An alliance of law enforcement agencies across Canada seized 386 kilograms of fentanyl and analogues in less than half a year, with the bulk of the seizures taking place in Ontario and British Columbia, the RCMP says.

The national initiative, dubbed the National Fentanyl Sprint 2.0, was coordinated by the Canadian Integrated Response to Organized Crime (CIROC), and involved more than 100 law enforcement and intelligence agencies across the country in an effort to combat fentanyl trafficking in Canada.

“The results we are sharing today speak to the dedication, collaboration, and tenacity of law enforcement members nationwide,” RCMP Assistant Commissioner Bonnie Ferguson said during a Dec. 2 media briefing. “Agencies [are] working aggressively to disrupt fentanyl importation, production, and trafficking.”

The initiative ran from May 20 to Oct. 31 as law enforcement focused their efforts on fentanyl traffickers by targeting production labs, distribution networks, and financial enablers, carrying out 1,068 search warrants that led to 8,136 arrests and charges, the RCMP said in a Dec. 2 news release. Tens of millions were spent by the RCMP on Chinese-made drones that pose a “high security” risk and will cost up to $34.1 million to replace, exceeding twice the initial investment, according to a government report.

The internal report presented to the Senate national security committee indicates that 973 drones, making up 79 percent of the RCMP’s 1,228-drone fleet, were manufactured in China.

The Chinese-made units pose significant security risks regarding data management and supply chain integrity, according to the report, which was submitted by RCMP last month and released to the public Nov. 27, as first covered by Blacklock’s Reporter.

The RCMP said the drones are deployed under restrictions that the Mounties put in place in June 2023. These include only using local data mode while drones are flying, using offline data storage on police servers, ongoing security checks of the units, and avoiding using them for any sensitive investigations or responses. Prime Minister Mark Carney told the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) that the Liberal government will approve major projects in consultation with First Nations, hours after the body’s chiefs unanimously voted to call for Ottawa and Alberta to withdraw their recently signed pipeline deal.

“Canada’s new government is committed to working directly with you to build stronger nation-to-nation relationships … The question is not what we’re against, but what we’re for, what we want to build together, because this approach must be informed by and can only move forward with First Nations,” Carney told the AFN in Ottawa on Dec. 2.

Carney said that the Building Canada Act, which is meant to streamline federal approval processes for major infrastructure projects deemed to be in the national interest, must “by law, advance the interests of indigenous peoples.” He said the Major Projects Office, created to coordinate the financing and federal regulatory approval process for major infrastructure projects, has also held regional engagements with First Nations.

Earlier in the day at the AFN’s annual December meeting, the chiefs voted unanimously to demand that the federal government and Alberta withdraw the pipeline deal. According to a statement released on Wednesday, short-term contracts will end within six months, and all remaining pipeline and LNG supplies are to stop by the end of 2027. A ban on new gas transit deals with Russia takes effect on January 1, 2026, though existing agreements can continue. Pipeline imports under long-term contracts must end by September 30, 2027, with a possible short extension if storage levels require it. A suspension clause allows temporary pauses if sudden events threaten energy supplies.

"This is a good day for Europe and for our independence from Russian fossil fuels. This is how we make Europe resilient,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters on Wednesday.

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit is not identifying the suspect or schools to protect the victims, who have been offered support services.

“In the criminal code, child sexual abuse and exploitation material includes photos, videos, and any visual representation of someone under the age of 18, or depicted as being under 18, engaged in explicit sexual activity,” said S/Sgt. Mark Auger of ICE.

Police executed a search warrant at the teen’s Calgary home on November 13, seizing two cell phones, a tablet, and a laptop.

Canada’s defence minister said the country will be purchasing military equipment from the United States in order to send it to Ukraine, with a value of $200 million.

Defence Minister David McGuinty said in a statement that the “package of critical military capabilities” will be sourced under NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) in partnership with other NATO allies.

“By contributing to this PURL package in partnership with our Allies, we are ensuring Ukraine receives the advanced capabilities it urgently needs to defend its sovereignty and protect its people,” McGuinty said on Dec. 3.

The PURL initiative, launched in August, is meant to support Ukraine’s military needs in its war with Russia. Canada has contributed around $892 million to PURL, and $6.5 billion in overall military assistance since February 2022, and nearly $22 billion in overall funding to Ukraine since the start of the war.

At the meeting of NATO ministers of foreign affairs on Dec. 3 in Brussels, Belgium, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand also announced that Ottawa would provide $35 million in funding for NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) for Ukraine.

The federal government was aware that Algoma Steel was restructuring and could lay off workers when it provided the company a $400 million loan a few weeks ago, according to CEO Michael Garcia.

