NASA’s chief of human spaceflight resigns on cusp of critical crew launch

The head of NASA’s human spaceflight programs has abruptly resigned, announcing his departure from the space agency two days before before he was to chair a crucial readiness review ahead of the launch of the first crewed U.S. space mission in nearly a decade.

Doug Loverro joined NASA in December after decades managing military space programs, and his tenure at NASA lasted just six months. He replaced Bill Gerstenmaier, who was removed from his post by NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine last July in a shakeup of the space agency’s human spaceflight efforts.

In a statement Tuesday, NASA said Loverro resigned from the agency effective Monday. NASA did not specify a reason for Loverro’s departure, which happened eight days before the first launch of U.S. astronauts from the Kennedy Space Center in nearly nine years.

Loverro was to chair the Flight Readiness Review Thursday for the mission of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft, which will carry astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken to the International Space Station on a test flight designated Demo-2, or DM-2.

Industry sources said Loverro had a disagreement with Bridenstine, but details were not confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon.

“Loverro hit the ground running this year and has made significant progress in his time at NASA,” Bridenstine said in a statement. “His leadership of HEO (Human Exploration and Operations) has moved us closer to accomplishing our goal of landing the first woman and the next man on the Moon in 2024.

“Loverro has dedicated more than four decades of his life in service to our country, and we thank him for his service and contributions to the agency,” Bridenstine said.

Steve Jurczyk, NASA’s associate administrator and and most senior career civil servant, will take Loverro’s place as chair of the Crew Dragon Demo-2 Flight Readiness Review, a NASA official said.

Loverro was also scheduled to participate in a press conference Thursday after the conclusion of the Flight Readiness Review. Bridenstine is expected to take media questions Wednesday at the arrival of Hurley and Behnken at Kennedy to prepare for the final week before their launch on top of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

In an all-hands letter to NASA employees, Loverro wrote that he is leaving the agency “because of his personal actions.”

He wrote that he “truly looked forward to living the next four-plus years with you as we returned Americans to the surface of the moon and prepared for the long journey beyond. But that is not to be.”

“Throughout my long government career of over four and a half decades I have always found it to be true that we are sometimes, as leaders, called on to take risks,” Loverro wrote in the letter, dated Tuesday. “Our mission is certainly not easy, nor for the faint of heart, and risk-taking is part of the job description.

“The risks we take, whether technical, political, or personal, all have potential consequences if we judge them incorrectly,” he wrote. “I took such a risk earlier in the year because I judged it necessary to fulfill our mission.

“Now, over the balance of time, it is clear that I made a mistake in that choice for which I alone must bear the consequences,” Loverro wrote. “And therefore, it is with a very, very heavy heart that I write to you today to let you know that I have resigned from NASA effective May 18th, 2020.”

In the letter, Loverro told employees that he is not leaving NASA because of any performance issues within the human spaceflight workforce.

“If anything, your performance and those plans make everything we have worked for over the past six months more attainable and more certain than ever before,” Loverro wrote. “My leaving is because of my personal actions, not anything we have accomplished together.

Bridenstine announced Loverro last October as the new associate administrator for NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate. Loverro officially joined NASA in December, overseeing a key time in the agency’s human spaceflight programs as NASA moved closer to launching astronauts on U.S. vehicles for the first time since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011.

UK bulk buys hydroxychloroquine as potential Covid-19 treatment

Hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug being taken by Donald Trump as an unproven protection against coronavirus, is being bought in bulk by the UK in case it does turn out to be an effective Covid-19 treatment.

Ministers are seeking 16m tablets in packets of up to 100 as part of a £35m contract put out to tender on Friday.

The drug is being tested by government scientists, health officials said. They are securing additional supplies so it can be distributed among the population if required.

The contract, which was uploaded to a government website on 15 May, is an “open opportunity” for pharmaceutical suppliers to supply more than 33m tablets of various drugs between June and next January.

Governor Abbott wants you to be monitored and tracked.

Abbott gave the go ahead for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to sign a $295 million, 27 month contract, with MTX Group late last week to establish a surveillance and contact tracing program for the ostensible reason of controlling the COVID-19 infections. MTX Group will develop a staff of 4000 employees in Texas, consisting of epidemiologists, case investigators and contact tracers, by the end of May.

MTX Group is a New York company based in Albany. It is managing contact tracing in New York. This contract is being paid for with funds from the federal government. Federal dollars mean federal control. It’s the golden rule. He who has the gold rules.

Abbott agreed to this contract with MTX Group without consulting the Texas Legislature. Abbott said that he and the DSHS have the authority to institute this program without approval of the Texas Legislature.

