Florida’s Rick Scott demands reduced unemployment benefits in coronavirus relief bill

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott and a group of conservatives erected a roadblock on the swift passage of a massive, $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill on Wednesday afternoon, arguing that the bill’s increased unemployment benefits will discourage people from working or trying to find a job.

Scott, South Carolina Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, along with Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, objected to the bill’s $600 per week increase in unemployment benefits in addition to benefits currently offered by a worker’s state. The conservative Republicans said unemployment benefits should be capped at a worker’s current income, as opposed to a $600 per week increase that could lead to unemployment being temporarily more lucrative for some workers than keeping their job.

Increasing unemployment benefits during a government-induced recession to fight the spread of coronavirus was a major component of the far-reaching legislation that has yet to be finalized — and was in fact included in earlier versions of the bill.

“We have a virus and we know people can’t work for a variety of reasons,” Rick Scott said. “We got to help them but at the moment we go back to work, we cannot create an incentive not to work. We cannot be paying people more money on unemployment than they get paid in their job.”

But a spokesperson for Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, who leads the Senate Finance Committee, said the $600 increase applies to every state so the benefits can be handed out quickly.

“Each state has a different [unemployment insurance] program, so the drafters opted for a temporary across-the-board UI boost of $600, which can deliver needed aid in a timely manner rather than burning time to create a different administrative regime for each state,” Grassley spokesperson Taylor Foy said. “This increase is designed to make the average worker whole. It’s also important to remember that nobody who voluntarily leaves an available job is eligible for UI.”

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the White House’s lead negotiator on the stimulus bill, said at a Wednesday evening White House press conference that the $600 per week increase was the only way to help unemployed people quickly when many states, including Florida, cannot effectively process unemployment claims.

“Most of these state systems that have technology that is 30 years old or older. This is the only way we could assure that states could get this money in a fair way,” Mnuchin said. “Our number one issue was how do we make sure that American workers...keep getting paid. The president and vice president wanted to make sure they got money.”

Scott’s office said there’s the possibility of the Labor Department issuing a rule that would effectively cap unemployment benefits at a worker’s current income level.

But negotiators have said that implementing a cap on unemployment benefits tied to a worker’s income would be a near logistical impossibility, because each state has its own system for determining the level of unemployment benefits it doles out to workers.

The Republican senators framed their objection as a “drafting error” that could be fixed quickly by negotiators. But they want to fix the bill through an amendment vote, a process that could hold up passage of the bill.

Graham said if the $600 per week increase wasn’t a drafting error by negotiators, then “it’s the worst idea I’ve seen in a long time.”

Mexican Governor Claims Coronavirus Only Targets ‘Rich’ People

A Mexican governor sparked controversy after claiming the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) will spare those living in poverty, claiming they are “immune.”

During a daily news conference, Puebla Governor Miguel Barbosa said the 38 confirmed cases in his state were largely wealthy individuals. Barbosa is a member of the MORENA party, the same as President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

“If you are rich you are in danger,” Barbosa said. “If you are poor you are not, us poor individuals are immune.”

The statements come as Mexico reports five fatalities among more than 400 confirmed cases. In recent days, the World Health Organization classified the country for community infections, something local health officials tried to avoid.

Despite his claims of being poor, Barbosa was singled out in 2018 by El Universal for holding at least 10 properties in Mexico City and Puebla worth $1 million USD in assets.

The comments by the state executive drew criticism from peers and pundits, including former President Felipe Calderon–who said that if he was immune, he should go help those in need.

Governments across the world are galvanizing every surveillance tool at their disposal to help stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Countries have been quick to use the one tool almost all of us carry with us — our smartphones.

A new live index of ramped up security measures by Top10VPN details the countries which have already brought in measures to track the phones of coronavirus patients, ranging from anonymized aggregated data to monitor the movement of people more generally, to the tracking of individual suspected patients and their contacts, known as "contact tracing."