Algoma, based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., provided a four-month layoff notice to 1,000 employees on Dec. 1.

The company said the 50 percent U.S. tariffs on steel have made blast-furnace steelmaking “no longer viable” and has expedited its transition to Electric Arc Furnace steelmaking. This steelmaking process requires only 1,600 employees compared to the 3,000 required for blast furnace and coke oven operations.

This was “always the future of the company,” Garcia told CTV News on Dec. 2. He said the transition was expected to take place in 2027, but came earlier due to the vital U.S. market effectively closing off.

Garcia said the federal government was aware of the company’s plan when it provided the loan in late September.

“It knows the pivot that we had to make. It knew very well the extreme pressure the company was under. I don’t think anybody would loan the company half a billion dollars without asking very detailed questions about what our business plan was,” he said. Continue…

The Edmonton Police Service is testing new body-worn camera technology powered by machine learning, aiming to help officers in the field identify “dangerous” individuals and those with outstanding arrest warrants for serious crimes.

To do that, the police service said the mug shots of nearly 7,000 individuals have been compiled into a database for officers to assess the real-time effectiveness of the facial recognition body-worn cameras provided by public safety technology company Axon Enterprise Inc.

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) will be the first in the world to test the cameras, says Acting Supt. Kurt Martin, who is part of the force’s information and analytics division. The program launches Dec. 3, with up to 50 officers using the facial recognition-enabled body worn video cameras during their shifts for the rest of the month.

Martin told reporters at a Dec. 2 press conference that the force’s main goal for the pilot project is to potentially add “another tool in our operations toolbox” to increase the safety of the public and its officers.

“If this technology can help us identify some of the suspects in our database who are wanted for serious criminal warrants, we want to explore that as an option,” he said. “That’s really what this testing is about. It’s about empowering our officers to be informed about safety risks to themselves and to the public, as well as giving them a tool to help them in real world operations in near real time.”

The Nov. 28 report from provincial non-profit organization Food Banks BC says that B.C.’s food bank system is nearing a “breaking point,” and is seeing a troubling rise in children and employed individuals using food banks.

The report notes 11 percent of B.C. food banks have had to turn people away this year after running out of supplies.

“The charitable system that props up this essential service is being pushed closer to breaking point, with the demand growing at a time when donations of food and funds continue to drop,” writes Food Banks BC Executive Director Dan Huang-Taylor in a foreword to the report. “Many charitable organizations, particularly in rural communities, are facing an existential crisis.” Continue…

Meanwhile, visits are up 13 percent over the previous year with a total of 8,712,897 food bank visits recorded in 2024-2025. This marks a 165 percent increase since 2019-2020.

“For nearly a decade, Ontario’s Food Bank network has faced record high demand, and this year is no exception,” Feed Ontario CEO Carolyn Stewart said in the 2025 Hunger Report, noting that food bank usage has been on the rise for nine years. Continue…

A letter sent to the House Government Operations Committee by Stellantis appears to contradict testimony by top Industry Canada (ISED) officials last week that redactions to the agreement sent to MPs — who demanded unredacted copies — were requested by the auto giant.

In response to the letter, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly told National Post Tuesday that her department would finally release the unredacted agreement to the committee after repeatedly refusing to do so.

“I received the letter (from Stellantis) earlier. There’s no problem, we’ll remove the redactions and send it to the committee,” Joly said.

Hungary and Slovakia continue to buy energy supplies from Russia, even after other European Union nations cut ties following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.”

Officials in Slovakia and Hungary said that oil supplies through Druzhba were running normally.

“Ukraine attacked the pipeline once in March, twice in August and once in September this year.”

Hungary’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the attack against the Druzhba oil pipeline inflicted ‘insignificant damage’.

It has been a few weeks since Elissa Slotkin, Mark Kelly, and other Democrats released their outrageous video suggesting that members of the U.S. Military should refuse supposedly ‘illegal’ orders from President Trump. People are still talking about it because we have never really seen anything like it before now.

What the Democrats tried to do here is pretty simple to understand. They are trying to drive a wedge between our military and President Trump, the Commander in Chief. It’s the sort of thing that the CIA does during color revolutions in foreign countries and Elissa Slotkin is former CIA.

A fresh Order Paper response shows that Canada has brought in over 2,100 temporary foreign worker (TFW) hairstylists since 2015 with demand accelerating sharply in recent years, despite plenty of unemployed or underemployed workers already in the country.

Nearly 300 hairstylists have been approved so far this year alone, more than triple the number approved a decade ago. In 2015, just 90 foreign hairstylists entered Canada under the TFW program. Now, Ottawa is rubber-stamping them at record levels.