MTX Group will implement the surveillance and contact tracing program in Texas.

They will be tracking information on every child in public schools as well.

There will be some sort of "health app" that every citizen will be required to download on their phones. This will build a public registry for a future mandatory COVID-19 vaccination. Your movements and location will be monitored by the state by satellite.

Every place of business, restaurant, church or public venue that you visit will require you to have the health app with a QR code before you can enter. Your location will be recorded by satellite at all times.

If you were to test positive for COVID-19, then the government surveillance and contact tracing agency in your city or state would be notified by computer. The information on your phone would be accessed by the state computer system to determine where you have been over the past 7-10 days. The computer program has also been surveilling everyone else and will know who has come within 6 feet of your presence during that time period. Those individuals with whom you have been in contact will be contacted by a government contact tracer and be tested. Even if they test negative, they will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

If you tested positive and live in a home with your family and have only one bathroom, then you would be sent to a government run quarantine location.

If you have children, then Child Protective Services (CPS) would be involved. If your children could not be adequately separated from you while you quarantine at home, then they may be removed by Temporary Emergency Possession Order until you have completed your quarantine and test negative.

Those who are quarantined because they were in your presence within 6 feet, will be quarantined for 14 days. If during the quarantine, that person was to test positive, then everyone with whom they had come in contact in the previous 7-10 days would be visited by a contact tracer and also forced to quarantine themselves. It becomes a never-ending cycle.

Who would want to eat at a restaurant, or shop at a store, knowing that a satellite is tracking your every move and tracking everyone with whom you come within 6 feet of contacting? One day some government contact tracer may visit your home and tell you that you must quarantine yourself, because you came within 6 feet of someone at Home Depot that you didn’t even know, and who ended up with a COVID-19 infection. You can understand how businesses will suffer a loss of clientele in this situation.

New COVID-19 cases and deaths are falling across Texas, across the U.S. and around the world. COVID-19 is running out of steam. We sure don’t need contact tracing now. The government can only want contact tracing to be able to monitor and control you in the future.

The Coronavirus fraud was created by government health bureaucrats who used faulty projections to create irrational fear among the population, leading to mass hysteria and panic. This massive fraud was perpetrated on the public by the fake news media and politicians who acted like tin-pot dictators.

The government officials and media ran around like Chicken Little, crying out, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Unfortunately, many have bought into this deception.

Here are the facts. In Texas only 1 in 1000 people have had the Covid-19 infection. As of May 17, only 1336 deaths of Texans are attributable to COVID-19 out of 30,000,000 Texans. That is a death rate of 1 in 25,000 people. National Geographic states that the lifetime odds of you being struck and killed by lightening during your lifetime is 1 in 3000. If you live in Texas, then you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a lightning strike during your lifetime than die of COVID-19.

Let’s put the COVID-19 deaths in perspective. In 2019 approximately 180,000 Texans died of a host of diseases and events, heart disease, strokes, cancer, diabetes, pneumonia, liver disease, alcohol related diseases, suicide, opioid addiction, Alzheimer’s, and traffic accidents, among others. These account for 493 deaths per day. In Texas, there have been 1336 deaths attributable to COVID-19. That represents less than 1% of the annual deaths. Texas averaged 10 traffic deaths per day, totaling around 3,650 in 2019. Why in the world would Abbott want to destroy our economy over such a de minimis cause of death as this coronavirus?

There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence rate of COVID-19 and the fatality and death rates between the countries that locked down and those countries that did not, like Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

Abbott has destroyed our great Texas economy by unconstitutionally shutting down many small, so-called "non-essential" businesses and restaurants, and church services. Every business is essential to the owner, employees, and customers of that business. Two million Texans have lost their jobs and hundreds of thousands of business are bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy.

After destroying our economy, Abbott now wants to monitor and track every Texan for COVID-19. Once government starts monitoring your every movement, then what do they do with the information? It won’t stop with public health. It could require you to list your guns. Through this contact tracing program the government would gain access to a host of personal and private information.

You might say to yourself, "Well if that is the case, then I will get rid of my mobile phone." The government will mandate that you be tracked for the good of public health. They could mandate that you have a microchip placed in your body. To prove that you have a microchip implanted you could be tattooed on your right hand or forehead. Unless you have the microchip in your body, and a tattoo to prove it, then you would not be allowed in any business or restaurant.

Why would Abbott, a supposedly conservative Republican, want to implement an Orwellian, communist style plan of monitoring and tracking citizens like they have in China? My Dad taught me that when someone’s actions seem really out of the ordinary, there is always a money trail somewhere. I am not saying this about Abbott, but lobbyists get paid big bucks by corporations like the MTX Group to get government contracts. These lobbyists have ways to influence those who might have Abbott’s ears.

