Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has sharply criticized judicial decisions blocking the detention of migrants transferred to Albania, citing the case of a Moroccan rapist with a long criminal record whom authorities say they cannot detain or deport after he applied for international protection.

Speaking to RTL 102.5, Meloni said some court rulings preventing the continued detention of migrants transferred to Italian processing centers in Albania were “surreal” and undermined public safety.

“I also wonder where the feminists are in the face of these events,” Meloni said during the interview, referring to the case of one of the migrants, Moroccan national Fathallah Ouardi, who had been transferred to Albania but was later returned to Italy after judges refused to validate his detention.

Meloni said the man had a lengthy criminal record. “The record of one of these migrants includes convictions for drug dealing, resisting a public official, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, and gang rape,” she said, as cited by Secolo d’Italia.

According to the prime minister, the court rejected the detention order after the migrant applied for international protection.

“This is someone who entered Italy illegally, started dealing drugs, and gang-raped a woman — we can’t detain him, we can’t send him to Albania, we can’t repatriate him, and we’re almost forced to grant him international protection,” she said, adding that such decisions raise serious questions about the protection of victims and public confidence in the justice system.

“How can we guarantee the safety of citizens like this?” she asked. “These decisions are surreal; they affect not the government’s work but citizens’ rights, first and foremost, the right to safety.”

The mother of 12‑year‑old Maya Gebala, who remains hospitalized after the shooting in Tumbler Ridge on February 10 that left nine dead, stated in the lawsuit that the tech company failed to notify authorities about violent chat prompts from the shooter.

Jesse Van Rootselaar, the 18-year-old transgender shooter, committed suicide after killing several students in one of the worst incidents in Canadian history.

The lawsuit, filed in the British Columbia Supreme Court, alleges that OpenAI had “specific knowledge of the shooter utilizing ChatGPT to plan a mass casualty event like the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting” but did not alert law enforcement.

Let’s start with the basics. For over a century, Canada’s Criminal Code included Section 181, a provision that made it a crime to “wilfully publish a statement, tale or news that he knows is false and that causes or is likely to cause injury or mischief to a public interest.” Violators could face up to two years in prison. This law traced its roots back to 13th-century England, designed originally to shield the powerful from slander. In Canada, it was rarely used, but it hung there as a potential check on blatant falsehoods.

The turning point came in 1992 with the case of R. v. Zundel. Independent media organizations are being shut out from asking questions of the federal immigration minister after the department introduced a policy requiring journalists to meet government-approved criteria before receiving responses.

Blacklock's Report says the office of Lena Diab declined to comment on the policy Tuesday after refusing inquiries from non-approved outlets.

According to a Department of Immigration notice, only journalists representing organizations that meet specific standards will be granted access to media relations services.

The notice states the department must be satisfied that reporters are “media professionals who represent bona fide media organizations,” using criteria similar to the “qualified journalism designation” outlined in the Income Tax Act (Canada).

However, the act itself does not define journalism. Instead, the designation is determined by the Canada Revenue Agency for the purpose of deciding which newsrooms qualify for federal journalism subsidies.

CRA guidance published in 2019 indicated that eligible organizations must meet several requirements, including demonstrating a consistent practice of allowing those being criticized — including federal departments — to respond.

The guidance also referenced expectations that outlets publish government statements in certain circumstances.

Government departments have frequently contacted media outlets seeking changes or corrections to reporting.

“The Government of Canada will exercise its full authorities under the Investment Canada Act and ensure the full implementation and enforcement of the measures committed to by TikTok Canada,” Joly said.

Louis Callaghan was the captain of a Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) ship patrolling the coast of Prince Edward Island on May 13, 2024, when a fishing vessel ran aground in nearby Malpeque Harbour, and was taking on water, adjudicator Christopher Rootham of the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board noted in the Jan. 30 decision.

Another fishing boat tried to help the sinking vessel and made a mayday call at 8:26 a.m. The call lasted about three minutes, then a second message was broadcast at 8:33 a.m. The CCG ship’s log show it was about 6.27 nautical miles (11.6 kilometres) from the entrance to Malpeque Harbour.

Godefroid Masusu Gupa worked for the Agence nationale de renseignement (ANR), a counter-espionage group in the Democratic Republic of Congo with a track record of human rights abuses, between 1987 and 2017. He rose through the ranks over the decades, becoming the “second assistant director of the counter-espionage division” as the organization established a reputation for widespread human rights violations.

