mitigate longer-term economic impacts. The earlier such measures are implemented, the better the outcomes for people’s lives and livelihoods.”

The project will also strengthen public health laboratories and epidemiological capacity for early detection, confirmation, and reporting of cases. It will finance medical supplies and equipment to help detect COVID-19, including testing kits, personal protective equipment, laboratory reagents, and training. In addition, the project will help with the acquisition and distribution of modern ambulances and essential ambulance equipment.

This project complements longer-term World Bank support to Belarus’ health systems, including the ongoing Belarus Health Systems Modernization Project, and a potential future project to support hospital consolidation and long-term care that has been requested by the Government of Belarus.

Since the Republic of Belarus joined the World Bank in 1992, lending commitments to the country have totaled $1.9 billion. The active investment lending portfolio financed by the World Bank in Belarus includes nine projects totaling $942.71 million.

The World Bank Group, one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries, is taking broad, fast action to help developing countries strengthen their pandemic response. We are supporting public health interventions, working to ensure the flow of critical supplies and equipment, and helping the private sector continue to operate and sustain jobs. We will be deploying up to $160 billion in financial support over 15 months to help more than 100 countries protect the poor and vulnerable, support businesses, and bolster economic recovery. This includes $50 billion of new IDA resources through grants and highly concessional loans.

A legal foundation has filed two court briefs that assert that double voting by the thousands happened in 2016-2018 in Georgia and North Carolina, as the nation prepares for its first large-scale, mail-in balloting to elect a president.

Anti-universal mail ballot activists say the two states are a tip-off for what will happen in the Nov. 3 election.

Liberal journalists demand that the Trump administration, which opposes mass-mailed ballots in most states, provide evidence of fraud. The counterargument is that it is difficult to cite such examples when only a handful of states before 2020 adopted remote voting.

Those unique balloting procedures painstakingly took years to perfect the checks and balances needed to avoid doubling voting. Today, because of the coronavirus pandemic, 22 states are fast-tracking the shift from in-person voting and toward the U.S. Postal Service, according to Ballotpedia.

Experts estimate that 80 million Americans will vote by mail in the 2020 general elections, about double those in 2016, when a total of 138 million people cast ballots in person or from afar.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) has investigated instances in which fraud already may have occurred.

Clark County, Nevada’s largest, decided to switch to mail-in ballots just two months before its June primary. The result: nearly 225,000 of 1.3 million mailed ballots (17.3%) were sent back by the Postal Service as undeliverable. Only 305,000 mail-in ballots (23.5%) were accepted and counted, according to numbers provided to PILF.

Texas AG: The State May Take Over Austin's Police To Prevent Defunding

Citizens around the country are hurriedly working out ways to try and prevent their local police from falling victim to the ridiculous demands of "defunding" being pushed by Marxist social justice groups and socialist politicians across the country.

The Texas Attorney General appears to have come up with one such solution: enact legislation that puts Austin's police under state control.

Governor Greg Abbott is considering the legislation, according to Attorney General Ken Paxton. The move comes in response to Austin's Mayor, Steve Adler, seeking to defund $150 million from the Austin Police Department.

Paxton told Fox News: "That makes little to no sense and makes our city less safe. We can fund the police in a way that will keep the city safe, which is what we all want."

Abbott Tweeted about the proposal late last week: “We can't let Austin's defunding & disrespect for law enforcement to endanger the public & invite chaos like in Portland and Seattle."

Mayor Steve Adler has blamed President Trump for the unrest in the city. The city's council issued a vote of "no confidence" in the city's police leadership back in June to try and spur changes to end police violence against people of color - none of which appeared to be an issue in Austin.

"I think they're appeasing left-wing radicals who think this is a good idea," Paxton concluded.

The US and NATO air forces have not only boosted their surveillance activities along Russia’s borders, but now also increasingly train for potential strikes on the country’s soil, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said.

Speaking to Russian TV on Sunday, Shoigu noted a sharp increase in foreign surveillance and training flights testing the country's borders and air defenses. Last month such activities increased by some 30 percent compared to last August. Moreover, the bloc’s aircraft have been actively training in conducting air strikes , routinely performing mock missile launches on targets within the country, Shoigu revealed.

The most alarming is that if earlier – even though not that frequently – there were mainly reconnaissance aircraft, they’ve now begun regular training flights with large numbers of planes, during which the mock missile strikes are conducted.

Over the past few weeks, several incidents between Russian and NATO planes occurred in close proximity to the country’s borders. The latest took place Friday, when three nuclear-capable US Air Force B-52H strategic bombers approached Russia’s border through Ukrainian airspace. The bombers were intercepted by eight fighter jets and warned away from the border.

Another incident involving US strategic bombers occurred late in August, when a B-52H was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 fighter jet over the Baltic Sea. The altercation prompted a wider international scandal, as another NATO country – Denmark – claimed the Russian plane violated the country’s borders while chasing the US plane. Moscow, however, has firmly denied the accusations, insisting that the interception was made in accordance with all international rules.

California governor declares emergency as military helicopters rescue 200 people trapped by raging wildfires

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in five counties as fast-moving wildfires continue to threaten lives and houses. Amid an unprecedented heat wave grid operators also warned of possible outages.

The emergency was announced in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, according to a late Sunday declaration.

The move was prompted by a massive Creek Fire, which consumed over 18,000 hectares over the weekend, cutting off roads and forcing evacuations in Fresno. With some 15,000 firefighters battling the blaze it was still raging virtually uncontained by Sunday afternoon.

California Governor Declares State of Emergency In 5 Counties

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom today issued an emergency proclamation for the counties of Fresno, Madera and Mariposa due to the Creek Fire; for San Bernardino County due to the El Dorado Fire; and for San Diego County due to the Valley Fire. The fires have burned tens of thousands of acres, destroyed homes and caused the evacuation of thousands of residents.

Governor Newsom has declared a statewide emergency due to the widespread fires and extreme weather conditions, and secured a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to bolster the state’s emergency response to the Northern California wildfires. California has also secured Fire Management Assistance Grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to support the state’s response to fires burning in Santa Clara, Stanislaus, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Napa, Nevada, Lake, Solano, Yolo and Monterey counties.

(NEWSER) – A US Navy sailor went missing from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the North Arabian Sea on Sunday, CNN and ABC News report. After a search onboard the ship didn't locate the sailor, a man overboard was called. The guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton has joined in the search and rescue operation. The Nimitz deployed to the Pacific and the Middle East in late April.

Anon knows there are many here who have made a study of 9-11 a priority. It is for this anon too. The reason I bring this up is because of what I remember about Biden answering questions from the media right after the attacks. Seems like, and my memory is a little fuzzy on this, but seems like it was a question from a TV reporter in the halls outside the US Senate chamber. Child 'SHOT' on way to school in England

A school has been put into lockdown as police hunt for a suspected gunman after reports of a Year 11 pupil has been injured in a shooting as they made their way to lessons.

