Putin, Saudi Crown Prince Upbeat on OPEC+, Kremlin Says of Call

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman gave a “positive assessment” to their cooperation on the OPEC+ producers group to stabilize the world oil market, the Kremlin said in statement. Saturday’s phone conversation, the leaders’ second since Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, came at the initiative of Saudi Arabia, the Kremlin said.

The two also discussed the crises in Ukraine and Yemen, the Kremlin said, without providing details. Saudi Arabia said in a brief statement that the Crown Prince “received a phone call” from Putin but didn’t mention OPEC+ or energy cooperation specifically. “They discussed bilateral relations that bring the two countries together and ways to enhance them in various fields,” according to the Saudi readout. Bin Salman also “affirmed the Kingdom’s support for efforts that lead to a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine and achieve security and stability.” Saudi Arabia and other major Persian Gulf oil producers have so far resisted U.S. calls to increase output as prices have surged amid the crisis in Ukraine and concerns about possible sanctions on Russian exports. Putin’s last publicly announced conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince was on March 3, according to the Kremlin.

Bin Salman on Friday spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping and also discussed Ukraine, according to Chinese state television, which said Beijing is seeking “high-level” cooperation with Saudi Arabia in energy, trade and high technology.

JPMorgan Chase Has Sunk $84 Billion Into Buying Back Its Stock Over Past 5 Years; Now Its Stock Is Sinking

JPMorgan Chase’s publicly-traded shares closed out 2021 with a share price of $158.35. At the closing bell yesterday, shares of JPMorgan Chase were at $127.30, a year-to-date price decline of 19.6 percent. That’s dramatically worse than its peer bank, Wells Fargo, and modestly worse than another peer bank, Bank of America. That performance is shocking because the Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, is paid like a rock star by his Board, treated like a financial wizard by the business press, and perpetually brags about his bank’s “fortress balance sheet” in his musings to Congress and shareholders.

But the share price performance is not shocking if one considers that one of the artificial props under the share price for the past five years has been Dimon’s crony Board of Directors authorizing giant share buybacks of the stock. According to YCharts (give the chart time to load) since January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2021 – a span of five years – JPMorgan Chase has spent a total of $84.312 billion buying back its own stock. In eight of those quarters, it spent more than $5 billion buying back its own shares. What may have contributed to the drop in the bank’s share price in the first quarter of this year is the fact that, according to its recent quarterly earnings report (8-K), it spent "only" a net $1.7 billion buying back its stock in the current quarter. It notes in the same report, however, that “The Firm’s Board of Directors has authorized a new common equity share repurchase program of $30 billion, effective May 1, 2022.” When the largest bank in the United States has to spend tens of billions of dollars buying back its own stock over long stretches of time and its share price sinks when it’s not able to do that, maybe regulators need to open the gates at this so-called “fortress” bank and look for rotten timber. There’s plenty of reasons for regulators and Congress to be concerned. JPMorgan Chase is the only bank in the United States to have been charged with five felony counts since 2014 by the U.S. Department of Justice, admitting to all of them.

It is the only federally-insured bank in the United States to have made more than a hundred billion dollars in gambles in exotic derivatives in London – using deposits from its insured bank – and lose $6.2 billion of depositors’ money. The matter, which became known as the London Whale scandal in 2012, was so alarming that the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations conducted an extensive investigation over nine months and issued a 300-page report. One paragraph from the report cap

“The JPMorgan Chase whale trades provide a startling and instructive case history of how synthetic credit derivatives have become a multi-billion dollar source of risk within the U.S. banking system. They also demonstrate how inadequate derivative valuation practices enabled traders to hide substantial losses for months at a time; lax hedging practices obscured whether derivatives were being used to offset risk or take risk; risk limit breaches were routinely disregarded; risk evaluation models were manipulated to downplay risk; inadequate regulatory oversight was too easily dodged or stonewalled; and derivative trading and financial results were misrepresented to investors, regulators, policymakers, and the taxpaying public who, when banks lose big, may be required to finance multi-billion-dollar bailouts.”

JPMorgan Chase has also been judged by a federal government repository to have the riskiest profile among its peer banks.

Sergey Brin Family Foundation'

The Sergey Brin Family Foundation is a private foundation and philanthropic vehicle for Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google. Brin created the Foundation in 2014 following revelations surrounding an affair between Brin and a Google employee and his subsequent divorce from long-time wife Anne Wojcicki, with whom Brin had jointly operated the Brin Wojcicki Foundation.

moar

https://www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/sergey-brin-family-foundation/

The foundation is in line with Brin’s personal and professional history of supporting left-leaning organizations and causes and annually gives over $50 million in grants to various organizations. cRecent grant recipients for the foundation include many California-based schools, libraries, and educational programs, in addition to a variety of left-leaning organizations such as the Tides Foundation, the Proteus Fund, and ColorOfChange.

What Are Class B Shares?

Class B shares are a classification of common stock that may be accompanied by more or fewer voting rights than Class A shares. Class B shares may also have lower repayment priority in the event of a bankruptcy. A detailed description of a company's different classes of stock is included in the company's prospectus, bylaws, and charter.

Key Takeaways

*Class B shares are issued by corporations as a class of common stock with fewer voting rights and lower dividend priority than Class A shares.

*Such a dual-class structure might be instituted if the original owners of the company wanted to sell the majority of their stake in the firm but still maintain control and make key decisions.

*Class B shares may also refer to mutual fund shares that carry no sales load.

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/classbshares.asp

What Is a Class C Share?

Class C shares are a class of mutual fund share characterized by a level load that includes annual charges for fund marketing, distribution, and servicing, set at a fixed percentage. These fees amount to a commission for the firm or individual helping the investor decide on which fund to own. The fees are charged annually. In comparison, a front-end load carries charges paid when the shares are bought and a back-end load assesses charges when the investor sells shares; and no-load funds contain no commission charges at all, with the fees simply calculated into the net asset value (NAV) of the fund.

Key Takeaways

*Class-C mutual fund shares charge a level sales load set as fixed percentage assessed each year.

*This can be contrasted with front-load shares that charge investors at time of purchase and back-end loads that charge at time of sale.

*Because the annual fee can compound investor cost over time, this class of fund is best-suited for those looking to hold fund shares for periods of 3 years or less.

Records show Saudi prince who rejected Elon Musk's offer to buy Twitter sold all personal shares in 2019

It has been revealed that the Saudi prince who publicly rejected Elon Musk's offer to buy Twitter sold all his personal shares in 2019. It has been revealed that the Saudi prince who publicly rejected Elon Musk's offer to buy Twitter sold all his personal shares in 2019. On Thursday, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud publicly rejected Elon Musk's bid to buy Twitter for $43 billion.

