Biden Signs Nearly $40 Billion Ukraine Aid Package During Trip to South Korea

President Biden on Saturday signed a nearly $40 billion package of military and economic assistance for Ukraine, sending another installment of aid to the country as it seeks to defend itself from Russian forces.

Mr. Biden signed the bill following his bilateral meeting and joint news conference with new South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. The Senate approved the legislation Thursday as the president was traveling to Seoul, kicking off his six-day trip to Asia.

The White House said a U.S. government official who was already planning to travel to the region carried the bill aboard a commercial flight to South Korea. The president signed it in Seoul since he is not scheduled to return to Washington until late Tuesday, a move meant to avoid a delay in providing the funding to Ukraine. During the news conference with Mr. Yoon, Mr. Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine “isn’t just a matter for Europe. It’s an attack on democracy and the core international principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The Senate passed the legislation Thursday with an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 86-11, bringing the U.S. commitment to Ukraine to nearly $54 billion. White House officials have said the aid should last Ukraine through September.

Crypto’s Bankman-Fried Gave $16 Million to Super PACs in April

Crypto billionaire Samuel Bankman-Fried poured $16 million into super PACs in April, making him one of the top donors to outside groups as the primaries get into full swing, according to the latest filings with the Federal Election Commission.

Bankman-Fried gave $10 million to Protect Our Future, a super PAC that says it’s supporting candidates who can help prevent the next pandemic. The group has spent $19 million to influence elections so far, all in Democratic House races. Its biggest outlay was $10.5 million to back Carrick Flynn, who ran for an open seat in Oregon’s 6th congressional district. Despite the support, he lost the primary to Andrea Salinas, a state lawmaker who could be Oregon’s first Latino woman elected to Congress should she win the seat in November.

Protect Our Future, which is the third biggest spender among super PACs so far, also backed Representative Lucia McBath, a Democrat of Georgia, spending $1.9 million on her behalf, and six other candidates.

The House Majority PAC, the super political action committee of House Democrats, counted the CEO of crypto exchange FTX as its biggest donor in April. Bankman-Fried gave it $6 million of the $9.8 million it raised. The PAC ended April with $59.8 million in the bank after spending $2.8 million.

The super PAC, which has ties to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, plans to spend more than $100 million in a bid to protect the Democrats’ narrow five-seat House majority. Its Republican counterpart, the Congressional Leadership Fund, which is planning its own $125 million ad blitz ahead of the November elections, files quarterly and won’t report its totals until July 15.

The donations bring Bank-Fried’s total support for super PACs in the current election cycle to $31.5 million, among the top tier of donors. He’s well behind George Soros, who put $125 million into Democracy PAC II, a committee he uses to distributed funds to other groups. Bankman-Fried has moved into second place ahead of Republican donor Richard Uihlein, who gave $1 million to the super PAC arm of the Club for Growth in April, bringing his total donations to just less than $31.5 million, according to OpenSecrets. In the 2020 election cycle, Bankman-Fried ranked 47th among donors to outside groups, giving $5.6 million to Future Forward, which supported the campaign of Joe Biden. A plunge in cryptocurrencies slashed the wealth of some of the industry’s biggest players, including Bankman-Fried, whose net worth dropped by about half to $11.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Public data suggests that several anonymous crypto investors profited from inside knowledge of when tokens would be listed on exchanges.

Over six days last August, one crypto wallet amassed a stake of $360,000 worth of Gnosis coins, a token tied to an effort to build blockchain-based prediction markets. On the seventh day, Binance—the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume—said in a blog post that it would list Gnosis, allowing it to be traded among its users. Token listings add both liquidity and a stamp of legitimacy to the token, and often provide a boost to a token’s trading price. The price of Gnosis rose sharply, from around $300 to $410 within an hour. The value of Gnosis traded that day surged to more than seven times its seven-day average. Four minutes after Binance’s announcement, the wallet began selling down its stake, liquidating it entirely in just over four hours for slightly more than $500,000—netting a profit of about $140,000 and a return of roughly 40%, according to an analysis performed by Argus Inc., a firm that offers companies software to manage employee trading. The same wallet demonstrated similar patterns of buying tokens before their listings and selling quickly after with at least three other tokens. The crypto ecosystem is increasingly grappling with headaches that the world of traditional finance tackled decades ago. The collapse of a so-called stablecoin from its dollar peg earlier this month stemmed from crypto’s version of a bank run. How cryptocurrency exchanges prevent market-sensitive information from leaking has also become a growing topic of concern. Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk met Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Friday to talk about rural areas' internet connectivity and efforts to preserve the Amazon rainforest.

