So, I started walking the lawn. The rake and shovel were already locked away in the garage, and I didn't want to bother her again for the key. So, I walked the lawn, and picked up as many walnuts as I could carry at a time, then walked them back to the trash can. I don't want to completely hijack this thread with my story, but I did want to post an update.

On Monday, I forgot my walnuts twice. So, that punishment left me with 5 walnuts that I had to walk around with. This is extremely mentally taxing, and very hard to accomplish, as I can't carry too much, and often need to make two trips if I need to do something. Okay, one last update to close the loop for anyone who may be curious.

Last Saturday, I was able to go back over and crawled the lawn again. I only collected 27 walnuts on my first pass, and did not find a single one on my second, third or forth pass. I was extremely disappointed in this, but I still followed the rules and removed 27 walnuts from my bed with my mouth, leaving me with 170.

I got such a nice night's sleep, and my morning count took minutes instead of an hour.

Yesterday, I returned very early, as I knew she would be returning sometime around 11am and I didn't want to disturb her. I was able to crawl the yard as the sun came up, and quickly retrieved my needed 16 walnuts. After 5 more passes, I collected a total of 63. I was able to leave about 45 minutes before she returned home. When I got home, I removed all 16 walnuts from my bed, once at a time, with my mouth. There are other places in therapy that talking is used that seems similar to me. In Avatar Therapy for malicious auditory hallucinations, a patient tells a therapist the nasty things they hear the voice telling them, and then the therapist uses a computerized face to speak those words back to the patient, and has the patient contradict them. This continues, but as the patient contradicts the therapist's digital puppet, the "avatar" is toned down, perhaps getting a bit smaller, and the therapist roleplays them as less and less powerful or confident. In that kind of therapy, the patient would deeply visualize and feel within their body all the associations of this "part" (this accesses the memory/related memories - due to the biochemistry of how memory works, a memory must be accessed somewhat recently before it can be changed), and then have a conversation with that protector part thanking them for their diligent service but showing them that their habit is no longer needed anymore.

In all of these cases, language is used to calibrate, moderate, or share information between different subsystems within the brain.