Johnson & Johnson to stop selling baby powder in US

Healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson is to stop selling its talc-based Johnson's Baby Powder in the US and Canada.

The firm faces many thousands of lawsuits from consumers who claim that its talc products caused their cancer. The move comes after years of litigation where Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay out billions of dollars in compensation.

The company has consistently defended the safety of its talc products.

Johnson & Johnson said it would wind down sales of the product, which makes up about 0.5% of its US consumer health business, in the coming months, but that retailers would continue to sell existing inventory. The firm faces more than 16,000 consumer lawsuits alleging that the company's talc products were contaminated with asbestos, a known carcinogen.

The firm said that demand for Johnson's Baby Powder had been declining in North America "due in large part to changes in consumer habits and fuelled by misinformation around the safety of the product". It said it had faced "a constant barrage" of lawyers advertising for clients to sue the firm. It said in October that its testing had found no asbestos in its Baby Powder after tests conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration discovered trace amounts.

The firm is appealing against a 2018 order to pay $4.7bn (£3.6bn) in damages to 22 women who alleged that its talc products caused them to develop ovarian cancer.

Ghislaine Maxwell can’t be questioned under oath about Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme because she is under criminal investigation, an attorney for the accused madam writes in new papers.

The argument by Maxwell’s attorney Laura Menninger is a rare acknowledgment of the risk facing the British socialite who is said to be in hiding.

Menninger asked a federal judge to freeze a lawsuit brought by alleged Epstein victim Annie Farmer due to the investigation by federal prosecutors in New York. Farmer claims that both Epstein and Maxwell sexually abused her at the multimillionaire sex offender’s New Mexico ranch. Farmer seeks damages from Maxwell and Epstein’s $634 million estate.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York has publicly and repeatedly announced its ‘ongoing’ criminal investigation into alleged Epstein ‘co-conspirators’ on the same topic as [Farmer] alleges in this case,” Menninger wrote in a letter last week.

In a shock to the rocket-and-spaceship industry, NASA's human spaceflight chief abruptly resigned on Monday.

The departure of Doug Loverro, a former member of the Department of Defense's Senior Executive Service, who took command of NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate on December 2, comes at a critical time for the US space agency.

On May 27, SpaceX is scheduled to launch its first passengers — NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley — on a roughly three-month mission to space called Demo-2. The test flight is designed to show NASA that SpaceX, the rocket company Elon Musk founded 18 years ago, can safely launch people into orbit aboard a Crew Dragon spaceship, dock with the International Space Station, and return the crew to Earth.

It's not national news or drastically important, but Sanford Dam has collapsed from the amount of rain we have gotten in the past 48 hours and people have had to evacuate from both Edenville and Sanford.

Edenville has the most people with 2524 people

Sanford only has 848 people

People are gonna lose their homes and what they don't pack up to water damage, please pray that they don't lose everything to the flooding.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has demanded that the federal government bail out his state, or he’ll have to slash funding for hospitals, medical staff, and other local services – whose budgets he’s already cut to the bone.

The governor took aim at the Trump administration’s funding priorities during his Covid-19 press conference on Tuesday, waxing dramatic about political “values” as he accused Washington of shafting state governments with emergency coronavirus bailout packages that favored big banks and megacorporations.

“Why was Washington so quick to fund the corporations and big businesses, but now they have to think about whether they want to fund state governments and local governments?” Cuomo demanded, reminding his audience that local governments in turn fund hospitals, police, schools, and other “essential” services.

If you don’t fund New York state government, you know what that means? That means I have to cut aid to Northwell [Hospitals]. To hospitals. To nurses, to doctors. It means I have to cut aid to local governments that fund police and firefighters. I have to [cut] funding to schools and teachers.

Cuomo already deferred a raise for tens of thousands of state employees last month, including healthcare workers in the state’s prisons and mental health facilities.

The governor slammed Washington’s failure to shovel more money into the states as “offensive,” insisting it flew in the face of the government messaging depicting frontline workers as “heroes of the day,” and implying Congress owed them – and him – a few billion favors. “We give the federal government about 30 billion dollars more every year!” Cuomo protested.

“I understand the large corporations are the ones that fund the political accounts of these officials, but let them remember that they get elected by the people,” he added, demanding Congress and the White House “show the same consideration for the workers that you show for the corporations.”

That line of attack was more than a little ironic for a politician whose detractors have nicknamed him “Governor One Percent” for his unswerving fealty to his deep-pocketed donors. Cuomo’s devotion is such that in last month’s state budget he chose to saddle New York City with an additional $200 million in Medicaid costs rather than adopt any of a possible 14 tax-the-rich measures that could have helped close a yawning budget gap. Many of those measures had upwards of 90 percent support from voters, but their target – the richest .01 percent of state residents – was effectively off-limits.

