One of the ways to distinguish truth from deception in contemporary “science” is to track what gets removed. For example, David tells me, there was apparently an English abstract online at PubMed out of China that rendered the entire COVID testing industrial complex baseless and absurd.

“There was a famous Chinese paper that estimated that if you’re testing asymptomatic people, up to 80% of positives could be false positive. That was kind of shocking, so shocking that PubMed had to withdraw the abstract even though the Chinese paper appears to still be published and available. I actually have a translation with a friend. I translated it into English and it’s a really, standard calculation of what they call positive predictive value. The abstract basically said that in asymptomatic populations, the chance of a positive coronavirus test being a true positive is only about 20%. 80% will be false positive.”

“Doesn’t that mean the test means nothing?” I asked.

“The Chinese analysis was a mathematical analysis, a standard, the standard analysis that’s been done a million times before. There’s no reason to withdraw the paper for any reason. It’s just that they did the standard analysis and said, in some populations, like they estimated 1% of people are actually infected in the population. You could have 80% false positive. But we have no way to verify that because we haven’t yet purified the virus. And I don’t think we ever will.”

Dave Rasnick has had exchanges with David Crowe about this, and concurs, “To my knowledge, they have not yet purified this virus.”

In a previous interview I did with him a few weeks ago, he said this, about PCR tests and the fallacies of thinking less is more, or smaller is better, or more “sensitive” means more accurate:

“It’s like fingerprints. With PCR you’re only looking at a small number of nucleotide. There are parts that are common to almost all fingerprints, and it’s those generic parts in a Corona virus that the PCR test picks up. They can have partial loops but if you only took a few little samples of fingerprints you are going to come up with a lot of segments of RNA that we are not sure have anything to do with corona virus. They will still show up in PCR. You can get down to the levels where its biologically irrelevant and then amplify it a trillion-fold.”

“The primers are what you know. We already know the strings of RNA for the Corona family, the regions that are stable. The Chinese decided that there was a region in those stable areas that was unique to their Corona virus. You do PCR to see if that is true. If it is truly unique it would work. But they’re using the SARS test because they don’t really have one for the new virus.”

“SARS isn’t the virus that stopped the world,” I offer.

“That’s right.”

“PCR for diagnosis is a big problem,” he continues. “When you have to amplify it these huge numbers of time, it’s going to generate massive amounts of false positives. Again, I’m skeptical that a PCR test is ever true.”

Crowe described a case in the literature of a woman who had been in contact with a suspect case of Corona (in Wuhan) they believed was the index case. “She was important to the supposed chain of infection because of this. They tested her 18 times, different parts of the body, like nose, throat—different PCR tests. 18 different tests. And she tested negative every time. And then they—because of her epidemiological connection with the other cases, they said: “We consider her infected. So, they had 18 negative tests and they said she was infected.”

“Now why was she important? Well there was only one other person who could have theoretically transmitted the virus if the original patient, outside the family was who they thought it was. But because three out of the four, tested positive, then they were, they were all considered infected and out of the same paper.

Another interesting thing is that they did a lot of tests. The first person in the list of people tested, he was positive on three out of 11 tests. They could test you 20 times and if you test positive once, then you’re infected. So, a positive test is meaningful. A negative test. It’s like, eh. Not so much.”

“I just want to identify who sponsored that simulation conference, 6 weeks before the first news broke out of Wuhan,” I interjected. “It was the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, Johns Hopkins Center For Health Security, and the World Economic Forum. Incidentally, all the stats, projections and modeling you see in the media are coming out of Johns Hopkins.”

He doesn’t have to think, he just does the steps that he’s been taught through the, the aircraft simulator and he successfully lands the airplane with one engine. So, a pandemic simulator is just like that. You sit down at the computer, you see the virus going around the world, um, and you say, okay, so what we need to do is we need to dress everybody in protective clothing.”

“We need to quarantine everybody who’s positive. Next step. We need to do social isolation. It’s a mathematical model. And at the end you always win, right? So, in the end, the good guys win, and the pandemic is defeated. But there’s, there’s never been like an actual real pandemic since they built this machine. So, there’s this huge machine, it’s got a red button on it and it’s like if you ever detect a pandemic starting, you press the red button. We don’t know exactly what happened, but I think the Chinese government was embarrassed cause they were being accused of covering up a pandemic. They said, okay, you know, we want Western approval for our medical system so we’re going to press the goddamn red button. Or they did. And then everything followed from that. The problem is that the simulation was never based on reality.”

In another part of our conversation, he said something unforgettable:

“So, we’ve essentially been taken over by the medical Taliban, if you like.”

I pressed him one last time:

“David, in conclusion, finish this sentence: “The PCR test for Corona is as good as…”

His reply made me laugh. I didn’t know I still could laugh.

“It’s as good as that Scientology test that detects your personality and then tells you need to give all your money to Scientology. “

Coca-Cola makes Dasani at the company’s Detroit plant by purchasing, treating and bottling municipal water before selling it at a significant mark-up to consumers. Pepsi bottles its Aquafina water brand in Detroit the same way.

The business model is hugely profitable. The cost to buy that municipal water is exceedingly low – and once bottled, the mark-up can be about 133 times greater, a Consumer Reports analysis of company water billing and usage records found.

But among the products, like toilet paper or hand sanitizer, that Americans are panic-buying, bottled water is unusual: there is no shortage of safe drinking water, and health officials have tried to assure people that public water supplies are not contaminated by the coronavirus. Hoarding bottled water simply isn’t necessary for most people.

What’s more, most bottled water sold in the US comes from the same municipal sources that supply tap water – a fact probably unknown to most consumers. But what’s good for businesses isn’t necessarily good for consumers, according to CR’s review, which included the examination of hundreds of pages of billing and other records obtained through public records requests, and interviews with environmental law experts, industry consultants, residents of Detroit and consumer advocates.

For starters, bottlers and consumers aren’t always treated as equals by water utilities, CR found. In Detroit, whose policy before the coronavirus crisis called for shutting off water to residents if they fall $150 behind in their water bills, 2,800 homes were estimated to be without running water at the start of the pandemic.

Now it's official. Now, it's Facebook official. The social network said a federal court on Thursday officially approved a settlement Facebook reached with the US Federal Trade Commission last July following a lengthy investigation into the company's privacy mishaps. "This agreement has already brought fundamental changes to our company and advances in how we protect people's privacy beyond anything we've done before," Michel Protti, Facebook's chief privacy officer for product, said in a company blog post. "Most of all, it brings a new level of accountability and ensures that privacy is everyone's responsibility at Facebook." The settlement was reached last year after the the FTC looked into whether Facebook should have done more to prevent Cambridge Analytica, a now-defunct consultancy that worked on President Donald Trump's campaign, from siphoning off the data of up to 87 million users. The agency was concerned that Facebook's failure to safeguard that data violated an earlier agreement the social network made to protect user privacy.

As part of the settlement, Facebook agreed to create an independent privacy committee, CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be required to certify the company's behavior and the social network must build more privacy protections into its platforms. Facebook was also fined $5 billion, a penalty the FTC called "unprecedented."