The prince owns 95 percent of Kingdom Holdings Company, which continues to hold stock in Twitter, however, records show he sold all his personal shares in 2019. Following Prince Alwaleed's rejection of Elon Musk's offer, Twitter user @zerohedge posted records appearing to show that the Saudi royal has not held any personal shares for years.

Dear @Alwaleed_Talal this may come as a shock to you, but you sold all your Twitter shares in 2019, not long after were were put under Ritz Carlton hotel arrest. cc: @elonmusk https://t.co/qJn4qwk6O0 pic.twitter.com/15muAHYkdR

Also highlighted was the fact that the selling of Prince Alwaleed's stock took place shortly after he was released from detention in the Riyadh Ritz Carlton. According to The Guardian, he had spent nearly three months there as part of an "anti-corruption sweep."

At the time, The Guardian reported that many of the other detainees had been released after having "traded cash, real estate and other assets for their freedom."

Prince Alwaleed first purchased Twitter shares in 2011, before the social media company had gained much international traction. In 2015, he and the KHC increased their ownership in Twitter to 5.2 percent.

High-Grade Bond Issuance Expected to Pick Up After Bank Earnings

U.S. investment-grade bond issuance is expected to pick up next week, with preliminary Wall Street estimates projecting $25 billion to $30 billion of new supply.

All eyes will be on the big six U.S. banks, which often issue new debt in the days following their earnings reports, and are typically strategic about when they borrow due to capital-intensive business models. Goldman Sachs Group Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. all reported earnings this week, and Bank of America Corp. is set to follow on Monday. Self-led bank deals are a wild card for next week, Bloomberg’s Michael Gambale wrote, and could turbo-boost supply beyond current estimates. Other investment-grade issuers reporting earnings next week include Johnson & Johnson, Halliburton Co., Lockheed Martin Corp., Procter & Gamble Co. and AT&T Inc. The high-grade primary market showed some signs of fragility this week, with three deals that failed to find footing during syndication and eventually sold at initial price talk. Issuers sat on the sidelines Thursday to wrap up the holiday-shortened week, and $17 billion of new debt priced in all.

Volatility continues to grip the investment-grade market, which is down 10.5% so far this year on a total-return basis. Strategists don’t see the trouble ending any time soon. A near-freeze in junk bond issuance looks set to continue, with no known deals in the pipeline heading into next week. Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope Inc., the only junk deal in the market this week, struggled and had to sweeten terms to entice investors. The U.S. leveraged loan market is also quiet, with no bank meetings scheduled heading into the week. Six deals have commitments due, including Penn National Gaming Inc.’s $1 billion term loan to refinance debt.

I'm also watching for JP Morgues stock to be sky'd because that is wut they do (Market Makers) so If you are short on that be careful-gonna turn it around on a dime as it's all ready down around 20% YTD. They are still in a blackout period for company -led buybacks and that should be done by next week I believe so watch for that to have a major influence on it

Something I forgot to add to this yesterday is that the traders ('tutes) are incentivized to produce many orders because the market makers actually pay them rebates based on order flow (i.e. how much, how often) so you must first take that out of the equation and then charge them to submit orders

The spoofing "issue" would gvanish overnight if they did this.

Shippers Seek Alternatives to Southeast China Ports Hit By Covid Lockdowns

By Sam Whelan (The Loadstar) – April 15, 2022

As supply chain uncertainty at China’s key port cities drags on, shippers are hunting for alternative cargo options from South-east Asia.

In Shanghai, where most of the city remains under lockdown, despite officials introducing a three-tier system to slowly ease restrictions, the container port – usually the busiest in the world – has been operating but the lack of trucking capacity has left supply chains in disarray.

For example, Jasmine Wall, Seko Logistics’ commercial manager for Asia Pacific, said: “Some carriers, including Maersk and ONE, have started to cancel calls at Shanghai to instead provide intermodal services, such as land-to-water or rail.

“And due to trucking and entry problems, some yards in Shanghai port are under pressure. Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, MSC, ONE and others have said dangerous goods and reefer containers will be transferred to other ports for unloading.”

One contact said China’s ministry of transport had issued instructions to “restore reefer transport and clearance of refrigerated cargo”, possibly due to perishables supply chain troubles being reported throughout the city.

According to Norman Global Logistics (NGL), The Alliance has cancelled 36 sailings to Shanghai and the Ocean Alliance, six. Export volumes have increasingly shifted to Ningbo, but NGL said supply chain conditions were again deteriorating in that city, too, adding: “The situation at China’s second biggest port has worsened, with more Covid-cases and measures introduced.

“This has combined with a lot of shippers trying to re-route cargo from Shanghai through Ningbo, especially those in Jiangsu, Anhui and Sichuan provinces.”

Meanwhile, President Xi is reportedly sticking to his zero-Covid policy, casting further doubt over when the bout of self-inflicted supply chain pain in China will end.

Forwarder Flexpoprt said: “Ocean carriers continue to assess the impacts to bookings, many are looking for replacement cargo from South-east Asia due to the constraints and dips in shipment activity ex-China.

“Inventory replenishment efforts remain important and necessary for many importers and retailers ahead of the traditional peak season.”

Sunny Ho, executive director of the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, speculated whether there may be a renewed push towards sourcing in South-east Asia. He told The Loadstar: “China supplied the world’s merchandise over the past two years, on condition that it successfully contained the pandemic.

“However, the impact of the Shanghai lockdown is not restricted to logistics and cargo movement, but also affects the more important economic activities of deal-making, finances and administration.

“Shanghai’s hinterland extends much further into the east China delta, and the lockdown consequences extend into these vast areas as well. In the short run, overseas buyers may switch some procurement to alternative manufacturing areas, like Asean and Mexico.”

On the other hand, Mr Ho said, production capacity in these areas may be insufficient, given their reliance on China for raw materials and intermediary goods, and he added: “But in the longer run, the diversification process – which began before the pandemic – is expected to resume, and may gain some momentum.”

Who Were the Calutron Girls of Oak Ridge?

One of the most iconic photographs from the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN features two rows of women sitting in front of imposingly large machines covered with meters and dials. Taken by the legendary photographer Ed Westcott, this picture captures a typical day for the “Calutron Girls,” the women charged with the task of monitoring and maintaining the mass spectrometers at the Y-12 uranium enrichment plant.