Other countries are likely to follow suit. The US Senate's $2 trillion economic stimulus bill includes $500 million for the CDC to launch a new "surveillance and data collection system" to monitor the spread of the virus, though it's not yet clear exactly how this system will work.

Samuel Woodhams, Top10VPN's Digital Rights Lead who compiled the index, warned that the world could slide into permanently increased surveillance.

"Without adequate tracking, there is a danger that these new, often highly invasive, measures will become the norm around the world," he told Business Insider. "Although some may appear entirely legitimate, many pose a risk to citizens' right to privacy and freedom of expression.

"Given how quickly things are changing, documenting the new measures is the first step to challenging potential overreach, providing scrutiny and holding corporations and governments to account."

While some countries will cap their new emergency measures, otherwise may retain the powers for future use. "There is a risk that many of these new capabilities will continue to be used following the outbreak," said Woodhams. "This is particularly significant as many of the new measures have avoided public and political scrutiny and do not include sunset clauses."

Rep. Matt Gaetz blasted the $350 million designated for migrants and refugees in the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package, which did not include any money for Immigration and Customs Enforcement or Border Patrol.

Appearing on Fox News’ Hannity, the Florida congressman did not hold back his outrage about money being spent to resettle refugees while Americans are out of work.

“Why in the world would we have $350 million for migrants and refugees before we restore the economic condition of every American in our country?” Rep. Gaetz demanded. “Oh by the way Sean, no money for Border Patrol and ICE in this bill.”

Rep. Gaetz also took aim at former Vice President Joe Biden for “seizing up like he’s the tinman” when his teleprompter stalled and Democrats for attempting tseizeze power while Senator Lindsey Graham attempts to solve the unemployment problem.

The final package did in fact include $350 million for migration and refugee assistance, while some Americans will get a one time check for $1,200.

Meghan Markle has secured her first official job after giving up royal life with her husband Prince Harry. Disney announced on Thursday that the Duchess of Sussex will be narrating a documentary called Elephant, which focuses on a family of the large mammals as they travel over 1,000 miles, according to the Associated Press. The film is set to be released April 3 on Disney+.

Elon Musk has said Tesla will reopen its New York factory 'as soon as humanly possible' to help make and distribute ventilators to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

'Giga New York will reopen for ventilator production as soon as humanly possible. We will do anything in our power to help the citizens of New York,' the billionaire said in a Tweet on Wednesday.

Medtronic Chief Executive Officer Omar Ishrak told CNBC earlier in the day that the medical device maker has started working with Tesla, which is fast on track to start production of ventilators at Fremont.

Several other automotive companies, including Ford and General Motors, have offered to use their manufacturing capabilities to ramp up production of ventilators.

The controversial entrepreneur, who has repeatedly downplayed the severity of the global health crisis, delivered over 1,000 ventilators to a California hospital to help with the treatment of patients.

California Governor Gavin Newsom praised Musk's 'heroic effort' during a press conference Monday.

'I told you a few days ago that [Musk] was likely to have 1,000 ventilators this week,' Newsom said. 'They arrived in Los Angeles and Elon Musk is already working with the hospital association and others to get those ventilators out in real time. It's an heroic effort.'

Tesla had bought the ventilators in China and shipped them to the US, Musk said.

He also supplied 50,000 face masks to the Seattle home of a University of Washington physician Sunday.

The outspoken Tesla boss seems to have backpedaled on previous statements were he has dismissed coronavirus as 'dumb' and said children are 'essentially immune'.

Musk's latest pledge came as New York state struggles to bring the spread of the deadly virus under control, with the number of infected individuals topping 20,000 and deaths reaching 385 as of Thursday morning.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has repeatedly stressed the need for more equipment - specifically ventilators – to be sent to New York state.

UN Secretary-General says humanity so far losing war against virus

UNITED NATIONS, March 26. /TASS/. G20 leaders should work out a joint "war-time" plan to emerge victorious in the fight against coronavirus, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the G20 virtual summit held as a video conference on Thursday.