The FTC said it was pleased with the court's decision, adding that the $5 billion settlement is the largest monetary penalty obtained by the US on behalf of the FTC. "At the same time, the Court also highlights that the conduct relief included in this settlement will require Facebook 'to consider privacy at every stage of its operations and provide substantially more transparency and accountability for its executives' privacy-related decisions,'" said FTC Chairman Joe Simons in a statement.

There's something to what you're saying anon.

I used to use all those products and I used to get the flue all the time (I was sick 6 mo's outta the yr).

Ten years ago, I threw out everything in my house that had chemicals that I didn't recognize in the ingredients or that had GMO products. Haven't had the flu since then!!!! And all my other symptoms disappeared!

Q's post re children crawling on floors etc, what we wipe our counters with etc, what we clean our clothes and towels in then rub on our bodies and faces and hands etc., etc, etc.

The U.S. Oil Fund has again rolled forward some oil futures positions in its portfolio, for the first time revealing that it had done so after orders from the CME Group.

The United States Commodity Funds LLC, which runs the USO, said in a regulatory filing that it received letters from the exchange on behalf of the NYMEX market regulation department on April 16 and on April 23, ordering them not to “exceed accountability levels” in the crude oil futures contract for June 2020 in excess of 10,000 contracts.

An April 16 letter from CME said USCF, USO and related public funds could not assume a position in the June 2020 light crude oil futures contract that was in excess of the established position limit of 150,000 long futures contracts, according to the filing. Later, on April 23, CME ordered the funds not to exceed 15,000 long futures contracts for June, USCF said. For July 2020, the limit is 78,000 long futures contracts while for August it’s 50,000 and for September 35,000.

As U.S. regulators consider reining in excessive energy speculation, the two major U.S. futures exchanges have squared off over whether authorities should impose a blanket cap on positions traders hold on one exchange.

The smaller but faster-growing IntercontinentalExchange ICE, 0.00% wants the regulator to set a market-wide cap. The older and bigger CME Group Inc. CME, 0.00%, which owns the New York Mercantile Exchange, wants individual exchanges to set caps based on the size of the exchange.

The outcome of the regulatory decision, expected by year-end, could tilt the intensely competitive playing field for energy futures trading, extending a long-running rivalry between CME's Nymex and ICE.

Quarterly results from both, expected this week and next, will likely show active trading of crude oil and other energy contracts has been supporting daily volumes while other products have lost ground.

"They are competitors, so it makes sense that there is commercial dispute," said Jamie Selway, an analyst at White Cap Trading. "If the exchanges can't work together, the CFTC will step in and resolve this."

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is planning to set limits on the number of positions traders can take in futures markets, a strategy designed to moderate steep run-ups in prices that hurt consumers of energy.

JUST IN: Navy recommends reinstating fired captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt

The Navy has recommended reinstating Capt. Brett Crozier as commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, according to The New York Times.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday and acting Navy Secretary James McPherson made the recommendation to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday when briefing him about the results of the investigation into the coronavirus outbreak aboard the aircraft carrier, according to the Times.

Esper asked for more time to consider whether to reinstate Crozier, the Times added.

Crozier was removed from his position as the commander of the Roosevelt after a letter he wrote pleading for help with a coronavirus outbreak aboard leaked to the press.

Earlier, the Pentagon had said Esper would be “generally inclined” to support the Navy’s recommendation.

“He's going into this with an open mind, and he is generally inclined to support Navy leadership in their decisions,” chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman told reporters at a briefing before Esper was given the recommendation.

“But he will go into it with an open mind, and we will, once he's briefed, we will see where that takes us.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who faced backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, on Friday extended the order until May 15 but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize.

"But it depends on you," Whitmer, a Democrat, said during her daily briefing. "If we continue to see our numbers decline, we can responsibly consider additional steps we can take. If we see an increase, we may have to be nimble enough to go backward, on occasion."

The new order, Whitmer said, eases those restrictions. It allows in-state travel, motor boating and golfing, but golf carts cannot be used.

"While it's understandable to be lured by the phenomenal beauty of this great state and hit the road, we know that our rural hospitals are not equipped to meet an influx of people who may bring or spread the virus," Whitmer said, urging residents to continue to follow social distancing rules.

Big-box retailers no longer have to close off garden centers and areas dedicated to selling carpeting, flooring, furniture, garden centers, plant nurseries or paint. Landscapers, lawn-service companies, plant nurseries, and bike repair shops can also resume operating, but all are subject to social distancing rules.

The order also allows stores selling non-essential items to reopen, but only using curbside pickup and delivery.

Whitmer also said that people are now required to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces, such as grocery stores. Employers must also provide non-medical grade masks to their in-person employees. She asked the public to use cloth face coverings and reserve medical-grade masks for health care workers.

"The overarching message today is still the same, we all need to do our part, and staying home is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19," she said.

One of the biggest global players in artificial intelligence (AI) is Google and their high-tech Brain division has been pushing the envelope for years.

Now scientists working for their AutoML project have a new paper in which they claim to be developing algorithms that can evolve on their own without human input. Even more stunning is their claim that they can induce “mutations” into new generations of algorithms, which mimics principles of Darwinian evolution, namely “survival of the fittest.”

The team started with one of the most basic ideas in modern AI: machine learning. Machine learning tools allow us to use algorithms to search through massive troves of data and quickly identify patterns. But the traditional problem with this method is the element of human bias.

Iran Reveals Plan to Strike ‘400 American Targets’

Iranian military leaders on Friday said the country had drafted plans to strike "400 American targets" in response to further military action by the United States.

After Iran launched missiles at Iraq's Ain al-Asad base in January, where more than 1,000 U.S. and coalition soldiers are stationed, it anticipated retaliatory attacks by the Trump administration, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force, told the country's state-controlled press.

"The day we attacked on Ain al-Asad, we thought the U.S. forces would respond after 20 minutes, so we were ready to attack 400 American targets," Hajizadeh disclosed, though he did not provide detailed information about the sites in question.

"Our plan was to attack 400 U.S. targets if they responded," he said.

The revelation of Iran's plans to retaliate against U.S. military action comes as Iran continues to expand its military, this week launching a space satellite that U.S. officials say is a cover for nuclear weapons advancement.

Iran's attack on U.S. forces in Iraq came in reaction to the killing of top general Qassem Soleimani. Iranian-backed terror forces in Iraq have continued their assaults on U.S. positions in the ensuing months. While tensions have decreased since that time, President Donald Trump vowed this week to destroy any Iranian vessel that harasses American ships traveling in the Persian Gulf region.

Iran's military expansion continues to pose great risk to the United States, according to Trump administration officials, who told the Washington Free Beacon earlier this week that Tehran's recent launch of a military satellite is likely a cover for expanded ballistic missile work, weapons that are typically used to carry nuclear payloads.

"Iran's space program is clearly a cover for its intercontinental ballistic missile aspirations," Brian Hook, the administration's special representative for Iran, told the Free Beacon this week. "Any claims that Iran's space program is peaceful are pure propaganda."

