Former House Speaker Paul Ryan says it's 'really clear' Biden won fairly in 2020 as Wisconsin GOP leaders pursue $680,000 election audit

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan reiterated this week that it was "clear" former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election as GOP leaders in Wisconsin, a state he represented in Congress for 20 years, continued to pursue an investigation and audit of the results.

"It was not rigged. It was not stolen. Donald Trump lost the election. Joe Biden won the election. It's really clear," Ryan told Wisconsin's ABC affiliate WISN 12 in an interview that was published on Tuesday.

Nearly 10 months after the presidential race, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is still overseeing an audit and investigation of the 2020 election led by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, who has traveled both to the site of a GOP-backed election review in Arizona and to the election conspiracist and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell's cybersymposium.

The election investigation could cost Wisconsin taxpayers $680,000.

"He exhausted his cases. He exhausted the court challenges. None of them went his way, so he legitimately lost," Ryan further told WISN 12 of Trump's election loss. "Is there mischief, organized shenanigans in elections? Sure. Is there fraud? Yes. Was it organized to the extent that it would have swung the Electoral College and the presidential election? Absolutely not."

PA Senate President Corman calls for renewed, full forensic audit of 2020 election in Pennsylvania

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — 10 months after the 2020 Presidential Election, State Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman calls for a renewed, full forensic investigation into the Pennsylvania elections process. He said the results are final, but the process needs oversight.

“This isn’t about changing results, this is about putting a process in so we can educate ourselves so that everybody, whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, whatever, has faith in the results moving forward, and that’s our goal,” said Senator Corman.

In Pennsylvania, President Biden defeated former President Trump by about 80,000 votes. The votes are certified, but Senator Corman said the community is still questioning the logistics.

“There’s certainly a large segment of the population just judging by the phone calls and the contacts that I’ve received that are concerned with our last election,” said Corman.

He said some points of concern include removing absentee signature verification, counting ballots after election day, and creating drop boxes without security.

“A lot of it was things surrounding the secretary of state and things that she did during the last election that was unprecedented,” said Corman.

Senate Democrats are primarily opposed to the audit, calling it unwarranted and unprecedented.

“They’re going to be a part of it, and again it has to be something that they have faith in as well,” said Corman. “It’s done through a committee process which there are Democratic members.”

Corman said he has been in contact with Trump on the audit.

“I know he’s contacted a few people including myself, but not about the details of how we’re doing or what we’re doing, just that he was interested in what was going on,” said Corman.

Police arrest suspect in bomb threat at Trump International Hotel

Las Vegas police on Tuesday arrested a suspect who claimed to have left a bomb in the lobby of the Trump International Hotel.

Metropolitan Police Department Capt. Dori Koren said police received a call around 12:53 p.m. that said a man had walked into the hotel lobby and left a large suitcase and duffel at the concierge stand. Moments later, he began yelling that there was a bomb in the building before leaving in a taxi. About 15 minutes later, the hotel received two phone calls relaying bomb threats.

Metro’s All-Hazard Regional Multi-agency Operations and Response team were called to the scene, the department said.

The property was partially evacuated as police investigated the “suspicious items.”

Koren said in a post to Twitter at 4:30 p.m. that investigators found nothing dangerous and the area was deemed safe.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), one of former president Donald Trump’s staunchest congressional allies who has supported an audit of the election results in Wisconsin, acknowledged that the only reason Trump lost the state to Joe Biden was because he underperformed compared with other Republicans, according to a video released Tuesday.

Speaking at a GOP event outside Milwaukee on Sunday, Johnson was asked by a liberal activist who posed as a conservative about the false and debunked belief that Biden won the election because of voter fraud. Instead of supporting the activist’s false theory, Johnson pointed to a different explanation for Trump’s defeat in Wisconsin: Republicans, as a whole, received more votes in races for other statewide offices than the former president.

“There’s nothing obviously skewed about the results,” Johnson said, according to a video posted by liberal activist Lauren Windsor. “If all the Republicans voted for Trump the way they voted for the Assembly candidates, he would have won. He didn’t get 51,000 votes that other Republicans got, and that’s why he lost.”