Officers have swarmed the area following reports of a gunshot in Kesgrave, near Ipswich.

In a post on Twitter Kesgrave High School said one of its students had been involved in a 'serious incident'.

A mother posted on Facebook saying something 'major' has happened on Grange Farm and that 'lots of people were screaming' with one lady saying 'run, someone has been shot.'

The incident reportedly involves a Year 11 pupil who was on their way to school at the time.

Suffolk Constabulary said in a statement: 'Police are currently at the scene of a serious incident in Kesgrave.

'Officers were called just after 8.40am, Monday 7 September, to reports of a shooting in Grange Farm.

'Friends Walk and Through Jollys are completely closed off at present and there is a partial closure on Ropes Drive. Members of the public are asked to avoid these areas.

'Any witnesses, or anyone with information about this incident, is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting reference CAD 58 of 7 September.'

In the aftermath a mother wrote on Facebook: 'My daughter and friends were walking to school and heard what sounded exactly like a gunshot.

'Then lots of people screaming and a lady saying 'run, someone has been shot'.

'I had four terrified children come running back to mine. There are now at least four police cars lined up outside the road involved. Stay safe everyone.'

According to the Ipswich Star, the headteacher of Kesgrave High School, Julia Upton, sent an email confirming the incident involved one of its Year 11 pupils 'on their way to school'.

The message reportedly said: 'We have been made aware by the police that there has been a serious incident involving one of our Year 11 students on their way to school.

'Students in school are safe and we are managing the situation in constant close communication with the police.

'Students are to remain in school, and will be kept safe in liaison with police.

'Police will be present in the area and around the school throughout the school day.

'At the present time we are expecting students to be dismissed at the end of the school, day at 3.20pm as normal.'

An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed on a grass area and took off just before 10am.

A land ambulance is also at the scene, along with a number of police cars.

Suffolk Constabulary confirmed this morning that one person has been shot in a serious incident.

Dave Sunderland said he had been wearing Donald Trump hats to work at Newport News Shipbuilding every day for nearly four years.

He wore them — most recently one that said “Trump 2020″— from his car to his work site inside the gates, he said, and sometimes for a short safety meeting at the start of his shift.

Not anymore.

Sunderland, 55, was fired last week after refusing to remove his hat before the safety meeting. He said the human resources department told him he violated a policy barring yard workers from “campaigning” while on the job.

“Fenbendazole is a dog dewormer, while humans take mebendazole or albendazole. Their basic action is the same. The drug (fenbendazole) was developed in the early 1970s and has been proven to be safe for 40 years,” Kim said in the video.

It was safe to use the high dose of fenbendazole because patients in the past took high doses of mebendazole, up to 2,000-3,000 mg for more than three weeks, when parasites were found in the brain, Kim went on to say.

She also detailed the amount of fenbendazole to take and the medication schedule for those who benefited from taking the drug.

To increase the absorption rate, patients should take the drug immediately after meals or take the deworming pill with 60-100cc olive oil so that bile can be secreted.

Kim’s video in three parts hit 60,000-180,000 views as of 3:00 p.m., Monday. Viewers left more than 500 comments on the videos, mostly thanking her for speaking up for cancer patients.

SMYRNA, Ga. — No injuries were reported from a fire in the switchyard at Georgia Power's Plant McDonough, the power utility said in a statement early Monday morning.

Full details remain limited, however, between 11:20 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Sunday, there were multiple reports online of fire and at least four loud explosions coming from the power plant in Cobb County near the Chattahoochee River.

Multiple photos on social media showed a smoke plume visible from miles away. Other reports described the smoke plume and the explosions, along with flickering power from parts of the surrounding area.

"There were four explosions total," Shelby Watson said on Twitter. "The first and the strongest shook our home violently."

According to a statement from Georgia Power, the large plume of smoke was due to a transformer fire that was contained within the switchyard at Plant McDonough.

"There is no fire inside the plant structure itself," the statement from Georgia power read. "There are no known injuries and the fire department is on-site."

Georgia Power added that the safety of its facilities and employees is a top priority and that it is monitoring the situation.

SAN JUAN — Juan Ernesto Dávila, president of the Puerto Rico State Elections Commission (CEE by its Spanish initials) resigned on Thursday, effective immediately, in the midst of criticism of his performance during the botched local primaries.

“Effective immediately, I resign as president of the State Elections Commission. The well-being of my family, friends, and church brothers led me to make this decision. I pray to the Lord for the common good of Puerto Rico, the CEE, and the electoral commissioners,” Dávila said in a written statement received by The Americano.

On Aug. 9, voting on the primaries had to be stopped after polling statinos opened late or not at all because of a lack of sufficient ballots in nearly 50 of 78 municipalities on the island. The United States Supreme Court decided that a second round of voting for the primaries would take place on Aug. 16.

Since then, politicians from the incumbent New Progressive Party (PNP by its Spanish initials) — including Gov. Wanda Vázquez — and the opposing Popular Democratic Party (PPD by its Spanish initials), as well as the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP by its Spanish initials), and Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana have demanded Dávila’s resignation.

The now-former president of the CEE had previously stated, after the first round of primaries, that he would resign after the electoral event. But after the second round of primaries, he did not mention resigning even though some electoral commissioners were still demanding he step down.

Earlier this week, the PNP completed its primary vote count. The PPD has said that they will finish counting their primary votes this week, blaming Dávila for the delay, which, according to the party, could affect the general election on Nov. 3.

"YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO FILM!" is a cry you hear incessantly at protests in Portland, Oregon, always shouted at close range to your face by after-dark demonstrators. You can assert that, yes, you can film; you can point out that they themselves are filming incessantly; you can push their hands away from covering your phone; you can have your phone record them stealing your phone—all of these things have happened to me—and none will have any impact on their contention that "YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO FILM" and its occasional variation, "PHOTOGRAPHY EQUALS DEATH!"

I cannot say who came up with these anti-camera battle cries. But it's easy to understand why protesters use them: to shape the narrative the country sees about the protests. And that narrative, in my estimation after many weeks covering street clashes in a city where I lived for 15 years, is 90 percent bullshit.

I wondered, the first time I attended the protests at the federal building back in July, who all these young people with PRESS emblazoned on their jackets or helmets were. I asked one such guy who he worked for.

"Independent Press Corps," he told me. As it turned out, dozens of other young PRESS people happened to work for the same outfit, which I at first assumed was a fancy way of saying "I want to report stuff and stream it on my Instagram."

This turned out to be naive. The IPC is an organized group in league with the activists, and it is usually their footage you see streamed online and recycled on the news: mostly innocent protestors being harassed and beaten by police.

