Hello QRB fam. We’ve been taking a look at changes in surroundings of the London pics as Q said to do and we keep getting moar and moar confirmations of the Christmas time period, even Christmas week.

In this latest dig, we focused on construction that occurred over time on the South bank of the Thames in the frames our Q drop pics within the camera frames.

Our sauces are Getty pics, SV images and some Ytube vids, one vid in particular.

In the Q pic ROT1, were two red lights in the lower left of London Eye that turned out to be red safety lights atop 2 construction cranes. In a September 2013 sauce pic, there are no cranes there. By 23NOV2013, in a Ytube vid, there was one crane. And by 14DEC2013 in an open sauce pic there appear two cranes as seen in the Q pics as well as open sauce pics taken on 25DEC2013.

This has been a fun dig and is ongoing. The heavy lifting credit on this should go to our Vidanon who posts nice short sauce comparison vids and also to our UK Baker who has been posting lots of SV images, vids and articles.

NAR: Pending Home Sales Decreased 8.6% in June

Pending home sales decreased in June, following a slight increase in May, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. All four major regions posted month-over-month and year-over-year pullbacks, the largest of which occurred in the West.

The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking indicator of home sales based on contract signings, dipped 8.6% to 91.0 in June. Year-over-year, transactions shrank 20.0%. An index of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001. "Contract signings to buy a home will keep tumbling down as long as mortgage rates keep climbing, as has happened this year to date," said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. **"There are indications that mortgage rates may be topping or very close to a cyclical high in July. If so, pending contracts should also begin to stabilize" According to NAR, buying a home in June was about 80% more expensive than in June 2019. Nearly a quarter of buyers who purchased a home three years ago would be unable to do so now because they no longer earn the qualifying income to buy a median-priced home today.

The Northeast PHSI slid 6.7% compared to last month to 80.9, down 17.6% from June 2021. The Midwest index dropped 3.8% to 93.7 in June, a 13.4% decline from a year ago. The South PHSI slipped 8.9% to 108.3 in June, a decrease of 19.2% from the previous year. The West index slumped 15.9% in June to 68.7, down 30.9% from June 2021. This was well below expectations for this index. Note: Contract signings usually lead sales by about 45 to 60 days, so this would usually be for closed sales in July and August.

Mortgage Applications Decrease in Latest Weekly Survey

Mortgage applications decreased 1.8 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending July 22, 2022.

... The Refinance Index decreased 4 percent from the previous week and was 83 percent lower than the same week one year ago. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index decreased 1 percent from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased 0.4 percent compared with the previous week and was 18 percent lower than the same week one year ago.

“Mortgage applications declined for the fourth consecutive week to the lowest level of activity since February 2000. Increased economic uncertainty and prevalent affordability challenges are dissuading households from entering the market, leading to declining purchase activity that is close to lows last seen at the onset of the pandemic,” said Joel Kan, MBA’s Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting. “Weakening purchase applications trends in recent months have been consistent with data showing a slowdown in sales for newly constructed homes and existing homes. A potential silver lining for the housing market is that stabilizing mortgage rates and increases in for-sale inventory may bring some buyers back to the market during the second half of the year.” Added Kan, “With mortgage rates remaining well over 5 percent, refinance applications are now 83 percent below last year’s pace.”

US Crude Exports Gain 21% to Hit Record High, EIA Says

US crude exports set a new record as Europe scrambles to replace Russian oil supplies amid the superpower’s war on Ukraine.

Exports gained 21% to 4.55 million barrels a day during the week ended July 22, according to Energy Information ccAdministration data released Wednesday. Total crude and oil-product shipments also rose to the highest on record. Those strong flows are likely to continue in the coming weeks as the spread between the US and global oil benchmarks continue to widen, incentivizing exports. That’s in part due to US emergency crude releases that have added to supplies, while the rest of the world grapples with shortages.

EIA Inventory Report Pushes Oil Prices Higher

Crude oil prices rose today after the Energy Information Administration reported a crude oil inventory draw of 4.5 million barrels for the week to July 22. This compared with a modest inventory decline of 400,000 barrels for the previous week. It also compared with an estimated crude oil inventory draw of 4 million barrels for last week, as reported by the American Petroleum Institute.

