A Delta Airlines flight from Houston to Atlanta was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing after a passenger became unruly and began assaulting fellow passengers.

One victim, John Lemastus, said the incident began about thirty minutes into the flight from Houston.

“I’m just sitting there, and a guy walks aggressively by me and aggressively back, and he bumps into my shoulder and starts wailing on my head,” Lemastus told 11Alive.

“He punched me three times and then walked back and then started attacking another gentleman behind me.”

“No words, no nothing, never seen the gentleman before in my life,” Lemastus added. “He started screaming at the gentleman behind me, kind of like in tongues, and everyone assumed he was just kind of not mentally there.”

Lemastus further said it took seven people to subdue him, and zip ties were used to restrain him.

The man reportedly attempted to access the cockpit, according to Lemastus, though Delta Airlines said he did not make the attempt.

Still, the pilots were heard on the air traffic control radio, stating that “We had a passenger get up and try to access the cockpit.”

Another passenger described the scene, saying he was “yanking” another man by his shirt and hair, and that “he wanted to speak to the pilot.”

Video from passengers shows crew members and other passengers attempting to subdue the man as he screams.

Police later led the man off the plane in handcuffs.

US Coast Guard Seizes $133.5 Million In Illicit Drugs

Crew of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Seneca seized more than $133.5 million worth of cocaine and offloaded the drugs at Port Everglades, Florida, the agency said in a Feb. 13 statement.

“80 percent of interdictions of U.S.-bound drugs occur at sea. This underscores the importance of maritime interdiction in combatting the flow of illegal narcotics and protecting American communities from this deadly threat,” USCG said.

In total, 17,700 pounds of cocaine were seized through the interdiction of four drug-transporting vessels in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

One of the drug vessels was boarded by Seneca’s crew on Jan. 25, seizing 4,410 pounds of cocaine. On Jan. 31, crew members boarded three vessels, taking custody of 13,340 pounds of cocaine, the statement said.

The detection and monitoring of illegal drug transit by air and sea are conducted by the U.S. Southern Command’s Joint Interagency Task Force-South, based in Key West. Once it is determined that the vessel must be interdicted, the USCG takes control of the operation, boards the vessel, and apprehends it.

“I am extremely proud of the crew’s incredible performance and adaptability during this deployment,” said Capt. Lee Jones, commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Seneca.

“This deployment demonstrates our enhanced posture and continued success in the fight against narco-terrorism and transnational criminal organizations.

The discussions contemplated a date for Brunel to walk into the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan. His lawyer said Brunel had recruited girls for Epstein and possessed incriminating photographs, according to the notes.

Then Brunel stopped communicating.

The files indicate that Epstein learned negotiations were underway. On May 3, 2016, Epstein emailed Ruemmler, a top Obama administration attorney who recently announced her resignation over the friendship. Epstein warned that Brunel planned to approach the U.S. Attorney’s office the following week - noting that one of Brunel’s friends had "asked for 3 million dollars so that Jean Luc would not go in." Here in Canada, if you were to tune in to CBC news, CTV News, any Toronto-area news publication, or any other mainstream news channel on TV, radio, or online, you would see a pattern emerge. That pattern is simply that the networks are always sucking up to the current Liberal government, which today is under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The reality is that every press release or press conference, even words spoken inside Parliament, from the current government seem to, at least from the mainstream media, be reported in a manner that props up the Liberal government.

Indeed, one of Carney’s ministers, Heritage Minister Marc Miller, just claimed that independent outlets are somehow “illegitimate” media and should be avoided to promote “social cohesion” in Canada.

“When there is lack of support for a public broadcaster, I think that contributes to the spread of disinformation and social cohesion is therefore affected,” Miller said at a recent House of Commons heritage committee meeting.

“It’s not about any sort of command and control of the media system you might see in other countries.”

A Montreal hair salon has been ordered to pay $500 to a person who identifies as non-binary after the customer claimed that their booking system was discriminatory. The processing system only allowed for the individual to get a men's or women's haircut.