Iran's ballistic missile work is a top concern for the Trump administration as it works to extend an international ban on such efforts. Later this year, Iran will be permitted to purchase missile technology if the United Nations does not renew a ban on its program.

While the United States opposes the lifting of this ban—which is set to expire under the terms of the landmark nuclear deal—countries such as Russia and China could veto these efforts, setting up a showdown in the coming months.

Truck driver charged with bringing nearly $2 million in cocaine to south Texas

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A Michigan man was charged in federal court Friday for money laundering and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

This case is being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) McAllen Office with assistance from the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Edgardo Serrano, 51, from New Boston, Michigan was charged April 24, 2020 by U.S. District Judge Ignacio Torteva III.

According to court documents, HSI filed the criminal complaint April 18, against Serrano. It alleges that on April 17, HSI and DEA had searched a mechanics shop in Hidalgo, Texas, which resulted in the discovery of $1.7 million hidden in a commercial tractor. The investigation revealed Serrano had been driving the vehicle, according to the charges. The complaint further alleges Serrano was in the Rio Grande Valley to pick up a load of carrots, but it appeared to be a cover for what was a shipment of cocaine destined for Florida. The hidden cash was allegedly the proceeds of the illegal narcotics sales in Florida.

If convicted, Serrano faces up to life in federal prison and a possible $10 million fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Betancourt, Southern District of Texas is prosecuting the case.

A criminal complaint is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence and a defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.

28 Million Mail-In Ballots Went Missing in Last Four Elections

Between 2012 and 2018, 28.3 million mail-in ballots remain unaccounted for, according to data from the federal Election Assistance Commission. The missing ballots amount to nearly one in five of all absentee ballots and ballots mailed to voters residing in states that do elections exclusively by mail. States and local authorities simply have no idea what happened to these ballots since they were mailed – and the figure of 28 million missing ballots is likely even higher because some areas in the country, notably Chicago, did not respond to the federal agency’s survey questions. This figure does not include ballots that were spoiled, undeliverable, or came back for any reason. Although there is no evidence that the millions of missing ballots were used fraudulently, the Public Interest Legal Foundation, which compiled the public data provided from the Election Assistance Commission, says that the sheer volume of them raises serious doubts about election security. These questions are particularly relevant as the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing states across the country to rapidly expand vote-by-mail operations in an election year. Democratic Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Ron Wyden have proposed the Natural Disaster and Emergency Ballot Act of 2020, a bill that would allow every eligible voter the opportunity to vote by mail, regardless of state laws governing mail-in ballots.

A significant increase in mail-in voting this fall could greatly incentivize “ballot harvesting,” where third parties collect mail-in ballots on behalf of voters and deliver them to election officials. There’s long been a consensus that such a practice incentivizes fraud, and ballot harvesting is illegal in most of the country. Public debate over the issue has intensified in recent years after a GOP operative in North Carolina was indicted for crimes related to ballot harvesting in 2018. That same election cycle California legalized ballot harvesting, and observers say the practice played a key role in ousting several Republican congressmen in Orange County in 2018, a longstanding GOP stronghold in a state that has become very liberal in recent decades. The fact that millions of unused mail-in ballots are floating around in every election cycle “is not a secret type data here – it's sitting there on the Internet, and you're paying for the server cost,” notes Logan Churchwell, a spokesman for PILF. “So what do people that really focus on the election process do about that? They go into ballot harvesting. If there's so many ballots out there in the wind unaccounted for by election officials, surely some manpower could be dedicated to go bring them in. And that's another part of the system where you have weaknesses and risk.”

To illustrate the risk, Churchwell notes that in 2016 Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by garnering over 2.8 million more votes than Donald Trump. But nearly 6 million unaccounted mail-in ballots were never counted in 2016, more than twice her margin in the popular vote. The potential to affect elections by chasing down unused mail-in ballots and make sure they get counted – using methods that may or may not be legal – is great. There’s little doubt that as the number of mail-in ballots increases, so does fraud. A 2012 report in The New York Times noted that voter fraud involving mail-in ballots “is vastly more prevalent than the in-person voting fraud that has attracted far more attention, election administrators say. In Florida, absentee-ballot scandals seem to arrive like clockwork around election time.” According to a Wall Street Journal report on voter exploitation in Hispanic communities in Texas, mail-in ballots have “spawned a mini-industry of consultants who get out the absentee vote, sometimes using questionable techniques.” Poor, elderly, and minority communities are most likely to be preyed upon by so-called ballot “brokers.” Concerns about fraud in mail-in ballots were serious enough that a 2008 report produced by the CalTech/MIT Voting Technology Project recommended that states “restrict or abolish on-demand absentee voting in favor of in-person early voting.”

Pa. removes 200 deaths from state coronavirus count as questions mount about reporting process, accuracy

Pennsylvania has corrected its coronavirus data multiple times over the past week to account for irregularities, according to new reports.

Earlier this week, Pennsylvania started to include “probable deaths” in its fatalities. As a result, the total number of coronavirus deaths grew by 276, then 360, in successive nights, almost doubling the number of deaths in the state in two days. The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) subsequently removed 200 deaths from its count after facing mounting questions about the accuracy of the count.

Health Secretary Rachel Levine spoke to the Philadelphia Inquirer about the initial decision to include probable deaths, as well as the decision to later remove those from the count.

A “probable death” is one that a doctor believes is caused by COVID-19, even though the patient is never tested for the virus.

“We realize that this category can be confusing, since it does change over time,” Levine said.

“At times, there are things we need to review, and potentially revisit the way the data is being analyzed,” she said. “And this is one of those times.”

Levine clarified that both spikes in numbers due to “probable deaths” included deaths that occurred days, even weeks earlier.

The discrepancy initially came to light weeks ago when coroners reported that their numbers did not match what the DOH reported.

US CORONAVIRUS DEATH TOLL PASSES 50,000

“There’s a discrepancy in the numbers,” Charles E. Kiessling Jr., president of the Pennsylvania Coroners Association and coroner in Lycoming County, told the Inquirer. “I’m not saying there’s something going on... I’m not a conspiracy theory guy. But accuracy is important.”

“This is why I’m so upset,” Kiessling added. “Our job is to investigate... We do this every day.”

Kiessling said it was a matter of public safety that the DOH clarify the discrepancy. Coroners have complained over the past month regarding discrepancies in the death figures.

The DOH initially claimed that a computer glitch caused an issue with reconciling multiple reporting systems and the “culmination of that data-validating effort.”

“We will now be reporting probable deaths related to COVID-19 in addition to confirmed deaths,” Levine announced Tuesday, but department spokesperson Nate Wardle told the Inquirer that “probable deaths” had been included in the count far earlier than that.

He later retracted his statement, saying the department only started to include “probable deaths” starting Tuesday, when Levine made the announcement.

As of early Thursday, Kiessling said the DOH had not yet reached out to his office about the matter. Levine later said she would contact coroners next week, giving the department time to understand “the different nuances” of the issue.

Dr. Judy Mikovitz was a brilliant young doctor with a promising career, until she discovered what she considered to be harmful consequences with vaccines. After she came out with her warnings, she was jailed for identifying the link between vaccines and chronic diseases.