Although they didn’t know it at the time, these young women were forever altering the course of human history by supporting the development of the world’s first atomic weapons. Read on to learn how a group of recent high school graduates became important contributors to the Manhattan Project. During World War II, thousands of women moved to the newly established city of Oak Ridge in search of a better life. With many young men serving overseas, there was a demand for a new female labor force. Women were drawn to jobs at Clinton Engineer Works (a front for the Manhattan Project) with promises of good pay and affordable lodging. A former calutron girl, Gladys Owens, recalled that the rent at her dormitory was $10 per month.

While many of the women who moved to Oak Ridge were from nearby towns in Tennessee, workers came from around the South and even from towns in the Midwest and cities in the Northeast. By 1945, 75,000 people were living and working in the Secret City. The Y-12 Plant at Clinton Engineer Works was home to a number of calutrons, machines that use an electromagnetic process to separate uranium isotopes (an essential step for building atomic bombs). When they were developed at the University of California, Berkeley, the calutrons were only operated by PHDs. At Clinton Engineer Works, however, the calutrons were operated by young women, most of whom were recent high school graduates.

Seated at the calutrons’ control panels, these women were responsible for monitoring the devices’ meters and adjusting the dials as needed. The Calutron Girls were given absolutely no information about the significance of what they were doing; the training they received pertained strictly to the task at hand.

When women were hired to operate the calutrons, some of the physicists at Y-12 didn’t think they were up to the job. However, the Y-12 supervisors ultimately found that the young women were better at monitoring the calutrons than the highly educated men who used to operate the machines. If something went wrong with the calutron, male scientists would try to figure out the cause of the problem, while women saved time by simply alerting a supervisor. Additionally, scientists were guilty of fiddling with the dials too much, while women only adjusted them when necessary. Oak Ridge wasn’t called the “Secret City” for nothing; the safeguarding of sensitive information was a top priority. Former Calutron Girl Gladys Owens recalled that her manager at the Y-12 Plant told the team, “We can train you how to do what is needed, but cannot tell you what you are doing. I can only tell you that if our enemies beat us to it, God have mercy on us!”

Like all of the other employees at Clinton Engineer Works, the Calutron Girls were forbidden from discussing their work with anyone. Those who asked too many questions had a habit of disappearing. When one young woman did not return to Gladys Owens’ dormitory, her neighbors were told that she had “died from drinking some poison moonshine.”

For many young women, working at Clinton Engineer Works was the first time they had left their families and rural lifestyle. Although it wasn’t a big city like Nashville or Memphis, Oak Ridge had movie theaters, roller rinks, recreation centers, and other places for young people to socialize and have fun. Living in dormitories and earning money was an exciting and empowering experience for many of the women living in Oak Ridge.

While life in Oak Ridge presented many new opportunities for women, it was still governed by the restrictive social mores of the day. Very few women were promoted to positions of authority at work. Also, Clinton Engineer Works’ housing policies mandated that the dormitories be segregated by race and gender.

After the end of the war, calutron activity scaled down at Y-12 and the Calutron Girls moved on. Even after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, many of the former Calutron Girls did not know how much they had contributed to the war effort. Gladys Owens, who is seated in the foreground of Ed Westcott’s famous photo, did not realize the significance of her work until she came across the picture during a public tour of the Y-12 Plant fifty years after the war ended!

From Treasury Vault to the Manhattan Project

Over the past few years I have researched several, including the so-called Silver Program. The paramount problem for the MED was finding means to produce sufficient enriched uranium for an atomic bomb. By early 1942, only milligram-scale quantities of uranium-235 (235U) had been isolated and it was by no means clear if any of the laboratory methods in use then could be ramped up to an industrial scale. Research into several techniques was fast-tracked and three ultimately were used at Oak Ridge. (A fourth approach to securing fissile material, synthesis of plutonium, was used in giant reactors located in Hanford, Washington.) From the beginning, electromagnetic mass spectroscopy was identified as a promising method, and it quickly became clear to Marshall and Nichols that massive quantities of copper would be needed for the magnets’ windings. But copper—used in shell casings—was a high-priority commodity during the war. So Marshall and Nichols struck on the idea of using silver as a substitute. Congress had authorized the use of up to 86,000 tons of Treasury Department silver for defense purposes. Not having to divert mass amounts of copper was a huge boon for the project’s secrecy. Nichols met with Undersecretary of the Treasury Daniel Bell on August 3, 1942, to inquire about borrowing 6,000 tons of silver from Treasury vaults. In his memoirs, Nichols relates that Bell indignantly informed him that the Treasury’s unit of measure was the troy ounce—though not all present at that meeting recall any unpleasantness. Many MED documents do report quantities of silver in troy ounces and fine troy ounces. At 480 grains, a troy ounce is somewhat heavier than a common avoirdupois ounce, which weighs in at 437.5 grains. Fine troy ounces (FTOs) refer to the purity of the bullion: a 1,000 troy ounce “silver” bar of fineness 0.900 contains 900 FTOs of pure silver. For convenience, I quote weights in pounds of metal here after accounting for fineness.

They called this the Clinton Engineer Works in 1942..that is important later in it's life.

Not all of it was put back even though they produced paperwork that said they did.

That facility was actively producing Uranium until the mid to late 90's when the Clinton Admin "closed" it to get the silver out of it. Because they did not shut it down after the war and return all the silver back to the Treasury as why would it still have functioned-you need the silver to use the calutrons so no silver=no calutrons. The rumor was that part of the Waco situation was about the Branch Davidians having an ass-ton of silver from that facility somehow or had a big physical supply that the Gov't wanted and that they created all that shit to get it from them or shut them up about it-the records about all of that were housed in the Murrah Federal Bldg in OKC and we all know what happened to that in 1995.

One of the last things the Bubba Clinton did on the way out in 2000 was to pardon the pedophile Marc Rich who founded Marc Rich & Co that later became Glencore. A few of his "associates" created Trafigura and Glencore was taken public in 2011 and Trafigura remained private. When the Hunt Brothers tried to corner the Silver market in the last 70's the Department of Defense had to release some of the silver located in the Strategic Reserves vis the U.S. Assay office-some of these coins have been tested and contain radioactivity

fast forward to 2013 and he "dies" of a 'heart attack'

Marc Rich, Glencore founder pardoned by Clinton, dies

More on the Great Silver Mystery

A few years back I wrote an article called The Great Silver Mystery (...and the greatest secret of all time!) where I theorized that in order to continue the silver market rigging operations, the US government had to tear down the Y12 facility at Oak Ridge (The Manhattan Project) to remove almost 500M oz of physical silver that was on loan from the US Treasury. Subsequently, this silver was brought back into the physical market to suppress the price of silver during Clinton’s “Strong Dollar Policy” days. For years GATA has made charges that the gold bullion in Fort Knox and the West Point Depository is not actually there and has been lent, loaned, leased and swapped out to suppress the price of gold. The US government, mainstream media and the gold community has laughed at them saying that the US Government does not loan out its bullion, would not lie about it and all the gold held in US reserves is sitting in the vaults.

