Soros funded District Attorney, Chesa Boudin getting annihilated in San Francisco recall results

San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin is down more than 20 percentage points in his recall election.

The first batch of results from San Francisco show "yes" on the recall leading "no" 61% to 39%. This batch contains all mail ballots received before Election Day

Since November 2020, every San Francisco voter has been mailed a ballot for elections. In all of those elections — the November 2020 general election, the Gavin Newsom recall in 2021, and two special elections in February and April 2022 — that first batch of results has contained about 70% of the number of total votes cast. Because such a large proportion of the total vote comes in that first dump, the final results have been at most 2 to 3 percentage points different from results following the first batch.

In other words, Boudin is in deep, deep trouble. SFGATE will not call the race until the Associated Press does.

Ahead of Election Day, polls had shown that Boudin was likely to get recalled. The margin of defeat was anywhere from 10 to 36 percentage points.

San Francisco's elections office plans to release second batch at 9:45 p.m. That batch will contain some of the votes cast in-person at polling places. Another batch of such results will be released at 10:45 p.m.

A San Diego grand jury indicted 11 Antifa and BLM militants for attacking Trump supporters during a “Patriot March” demonstration in Pacific Beach last year.

In January 2021, a mob of Antifa terrorists assaulted a small group of Trump supporters in San Diego, California.

Police arrested several violent protestors that day and a grand jury in San Diego indicted 11 defendants on Tuesday, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

The indictment actually calls out Antifa by name and alleges all defendants “are all affiliated with Antifa” and used “force, fear, and violence to further their interests and suppress the interests of others.”

The grand jury brought 29 felony counts, including conspiracy.

Fox 5 San Diego reported: A grand jury has indicted 11 people for allegedly attacking demonstrators during a march held in Pacific Beach last year by supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say 29 felony counts have been filed against the defendants, including conspiracy to commit a riot, use of tear gas and assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from the Jan. 9, 2021, clash at a “Patriot March,” which was ultimately declared an unlawful assembly by San Diego police.

According to the indictment, the defendants responded to social media posts calling for “counterprotesting” about one week prior to Jan. 9, then showed up in Pacific Beach “dressed in black clothing, and armed with weapons and protective gear.”

Police and prosecutors allege that two counter-protest groups from San Diego and Los Angeles gathered at the event and attacked people perceived to be members of the “Patriot March” group. Some specific acts of which the defendants are accused include throwing a wooden lawn chair at a woman and striking her, hitting someone with a baseball bat, hitting someone with a flagpole, and attacking people with tear gas and a stun gun..”

The indictment was returned following 13 days of testimony heard by the grand jury, according to the D.A.’s Office.

All of the defendants pleaded not guilty.

Former Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney are part of a group of nearly 90 women bringing claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act against the FBI, claiming that their failure to properly investigate complaints against Dr. Larry Nassar resulted in the continued sexual abuse of women and girls under his care.

Nassar, a former doctor for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University, is spending what will likely be the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of abusing dozens of female athletes under the guise of medical treatment. The FBI received reports in 2015 that Nassar abused at multiple gymnasts, but a Justice Department Inspector General report found that they did not open an investigation at that time.

"FBI officials, who possessed this knowledge and were in a position to end Nassar’s predation, were grossly derelict in their duties resulting in Nassar sexually assaulting approximately 100 young women and children between July 28, 2015, and September 12, 2016, and conspired with the highest-ranking officials within the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and USA Gymnastics, Inc. to conceal this known sexual abuse from foreseeable victims," a claim from five of the former gymnasts said.

Fox News reached out to the FBI for comment but they did not immediately respond.

Czech President Milos Zeman is revamping the central bank after criticizing it for overly aggressive interest-rate increases to combat the fastest growth in living costs in nearly 30 years. Zeman, who has the sole right to pick central bankers, named three new members to the policy making board on Wednesday, rejecting second terms for two hawkish rate setters. The changes follow last month’s surprising appointment of Ales Michl, who has been a vocal opponent of the rapid monetary tightening, as the new governor. The president picked Eva Zamrazilova, Jan Frait and Karina Kubelkova to take seats on the board, along with Michl assuming the helm, at the beginning of July. The changes are a manifestation of Zeman’s views that inflation is largely caused by shocks from abroad and that too much monetary tightening may be helping to drive up prices. Zamrazilova will become a deputy governor. The koruna reacted to the appointment by gaining 0.7% to 24.582 to the euro, the biggest intraday appreciation since May 13. After voting against all eight interest rate increases over the past year, which raised the benchmark by a cumulative 550 basis points, Michl said borrowing costs should be high enough to contain home-grown inflation risks when he takes over the bank.

