SECDEF Esperanon: U.S. Will ‘Keep Up the Pace’ of South China Sea Freedom of Navigation Operations..

KUALA LUMPUR – The U.S. will continue to keep up the pace of freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea, which hit an all-time high in 2019, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Tuesday.

Esper, speaking at an online event hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said the U.S. policy has always been backed up by its actions like FONOps and other presence operations. Last year marked “the greatest number of freedom of navigations operations in the South China Sea in the 40-year history of the FONOps program, and we will keep up the pace this year.”

The Navy conducted nine FONOps operations in the South China Sea in 2019. Six FONOps have been conducted in the South China Sea this year, starting with the Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery (LCS-8) in January, destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG-85) in March, cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) and destroyer USS Barry (DDG-52) in separate operations in April, destroyer USS Mustin (DDG-89) in May and destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG-114) in the latest operation on July 14.

Esper reiterated the United States government’s rejection of China’s maritime claims and that the new U.S. policy on the South China Sea “plainly states that our recognition of maritime claims is consistent with international law, favors the sovereign rights of Southeast Asian partners and rejects the PRC’s excessive and unlawful maritime claims that have been used to bully smaller countries from accessing offshore resources in their own Exclusive Economic Zones.”

Recent dual-carrier strike force exercises in the South China Sea have been a “clear and powerful signal” that the U.S. will operate wherever international law allows. Later on in the session, he challenged Chinese claims that the U.S. carriers were only allowed to operate in the South China Sea because the People’s Liberation Army allowed it to.

“I don’t know what the Chinese meant by that hollow statement about American carriers being there by the pleasure of the PLA. Look, American aircraft carriers have been in the South China Sea and the Indo Pacific since World War II, and we will continue to be there, and we’re not going to be stopped by anybody. We’re going to sail, fly and operate where international law allows,” he said, adding that the United States does so to assert international laws and rights and to support the sovereignty of its friends and partners and reassure them that the United States will be there in support of such.

Esper declined to answer what privately communicated red lines he would communicate to Beijing in relation to its maritime claims. He would only to state that the U.S. would defend international norms and rules and live up to its commitments that it has made in the Indo-Pacific. Esper added that the United States was committed to Taiwan and will continue to conduct arms sales to it and continue to conduct FONOps in the Taiwan Straits. He also stated, though, in the case of Taiwan and also the rest of the Indo-Pacific region, it was China that was aggravating the situation

Esper stated that the U.S. was not in search of a conflict but was committed to a constructive and result-orientated relationship with China in regard to the defense relationship, to open lines of communication and to reduce risk. But at the same time, the United States “firmly believe no single nation can or should dominate the public commons, and we will continue to work alongside our allies and partners to support a prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific for all.”

Black Portlander Changes His Mind About the Nightly Protests After He Attends One

A Portland resident who is black and lives downtown a block away from the Justice Center thought the nightly protests had been completely peaceful. Then he attended one and had a rude awakening.

Gabe Johnson, a 48-year-old black man who served in the Marines, now says that Portland police should use any means necessary, including force, to sweep the riots off the streets and end the nightly violence.

In an interview with PJ Media, Johnson said he considers himself a patriotic American, and that the United States flag should be a symbol of unity for all Americans. He laments how some have turned it into a symbol of racism and division, especially in Portland.

Last Saturday night and into Sunday morning, Johnson says he was in bed trying to sleep, but the noise kept him awake. He counted 82 explosions disturbing his sleep. Then, with his air conditioning running and bringing in air from outside through the vents, he was suddenly immersed in tear gas from the street below. That’s when he decided to take action.

“You know, so I literally stood up and just yelled,” Johnson said in the interview. “‘Oh my God,’ I actually yelled. ‘Oh my effing God.’ It was just like somebody has to do something. I don’t know what that something is. I didn’t at that time, but I knew something had to be done and I figured I would just sleep on it.”

The next day he went down around noon to the ongoing protests in front of the Justice Center to hang a couple of American flags on the fence and start a dialogue with some of the protesters.