Now let’s settle this disagreement once and for all. I call your attention to the passages from pages 107-109 of the book:

Pg.107 - “..the Administration decided that the need for copper should be reduced by substituting for it silver borrowed from the US Treasury.”

Pg. 107 - “Colonel Marshall there upon called upon the under Secretary of the Treasury, Daniel Bell. Mr. Bell said that he might be able to make some 47,000 tons of free silver, together with 39,000 tons more which could be released from the back-up of Silver Certificates, if Congress authorized its use through appropriate legislation.”

Pg. 107 & 108 - “Under the terms of the final agreement the silver required by the project was to be withdrawn from the West Point Depository. Six months after the end of the war an equal amount of silver would be returned to the Treasury. It was further agreed that no information would be given to the press on the removal of the silver and the Treasury would continue to carry it on there daily balance sheets.”

Pg. 109 – “Many of the precautions we took were aimed at primarily concealing our interest in silver..”

China holds military drills as US delegation visits Taiwan

China on Friday deployed fighter aircraft, bombers and warships around self-ruled Taiwan as a visiting US Congressional delegation signalled support for the island, a tour termed by Beijing as “provocative” and raising tension in the region. China conducted the multi-forces drill in and over the area around Taiwan and the East China Sea, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theatre Command said on Friday. he statement was released on the mainland as the US lawmakers were holding a news conference in Taipei.

Separately, a Chinese mainland spokesperson urged the US government to fulfil its commitment to not support “Taiwan independence” with real actions instead of saying one thing and doing another. According to the PLA, the large-scale drill was called a “joint patrol readiness combat” with emphasis on naval assault. “This operation is conducted targeting the recent wrong signals the US sent on the Taiwan question,” the PLA command said in a statement, adding: “The wicked tactics of the US are useless and dangerous. Those who play with fire will burn themselves.” In a separate statement, the Chinese defence ministry said the visit by US politicians was “deliberately provocative” and had “led to further escalation of tension in the Taiwan Strait”. China claims Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy, as a renegade region and has not ruled out using force to reunify the island.

The PLA has intensified drills around the island, frequently deploying ships and aircraft, in recent months but blames Washington for provoking tension over its decision to sell arms and send political delegations to Taiwan. The visiting six-member US Congressional delegation met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday morning and will also meet with the island’s defence minister. Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey gave a speech praising Taiwan’s democracy and its global status as a manufacturer of semiconductor chips used in everything from cars to smartphones, and he warned of consequences if that status were jeopardised, the Associated Press said in a report from Taipei. “It is a country of global significance, of global consequence, of global impact, and therefore it should be understood the security of Taiwan has a global impact for those who would wish it ill,” said Menendez, the head of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, in a speech.

China Eastern Puts Type of Boeing Jet That Crashed Back in Air

China Eastern Airlines Corp. has resumed flights using the same type of plane that recently crashed in southern China, a sign the airline is working toward putting the entire fleet back in the air.

A 737-800 jet flew from Kunming to Chengdu on Sunday, according to flightradar24.com. Other planes of the same model have been used in what appeared to be test flights, including near the financial hub of Shanghai. The crashed flight killed all 132 people on board. Calls to China Eastern seeking comment outside regular business hours were not answered. China Eastern grounded more than 200 of the Boeing 737-800 planes after the crash on March 21 in Wuzhou, in the Guangxi region. Flight 5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou was cruising at about 29,000 feet when it suddenly dove at high speeds, slamming into a forested hillside about 100 miles from its destination.

Investigators retrieved two flight-data recorders the black boxes and sent them to the U.S. in hopes they can glean information from them to understand what happened to the jet, which disintegrated into tens of thousands of pieces.

Elon Musk, Twatter, Tesla, Space X and possible outcomes of hostile takeover and what it costs "him" and "them" and Friday OpEx volumes"

Some OpEx decent sized Option purchases on Friday (volume-wise) on the second post of this

Since Spaceboi has announced his intent to buy out Twatter-when he snubbed the BoD seat that was the cue that he had no interest in playing along with them and was going to try and take it over/buy it out and go private. However in the ensuing time frame we've seen Vanguard increase it's stake in Twatter and is now the largest shareholder-this is reported shares because Dopey still has a sizeable stake in it via Kingdom Holdings so Dopey only has sold his personal shares after his "stay" at the Ritz-Carlton courtesy of MbS and the crack-down.

You also have to understand how Elon Musk got to where he is...by MASSIVE Gov't subsidies for Tesla and SpaceX courtesy of the Hussein Administration. He also was the depository (see Country-Wide Loans and Bank of America for similar example of "placement") for another massively subsidized business courtesy of the same policy of the Hussein Admin.-Solar City and a piece of information that is not widely known-the "founders" of that are Peter and Lyndon Rive, the cousins of Tesla, Inc. CEO Elon Musk. He has played many games when the reality of his production goals in TSLA were not met and was once one of the highest shorted stocks in the NAS (and for good reason). He lied about his production capabilities and on many occasions missed them but the markets just shrugged that off becasue they are vested in that going higher no matter what the qtrly results are. This is a big problem is the markets..you have results that SUCK-see all the big banks last week-yet the consequences largely do not show up in the equity prices. Not even gonna get into the fake crap that is SpaceX-will only say that landing his reusuable rockets in the middle of the ocean on a platform/barge is the equivilent of throwing a pencil from ground level up and over the Empire State Bldg and having it land on a postage Stamp on the other side-you've all seen the footage of the mouse on the engine during it's ascent and the cameras that cut out just before the rocket "lands" on the barge.

