to me, nationalism is a political and economical system where the state is given expanded control over the population to ensure they're all playing ball AND to make sure that everyone is appropriately cared for by the state.
Features being centralised education and healthcare. high tax. corporatism. probably protectionism too.
Where as conservative patriotism would have the standard social values of god, country and family and a smaller state with more personal liberties and a free(er at least) market