Alexe Frédéric Migneault, who identifies as non-binary, was asked in an email to select either male or female when in the process of arranging for a haircut in 2023. The salon, Station 10, charges by the minute, and since women’s hair appointments tend to take longer for them, it was part of their processing system, per CTV.

"The concept seemed great because they charge based on the time that it takes to do the cut and not based on the gender of the person,” Migneault said. However, during the process, Migneault was disappointed that the booking only allowed for a men’s or a women’s haircut.

"It is not fair, and it’s not legal to tell me no, since you don’t fit into my worldview, I don’t want to do anything with you, and I don’t want you as my customer,” Migneault said about the situation.

Station 10’s co-owner, Alexis Labrecque, said that the business is a low-cost-high-volume model, and that bookings, since they are only done online, ask for the gender of customers to help with timing the appointments.

“It takes typically takes longer for a woman’s haircut than a man’s haircut,” he said. “So we optimize our agendas accordingly. We also get statistics for marketing.”

Migneault, however, claimed that reading the only two options of “male” and “female” led to “falling to complete disability" mentally. "I was already spiraling into a huge mental health crisis, and it precipitated my, falling to complete disability. I was unable to work for a year and a half."

Migneault filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, which recommended the $500 settlement. Labrecque refused to pay the settlement, so Migneault sued for $12,000.

"We fought back because we didn’t agree with the prejudice that we might have caused,” Lebrecque added. After the incident took place, the salon also updated its website to include a “gender-neutral” booking option.

The court, however, agreed that the only damages the salon had to pay were $500.

“It was discrimination, and non-binary people should not be forced to pick between men and women if they don’t want to identify as such,” Migneault said, seeing the $500 legal battle as a win.

Former BC school trustee ordered to pay LGBTQ educators $750k for 'injury to dignity, feelings, and self-respect'

The BC Human Rights Tribunal has ruled that former Chilliwack Board of Education trustee Barry Neufeld must pay $750,000 to LGBTQ members of the Chilliwack Teachers’ Association over comments deemed offensive.

The tribunal argued that his words amounted to "injury to dignity, feelings, and self-respect" of the aforementioned class, thus the punishment was "reasonable, if not modest."

Since 2017, Neufeld has been a vocal critic of sexual orientation and gender identity being taught in schools via the SOGI 123 framework. He referred to it as a "weapon of propaganda" and deemed the concept of gender identity to be a "biologically absurd theory."

Neufeld argued that he was simply targeting the ideology, not individuals who happen to identify as LGBTQ, however the tribunal ruled that his comments displayed an "existential denial" of transgender people.

"A person does not need to believe in Christianity to accept that another person is Christian," the tribunal wrote. "However, to accept that a person is transgender, one must accept that their gender identity is different than their sex assigned at birth."

They went on to argue that "calling transness 'gender ideology' allows anti-trans activists to hide behind a veneer of reasonableness."

"Referring to 'gender ideology' or 'transgenderism' — '-ism' denoting a belief or ideology such as capitalism or communism — pushes the idea that trans people have an agenda rather than being just another demographic group," they added. "As this decision illustrates, such terms can create the conditions for discrimination and hatred to flourish."

The tribunal also took aim at Neufeld's stance against medically-transitioning minors, which he has repeatedly labelled "child abuse."

"Contrary to Mr. Neufeld’s view, gender affirming recognition and care for trans and gender diverse children is life saving," they wrote.

A second New Brunswick youth has been placed under a terrorism peace bond after being accused of involvement in terrorist activities linked to the online extremist group 764 Network, Canada’s federal police service says.

The youth appeared in Fredericton Provincial Youth Court on Feb. 18 on allegations of using social media to advocate for the violent ideology of 764, a group recently added to Canada’s list of terrorist entities.

“The youth is believed to have been actively extorting victims to self-harm, making threats to schools in the province and in the United States, and to have been producing and distributing online material with the aim of gaining notoriety for the 764 Network,” the RCMP said in a Feb. 19 press release.

The youth is now subject to strict conditions under the authority of the terrorism peace bond, police said.