He also got into trouble by stating he had a cash offer at a certain price to take TSLA private when that turned out to be complete bullshit too. He was also sued by a short-seller for that 'stunt' too: Short Seller Sues Tesla and Elon Musk https://www.institutionalinvestor.com/article/b19v68mhvn9m4j/Short-Seller-Sues-Tesla-and-Elon-Musk

Elon will need to borrow against his Tesla/SpaceX shares in order to come up with the cash to complete this offer-that is IF it is accepted-highly doubt it becasue the poison pill provision activated allows the big boi stakeholders (and that incldes Dopey's Kingdom Holdings) to buy Twatter shares at roughly half the current price. According to the article below he has already borrowed against his Tesla and SpaceX stakes to the tune of about $20B-and that leaves about $35B of that available. The catch with doing that is that when those shares drop (like TSLA's did on Friday-37.37 -3.66%) you risk having that collateral being called against your loan, i.e. a margin call-see Archegos Capital last year The other affected person here is serial hopium addict Cathie Wood who's ARKK fund has TSLA as it's highest weight in it's fund @9.56% (and really you can do all this on your own you don't need some dude who dresses up like a woman to buy these stocks and not pay fee's for the privilage on owning these equities) and if were not for TSLA's parabolic rise over the last 1.5 years this "fund" would by down much further than the 30% it was down in the 1st Qtr this year-but I digress.

2 of 2

Now going forward since Elon is a product of this system and pretty much the poster boy for massive Gov't money sucking-it would surprice me greatly if the current offer is accepted because what he has done at this point is make "them" have to expend capital and effort to activate the posion pill as well as having Vanguard increase it's stake. This makes them use resources and spend capital where it could be deployed elsewhere. There has already been someone suing him for not disclosing his stake when it reached 5% and it's just someone who sold and is pissed they did before it was disclosed:

Twitter shareholder sues Elon Musk claiming the Tesla CEO's delay in disclosing his more than 5 percent stake in the social media giant allowed him to buy more shares at lower price

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10712937/Twitter-shareholder-sues-Elon-Musk-failing-disclose-ownership-stake.html

The SEC has a rule that requires anyone to disclose a position of 5% or moar but they never enforce anything cause they are too busy looking at pron all day:

from 2011

The SEC Employees Watching Porn At Work Were Making Over $200,000/Year

https://www.businessinsider.com/some-of-the-sec-employees-watching-porn-were-making-over-200k-not-fired-2011-3

I've looked at the Twatter OpEx purchases (from Friday and the volume from it only) for the short term 0422expiry and quite a bit of activity on the Call Side (long) at the $47 strikes and up beyond $50 (@ $50 there was 60,140 purchased@.87 cents) were purchased on Friday -see cap #1. These are not huge #'s $ wise but quite a bit moar on the Call side as opposed to the Put (short) side. Some decent size Put purchases on the $40 strike for 0422 @45,785 on friday too-cap #2 . While that is not a huge amount of money for Wall St. It represent some retail making some bets on some big movements next week on Friday.

The only other thing that stands out a bit volume wise is the 061722 Put strikes at $40 with 11,242 purchased at about $2.55 per contract-see cap#3. Someone betting it's gonna be below $40 by June 17th or prior and since those are pretty expensive (premiums) you are effectively paying the issuer to take the long side as well cause they have to hedge. This could be Musk's hedge because if it dos tank-see below-those will pay off HANDSOMELY. The other thing at play here is that the crowded trade is "up" obviously because of the huge premium offered per share against it's market price. The system having to pay out huge if this goes up a lot next week early (calls) so likely see a movement down because that is a decent amount of money sitting there (payout-wise) if it does move up. I wouldn't be surprised at all if those June Put strikes $40 represented some of his (needed) hedge.-see below

Since Musk will not have gone into this without a hedge as this offer @ $54.20 is effectively refused because of the poison pill activation. If he doesn't up the share price amount in an amended offer this thing is gonna tank-plus depending on lock-ups all those shares purchased at roughly half price -the bog boi posion pill purchases and the recent Vanguard purchases-are going to want to be disposed of in the open market (if they are able to) at a profit because why have that many when you still have full control of it?

Asian Market Report/Au-Ag/U.S. Futures/Yen continues to slide-watch of FRB currency swaps to show up soon

In a normally quiet period for metals they are both up nicely and at 5 week highs in early trading Au/Ag both at and US Futures are down as moar "muh Inflation" concerns-that is sooo fuggen tired. Ag gets "good" at it's most recent high of just under $27 and Gold at just over $2000 as there were two days in mid-march where it was at $2075/50 and then right back down-hello COMEX paper dump so those don't really count. They write PLENTY of articles on Gold when it goes up...tonight it's up about .50% but Silver was up over 1% and still higher than gold after that nice little intra-day head and shoulders on Ag.

Muh ¥ is continuing it's swan dive and Kuroda at The B.O.J attempting to "cool it off" but it's not working to well-right back up shruggin off muh, muh, muh, muh Kuroda's comments earlier-see yellow on cap #3 and article below. It's at a 20yr low right now and doesn't look likely to improve. I've mentioned before that we may see the FRB start doing some currency swaps and buying an ass-ton of ¥ so it strengthens but this will be temporary at best as they are "paying" the price for decades of loose monetary policy and are stuck becuase they can't raise rates AT ALL or the the whole "tonkatsu" falls apart. The B.O.J meet next week, sit around at table and continue to not do nuffin so currency swaps with the FRB is about all they have left.

>>133358 pb in watch for FRB currency swap news: Sinking yen can be 'bad' for Japan, finance chief says in rare remark-nikkei

According the the CFTC levered short positions on muh ¥ are at a 3 year high so again another example of a crowded trade so certainly look for some intervention soon as the COMEX doesn't have the cash flow to pay off yet ANOTHER crowded trade. It's funny they keep saying "it may go to ¥130 in the comng months"...how about a few days as it was at ¥122.xx on April 1st.

and 'member this from Wayyyyy back in mid-March../s it was at 119 then

BOJ’s Kuroda Steps Up Warning on ‘Very Rapid’ Yen Moves

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said recent rapid yen moves were fueling negative effects on the economy in remarks that sparked a strengthening of the yen. “Recent yen moves have been very rapid,” Kuroda said in response to questions in parliament Monday. “A significantly weak yen or very rapid moves fuel the negative effects.” Kuroda is escalating his rhetoric after describing the Japanese currency as “somewhat weak” earlier this month. Still, Kuroda maintained his view that a weak yen is positive for the economy overall. The yen briefly strengthened to 126.25 against the dollar following the remarks, having reached 126.79, before Kuroda spoke-and it's heading right back there now. The governor said it is desirable for foreign exchange rates to reflect economic fundamentals and to move in stable manner. Given the overall state of the economy, he said it was still appropriate for the central bank to continue with its monetary stimulus.