New federal court filings have outlined a potential criminal case against former Marine General John R. Allen, who led US and NATO forces in Afghanistan before being asked in 2017 to lead influential research group Brookings Institution.

The findings detail Allen's behind-the-scenes efforts to influence US foreign policy to help Qatar amid a diplomatic crisis between the Qatari royal family and its neighbours.

FBI agent Babak Adlip wrote in a search warrant application for Allen, referring to the Foreign Agents Registration Act: 'There is substantial evidence that these FARA violations were willful.'

Allen is amongst members of Congress being interviewed about the investigation which has seen former ambassador to the UAE and Pakistan, Richard G. Olson, who pleaded guilty to federal charges of illegal lobbying last week.

Allen also misrepresented his role in the lobbying campaign to US officials, Adib wrote, and failed to disclose 'that he was simultaneously pursuing multimillion-dollar business deals with the government of Qatar.'

The FBI says Allen gave a 'false version of events' about his work for Qatar during a 2020 interview with law enforcement officials and failed to produce relevant email messages in response to an earlier grand jury subpoena.

Brookings did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Qatar has long been one of Brookings' biggest financial backers, though the institution says it has recently stopped taking Qatari funding.

Olson was working with Zuberi on another matter involving Qatar in mid-2017 when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries announced a blockade of Qatar over its alleged ties to terror groups and other issues.

Shortly after the blockade was announced, then-President Donald Trump appeared to side against Qatar.

The court papers say Allen played an important role in shifting the US's response. Specifically, authorities say Allen lobbied then-National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster to have the Trump administration adopt more Qatar-friendly tone.

In an email to McMaster, Allen said the Qataris wanted the White House or State Department to issue a statement with language calling on all sides of the Gulf diplomatic crisis to 'act with restraint.'

Federal law enforcement officials say then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson did just that two days later, issuing a statement that called on other Gulf countries to 'ease the blockade against Qatar' and asked 'that there be no further escalation by the parties in the region.'

The Qatar Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

As part of the lobbying campaign, federal law enforcement authorities say, Olson and Allen traveled to Qatar to meet with the country's ruling emir and other top officials.

At the meeting, Allen provided advice on how to influence US policy and said the Qataris should 'use the full spectrum' of information operations, including 'black and white' operations, the affidavit says.

'Black' operations are typically covert and sometimes illegal.

Qatar has been accused of orchestrating hack-and-leak operations of its critics and rivals during the diplomatic crisis, including one targeting a UAE ambassador. Qatar has denied any wrongdoing.

Before they went to Doha, Allen wanted to 'have a chat' with Olson and Zuberi about his compensation, the affidavit said.

Allen suggested in an email that he be paid a $20,000 'speaker's fee' for the weekend trip - even though he wasn´t giving a speech - and then later 'work out a fuller arrangement of a longer-term relationship,' the affidavit says.

Zuberi paid Allen's first-class airfare to Qatar, the affidavit said, but there's no indication the speaker's fee was paid.

Allen's spokesman said previously the general was never paid a fee. It's unclear why. Some of Zuberi's past business associates have accused him of not honoring his financial commitments.

Allen also had other financial incentives for helping the Qataris and maintaining strong ties to its top leaders, the FBI said.

'At the same time he was lobbying US government officials on behalf of Qatar, Allen pursued at least one multimillion-dollar business deal with the Qatari government on behalf of a company on whose board of directors he served,' the affidavit says.

After returning from their trip to Qatar, Allen and Olson lobbied members of Congress, particularly those who supported a House resolution linking Qatar to terror financing, the FBI said.

Among them was Rep. Ted Lieu, a California Democrat who told law enforcement officials he didn't recall exactly what Allen said but that his impression was he was there 'to support the Qatari officials and their position.'

Mortgage applications decreased 6.5 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending June 3, 2022. This week’s results include an adjustment for the Memorial Day holiday.... The Refinance Index decreased 6 percent from the previous week and was 75 percent lower than the same week one year ago. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index decreased 7 percent from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased 18 percent compared with the previous week and was 21 percent lower than the same week one year ago.