The meeting was held in a resort in the state of Sao Paulo and was organized by Communications Minister Fábio Faria. The minister has said he would like partnerships with Musk to create or boost internet connectivity in schools and health facilities in the country's rural areas using SpaceX and Starlink technology, as well as to preserve the Amazon rainforest. "Super excited to be in Brazil for launch of Starlink for 19,000 unconnected schools in rural areas & environmental monitoring of Amazon," Musk wrote in a tweet Friday morning. The rainforest's illegal activities are monitored by several entities, including the national space agency, federal police and environmental regulator Ibama.

Musk was slated to take over Twitter after purchasing the company for $44 billion last month. But he revealed last week that the deal is temporarily on hold until the social media giant can back up its claims about the number of spam accounts on the platform.

Soaring costs and swollen inventories have retailers on the ropes, and investors fear that the punishment won’t ease anytime soon.

With companies from Costco Wholesale Corp. to Dollar General Corp. and Best Buy Co. set to report earnings next week, investors are bracing for more bad news after a disastrous few days that sent giants like Walmart Inc. and Target Corp. to their worst stock-price drops since 1987. n all, some $550 billion in market value was erased from consumer stocks over the past five days, adding to the downward pressure on a market already strained by fear of inflation and rising interest rates. On Friday, the S&P 500 weighed down by the heavy losses in its consumer sectors briefly dipped into bear-market territory, a 20% decline from its most recent high. Part of the problem is that stores are awash in products that consumers don’t want. At the same time, the cost of finding new goods to sell and getting them into stores is surging as fuel, labor and other expenses climb. Walmart and Target both slashed their forecasts for profit this year as inventories ballooned and price increases failed to keep up with rising costs.

That has investors on edge over how other companies might hold up. Dollar General and Dollar Tree Inc. are each set to report on Thursday, days after being swamped in the selloff that took down Target. There is also unease over long-struggling department stores Nordstrom Inc. reports Tuesday and Macy’s Inc. is slated for Thursday as well as specialty chains such as Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. Costco, also on Thursday, is the largest retailer on the docket for next week. Shipping delays and backlogs were so bad last year that Walmart and Target chartered cargo ships to keep their shelves stocked. That worked for a while, but this year inventories are getting out of hand.

The retailers now find themselves flush with clothes, televisions and other discretionary items that customers aren’t buying as they channel more spending into basic needs and services. As a result, the companies took markdowns that eroded profits.

The formula shipment on US military aircraft is originating from Zurich, Switzerland, after Biden announced the Operation Fly Formula program to bring imports in from overseas. The first load means as many as 1.5 million bottles of “safe Nestlé infant formula” will be coming to U.S. shelves as soon as possible, Biden said on Twitter on Friday.

Gazprom Export has demanded that European countries pay for Russian gas supplies in rubles because of sanctions imposed over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, but Finland refuses to do so. "Gas imports through [the] Imatra entry point have been stopped," Gasgrid Finland said in a statement. Imatra is the entry point for Russian gas into Finland.

There is NO reason these two ACs should have not been visible upon departure from Osan AB. There were two C-17 Globemasters that were on hold prior to the 747 and the C-32A departure so there is no overall transmission issue going on here.

'They are intentionally hiding the lack of AF1 callsign on this AC so the Intl ATC do not have or ask questions-they can simply be told that it is not being displayed on ADS-B for whatever reason they decide.

It is being hidden from people who follow it on ADS-B for the above reason-namely the lack of AF1 on yet another Int'l trip.

That it still transmits barometric altitude is confirmation taht it has, infact departed and currently in-flight to Yokota AB, Japan.