The police indeed have tear-gassed and beaten people; there has been brutality. It is equally true, but featured less prominently in the news coverage, that activists spend hours every night menacing and setting fires to police stations and other institutions: City Hall, Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters, and last week Mayor Ted Wheeler's apartment building (until he agreed to move out).

With the PRESS crew recording part of the story and the "YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO FILM!" crew harassing other journalists, the result can be a misleading view of the protests. It's a revolution via the cellphone video they allow you to see.

The IPC and other documentarians who are deemed sympathetic to the activists' cause agree on certain principles. You do not show activists' faces. You only show activists in a defensive position: responding to, rather than inciting, violence. You enhance what can appear to be police brutality, e.g., activists defending themselves with homemade shields, often bearing the anarchist circle-A, against police. The shields are largely ineffective for personal defense, but extremely effective for optics, and that's precisely the point. If a member of the IPC is arrested, he or she will be protected.

Reporters seen as not sufficiently sympathetic to the cause—which is defined by the Ten Demands for Justice, and includes most notably the abolition of the police—will be followed, be harassed, have their notes photographed and their phones blocked or stolen. (All these things have happened to me in the last month. A photographer friend has been repeatedly doxxed and placed on a list of "enemies.")

If you forget any of these rules, you can just refer to the handy Google spreadsheet* of approved journalists and suggested behavior. The spreadsheet contains names, Twitter handles, and ways to financially support the journos who make the cut.

Note who the people on this activist-approved list are writing for. Sergio Olmos, who made IPC's list of approved journalists, is freelancing as a man on the ground for The New York Times.* Freelancer Robert Evans, whose early tick-tock of events on the ground I have admired, tweeted on July 19 that the burning of the Portland Police Association was "the single biggest win so far." When questioned why, he replied that protesters have been "tear-gassed and beaten" for weeks.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — More and more questions have accumulated following the announcement that Oregon State Police troopers had been deputized by U.S. Marshals.

The move, which was made in response to the growing unrest in Portland, means a deputized OSP trooper can arrest someone for a federal crime and turn the case over to a federal prosecutor instead of a state prosecutor.

Doing so would essentially override Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Shmidt’s policy of limited prosecution for certain charges related to the ongoing protests. Last month, Schmidt’s office announced charges such as Interfering with a Police Officer or Criminal Trespass would not be prosecuted and people arrested for those crimes would be quickly released.

Lewis & Clark Law Professor Tung Yin said the workaround could spell more federal crimes coming out of the protests.

“Even if DA Mike Schmidt is taking a hands off approach of, ‘Well, I’m not going to prosecute that case,’ that person, theoretically, could face federal charges,” said Yin.

There are some cases of overlap between state and federal charges, however, OSP troopers cannot suddenly turn a state charge into a federal offense.

Oregon State Police troopers responding to the ongoing protest-related unrest in Portland have been federally deputized, state police confirm.

State police tell KOIN 6 News they’re working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to review arrests made by troopers assigned to Portland for potential prosecution. The troopers assigned to Portland have been cross-deputized by the U.S. Marshals.

The Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt previously announced his office would presumptively decline to prosecute certain misdemeanor charges stemming from the protests, a move which resulted in criticism from law enforcement agencies, including state police in mid-August.

CCSO, WSCO won’t send deputies to quell Portland violence

“OSP is not criticizing any officials and we respect the authority of the [Multnomah County] District Attorney, but to meet the Governor’s charge of bringing violence to an end we will use all lawful methods at our disposal,” an Oregon State Police spokesperson said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s office said some troopers were federally deputized earlier this summer in order to enter the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse, which had been the epicenter of protests for the first two months.

“They are committed to working with our community, with the goal of protecting free speech, keeping the peace, and keeping people safe as they exercise their right to peacefully protest,” the spokesperson said in a statement, adding, “The U.S. Attorney and Multnomah County D.A. work together every day deciding which cases each will prosecute.”

The news of state police troopers being deputized by U.S. Marshals, which was first reported by freelance journalist Deborah Bloom, came a day after sheriffs from surrounding counties declined to send in deputies to help Multnomah County and the Portland Police Bureau after Gov. Brown outlined a law enforcement plan to respond to the unrest.

One person was shot and killed Saturday night near a pro-Trump caravan rally and counterprotest in downtown Portland, bringing a renewed spotlight on the city that has seen more than 90 days of consecutive protests and hundreds of resulting arrests.

Surveillance Camera Captures 'Huge Pile Of Mail' Dumped In California Parking Lots

Several bags of mail were dumped in two Glendale, California parking lots, with one dumping caught by a surveillance camera, according to KTLA.

The second incident was captured on video outside 7Q Spa Laser & Aesthetics.

"It happened early in the morning, 5:40, and it was a Budget rental, big truck, that backed up to the parking lot. And they’re like, slowly, one by one, they’re dropping the packages," said Lilia Serobian, one of the owners of the spa, adding that the "huge pile" contained various sizes of packages, and all of it was US mail.

According to the report, a spa employee found the pile of boxes and envelopes in the parking lot, after which police were called to the scene. A USPS manager collected the mail.

More U.S. mail was found in an alley less than a mile away from the spa, according to police. It was not immediately clear whether both piles were dumped by the same truck.

Postal Service investigators are looking into the dumping incidents, Glendale police said.

Inspectors will try to determine which post office — and specifically what route— the mail came from, as well as who rented the truck. -KTLA

The report comes amid a national dialogue over mail-in ballots for November's election - with President Trump and his allies repeatedly claiming that the process would be tainted by corruption and cause huge delays.

"If you do universal mail-ins with millions and millions of ballots, you are never going to know what the real result of an election is," Trump said last month, adding "It's going to be a very, very sad day for our country."

‘Threat to ALL journalists’? Facebook temporarily DISABLES account of reporter who livestreamed armed groups in Louisville

Facebook suddenly disabled the account of video journalist Ford Fischer as he was covering armed protests on Saturday in Louisville, raising fears that Big Tech censors are classifying newsgathering as incitement to violence.

"I am a journalist, verified on Facebook," Fischer wrote on Saturday evening on his Twitter account. "Today I spent the entire day covering various armed groups throughout Louisville. As I just finished a livestream, I tried to log in and it appears Facebook deleted my account."

Fischer, co-founder of News2Share, was unable to get an explanation as he followed up with the social media behemoth until his account was restored without comment on Sunday evening.

Before the fix, when trying to access his account, he got a notice saying it had been disabled and invited him to visit the "help center" if he thought it was shut down by mistake.

I'm honestly so shocked at the lack of explanation... I have no idea what happened or why they would do this.

Fischer had been posting a series of videos showing clashes between armed right-wing demonstrators and Black Lives Matter counter-protesters, some of whom also had guns, when his account was shut down.