"We are at war with a virus - and not winning it," he stressed. "It took the world three months to reach 100,000 confirmed cases of infection. The next 100,000 happened in just 12 days. The third took four days. The fourth, just one and a half," Guterres noted.

"This war needs a war-time plan to fight it," the UN Secretary-General emphasized. "Solidarity is essential. Among the G-20 - and with the developing world, including countries in conflict."

Guterres then proceeded the three key areas where he believes G20 efforts are crucial - suppression of COVID-19 transmission as quickly as possible, minimization of the social and economic impact and setting the stage for "a recovery that builds a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable economy." He also again called on all states to introduce a ceasefire.

In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in more than 150 countries.

On March 11, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. As of now, over 457,000 people have been infected around the world and more than 21,000 have died. Russia identified 840 cases, while 38 people recovered, and two people died.

The G20 leaders met via video conference on Thursday at the virtual summit inaccessible to press. The summit participants discussed coordination of actions to tackle the coronavirus spread and economic fallout of the pandemic.

Trump says US will categorize counties by risk level to 'overcome and vanquish' coronavirus

President Trump told the nation’s governors that data on the coronavirus pandemic would be examined at the county level. In a Thursday letter, Trump said that the administration is working on publishing new guidelines on how to deal with the virus so that entities at the state and local level can better combat its spread. He said that as testing capabilities expand, officials will be able to "classify counties with respect to continued risks posed by the virus." “This will incorporate robust surveillance testing, which allows us to monitor the spread of the virus throughout the country. Under these data-driven criteria, we will suggest guidelines categorizing counties as high-risk, medium-risk, or low-risk,” the letter reads.

The president said that the country’s testing capabilities improve on a daily basis, adding that with the improvements comes the ability to better track where the virus is and where it is spreading. “We mourn alongside those who have lost loved ones, and we send our prayers for the recovery of all who are still sick,” Trump said. “In their honor, we pledge to marshal every resource and power we have to overcome and vanquish this threat.”

Trump recently said he hopes the country will be reopened by Easter Sunday on April 12, but experts have expressed doubt about that short of a deadline, and many states already have restrictions in place that extend beyond that time. The United States has had more than 75,000 cases of the coronavirus and more than 1,000 deaths, according to the latest reading by the Johns Hopkins University tracker.

The insurrection Act of 1807 provides for Presidential powers to use State Militias (NG?) to put down anyone interfering with law enforcement in a National Emergency.

50 U.S.C. § 212 is not on point but identifies a Proclamation required before taking action.

Judicial immunity would not exist for insurrection from the bench.

Because we are in uncharted territory, the Civil War era cases like Merryman and Milligan can only act as a guideline for opinion.

I have always thought we would be looking at a legal fight of many past cases. A hybrid legal argument I always call stacking up the cases to make a single case.

POTUS Article 2 powers permit him to call Congress to session AND Adjourn them until he sees fit.

Milligan tells us only Congress has the power to suspend Habeas. Milligan did not address the fact that Congress was often not in Session for long periods of time due to travel of Winter and such. Milligan also teaches us that the Military can hold defendants during rebellion until it is resolved where the civilian Courts could then hold trial for the traitors.

I have looked high and low for something that fits our exact situation and the best I can do to form an opinion is understand the spirit of the pre/during/post civil war era cases.

For the most part, it looks like the Supreme Court punted as often as they could so as not to be committing treason themselves.

But, unlike other governments such as Germany or Switzerland, existing rules prevent the U.S. Treasury from actually issuing debt with negative yields at auction.

The conundrum has the potential to cost U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars if rates stay lower for longer, particularly as the U.S. is poised to issue more debt after the Senate passed a $2 trillion rescue package this week. For example, on Thursday, the Treasury sold $60 billion of four-week bills at the minimum allowed rate of 0%. But because the current market rate is roughly -0.14%, dealers can turn around and sell those bills at a premium and pocket an immediate windfall. In this case, about $7 million. That might not sound like much, with over $2.5 trillion of bills outstanding, it can add up very quickly.