Biden won Wisconsin by nearly 21,000 votes, flipping a state Trump won in 2016 by about the same margin. President Biden’s win has been repeatedly reaffirmed through recounts and court rulings, and lawsuits from Trump allies and Republicans challenging Biden’s victory were defeated time and time again.

In a statement to The Washington Post, Johnson denounced the “supposed undercover recording by a Democrat political operative” and said his comments surrounding Trump were “consistent with what I’ve been saying publicly on the 2020 election, no need for hidden cameras and secret recordings.” Johnson said he has previously “acknowledged that we should respect our system of individual state certification of election results, and that in Wisconsin, there is nothing obviously wrong with the statewide results.”

Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has said that he supports an audit of his home state's 2020 election results.

He also mentioned that he has spoken with Sidney Powell, a former attorney with the re-election campaign of former President Donald Trump. She has pushed baseless conspiracy theories about fraud in the 2020 election.

Johnson made his comments while speaking with political reporter Lauren Windsor.

"I really do think there's too much concentration on the [voting] machines," he told Windsor. "We have paper ballots. We have the machine logs. We've got the machine totals. We should be focusing on that."

The top candidates running to replace Gov. Newsom in the California recall election

A colorful cast of more than 40 candidates from all political persuasions are vying to replace Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in California’s recall election, but only a handful have managed to break through the pack.

The candidates have two weeks left to convince voters to boot Newsom out of office and choose them as a replacement.

These are Newsom’s most notable challengers:

John Cox

Republican John Cox may be most recognized for his campaign antics — barnstorming with a 1,000-pound live Kodiak bear named Tag, using an 8-foot ball of trash to symbolize the state’s homelessness problem and standing on top of a giant “Gavinopoly” board to attack high taxes and promote his plan to slash income taxes by 25%.

Cox, a San Diego businessman, has been successful in generating headlines, including when he was served with a subpoena while onstage during the August 17 debate.

Running as a political outsider, Cox has never held office before and lost badly to Newsom in 2018 when he challenged the Democratic governor, who won with more than 60% of the vote.

Cox opposes California’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates and mask requirements. During a debate early in August, he called Newsom’s handling of the pandemic “an absolute disaster” that “resulted in far more danger and far more problems.”

His plan to end California’s homelessness problem is to force the state’s unhoused population to receive mental health and addiction treatment before being provided housing.

Larry Elder

Newsom’s leading Republican replacement appears to be conservative talk show host and attorney Larry Elder, who would be California’s first Black governor if he wins the recall election.

Though a late entry to the race, Elder quickly rose to the top of the polls among the candidates vying to replace Newsom. Though a majority of voters would have to vote to recall Newsom on the ballot’s first question, if the recall succeeds Newsom’s successor would be selected by a plurality of California voters — meaning the winner may only have to get a fraction of the votes.

But Elder’s rise has come with heavy scrutiny — even calls from fellow GOP recall opponents to drop out of the race — because of his long history of disparaging remarks about women. He has also been accused of domestic violence and of brandishing a gun in 2015 by his then-fiancée and former employee Alexandra Datig. Elder has denied the allegations.

Like his rival Republican recall candidates, Elder would repeal Newsom’s Covid-19 mask and vaccine mandates for state workers, who must either be vaccinated or tested weekly for the virus. He opposes minimum wage, cashless bail and defunding the police. He has said he will declare a homeless emergency and suspend the California Environmental Quality Act, which he argues contributes to the state’s affordable housing crisis.

Elder has skipped the debates, saying the only person he wants to debate is Newsom.

Kevin Faulconer

Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has the experience of being elected to lead a Democratic-majority city as a Republican, which he has touted as an asset to governing the blue state of California.

He has proposed $1 billion in annual wildfire prevention funding, an exemption for military retirees from income taxes, a cut in the marginal tax rate to 0% for the first $50,000 earned by individuals, and the first $100,000 earned by families, who make less than $1 million a year.

During debates, Faulconer slammed Newsom for his approach to the Covid-19 pandemic, arguing that local school districts should make decisions about mask mandates in discussion with parents.

While several of the GOP candidates have focused on Newsom, Faulconer has also attacked Elder, including for his “unconscionable” comments about women.