“It is not in dispute that during this period, the ANR committed arbitrary arrests, extrajudicial executions and torture, which amounted to crimes against humanity,” Justice Sébastien Grammond said in a ruling published in January.

Gupa filed his Basis of Claim (BOC) requesting refugee status in Canada in December 2017, shortly after arriving in Montreal for an official trip as an ANR representative. His application was rejected by the Refugee Protection Division. He challenged the ruling before the Refugee Appeal Division, but lost in November 2021. The Canadian passport has retained a spot in the top 10 of an annual international mobility ranking of passports.

This year it remains at seven, a ranking it shares with six other countries whose passports open 182 doors without a visa.

The Henley Passport Index says it collects exclusive passport data from the International Air Transport Authority. It compares 199 passports and 227 destinations.

“Updated monthly, the Henley Passport Index is considered the standard reference tool for global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum,” according to the Index’s site.

This year, Canada shares seventh spot with Australia, Czechia, Latvia, New Zealand, Slovakia and Slovenia. Canadians now have visa-free access to 182 countries, up from 181 in January, having received a recent passport boost from China.

According to Edelman, this event has taken place for years, using the FDNY auditorium at the Metrotech Plaza as a venue.

However, Edelman said, this appears to have been the first time prayer rugs were put in the lobby next to the plaque.

Another plaque is out of the shot, listing the 409 firefighters who died of various illnesses as a result of their heroism that day.

New York Republican Councilwoman Joann Ariola reportedly had over 20 complaints come to her office from 9/11 first responders and relatives upon learning about the event.

One current firefighter said, “As someone who respects the sacrifices made by all FDNY members, I believe the Muslim group involved, along with city leadership (including the Mayor), showed a real lack of sensitivity.”

The firefighter added that “the auditorium, already in use as a dining hall, could easily have served a dual purpose for any ritual or gathering — keeping the memorial lobby untouched and focused on its solemn role.”

Canada’s Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations recently placed as “confidential” all files relating to $12.1 million paid to the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation for an alleged grave dig that turned up nothing to date.

The “confidential” file ruling comes, as reported by LifeSiteNews, after the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation recently admitted that its quest to find graves of hundreds of children on the site of former residential schools, which sparked massive arson attacks on Catholic churches across Canada, has come up empty.

The Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations recently released the censored reports from 2023; all of the main details were redacted as “confidential.”

Canadian military instillation in Kuwait hit by Iranian missiles

An investigation by La Presse has revealed that a Canadian military installation had been hit by Iranian missiles ten days ago, but the public or parliament had not been informed.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand confirmed the missile strike had happened during a press scrum on Thursday; she also added that no Canadian personnel were injured.

Iranian missiles hit the Ali Al-Salem Air Base, which contains military infrastructure from Kuwait, the United States, and Canada.

Camp Canada, as it's called, has been an active Canadian military installation for over ten years, and new satellite images show what appears to be damage inflicted to Canadian bunkers from Iranian missiles.

During the attack, Canadian personnel were able to shelter in the fortified bunkers on the base and walked away with any casualties.

Personnel at the base have reportedly been moved for their safety, although it's assumed that Canadian installations were not targeted deliberately by the Iranians.

The base has been used in Canada's ongoing Operation IMPACT, the Canadian forces' operations against the Islamic State, or ISIL.

It's unclear why it took so long for this news to be released, not just to the public, but, according to La Presse, to parliamentarians who were engaging in debate and discussion about possible Canadian involvement in the ongoing Iranian conflict.

When asked further about the situation on Thursday, Anita Anand said that the questions would be better suited to the defence minister, David McGuinty.

Downey, a black man, was sentenced to life in prison last month by B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes. A recently posted decision by Holmes says she rejected the Crown’s suggestion of no possibility of parole for a minimum of 15 years, opting instead for 12 years after considering Downey’s Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA).

IRCAs are pre-sentencing reports received by judges when the offender is black or “racialized,” according to Canada’s department of justice.

The reports are similar to Gladue reports, which take into account the background and circumstances of an indigenous accused. IRCAs inform sentencing judges of the “disadvantages and systemic racism” faced by black offenders and may recommend alternatives to incarceration or accountability measures within a sentence of incarceration. Bill C-22 creates a legal framework for a lawful access regime in Canada, and has been informed by the views of stakeholders and parliamentarians who had voiced “serious concerns” with Bill C-2, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said at a March 12 press conference announcing the new legislation.

“We listened to what they had to say, and this new legislation, Bill C-22, balances the needs of law enforcement with the privacy and civil rights that Canadians demand,” Anandasangaree said.