It’s impossible to keep track of all the norms Trump is petulantly stomping on as he runs for reelection amid the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression.

As the American death toll from COVID-19 has moved closer to 100,000, he has fired inspector general after inspector general, the only independent watchdogs inside the executive branch. His lawyers have argued before the Supreme Court that this president should essentially be immune from all prosecution and oversight, denying taxpayers the right to know whether he’s even a taxpayer. And @realdonaldtrump has gone into overdrive with his wild tweets and rhetoric, which he has to know could make his more unhinged supporters think he’s hoping they’ll get violent.

The Edenville Dam spillway underwent reconstruction in 2018. Summer of 2019 and 2020 would be reconstruction of the small hydroelectric plant.

Spillway is to the west side of M-30 as seen in the video clip last bread. The power house and gates are on the east side of M-30.

Google Street view along Michigan M-30 at the dam is dated July 2018. Gives a good perspective of the high water level of the dam and lack of freeboard. Saying what impact the prior reconstruction had would be speculation.

The Edenville Dam that collapsed had some kind of dispute and had lost its hydro license this year. They needed to make a better emergency plan (irony).

There's also some kind of ongoing property dispute around the lake and dam. It's privately owned but regulated by FERC. Their website has dam info and legal proceedings that were going on back in December/January/February.

EDENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — People living along two lakes and a river in mid-Michigan rushed to evacuate Tuesday after the breach of a dam following days of heavy flooding across parts of the Midwest.

Two schools were opened for evacuees in the Midland area, about 140 miles north of Detroit, after the breach of Edenville Dam, which holds back Wixom Lake.

Red Cross worker Tom Restgate, who had been helping residents of the area seek shelter from the threat of rising waters, said he received an alert over his cellphone that “the dam ... it breached.”

Residents in a span of several miles were urged to evacuate. Officials also were watching the Sanford Dam south of Edenville. The city of Midland, which includes the main plant of Dow Chemical, sits on the banks of the Tittabawassee River about 8 miles away from that dam.

More than 50 roads have been closed in the area. The evacuations in Michigan followed days of heavy rains in parts of the Midwest that also brought flooding to Chicago and other parts of Illinois, Ohio and other states.

“The water is very high,” Catherine Sias, who lives about a mile from the Edenville Dam, said before the breach. “Last night, emergency responders came door-to-door to make sure everybody got out. We have mild flooding every year, but this is unusual.”

Sias, 45, has five cats and two dogs and was about to check into a hotel that allowed pets when she learned it was probably safe for people not living in low-lying areas to return home.

“I’m on the high bank, about 20 feet up,” she said. “A lot of people are having a harder time. Most of them are going to be dealing with flooding in their homes.”

Some residents, such as Jon St. Croix, went to shelters set up in area schools.

“We were laying in bed when I heard sirens,” St. Croix told the Midland Daily News. “A fire truck was driving around, broadcasting that (we needed) to evacuate. It’s a scary thing — you’re sleeping and awake to sirens.”

St. Croix, 62, his wife and a next-door neighbor were among more than a dozen people sheltering in one school. Their home was not flooded, but St. Croix said he had seen flooding in the area.

Volunteers at the schools said about 120 vehicles were in the parking lots of a couple of schools and about 30 people had been staying on cots inside, according to WNEM-TV.

About a dozen people hunkered down overnight at a school in Sanford but had left by early Tuesday afternoon, said Tom Restgate, an American Red Cross safety officer.

The cots inside the school were spread out to observe social distancing recommendations to fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Restgate said.

Heavy rains also caused flooding in parts of northwestern Indiana, including Crown Point — the Lake County seat — where about seven inches fell over the weekend.

Floodwaters swelled quickly on Sunday when 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) of rain fell within 15 minutes, swamping streets and sending water into basements and homes, including Mayor David Uran’s residence.

Those waters receded Monday, but Uran and many other residents were continuing to clean up the watery mess on Tuesday, said Uran’s chief of staff, Greg Falkowski.

“He got between 2 and 3 feet in his basement, so that’s what he’s working on right now,” Falkowski said Tuesday afternoon.

Flood warnings in Michigan were issued following widespread rainfall of up to 4 inches (10.2 centimeters) since Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy runoff pushed rivers higher.

“A lot of the rainfall came and hit the Saginaw Valley over the last 48 hours,” meteorologist Andrew Arnold said Tuesday morning. “For the most part, the rain is over.”