“When I woke up in the morning,” Johnson said, “it was clear as day, almost like it was just planted in my head. This is what you’re going to do. Hopefully we can start a conversation. Here we are now we are starting this conversation. But I can tell you the experience was eye-opening. I did not believe what I used to call the rhetoric about antifa. I was thinking that maybe they’re just, you know, some punk kids or whatever it was, some righteous anger in there. I quickly found out that that’s not the case.”

Having worked for the State Department after an eight-year career in the Marines, Johnson has done a lot of duty overseas. He says the antifa rioters in Portland use the same tactics he’s witnessed from terrorists. “They’re utilizing the same tactics that any other terrorist organization would,” Johnson said. “They’ve got spotters with cameras that will follow you around, and they’ve got their thugs. Those are the guys with the baseball bats. They have people that will intimidate you in Black Lives Matter attire.”

Johnson says his goal was to try to convince Portland protesters to stop tearing America apart, and to start bringing it together. “What is more patriotic than our flag?” he said. “What will really just be in your face, America? This is America, right? I wanted to have a conversation so that they would understand that what they’re doing is tearing the country apart and not bringing it back together, and hopefully by telling this community that we live in it’s time to start a conversation and it’s time to unite America. Because the Black Lives Matter movement has turned into something else. Antifa has attached itself to this movement now and it’s taken it over.”

It’s important to note that Johnson is no fan of Donald Trump, and is not a conservative. He considers himself a moderate. He also considers himself a patriot who is tired of watching America come apart at the seams. When he went to the protest, he did not encounter other patriots, but he did encounter protesters who aren’t from Portland.

“It’s beyond me how they can sit there and say that they’re not causing damage or rioting,” he said. “It’s a riot, and it’s real, and when you are on the front line and you’re looking back into that crowd, it is an angry mob that is built on doing as much destruction as possible.”

When he went down to the protest with his flags, Johnson expected to talk to people. He didn’t expect to be assaulted. Several people stole his flags and stomped them on the ground. One older black man, around 65 years old, grabbed one of the flags and handed it back to Johnson. A protester promptly punched the man in the face and ran off.

Reminder: This all took place in broad daylight, not at a late-night riot.

Johnson says protesters called him a coon, Uncle Tom, and the n-word—”with the -ER, not -a.” He has done several interviews this week because he wants the world to know that when leaders say that the federal law enforcement officers have caused the riots, and that the protests are largely peaceful, that’s a lie.

Oprah Winfrey's Magazine to Cease Regular Print Publication (Report)

News of the famed women's magazine coming to an end follows Hearst Magazine's president Troy Young recent resignation.

Oprah Winfrey's monthly magazine will cease printing after its December 2020 issue, according to a report by Business of Fashion.

The staff of O: The Oprah Magazine, which was founded by Winfrey and Hearst Communications, was informed of the decision on Friday.

News of the famed women's magazine coming to an end follows criticism for the Hearst Magazines division, which publishes Good Housekeeping, Harper's Bazaar and Elle among others. A recent report by the New York Times included employees describing its toxic environment as well as sexually offensive remarks by former president Troy Young, who resigned Thursday.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to representatives for Winfrey and Hearst for comment.

As of 2020, the average paid circulation for the magazine was 2.2 million copies and a print audience of 10 million.

Car drives through crowd, protester shot in Colorado

AURORA, Colo. (AP) u2014 A car drove through a crowd and a protester was shot in the suburban Denver suburb of Aurora during demonstrations against racial injustice.

The Aurora Police Department said on Twitter that protesters were walking on Interstate 225 Saturday when a vehicle drove through.

Police said a protester fired a weapon, striking at least one person who was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Authorities said the vehicle was towed and they are investigating. Protesters also broke windows to the courthouse and a fire was started in an office, police said. An unlawful assembly was declared and police ordered protesters to leave the area, authorities said.

Tensions have been heightened at recent protests against racial injustice since federal officials were sent to quell demonstrations in Portland, Oregon. Police declared a riot in Seattle on Saturday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un convened an emergency politburo meeting after a person suspected of having COVID-19 returned from South Korea after illegally crossing the border this month, state media said on Sunday.