The case is not related to a separate incident from earlier this month in which a youth was placed under the same type of bond, the RCMP has confirmed.

The New Brunswick youth in the earlier case was arrested in late 2025 on suspicion of facilitating terrorist activity, the RCMP said in a Feb. 4 press release. LeBlanc made the remarks on Feb. 18 during a press briefing in Monterrey, Mexico, alongside Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald, as part of this week’s visit to the country. The trade trip runs through Feb. 20 and includes more than 240 businesses and 370 delegates from across Canada.

The objective was to strengthen economic ties, diversify trade, and “advance prosperity in Canada and in North America,” LeBlanc said.

“Thus far, national business associations and Canadian companies from Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Newfoundland and Labrador have signed 15 commercial partnerships and deals,” he added.

LeBlanc said many small- and medium-sized Canadian businesses are taking part in roughly 1,900 business-to-business meetings with their Mexican counterparts on the trade mission. He said the trade trip plays a part in meeting Prime Minister Mark Carney’s goal of doubling non-U.S. exports by 2035.

The trade mission’s first three days also involved meetings with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and members of her cabinet. The Tkemlúps te Secwépemc First Nation says its ongoing search at the former Kamloops residential school has proven to be “more complex than anticipated.” An update provided by the First Nation on Feb. 18 did not indicate that any excavation work has yet taken place.

Tkemlúps te Secwépemc said it has ruled out some areas of the former residential school grounds as containing potential unmarked graves, while data from multiple surveys have identified zones that “should now be the primary focus.”

The First Nation said that since it announced in May 2021 that ground-penetrating radar had detected 215 potential burial sites, it has worked with independent third-party experts from across Canada to search the grounds of the school. This has involved using ground-penetrating radar, a LiDAR scanner to “create precise, 3D representations of objects and environments,” and dogs that specialize in detecting human remains.

The data and findings from the three investigation methods “overlap” in several areas and are now the primary focus of search efforts, Tkemlúps te Secwépemc said, adding the radar and laser scanner has ruled out utility lines and clay tiles in those locations, while “signatures that resemble burials were found in some areas.”

“Some areas were ruled out as burials, while others cannot confidently be ruled out,” the release said.

The First Nation said while it is seeking “facts and answers as quickly as possible,” there have been challenges with accessing federal government and Catholic Church records for the 88-year period that the school operated. Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab unveiled a new scheme on Wednesday that she said would help “attract the best talent” to the Canadian Armed Forces.

“There are lots of people who began their military careers in one nation and end up in Canada,” Paul T. Mitchell, a professor at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, said Thursday in an email.

Potential drawbacks to hiring experts from foreign militaries “is the security aspect,” said Michel Maisonneuve, a retired lieutenant-general.

“These people — you have to vet them properly,” he said. “To bring (Canadians) into our own armed forces is taking months. Is somebody going to stick with it who’s coming from outside?”

Whether they should be accepted by the Canadian military would depend on where recruits are coming from and their level of experience, said Ken Hansen, a military analyst and former Royal Canadian Navy commander.

“If they’re coming from Sweden and the United States, and Australia, then fine. They’re familiar with our system of operation and how governments let contracts and how programs are run,” he said. “But if they’re coming from a third world country or China or North Korea, I would say that they should weed those fellows out.” Continue…

Some victims told the BBC they were raped by multiple men as “payment” for unpaid drug debts run up by gangs that controlled them. Others said they had been groomed solely for sex. The investigation also found that girls were often drawn into criminal activity such as drug dealing, weapons trading, and phone theft before being sexually exploited.

One Metropolitan Police officer described young girls and women as the “lowest rung” within gang hierarchies, saying they were groomed and exploited “for everything.”

Public debate over grooming gangs in the U.K. has often focused on northern towns such as Rotherham and Rochdale. A government-commissioned report last year found that in Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire, there was evidence of “disproportionate numbers of men from Asian ethnic backgrounds amongst suspects for group-based child sexual exploitation.”

Further investigations have found the same in other towns and cities, including Telford, Oxford, Derby, Birmingham, Halifax, Peterborough, and countless others.