More flooding was forecast for parts of the Tittabawassee River, which was at 26.5 feet (8.1 meters) Tuesday morning. It was expected to crest Wednesday morning at about 30 feet (9.1 meters). Flood stage is 24 feet (7.3 meters).

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) announced today that the company has licensed The Rockefeller University’s portfolio of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) against HIV, including the two clinical-stage agents 3BNC117 and 10-1074. These investigational agents have potential for use in HIV long-acting therapies for treatment and prevention, as well as cure strategies.

Under the agreement, Gilead acquires exclusive global licenses to develop and commercialize Rockefeller’s full portfolio of HIV bNAbs. Rockefeller will receive an upfront payment and is eligible to receive cumulative milestone payments, as well as royalties on net sales. Additionally, Rockefeller will retain rights to perform non-clinical and early-stage clinical research on the portfolio of HIV antibodies.

Trump Admin Sanctions Chinese Firm Aiding Iran’s Weapons Smuggling Network.

The Trump administration on Tuesday issued new sanctions on a Chinese firm that it says is providing critical services to Iran's Mahan Air, an airline that the United States has designated for terrorism due to its smuggling of weapons and terrorist fighters.

Sanctions will immediately be applied to Shanghai Saint Logistics Limited, a Chinese company that "provides general sales agent services" for Mahan, according to the State Department. The United States first listed Mahan Air as a "specially designated global terrorist" in 2011 due to its role in Tehran's shipment of weapons and soldiers across the Middle East. It was designated again in 2019 under weapons of mass destruction authority for allegedly shipping banned missile and nuclear infrastructure to Iran.

China is one of the few countries still doing business with the airline and it is likely the coronavirus first spread to Iran because of the daily flights between the two countries.

"The People's Republic of China is one of the rapidly dwindling number of countries that welcomes Mahan Air, which ferries weapons and terrorists around the world for the Islamic Republic of Iran," Secretary of State Mikeanon Pompeo said in a statement announcing the new sanctions. "Such cooperation has consequences."

Mahan also ships goods to the Maduro regime in Venezuela, which the United States views as illegitimate.

"It is equally troubling that Mahan Air appears to be carrying gold from Venezuela's vaults back to Iran, depriving the Venezuelan people of resources needed to rebuild their economy," Big Mikeanon Pompeo said.

Growing tomorrow’s Army space operations officers.

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama – In 2019, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Army Space Personnel Development Office proposed a pilot Assured Functional Area Transfer program to provide future Army officers the opportunity to become Functional Area-40 space operations officers after successful service within a basic branch.

The pilot group of 20 seniors, seven West Point cadets and 13 ROTC cadets, who were selected for the AFAT pilot began graduating last weekend.

“AFAT is essentially ‘branch detailing’ for a functional area,” said Gerald Pepin, ASPDO acting director. “It allows cadets with science, technological, engineering, mathematics and unique space-oriented degrees, such as space science and geospatial information sciences, the opportunity to become space operations officers following successful service within a basic branch. The program provides an opportunity for them to lock in a career in Army space operations.”

According to Col. William Starr, commandant, Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence, they add AFAT candidates to the FA-40 roster, send them space operations updates, and provide them access to the ASPDO knowledge management site and online space forum.

“Identifying college seniors with space aptitude and staying connected with them throughout their first four years in the Army, will ensure quality candidates attend and graduate from SMDCoE as qualified FA-40s,” Starr said.

Pepin added that now that the seniors have graduated, they will be invited to attend Army Space Cadre Basic Courses held near their duty stations, and ASPDO will budget for their paid attendance in the future.

“We will also sponsor them for and prompt them to begin their top secret clearance process as they near the window for transfer to the FA-40 career field so they possess a clearance prior to transfer,” he said.

Lt. Gen. James Dickinson, deputy commander, U.S. Space Command, virtually commissioned one of these cadets, Darien Cupit, a computer science major who will begin his Army career in military intelligence, during Colorado State University’s ceremony.

Dickinson, the Army’s senior member of USSPACECOM, fully understands the roles and responsibilities of FA-40s and the crucial contributions they make to ground combat.

“Over the past 20 years, the Army has emerged as the largest user of space capabilities in the Department of Defense and currently leverages space capabilities to increase combat power from the strategic to the tactical level,” he said. “Establishing a pipeline that allows a guaranteed path to becoming an Army space operations officer is absolutely the right thing to do, and I applaud ASPDO’s initiative in making it happen.”

Using talent-based branching, ASPDO identified cadets with functional area-specific talents, specifically space-related STEM degrees. Candidates for AFAT were then personally interviewed by a panel consisting of senior FA-40s and civilian space professionals. This process helped ensure selected candidates were a good fit for the career field, and the career field was a good fit for them.