Trump 2020 legal adviser Jenna Ellis endorses Republican Josh Mandel for Senate seat in Ohio

Jenna Ellis, a senior legal adviser to former President Donald Trump's 2020 campaign, is endorsing Ohio Republican candidate Josh Mandel for U.S. Senate.

Ahead of a rally Tuesday evening where they will appear together, along with Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers, Ellis told the Washington Examiner that she believes Mandel is the best person to represent Ohio in Washington, D.C.

“I am proud to endorse Josh Mandel for U.S. Senate. I am convinced he is the best person to send to Washington not only to represent the patriotic people of Ohio, but also because he is principled and will champion conservative and faith-based values," Ellis said in a statement. "The swamp is corrupt, and we need defenders in Washington who will protect states’ rights from the elitists’ power grab. I’ve been very impressed with his record of service, both as a veteran and in Ohio state office. Josh has my full support!”

Mandel, a Marine veteran and former state treasurer, announced he was running to fill a seat that will become vacant in 2022 after incumbent Sen. Rob Portman said he will not seek reelection.

Mandel is a supporter of the "America First" agenda, dubbing himself "Pro-God," "Pro-gun," and "Pro-Trump," according to his website.

He has already received endorsements from senators in Washington, including Mike Lee of Utah and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming. Conservative talk-show host Mark Levin has also endorsed Mandel.

Democrats Morgan Harper, Tim Ryan, Demar Sheffey, and Richard Taylor are seeking the Democratic nomination in the primary. Republicans Neil Patel, John Berman, Mike Gibbons, Michael Leipold, Zachary Musick, Bernie Moreno, and J.D. Vance are facing against Mandel for the Republican nomination.

The primaries will be held May 3, 2022.

Three Arizona congressmen slated to speak on election 'audit superpanel' at a Las Vegas QAnon conference

According to organizers, the conference is a follow-up to the "Patriot Round-Up," a similar event held in Dallas.

Each of the legislators that will speak at the conference supported the Arizona election audit.

Other speakers include Michael Flynn, Ron Watkins, Jim Watkins, and far-right conspiracy theorists.

In October, a group that spouts fringe conspiracy theories related to QAnon will host "The Patriot Double Down," a three-day conference at Las Vegas' Caesars Forum with several keynote speakers including Arizona Legislature Republicans Rep. Mark Finchem, Sen. Sonny Borrelli, and Rep. Leo Biasiucci, the Phoenix New Times reported.

The fundamental reason for The current criticism of Freemasonry

The hypothesis of this paper is that with the exception of the Roman Catholic Church, a particular kind of theology called dispensational fundamentalism is the driving force behind the current effort by a small number of very vocal people pushing their conservative churches and denominations to condemn the masonic fraternity as a false, or even Satanic, religion. Most of the current criticisms against Freemasonry are coming, not from members of the Southern Baptist Convention, but from members belonging to independent churches and other denominations.

I do not wish to attack anyone’s religious belief or faith, and let me hasten to say that many men who consider themselves conservatives and/or fundamentalists are active and dedicated freemason. I, myself, am a conservative in theology.

I believe I understand the mindset of those individuals who seek to condemn Freemasonry. I seek to explain and not attack.

One recent illustration can be offered. A church in State College, Pennsylvania, has told its members,

"It is hoped that those members and adherents… who are Freemasons will choose to disassociate themselves with Freemasonry and inform the Board of Elders and the Pastor of their decision. The Board of Elders along with the Pastor will meet with each member who desires to remain a Freemason and decide on the appropriate action in each case."

I and several others from the Masonic Information Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, flew to State College to speak to freemasons and critics representing clergy in several churches in the State College area in an attempt to resolve some of the questions being raised about our fraternity. We were extremely pleased with the response and the anti-masonic rhetoric has subsided, although it has not died out completely.

