I realized that my initial reaction was unwarranted because my initial focus was 'on me' and not on the world around me of which I am an integral part.

Serenity is not an overreaction and not an overstatement. As I recall the event, that's the only word that comes to mind.

But that's not the whole story.

Now that I had returned to my senses and re-realized that the world does not revolve around me, I began to look around.

Right there in the next line behind the next register was another shopping cart.

This shopping cart also had an infant in it. All alone, waiting for their parent to return from where-ever.

This infant was completely fixated on the goings on in the shopping cart behind me.

Was this second infant angry that he wasn't getting the same type of attention?

Was this infant jealous at the joy of the infant behind me?

No, and no!

He was completely mesmerized and elated. A permanent smile on his face. He was enjoying the happiness of another human being.

In those moments, this infant was happy. I dare say just as happy as the one behind me.

So I asked myself, 'How could this be?'

And then I re-realized that we are truly all connected. I had forgotten this fact as I and many of us so often do.

The moral of the story?

Just like happiness is 'contagious', so is 'despair'. I would posit that all of our human emotions are contagious.

And if this is true, as shown by the event that I was witness to yesterday, then all we heed to do in order to feel good is to focus on those things that are positive in the world around us.

That world of which each and every one of us are an integral part.

That focus away from 'me' and onto 'we' will make me feel good and engender a positive attitude.

That will in turn affect some one else around 'me' and bring them into a positive outlook as well.

We are all connected.

We all have the power to change the world.

One 'me' at a time.

Despite that, he’s finished work on a new book being released May 22, “The Restless Wave.” And he continued to advocate for a return to the days when partisans could disagree without demonizing each other.

“I’d like to see us recover our sense that we’re more alike than different,” McCain said in audio excerpts from his book reported by National Public Radio.

McCain has amplified his call for more civil politics since his diagnosis in July with glioblastoma. It is the same rare and aggressive brain cancer that felled his friend, Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy, at age 77 in 2009, and Biden’s son Beau at 46 in 2015.

He hasn’t been seen in public since December, just before he was hospitalized for a viral infection at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington. He then returned home to Arizona to recover and undergo physical therapy and continuing cancer treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.