The FRBNY bought $622 billion in Treasury and MBS, a staggering 2.9% of US GDP, in just the past five days-but they are not alone...the BoJ is doing it but not having very much success.

(as a reminder the BOJ now owns more than 100% of Japanese GDP in JGBs) and is "causing havoc" in Japanese money markets as the Bank of Japan continues to buy while dealers refuse to sell. Japan's repo market, which traditionally connects holders of bonds with investors looking to borrow them, jumped to a record Tuesday (although they since retreated on Wednesday) because as Bloomberg notes, "the introduction of cheaper, more regular dollar-swap auctions has generated huge demand from U.S. currency-starved dealers who are keeping their JGBs to put them down as collateral." So here is what the math looks like now that the Fed has launched enhanced swap lines with central banks such as the BOJ, allowing local entities to obtain dollar funding at much lower rates: in last week’s first round of the Fed’s revamped dollar-swap auctions, banks borrowed greenbacks for about 3-months at 0.37%, a massive discount to the near 2% it would cost them in the currency swap market. $32 billion was alloted in the first operation. In other words, we may have finally hit a point where the market becomes self-stabilizing, as the very mechanism that central banks used to nationalize capital markets results in so much distortion that market participants no longer have an incentive to use it. In short, QE in Japan, which was first among the developed nations to hit the zero bound (and drop below it) and the first to exponentially ramp up bond purchases, is now on the verge of failure.

The Art of Gaslighting

For those who have not seen the 1944 psychological thriller “Gaslight” directed by George Cukor, I would highly recommend you do so since there is an invaluable lesson contained within, that is especially applicable to what I suspect many of us are experiencing nowadays.

The story starts with a 14 year old Paula (played by Ingrid Bergman) who is being taken to Italy after her Aunt Alice Alquist, a famous opera singer and caretaker of Paula, is found murdered in her home in London. Paula is the one who found the body, and horror stricken is never her old self again. Her Aunt was the only family Paula had left in her life. The decision is made to send her away from London to Italy to continue her studies to become a world-renowned opera singer like her Aunt Alice.

Years go by, Paula lives a very sheltered life and a heavy somberness is always present within her, she can never seem to feel any kind of happiness. During her singing studies she meets a mysterious man (her piano accompanist during her lessons) and falls deeply in love with him. However, she knows hardly anything about the man named Gregory.

Paula agrees to marry Gregory after a two week romance and is quickly convinced to move back into her Aunt’s house in London that was left abandoned all these years. As soon as she enters the house, the haunting of the night of the murder revisits her and she is consumed with panic and fear. Gregory tries to calm her and talks about the house needing just a little bit of air and sun, and then Paula comes across a letter written to her Aunt from a Sergis Bauer which confirms that he was in contact with Alice just a few days before her murder. At this finding, Gregory becomes bizarrely agitated and grabs the letter from Paula. He quickly tries to justify his anger blaming the letter for upsetting her. Gregory then decides to lock all of her Aunt’s belongings in the attic, to apparently spare Paula any further anguish.

It is at this point that Gregory starts to change his behaviour dramatically. Always under the pretext for “Paula’s sake”, everything that is considered “upsetting” to Paula must be removed from her presence. And thus quickly the house is turned into a form of prison. Paula is told it is for her best not to leave the house unaccompanied, not to have visitors and that self-isolation is the best remedy for her “anxieties” which are getting worst. Paula is never strictly forbidden at the beginning but rather is told that she should obey these restrictions for her own good.

Before a walk, he gives as a gift a beautiful heirloom brooch that belonged to his mother. Because the pin needs replacing, he instructs Paula to keep it in her handbag, and then says rather out of context, “Don’t forget where you put it now Paula, I don’t want you losing it.” Paula remarks thinking the warning absurd, “Of course I won’t forget!” When they return from their walk, Gregory asks for the brooch, Paula searches in her handbag but it is not there.

