The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) late last week announced that a distributor is recalling its FDA-regulated products because of the presence of bird and rodent feces at a Minneapolis facility.
Minneapolis-based Gold Star Distribution Inc. said on Dec. 26 that it’s recalling all of its FDA-regulated products including over-the-counter cold and flu medications, dietary supplements, pet foods, cosmetics, medical devices, and foods that were distributed in locations primarily in Minnesota.
The reason for the action is “potential Salmonella contamination, presence of rodent and avian contamination, and insanitary conditions during the storage process,” the FDA said in a description of the recall.
According to a statement from Gold Star, people who consume or handle the products may become ill because of “adulteration from pests, including rodents, birds and insects.” The FDA found that the company facilities harbored “rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held.”
“These conditions create a significant risk that products held at the facility may have been contaminated with filth and harmful microorganisms,” it said.
No illnesses have been reported so far, according to the FDA notice. Continue…

The Mexican Secretary of the Navy informed through an official statement that nine crew members and 241 passengers were travelling aboard the train at the time its main engine derailed.

Ontario rules coming into force in the new year will require employers to list pay in public job postings and prohibit requirements for Canadian work experience.
The changes will come into effect on Jan. 1 under Ontario’s Employment Standards Act and will apply to employers with 25 or more employees on the day the job posting is advertised.
Under the new rules, employers will be required to include information about expected compensation for the position. If a salary range is used, the difference between the minimum and maximum must not be so broad that it exceeds $50,000 per year.
Employers will not need to follow this requirement if the expected compensation is more than $200,000 per year or if the top end of the range is more than $200,000 per year.
The changes will also prohibit employers from requiring in job postings or applications that applicants must have Canadian work experience.
Additionally, employers will be required to disclose in job postings whether artificial intelligence will be used during the hiring process and whether the posting is for an existing job vacancy. Continue…

Durham police have arrested 64 people and laid 155 charges following a weeks-long investigation into retail theft.
The “safe shop” initiative ran for five weeks—between Nov. 10 and Dec. 16—and involved members of Durham Regional Police’s East Division Community Response Unit (CRU) focusing on retail theft enforcement.
“Members of the CRU Unit, with the assistance of front-line officers, worked in partnership with the LCBO Resource Protection Unit to identify high theft locations across Durham Region,” Durham Regional Police said in a Dec. 26 media release.
Officers maintained a “highly visible presence” in the identified locations in Ontario’s Durham Region throughout the initiative in an effort to deter criminal activity, Durham police said.
The initiative led to the arrest of 64 individuals and 155 charges, the police unit said. Of the 64 arrests, 17 arrests resulted in 32 charges that were related to thefts at LCBO locations. Additionally, 38 of the 155 total charges included breach-related offences, police say.

Toronto’s new $60 MILLION hockey arena is INSANE!

Toronto is known to many as the hockey capital of the world. While they haven’t won anything in recent years (and, well, even in not so recent years), there’s no denying that Toronto LOVES their hockey.
As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. So a new $60M arena build just outside Toronto in Richmond Hill is a deafeningly loud action.
Heavily involved in the whole process is former Leafs star Gary Roberts, who has subsequently worked his way into becoming a world class hockey trainer. The rink has become a stomping grounds for players like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, and many more.
To really put the new facility to the test, we have Hyman and Roberts give Jesse the gears in a full tour and training day at the Honey and Barry Memorial Arena!
Jesse even got on the ice with some hockey players that, well… may be a little out of his league (literally).
While Jesse undoubtedly walked away from the day sore and bruised, it was no doubt one for the memory bank. Looking forward to returning again soon!

“He’s a wartime prime minister who’s a hero. How do you not give a pardon?” Trump, while standing alongside Netanyahu, told reporters ahead of a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
“I spoke to the president … he tells me it’s on its way.”
Trump suggested the fate of Israel would be far worse if Netanyahu had not been in charge during recent crises—including the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks.
“If you had the wrong prime minister right now, Israel would not exist,” Trump said.
“They were met with a force the likes of which very few countries could have handled.”
Herzog’s office, nevertheless, issued a statement that appeared to contradict Trump’s comments.

Toronto Public Health is sounding the alarm after a spike in opioid overdose calls in the city throughout the holiday season.
Toronto Paramedic Services responded to 122 suspected cases of opioid overdoses between Dec. 20 and Dec. 28, marking a 35 percent rise from the average call volume for similar periods in the past two years, the public health department said in a Dec. 29 alert.
The increase in calls did not lead to a similar escalation in fatalities, however. Public health said there were fewer than five deaths associated with opioids, a figure that matches last year’s count.
The alert also pointed to an increase in the average number of daily calls in December compared to the previous 11 months of 2025, noting that overdoses are “occurring throughout the city.”
“The holiday season can be a challenging time for some,” the advisory reads. “Feelings of stress or social isolation may intensify at this time of year, which can affect people’s substance use.”

Iran’s foreign ministry said its decision was made “within the framework of reciprocity” as it relates to Ottawa’s 2024 decision to classify the IRGC as a terrorist entity, a move it said in a statement is “contrary to the fundamental principles of international law.”
It cited a piece of Iranian legislation enacted in 2019 that allows the country to apply the designation to “all countries that in any way comply with or support the decision of the United States of America to declare the (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.”
Formed after the 1979 Iranian revolution and now considered a “pillar” of the nation’s armed forces, the IRGC is a militia that controls vast business empires and operates armed and intelligence forces with little to no civilian oversight. Its more than 150,000 members oversee Iran’s missile program and nuclear efforts.
The U.S. first listed the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization in April 2019, during President Donald Trump’s first term. Canada, advancing its own efforts to rebuke the Iranian regime’s “unlawful actions and its support of terrorism,” followed suit last June.
“The Government of Canada has concluded after a deliberative process based on very, very strong and compelling evidence that the cabinet received that now is the time to list the IRGC as a criminal organization,” the Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc told reporters in Ottawa. Continue…