China GDP expands by 4.8% in Q1 despite COVID-19 woes

dis won't last long AT ALL

China's gross domestic product expanded by a better-than-expected 4.8% in the first quarter from a year earlier but the country's worst COVID-19 outbreak threatens to hold back the economy. The January to March data, published on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics, was above the average forecast of 4.3% by 30 economists polled by Nikkei last month. On a quarterly basis, the economy ticked up 1.3%, as China grapples with uncertainty over the Ukraine war, a weak property market and the country's worst COVID-19 outbreak since the pandemic began more than two years ago, which sparked widespread lockdowns that choked growth. Major cities from Tianjin and Jilin in the northeast to Shanghai and factory hub Shenzhen in the south were temporarily locked down during the quarter, crippling industrial production and household spending. As much of the world moves toward living with the virus, China has doubled down on a zero-COVID strategy that aims to eradicate any sign of infection through strict curbs on movement and mass testing. But analysts have warned that the measures are a drag on growth.

USA, UK, Italy, Turkey show readiness to become guarantors of Ukraine's security – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy and Turkey demonstrate their readiness to become guarantors of Ukraine's security, but there is still no final answer from anyone

"Today, those who demonstrate that they are ready, we do not have any signatories yet, but there is a demonstration, from [Boris] Johnson, from Great Britain, from the United States, from Italy, from Turkey. I think it will be separate from the European Union," he said in an interview with the Ukrainian online media on Saturday. "I spoke separately with Ursula [President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen], separately with Charles Michel [Head of the European Council Charles Michel], France, Germany. We will do the first circle of conversation in this format for five (Britain, the United States, Germany, France, Poland). Then other countries will join," Zelensky said. According to the publication, Zelensky believes that Ukraine will not have a problem with weapons or sanctions against the aggressor country, but there will be issues with the military component.

Bank Of America Reports Record Equity Trading Revenue But Investors Unimpressed As I-Banking Slumps 35%

A smaller "turd" than the others but turd nontheless

This morning, the earnings reports from the big US money-center banks concluded when Bank of America reported better-than-expected first-quarter results. Similar to its major bank peers, BofA reported very strong sales and trading revenue (which at $4.7 billion topped the average analyst estimate of about $4.3 billion), offset by weaker than expected investment banking revenues and in line. Overall, revenue came in at $23.23 billion, up 2% Y/Y (and 5% Q/Q), and just shy of the $23.24 billion expected, resulting in EPS of $0.80, which beat consensus estimates of $0.74 if coming below the $0.86 in Q1 2021. The bank also reported net interest income of $11.68 billion, up 13% from $10.3 billion, which also modestly missed estimates of $11.72 billion. NIM rose again, from 1.67% to 1.69%, which was also below the 1.71% consensus estimate, with the bank clarifying that a 100bps parallel shift in the rate yield curve is estimate to benefit net interest income by $5.4BN over the next 12 months. The increase in net interest income was “supported by strong loan and deposit growth,” CFO Borthwick said in the statement. “Going forward, and with the forward curve expectation of rising interest rates, we anticipate realizing more of the benefit of our deposit franchise.”

Some more key details from the quarter:

*Wealth & investment management total revenue $5.48 billion, estimate $5.43 billion

*Return on average equity 11%, estimate 10.1%

*Return on average assets 0.89%, estimate 0.82%

*Return on average tangible common equity 15.5%, estimate 14.2%

First quarter results were strong despite challenging markets and volatility,” Chief Financial Officer Alastair Borthwick said in a statement. “Going forward, and with the forward curve expectation of rising interest rates, '''we anticipate realizing more of the benefit of our deposit franchise”.

Translated: we will be able to leverage moar of our customer deposits because interest rare rises make that moar favorable for us to do so

Bank of America is focused on its clients and their trading execution “during what has been a very challenging environment,” while having invested “substantially” in that business, Borthwick added in a call with reporters Monday.

The bank also said that “strong commercial loan growth as well as higher consumer balances” helped drive average loan and lease balances up 8% versus the prior year, to $978 billion. Meanwhile, Bank of America noted that its direct exposure to Russia was “very minor,” although again like many of its peers, BofA built some reserves related to that exposure, and as noted in, the bank's provision for credit losses in Q1 rose to $30 million, below the estimated $366.2 million but the first provision since the covid crash. While trading was solid, investment banking revenue at BofA was also disappointing, $1.457 billion, below the estimate $1.67 billion, and down 35% from $2.246 billion a year ago; global banking IB fees was even uglier at just $880MM, down from $1.18 billion a year ago. Additionally, the bank also disclosed that a $0.2BN provision for credit losses in the Banking group reflected "a reserve build driven by Russian exposure and loan growth, compared to a reserve release in 1Q21."

Turning back to the balance sheet, we find continued growth, with both deposits and loans rising, while shareholder equity shrank to $239BN, leading to a drop in the bank's TCE ratio from 6.2% a year ago to 5.3%. And yes, thanks to buybacks BofA's total shares outstanding declined by half a billion from 8.59BN to 8.06BN.

EPS 'creation' at it's finest

Corn Hits $8 a Bushel for First Time Since 2012 on Supply Woes

Corn futures in Chicago exceeded $8 a bushel for the first time in almost a decade, approaching a record high as war threatens global supplies, boosting demand for U.S. grain. Prices haven’t touched $8 since September 2012, after devastating drought and heat damaged crops in the U.S. Midwest. Futures are nearing an all-time high of $8.49 a bushel reached that same year. The global outlook for corn supplies has taken a hit as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine disrupts farming and trade flows in a region responsible for about a fifth of exports. That comes on top of a surge in fertilizer costs that’s dimming planting prospects in the U.S., the world’s top shipper. Demand is increasing as well. For the second week in a row, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported a sale of American corn to China exceeding 1 million tons.

Ukraine’s next corn crop could fall almost 40% from last year, a local grain association said earlier this month. U.S. farmers are poised to plant more soybeans than corn for just the third time ever as record fertilizer prices prompt growers to turn away from the cost-intensive grain.

The most-active contract rose as much as 2.2% to $8.0075 a bushel

>The other affected person here is serial hopium addict Cathie Wood who's ARKK fund has TSLA as it's highest weight in it's fund @9.56% (and really you can do all this on your own you don't need some dude who dresses up like a woman to buy these stocks and not pay fee's for the privilege on owning these equities)

Muh Upgrade!!!

Cathie Wood Says ARK Will Open Source More Of Its Financial Models

On Sunday, "famed" investor Cathie Wood of ARK Invest said she planned on "open sourcing" more of her firm's financial models, in an attempt to share their vision "of companies with exponential growth opportunities". To which Wall Street likely replied, "No, God, please! We've suffered enough!" Wood, who has "open sourced" the firm's Tesla models before (only to have them promptly disassembled and critiqued by actual financial analysts), also raised her price target on Tesla to $4,600 by 2026 and a valuation of $5 trillion, MSN reported this weekend. Because...well...why not?