A number of reasons have been proposed for the current anti-masonic effort, but I would argue that they are outward signs or symptoms of a much deeper cause. Several reasons being offered, but which miss the real cause are:

Some freemasons have speculated that perhaps some masonic critics were turned down when they petitioned for lodge membership. While this may be true, I have found no evidence of that. I have found that some freemasons, such as Jim Shaw, joined the fraternity for the wrong reasons. He grew up in an abusive home. His father deserted the family when Jim was only a few months old. His mother remarried. His step-father beat him and his mother. Then, his step-father threw him out of the house at age 13. His parents gave him little religious training. Shaw looked to Masonry–he was encouraged to "try to be like your Uncle Irvin" who was a "good man and a Mason." He joined the fraternity and began an active member, eventually becoming a 32°( KCCH). When he became a Christian, Shaw said he found what he was looking for in his newfound faith in Christ. Because Freemasonry had not provided what he had hoped it would, he turned against it.

James Larry Holly, the Beaumont, Texas physician who was recognized as the leading Southern Baptist critic of Freemasonry between 1985 and 1994 states that one of the reasons he is opposed to Freemasonry is because it is a religion. Indeed, all masonic critics begin with the assumption that Freemasonry is a religion. But Holly has a more personal reason for his opposition to the fraternity. His father is a freemason and an Episcopalian. Holly says his father is not a Christian and blames Freemasonry because he claims his father was told Freemasonry is all the religion he needs.

Money is a driving force for many masonic critics. In fact, most of the agitators are people who operate a ministry seeking to condemn not only Freemasonry, but the Roman Catholic Church and other religious groups they have decided are not "Christian." Sensational stories sell magazines and books just as putting a scantily-clad woman on the cover of a paperback sells books. Ed Decker finds streets in Washington, DC that form a five-pointed star or pentagram and a square and compasses. To fire up his readers, Decker calls his diagram an "occult iceberg" with the White House, the Washington Monument and the House of the Temple within his "Masonic conspiracy puzzle." He sees the head and ears of what satanists call the goat of Mendes in the circle drive and short streets behind the Capitol and associates this with Freemasonry. When he finishes spinning his web, he concludes that the United States is under the control of freemasons and assorted other groups.

In some countries, politics plays an important part in the condemnation of the fraternity. This is a primary reason behind the Roman Catholic Church’s opposition to the fraternity. A freemason, Giuseppe Garibaldi, led the successful effort to crush the temporal power of the Pope in Italy, reducing the Roman Catholic Church’s holding in Italy to the 109-acre Vatican City. This successful effort was a main catalyst for Pope Leo XIII’s infamous encyclical, Humanum Genus, in 1884. It condemned Freemasonry as a "wicked force" and a "contagious disease" because freemasons:

call for religious liberty;

call for separation of [the Roman Catholic] Church and state;

call for education of children by laymen rather than the [Roman Catholic] Church and;

believe people have the right to make their own laws and elect their own government.

Cardinal Caro y Rodriquez, Archbishop of Santiago, Chile, was opposed to Freemasonry because he claimed freemasons were behind the removal of the crucifix and images from public schools (after the Chilean elections of 1924); were behind the organization of the Boy Scouts "with the concealed purpose of alienating the children from the [Catholic] Church;" were behind the effort to replace the Catechism and influence of Catholic parents with "teachers of lay morality, without religion;" and favors and helps Protestantism, which he defined as "a rebellion against the authority established by His Church by Our Lord Jesus Christ."

Dictatorships such as Nazi Germany and various communist countries drove the fraternity underground during the early part of this century.

I would argue that all of these illustrations are but symptoms of a far more fundamental hatred of the fraternity.

I will present what I firmly believe is the fundamental reason for the attack on the fraternity at this time in history.

DISPENSATIONAL FUNDAMENTALISM

A particular kind of theology called dispensational fundamentalism is the driving force for all Protestant evangelical critics of the fraternity. Dispensationalism traces its roots to the early 1800s with Margaret MacDonald and John Nelson Darby who began to teach that evil would soon take control of the world under the rule of the Antichrist, who is the beast in the Book of Revelation, who will fight Christ in the final Battle of Armageddon. This particular theology found its main followers within rural, less educated Christians, until the mid-1960s when it became increasingly popular among more educated main-stream Christians such as independent churches and then Southern Baptists.