If confirmed, it would be the first case officially acknowledged by North Korean authorities, who have so far said the country has no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. Kim declared a state of emergency and imposed a lockdown on the border city of Kaesong, calling it a "critical situation in which the vicious virus could be said to have entered the country," state news agency KCNA reported. According to KCNA, a person who defected to South Korea three years ago returned across the fortified border that divides the two Koreas with symptoms that suggested COVID-19.

"An emergency event happened in Kaesong City where a runaway who went to the south three years ago, a person who is suspected to have been infected with the vicious virus returned on July 19 after illegally crossing the demarcation line," KCNA said. KCNA did not specifically mention whether the individual had been tested, but said an "uncertain result was made from several medical checkups of the secretion of that person's upper respiratory organ and blood," prompting officials to quarantine the person and investigate anyone he may have been in contact with.

North Korea has received thousands of coronavirus testing kits from Russia and other countries, and imposed strict border closures. Thousands of people in North Korea were quarantined, but restrictions had recently eased. In recent weeks, North Korea has also stepped up a campaign criticizing defectors to South Korea as "human scum" and calling for South Korea to crack down on groups that send propaganda messages and food aid into the North. Kim ordered an investigation into the military units along the border where the person was suspected of crossing to "administer a severe punishment and take necessary measures."

Nancy Pelosi Has a Mental Breakdown on Camera, Starts Yelling ‘No’ at Reporter Over and Over

Nancy Pelosi is not well. The more I watch her on camera, the more I’m convinced of that. Whether it’s her incessant sucking on her teeth, the weird slurring of her words she often slips into, or instances like I’m about to share, this is a person who’s mentally not capable of doing her job anymore.

Today, Pelosi lost it when a reporter asked her about not trying to play social justice warrior with the latest coronavirus relief package.

At first, we see her on screen becoming very animated over being questioned on attempting to shove vote by mail and other “justice” (her words) related issues into the relief bill. Americans are hurting right now and need financial relief, and all Pelosi cares about is getting her pet projects done. It’s disgusting in its own right. Of course, her usage of the word “justice” is purposeful. It’s like a get out of jail free card for Democrats. As long as she says she’s fighting for “justice,” she can do whatever she wants and say whatever she wants, even if it means holding up a bill to save desperate Americans from financial ruin.

Regardless, it’s after Pelosi leaves the podium where things really get weird. You hear the reporter ask her a followup and she absolutely loses it. She starts to yell “no” at the reporter and then like a child not getting their way, begins to rapidly scream “no, no, no, no, no.” This is all happening just out of the camera’s line of sight as another House member attempts to talk. The awkwardness is hard to overstate.

This is the kind of berating of a reporter that a Republican could never get away with. Remember when Martha McSally had the audacity to call a CNN reporter a hack? That was a week’s news cycle culminating in multiple angry letters from various outlets and organizations decrying it as an attack on the press. Pelosi can shout down a reporter and berate her and it’s no big deal, though. You won’t see the media sleuths at CNN cover this because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

The internet, that global interconnection of networks, routers and protocols flinging data around the planet, has touched almost every aspect of our lives. It is, arguably, the greatest invention of the 20th century. Unfortunately, it's also a flawed one. The existence of a $173 billion (u00a3135 billion) cybersecurity industry highlights the scale of the data protection and privacy issues that consumers, business and governments face when using the internet. But what if there was a 21st-century alternative that promised to secure the movement of data more completely than ever before? What if there was a quantum internet that came with a promise of being virtually unhackable? That's precisely what the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has said is to be built to usher in "a new era of communications" and push the U.S. to the "forefront of the global quantum race." What's more, the DOE announced during a July 23 press conference, a working prototype is expected to be completed within the next ten years. I'll return to the unhackable claim shortly, but first, let's examine just what this quantum internet blueprint involves.