“Weakness in both purchase and refinance applicationspushed the market index down to its lowest level in 22 years. The 30-year fixed rate increased to 5.4 percent after three consecutive declines. Embattled Credit Suisse Issues Another Profit Warning

Credit Suisse Group AG (NYSE:CS) is the latest in a string of major companies to issue a profit warning. The European lender said it will most likely see a loss for its second quarter, thanks to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and monetary tightening. This marks Credit Suisse's third-straight quarterly profit warning, with the bank calling 2022 a "transition" year, amid it's recent c-suite shakeup and last year's string of costly scandals.

The shares were last seen down 7.5% to trade at $6.42, set to extend their 28% year-to-date deficit. CS has managed to distance itself from its May 12 record low of $6.07, though the 50-day moving average swiftly rejected this rally. Now, CS is looking to close back below recent support at its 20-day moving average.

Analysts are already hesitant on Credit Suisse stock. Of the five in coverage, three say "hold" and two say "sell" or worse. Plus, the 12-month consensus price target of $6.79 is a 2.2% discount to current Tuesday's close.

Short-term options traders have also taken a bearish stance. The security's Schaeffer's put/call volume ratio (SOIR) of 1.09 sits higher than 77% of readings from the past year. In other words, these traders are incredibly put-biased right now.

Russian inflation slowed more than forecast ahead of an interest-rate decision on Friday, capping a reversal for an economy that’s learning to live under sanctions imposed over the invasion of Ukraine.

Consumer prices rose an annual 17.1% in May after a gain of 17.8% a month earlier, the Federal Statistics Service said Wednesday. The median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 20 economists was 17.4%.

On a monthly basis, inflation was just 0.1%, below every forecast in another poll. Prices declined in the seven days ended June 3, the second time Russian inflation turned negative in recent weeks.

Inflation has peaked much quicker than anticipated this spring as domestic demand cooled off and gains in the ruble put the brakes on prices. International sanctions aimed at crippling Russia’s economy initially led to a brief currency shock and supply disruptions, followed by a wave of panic buying that further drove up prices.

Encouraged by the strong momentum behind disinflation, Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina has already cut rates three times since the the beginning of April, delivering nine percentage points of easing for an economy in recession. A smaller move is likely this week, with most economists surveyed by Bloomberg predicting the benchmark will be cut to 10% from 11%.

The firehose could be provided as soon as this week, the person said. The potential change would represent a major shakeup to the lucrative business of executing trades in the stock market, and directly impact how brokerages including Citadel Securities, Virtu Financial and Robinhood Markets process many retail trade orders.

In addition, Mr. Gensler said he has directed SEC staff to potentially allow stock exchanges to quote shares in increments of less than 1 cent. This could enable venues such as Nasdaq or the New York Stock Exchange to better compete with wholesalers, which can beat the prices publicly displayed on exchanges by adding or subtracting hundredths of a penny to the price of a stock.

“Why not allow all venues to have an equal opportunity to execute at sub-penny increments?” Mr. Gensler said in the speech.

After the "trapped" BOJ governor, Haruhiko Kuroda, stuck to his usual talking points regarding the currency, monetary policy and economy, speaking in parliament Wednesday.

Like a perpetually broken record, Kuroda said that "a stable weaker yen is positive for the overall economy although its impact varies across economic actors," and that he was aware of criticism and complaint over the recent yen slump, adding that a rapid, major drop in the yen isn’t desirable as it increases uncertainty and makes corporate planning difficult. Well, he may be "aware" of the risks and yet he is doing nothing just as the yen "slumps" for the simple reason we explained back in March: the BOJ can keep 10Y JGBs "stable" at 0.25% through “yield curve control” (dovish in normal times, catastrophically dovish at a time when the rest of the world is actively raising rates... but with Japan's debt load it really has no other choice), or keep the yen stable, but not both. And so far, Kuroda has picked stable rates, while letting the yen crater.