It continues on like this, with Gregory giving warnings and reminders, seemingly to help Paula with her “forgetfulness” and “anxieties”. Paula starts to question her own judgement and sanity as these events become more and more frequent. She has no one else to talk to but Gregory, who is the only witness to these apparent mishaps. It gets to a point where completely nonsensical behaviour is being attributed to Paula by Gregory. A painting is found missing on the wall one night. Gregory talks to Paula like she is a 5 year child and asks her to put it back. Paula insists she does not know who took it down. After her persistent passionate insistence that it was not her, she walks up the stairs almost like she were in a dream state and pulls the painting from behind a statue. Gregory asks why she lied, but Paula insists that she only thought to look there because that is where it was found the last two times this occurred.

For weeks now, Paula thinks she has been seeing things, the gas lights of the house dimming for no reason, she also hears footsteps above her bedroom. No one else seems to take notice. Paula is also told by Gregory that he found out that her mother, who passed away when she was very young, had actually gone insane and died in an asylum.

Tech Billionaire Who ‘Helped Repair’ Jeffrey Epstein’s Reputation Gives $1.5 Million to Biden Super PAC

A tech billionaire who has previously apologized for “helping to repair” dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s reputation has donated $1.5 million to a super PAC supporting Joe Biden’s presidential run. The donor, LinkedIn founder and Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman, has been pouring money into the Unite the Country PAC — which spent millions in Iowa and Super Tuesday states. The super PAC took in $4.2 million in February, with a sizable chunk of it coming from Hoffman. They are currently running advertisements repeating two debunked claims about President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, the Free Beacon reports.

“Hoffman—the PAC’s largest donor with $1.5 million in contributions—acknowledged he had several interactions with Epstein. The billionaire tech mogul said he put Epstein in contact with others for fundraising purposes after the child molester had been charged with sex crimes. In August 2015, Hoffman invited Epstein and Joi Ito, the former director of MIT’s Media Lab, to dinner in California,” the Free Beacon report explains.

In an apology letter for aiding Epstein, Hoffman admitted that he “helped to repair his reputation and perpetuate injustice.” “Prior to these interactions, I was told by Joi that Epstein had cleared the MIT vetting process, which was the basis for my participation,” Hoffman said in an apology letter published by Axios last September. “My last interaction with Epstein was in 2015. Still, by agreeing to participate in any fundraising activity where Epstein was present, I helped to repair his reputation and perpetuate injustice.”

Hoffman has also apologized for funding a $750,000 disinformation campaign in Alabama targeting Roy Moore that aided his Democrat opponent, who narrowly won.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch on Thursday announced it received 180 pages of communications between former FBI CI chief Peter Strzok and his paramour former FBI lawyer Lisa Page that shows a one month gap between when Hillary Clinton’s emails were discovered on Anthony Weiner’s laptop and search warrant.

Via Judicial Watch:

On November 3, 2016, Strzok sends an email to Page with a “weiner timeline.” The document shows that on September 28, 2016, the Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC) of the New York Office of the FBI reported “potential MYE-related material,” referring to Midyear Exam, which was the code name of the FBI’s Clinton email investigation. The timeline shows that not until October 30, almost a month after the discovery, was a search warrant for the emails obtained:

I have to say that the Serbs have been fantastically naive to trust the very same people who bombed them, in total illegality, for 78 days, murdering scores of innocent civilians (including those murdered in the TV stantion). For example, the Serbs could have considered how the EU has been lying to Turkey, for decades. But no, the Serbian elites now seem to think that they will be able to fill their pockets with lucrative contracts with the EU.

US Forces Return Qayyara Air Base to Iraqi Control, Withdraw From Mosul Area

US forces in Iraq began their withdrawal from a key northern airfield on Thursday, returning Qayyara Air Base to Iraqi control.

With its two 11,000-foot runways capable of handling the largest American bombers and transports, Qayyara West Airfield, about 37 miles south of Mosul, played a key role in the fight against Daesh once it was recaptured from the pseudostate in 2016. Now, US forces have begun the process of leaving the air base, returning it to Iraqi control in a Thursday ceremony.