And no province appears more dependent on imported hair-cutters than British Columbia, which accounts for roughly half of all TFW hairstylists brought into Canada. B.C. has quadrupled its intake compared to 2015 rising from 50 to 215.

The other provinces aren’t far behind:

Alberta has quintupled its numbers, jumping from 30 to 150 last year.

Ontario has increased its intake sevenfold, from 10 to 75.

The data raises obvious questions: How did Canada, a country with tens of thousands of trained stylists, widespread underemployment, and stagnant wages in the service sector, become so reliant on importing barbers and hairstylists to keep salons staffed?

And why are governments allowing employers to use the TFW program to fill roles that Canadians have traditionally done, and still can do?

According to figures tabled by the Treasury Board Secretariat in response to a question from MP Vincent Neil Ho, six federal public servants took home more than $500,000 in total compensation last year (salary plus bonuses, benefits, and overtime). While that’s down from the 17 who hit the same threshold in the two previous years, the rest of the pay ladder is skyrocketing.

Here’s the year-over-year reality check:

42 federal employees earned over $400,000 last year.

654 earned over $300,000, nearly double the year before (340).

1,399 earned more than $250,000, up from 887.

4,960 earned over $200,000, a jump of more than 1,300 from the previous year’s 3,609.

Even the $150,000-and-up cohort once reserved for top executives has ballooned to 20,200 employees.

These compensation totals include cash payouts such as bonuses, overtime, and retroactive payments from long-standing payroll issues. They exclude pension and benefit contributions, meaning the real taxpayer burden is even higher.

On the salary-rate side (excluding bonuses and extras), the number of federal workers making more than $150,000 has jumped from 4,191 in 2020-21 to 12,971 today. Those earning over $300,000 have more than doubled over the same period.

The data covers the core public service and most separate agencies, excluding the RCMP, Canadian Armed Forces, CSIS, and a handful of non-Phoenix reporting bodies.

The agency has laid out plans for a rush order worth the equivalent of roughly CA$10 million for 20 Senator STANG emergency response tactical vehicles, according to U.S. government procurement records that indicate the order was published on Nov. 26 and a contract was awarded on Nov. 28.

A partially redacted ICE procurement document indicates Roshel, headquartered in Brampton, Ont., is the only defence manufacturer that has confirmed it can fulfill the department’s order in its required 30-day timeline.

A Chinese dissident who died in a kayaking accident in British Columbia was allegedly being targeted by Chinese secret police agents at the time of his death, according to evidence from a former Chinese spy.

The former spy, known by the pseudonym “Eric,” who defected to Australia in 2023 and spoke with Australia’s ABC News last year, has now also shared with Canada’s public broadcaster his involvement in hunting Chinese dissidents around the world, according to a Dec. 4 Radio Canada report.

Eric allegedly worked for 15 years as an undercover agent for China’s Ministry of Public Security to monitor dissidents abroad. He told Radio Canada, the French arm of CBC, that he believes the public has the right to know what the Chinese police are doing.

ABC reported that Eric had fled to Australia from China in 2023 and provided Australia’s intelligence agency with hundreds of documents, financial records, photos, and encrypted messages, narrating his history as an undercover agent.

To support the allegations, Eric showed the reporters the contents of his phone, including financial documents, clandestine money transfers, names of individuals involved in espionage, and thousands of text and video messages.

Eric was responsible for monitoring Chinese dissident Hua Yong, who died “mysteriously” while kayaking off the B.C. coast in late 2022 after finding refuge there, he told Radio Canada. Continue…

Enoch Burke: Irish School Teacher Jailed Following His Stance Against Transgender Ideology

Irish teacher Enoch Burke was arrested and jailed in November 2025. He was charged with contempt of court, and authorities insist this has nothing to do with his refusal to use a transgender student’s preferred pronouns.

Technically, they are correct that his imprisonment stems from repeated violations of a court order barring him from returning to the school during his suspension.

However, it is also true that the entire case began with his refusal to give in to transgender ideology, which led to his suspension in the first place. Burke was a teacher at Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, Ireland.

In 2022 the school instructed staff to refer to a transgender student by a new name and the “they/them” pronoun, and Burke refused to comply.

After he publicly objected at a school event and confronted school leadership, he was suspended pending disciplinary proceedings.

The school then obtained a court injunction barring him from its premises for the duration of his suspension.

Despite that order, Burke repeatedly returned to the school, prompting officials to seek court enforcement. He has since been found in contempt of court multiple times.

In late November 2025, a High Court judge ordered his committal to prison again, describing his repeated attendance as trespass and noting that fines were no longer effective.