At 422.1 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6 percent below the average for this time of the year. In gasoline, the authority estimated an inventory decline of 3.3 million barrels for the week to July 22, which compared with a build of 3.5 million barrels for the previous week. Gasoline production last week averaged 9.7 million barrels daily, which compared with 9.4 million bpd a week earlier. In middle distillates, the EIA estimated a stock draw of 800,000 barrels for the week to July 22. This compared with a draw of 1.3 million barrels for the previous week.

Middle distillate production averaged 5 million barrels daily last week, which was almost unchanged on in the previous week.

Pelosis sold $5M in Nvidia stock ahead of vote on chipmaker subsidies

As a Capitol Hill vote looms this week on a controversial, $52 billion subsidy to chipmakers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband quietly offloaded a chunk of shares in semiconductor giant Nvidia, according to public filings.

Paul Pelosi sold the $5 million trove of shares Tuesday at a loss of more than $300,000. It’s unclear whether the couple sold their entire stake or just a portion of it. They could still own as much as $6.5 million in Nvidia, according to congresstrading.com. Meanwhile, the Pelosis still hold a stake in semiconductor company Micron worth as much as $500,000, filings show.

The Nvidia selloff is a dramatic reversal for the Pelosis. Paul began snapping up semiconductor stocks in June 2021 — the same month the first draft of the bill was introduced. He bought between $2.75 million and $11.5 million over the past year and has been actively trading these shares the entire time the bill has wended its way through Congress. Just last month as the bill moved towards a vote, now slated for Thursday in the House, Pelosi bought between $1 million and $5 million more in Nvidia shares. The numbers aren’t clear because members of Congress are only required to list wide ranges in dollar values of their stocks rather than precise figures. They can also use more complex financial instruments like options to get exposure to stocks without holding shares.

“All this shows is she and her husband are still actively trading,” Walter Shaub, senior ethics fellow at the Project on Government Oversight, told On the Money. “Wait until we see where she puts the money … will she buy more stock and create another conflict of interest?” Likewise, skeptics aren’t satisfied by the fact the couple lost money on the chip stock purchases.

Meta Platforms Q2 Results Decline

Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) on Wednesday posted lower results in the second quarter. The company posted net income of $6.69 billion or $2.46 per share in the three-month period, down 36 percent from $10.4 billion or $3.61 per share in the same period last year.

Total revenue fell to $28.8 billion from $29.1 billion a year ago. On average, 40 analysts expected the company to post earnings of $2.61 per share on revenues of $28.9 billion in the second quarter.

Looking ahead, the company anticipates third quarter 2022 total revenue to be in the range of $26-28.5 billion. Meta Platforms said that the outlook reflects a continuation of the weak advertising demand environment experienced throughout the second quarter, which is being driven by broader macroeconomic uncertainty.

Separately, the company also announced that effective November 1, 2022, current Chief Financial Officer David Wehner will take on a new role as Meta's first Chief Strategy Officer, where he will oversee the company's strategy and corporate development. Honduras Extradites Alleged Drug Matriarch To The US

Honduras on Tuesday extradited Herlinda Bobadilla, a 61-year-old alleged gang leader arrested in a shootout that killed one of her sons, to the United States on drug charges. A US indictment alleges Bobadilla, also known as Chinda, and two of her sons led the "Los Montes" drug cartel -- one of the largest in Honduras. Mortgage rates in the US dropped for the first time in three weeks. The average for a 30-year loan slipped to 5.3% from 5.54% (see above) last week, Freddie Mac said Thursday in a statement. That’s a level last seen the week of July 7. Rates that have climbed from 3.11% at the end of last year are cooling the once-overheated US housing market. Pending sales of homes in June fell by the most since April 2020. PulteGroup Inc., a national builder based in Atlanta, reported earlier this week that cancellations of home orders have ticked up.