According to the report, statements by political leaders combined with stepped-up immigration enforcement have allegedly “sparked grave human rights violations.”

“Racist hate speech by political leaders, including the President, combined with intensified immigration crackdowns in the United States, notably near schools, hospitals, and faith-based institutions, has sparked grave human rights violations,” the committee said in a statement accompanying the report.

The panel also claimed it was “deeply disturbed by the growing use of derogatory and dehumanizing language” about illegal aliens.

“Portraying them as criminals or as a burden, by politicians and influential public figures at the highest level, particularly the President … may incite racial discrimination and hate crimes,” the report said.

The committee further accused federal immigration agencies such as ICE of “systematic use of racial profiling and arbitrary identity checks” against minorities.

Isabelle Aurelia Valdez, 15, who court documents and police reports identify as transgender and goes by the name “Jimmy,” allegedly stalked the victim for months because he reminded her of Lanza, the gunman who killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 before taking his own life.

According to Altamonte Springs Police reports and court filings, Valdez planned to lure the boy into an upstairs bathroom during his second-period class, push him into a stall, slash his throat or stab him in the stomach, drink his blood, and place flowers on his body.

Valdez is said to have believed the act would create a “blood bond” that would resurrect Lanza.

Her 14-year-old best friend, Lois Lippert, allegedly helped by bringing flowers to school and sharpening the knife in the bathroom. The pair also gathered gloves, trash bags, wipes, cigarettes, and a lighter for the ritual.

The pair were busted when an anonymous tip was submitted through to a school safety tip line in January.

The next morning, on January 23, school officials and police pulled both girls from class.

German automaker Volkswagen plans to cut around 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 as profits slump and the company struggles with rising costs, tariffs, and declining margins.

The job cuts were announced alongside the company’s 2025 financial results, which showed net profit falling 44 percent to €6.9 billion — the lowest level since the fallout from the Volkswagen emissions scandal.

At the same time, Volkswagen’s board has come under fire after securing additional bonus payments tied to the 2025 financial year.

According to reporting by Tichys Einblick, board members are set to receive bonuses of up to €1.75 million each after the company unexpectedly reported around €6 billion in net automotive cash flow for 2025, a figure that the news outlet claims was achieved by adopting “creative accounting practices.”

It pushed Volkswagen above the €5.6 billion threshold in its executive compensation scheme, activating the highest bonus tier for board members.

The cash-flow result was partly achieved through a factoring operation in which Volkswagen sold outstanding receivables from its operating business to generate immediate liquidity, according to the report.

The Food and Drug Administration on March 11 made public a new, consolidated platform for tracking side effects experienced by people following receipt of vaccines and drugs.

Officials are folding a number of existing platforms into the Adverse Event Monitoring System, which they are describing as a unified system that will be easier to search on.

“The FDA’s previous adverse event reporting systems were outdated and fragmented and made important data difficult to access. These clunky systems also wasted millions of taxpayer dollars and created blind spots in our postmarket surveillance of products ranging from drugs and vaccines to cosmetics,” Dr. Marty Makary, the FDA’s commissioner, said in a statement.

“We’re fixing the problem through a major modernization initiative. Starting today, the FDA will have a single, intuitive adverse event platform that will better serve agency scientists, researchers, and the public.”

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has previously criticized health agencies’ reporting of adverse events following vaccination and has said that fixes were coming.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a multibillion-dollar plan to increase the country’s military presence in the Arctic.

NATO, of which Canada is a member, has been actively ramping up its military footprint in the strategically important region in recent years, citing a perceived Russian threat. Moscow has dismissed the allegations, saying that the military bloc views the Arctic as a “bridgehead for possible conflicts.” President Vladimir Putin has warned that Russia will respond to the NATO military buildup in the region, where it possesses more than half of the entire coastline.

On Thursday, Carney stated that Canada would invest C$35 billion ($25.7 billion) in “forward operating locations” in the Arctic communities of Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Iqaluit, and several other locations. The plan envisages military airfield upgrades as well as the creation of hangars, ammunition and fuel facilities, among other installations, with a view to enabling the Canadian military to “deploy rapidly and support year-round response” in the region.

According to the prime minister, the new military infrastructure would lessen Canada’s reliance on other NATO member states to project force in the far north.

Canada’s economy lost a net 83,900 jobs in February, while the unemployment rate increased to 6.7%, according to data released Friday by Statistics Canada.