Now commissioned, these AFAT pilot officers serve in a basic branch and are ensured the ability to transfer to the FA-40 branch after 36-48 months of service.

In February 2020, ASPDO briefed Dr. Casey Wardynski, the assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs; representatives from the Army G-1; and the Army’s Talent Management Task Force on the AFAT pilot program. ASPDO explained how the program allows the Army to identify cadets to become FA-40s earlier than the Voluntary Transfer Incentive Program currently allows.

Wardynski approved continuing the pilot program for FA-40, and the Talent Management Task Force is currently working to allow at least six other Functional Areas to participate.

RI Democrat Governor Unveils New "Crush COVID" App Complete With GPS Location Tracker

Gov. Gina Raimondo has unveiled the state's new smart phone app, "Crush Covid RI."

“I love the title because we are crushing COVID,” Raimondo said Tuesday during her daily coronavirus press briefing, adding that Rhode Island is one of the first states to roll out “a one-stop app of this kind.”

The app’s key feature and potentially controversial feature includes a GPS "Location Diary.” If you agree to sign up for it, the app keeps track of where you’ve been for up to 20 days.

Raimondo said the tool will greatly help the state with contact tracing to find where people who test positive have been.

But she said it is voluntary and so is allowing the tracker.

“It’s only on your phone, and it’s only if you enable it,” she said.

Raimondo defended against privacy concerns, saying the app doesn’t ask for anyone’s name or personal information.

She also said the tracking data only goes to the health department if you agree to it after testing positive.

“I can’t force you to do it,” Raimondo said. “I’m not going to try to force you to do it. It’s completely your choice.”

Still, she said she recommends it.

“It’s in the best interest of Rhode Island’s health care and economy if people use it,” Raimondo said. “Learn about it. I’m going to ask you to try. I’m going to ask you to be open minded.”

The app also has a "Symptom Checker" that asks how people are feeling, as well as a link to "Get Tested."

By collecting data by zip code, Raimondo said the state can try to find virus hot spots.

“It only works if everybody’s using it so we can see where everybody is because the name of the game is containing the virus,” Raimondo said.

Other options on the app include, "Get Help," which gives information about things like food delivery, places to stay, behavioral help, insurance questions, and employment questions.

There’s also “Get Informed,” which links to items such as case data and new business rules, and “Get Involved," which links to ways to volunteer or donate.

The system does not yet have the capability to alert someone if they have potentially been exposed to COVID through a contact.

Meanwhile, the Rhode Island Department of Health on Tuesday reported 26 new coronavirus-related deaths, as well as 134 more positive cases.

Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, who is the director of the health department, said 24 of them from long term care facilities. She added that 14 of the deaths occurred Monday, while the others happened on previous days.

“We continue to work aggressively and closely with our congregant care settings,” she Alexander-Scott said.

The total of fatalities across the state is now 532, with 12,951 cases.

She claimed to be present when Barack Obama discussed the Michael Flynn intercept but, according to Sally Yates, who was interviewed by the FBI, only Yates, Jim Comey and Barack Obama were present. This new revelation–made possible by the declassification of the Susan Rice email written in the last moments of the Obama Administration–actually bolsters Michael Flynn’s contention that he was the victim of a political hit job designed to take out Donald Trump.

Let me remind you of the essential facts that you must have in mind in order to understand Rice’s clumsy attempt to fabricate an excuse for Obama’s inexcusable spying on Donald Trump, his family and his team.

December 29, 2016: Michael Flynn, who was vacationing in the Dominican Republic, returned Russian Ambassador Kislyak’s phone call at the behest of the Trump Transition team back in Mar-a-Lago and requested that Russia not escalate the situation and only respond to the U.S. Sanctions in a reciprocal manner (see here).

January 3, 2017: Deputy FBI Director Andy McCabe tells Department of Justice official, Mary McCord, that the FBI had been planning to close the Flynn investigation but “discovered” his phone calls with the Russian Ambassador. McCabe described the content to the calls (Exhibit 3, page 2).

January 4, 2017: The FBI Agent leading the investigation of the General Flynn sends Peter Strzok the memo recommending the case be close because there was no evidence against the General. (Exhibit 1) Peter Strzok tells the Agent that the “7th Floor” is interested.

January 5, 2017: Barack Obama tells Acting Attorney General Sally Yates in the presence of Jim Comey that he had learned about Flynn’s conversation with the Russian Ambassador on sanctions. (Exhibit 4)

President Barack Obama’s Treasury Department regularly surveilled retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn’s financial records and transactions beginning in December 2015 and well into 2017, before, during and after when he served at the White House as President Donald Trump’s National Security Director, a former senior Treasury Department official, and veteran of the intelligence community, told the Star Newspapers.