He said his last post before the shutdown showed protesters holding firearms and had a caption with Fischer commenting on his concerns that some of the individuals weren't handling their guns safely.

"Wildfire Crisis" - Record-Breaking Heat Sparks 23 Fires, Rolling Blackouts Across Golden State

As of Monday morning on the West Coast, at least 15,000 firefighters were battling 23 wildfires raging across the Golden State, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).

Of these, three were deemed "major blazes", burning in Fresno, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties.

On Sunday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in San Diego, San Bernardino, Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa countries, the worst-affected by what's shaping up to be another brutal wildfire season, exacerbated by a shortage of prisoners to press into service fighting the blazes.

But in his speech, Newsom prattled on about "the realities of climate change".

"California has always been the canary in the coal mine for climate change, and this weekend's events only underscore that reality," Newsom said. "Wildfires have caused system failures, while near-record energy demand is predicted as a multi-state heatwave hits the West Coast for the second time in a matter of weeks."

Newsom also spoke about the record-high temperatures on Saturday, which were piling on the pressure to the state's power grid.

"Californians are rising to the occasion to meet these unprecedented challenges for our energy grid, and I want to thank all of the businesses and individuals who are conserving energy. Californians should heed (California Independent System Operator's) warnings and flex their power to shift energy consumption to earlier in the day."

The heatwave added fuel to the wildfires and strained electrical grids, though rolling blackouts weren't as massive as the ones seen in August. As of Monday morning, 50,000 homes and businesses had no power, according to Poweroutage.US.

The 2020 wildfire season has been busy; nearly two million acres have been burnt since the season began, with more than 7,448 confirmed wildfires and upwards of 4,000 structures damaged or destroyed.

This comes at a precarious time for California, as budgetary constraints from the virus-induced downturn, along with the threat by President Trump to defund liberal-run cities, the state could be on the verge of disaster.

Democrats are using US Military funded artificial intelligence software to combat American citizens’online efforts to promote President Trump.

A new Democratic-aligned political action committee advised by retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the former head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, is planning to deploy technology originally developed to counter Islamic State propaganda in service of a domestic political goal – to combat online efforts to promote President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The group, Defeat Disinfo, will use artificial intelligence and network analysis to map discussion of the president’s claims on social media. It will seek to intervene by identifying the most popular counter-narratives and boosting them through a network of more than 3.4 million influencers across the country – in some cases paying users with large followings to take sides against the president.

The initiative reflects fears within the Democratic Party that Trump’s unwavering digital army may help sustain him through the pandemic, as it has through past controversies, even as the economy craters, tens of thousands have died, and Trump suffers in the polls.

“It’s often said campaigns are a battle of ideas, but they’re really a battle of narratives,” said David Eichenbaum, a Democratic media consultant who is a senior adviser to the PAC. “Today those narratives spread quickly online.”

The initiative is run by Curtis Hougland, whose received initial funding for the technology from DARPA, the Pentagon’s research arm, as part of an effort to combat extremism overseas. He insists Democrats are ill-prepared for the looming battle over information and attention, which is bound to play an outsize role in November.

Three major wildfires are burning tens of thousands of acres in California right now

More than 500 firefighters, 60 fire engines, and four helicopters have been deployed to a massive fire in Southern California. The huge inferno, dubbed the El Dorado Fire, was caused by a pyrotechnic device used at a gender-reveal party.

The gender-reveal party was held in El Dorado Ranch Park, and the fire began at 10:23 a.m. Saturday. The couple, and possibly some other friends and family, went to a grassy field at El Dorado Ranch Park, to announce the gender of their baby, Cal Fire Capt. Bennett Milloy told KTVU. They used a cylindrical device to send up either pink or blue smoke, and reveal the sex, he said. But the spectacle created a fire, which the couple tried to douse with their own water bottles, he said.

The blaze quickly spread from the park to Yucaipa Ridge, which separates Mountain Home Village, and Forest Falls from Yucaipa. As of Monday morning, the massive inferno had burned 7,386 acres and was only 7% was contained, according to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

"CAL FIRE Law Enforcement has determined the El Dorado Fire, burning near Oak Glen in San Bernardino County, was caused by a smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party," the agency stated.

"Those responsible for starting fires due to negligence or illegal activity can be held financially responsible and criminally responsible," Cal Fire said.

Most Americans – probably the vast majority – have very little idea what the United States Supreme Court really does. Sure, whenever the High Court issues a ruling on an abortion case or decides a matter involving the Second Amendment, the media is all over it and the public becomes aware that the Court is there. Following our Thursday report identifying SoftBank as the primary - but not only - catalyst behind the bizarre moves in high beta tech names and the broader market over the past several weeks (confirmed later by the FT and WSJ) In History" with subsequent reports that SoftBank, or the "Nasdaq whale" as some now call it was sitting on "unbooked" profits of about $4 billion, the market was quick to punish SoftBank (9984.JT) which dropped on Friday then tumbled another 7% on Monday despite what the company has been proud to frequently remind its investors was the second biggest buyback authorization after Apple'''. There were two reasons cited for the drop: the first was the realization that "SoftBank’s behaviour as a company increasingly resembled that of a hedge fund, populated with former investment bankers with a massive appetite for risk." This realization was assisted by our weekend report which revealed the main players behind the Softbank trade, which was the brainchild of Abu Dhabi-based Akshay Naheta, a former Deutsche Bank prop trader who now heads SoftBank's new asset management team which invests in public equities, including all those tech companies that have soared in August on the massive gamma melt-up facilitated by concurrent call buying as described previously.

The second reason cited by the FT for today's tumble is that "retail investors, which make up 30 per cent of SoftBank’s shareholder registry, reacted particularly negatively to the company’s latest shift in investment strategy."

Which is understandable: while it is known that SoftBank has made a roughly 100% profit generating $4 billion in profits from the purchase of $4 billion in option premium, it was generally unknown if the bank can hold on to this profit, or in other words if it can book it before dealers move the market aggressively against SoftBank, potentially leading to all gains being wiped out and/or losses. Indeed, this is what the FT reported just this morning: While SoftBank’s huge derivatives bet on selected US stocks has worked for now, leaving the Japanese group with large, albeit as yet unrealised, profits, a continued pullback in equity markets could erode returns. Well, it appears that in keeping with its newly-found reputation of a hedge fund, and contrary to widespread speculation that the Japanese conglomerate is still on the hook, SoftBank has already unwound a majority of its public holdings. We know this thanks to a little-noticed conference call that took place in late August, days before we revealed SoftBank's role in the marketwide gamma grab. The call, which took place on August 26 and was held by Morgan Stanley's media sector specialist covering SoftBank and was first noticed by Thunderdome Capital, emphasized several things:

-The company's massive buyback: "We always said our stock was cheap, but our stock is the best thing out there right now. Biggest buyback in Japan history. Only Apple's buyback is bigger globally."