FBI conducting raid at Allure Medical in Shelby Township

This is the first raid of its kind raid in Michigan over a purported treatment for COVID-19.

The FBI said it is a task force operation with the Department of Health and Human Services and the FBI. Agents participating in the raid are wearing special protection because of possible risk of exposure to coronavirus.

They’re gathering boxes of evidence, documents, etc. Agents arrived just after 8 a.m.

Allure has recently promoted that it is treating COVID-19 patients who aren't hospitalized using intravenous vitamin C therapy "with great results."

In a press release sent out to news stations last week, Allure said that Dr. Charles Mok, the founder of Allure Medical, is providing the high-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy to all essential workers in Michigan, saying that it is being used in hospitals around the country.

The company has several locations in metro Detroit and around the country.

Many a parent has applied hydrogen peroxide to a child's cut or scrape to prevent infections. But a number of Southern California naturopathic doctors are using the mild antiseptic in an unconventional way: They intravenously infuse a saline solution with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide straight into a patient's bloodstream.

Montrose osteopath Dr. Yoshi Rahm says this treatment, called IV hydrogen peroxide, does the same thing inside your body as it does on the outside. It's "killing things," such as "the infection that you currently have, or those unhealthy cancer cells you currently have," he says.

There's no proof this treatment works. On top of that, IV hydrogen peroxide can be expensive and potentially dangerous. Yet it's not hard to find naturopaths in Southern California who offer it.

Some naturopaths promote it online. In this YouTube video, a doctor in Georgia says there are "30 to 50 maladies" that IV hydrogen peroxide can help fight, including colds, flus and bacterial and viral infections.

"When you have one compound that someone's telling you can treat a wide variety of unrelated conditions, that's a red flag," says Dr. David Gorski, a professor at Wayne State University's medical school and editor of the website Science-Based Medicine.

Even as China has sent in a medical team to North Korea to advise the leader, a Beijing-backed satellite TV channel's vice director, who is also a niece of a Chinese foreign minister, has claimed that Kim Jong Un is dead.

Vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television told her 15 million followers on Weibo that her Kim Jong Un death claim was backed by a "very solid source."

Her post on Weibo since then has been shared widely on social media. There is also a viral image that is being shared that claims to show Kim Jong Un lying dead inside a glass coffin.

While these claims cannot be verified independently, the timing of it certainly makes one curious as now China has sent in a medical team.

Reuters reported that China has dispatched a team to North Korea including medical experts to advise on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to three people familiar with the situation.

At this point, until there is a report from either KCNA or other state media, there is no way to verify whether Kim Jong Un is alive or dead.

Durham Investigation Targeting Media Leaks that Got Michael Flynn Fired

Former Trump national security advisor Michael FLynn was the subject of media leaks in January and February 2017 that ultimately led to his dismissal and eventually, an indictment. The leaked information was from transcripts of Flynn telephone calls that are considered highly classified and sensitive. Several high ranking officials in the government leaked the information on at least two separate occasions to David Ignatius of the Washington Post, according to the New York Times. The probe into leaks is part of a Justice Department investigation headed by prosecutor John Durham into the origins of the Russia collusion story.

Daily Caller: The report is the first indication that Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, is focusing on media leaks as part of an expansive probe into issues related to the government’s investigation into possible ties between Trump associates and the Russian government. Durham has been investigating the FBI’s handling of the Steele dossier and the CIA’s handling of intelligence regarding Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. The story that the leakers gave Ignatius was explosive. A column that Ignatius wrote on Jan. 12, 2017, helped stoke conspiracies of collusion between Team Trump and the Kremlin. Citing a “senior U.S. government official,” Ignatius reported that Flynn spoke in late December 2016 to Sergey Kislyak, who then served as ambassador to Russia. Ignatius wrote that Flynn “cultivates close Russian contacts,” and questioned whether the retired lieutenant general spoke with Kislyak about sanctions that the Obama administration had placed against Russia.

That Flynn spoke to the Russian ambassador about sanctions is hardly earth-shattering news. But the insinuation that some sort of deal was in the works between the Trump campaign and the Russian government that sanctions would be lifted if Russia helped Trump win the presidency was totally false. And it took a special prosecutor nine long months of investigations to figure that out. A team of reporters at WaPo followed up with a story on Feb. 9, 2017, citing nine current and former government officials who said that Flynn discussed sanctions with Kislyak. It has since been revealed that investigators had transcripts of Flynn’s phone calls with Kislyak.

Flynn was indicted for making false statements to the FBI. He pled guilty to protect his son from legal jeopardy. He has since petitioned the court to vacate his deal, claiming he did not knowingly lie to investigators. Of course, that hardly mattered during this witch hunt. And the media were willing partners with the counterintelligence community in their attempts to bring Trump down.

Durham may prefer to operate in the shadows, playing his cards close to the vest and keeping leaks from his own office at a minimum. Attorney General Barr appears willing to give him wide latitude in his investigation as the prosecutor roams the dark underbelly of American intelligence. Those can't be the only leaks that Durham is investigating, nor the only direction his investigation is going. No one is even guessing how long this probe will last, but Durham has a reputation for being thorough, which means it will be a while.

DOD On USNS Comfort Departing NY: ‘Expectations were far worse…than what we’ve seen’

The US Navy Ship Comfort will be departing New York City after President Donald Trump deployed the ship at the request of Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill DeBlasio nearly three and a half weeks ago Jonathan Rath Hoffman, assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs, told reporters Friday. Moreover, although he didn’t provide exact numbers on the matter, Hoffman said that the “expectations were far worse… than what we’ve seen.” For that reason, Gov. Cuomo and Mayor DeBlasio are returning this ship to DOD’s Northern Command. “If you look at a city like New York, the expectations were a far worse situation than what we’ve seen,” he said addressing questions of whether deploying Comfort was a waste of DOD resources. “Having our forces and having our people forward deploy with that capability and not needing it was far better than not having them there and needing it.”

The Defense Department, Hoffman said, will be consulting FEMA to pinpoint the vessel’s next deployment location and to expect a decision on the matter in the “coming days.” “We expect the Comfort will be heading back to Norfolk, where it will go through kind of the normal post-deployment cycle, where we will restock it. It will be just prepared for the next deployment,” Hoffman said. “We have said from the start… we wanted to be very careful with our deployment of those assets because we wanted to ensure that they are mobile, that they can be used somewhere else. So our goal all along has been to use them in New York as needed and then when the need no longer exists, to prepare them to move to the next location,” He added. The ship holds over 1,000 medical care workers and has the capacity of 500 beds, which Hoffman indicated that the number of patients never hit that number, but that there were a “fair number” of patients cared for on the ship. As of last Friday, 71 of its 500 beds were occupied, CNBC reported. There are currently 146,139 people infected with the coronavirus in New York and 10,746 have died from the virus statewide.

White House, CNN continue fight over press room access in dispute over coronavirus briefings

A White House official reportedly told a CNN reporter to swap seats with a print writer; both journalists refused

Te White House and CNN reportedly continued their fight over press room access in dispute over a reporting seat at Friday's coronavirus briefing.