“Ark Invest will ‘open source’ many more of our models, particularly those for companies whose exponential growth opportunities are not well understood, during the next few months,” Wood wrote to her adoring legion of fans on twitter. Earlier this month, Wood once again doubled down on her strategies on CNBC, stating she was confident that ARKK could return a 50% compounded annual rate of return over the next five years and crowing that her firm could be staring at “very big exponential growth opportunities”.

Recall, back in February, we also wrote that Wood was looking to conveniently start a new fund that limits how quickly her investors can exit. ARK Investment Management filed back in February "for a closed-ended 'interval' fund that would expand her flagship strategy into harder-to-trade assets," like those in less liquid markets, Yahoo! Finance reported. Called the ARK Venture Fund, her new fund will target “illiquid securities and securities in which no secondary market is readily available, including those of private companies.”

Just the type of strategy you have to have in your playbook with the market in its largest bubble in years and the Fed offering up a rate hike pin.

Vietnam arrests former coast guard chief in 'embezzlement' case

Vietnam's Defense Ministry has detained a former commander of its coast guard on suspicion of embezzlement, the government said on Monday, the latest arrest as the ruling Communist Party intensifies its long-running crackdown on graft. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Son was arrested last Wednesday along with six other senior coast guard officials over their involvement in an "embezzlement case," the government said in a statement, which did not elaborate on the alleged offense.

Reuters could not immediately reach the Vietnam Coast Guard for comment. "This is a very serious case that attracts attention from the public," the government statement said, adding that Son was sacked in October. The state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper cited the Defense Ministry as saying that Son was responsible for violations committed at the Coast Guard between 2015 and 2020, including "financial mismanagement" and "procurement irregularities."

The politburo, the party's powerful decision-making body, last month called for the corruption crackdown to be stepped up. Among those arrested recently have been several business people, including the chairmen of property firm FLC and Bamboo Airways and Tan Hoang Minh Group.

Police on Thursday arrested Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung on suspicion of bribery.

Biden announces Fed nominee Michael Barr after Raskin withdrawal

Michael Barr previously worked in the Obama and Clinton administrations.

President Biden will nominate Michael Barr to be vice chair for supervision of the Federal Reserve after the failed nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin.

Barr is a former Obama and Clinton administration official and is currently at the University of Michigan.

"Michael brings the expertise and experience necessary for this important position at a critical time for our economy and families across the country," Biden said in a statement. "Barr has spent his career protecting consumers, and during his time at Treasury, played a critical role in creating both the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the position for which I am nominating him." Raskin, Biden's previous pick for the Federal Reserve's top banking regulator, withdrew her nomination last month, according to a source familiar with the matter, after Republicans and one key Democrat opposed her nomination. In a letter to Biden obtained by the New Yorker, Raskin blamed "relentless attacks by special interests," who opposed her view that climate change could pose a threat to economic stability, for derailing her nomination.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/biden-fed-nominee-michael-barr-raskin-withdrawal

Barr previously served as assistant treasury secretary for financial institutions under former President Barack Obama and was one of the driving forces behind the regulatory changes following the financial crisis, including the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the agency established to monitor credit cards, mortgages, and other financial products used by consumers that has since become a top target of Republicans. Barr also served on the National Economic Council.

missed this before-FRBNY is/has lowered the eligibility requirements $-wise so that moar are 'eligible' for the cash-for-trash program

Statement Regarding Standing Repo Facility Counterparty Eligibility Criteria

The Open Market Trading Desk at the New York Fed is implementing the following adjustment to the Standing Repo Facility counterparty eligibility criteria for depository institutions. The requirement for these institutions to have total U.S. Treasury, agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities holdings equal to or greater than $5 billion or total assets equal to or greater than $30 billion is being reduced to $2 billion and $10 billion, respectively. This change is intended to make the Standing Repo Facility accessible to a broader range of depository institutions, in line with the Federal Open Market Committee’s stated intent to expand access to depository institutions over time and the New York Fed’s efforts to ensure that its counterparty policies promote a fair and competitive marketplace. All other eligibility criteria and expectations remain the same.

Mkt Fag: Muh upgrades of Tesla, Bank of America Italy shiney turd and 30 minutes before Yerp closes it all goes pear-shaped...gets some help then oh fuqqq into the close edition

NASDAQ close -18.72(-0.14%):23(red circle at top middle of cap#2)

Opened up and the same lather, rinse, repeat pattern that has been tirelessly applied by the NY FED 'Chicago' office plays out (see linkys below)...until Europe closed. Then it has to 'stand on it's own'-nice double top in the DOW at 10:42am EST and 11:12am EST and then at 12:06pmEST 3.08M transaction where it wandered around but some bigger chunks being split up and thrown at it so it did not cliff dive. Someone got out from the NAS in a big way all day-starting shortly after the open at 9:52am EST, then at 10:18am but shortly after that someone "rushed" in to "help" at 10:22am and up it went. But at 10:50am EST they couldn't help themselves and another BIG exit (1.25B) and they continued to get larger: 11:24am(1.51B) 11:26am (1.52B) and just after Yerp closed at 11:30am EST there was an even bigger one at 11:34am of 1.59B. But come on in the water is just "fine". And as if by some form of "magic" right on the fuggen DOT at 1pm EST we get 2.14B and UP it went-but hold on dhere a minute cause someone can't contian themselves and dropped 2.22B on it shortly after at 1:14pm EST. These got bigger and bigger as the day wore on allowing for big boi exits. After it went red, shortly before Europe closed it finally went green at about 1:38pm EST (along with everything else not nailed down). Bigger.....1.46B at 1:46pmEST 2.42B @ 1:48pm EST 2.68B at 2:32pm and 2.70B 2 minutes later @ 2:34PM.....and on it went into the close-all these are indicated by the black dots above the big volume spikes. Those 'most shorted stocks' totally assisting in this shit earlier in the day but those got sold off from the LOD to the peak with the last big block-when will they learn.....But they couldn't keep it up in the end and off a cliff it went and that began with that last big chunk at 2:34pm EST. The volume picked up in all the indices towards the close-especially the SP500 whre they almost managed it to go green but missed by .02% and a BIG spray job (painting the tape) all over everywhere.