-The continued "successful" listing of SoftBank's private portfolio companies: "Already had 9 companies that have listed out of the Vision Fund this year. We're starting to take smaller stakes in companies so we can sell them more quickly and increase our IRR."

-Visiong Fund's liquidity position: "Still have $14 billion in cash in the Vision Fund, which is partially being used to pay the 7% preferred return, but also to invest more in other assets."

The statement refers to SoftBank's brand new investment management subsidiary which was first revealed in the company's Aug 11 earnings call..... and specifically to the portfolio of public investments which SoftBank unveiled recently (Cap#2) and then used various option strategies to turbocharge returns during the now infamous gamma meltup. It also means that for all intents and purposes, SoftBank is now out of most - if not all - of its public equity positions and "Nasdaq Whale" bets which were, as we reported last week, the primary catalyst for the market's tremendous rally.

Finally, recall that it was last August when former NY president Bill Dudley wrote an Op-Ed urging the Fed to crash the market to prevent another Trump re-election. Well, if his message resonated with the FOMC, what better time to unveil a hawkish shock than at the Sept FOMC meeting in 9 days - the last one before the presidential election. Because if there is one thing that - in Dudley's and Trump's view - could cripple his re-election chances, it is a market crash just weeks before Nov 3.

London Police Arrest Extinction Rebellion Leader ‘Rainbow Surfer’

The Metropolitan Police arrested one of the leaders of Extinction Rebellion’s ‘Walk of Shame’ protest for reparations in the City of London after breaching coronavirus restrictions on organising mass gatherings.

On Friday, approximately 200 Extinction Rebellion activists gathered outside the Bank of England, going on to demonstrate in front of other British financial institutions, such as Lloyd’s of London and Aviva, for their role in the slave trade.

One of the leaders of the march, who referred to himself as “Rainbow Surfer”, was arrested by the police for breaching the lockdown restrictions which prohibit the organising of an event of more than 30 people, which has recently become punishable with a £10,000 fine.

In a Breitbart London exclusive video, the XR leader said that he was there to represent “the trees, the bees, the seas, the water, and the cats”, telling a police officer officer: “I do not understand your authority.”

The unidentified man only referred to himself as “Rainbow Surfer” when asked by police for his name. As he was loaded onto the police van, straggling members of the Extinction Rebellion protest shouted out “Reparations Rebellion!”

The arrest came just hours before the climate change extremist group blockaded the printworks responsible for printing British newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK, preventing the shipment of the papers on Saturday morning.

The stunt was the latest in XR’s ‘We Want to Live’ campaign, which is attempting to pressure the British parliament to pass the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill.

Following the blockade, there have been increasing calls for the government to clamp down on the disruptive eco-warriors, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying: “A free press is vital in holding the government and other powerful institutions to account on issues critical for the future of our country, including the fight against climate change.”

“It is completely unacceptable to seek to limit the public’s access to news in this way,” Johnson added.

Former Chief of Police: The cop-bashing New York Times just published a pro-pedophile story – and we’re ok with this?

From the same rag that brought us the 1619 project, we now have the New York Times making the claim that showing up to the door of a 13-year-old girl with a pack of condoms is apparently acceptable conduct, which they apparently believe does not warrant any legal consequences for the pervert. Seriously.

Conservatives have warned for some time that the end game for liberals is basically anything goes, good time rock and roll.

We’ve reported on these pages of some in academia making the argument that pedophilia should be treated as a psychological illness and not prosecuted as a crime. The New York Times, which basically denied the Holocaust ever existed is now making the case that pedophilia is really not all that big a deal.

In 2014, the opinion pages of the paper had an article by Margo Kaplan, who was a law professor at Rutgers School of Law in Camden, who made just that claim. Pedophilia is a disorder, not a crime.

Kaplan made the claim in the piece that pedophilia is not the same as child molestation. If you are interested in examining that mindset, we invite you to read the piece. Suffice it to say, Kaplan said that one can “live with pedophilia and not act on it.” The claim is that pedophilia is a “status” and not an act.”

According to the Post Millennial, quoting from the Times piece, in referring to the above sting, where a man indeed did show up at the home of what he believed was a 13-year-old, it reads:

“Was this an elaborate game? Again she claimed to be 13. The photo seemed to tell a different story and the gaming chair she was seated in looked too expensive for a kid. She used slang a 13-year-old probably wouldn’t know, like “FTP”—“fuck the police”—that originated in ‘80’s hip-hop. The vulgarities and snide tone seemed too adult. Her texts were full of “lol”s. Was she an immature teenager? Or a sly adult?

“It was a 20-minute drive to the house in suburban Vancouver. After stopping for condoms, he arrived at 7 p.m., three and a half hours after their first emails. She came to the door just as she’d said, in torn jeans and gray sweatshirt, as beautiful as her photo. She didn’t look 13 at all, more like she was in her 20s.”

According to the Times Magazine article, the suspect was referred to as Jace Hambrick, who is apparently claiming he is innocent. That is because most perverts show up to a home where they believe a 13-year-old is waiting, while he is packing condoms.

‘The Gov. Killed Nana’ Banner Mocking Andrew Cuomo Flies over New York Beaches

A banner mocking Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo flew over several of New York’s most popular beaches Labor Day weekend.

The banner, towed behind a small propeller plane, read like a shoreline advertisement, except with the words, “THE GOV KILLED NANA.”

The banner was seen flying over several beaches along Long Island and New York City and appeared to reference Cuomo’s March executive order forcing nursing homes to accept coronavirus patients.

His executive order led many to believe that it was at least partially the cause for the spike in nursing home coronavirus deaths in New York.

One person visiting Rockaway Beach for the day told the New York Post that when the plane went by people applauded the sign and took pictures.

“The people were going crazy,” the beachgoer said. “[Cuomo] is nothing but a liar, condescending and miserable person. His carelessness caused the death of a lot of people unnecessarily.”

Cuomo’s spokesperson Rich Azzopardi brushed off the stunt as nothing more than something concocted by a group of “conspiracy nuts.”

“Everyone knows this governor has worked day in and day out to protect all New Yorkers and that’s why these sad politically motivated lies always land with a thud and I have no comment on how conspiracy nuts want to waste their money,” he said in a statement.

Buttigieg, former officials added to Biden's transition team

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden added several former Obama administration officials as well as former South Bend, Ind. mayor and presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg to his transition team.

According to multiple media outlets, former National Security advisor Susan Rice and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates are joining the transition team. New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) and Jeff Zients, former President Obama’s National Economic Council director, will also reportedly join the transition team as co-chairs.

Biden campaign adviser Anita Dunn, Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) and former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy are also reportedly joining the transition team. Other transition members include Tony Allen, president of Delaware State University, and Teresa Romero, president of the United Farm Workers.