Along with jail time, Burke is now facing fines exceeding 225,000 euros.

Tehran is seeking to signal to its enemies that it has both regrouped and reconstituted its missiles and military assets after many hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles - including potentially hypersonic projectiles - were expended against Israel.

A 29-year-old Afghan migrant has been sentenced to six years in prison for stabbing a 27-year-old teacher at random on the street, in the middle of the day, in the German city of Kirchheim unter Teck.

However, despite stabbing his victim four times in the back and twice in the thigh, the fact that the Afghan stopped stabbing her once she screamed was enough to convince the court in Stuttgart to drop the attempted murder charge.

On March 14 of this year, the teacher was seriously injured while walking home from work. The 29-year-old, who did not know his victim, walked up to her from behind in a residential area and grabbed her neck. With his other hand, he began stabbing her in the back with a 9.5-centimeter knife four times. He then stabbed her twice in her thigh.

The woman began screaming, at which time, her attacker let her go and ran away.

Based on the fact that he stopped stabbing her and ran away, the court claimed this was a “withdrawal from attempted murder,” according to reporting from Yvonne Kussman for Aktuelle Informiert. As Statista's Anna Fleck shows in this infographic, British overseas territories and crown dependencies dominate the top eight roundup of places allowing multinationals to avoid paying tax on their profits.

Overall, this makes the UK responsible for about one third of global tax avoidance risk.

Ireland remained in ninth place for a second consecutive year in 2025, with an index value of 1,432.

It is followed by Luxembourg (1,399) and then the Bahamas (1,283), the latter of which is an independent member of the British commonwealth but not an OT or CD. In position 12 comes the Isle of Man (1,189) and in 13 comes Guernsey (1,145), both Crown Dependencies. The United Kingdom places in 19th position with a value of 865.

The index evaluates jurisdiction laws and monitors the volume of corporate financial activity entering and leaving jurisdictions. A Haven Score is determined by more than 70 questions under 18 indicators to find the extent to which a jurisdiction’s laws and regulations allow for corporate tax abuse. The public inquiry into the death of Dawn Sturgess concluded that Putin had ordered the 2018 Novichok attack by GRU agents on Sergei Skripal, a Russian defector and former GRU colonel, in Salisbury, Wiltshire, which eventually resulted in the death of Sturgess, who had no connection to Skripal or Russia.

“The Salisbury poisonings shocked the nation and today’s findings are a grave reminder of the Kremlin’s disregard for innocent lives,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement. “Dawn’s needless death was a tragedy and will forever be a reminder of Russia’s reckless aggression. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones.”

The doctor who led an investigation into deaths following COVID-19 vaccination is now the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) top drug regulator, the agency announced on Dec. 3.

Dr. Tracy Beth Hoeg, who had been a senior adviser to FDA leadership, has been appointed acting director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).

Dr. Richard Pazdur, a longtime FDA official who was head of the center, is retiring, the FDA said this week. Pazdur was appointed in November, after the previous center director resigned after he was accused in a lawsuit of illegally targeting a company by saying its FDA-approved product has “significant toxicity.”

CDER regulates drugs available over-the-counter and via prescriptions, including generic drugs and sunscreens. The center has nearly 5,000 employees; the FDA employs about 18,000 people.

Hoeg has worked in the past with Dr. Vinay Prasad, who heads the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), which regulates vaccines and other biological products and has about 1,150 workers; and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, including on a 2022 paper that estimated COVID-19 vaccine mandates at universities resulted in more harm than benefit. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Somali migrant in Minnesota who authorities say was convicted of welfare fraud in Canada and should not have been granted temporary status in the United States.

An immigration judge denied an asylum request from Abdul Dahir Ibrahim in 2004 because of a significant amount of fraud on his record, Fox News reported. However, Ibrahim was granted 10 years of temporary protected status, despite having an order of removal.

Ibrahim was seen in photos posing with Minnesota US House Rep Ilhan Omar, as well as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

This comes amid ICE’s Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis, which began on December 1. 12 people have been arrested so far, including five other Somalis, two of whom have also been convicted of fraud. Among others arrested in the operation so far include child sex offenders, gang members, and domestic abusers.

In a landmark 2–1 ruling issued Dec. 5, the Court of Appeal found that the B.C. Supreme Court’s 2023 decision dismissing a case involving mineral rights on the territory of the Ehattesaht and Gitxaala First Nations should have taken the province’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) into account in issuing a verdict, saying DRIPA “incorporates UNDRIP” into B.C. law.