Job losses occurred across both goods-producing and service sectors. Statistics Canada said the scale of the monthly decline has not been seen in nearly 17 years, excluding the months of pandemic lockdowns.

The results fell short of economists’ expectations, which had projected a gain of about 10,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 6.6%. In January, the economy lost 24,800 jobs while the unemployment rate declined to a 16-month low of 6.5%.

Over the past two months, Canada has shed a total of 109,000 jobs. That loss nearly offsets the gains of 189,000 jobs recorded between September and December.

Recent weakness in the labour market has coincided with slower economic growth and the impact of tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on sectors including steel, autos, lumber and copper.

Economists and the Bank of Canada have warned that additional job losses could occur as businesses delay investment and implement layoffs in response to economic uncertainty.

“My reasons for leaving are that I have been with the organization for a long time and my politics and priorities lie with fighting antisemitism with Tafsik Organization (a Jewish Civil Rights group),” Lewis wrote in a Thursday email to National Post.

“It is not the priority of Egale at this time, to take on the fight against the Muslim Brotherhood. FBI Arrests 10 Indians for Allegedly Staging Armed Robberies in Visa Fraud Scheme

Nearly a dozen Indian nationals face charges after they were accused of taking part in a visa fraud scheme that included fake robberies.

Six defendants live in Massachusetts, two live in Ohio, one lives in Mississippi, and one lives in Kentucky. Another who lived in Massachusetts has already been deported.

All were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud:

The alleged purpose of the staged robberies “was to allow the clerks present to claim falsely that they were victims of a violent crime on an application for U non-immigration status (U Visa),” the release said.

Najm Chris initially told police he was a security guard; however, he is unemployed and does not hold any certifications or licenses to serve as an officer.

On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Japan and triggered a massive tsunami that slammed into the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Three of the plant’s six reactors melted down, and it became the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

On the other side of the world, German Chancellor Angela Merkel panicked.

Her gambit didn’t work, and the Greens won anyway.

A British tourist is among about 20 people who are facing charges in the UAE for filming Iranian attacks on Dubai, as America's Gulf Arab allies are taking steps to censor the impact of the war.

According to The Guardian, the 60-year-old man is being charged with a law that prohibits sharing material that can endanger public security. The report said that he is still facing charges despite deleting the video immediately when he was asked to.

The charge carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, and many could face similar charges for simply sharing videos of missile attacks that have already been published online.

"The charges sound extremely vague but serious on paper. In reality, the alleged conduct could be something as simple as sharing or commenting on a video that is already circulating online," said Radha Stirling, the head of Detained in Dubai.

"Under UAE cybercrime laws, the person who originally posts content can be charged, but so can anyone who reshapes, reposts, or comments on it," Striling added.

In the immediate aftermath of the US and Israel launching the war with Iran on February 28, videos of counterattacks in Gulf countries were widespread on social media, but they became scarce once the Arab governments began cracking down.

In Bahrain, which has a Shia majority ruled by a Sunni monarch, authorities began arresting people for "misusing" social media and pursued people who appeared to be celebrating the attacks.

Israel has also imposed tight restrictions on the dissemination of information about Iranian missile strikes, as it did during the 12-Day War in June 2025.

The tankers were hit during an Iranian missile strike on the Saudi base in recent days, the officials said. U.S. Central Command declined to comment. The tankers were damaged but not fully destroyed and are being repaired, one of the officials said. No one was killed in the strikes.

The human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is spreading in the United States, including in California and the Great Lakes region, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Symptoms include cough, fever, and nasal congestion, and, unlike better-known respiratory viruses, HMPV does not have a vaccine or known treatments, the CDC stated.

“There’s no specific treatment that’s generally recommended,” Dr. Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of California–Davis Children’s Hospital, said in a video released by the school.

“For the youngest children, using a bulb syringe to clear the congestion can be useful. Sometimes a humidifier or vaporizer may be useful, especially if they have something like croup as a complication of infection and trying to make sure that they don’t get dehydrated and get enough fluids.”

Hospitalized patients typically receive supportive care, or oxygen if they need it, and intravenous fluids to prevent or treat dehydration.

Of nationwide tests that were positive for respiratory viruses in the week that ended on Feb. 28, 5 percent tested positive for HMPV—the highest percentage for HMPV since mid-2025. The percentage is lower than that of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) but higher than that of COVID-19, according to the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System. Rocker Neil Young says he’s “sad” and “depressed” by the news of the day under President Donald Trump and he needs to put out a new, Anti-Trump album to express his feeling about what he called the “worst president in the history of our country.”