“As a result of the ISF’s [Iraqi Special Forces] success in their fight against [Daesh], and in conjunction with our partner forces and the Government of Iraq, CJTF-OIR will relocate and consolidate personnel and equipment from several Iraqi bases throughout 2020,” a Thursday statement by Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) reads.

The release did not mention how many troops were involved, but according to a fact sheet provided by the CJTF-OIR Public Affairs Office, there are approximately 800 people stationed on the base, Iraqi, US and French. France announced earlier this week that its 100 troops would be withdrawn from Iraq amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In all, there are 7,500 coalition troops in Iraq, 5,000 of which are American.

The statement notes that the departure includes a transfer of some $1.7 million in equipment to Iraqi forces, consisting mostly of everyday life support facilities like laundries and air compressors, but also communications equipment of unknown types.

US President Donald Trump declared Daesh defeated almost a year ago when its last sliver of territory was seized in eastern Syria, but the group has continued to exist underground, staging periodic attacks across Syria and Iraq and branching out into new franchises in Afghanistan and West Africa.

The coalition further notes it will “operate from fewer locations, but remains committed to supporting our partners in their fight against Daesh.”

“The ISF increasingly conducts independent operations in the fight against Daesh and the defense of their homeland including the ‘Heroes of Iraq’ Campaign and 2019’s ‘Will of Victory.’”

Interestingly, the statement also notes that “CJTF-OIR remains in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq.” Following a January airstrike that killed Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) deputy commander and Kataib Hezbollah founder Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis alongside Iranian Quds Force commander Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani outside Baghdad, Iraq’s parliament asked US forces to leave the country.

Washington refused, and huge protests as well as renewed militant attacks against US bases followed. The PMF were formed as part of the same fight against Daesh, which occupied the northern parts of Iraq in 2014 through 2017, and Soleimani led Iranian and Iraqi forces in that fight, so Iraqis were outraged at their assassinations as well.

Russian Defense Ministry Releases More Details On Its Anti-COVID-19 Operation In Italy’s Bergamo

On March 26, the Russian Defense Ministry published an official statement providing additional details on its anti-COVID-19 operation in Italy’s Bergamo.

“In the city of Bergamo, representatives of the Ministries of Defenсe of Russia and Italy, the Department of civil defense and the Agency for public health protection held consultations on the needs of local authorities in the fight against coronavirus infection.

The consultations identified priority tasks that local authorities rely on Russian military specialists who have arrived in Bergamo to solve.

First of all, Russian medical and nursing teams will be allocated for the treatment of patients in 65 local geriatric houses. They are now adapted by local authorities to isolate and help elderly people who have contracted a coronavirus infection.

Each of the 8 medical and nursing teams will be assigned to 7-9 nearby geriatric houses.

In addition, representatives of local authorities expressed a special demand for large-scale sanitary treatment and disinfection of all health facilities and urban infrastructure, especially transport.

During the meeting, the Russian side confirmed that all the forces and means that arrived in Bergamo will be used for emergency assistance to the city and Italian citizens.

Teams of Russian military specialists will begin practical tasks tomorrow, March 27,” the statement on its website reads.

The Russian military started its deployment in Italy on March 22. Since then, it has sent at least 15 IL-76 military transport aircraft with specialists (medics and viral agent defense experts) and medical equipment to the country. The estimated number of deployed equipment is about 50 pieces, while the number of the Russian personnel involved in the operation is over 500.

How the CIA Helped Disney Conquer Florida

"Starting in the mid-1960s when Disney set out to establish the Disney World Theme Park, they were determined to get land at below market prices and Disney operatives engaged in a far-ranging conspiracy to make sure sellers had no idea who was buying their Central Florida property. By resorting to such tactics Disney acquired more than 40 square miles of land for less than $200 an acre, but how to maintain control once Disney's empire had been acquired? The solution turned out to be cartoon-simple, thanks to the CIA.