“She was 107 years old at the time and still living independently,” Harper told the National Post on Thursday.

Harper, a teacher in Peterborough and founder of Soldier Search, introduced himself and asked Fuller and her family whether she would consider being interviewed for his organization, which preserves the histories of Canadian veterans. She agreed.

When Harper visited her home in November to conduct the interview, he wasn’t sure what to expect. At the time of the interview, Fuller lived in Burlington but since then has moved to Fergus.

“Her memory was fantastic. She was walking around her home with her walker, and she had so many interesting stories to tell,” he said.

Born Lucie Anna Joan Belmar in England in 1918, Fuller grew up as Europe edged toward conflict. She would eventually join the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force in 1943, serving as a radar operator, tasked with detecting planes and determining if they were enemy aircrafts, according to her Soldier Search profile.

After the war, she emigrated to Canada with her soon-to-be husband in 1947, landing in Burlington.

But, amid demobilization and international relocation, something was missed. Her 1939-1945 war medal never arrived.

For roughly two decades, the CRA has defined a large business as one reporting more than $250 million in gross revenue for two consecutive years.

Based on that benchmark, about 1,600 economic entity groups and more than 25,000 legal entities fall within the large business audit population.

“These projects will benefit 186 communities serving approximately 207,000 people,” the submission said, equating to $9,083 per capita.

Senators were told the program has been successful in helping communities transition from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources including solar, hydroelectric and wind.

“The department is supporting First Nations efforts to transition from fossil fuel to clean, reliable and affordable energy systems,” officials wrote.

Acceptance of all status cards is “entirely at the discretion of U.S. officials,” the website says.

The government began the distribution of secure status cards in 2009, gradually discontinuing the previous versions of laminated, paper, or plastic status cards and started to issue cards with a machine-readable field in 2019.

A year ago, Justice Clayton Conlan of the province’s Superior Court of Justice handed Matthew Elias a conditional sentence of two years less a day on house arrest and three years of probation. The Crown appealed the sentence, arguing that Elias should get three years behind bars.

“I agree with the Crown that the sentencing judge erred in principle by failing to recognize aggravating factors and failing to prioritize denunciation and deterrence as sentencing objectives,” Justice Sally A. Gomery wrote in a recent decision from Ontario’s Court of Appeal.

Elias should have been sentenced to 30 months in prison, Gomery wrote in a decision from the three-judge panel.

Samaneh and Soroor previously worked at Google before joining another unnamed tech firm, while Khosravi, a former member of the Iranian army, was employed at a developer of system-on-chip (SoC) platforms, such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series used in high-end Android phones and Apple’s iPhones.

Charged with conspiracy to commit trade secret theft, theft, and attempted theft of trade secrets, and obstruction of justice, the trio allegedly exploited their insider access to steal processor security, cryptography materials, and Snapdragon SoC hardware architecture secrets that serve as valuable intel not readily available to competitors.

The trio routed the files through third-party platforms like Telegram, copied them to personal devices, and even photographed computer screens to dodge digital monitoring.

In a particularly brazen move, just before Samaneh and Khosravi jetted off to Iran in December 2023, she snapped photos of his work screen displaying company secrets.

While in Iran, devices linked to them accessed this pilfered info.

As reported by Welt, Mohammed Yaqub al-Omar, director of the consular department at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, urged Germany “to understand the Syrian refugees and give us more time for reconstruction.”

He warned that “the return of thousands of Syrians to Syria at this time could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and mean that many people will have to live in refugee camps.”

According to al-Omar, 1.5 million people are currently living in tent camps in northern Syria alone due to destroyed homes, schools, roads, and a lack of electricity. Large-scale deportations from Germany, he suggested, would place further strain on already overstretched infrastructure.

Federal bureaucrats cost taxpayers an average of $143,271 each in pay and benefits last year, as total personnel spending climbed into the tens of billions and the size of the public service continued to swell, according to the Parliamentary Budget Office.

Blacklock's Reporter says the Parliamentary Budget Officer reported total compensation per full-time equivalent employee rose 5.1% from $136,345 to $143,271, marking a second consecutive year of what analysts described as “historically high” growth in spending per employee.