The altercation could be the next step in the White House exerting what it argues is its constitutionally-sound right to maintain order in its press briefings.

Under the existing media seating chart created by the journalist-run White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA), CNN has prime real estate on the front row.

"Earlier today before the briefing, a White House official instructed the print pooler to take CNN’s seat in the briefing room because the seating would be swapped for the briefing," Chris Johnson, the chief political reporter and White House reporter for the Washington Blade, wrote in a press pool report. "Given the seating assignment is under the jurisdiction of White House Correspondents' Association, not the White House, pooler refused to move."

Johnson said the dispute continued until the Secret Service stepped in.

"The White House official then informed the print pooler swapping wasn’t an option and the Secret Service was involved," Johnson wrote. "Again, pooler refused to move, citing guidance from the WHCA. The briefing proceeded with both CNN and print pooler sitting in their respective assigned seats."

At press time, Johnson did not respond to questions clarifying who the "White House official" was or whether "the Secret Service was involved" meant there was some sort of physical altercation. Leaders of the WHCA did not respond to request for comment at press time, either.

President Trump's Friday briefing was far shorter than his usual White House Coronavirus Task Force briefings, lasting only 22 minutes with only one journalist question taken (by Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn).

Earlier this month, the Justice Department rejected a CNN political analyst's legal claim he deserved access to President Trump's coronavirus briefings, warning the White House press room is ultimately federal property and not the legal domain of journalists.

The DOJ's letter rejecting CNN and Playboy journalist Brian Karem's demands to access the briefings appeared to serve notice to WHCA that its power to regulate who attends White House press briefings was based only on years of "tradition" and not a legal right.

“The press Briefing Room is White House property," and the White House press secretary "merely acquiesced" to WHCA's seating arrangements for reporters during the pandemic, the department's letter stated. The letter also cited court case law indicating that a president choosing which media outlets to speak to and deny did not violate the First Amendment.

Karem, a frequent Trump critic, objected to being denied access to the briefings by WHCA while the White House allowed Chanel Rion, a reporter for conservative outlet One America News, into the briefing room independently of WHCA approval. The WHCA recently voted to ban Rion from the briefings, however Rion returned to the briefing room as a guest of the White House press secretary.

Over 1,000 protesters storm Wisconsin Capitol to demand end to lockdown as every 8th resident out of work

A massive group of demonstrators gathered in Wisconsin’s state Capitol to protest Governor Tony Evers’ stay-at-home order – imposed to stem the spread of Covid-19 – in what appears to be the largest anti-lockdown action to date.

At least 1,500 people descended on Madison on Friday to call for a repeal of the containment measures, according to the Wisconsin Capitol Police. Spurred on by the economic pain inflicted under the lockdown, the protest comes as hundreds of thousands of residents are out of a job, or around one in eight workers.

Carrying a vibrant array of flags, signs and banners, the demonstrators made their presence known outside of the shuttered Capitol building. Though they were denied a permit to hold the protest earlier this week, the event’s planners went ahead regardless, with one organizer stating she was “willing to risk citation” in order to be heard.

Governor Evers extended his “safer at home” order last week, with the containment measures now set to expire on May 26, but the second phase of lockdown will ease some of the restrictions, allowing public libraries, golf courses and a number of other “non-essential” businesses to reopen. Republican lawmakers attempted to block the extension earlier this week, filing a lawsuit calling for an injunction against the policy, but the courts have yet to grant the request.

Despite the relaxed rules, Wisconsin workers will continue to take a beating under the lockdown, seeing far worse unemployment numbers than at the height of the 2008 financial meltdown.

“Even in 2008, we didn't have half of the unemployment claims throughout the whole great recession,” Emily Savard with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development told local media, adding that over 440,000 residents have filed for unemployment, drowning the state’s system in claims and inquiries. Nationwide, the business shutdowns could help to quadruple federal deficit spending to $3.7 trillion as lawmakers pass a series of massive relief packages, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

On top of economic woes, the protesters also voiced concerns about abuse of power and government overreach, some hoisting signs dubbing Evers a “power grabber,” while another placard sardonically read: “Oh, no! A virus. Quick … let’s burn the Bill of Rights.”

“We’ve been competing against other states, against other nations, against our own federal government for PPE — coveralls, masks, shields, N95 masks — and we’re not waiting around any longer. And we’re no longer interested in the progress that we were seeing in the past.” That was California governor Gavin Newsom in an April 7 MSNBC appearance with Rachel Maddow. As Newsom added, “In the last 48 hours we have secured –through a consortia of nonprofits and a manufacturer here in the state of California – upwards of 200 million masks on a monthly basis that we’re confident we can supply the needs of the state of California, potentially the needs of other western states.” As it happened, the manufacturer wasn’t exactly “here in the state of California.” The manufacturer was BYD, “Build Your Dreams,” a Chinese company not known for making personal protective equipment. Newsom wasn’t revealing details of the $1 billion deal, which as John Myers of the Los Angeles Times noted, “will cost taxpayers 30 percent more than the governor’s January budget allotted for infectious diseases for the whole fiscal year.”

The day after Newsom’s MSNBC appearance, San Francisco Democrat Phil Ting, chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee, told reporters, “We don’t have any information as to how many masks we’re buying, who we’re buying them from, at what price. What are we obligated? For how long are we obligated?” Los Angeles Democrat Holly Mitchell, chairwoman of the Senate Budget Committee, fired off an official letter demanding details. Newsom wasn’t talking, which prompted an escalation. “Perhaps it’s time for legislative leaders to dust off their rarely-used subpoena power,” the Sacramento Bee editorialized on April 22. The administration feared that “Trump might steal California’s equipment,” but that did not justify Newsom’s decision “to hide a taxpayer-funded contract from legislative leaders.” Neither did the obfuscation account for “other reasons why the administration may wish to shield the contract from oversight.” Journalists and legislators alike should have seen this coming.

In March, as CalMatters noted, legislators “made $500 million available immediately and allowed Newsom to spend up to $1 billion total,” and unanimously passed two bills “waiving a requirement that legislation must be in print for three days before lawmakers can act.” Legislators also suspended public hearings for at least a month and floor votes for at least a month. As Republican assemblyman Jay Obernolte explained, “We are placing an extraordinary degree of trust in Gov. Gavin Newsom.” The governor took full advantage, opting for BYD despite serious issues with the Chinese company. BYD has “glaring red flags on its record, including a history of supplying allegedly faulty products to the U.S., ties to the Chinese military and Communist Party, and possible links to forced labor,” reported Daniel Newhauser and Keegan Hamilton of Vice News. The federal Food and Drug Administration gave the company emergency approval, even though BYD had been prohibited by law from bidding for some federal contracts and is involved in lawsuits with several states.

