I found something that's creeping me out.
Turns out group selection is real and we have proof now. Nightshades selecting for self-rejection, object level boring bla bla bla https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ioWH9ERY3TTzRJFTD/group-selection-update
It also turns out that the whole thing is obvious (anyone with half a brain knew before we had proof) and compatible with reductionist gene-centric models, that is, the people claiming it wasn't possible were "not even wrong".
Now it gets creepy. There are way too fucking many articles, books, etc. going back a long time about how group selection is a dangerous, misguided, etc. (heretical) mistake. Yudkowsky wrote "The tragedy of group selectionism", Steven Pinker has "The false allure of group selection"…
All of them are on the same side! Replacement of all fun activities (it's all signaling/romanticism anyway) with fun pills, maximum atomization, selfish masturbationism, destroying metis out of spite, etc.
It's obviously not a conspiracy but damn, I didn't expect alien memeplexes to be that capable of brainwashing otherwise intelligent people. Yud is smart enough I'm tempted to believe he's just lying but also passionate enough I could buy him lying to himself.
We have to figure this shit out /ratanon/ so help me here. What stands to lose if people understand individuals / genes are not the only real agents?