Professor Donald Bloesch of Dubuque Seminary finds that one of the marks of dispensational fundamentalism is its inordinate attention given to eschatology; an emphasis on the last days of human history.

According to this theology, the world as we know it will last 6,000 years. Since it was created about 4000 BC, or 6,000 years ago, we are living in the last days. According to this theology, we are living in the final church age, called the Laodicean age in Revelation 3, which is marked by liberalism and apostasy in the church and moral decay in society.

Signs of this moral decay are said to include the USA Supreme Court rulings disallowing prayers in public schools in 1963 and allowing abortions in 1973, the teaching of evolution, acceptance of homosexuality, the breakdown of the family, drug use, &c.

The creation of the nation of Isræl in 1948 is said to be the greatest sign. Hal Lindsey, a leading popular exponent of dispensational fundamentalism, writes in The 1980’s: Countdown to Armageddon, "And after nearly 2,000 years of wandering through exile, the Jews returned to Palestine and formed the nation of Isræl on May 14, 1948. On that day, the prophetic countdown began!"

The creation of the European Common Market is seen as a fulfillment of the biblical prophecy in Revelation 17 which speaks of ten kings who make war against Christ. Lindsey writes, "When I wrote that in Late Great [Planet Earth in 1970] the only possible successor to the Roman Empire (in my opinion) was the European Common Market."

When he adds the Arabs, Russia and China, Lindsey concludes, "Thus we have all five pieces of the [Old Testament] prophets' scenario for the later days. All the powers–Isræl, the Arabs, Russia, China and the revived Roman Empire–are fixed in place.

Conspiracy hunter and author of the book, The New World Religion, Gary Kah, in a recent program on Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network, warned about the coming "One World Government." He lists groups he claims are promoting the "One World Government." They include the United Nations, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Trilateral Commission. Kah says, "I have found repeatedly, as I have investigated some of these organizations, that the leaders of many of them do belong to one or more of the secret societies, particularly the institution of Freemasonry."

The church and the government have been unwilling or unable to stop the moral decline in our society. It is believed government, religious leaders, church-related academics, and liberal pastors seem to have lost their way and become part of the problem. Fundamentalists see themselves as God’s last hope in our world today.

Everyone is believed to be either for or against God. So-called true believers and so-called unbelievers are divided into two camps. These individuals form the extreme right in the religious world; anyone to the left of them is automatically a part of the other group. Human institutions , civil, political and religious, are inherently defective and doomed.

In the political arena, we see this in the rise of the religious right and the Moral Majority and the candidacy of men such as TV evangelist and masonic critic, Pat Robertson. [SeeThe New World Order, 1991.]

Democracy must be replaced with a theocracy–or rule by God rather than man. Of course, the religious right sees itself as the only avenue through which this can occur. One Southern Baptist leader warned the Republican Party, "evangelical Christians are looking for parties and candidates that endorse their values, not vice versa. I add that if you want evangelical Christians to support you, you must adopt and support their values and concerns."

Democracy has allowed citizens to have too much freedom–where all convictions about right and wrong are of equal value. Fundamentalist Ralph D. Winter said, "I recall with chagrin how naïvely in my youth I accepted that famous line from the Declaration of Independence–'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.' What a poison for any nation to drink."

In addition to the government, the church must be prepared and made pure by purging it of liberalism, false doctrine and unbelievers. The church is called the "bride of Christ" in the New Testament. The church must be a pure virgin when Christ returns. Thus, the purge taking place.

Concerning this purge, there can be no compromise–and the purge is on the fast-track. Total defeat of anyone perceived to be opposed to God is the only goal. Nothing less will do. George Dollar says, "Evil and error must be exposed. It is vital for fundamentalism to resist any tolerance of error and compromise and to maintain its militant spirit." In another book, Dollar defines fundamentalism: "Historic Fundamentalism is the literal exposition of all the affirmations and attitudes of the Bible and the militant exposure of all non-biblical affirmations and attitudes."

Mortimer Ostow says, "Fundamentalists think in terms of black-and-white polarities, finding the intermediate shades of gray inconceivable."

Compromise is not a word in our critics' vocabulary. The hope that masonic critics will eventually forget about the fraternity is a naïve hope which simply will not be realized.

