OP here, another year sucking dick.
I'd like to add that log horizon ended up a disappointment. It became a generic isekai after about episode 13, it stopped being about isekai politics and became yet another generic isekai where the MC goes do adventurer things, and it didn't do even that rather well. Early on every isekai naturally blended into the world, but then it became this forced artificial world which makes little sense after they became obsessed with explaining how everything in the mmo world works "behind the scenes" and the best in-world realistic explanation that could be come up with was that aliens did it, alienating me as the watcher over what they're doing. I started asking myself "then what's the point of what they're doing? Go fight the aliens or whatever". I think it's just really badly written and all over the place without much thought. I may be saying all this now but that's what I gathered from my watch in 2017.
I'm following Overlord and Konosuba's LNs, they seem to be the cream of the crop, but issues have emerged.
Konosuba's plots have become skeletonized repetition which even if it's a comedy and the story is not the center of it, since it still has a story anyway, the lack of attention it's given and lazyness in its writing starts sapping enjoyment from the series, and I believe the LNs are on decline. The peak is I'd say the 4-5 chapters after the anime plus the side stories from that time.
Overlord was quite interesting even if getting past the lizardman arc was a slog, but nothing is really happening and nothing has been happening for so long I'm starting to feel upset. It's all Ainz shitting his pants at any sign of danger and acting hyper carefully, taking a random opportunity that crops up (which may be a random plot created by one of his servants which solve his issues and they then pin all that on him because he's all-knowing in their eyes). /a/ has managed to perfectly sum it up in meme form. He's the japanese Mr. Bean and fumbles into sasuga. I hope that stops happening, maybe it was fun the first few times, but it's not anmore.
I'm looking into maybe a third isekai that's more like the genre, but it's hard to wade through the sea of trash that is the new trend genre.
I watched the 2 seasons of "those who hunt elves". It's the best bad anime I have ever watched, that's how I can describe it. A group of people is isekai'd into a fantasy world and they must hunt and strip elves to go back. It sounds nice, maybe it would make one of the best OVAs ever if it was a 3-4 episode OVA from 1993 with good animation, but in actuality it's not a particularly interesting or engaging plot, and despite what it's about the anime has barely any fanservice. Maybe at the end of the episode you'll see a single elf all covered up and crying, maybe a random episode has the fighter guy in the group strip multiple elves at once and you can get a glimpse of them for a second.
Nonetheless they execute the plot very well. Hence "best bad anime". A bit of hyperbole there since it's not really that bad of an idea, but it's not good, however at least they do what the series is about well. It's based on a manga and I'm not personally interested in reading it, having watched the anime.
It's not really isekai, but "Mahou Tsukai no Yome" is in part about a girl who happens to find a new facet of the world she's in, that it's a fantastical world. She's even moved from Japan to England. That's isekai enough for me.
I recommend that, both the anime and the manga, it's actually a romance with the girl learning from the magus.
I watched Mondaiji-Taichi. Big mistake, it was a random wish fulfillment isekai. In fact, it's so bad and so shameless, a central point of the plot is that the protagonists are overpowered. They're just supposed to be overpowered demigods, they were summoned to another world because that's what they are. It's this group of random problem kids with superpowers who come into this random fantasy world confident that they'll overpower everything there, and they do. It's not even good at doing that because it artificially brings them struggle to "spice it up" perhaps but then at the end they just win through their bullshit powers.
Maybe you fags will be pissed that I have bumped this thread in 2018 and now I'm doing it again in 2019, but since isekai is being discussed in other threads of this board, I imagine that keeping this information in the board could be of use.