Newsom was not forthcoming about the deal’s details but it did emerge that California already sent the first installment of $495 million to BYD. When reporters approached BYD, the Chinese company referred all questions to Newsom’s office. The governor’s deal with BYD was not the first time California politicians rejected American products and American labor in favor of China. “California Turns To China For New Bay Bridge,” noted Richard Gonzalez of NPR back in 2011. On this key infrastructure project, “California avoided legal requirements to use domestic steel by not using federal funds for the job.” Since politicians seldom if ever turn down federal funds, they must have been determined to outsource the job to “a state-owned Chinese company, Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries.” This was supposedly to save money, but it didn’t.

RAND Corporation Brings Back Cold War Era Assessment Of Russian Correlation of Forces and Means

In late April 2020, the infamous RAND Corporation released a report that used to be a stable of US and allies understanding of the Soviet Union during the Cold War Era.

It is named “Russian Assessments and Applications of the Correlation of Forces and Means.” [pdf]

Its authors are Clint Reach, Vikram Kilambi, Mark Cozad.

“The international environment and new security threats that emerged following the collapse of the Soviet Union shifted the United States’ focus away from the large-scale military problems prevalent during the Cold War to different concerns, such as terrorism, regional ethnic conflict, and nuclear proliferation. As U.S. security concerns evolved, in-depth analysis of COFM and other issues related to understanding military balance and competition between major powers received relatively little attention from military planners and analysts.”

And as the world moves toward a new type of Cold War, new ways of carrying out due diligence are required.

Since there is a 30-year gap in knowledge after the Soviet Union dissolved, the authors have attempted to track the entire correlations of forces and means (COFM) evolution of Russia.

The key findings of the report are 4:

Modern Russian COFM assessments with respect to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) likely are based on combat potential values derived through a methodology that uses qualimetric methods and expert elicitation and was developed by the Russian General Staff’s think tank.

From the Russian perspective, the critical force correlation is NATO’s capability to build up forces and execute conventional precision strikes against critical military and economic infrastructure from air and sea, and Russia’s capability to disrupt such an attack.

Russia’s military force structure remains a product of deep reforms implemented in 2008, which were predicated on the assumptions that large-scale war was unlikely and that modern wars between advanced militaries with nuclear weapons would be centered on the aerospace domain.

In peacetime, superiority in long-range conventional precision munitions (in addition to platforms and enabling infrastructure) can have deterrent value given “escalation dominance” and the ability to hold Russia’s outer layer of defenses at risk and protect its military-economic potential in the rear.

In wartime, according to some Russian analyses of a hypothetical NATO-Russia war, escalatory pressure can be created by expanding the conflict beyond the local theater of military operations as a result of disparity in long-range precision capability and capacity.

The study is by no means an independent one – it was funded by Russia Strategic Initiative, United States European Command, and conducted within the International Security and Defense Policy Center of the RAND National Defense Research Institute, a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Unified Combatant Commands, the Navy, the Marine Corps, the defense agencies, and the defense Intelligence Community.

General Mike Flynn Breaks His Silence After Government Releases Brady Documents Showing He Committed No Crimes

General Mike Flynn Friday night broke his silence after the government finally released Brady documents showing he committed no crimes.

Attorney Sidney Powell has been fighting to get her hands on the Brady Material since she took over the case.

The documents are filed under seal, but attorney Sidney Powell said it reveals Flynn did not commit any crimes.

Powell also said that the documents produced found further misconduct by Mueller’s thug prosecutor Brandon Van Grack specifically.

“What else has the FBI buried,” said Powell to Sara Carter on Friday. “Where’s the original 302? And obviously some of the good agents are finally stepping up.”

General Flynn fired off a tweet for the first time since September of 2017 linking to his declaration of innocence.

Following the release of the exculpatory documents Attorney Sidney Powell filed a motion to dismiss ALL CHARGES against the former Trump National Security Advisor.

The Deep State hunted down General Flynn and leaked his December 2016 phone calls with Russian Ambassador Kislyak to the Washington Post in order to oust him as NatSec Advisor.

Mueller and his team of thugs prosecuted Flynn and threatened to jail his son if he didn’t plead guilty so he was hit with one count of lying to the feds — but he never lied.

The government refused to turn over the Brady material for years and according to the Daily Caller, FBI Director Wray fought to prevent exculpatory evidence from surfacing in the case!

How The "West Point Mafia" Runs Washington

Every West Point class votes on an official motto. Most are then inscribed on their class rings. Hence, the pejorative West Point label “ring knocker.” (As legend has it, at military meetings a West Pointer “need only knock his large ring on the table and all Pointers present are obliged to rally to his point of view.”) Last August, the class of 2023 announced theirs: “Freedom Is Not Free.” Mine from the class of 2005 was “Keeping Freedom Alive.” Each class takes pride in its motto and, at least theoretically, aspires to live according to its sentiments, while championing the accomplishments of fellow graduates. But some cohorts do stand out. Take the class of 1986 (“Courage Never Quits”). As it happens, both Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are members of that very class, as are a surprisingly wide range of influential leaders in Congress, corporate America, the Pentagon, the defense industry, lobbying firms, big pharma, high-end financial services, and even security-consulting firms. Still, given their striking hawkishness on the subject of American war-making, Esper and Pompeo rise above the rest. Even in a pandemic, they are as good as their class motto. When it comes to this country’s wars, neither of them ever quits.

Once upon a time, retired Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute (Class of ’75), a former US Ambassador to NATO and a senior commander in Iraq and Afghanistan, taught both Esper and Pompeo in his West Point social sciences class. However, it was Pompeo, the class of ’86 valedictorian, whom Lute singled out for praise, remembering him as “a very strong student—fastidious, deliberate.” Of course, as the Afghanistan Papers, released by The Washington Post late last year, so starkly revealed, Lute told an interviewer that, like so many US officials, he “didn’t have the foggiest notion of what we were undertaking in Afghanistan.” Though at one point he was President George W. Bush’s “Afghan war czar,” the general never expressed such doubts publicly and his record of dissent is hardly an impressive one. Still, on one point at least, Lute was on target: Esper and Pompeo are smart, and that’s what worries me (as in the phrase “too smart for their own good”). Esper, a former Raytheon lobbyist, had particularly hawkish views on Russia and China before he ever took over at the Pentagon and he wasn’t alone when it came to the urge to continue America’s wars. Pompeo, then a congressman, exhibited a striking pre–Trump era foreign policy pugnacity, particularly vis-à-vis the Islamic world. It has since solidified into a veritable obsession with toppling the Iranian regime. Their militarized obsessions have recently taken striking form in two ways: The secretary of defense instructed US commanders to prepare plans to escalate combat against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, an order the mission’s senior leader there, Lt. Gen. Robert “Pat” White, reportedly resisted; meanwhile, the secretary of state evidently is eager to convince President Trump to use the Covid-19 pandemic, now devastating Iran, to bomb that country and further strangle it with sanctions. Worse yet, Pompeo might be just cunning enough to convince his ill-informed, insecure boss (so open to clever flattery) that war is the answer.