Disney's key contact was the consummate cloak-and-dagger operator, William "Wild Bill" Donovan. Sometimes called the "Father of the C.I.A," he was also the founding partner of Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine, a New York law firm whose attorneys included future C.I.A. director William Casey. Donovan’s attorneys provided fake identities for Disney agents; they also set up a secret communications center, and orchestrated a disinformation campaign. In order to maintain "control over the overall development," Disney and his advisers realized, “the company would have to find a way to limit the voting power of the private residents" even though, they acknowledged, their efforts "violated the Equal Protection Clause" of the U.S. Constitution. Here again the CIA was there to help. Disney's principal legal strategist for Florida was a senior clandestine operative named Paul Helliwell. Having helped launch the C.I.A. secret war in Indochina, Helliwell relocated to Miami in 1960 in order to coordinate dirty tricks against Castro. At a secret "seminar" Disney convened in May 1965 Helliwell came up with the approach that to this day allows the Disney organization to avoid taxation and environmental regulation as well as maintain immunity from the U.S. Constitution. It was the same strategy the C.I.A. pursued in the foreign countries. Set up a puppet government; then use that regime to do your bidding.

Though no one lived there, Helliwell advised Disney to establish at least two phantom "cities,” then use these fake governments to control land use and make sure the public monies the theme park generated stayed in Disney's private hands. On paper Disney World's "cities" would be regular American home towns—except their only official residents would be the handful of hand-picked Disney loyalists who periodically "elected" the officials who, in turn, ceded complete control to Disney executives.

In early 1967, the Florida legislature created Hallowell’s two "cities,” both named for the artificial reservoirs Disney engineers created by obstructing the area's natural water flow. When you visit Disney's Magic Kingdom, you are visiting the City of Bay Lake, Florida. The other was the City of Lake Buena Vista. In both “cities,” in violation of both the U.S. and Florida Constitutions the Disney-engineered legislation established a property qualification for holding elective office, requiring that each candidate for office there "must be the owner, either directly or as a trustee, of real property situated in the City" in order "to be eligible to hold the office of councilman.""

Radio star Michael Savage was just named by President Donald Trump to be a member of the board of directors of the Presidio Trust, an organization committed to preserving one of San Francisco’s biggest tourist draws — the national park area located at the Golden Gate Bridge.

From humble beginnings to palling with the president.

“President Trump saw [my] environmental background and asked if I would like to serve on The Presidio Trust,” Savage said, in an emailed answer to questions. “I hope to help save this great legacy while also reminding the public of the military significance of this land.”

In a White House post, Savage was named — Michael A. Weiner, his official name — as “Member of the Board of Directors of the Presidio Trust for a term expiring May 4, 2023.”

It’s not that random an appointment for the radio legend.

For more than 40 years, Savage has been a champion of environmental preservation. Among his notable causes and actions: In 1975, he devised a regreen-America plan that led to the publication, “Plant a Tree: A Working Guide to Regreening America.” He earned a doctorate in 1978 in ethnobotanical research from the University of California — making him a recognized expert in the study of plants and their uses. Prior, he earned his master’s of science and arts degrees in anthropology and botany. His work, “The Secrets of Fijan Medicine” was published by the United Nations in 1983. And he earned the “Best Science Book Award for Children” in 1975 for his published account of “Man’s Useful Plants.”

That’s just a dip in the bucket of environmental accolades that Savage has received through the years.

“In conjunction,” a background sheet on Savage given by the White House stated, “Savage has been a generous donor to veterans, police organizations, animal and wildlife charities … [and] has regularly contributed towards wounded or fallen police officers and [to] the legal defense of Marines and service members.”

He helped reunite a wounded solider with his K-9 partner in 2014.

He established a scholarship program to promote traditional, core American values in 2015.

He authored dozens upon dozens of works related to health, medicine, aging, addictions, nature, herbs — and more.

And all that’s in addition to his research, study, analyses and writings on politics and culture.

And you thought Savage was simply a top-ranked legendary radio and podcast guy.

“Savage,” one Amazon description page on his “Savage Nation” book reads, “has worked as a factory worker, waiter, teacher, New York social worker, medicinal plant explorer and scientist.”

