Looking for something like Darling in the Franxx but with sentient mecha waifus instead of second-pilot thots and with a pilot-mecha relationship dynamic instead of all the usual Eva bullshit.

Not as in just regular robot-girls, but legit giant-ass gundams.

Punpun goes without saying.

You might also like Sen to Man. It's a SoL about a single father and his daughter. It's fairly short and not exactly depressing or even necessarily sad but it has a sort of realism and undercurrent of melancholy to it.

Girls' Last Tour

You may think "oh, but it's two girls and not one so they are not loners" and that's somewhat true, but they are by themselves in this post-apocalyptic world where meeting someone else is a rarity. It's also a proper SoL. Melancholic is a good adjective for this series.

Both the manga or anime are good and the manga has been fully scanlated.

Ok, VERY specific question and I know it's not exactly a recommendation but I figured this board would be better to post this on than /r/: I'm writing something that takes place sometime around 2010 or so where two Japanese people are texting each other and would like to know what kinds of special characters are/were Japanese flip phones from roughly that time period able to make simply with the options of the keyboards or other programs in the phone without having to copy and paste them from the Internet, specifically characters that make up emoticons? In other words, what can be done just from the keyboard or from within the phone itself? Of course, I know that really anyone anywhere nowadays and even back then can/could do :), :( and the like but there are some more complicated ones I was hoping to throw in for some flair and to spice things up a bit so the conversation doesn't seem repetitive and the same emoticons aren't constantly being used. For example, I'm almost positive that something like the Lenny face would be nearly impossible to do without having to go on the web to copy it from there since I don't imagine the eyes, nose and mouth portion in between the "cheeks" (parentheses, obviously) are readily available to use on the keyboard. Or even better, if there are certain messenger apps/features that came with phones from back then that were capable of more than the regular texting functions, that's fine too. Been using this as a resource to go off of and have been going through the Eastern section in particular for help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons. I know I'm autistic as hell but I just want as few anachronisms in the story as possible.

I'm pretty sure they could write all kaomojis on flip phones. In Japan they've been using flip phones even beyond 2010, and I've certainly seen a lot of anime/VN characters sending text messages with complicated kaomoji.

From some googling I found that nip dumbphones have had rich text support for far longer than western ones, and it was typical to have menus with various emojis integrated into dumbphone OSes, by the same logic I'm sure they made the symbols used in kaomoji easily accessible also.

>I'm pretty sure they could write all kaomojis on flip phones

That's very surprising, I haven't used a flip phone in years but from what I remember of mine back then, it could probably only do like 10% of what a typical Jap phone could based on what you're describing

>From some googling I found that nip dumbphones have had rich text support for far longer than western ones, and it was typical to have menus with various emojis integrated into dumbphone OSes, by the same logic I'm sure they made the symbols used in kaomoji easily accessible also

Never would've even guessed that, very good to know. Would you mind sharing the links that you found this info from? Not that I don't believe you or anything but I'd just like to read it/them for myself to get a better understanding of the tech. I just googled "kaomoji flip phone" and went through some pages. I couldn't find the same source again, but for example, this article talks about it https://www.tofugu.com/japan/emoji/ and again implies that kaomoji usage on flip phones was a thing for a long time.

Like the other Anon said, nips have better support for kaomoji since writing in Japanese forces you to come up with some clever input methods anyway.

If you want a list of them, there's sites like http://www.facemark.jp/f-egao.htm. You can google 顔文字 and you'll find others like it, and you can use your judgement for what might or might not be common. Very contextual and specific ones with lots of characters like ヾ(-_-;) オイオイ… probably don't get used as much as something like ( °Д°#) , unless it's the character's personality that he uses a lot of kaomoji.

Now that I watched more episodes of log horizon i can say it really starts dropping quality around the middle of the 1st season.

I finished all the animes listed here after finishing up RE:Zero a few weeks ago.

Re:Zero was a disappointment, I liked subaru at first but then he went batshit insane around the 13th episode. You could say it's because of his suffering, but it was really forced and it wasn't the kind of insanity you'd expect. He changes from being aware the girls won't understand his situation to WHY DONTU YOU UNDERSTANDU HERE'S A RANT THAT LASTS HALF THE EPISODE AND ONLY CONFUSES YOU MORE NOW WHY DONTU YOU UNDERSTANDU.

OP here, another year sucking dick.

I'd like to add that log horizon ended up a disappointment. It became a generic isekai after about episode 13, it stopped being about isekai politics and became yet another generic isekai where the MC goes do adventurer things, and it didn't do even that rather well. Early on every isekai naturally blended into the world, but then it became this forced artificial world which makes little sense after they became obsessed with explaining how everything in the mmo world works "behind the scenes" and the best in-world realistic explanation that could be come up with was that aliens did it, alienating me as the watcher over what they're doing. I started asking myself "then what's the point of what they're doing? Go fight the aliens or whatever". I think it's just really badly written and all over the place without much thought. I may be saying all this now but that's what I gathered from my watch in 2017.

I'm following Overlord and Konosuba's LNs, they seem to be the cream of the crop, but issues have emerged.

Konosuba's plots have become skeletonized repetition which even if it's a comedy and the story is not the center of it, since it still has a story anyway, the lack of attention it's given and lazyness in its writing starts sapping enjoyment from the series, and I believe the LNs are on decline. The peak is I'd say the 4-5 chapters after the anime plus the side stories from that time.

Overlord was quite interesting even if getting past the lizardman arc was a slog, but nothing is really happening and nothing has been happening for so long I'm starting to feel upset. It's all Ainz shitting his pants at any sign of danger and acting hyper carefully, taking a random opportunity that crops up (which may be a random plot created by one of his servants which solve his issues and they then pin all that on him because he's all-knowing in their eyes). /a/ has managed to perfectly sum it up in meme form. He's the japanese Mr. Bean and fumbles into sasuga. I hope that stops happening, maybe it was fun the first few times, but it's not anmore.

I'm looking into maybe a third isekai that's more like the genre, but it's hard to wade through the sea of trash that is the new trend genre.

Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

What is an anime with lots of elves?

Bonus points if the protagonist is an elf or most of the main cast is composed of elves and they're doing elven things.

The only requirement is that it's not CGDCT. Because I want something that's a fantasy, not just moe with a new coat of flavour on it.

I've recently started reading manga and used nyaa and google to find them so far. Can you help me with good sources. Something like 9anime for manga, preferable for downloading. A lot of older or less known stuff on nyaa isn't seeded anymore and the sites I found via google aren't really well organized and are missing a lot.

I don't read a lot of manga so I've never used it, but apparently the go-to service is Madokami. Animebytes also has some stuff. If you know who is translating the manga, the group will often be releasing it on their own site or blog.

You shouldn't be streaming your anime, and if you do, you definitely shouldn't be posting about it.

What about scans of licensed manga?

Given the nonsense that some "translators" pull I'd never give money for one without taking a look and seeing how localized it is first, and preferably comparing to a fan translation. Some are on madokami, but plenty aren't. I hear AB has scans of licensed manga but applications are open so rarely and for such brief intervals that even actively monitoring the threads I could never submit an application.

Is there anywhere else that has them?

for licensed manga, you'll likely see them on libgen or archive org.