“We are preparing for this transition amid the backdrop of a global health crisis and struggling economy,” former Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.), who is leading the transition team, told Reuters. “This is a transition like no other, and the team being assembled will help Joe Biden meet the urgent challenges facing our country on day one.”

Over the summer Biden announced some members of the transition team, including Yohannes Abraham, who held several senior roles in the Obama administration, and Avril Haines, the former deputy director of the CIA.

Gautam Raghavan, currently chief of staff to Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the primary, is also on the transition team. Biden is also hiring Julie Siegel, who served as a top legal adviser to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Student Union Leader: Whites Should Stay Home Unless They’re ‘Poor, Disabled, Gay, or Transgender’

A student union leader in Britain said black, transgender, gay, disabled, and poor people should be allowed to return to class, while straight, able-bodied white people who are not poor should stay home, out of fear of creating a so-called “second wave” of Chinese coronavirus infections.

Larissa Kennedy warned that British universities could become “the care homes of the second wave”, saying that students have been lied to by the government that “going back to [university as] normal is possible, viable, safe”.

In comments reported by the Mail on Sunday, Kennedy suggested that some students will be safer on campus and therefore should be allowed to return to school, claiming that non-white students should receive special treatment because “we know that students of colour are disproportionately [living] in crowded households and disproportionately hold caring responsibilities.”

The union president said that LGBT people may “find themselves in [family] environments that are homophobic or transphobic, and need to leave those,” and that disabled people might need “equipment, support, other reasonable adjustments” not available at home.

She also said that working-class students may need to be allowed back on campus, as their homes may not “have all the facilities including technology and broadband to study remotely.”

“If we can hold space for students at the margins, for those who, particularly, campus is and needs to be home, then I think we will navigate our way through this situation and ensure that everyone is safe and cared for,” she explained, adding that it is important not to “widen the gap in educational justice” caused by the Wuhan virus.

The 22-year old was elected to her position as president of the National Union of Students (NUS) in April of this year.

Kennedy told The Guardian in August that she has a long history of political activism, previously campaigning against sexual harassment in schools and serving as the president of the antiracism society at Warwick University.

She said that she became interested in “how misogyny, racism, classism and other forms of oppression become reproduced by the education system” and that one of her main goals as president of the union will be to “decolonise” the British education system.

et another boat parade attended by President Donald Trump supporters can lay claim to being the biggest ever seen after thousands turned up on a lake in Georgia.

Organizers of Sunday's "Great American Boat Parade" on Lake Lanier had expected that several hundreds of people would turn up to the event promoted as a show of appreciation for first responders and the "leadership of this great nation."

However, officials at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that between 3,000 to 4,000 vessels were at the parade, according to Mark McKinnon at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Access WDUN reports.

Even as a rough guess, the figure is still much higher than the current record for largest ever boat parade.

According to the Guinness World Records, the current largest boat parade saw 1,080 vessels, which was set in Terengganu, Malaysia, on 13 September 2014.

Despite the larger number of attendees, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the event went more smoothly than a parade in Texas on Saturday afternoon, in which several boats sank.

"It went really smooth, we haven't received any reports of boats sinking or swamping or getting turned over," Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Warden Kevin Goss told 11 Alive.

Earlier this year, a Trump boat parade over the Fourth of July weekend in South Carolina also claimed to have broken the world record after more than 3,400 boats took part on Lake Murray.

However, Guinness previously told Newsweek that it could not officially list it as a record as no organizers had filed an application for it to be reviewed.

Guinness World Records have confirmed they are still reviewing a smaller boat parade in Clearwater, Florida, on August 15 in which an estimated 1,180 boats took part. It could take up to 15 weeks for the organization to confirm that the parade in Florida was larger than the current record holder.

"We can confirm we have received an application for this title and attempt. We are currently awaiting evidence to review," Amanda Marcus, public relations manager at Guinness World Records, told the Associated Press.

"Our standard application review process can take up to 12-15 weeks of submission. Once received and reviewed, our Records Management Team will then confirm the success or failure of the record attempt."

Speaking to Access WDUN, the organizers for the Great American Boat Parade in Georgia said they changed the original Trump theme of the event to make a wider group of people feel comfortable taking part.

"I did not want the parade to be tied directly to any political event or any one politician," John Gunter. "I think our nation is in a bigger place right now and the direction that I wanted to see the event move was to support general patriotism."

"We didn't want to be biased and restrict everybody with the theme," added fellow organizer Dustin Melton. "So we went with Great American Boat Parade and it's a parade that's unbiased."

However, in a statement to Newsweek, Guinness World Records said they do not consider "politically motivated" events for official records.

"Guinness World Records is an apolitical organization, determined to protect the integrity of our records by remaining politically neutral," a spokesperson said.

"Therefore, we do not accept record applications which we consider to be politically motivated or are looking to promote a political agenda."

America’s real hoax: Record highs on Wall Street as millions of jobless people can’t pay rent

Don’t blame Lisa Scott, a 43-year-old certified nursing assistant who lives in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia, for not celebrating this week as the Standard & Poor’s 500 index soared to yet another record high, as Wall Street’s unbelievable — in every sense of the word — summer stretches into a new month.

On Wednesday afternoon, as the Dow was rising yet another 454 points, Scott — who hasn’t worked since the coronavirus turned her world upside down in March — was far too busy worrying why Pennsylvania still hasn’t processed her unemployment claim, whether her landlord will keep allowing her to pay whatever rent she can, and how she’d be able to seek new work with her 12-year-old at home for virtual schooling.

“I think it’s all bull——, pardon my language,” Scott told me when I asked her about the stock market soaring even as nearly 30 million Americans, that’s one-in-every five workers, continues to receive the unemployment benefits she’s still struggling to obtain. Like many in her shoes, the mother of six is losing faith in the system.

“I am an essential worker — I am needed, and look how they’re doing me,” Scott told me.

What’s so mind-boggling is that the increasingly desperate plight of America’s jobless, a crisis that’s approached the unthinkable levels of the Great Depression of the 1930s, isn’t the biggest story on the news. Instead, it’s squeezed out by a debate over so-called “law and order,” with a president who’d rather marshal the vast power of the federal government to send troops to arrest graffiti artists than enact a massive jobs-and-relief program.

Seriously? You’re worried about social unrest now? Just imagine the chaos in a few months, when homeless people sleep on park benches under a blanket of newspaper headlines that Jeff Bezos is the world’s first $300-billion man, or when the food lines begin to resemble “Hands Across America.” Personally, I don’t play the stock market but if I did, I’d be investing heavily in pitchfork manufacturers.

Lawmakers have mandated a variety of COVID restrictions to stem the spread of the pandemic, but not all lawmakers have been willing to follow the rules.

Governors, mayors and state health departments have required that Americans wear masks, social distance, refrain from spending time in large groups, quarantine after traveling across state lines, stay home from church services and much more.