All after being raised in a home without a silver spoon.

Born on March 31, 1942, to parents who were immigrants, Savage has in the past recounted how his family was so poor, he had to wear pants his father brought him from his job at the morgue.

Those days are long gone.

From poor man to presidential appointee.

Or, as Savage put it in an email, “from wearing ‘dead man’s pants’ to saving even the ants.”

Specialists’ Initiative Saves Lives of All Coronavirus Patients in South-West Iran

“The innovative method of specialists at Taleqani hospital of Abadan on 30 coronavirus patients reduced to zero the death rate of patients in acute health conditions,” Deputy Head of Abadan University of Medical Sciences for Training and Research Sara Mobarak told FNA on Thursday.

She said that the new drug-based method was first tested on 5 patients hospitalized at an ICU ward which helped them recover and be moved to the general section, adding that in the second phase, the medicine was applied to 10 coronavirus patients in the ICU ward with low levels of consciousness.

The drugs showed desirable effects on the second group of the patients too and the level of their consciousness increased, Mobarak said.

She added that the drug combination has not been used in China or any other country before, noting that an essay about the results of the innovative application of the medicine on coronavirus patients in Iran will be released in scientific journals.

Also, last week, officials informed that Iranian researchers had discovered a medicinal compound which could treat the damage inflicted on lungs due to coronavirus infection.

“The new medicinal compound is not special to the coronavirus patients, but it treats respiratory and pulmonary diseases,” Chairman of the Biotechnology Development Council of Iran Mostafa Qaneyee said in a press conference.

He added that the new medicinal compound can decrease the time a coronavirus patient needs to stay at hospital to 4 days, noting that 40% of Iranian patients who received the combination of three drugs have been discharged from hospital in less than 4 days.

“In this treatment method, in addition to the protocols of the health ministry, the three drugs of Azithromycin, Prednisolone and Naproxen have been used as a compound,” Qaneyee said.

“We have observed that the compound rapidly decreases the CRP and the hospitalization period is reduced significantly and of course, this is the start of our research and we will inform you of other researches too after receiving license from the Coronavirus Campaign Headquarters,” he added.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting over 195 countries and territories around the world. The virus was first reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year. It has so far killed more than 21,300 people and infected over 472,000 others globally.

Iran reported on Wednesday that a total number of 2,077 coronavirus patients have died and 27,017 cases of infection have been identified in the country so far. Meanwhile, 9,625 people have also recovered.

The Iranian foreign ministry declared that despite Washington’s claims of cooperation to transfer drugs to Iran via the new Swiss-launched payment mechanism, the US is troubling the process amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Although US claims that medicines and medical equipment are not under sanctions, they have practically blocked the transfer of Iran’s financial resources in other countries into the Swiss Humanitarian Trade Arrangement (SHTA), Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said.

As the death toll from the virus surges, Iran intensifies its preventive safety measures. Closures of schools and universities have been extended until early April.

The government also imposed travel restrictions, specially on Iran’s north, which is among the red zones. The country has also adopted strict digital health control procedures at airports to spot possible infections.

Health Minister Saeed Namaki announced earlier this month that a new national mobilization plan would be implemented across the country to fight against the coronavirus epidemic and more effectively treat patients.

Namaki said that the plan will include all the 17,000 health centers and the 9,000 medical and clinical centers in all cities, suburban areas and villages.

He added that the plan will include home quarantine, noting that infected people will receive the necessary medicines and advice, but they are asked to stay at home.

PROVIDENCE – In a move without precedent in state history, Gov. Gina Raimondo on Thursday was to sign an executive order mandating that anyone entering Rhode Island from New York state by any means of ground transportation – passenger vehicle, bus or train – must provide personal information to authorities and self-quarantine for 14 days.

The order will be enforced by the state police and the National Guard, which already is screening people arriving at T.F. Green Airport from anywhere and requiring them to provide addresses, phone numbers and names of their family members.