“Kuroda’s comments were the catalyst for accelerating yen selling, as they renewed market focus on monetary policy divergence,” said Jun Kato, chief market analyst at Shinkin Asset in Tokyo. “The picture of the yen being left out as a lone loser came to the fore as markets actively price in an ECB rate hike while the Australian dollar remains on an uptrend with its clear tightening stance.” Meanwhile, as Bloomberg notes, the yen’s historic weakness is spreading from the dollar into other currency crosses: Bloomberg’s Correlation-Weighted Currency Index for the yen - a gauge of its relative strength against a broad basket of Group-of-10 peers - slumped to a seven-year low Wednesday. Heading into today's 10Y auction, one day after yesterday's mediocre, tailing 3Y and with yields moving back higher after yesterday's slump, JPMorgan's rates strategists said that they expected the $33bn auction to be digest smoothly, "given the sector looks rich, has seen a strong move higher in yield, and that the auction size is smaller in size." They were right, more or less.

Except missing in this is the amount(s) they are tossing back and forth to each other to achieve this 'result'

Pricing at a high yield of 3.03%, today's 9-Year, 11-Month reopening of CUSIP EP2 priced at a high yield of 3.030%, rising by 9bps from last month's 2.943%, the highest since Nov 2018, and tailing the When Issued 3.018 by 1.2bps. The tail, which was somewhat unexpected since there was a generous concession into today's auction, was the 4th consecutive tail for the 10Y which has seen just one stop through in the past 8 auctions (in Feb 2022).

The Bid to Cover of 2.41 was below last month's 2.49, and below the six-auction average of 2.50.

The internals were also lousy with Indirects taking down just 63.6%, down sharply from 70.3% last month and below the recent average of 69.1%. And with Directs taking down 19.4%, or the highest since Dec 2019, meant Dealers-see cap#2 were left holding17.0%of the auction, above both last month's 11.5% and the recent average of 13.6%. US natural gas prices tumbled after a fire broke out at a Texas export terminal, threatening to leave supplies of the fuel stranded in shale basins despite surging overseas demand. The fire is still burning at the Freeport LNG terminal in Quintana, Texas, about 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of Houston, according to a recording on the Brazosport Community Awareness & Emergency Response hotline. The incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. local time on Wednesday and an investigation is ongoing, Brazosport CAER said in a tweet.

Freeport receives about 2 billion cubic feet of gas, or roughly 2.5% of output from the Lower 48 US states. Yellen says White House looking to 'reconfigure' China tariffs as inflation roars

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Wednesday that tariff reductions on Chinese goods may be warranted as the White House tries to cool the hottest inflation in four decades, but said that such cuts are not a "panacea" to runaway consumer prices.

While testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee, Yellen said the Biden administration is looking to reconfigure some of the Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods imposed by former President Donald Trump in order to be "more strategic" to trade abuses by Beijing. "I think some reductions may be warranted and could help to bring down the prices of things that people buy that are burdensome," Yellen said. "I want to make clear, I honestly don’t think tariff policy is a panacea with respect to inflation."

She noted that goods account for just one-third of consumption in the country and said there is little evidence that tariff reductions could directly benefit consumers. Still, she said that some of the existing tariffs have hurt American consumers and businesses. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo confirmed on Sunday that President Biden is considering lifting some tariffs on Chinese goods as he seeks to contain voter outrage over the hottest inflation in four decades and convince Americans that his administration is maximizing efforts to tame prices.

"We are looking at it. In fact, the president has asked us on his team to analyze that. And so we are in the process of doing that for him and he will have to make that decision," Raimondo said Sunday during an interview on CNN.

Yellen was grilled over inflation during her two-day appearance on Capitol Hill, in which she said the U.S. faces "unacceptable" levels of inflation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian war in Ukraine.

"We currently face macroeconomic challenges, including unacceptable levels of inflation as well as the headwinds associated with the disruptions caused by the pandemic’s effect on supply chains, and the effects of supply side disturbances to oil and food markets resulting from Russia’s war in Ukraine," Yellen said in prepared remarks. Yellen said that elements of Biden's proposed spending legislation – including reform to the prescription drug market and clean energy initiatives – could help reduce costs for many American families. But she offered few solutions to cool the hottest inflation in nearly four decades beyond that, and noted any actions from the White House or Congress would merely act as an accompaniment to steps taken by the Federal Reserve.

"To dampen inflationary pressures without undermining the strength of the labor market an appropriate budgetary stance is needed to complement monetary policy actions by the Federal Reserve," she said. "Moving forward, elements of the president’s proposed legislation – including the clean energy initiatives and plans to reform the prescription drug market – can help lower the costs paid by American consumers."

House Republicans question former news executive's work for Jan. 6 committee

A group of House Republicans questioned Wednesday whether the committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol violated rules when it hired a former news executive.