My replacement at the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board has referred to himself as the only official heresy hunter in the SBC. I never considered myself a heresy hunter. His attitude points out a major difference between freemasons and fundamentalists. Freemasons seek friendship even with people whose beliefs are not the same as ours while fundamentalists look for evidence of liberalism, apostasy or toleration with the world and seek to isolate or destroy anyone holding a view different from theirs. Freemasons point out the good they do in society, but the critics are not interested in that good. They do not look for the good, but only for the perceived bad. They look for reasons to condemn and reject.

One fundamentalist pastor recently admitted his philosophy was control. He said, "If I can't control you; I will intimidate you. If I can't intimidate you; I will freeze you out." I experienced all of this during my study of Freemasonry. Our critics will never accept Freemasonry. If freemasons refuse to renounce their membership, they will be intimidated and if necessary frozen out of leadership positions in churches at the least—and fellowship withdrawn at the worst.

Pluralism in America has emerged as another enemy. Harold O. J. Brown asserted that if "evangelical Christians are to have any impact for the transformation of this society… it will be necessary to kill the sacred cow of pluralism."

The questions are often asked, "Is Masonry Satanic?" or "Is Masonry Occultic?" Several reasons for these questions may be cited. First, the Leo Taxil hoax which falsely claims Albert Pike spoke of Lucifer as the god of Freemasonry. Second, the mention of pagan deities such as Isis and Horus in masonic writings. Third, dispensational fundamentalists believe that an increase in satanic or demonic activities is a characteristic of the end times. Therefore, they watch for any signs of this which will confirm their preconceived ideas that Satan and his demons lurk behind every bush.

Williams writes, "One needs only to read one of Frank Peretti’s novels to see how pervasive is this conviction and how committed many fundamentalists are to conspiracy theories."

The current anti-masonic craze may end in a few years–after some of the current end-of-the-world craze dies, but it will never go away. There is very little we can do about most of these issues. We can respond to some or the more blatant charges. We must take seriously the criticisms being leveled against the fraternity. We must get back to the basics of what this fraternity is all about. We must educate the brethren. Promote the fraternity and open it up. You and I know our critics are standing in quicksand with their arguments.

I contend there are very few men who join the fraternity because of our so-called secret teachings. But there are probably many men who would make good freemasons but don't join because of newspaper articles, books, tapes, sermons, etc. which question and attack our organization. My next-door neighbor is an example. He petitioned a lodge and was accepted. He happened to mention this to his minister, a Presbyterian, who warned him about Freemasonry and the man has now decided not to become a freemason.

So what then should we do? We must not concentrate on what our critics are sayings. We must take the high road in all of our efforts as Masons. It is said that actions speak louder than words and this is a case where I believe they do.

I am first of all a theologian and a churchman. I spent more than six years in graduate schools and for over twenty years have studied church growth: why some churches grow and some die. There are a number of well-known reasons, some as simply as changing communities. But a key reason found in all studies is that churches which grow move outside their walls into the communities, to identify the needs of the people they are trying to reach and of meeting those needs. Churches that die do not do this. I contend that Freemasonry must move outside our lodge halls and into our communities, to get involved in helping to solve the growing social problems we face. The men out there are the men we would like to see in here. If I could change one thing about the fraternity, I would insist that every lodge have at least one hands-on project in its community every year where the men of the lodge are seen doing something for their community. It might be something as simple as raking leaves in someone’s yard, or painting someone’s house, or sponsoring a youth ball team. The possibilities are endless—and the rewards are immeasurable. Put on your thinking caps and let’s get busy sharing our light in our communities

Mike Richards is out as producer of ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel’

Mike Richards is out as executive producer of “Jeopardy!”, days after he exited as the quiz show’s newly appointed host because of past misogynistic and disparaging comments.

Richards is also no longer executive producer of “Wheel of Fortune,” according to a memo to staff that was confirmed by Sony Pictures Television, which produces both of the shows.

“We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. That clearly has not happened,” Suzanne Prete, an executive with the game shows, said in the memo.