Think this is Softbank >>132098, >>132383 pb on these big exits because not all these shorts are gonna push the button at the same exact minute and Softbank does not hide when they get out-din't in late 2020 and not doing it nao imo. Eventually the Financial media will pick up (or not!) on these big exits-they were the NASDAQ whale in 2020 and it took them FOREVER to see wut pepe saw only after a few days-this is the same shit now. Trust me if pepe sees 'dis everyone else on the trading desks see it too-member these are just basic mountain style charts with barebones data-I could bore you to death with the techincal stuffs but no one wants to hear or see dhat-all fake any way.

Oil....keepin' it up and over a hundy as Armaco needs ta get it's shit in gear and push out the next chunk via IPO or demand destruction gonna play havoc on the price-there was a big exit on April 13th on WTI COMEX contracts so they are getting 'nervous' waiting for that. WTI topped $109 - erases Biden SPR plan benefits-see cap #3

Treasury yields went higher starting last night-red box right side in cap #4 but then got turned sideways in the middle. The yield curve continued to steepen with 2s10s back up to +40bps and 7s10s now uninverting.. The dollar kept pushing higher because muh ¥ is continuing it's freefall >>133481 from last night and AG/AU just went nowhere since last night-actually gave most of it back and almost back to the opne from last night Au +3.30 +0.17% and Ag +0.16 +0.60%

Just Six Wall Street Firms Borrowed $116.83 Billion from the Fed’s Money Market Bailout Fund – 72 Percent of the Total

The Federal Reserve has set up a veritable obstacle course to prevent the public from drilling down to see that just six big Wall Street firms received the lion’s share of loans from its emergency funding facility called the Money Market Mutual Fund Liquidity Facility (MMLF). The MMLF made emergency loans from March 23, 2020 through April 23, 2020, but the program did not end on April 23, 2020. That’s because these were not overnight loans. They were loans made for periods up to as long as 11 months in some cases – taking the program into 2021. The MMLF made loans against paper that could not be sold elsewhere that was sitting in money market funds that were having difficulty raising cash to meet redemption requests. The loans were for the same maturity as the paper being put up as collateral. The Fed knew that a Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit would want to combine all borrowing under one corporate parent name, in order to see who got the lion’s share of the money. The Fed knew this because that’s exactly what the GAO did when it audited the Fed’s Wall Street bailout programs that occurred during and after the financial crisis of 2008.

To throw hoops and hurdles in the way of easy access to that information, the Fed listed some of the mutual fund sellers under their corporate parent name but listed other loans from the same corporate parent under the obscure name of individual mutual funds. For example, money market funds owned by BlackRock were sometimes listed as “BlackRock.” In other cases, they were listed as “TempCash” and “Plan Investment Fund.” Another large borrower, Federated, had its money market loans listed under “Federated” as well as acronyms “MOF” and “TFOF” – designations that members of the general public or even government auditors would find next to impossible to decode. It took Wall Street On Parade 12 hours to look up the CUSIP numbers associated with the loans to determine the parent corporation and combine all of their loans under one corporate parent name. and that is boring tedious work so kudos to you-like the reverse repo shit last year (looking up those same CUSIP #'s to determine what shit they shoved out the door)-know how that feelz We were left with the overarching suspicion that the Fed intentionally released this data in this form to hide the fact that, once again – despite a statutory mandate to do otherwise – it set up a loan facility that failed the test as being broad-based to a large number of participants.

As the chart above shows, just six Wall Street firms received 72 percent of the $162.9 billion in cumulative loans made under the MMLF. The total cumulative loans for the six firms were as follows: Federated $27.75 billion, JPMorgan $24.8 billion, Morgan Stanley $19.55 billion, UBS $17.3 billion, Wells Fargo $15.5 billion, BlackRock $11.98 billion

In other reporting we have done on the various Fed bailout programs, we have also provided the term-adjusted totals to illustrate which firms had use of the cheap Fed money for longer periods of time. With other Fed bailout programs, that was a fairly simple process because the Fed provided a column on its Excel spreadsheet with the specific number of days in the term of the loan. For example, in its Primary Dealer Credit Facility, the Fed provided a column showing the loan was outstanding for one day, 14 days, 28 days, 42 days, etc. But with the MMLF, that column has gone missing. Just the maturity date is listed for 1,508 individual loan transactions, meaning we would have to calculate the term for all of those loans. Instead, we simply calculated which Wall Street firm had the largest sums outstanding into 2021. It became quickly clear that Morgan Stanley got larger sums for longer periods of time. No other firm came close.

As the chart -cap #2, Morgan Stanley had $13.69 billion in loans maturing in the same year the loan was originated – 2020. But a whopping $5.86 billion of Morgan Stanley’s loans under the MMLF stretched into 2021. For example, on March 30, 2020, Morgan Stanley took out two loans of $215 million for a total of $430 million. Those loans did not mature until March 26, 2021 – almost a year later. Under the Federal Reserve Act’s statutory mandates, the Fed’s emergency loan programs are to be short-term in nature, available to a broad base of participants, and not used to bail out any single institution. Loans lasting for almost one year are decidedly not short-term in nature.Six institutions obtaining 72 percent of a Fed emergency bailout program is decidedly not broad-based. And extremely large sums were used to bail out Commercial Paper and Certificates of Deposits issued by the giant global bank, Credit Suisse, that were residing in the money markets funds. That was a big help to Credit Suisse by not driving down the value of its paper further. On just one day, March 30, 2020, BlackRock borrowed $1.48 billion against Credit Suisse Certificates of Deposits that resided in its various money market funds.

It was not until March 31, 2022 that the Fed released the names of the firms taking out loans from its MMLF and the amounts they had borrowed. The Fed was required to do that under the 2010 financial reform legislation known as Dodd-Frank. We’re very certain that Congress intended that information to be far more user-friendly than the transaction data the Fed provided to the public for its MMLF. There are numerous reasons why the Fed might have wanted to obscure what was going on in the MMLF. For one thing, much of Fed Chair (Pro Tempore) Jerome Powell’s money has been managed by BlackRock. Now we see that BlackRock was getting yet another bailout of its own problems from the Fed while it had also received three no-bid contracts to run the corporate bond/ETF bailout programs for the Fed. See our report: Fed Chair Powell Had 4 Private Phone Calls with BlackRock’s CEO Since March as BlackRock Manages Upwards of $25 Million of Powell’s Personal Money and Lands 3 No-Bid Deals with the Fed.

How long is it going to take before the Senate Banking and House Financial Services Committees conduct critically-needed investigations of these Fed bailout programs and/or order a GAO audit?