The Canadian citizen who only became a U.S. citizen in 2020 so he could vote against Trump, claims he is “hurt for this country.”

“Folks, I am so hurt for this country,” Young wrote on his website. “Politics today is sad and depressing for me. I can’t do it anymore. I can go out and demonstrate my feelings about it. We have the worst president in the history of our country. Every day a bad TV show produced by DJT is what we get.”

“Now, thankfully, once again, I’m in the studio recording a new album with the Chrome Hearts,” he added. “I love the songs and the feelings of life and love. Music is. So far we have eight new songs. They make me feel.”

Young, whose biggest hit was “Heart of Gold” from 1972, has been railing about President Trump since the New York business man ran for president the first time.

In January, for instance, he demanded that Americans “rise up” to fight Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which he claims is “destroying America,” despite that ICE is not in any way affect the lives of most Americans.

“Wake up people! Today The USA is a disaster” the Canadian citizen wrote at the time.

He also attempted to make a strike against Trump by gifting his music catalog to Greenland, making his public declaration in response to Trump’s pressure on Greenland to work with his administration as it seeks to secure the vital geo-political asset from threats – now and in the future.

Despite Young’s claim to want peaceful resistance, though, last May he suggested that Trump should be assassinated by adding the line “86/47” in his overheated blog.

Justice Richard Southcott of the Federal Court dismissed a bid by Canadian Pacific Railway to block access under the Access to Information Act, noting the railway had “not established a reasonable expectation” of confidentiality.

Investigators found a 15,000-tonne grain train bound for the Port of Vancouver had lost its air brakes near Field, B.C., before hurtling down a mountain pass at 85 kilometres an hour — three times the speed limit — and jackknifing on a sharp curve near the Kicking Horse River.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada determined mechanical failure contributed to the crash and agreed in 2023 to release the recorder data to an anonymous requester.

“This application will be dismissed,” Justice Southcott wrote.

An indigenous government in Nova Scotia has passed a new resolution saying the province and RCMP have no right to carry out enforcement on its lands, as police and provincial officials step up raids on what they claim are illegal cannabis operations.

The council of Cape Breton’s Membertou First Nation, led by Chief Terry Paul, released the resolution Friday saying it has a treaty right to self-governance, recognized by the Constitution. It says that includes the right to regulate sales of cannabis and tobacco.

“Enforcement bodies used by the Province of Nova Scotia to assert their unlawful authority, including the RCMP, and Service Nova Scotia—Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division, are not permitted to carry out enforcement activities on Membertou lands,” says the document.

It’s the latest in an ongoing dispute between Nova Scotia’s Mi’kmaw governments and the province that ratcheted up when Attorney General Scott Armstrong issued a directive to police agencies in December to increase illegal cannabis enforcement. Armstrong wrote to 13 Mi'kmaq chiefs at the time, requesting their co-operation.

The provincial government and Mi’kmaq leaders have also had disputes over grant funding, resource extraction policies and protests on Crown land.

Armstrong has claimed unregulated cannabis benefits organized crime, with profits used to fund other crimes, such as human trafficking. Police have followed orders with a series of raids across the province, including on March 3 when they seized cannabis from five dispensaries in Eskasoni First Nation, Potlotek First Nation, Paq’tnkek First Nation, Waycobah First Nation and near Digby, N.S. Provincewide seasonal burning restrictions go into effect on Sunday, and the provincial government just announced a $6.8-million commitment to contract four fixed-wing water bombers.

“It’s a one-year contract and they’ll be stationed in the province,” Jim Rudderham, the director of Nova Scotia fleet and forest protection, said. “They will be our resources exclusively and we’ll have them from May 1st to September 30th.”

“We’re contracting them because you can’t just go out and buy them off the shelf,” he added. “You have to get on the waiting list to get them, then they have to be built and delivered, so you’re looking at three to five years for one of these planes. Five people a day still dying from toxic drugs in B.C.: Coroner

Next month will mark a decade since B.C. declared a public health emergency over the tainted illicit drug supply causing an alarming number of overdose deaths.

Since then, more than 16,000 British Columbians have died from unregulated drugs and the number continues to climb.

On Friday, the B.C. Coroners Service said nearly five people a day lose their lives, with 150 deaths reported in January.

The coroner says that although this number represents a decrease of 10 per cent from the number of deaths in January 2025, it still equates to 4.8 deaths daily and is consistent with the number of deaths reported monthly throughout 2025. Continue…