The militarism of both men matters greatly, but they hardly pilot the ship of state alone, any more than Trump does (whatever he thinks). Would that it were the case. Sadly, even if voters threw them all out, the disease runs much deeper than them. Enter the rest of the illustrative class of ’86. As it happens, Pompeo’s and Esper’s classmates permeate the deeper structure of imperial America. And let’s admit it, they are, by the numbers, an impressive crew. As another ’86 alumnus, Congressman Mark Green (R-TN), bragged on the House floor in 2019, “My class [has] produced 18 general officers…22-plus presidents and CEOs of major corporations…two state legislators…[and] three judges,” as well as “at least four deans and chancellors of universities.” He closed his remarks by exclaiming, “Courage never quits, ’86!” However, for all his gushing, Green’s list conceals much. It illuminates neither the mechanics nor the motives of his illustrious classmates; that is, what they’re actually doing and why. Many are key players in a corporate-military machine bent on, and reliant on, endless war for profit and professional advancement. A brief look at key ’86ers offers insight into President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s military-industrial complex in 2020—and it should take your breath away.

Pizzagate update from the Daily Mail:

Aspiring male model who set fire to pizza shop is sentenced to 4 years

Ryan Jaselskis, 23, pleaded guilty in December to arson and assault on a police officer. The latter charge stemmed from a fight he had with a US Park Police officer who detained him at the Washington Monument.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to the sentence that was then accepted by US District Judge Timothy J Kelly, the Washington Post reports.

Kelly shared in his ruling that the popular restaurant had been targeted in an unrelated attack in 2016 that made Jaselskis's crime 'that much more damaging.'

In the 2016 attack, Edgar Maddison Welch entered the pizzeria with an AR-15 rifle to investigate a viral internet rumor - 'Pizzagate' -about a child sex ring operating in the eatery's basement.

A motive has not been determined in Jaselskis's case but prosecutors felt that he needed a similar sentence as Welch's.

Assistant US Attorneys Dineen A Baker and Andrew Floyrd wrote that the cases were 'similarly situated.'

The defendants attorneys argued that their client was actually 'suffering from a diagnosed mental illness' and not an ill motive.

LOS ANGELES – A Bay Area man who retired from the FBI last year after 20 years as a special agent was arrested today on a federal criminal charge alleging he conspired to accept more than $200,000 in cash bribes and gifts in exchange for providing sensitive law enforcement information to a lawyer with ties to Armenian organized crime.

Babak Broumand, 53, of Lafayette, California, was arrested near his residence by special agents with the FBI and the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General. Broumand is expected to make his initial appearance Monday morning, via telephone from jail, in federal court in San Francisco.

Broumand was charged in a criminal complaint filed under seal Tuesday in United States District Court in Los Angeles. The complaint charges Broumand with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official. It outlines a scheme in which the lawyer made regular bribe payments to and purchased gifts for Broumand while he was an FBI agent assigned to the San Francisco Field Office working on national security matters and the development of confidential sources.

During the course of the scheme, which started in early 2015 and continued through most of 2017, Broumand allegedly accepted bribe payments averaging approximately $10,000 per month. The bribes were paid by a man who became a licensed lawyer in 2016, according to the complaint, which refers to this man as CW1, or cooperating witness 1. The complaint outlines cash deposits to several banks accounts, as well as various gifts, including hotels, transportation and escort services, that total well over $200,000.

“Broumand and CW1 conspired and agreed that Broumand would perform official acts and omit to do acts, query law enforcement databases, provide CW1 with non-public law enforcement sensitive information and protection, and assist CW1 in CW1’s efforts to evade detection by law enforcement,” according to the affidavit in support of the complaint.

Many of the bribe payments were made in cash, but one payment was a $30,000 cashier’s check made payable to a company called Love Bugs, a hair lice treatment business that Broumand owned with his wife, the complaint alleges. Broumand used this money – which he later attempted to falsely characterize alternatively as a boat sale or a loan – as part of a down payment on a $1.3 million vacation home near Lake Tahoe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s apparent mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic could allow “a potential new leader of Russia” to rival the Kremlin strongman, according to one of President Trump’s top former advisers. “I think power is certainly going to shift really away from him to others,” Retired Army Gen. H.R. McMaster said during a Hoover Institution event. McMaster, the president’s second White House national security adviser, oversaw the development of the 2017 National Security Strategy that highlighted Russia’s attempts “to weaken U.S. influence in the world and divide us from our allies and partners.” The coronavirus emerged at an inconvenient time for those efforts because it interrupted some of Putin’s plans to consolidate power at a time when he is already beset by falling oil prices and a struggling economy. “It has a very interesting historical parallel because the Soviet Union started to tremble — it had a lot of weakness — when oil prices collapsed,” a Baltic official told the Washington Examiner in response to McMaster’s comments. “So, from an historical perspective, it might be right.”

Putin began the year intending for these spring months to feature a sustained campaign to burnish his political image and eliminate impediments to his rule. He scheduled a referendum for Wednesday that was designed to ratify a plan to amend the constitution so that he could remain in power until 2036, a vote that was to have been followed by a high-profile annual celebration of victory in World War II. Instead, both events were delayed due to the coronavirus, and Putin disappeared from public view rather than fill the void left by their absence with new programming. “All of a sudden, all his efforts to solidify power were overshadowed by the COVID-19 outbreak,” Alisa Muzergues, a foreign policy analyst at GLOBSEC in the Slovak Republic, told the Washington Examiner. “The prices for oil, which is the backbone of the Russian already shattered economy, collapsed. And the myth of his strong image, which he and his entourage have been so carefully working on and projecting both inside and outside Russia, could be ruined.” His absence created the space, and the necessity, for local officials to act independently of the Kremlin.

“When Putin was away, hiding in his own dacha, local governors took a lot of control fighting pandemic, so people trust more than before local governments,” the Baltic official said. “In Russia, it's a big thing when you are starting your own initiatives without the czar.” Putin has gripped the top of the Kremlin’s greasy pole for more than 20 years, in part because his prospective rivals tend to find themselves marginalized or even murdered before they can mount a serious challenge. “Putin was very clever, he kind of either killed or bought all the potential competitors and political opponents,” the Baltic official continued. “The ones that he couldn't buy or couldn't subdue, he either killed or put in jail.” Yet Putin needs the regional governors and local officials to succeed in containing the outbreak, analysts agree, in order to avoid popular anger spreading alongside the contagion. “The ruble has crashed to four-year lows, the Russian Central Bank warned the economy could shrink by 6 percent this year,” Muzergues wrote in an email. “In reality, the situation can get much worse, and it will be especially felt in the regions, which might become the epicenters of the expression of discontent." "Putin managed to outlive crises before, but this combination of challenges and constantly growing discontent in Russian society might become fatal for his governance,". she added in an email.

The Baltic official was cautious not to forecast any major upheaval. “The Kremlin has a very solid grip on power — at least, that's what it seems from outside,” the official said. “In Russia, it's always very unpredictable. Like, nobody also expects the many revolutions that happened in Russia, but they happened.” Yet they all agreed that “the pressure on Putin is certainly going to mount,” as McMaster put it Thursday. And if power shifts away from a leader who has chosen to oppose U.S. interests in multiple disputes around the world, then, McMaster added, it might flow to “others who view Russia's future more as aligned with Europe and the West than with China's Communist Party.”