A little technical perspective on Ag trading-and keep in mind technicals mean very little in a rigged paper-based market but they do use them to trade the COMEX contracts which sets spot prices

Now the technical traders will have seen that this price action has pierced through the top of the Bollinger Bands-see cap #3 (a trading indicator) two days ago-it doesn't mean a lot in the grand scheme of things but those traders look for two major areas: the 200 Day Moving Avg (200DMA) and the 50 Day Moving Average (50DMA) both of which are above $20 (50 is $20.62 and the top end of the Bollinger band is $20.25 so the last few days has allowed that to occur-again not a bid deal but they watch for this stuff on these DMAs to decide whether to be long or short...the 200 DMA (which is the major place they start to make those decisions) is not even in play and won't be until $23.

Just something to look out for as the selling has been exhausted on that drop to just below $18 a few days ago

Apple reported its earnings for the third fiscal quarter of 2022 on Thursday, and like many of its peers in consumer electronics, the company barely eked out growth over the same quarter last year. Overall revenue was up just 2 percent year over year at $83 billion.

The company's services business, which includes everything from Apple Music to iCloud and AppleCare+, was the growth leader with 12 percent increased revenue compared to the same quarter last year. That's for a total of $19.6 billion.

But the company still earns most of its money from other categories, none of which grew as quickly. The iPhone earned $40.67 billion during the quarter—just 3 percent more than last year. And all three of the company's other categories were down against last year. The Mac fell 10 percent to $7.38 billion, the iPad was down 2 percent at $7.22 billion, and other products—including the Apple Watch, AirPods, and others—were down 8 percent to $8.08 billion. Of course, none of this came as a surprise to most investors, given inflation, global supply challenges, and worries about a coming recession. In fact, Apple slightly beat analysts' estimates going into the earnings report.

Apple CFO Luca Maestri described the current situation as "a challenging environment," and CEO Tim Cook noted that the company is seeing inflation impacting its cost structure. The company didn't offer specific guidance for the next quarter, but Cook said in an interview with CNBC that he expects things to pick up a little bit in the September quarter, "despite seeing some pockets of softness."

The company is expected to ship new iPhone and Apple Watch models later this year, and updated M2 Macs and iPads are also possibilities. There have been rumors Apple will introduce its newest product category—a mixed reality headset—by the end of this year, but some reports have indicated those plans may slip into 2023. In light of the economic climate, Apple has joined many other tech and consumer electronics companies in declaring that it expects to slow hiring and act conservatively in the coming months.

Taiwan Fires Warning Flares On Chinese Drone That Buzzed Airspace

At a moment of boiling tensions surrounding Taiwan, its military says it chased away a Chinese drone by firing warning shots as a UAV buzzed a heavily fortified island that has long been under Taiwanese control.

The Taiwanese Defense Ministry believes what was at first deemed an "unidentified drone" was possibly probing its Taiwan's defenses as it "glanced by" Dongyin island, which lies near the Chinese coast but has been in Taiwan's hands since 1949. "The Dongyin command fired flares at the drone to warn it away, the ministry said, without identifying it further," writes Reuters. "A senior official familiar with the security planning in the region told Reuters that it was a Chinese drone, likely one of the country's new CSC-005 drones." Though a relatively minor encounter, said to be the second such incident involving a Chinese drone this year, the engagement suggests the ease with which a small unplanned incident could trigger bigger escalation, even leading to a shooting war.

Considered the front line of Taiwan's defenses, Dongyin island is described as follows in Reuters: It is the northernmost territory Taiwan holds, sitting at the top end of the Taiwan Strait, a choke point through which at least part of any Chinese invading force would have to traverse. Military experts believe Dongyin's forces are equipped with Taiwan's self-made Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missile as well as Sky Bow II surface-to-air missiles.

In recent years Chinese PLA jets have flown into or near Taiwan's 'Air Defense Identification Zone' on an almost weekly basis, which Taipei sees as a threat. Taiwan typically scrambles fighters to warn off and 'mirror' PLA jets, however without any kind of firing incident. #Taiwan (🇹🇼) fired flares to warn away a drone that “glanced by” the airspace of Dongyin island, one of the Matsu islands.

This fresh encounter between Taiwan and PLA weaponry comes as the entirety of the democratic-run island of Taiwan is engaged in 'invasion preparedness' drills - an annual exercise - which has a civilian response as well as military components, including emergency alerts and evacuation simulations conducted in cities and towns.