“The [B.C. Supreme Court] judge erred in adopting an unduly narrow approach to the legal effect of the Declaration Act and UNDRIP. Properly interpreted, the Declaration Act incorporates UNDRIP into the positive law of British Columbia with immediate legal effect,” Justice Gail Dickson wrote for the majority, with Justice Nitya Iyer concurring.

An Alberta judge has ruled that a proposed referendum question on the province’s separation from Canada would contravene the Constitution.

Court of King’s Bench Justice Colin Feasby said in a Dec. 5 decision filed in Calgary that a proposed separation-referendum question from the sovereignty advocacy group Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) would be unconstitutional because it doesn’t guarantee the rights protected by the Canadian Constitution.

The decision came less than a day after the Alberta government tabled Bill 14, that, if passed, would have discontinued the court proceeding as part of measures aimed at reducing delays for citizen-initiated petitions.

Feasby said in his decision that the province’s move to potentially halt the court case amounted to silencing the court. He had been hearing arguments on the constitutionality of the APP’s question after Alberta’s chief electoral officer Gordon McClure in late July referred the question to the court.

“Contrary to the pending [Bill 14], this case cannot be discontinued, and the Court cannot be silenced because the case has been decided,” Feasby wrote. “These reasons are delivered despite the anticipated change to the law because reason giving is democratic.”

The fact that Syria's head of state got his start working for ISIS, and was a founding member of Syrian al-Qaeda, continues to produce embarrassing headlines.

One full year after former president Bashar al-Assad was overthrown and fled to Moscow, Canada has very belatedly removed President Ahmed al-Sharaa's militia group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, according to a Friday statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry. As part of the new action, Syria has also been removed from its list of state sponsors of terrorism (a list the country had been on over many years of the Assad government).

Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, founded and for years headed up the terror group HTS in Idlib province. HTS is the group that took control of Damascus after the collapse of the Syrian army in December 2024.

"Following extensive review, the Government of Canada has removed Syria from Canada's List of Foreign State Supporters of Terrorism under the State Immunity Act, as well as removed Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from the List of Terrorist Entities under the Canadian Criminal Code," the ministry said.

The US was the first to act, having lifted a $10 million bounty on Sharaa within the months after he seized power, followed by a full US delisting.

The Canadian foreign ministry further said that the decision was "not taken lightly." It stated, "These measures are in line with recent decisions taken by our allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States, and follow the efforts by the Syrian transitional government to advance Syria's stability, build an inclusive and secure future for its citizens, and work alongside global partners to reinforce regional stability and counter terrorism."

So Canada seems to be admitting that HTS is indeed linked to al-Qaeda, and was properly designated in years past as a terror group, but that now it is merely going along with its allies the UK and US which removed the legal designation earlier. Continue…

International medical graduates given another chance to apply for Ontario residencies

Ottawa’s Ashok Kumar Biswas is among the internationally trained doctors who are celebrating after being given second chances to apply for medical residency positions in Ontario.

Biswas, who attended medical school in India and has two post-graduate medical degrees, has been working for six years to be able to practise medicine in Canada, which is now his home.

He was preparing to apply for a medical residency in Ontario this fall when the Ontario government abruptly introduced a new policy that upended his plans. That policy disqualified most internationally trained medical graduates from the first round of the highly competitive residency matching program.

At the time, Biswas said his hopes of ever practising medicine in Canada were fading.

This past week, however, he and other international medical graduates learned the program was being expanded so they could apply after a judge granted an injunction against the controversial Ontario policy.

Biswas said he was grateful.

“At least we are getting a fair chance to submit our applications,” he said. “Getting a chance is all it takes.”

Under the policy change, the only internationally trained physicians eligible for the first-round of crucial residency matching would have been those who had done at least two years of high school in Ontario. That would include Ontario residents who left the province to attend medical school elsewhere and then returned to practise.

A Russian military transport aircraft has crashed while performing a test flight following recent maintenance, the Defense Ministry has reported.

The An-22 Antey aircraft came down on Tuesday in a remote area in Ivanovo Region, 360km (220 miles) from Moscow, the ministry said, adding that a search and rescue team has been dispatched to the crash site to determine the fate of the crew.

A commission from the Russian Air Force will also travel to the location to investigate the circumstances of the crash, the Defense Ministry said.

TASS cited sources as saying that the crash had occurred near the Uvodskoye Reservoir, with parts of the aircraft found in the water. An unnamed source told the agency that the incident had claimed the lives of all seven crew members.

The An-22 Antey is the world’s largest turboprop aircraft, developed in 1965 in the Soviet Union. The aircraft has a maximum payload of around 60 tons and has set 41 world aviation records. It can transport up to 290 soldiers or 29 crew members accompanying cargo over long distances.