“I started seeing things that were not correct, so I did my own little investigation, because I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was correct” she said. “You never want to draw attention to something if there is not anything there.”

The whistleblower said she only saw metadata, that is names and dates when the general’s financial records were accessed. “I never saw what they saw.”

By March 2016, the whistleblower said she and a colleague, who was detailed to Treasury from the intelligence community, became convinced that the surveillance of Flynn was not tied to legitimate criminal or national security concerns, but was straight-up political surveillance among other illegal activity occurring at Treasury.

“When I showed it to her, what she said, ‘Oh, sh%t!’ and I knew right then and there that I was right – this was some shady stuff,” the whistleblower said.

“It wasn’t just him,” the whistleblower said. “They were targeting other U.S. citizens, as well.”

Only two names are listed in the whistleblower’s official paperwork, so the others must remain sealed, she said. The second name is Paul J. Manafort Jr., the one-time chairman of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

The other names include: Members of Congress, the most senior staffers on the 2016 Trump campaign and members of Trump’s family, she said.

“Another thing they would do is take targeted names from a certain database – I cannot name, but you can guess – and they were going over to an unclassified database and they were running those names in the unclassified database,” she said.

The Pacific Fleet Submarine Force took the unusual step this month of announcing that all of its forward-deployed subs were simultaneously conducting "contingency response operations " at sea in the Western Pacific-downplaying the notion that Navyforces have been hampered by COVID-19.

The sub force said the missions were mounted in support of the Pentagon's "free and open Indo-Pacific " policy aimed at countering China's expansionism in the South China Sea.

At least seven submarines, and likely moreincluding all four Guam-based attack submarines, the San Diego-based USS Alexandria and multiple Hawaii-based vesselsare part of the effort.

The action also highlights the Pentagon's desire to be flexible and unpredictable in "great power " competition with China and Russia.

"Our operations are a demonstration of our willingness to defend our interests and freedoms under international law, " Rear Adm. Blake Converse, Pacific sub force commander, who is based at Pearl Harbor, said in a May 8 release.

Attack submarines maintain an outsize stealth capability to sink ships with torpedoes, fire Tomahawk cruise missiles and conduct covert surveillance while keeping adversaries guessing their location.

Urging residents to evacuate and warning that downtown Midland could be under 9 feet of water by Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Midland County after the Edenville and Sanford dams breached.

Speaking during a press conference late Tuesday, Whitmer said parts of the city of Midland, the village of Sanford, Edenville Township and Dow Chemical had been or were being evacuated. She said officials were working to evacuate residents in Tittabawassee, Thomas and Saginaw townships.

Parts of Midland Township, Lincoln Township and Homer Township had also been evacuated, according to alerts on Midland County's emergency management system, with tens of thousands of people potentially affected by flooding along the Tittabawassee River with a flood warning in effect through Wednesday morning.

2/ first leak is 3 Dec 2015 (0:00 to 3:22) and is Kerry, then Sec of State talking to Poroshenko (President) on eve of Biden trip to Ukraine (which is fairly well documented). Kerry's stepson's friend (and Kerry protege) Devon Archer was also Burisma director, joining in Apr 2015

3/ about 3 weeks before Hunter Biden joined Burisma.

Kerry had arrived in Ukraine on Mar 4, 2014, less than 2 weeks after US regime change coup in Ukraine. Like Biden later on, Kerry arrived promising $1 billion in aid.

4/ Shokin was retired prior to regime change. He was called out of retirement by incoming President Poroshenko in summer 2014 as a Deputy Prosecutor General as part of Poroshenko's promise to clean up corruption.

5/ Shokin was appointed Prosecutor General in Feb 2015, after a controversy about alleged mishandling of a case in London UK in which funds belonging to Burisma owner Zlochevsky, which had been frozen by UK fraud prosecutor, had been released. A complicated sub-story.

6/ also in Feb 2015, David Sakvarelidze, an out-of-office Georgian official and Biden hanger-on who was allied with Mikheil Saakashvili, former Georgian president, another Biden hanger-on, was installed as a Deputy Prosecutor General. Shokin later got to hate Sakvaelidze.

7/ western countries who were financing Ukraine required that they create several new anti-corruption organizations, independent of Prosecutor General: a) an anti-corruption investigation office (NABU), which Shokin helped set up in summer 2015. Its first director, Artem Sytnyk,

8/ was young and soon allied with Sakverildze in intrigues against Shokin; b) the Specialized Anti-Corruption Office (for prosecution) was set up through competition. Its first director, Kholodnitsky, was announced in Nov 2015. c) An inspector general office was established

9/ in 2015 as well, reporting directly to Sakverildze, independent of Shokin.