The increase was largely driven by a 4.8% jump in salaries.

The report counted 447,859 federal employees last year — a 31% increase from the 2015 payroll of 342,129 workers. “The size of the public service continued to grow,” analysts wrote.

Federal health regulators have pulled more than 4,100 cannabis licences since legalization, citing risks to public health and safety — including concerns about marijuana being diverted into the black market — as the legal pot industry grapples with bankruptcies and mounting unpaid taxes.

An Oct. 9 Mandate Briefing Binder from Health Canada said the department has stepped up enforcement under the Cannabis Regulations to strengthen oversight of the industry.

“Under Cannabis Regulations, Health Canada may refuse or revoke a registration on public health or public safety grounds including the risk of cannabis being diverted to an illegal market or activity,” the memo stated.

As of March 31, 2025, Health Canada had refused or revoked more than 4,100 registrations, including approximately 3,400 for reasons tied specifically to public health and public safety.

The department did not disclose how many active distributors lost licences over allegations of diverting product into the black market.

In a social media post on Feb. 17, the CFIA said the Loblaws’ subsidiary committed a violation under the Safe Food for Canadians Act “related to misleading Product of Canada product displays.”

The store in question is Real Canadian Superstore (Store No. 1033), located at 51 Gerry Fitzgerald Dr. in Toronto, according to the company’s website.

The CFIA’s post did not specify which products prompted the fine but included a link to its website explaining how the agency can enforce actions, such as with an administrative monetary penalty, for non-compliance “that could put Canadians at risk or damage Canada’s international reputation.”

A statement from the food regulator likewise did not specify which products were involved, though it noted that the Superstore had used “maple leaf advertising decals” alongside foreign products.

“In this instance, the penalty related to an in-store retail display with maple leaf advertising decals placed next to a product information tag for products not originating from Canada. El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, a Trump ally, has defended his anti-crime policies, which transformed El Salvador from one of the most dangerous countries in the world to one of the safest in the Americas.

“The war of incentives is never going to be won,” he said. “So we understood, by force and with blows, that the only way was to go after the gang member and arrest him.”

His Territorial Control Plan transitioned from traditional policing to a massive military-led crackdown following a spike in violence in March 2022.

Under a declared State of Exception, Bukele imposed a “régimen de excepción” that suspended constitutional rights, including the right to legal counsel, freedom of assembly, and the requirement for a warrant before arrest.

Laws were changed to allow children as young as 12 to be tried as adults for gang crimes and to permit mass trials in which hundreds of defendants are processed simultaneously.

He constructed the CECOT (Center for the Confinement of Terrorism), a high-tech mega-prison designed to hold 40,000 inmates in austere conditions, severing their contact with the outside world. As of early 2026, more than 94,000 people have been arrested.

In Bukele’s words, the way to deal with the gang member is “not to punish him, but to get him out of society. He has to be out of the equation.”

He argues the program’s effectiveness is reflected in the numbers. Before the crackdown, the homicide rate was 103 per 100,000. Now it is 1.3 per 100,000. Gangs once controlled 80 percent of the country.

Additionally, she said that ‘Jeffrey Epstein has told me that he has slept with over 1,000 of Brunel’s girls, and everything that I have seen confirms this claim’.

In her posthumous memoir ‘Nobody’s Girl’, Giuffre added: “I’ll never forget how Epstein and Brunel looked at one another as they abused girls side by side. They were truly gloating, taking a mutual malignant pleasure in our misfortune.”

A federal hate crimes bill would extend criminal penalties to anyone accused of obstructing indigenous sacred sites — including areas identified as unmarked graves — according to an internal Department of Justice memo that was not highlighted when the legislation was introduced.

Blacklock's Reporter says Attorney General Sean Fraser tabled Bill C-9, An Act To Amend The Criminal Code, on September 19, outlining new offences aimed at intimidation and obstruction at places of worship.

However, departmental briefing materials show the scope of the bill would go further.