The lag between Richards’ Aug. 20 decision to step down as host and Sony’s announcement Tuesday was filled with speculation about why the studio was keeping him on. “Jeopardy!” fans called him unsuitable for the venerated show, and there were reports of dissatisfaction by staffers.

“Richards has been perceived as damaged goods since the moment the scandal broke,” said crisis public relations expert Eden Gillott, referring to Richards’ podcast remarks. “It’s surprising that Sony kept Richards on as executive producer for as long as it did.”

In her memo, Prete said she will work with Richards’ interim replacement, Michael Davies, until further notice. Davies produces ABC’s “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.”

James Holzhauer, a “Jeopardy!” champion who mocked Richards when he surrendered the host job, weighed in Tuesday.

“Do I think Mike Richards’s podcast comments were appropriate for polite society? No. But did he deserve the benefit of the doubt for the job he did running Jeopardy? Also no,” Holzhauer tweeted.

The short-lived Richards era caught the attention of comedian and TV host W. Kamau Bell (CNN’s “United Shades of America”).

“I really want the “Tiger King” style documentary on this whole thing,” Bell posted on Twitter.

Richards had signed an overall development deal with Sony in 2019, and was announced as executive producer of “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” in May 2020.

He quickly became controversial when he went from behind-the-scenes to Sony’s pick for host of “Jeopardy!″ — even before his 2013-14 podcast comments demeaning women and making stereotypical remarks about Asian, Jews and others surfaced.

Anointing Richards as successor to the admired Alex Trebek was a questionable choice to some, especially since the studio had conducted a splashy search with guest hosts that included actors, sports figures, journalists — and Richards.

Questions were raised about whether Richards had put his finger on the scale in favor of himself, and whether he had the gravitas that was seen in other candidates, such as fan favorite LeVar Burton. The decision to bypass a person of color or a woman for the flagship show also was criticized, although guest host Mayim Bialik was named host for prime-time “Jeopardy!” specials.

The episodes that Richards taped during his short tenure as host are scheduled to air when the show returns for its 38th season starting Sept. 13; a do-over with a substitute host would be a slap at the contestants and further undermine the show.

Richards largely had game and reality shows on his resume, but “Jeopardy!” is widely regarded as something more: A contest that adheres to civility and is won on the basis of knowledge, and which had long been stewarded by the dignified Trebek. He died in November 2020 at age 80, shortly after taping his final shows.

Richards’ comments on his “The Randumb Show” podcast were reported by The Ringer website, and the ensuing furor prompted him to announce that staying on as host would be “too much of a distraction for our fans” and wrong for the show.

On the podcast, Richards used derogatory, crude language about women and their bodies and disparaged the homeless, among others.

There also was renewed attention to Richards and his 2009-18 tenure as a producer on “The Price is Right.” Several lawsuits had been filed by former models against the show alleging discriminatory behavior, including one which named Richards. He reportedly was dropped from it before a settlement was reached.

When Richards exited as host, Sony said the podcasts and their contents came as a surprise, vowing to hold him to a standard of “professionalism and respect” as producer.

That Sony failed to properly scrutinize Richards from the start was unsupportable, said Gillott, president of Gillott Communications.

The studio “created turmoil within the organization because it didn’t ask the right questions in its search for a host, hesitated in responding to the controversy, and didn’t sever all ties quickly,” she said.

Washington, DC — In a new poll released on Wednesday, over half of Americans believe that President Joe Biden should resign over his handling of Afghanistan. The poll was released by Rasmussen and found 52% of likely American voters believe the President should step down over his failures.

Only 39% disagreed that Biden should not resign. The survey was conducted Monday and Tuesday of 1,000 voters with a +/- 3% margin of error. But that’s not all the bad news for Biden.

Biden has been under scrutiny for how he handled the Afghanistan withdrawal, which left the US scrambling to try and evacuate thousands of Americans and Afghans. Biden set a goal to evacuate them all by August 31, but failed to reach that goal as many were left behind.

Over 100 Afghans and 13 US military members were killed after attacks in Afghanistan during the evacuation. The process was marred by threats against the Kabul airport and the US even launched air strikes against suspected terrorists. Those strikes have been met with scrutiny as well.