The five representatives wrote in a letter to the committee's Democratic leadership that they are seeking confirmation that former ABC News president James Goldston is working for the committee. Axios first reported Monday that Goldston is an "unannounced advisor" to the committee, which is holding the first of at least six public hearings in a rare prime-time session Thursday.

The Republicans wrote that they are unaware of whether a required letter requesting approval of Goldston's hiring has been submitted to the Committee on House Administration.

"To our knowledge, the Committee has not received or considered such a request," wrote the representatives, who include Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis, and four others who in July 2021 were recommended by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to join the Jan. 6 committee. Those recommendations were later rescinded by McCarthy after Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected two of the five, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Jim Banks.

The Republicans noted in their letter that Goldston would be barred from working for the Jan. 6 committee for free.

"Such an arrangement would violate House Rules and the House Ethics Manual regulations which clearly states that "no logical distinction can be drawn between the private contribution of in-kind services and the private contribution of money," they wrote.

The Offices of Jan. 6 committee Chair Bennie Thompson and Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

Committee chair Bennie Thompson said last week that the hearing will feature a "combination of witnesses, exhibits, things that we have through the tens of thousands of exhibits we've [...] looked at, as well as the hundreds of witnesses we deposed or just talked to in general."

The committee, which has interviewed some of former President Donald Trump's closest advisers — including his children Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., and son-in-law Jared Kushner — has promised to show "previously unseen material" from its nearly yearlong investigation.

The select committee plans to call two witnesses on Thursday: Nick Quested, a filmmaker who followed the Proud Boys on Jan. 6, and Capitol Police officer Caroline Edwards, the first law enforcement officer injured by rioters storming the Capitol grounds. Edwards suffered a traumatic brain injury and has not been able to return to work since the attack, according to the committee.

That 934 Porsche in the cap-owned by Marshall Field's Department Store heir Ted Field-poured a ton of money into racing in the mid 70s via Interscope Racing.

Always had top equipment and when those Porsches started losing competitiveness he bought one of the first all ground effect cars..Lola T-600-cap #1 with a Chevy turbo V-6 (and it was over-complicated and unreliable) the ones who put the big 7 liter Chevys did much better-but those were still tubeframe chasis and it took the Porsche 956 to make an all aluminum tub to get rid of the tube-frames' I drove on of these in the late 80s and it was pretty fun but only at about 85% of capability-wringing out that extra 15% required faith I never had with huge ground effect cars.

He went Indycar racing and built his own car-but before that he bought a car made by Parnelli Jones and stuffed the same engine (basically from that Porsche in the notabruh list) hired an engineer to make one from scratch too a few years later.

He hired a really good Driver-Danny Ongais and had him as a driver for a long time before that Indycar foray-he learned from him-got pretty decent.

The Indycar got squashed because it was too good-old AJ Foyt got USAC to lower the boost level and then it wasn't competitive so they pulled it. But that engine-turbo flat 6 became the backbone of the956-962.

I actually saw the tests (of the Porsche Indycar) at Riverside as a kid-it was off the charts and wicked fast.

That info got 'round to AJ and others so they went to the sanctioning body and convinced them to drop the turbo boost pressure allowed.

Then he (Ted Field) got bored with racing and since he had unlimited money through the family hebecame a movie producer via Interscope Communications and made the Revenge of the Nerds film and several others-then became a music producer of hardcore rap through Interscope Records.

Australia’s largest lender expects current aggressive monetary policy tightening to weigh heavily on the economy and force the Reserve Bank to reverse course and cut interest rates in the second half of 2023. Commonwealth Bank of Australia on Thursday downgraded its GDP growth forecasts and now predicts the A$2.2 trillion ($1.6 trillion) economy will expand 3.5% this year, down from a previous 4.7%, and then slow to a “below‑trend” 2.1% in 2023, compared with 3.1% seen previously. The RBA “looks very intent on dropping the inflation rate quickly,” said Gareth Aird, head of Australian Economics at CBA. “But this will come at the expense of growth in aggregate demand, particularly household consumption.”

Australia’s central bank surprised markets and economists this week with a 50 basis point rate rise to 0.85% and signaled its intention to rapidly normalize policy. Governor Philip Lowe said the RBA’s board will do “what is necessary” to ensure that inflation returns to its 2-3% target band.