But many political leaders and members of their families have failed to comply with social distancing rules. Here’s a list of lawmakers who appeared to dodge coronavirus-related restrictions.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi attended a hair appointment in San Francisco Monday, though indoor hair salons in the California city are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Fox News reported.

Security footage obtained by Fox News shows a wet-haired Pelosi walking through eSalon in San Francisco on Monday as she attended her appointment for a wash and blow-out. Hair services at the salon range from $85 for a shampoo, haircut, blow dry to $325 for a Brazilian blowout, according to the eSalon website.

The house speaker’s nose and mouth are not covered by a face mask, though a face mask appears to be hanging around her neck, video shows.

San Francisco hair salons have been closed since March and were permitted to open Sept. 1 for outdoor hair appointments only, Fox News reported.

Erica Kious, the owner of the salon, told Fox News Tuesday that a stylist who rents a chair texted her Sunday night and let her know that “Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair.”

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” the salon owner said, adding that she “can’t believe” that Pelosi was not wearing a mask.

“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right?” Kious said, according to Fox News. “It is just disturbing.”

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that Pelosi “always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements.”

“This business offered for the Speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business,” he told KTVU. “The Speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment.”

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney

A photo posted Sunday shows Democratic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mayor Jim Kenney eating without a mask in a restaurant in Maryland, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The mayor’s office confirmed that the photo was taken Sunday in the Chesapeake Bay area.

Indoor dining is prohibited in Philadelphia until Sept. 8, according to the Philadelphia Department of Health.

19-year-old arrested in Newberry drive-by shooting was out on bond, deputies say

The shooting happened Sept. 4 on Upper Lane in the Helena area outside Newberry.

Deputies say a man in a car drove past a home and fired several shots into the house using an “assault type rifle.”

Thankfully, no one was hit, although two people were inside the home at the time.

As the shooter tried to drive away, he crashed the car and ran away on foot, deputies said.

Hours later, deputies arrested Ayone Ruff, 19, of Newberry. Police tracked him down to a residential area near Broad River Road and Interstate 20.

Ruff faces charges of two counts of attempted murder, DUI and weapons charges. He remains in the Newberry County Detention Center as of Monday, Sept. 7.

Deputies say Ruff was out on bond at the time of the shooting in two different criminal cases. Charges in those cases include armed robbery, assault and assault using explosives.

“We just have to find a way to keep dangerous and violent offenders in jail to protect our neighborhoods,” Sheriff Lee Foster said.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, Newberry City Police and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division joined efforts to investigate the crime.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department helped arrest Ruff.

Julian Assange has failed to get new allegations against him thrown out as he battles extradition to the US.

The WikiLeaks founder, 49, appeared at the Old Bailey in London after being held for months on remand at high-security Belmarsh Prison.

He was re-arrested in the court's cells on Monday over new charges contained in a US indictment.

It details a further 18 charges, lodged in June, which accuse him of plotting to hack computers and obtain and disclose national defence information.

They allege that he conspired with army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to crack a scrambled password, known as "hash", to a classified US defence department computer.

The charges also offer further details of alleged hacking plotters that Assange and his WikiLeaks colleagues are said to have recruited.

The 49-year-old spoke only to state he "does not consent to extradition" and confirm his name.

Assange, who is wanted in the US for publishing hundreds of thousands of classified documents in 2010 and 2011, was clean-shaven with short hair and wore glasses, a dark suit, maroon tie and white shirt.

If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 175 years in jail.

His lawyer, Mark Summers QC, said the "fresh allegations at the 11th hour" were brought without warning or explanation, which meant they had no time to prepare a response.

He highlighted the difficulties Assange faced in speaking to his lawyers in the midst of ongoing restrictions.

Julian Assange re-arrested in court prior to losing extradition bid

“What is happening is abnormal, unfair and liable to create injustice if allowed to continue,” Summers told the court, complaining they were getting “limited access” to the imprisoned Assange, the outlet reported.

Summers accused US prosecutors of filing the new indictment “in desperation” because “they knew that they would lose” with their existing case.

WHEC reporter Charles Molineaux was attacked and chased by a knife-wielding Black Lives Matter mob during "protests" on Sunday night in Rochester and yet his own news station ignored the incident and described the night's "protests" as "peaceful" on their front page.

Video shows Molineaux and his security guard getting attacked and called "Nazis" after apparently getting accused of being undercover cops.

An African-American man with a knife is seen running at them and threatening to stab them repeatedly, only backing down when Molineaux's security guard turns around to defend him with an expandable baton.

Trump administration efforts to blacklist Chinese electronics giant Huawei mean good news for Samsung (005930.KS) Electronics: The South Korean company announced a $6.6 billion deal Monday with Verizon (VZ) to help it build its 5G U.S. networks.

Details were not immediately released, with Samsung saying only the deal is for network equipment.

“With this latest long-term strategic contract, we will continue to push the boundaries of 5G innovation to enhance mobile experiences for Verizon’s customers,” Samsung said in a statement.

Samsung already is supplying 4G and 5G equipment to AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, and currently is working to expand its presence in Japan. It launched the world’s first 5G network in South Korea in April 2019 and has since expanded its market share in that country.

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg told CNBC last year the largest U.S. wireless provider does not use any Huawei equipment.

The administration imposed sanctions on Huawei citing national security concerns, last month banning sales of any chips using U.S. technology to the Chinese firm, damaging both its 5G equipment and handset business.

“More companies will be turning to Samsung for their 5G equipment because of the US restrictions against Huawei and Nokia’s quality issues,” Kim Young-woo, an analyst at SK Securities, told the Financial Times. “There are not many alternatives other than Samsung and Ericsson if you rule out Huawei and Nokia.”

Saudi Arabia overturns death sentences in Jamal Khashoggi killing

A Saudi court on Monday overturned five death sentences over dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi's killing, a final ruling in the case that saw the Washington Post columnist killed and dismembered by a Saudi hit squad.

The court handed 20-year sentences to five people and three others were sentenced to between seven to 10 years, state media reported. The eight convicted were not identified.

The verdict comes after Khashoggi's sons said in May they had "pardoned" the killers, a move condemned as a "parody of justice" by a UN expert.

Gym owners in San Francisco are up in arms after realizing that the government never had to shut down its own gyms at government buildings. It’s another incredible injustice to small businesses in California that have suffered so much during the mandatory closures the government says is to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The revelation was made by a local NBC news channel, which reported that gyms inside government buildings in San Francisco have been open for months, while other gyms across the city were mandated to shutdown during the novel coronavirus outbreak.

What? How angry would you be if you were a San Francisco resident, or for that matter a business owner?