On Wednesday, NYT’s Maggie Haberman claimed she had a bombshell story that an FDA official named Rick Bright was fired for bravely contradicting the President claiming that hydroxychloroquine was was dangerous.

The mainstream media jumped on the story, repeating the conspiracy everywhere. It turns out the story from the New York Times is 100% FALSE.

It was Bright that actually requested the FDA to give emergency approval for the use of hydroxychloroquine, he was a cheerleader for its use.

But that is just the start, it wasn’t that Bright opposed the President it was that the Administration did not like his management style or his leadership, they’ve been trying to get rid of him for a year. Politico discovered that Bright actually praised the President for pushing the use of hydroxychloroquine.

The Trump administration has been working to oust Bright since last year, as officials battled with him over his management and leadership.

The FBI's top lawyer was torn over what to do when FBI Director James Comey asked in 2016 whether he should inform Congress that the bureau was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

FBI General Counsel James Baker had been told that FBI agents discovered between 600,000 and 1 million emails on disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s laptop relating to Clinton. The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee’s top aide, Huma Abedin, was married to Weiner, who was being investigated for sending illicit texts to an underage girl.

Baker, who left the FBI in May 2018, told author David Rohde that he felt like the “fates had thrown him a hundred-mile-an-hour fastball.”

Baker “believed it was likely that the FBI could find new evidence of wrongdoing by Clinton,” Rohde wrote in his recently released book, In Deep: The FBI, the CIA, and the Truth about America’s “Deep State.”

“She wins the election, we go to DOJ, and we recommend that they indict her before she becomes president,” Baker said, describing his nightmare scenario. “That’s not a good place for the country. That’s not a good place for the FBI.”

Baker also worried that the bureau’s credibility would be damaged if Comey did not inform Congress.

“I thought, ‘What is best for the law enforcement and judicial system?’” he said. “I said, 'I thought the director had an obligation to notify Congress.' Director Comey agreed with my advice.”

Comey told Congress of the new findings less than two weeks before the 2016 election, sending letters to the chairmen and chairwomen and ranking members of the eight committees that investigated Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

The FBI conducted a criminal investigation during the 2016 election into Clinton’s use of the server. In July 2016, Comey, who was later fired by President Trump, publicly recommended that no charges be brought against Clinton, but he chastised her and her team for being "extremely careless" in handling classified information.

The FBI reopened the case 11 days before the election only to close it again days before voters went to the polls. Clinton has argued Comey’s handling of the investigation was one of the reasons she lost to Trump.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - "The U.S. Federal Reserve announced Friday that banks can now allow account holders to make an unlimited number of withdrawals and transfers from their savings accounts.

The central bank updated its rules to scrap the six-per-month limit that had previously existed for such accounts. The Fed said the move would help ensure people can access their funds “at a time when financial events associated with the coronavirus pandemic have made such access more urgent.”

The Fed said it removed the limit because a recent policy shift had rendered it unnecessary."

Your groceries apparently can’t transmit the coronavirus. There’s no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 can spread through food, or what it’s wrapped in, Dr. Stephen Hahn, commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, said Thursday. “We have no evidence that the virus, the Covid-19 virus, is transmitted by food or by food packaging,” Hahn said during a CNN town hall. There’s still a risk of catching the bug when restocking your pantry. But you’re more likely to be infected by someone coughing inside the store than by touching your groceries, aid Dr. Leana Wen, the former Baltimore health commissioner.

Experts suggest reducing the frequency of grocery runs, keeping a safe distance, rigorous hand washing and other measures to stay safe. As for disinfecting your groceries, that may also be overkill, according to the FDA. The FDA head was addressing the nation’s food supply and worker safety amid the pandemic when he made the statement about food and food packaging. “I can give great assurance that the American food supply is safe. We also very much care about our food workers, both in the retail and in the manufacturing setting. So it’s really important for folks to follow the CDC guidance in terms of protection,” he said. His comments came after Tyson Foods on Wednesday suspended operations at an Iowa plant that is critical to the nation’s pork supply, but had been devastated by a growing outbreak.

The allegations against Bryan, which were reported by The New York Times in October 2018, center around his time as a senior adviser in the Office of International Affairs in 2016. He was designated a “special government employee," which allowed him to do limited private sector work.

The whistle-blower, Robert Ivy, alleged that Bryan used his DOE position to develop his business interests with ValueBridge, including by providing money to foreign officials with the goal of influencing their actions and improperly sharing proprietary information.

The allegations reference players who featured prominently in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The complaint, which was also obtained by AP, describes Bryan’s dealings with Rinat Akhmetov, the Ukrainian energy oligarch who hired Paul Manafort as an adviser years before Manafort became chairman of Trump’s presidential campaign. According to the complaint, Bryan denied ever interacting with Manafort, who was convicted in Mueller’s Russia investigation related to Manafort's work in Ukraine — though they did stay at the same Hyatt Hotel in Kyiv on one occasion recounted by the whistle-blower.

Ivy, a former DOE official who now works in the private sector, and his attorney said Friday that they provided information to the IG investigation but have not received any notice of a conclusion. Both expressed surprise that Bryan, who has a military background but is not a scientist, was called upon by the Trump to discuss the research.“Bill Bryan should not be in that position in the first place,” said John Tye, Ivy’s attorney and the founder and CEO of Whistleblower Aid. “The U.S. government found a substantial likelihood of wrongdoing by him on both the corruption and security violation matters.”

The Department of Energy referred questions about the investigation, which remains open, to its Inspector General's office, which did not respond to a request for information. DHS also did not respond to questions or make Bryan available for an interview.

NASA's incredible new moon map will serve as blueprint for human missions

Using decades of data, the USGS put together the most comprehensive geologic map of the moon yet.

NASA is preparing for new missions to the moon, setting an ambitious goal for putting walkin', talkin' humans (including the first woman) back on the lunar surface by 2024. There's plenty of gigantic hurdles to overcome before that future is realized, but this stunning, detailed new map of the moon's surface features, produced by scientists from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), NASA and the Lunar Planetary Institute, is likely to play an invaluable role in fulfilling the agency's goal. Known as the "Unified Geologic Map of the Moon", the cartograph looks like a rainbow Gobstopper and charts decades of geological surveys of the lunar surface, dating as far back as the Apollo era - when humans first stepped foot on our celestial neighbor. Using regional maps from six Apollo missions combined with new data acquired by NASA's lunar orbiter and observations by Kaguya, a probe launched by the Japanese space agency which imaged the moon between 2007 and 2009.

The colourful 1:5,000,000-scale geologic map, which was set to be unveiled during the 51st Lunar and Planetary Science Conference, is designed to serve as a resource for research and analysis efforts and to help future geologic surveys. "It's wonderful to see USGS create a resource that can help NASA with their planning for future missions," said Jim Reilly, USGS director, in a press release. The moon's pockmarked surface acts like a record of its history and the new map distinguishes between different geologic formations and time periods, using striking color to record the moon's past. The map is dominated by the pinks of the Imbrian era, which occurred some 3.5 billion years ago. During that time, the moon was smashed by asteroids, creating many of the impact craters we can see on the surface today.