“It is the intention of the government that Indigenous peoples and their religious and cultural spaces received equal protections under Bill C-9,” said a memo titled Supplemental Questions And Answers.

The legislation creates a new offence of obstruction for the purpose of intimidation at places of worship.

In an earlier backgrounder, the justice department said the proposed offences would protect buildings primarily used for religious worship — including synagogues, mosques, churches, temples and gurdwaras — as well as cemeteries and facilities used by an identifiable group for administrative, social, cultural or sports purposes.

But the internal memo stated the bill would also apply to areas designated as sacred by indigenous groups, whether or not the land is formally recognized as a cemetery. Continue…

The spending was approved even as ministers publicly claimed they were cutting unnecessary expenditures.

The previous Conservative government had closed the Milan office in 2007, assigning emergency consular services to a local lawyer at minimal cost.

Records indicate cabinet decided in 2020 to reopen the consulate and spent three years transforming the space into what officials described as an energy-efficient showpiece.

RCMP say they are investigating threats that have circulated online and within the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., on the same day that the funeral for one of the victims in the mass shooting had to be cancelled.

Police did not offer specifics on the threats but said on Saturday that officers have connected with the mayor and community leaders to ensure ongoing communication and public safety planning.

“The RCMP is aware of threats that have circulated online and within the community and we can confirm that an investigation is under way. A safety plan is in place for the individual(s) and community as the investigation continues,” the statement said.

A message posted online by the Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce and attributed to the family of Kylie Smith, who died in the shooting at the local secondary school, said her service had to be cancelled and that the family had been “moved to a safe location.”

It said the family “couldn’t risk anymore violence in this amazing town.”

“From what we are hearing, we are at least the third family of the deceased to be harassed or threatened by people from their past since this awful tragedy took place, Like we aren’t all dealing with enough already,” the message said.

Transport Canada has certified two Gulfstream business jets after U.S. President Donald Trump recently threatened to decertify Canadian-made aircraft in response to Canada’s delay in certifying several Gulfstream jet models.

The Canadian regulator certified the Gulfstream G500 and G600 on Feb. 15, according to a certificate document posted on Transport Canada’s website.

The certificate says the aircraft meet the “standards of airworthiness” required by the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

Two more vacancies are reportedly opening at the U.S. Court of Appeals that will allow President Donald Trump to increase his footprint over the federal judiciary.

Just the News reported, “Last week, Chief Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton, of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Cincinnati, and Chief Judge Debra Ann Livingston of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City, announced their plans to assume senior status later this year. Both judges were appointed by President George W. Bush.”

Senior status is a form of semi-retirement, and it creates a vacancy for a new appointee.

The Sixth Circuit has a Republican-appointed majority, while the Second Circuit has a one-seat majority for Democrat-appointed judges.

The Second Circuit presents a more consequential opening for Trump, “[g]iven its prominent role in cases involving financial regulation, national security, and major civil litigation, a conservative appointment could have a meaningful impact,” according to Just the News.

Heritage Foundation’s Judicial Appointments Tracker indicates that Trump appointed 26 federal judges last year, compared to 39 for Joe Biden and 12 for Barack Obama during their first year in office.

At the same point in his first term, Trump had filled 19 judicial slots, so appointments are moving at a faster clip this time around.

Canadian officials have summoned senior OpenAI representatives to Ottawa to answer questions about the tech company’s safety protocols after it confirmed it did not alert police about an account linked to mass shooter Jesse Van Rutselaar.

Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon said on Monday that OpenAI’s senior safety officials will come to Ottawa on Tuesday to outline how the company decides when to notify law enforcement.

Van Rutselaar, the 18-year-old transgender person, killed nine people in a small British Columbia town earlier this month before committing suicide.

OpenAI confirmed the meeting, saying senior leaders will discuss “our overall approach to safety, the safeguards in place, and how they are continuously strengthened.” The meeting follows the company’s disclosure that it banned Van Rutselaar’s account in June 2025 for “furthering violent activities” but did not notify Canadian authorities.

Solomon said he was “deeply disturbed” by reports that the company suspended the account without contacting police. Continue…