Daniele Rabkin, of Crossfit Golden Gate, told her local NBC station: “It’s shocking, it’s infuriating. Even though they’re getting exposed, there are no repercussions, no ramifications? It’s shocking.”

It appears that the privileged government isn’t limited to House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hair salon incident, where she didn’t wear a mask.

According to the report from NBC the government gyms have literally been open for employees, including police officers, lawyers, judges, bailiffs, and others.

“It just demonstrates that there seems to be some kind of a double standard between what city employees are allowed to do and what the residents of San Francisco are allowed to do,” Dave Karraker, owner of MX3 Fitness in the Castro, told NBC.

The Israel-Palestine Conflict, Annexation And Normalization

As the Israel-Palestine conflict grinds on with no end in sight, Israel and the US have launched an all-out push to resolve the conflict once and for all, on Israel’s terms. If the manoeuvre is successful, Israel will end up with all of the territories it conquered during the 1967 war, including all of the Golan Heights and Jerusalem and most of the Palestinian Territories, including the best sources of water and agricultural land. The West Bank will find itself in the same situation as the Gaza strip, cut off from the outside world and surrounded by hostile Israeli military forces and Israeli settlements.

Palestine in the regional and international geopolitical context

The current economic, political and social situation in Palestine must be considered in the regional context. Two aspects are of most immediate relevance in this sense: the first is the long running confrontation between the US, Israel, the Saudis and the UAE (along with their other allies and associates) and the ‘Axis of Resistance’.

The second geopolitical development that is of fundamental significance for the Palestinian people is the attempt by Israel (with the emphatic support of the Trump administration and most of the US Congress) to resolve the ‘Palestinian question’ by normalizing relations with as many Arab and Muslim countries as possible while at the same time proceeding with the plan to annex large chunks of Palestinian territory and keeping the Palestinian inhabitants in conditions of severe deprivation and isolation.

In each instance there are broad similarities but also some significant differences in the postures of different countries and international organizations to these two key topics. There are also the superimposed bilateral and multilateral confrontations and rivalries, of which the mutual antagonism between Iran and the US, Israel and the Saudis is one of the most important. There is also the rivalry between Turkey, the Saudis and Iran to be considered the ‘leader’ of the Muslim world, and a deepening enmity and confrontation between Turkey and Egypt. All of these elements and opposing forces are also deeply involved in the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

The ‘Axis of Resistance’ comprises the countries and groups determined to confront the efforts by the US and Israel to impose their hegemony over the course developments take, the core of which consists of Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah. Other Muslim and Arab countries are not willing to directly confront the US and Israel, or are allied to greater or lesser degree with them against Iran and the other members of the resistance (the Saudis in particular).

The topic of the normalization of relations with Israel prior to a conclusive peace agreement with the Palestinians has also polarized the region since the deal concluded between the UAE and Israel. Most Arab and Muslim countries have stated that they will not be normalizing relations with Israel as yet, and that they remain committed to the Arab Peace Initiative, notwithstanding that many already have significant unofficial and semi-covert relations with Israel.

While Russia and to a lesser extent China are cooperating with the members of the Axis of Resistance in Syria to defeat the foreign-backed terrorist groups that continue to occupy and ravage some parts of the country, most now concentrated in Idlib province, they are understandably reluctant to become directly involved in the military confrontation with the US and Israel that is taking place there. While the European Union generally goes along with the US and Israel on many issues, most of its member countries have clearly stated that they do not and will not support Israel’s annexation of occupied Palestinian territories.

The already crippled Palestinian economy received another devastating blow in 2008-2009 when the Israeli leadership launched ‘Operation Cast Lead’, a period of massive air and artillery strikes against the entire Gaza enclave. The Institute for Middle East Understanding summarized the impact of the prolonged military operation on Gaza’s infrastructure, population and economy:

According to investigations by independent Israeli and Palestinian human rights organizations, between 1,385 and 1,419 Palestinians were killed during Cast Lead, a majority of them civilians, including at least 308 minors under the age of 18. More than 5000 more were wounded. Thirteen Israelis were also killed, including 3 civilians.

According to the UN, 3,540 housing units were completely destroyed, with another 2,870 sustaining severe damage.

More than 20,000 people – many of them already refugees, some two or three times over – were made homeless.

Attacks on Gaza’s electricity infrastructure caused an estimated $10 million in damage, according to the Israeli advocacy group Gisha.

268 private businesses were destroyed, and another 432 damaged, at an estimated cost of more than $139 million, according to an assessment by the Private Sector Coordination Council, a Palestinian economic group. A separate report found that 324 factories and workshops were damaged during the war.

According to the UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides services to Palestinian refugees, the offensive damaged almost 20,000 meters (approx. 12 miles) of water pipes, four water reservoirs, 11 wells, and sewage networks and pumping stations. Israeli shelling also damaged 107 UNRWA installations.

Eighteen schools, including 8 kindergartens, were destroyed, and at least 262 others damaged. Numerous Palestinian government buildings, including police stations, the headquarters of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and part of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ compound, were also destroyed.

Ten years later, a report in The Guardian reviewing the context of the military operation surmised:

On 27 December 2008, Israel launched Operation Cast Lead, pounding the densely populated strip from the air, sea and land for 22 days. It was not a war or even “asymmetric warfare” but a one-sided massacre. Israel had 13 dead; the Gazans had 1,417 dead, including 313 children, and more than 5,500 wounded. According to one estimate 83% of the casualties were civilians. Israel claimed to be acting in self-defence, protecting its civilians against Hamas rocket attacks. The evidence, however, points to a deliberate and punitive war of aggression. Israel had a diplomatic alternative, but it chose to ignore it and to resort to brute military force.

For its part, the Jewish Virtual Library states of developments leading up to the military operation:

Hamas seized power from the Palestinian Authority (PA) in what amounted to a coup in June 2007. This allowed them to confiscate armored vehicles and weapons given to the PA by Israel, the United States and other countries. In addition, the group manufactured its own mortars and rockets while smuggling in from Egypt more sophisticated rockets provided by Iran.

Between 2005 and 2007, Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza fired about 2,000 rockets into Israel, killing four Israeli civilians and injuring 75 others. The bombardment continued in the first half of 2008.

On June 19, 2008, Egypt brokered a six-month pause in hostilities that required Hamas to end rocket and mortar attacks on Israel. Hamas was also expected to halt its military buildup in Gaza and release an Israeli soldier it was holding hostage. In exchange, Israel agreed to ease the blockade of Gaza and to halt military raids into Gaza. As part of the deal Egypt promised to stop the smuggling of arms and weapons from its territory into Gaza.

Throughout the fall, Israel and Hamas accused each other of violating the Egyptian-mediated truce. Rocket fire from Gaza never stopped entirely and weapons smuggling continued. Hamas insisted Israel never allowed the expected amount of goods to flow into Gaza and of conducting raids that killed Hamas fighters.