Despite Shokin's role in hiring the young prosecutors and overall progress in establishing anti-corruption institutions, there were persistent demands from NGOs in 2015 to remove Shokin

10/ but, with the appointment of Kholodnitsky on Nov 30, 2015, US ambassador Pyatt pronounced himself pleased at the "very big day" and "historic opportunity" and subsequently wrote very satisfied 2015 annual review of anti-corruption effort.

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 19, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – President Trump has stated that a future coronavirus vaccine will be voluntary.   

On Friday, the president introduced “Operation Warp Speed,” an ambitious Manhattan Project-style initiative to fast-track the development and distribution of a coronavirus vaccine by January 2021, tapping experts and resources in science, medicine, the military, and the private sector. 

Experts have warned that the plan raises serious ethical and safety questions which are of grave importance not only to pro-life citizens, but to everyone.  

However, President Trump did allay concerns about a mandatory vaccine on Friday, saying that the new vaccine would be for those “who want to get it,” adding, “Not everyone is going to want to get it.”

After he had previously introduced the idea of mobilizing the military to help deploy the new vaccine, some were concerned that this hinted that the drug would be forcibly administered. One website asked, “what will you do when they come to your door, and tell you it’s mandatory?”

Anxiety about possible medical strong-arming by the military easily piggy-backed on top of wide speculation that legislation introduced in Congress earlier this month, known as the TRACE Act – the “COVID-19 Testing, Reaching, And Contacting Everyone Act” –  would result in massive assaults by government agents against the constitutional rights of Americans.

Memes quickly cropped up on social media alleging that government officials could enter homes to forcibly test individuals and remove those who test positive – including children – and place them in government-sanctioned quarantine centers.  

Heavy-handed measures put in place by many governors and mayors hoping to stem the spread of the coronavirus by instituting lockdowns and using police to arrest citizens who engage in what are normally benign daily activities have certainly given cause to Americans to be on high alert.  

Apprehension about the possible curtailing of basic freedoms in response to the pandemic is well founded: Some cities have encouraged residents to snitch on their neighbors suspected of skirting lockdown orders. Citizens across the country have witnessed lone surfers and joggers, moms taking their kids to playgrounds, Christians sitting in their cars in church parking lots, and peaceful pro-life abortion protesters being ticketed or arrested and hauled off by police, despite practicing common sense physical distancing.

Regardless of the President’s assurances, the public remains gravely concerned. In just one week, nearly 440,000 people have signed a LifeSiteNews petition addressed to world leaders opposing a mandatory coronavirus vaccination. 

And while none of the experts LifeSiteNews has spoken to in recent days have expressed concern about forced vaccinations for U.S. citizens, there is still cause for concern in some jurisdictions, such as Canada.

May 13 House Rules Committee debated standing order to amend rules for proxy voting

No Sergeant At Arms report detailing members status as required by House Rule XX, only "notification" to the Speaker

May 15 H.Res. 967 House voted on proxy period May 19-July 21 – vote was by proxy

May 15 H.Res. 965 House voted on proxy voting method – vote was by proxy and before May 19

May 15 H.R. 6800 House voted on HEROES Act – vote was by proxy before the 24 hr period and before the May 19 effective date, so existing House Rules XX for quorum and voting still applied.

Erik Prince, founder of private military contractor Blackwater and an adviser to Donald Trump, is suing The Intercept over an article published in April that accused him of attempting to offer military services to a Russian military contractor connected to the Russian government.

The April 13 article, called “Erik Prince Offered Lethal Services to Sanctioned Russian Mercenary Firm Wagner,” accuses Prince of offering services to Wagner Group for operations conducted in Libya and Mozambique. The article states that “Any business relationship between Prince and Wagner would, in effect, make the influential Trump administration adviser a subcontractor to the Russian military.”

The article says Wagner had no interest in any such relationship, and Prince denied the accusation through his representative at the time the article was published.

In his lawsuit, filed May 19 in the US District court of Wyoming, Prince he had “no choice but to defend himself” because The Intercept accused him “of being a criminal and a traitor based on dishonest and biased anonymous sources that it made no effort to corroborate.”

The suit says The Intercept “acted with actual malice” by publishing the report, and criticized the site for publishing the story despite not having any witness on the record. The suit also accuses The Intercept of knowingly publishing false statements.

Sullivan broke precedent or worse in not dismissing Flynn.

Maybe he did it to divert attention from all the bad things happening, and maybe he's just lying. This president doesn't tell the truth. He may be taking this, he may not.