A strategic blueprint for the development of a quantum internet The DOE press conference was held at the University of Chicago and revealed the details of a meeting between DOE national laboratories, universities, and businesses in February, where the plan to build a quantum internet was hammered out. Emerging from the National Quantum Initiative Act that President Trump signed in December 2018, the participants prepared the strategic ground for a national internet built around the principles of quantum mechanics. Already in the early stages of development, the DOE hopes that the quantum internet will have a "profound impact on areas critical to science, industry, and national security." As such, it is not intended as a direct replacement for the internet as we know it. Instead, it would run in parallel as a supplementary network for the banking and health industries as well as serving the national security interest. The full report blueprint, "From Long-distance Entanglement to Building a Nationwide Quantum Internet," covers all the critical objectives from building and integrating quantum network devices through to expanding the network between cities and ultimately states.

Scientists from the DOE Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois, along with those from the University of Chicago, have already created a 52-mile "quantum loop" in the Chicago suburbs. The next step will be to add the DOE Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois to establish an 80-mile testbed. All 17 DOE National Laboratories will eventually be connected to form the quantum internet backbone, with this working prototype expected to be up and running within a decade. "The Department of Energy is proud to play an instrumental role in the development of the national quantum internet," the U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dan Brouillette, said. However, as the Washington Post reported, the United States is far from alone in developing quantum networks, with China being the most significant rival. A 1,263-mile quantum link exists between Beijing and Shanghai, dwarfing the U.S. efforts so far.

Nothing, not even a so-called quantum internet, is unhackable Paul Dabbar, U.S. Under Secretary for Science, said that the quantum internet brings the country "one step closer to a completely secure internet." As someone who has been involved in the business of online security for three decades, starting around the same time that the term cybersecurity was coined in 1989, Dabbar's last three words make me shudder. There is no such thing as completely secure. A brand new and unboxed computer might have had malware installed somewhere along the supply chain, and the operating system will likely have vulnerabilities. Until you open the box, it is effectively Schrodinger's computer: secure and insecure simultaneously.

FORT CARSON, Colorado – Command Sgt. Maj. Kelly M. Hart assumed responsibility as the 1st Space Brigade’s new command sergeant major in a ceremony at Founder’s Field, July 24.

The 1st Space Brigade, the Army’s only Space Brigade, welcomed Hart after the departure of Command Sgt. Maj. Robert E. Bell, who was in the position for two years.

“First and foremost, I’m excited and humbled for the opportunity to lead 1st Space Brigade as the CSM,” said Hart. “One thing that the Soldiers will get used to is I’m at the point of friction, because I’ve always been told and I’ve always realized that leadership is a contact sport, and whatever I can do to help benefit the entirety of the brigade is where I’m going to be.”

Hart is no stranger to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, nor Fort Carson. He was the first sergeant for the 1st Space Company from 2014 to 2016, and the 1st Space Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company first sergeant, 2016-2017. His most recent assignment was command sergeant major of the 5-5 Air Defense Artillery Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Dating back to 1967, the command sergeant major – the U.S. Army’s highest enlisted rank (E-9) - carries out policies and standards, and advises the commander on the performance, training, appearance and conduct of enlisted Soldiers according to AR-614-200, Enlisted Assignments and Utilization Management.

“It is a huge mission with a huge amount of responsibility,” said Hart. “And if it’s not for the warfighters who take part in 24/7 ops around the world with the adversarial threats that face them, we could put our allies and friends in harm’s way.”

Col. Brian C. Bolio, the new commander of 1st Space Brigade, gave Hart high praise at the ceremony and said he was excited to have him serve under his command.

“I couldn’t have picked a better choice if they let me,” said Bolio in his speech during the ceremony. “You (Hart) are exactly the right forward-thinking leader at the right time to inspire, enable and empower the space professionals in this brigade to look to the horizon.”

Bolio and Hart both unknowingly served with each other in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment 20 years ago, then knowingly in the 1st Space Brigade years later.

“The brigade here has welcomed me back with open arms,” said Hart. “This is now my third time in Colorado, and it’s my second home.”

Hart, age 43, hails from McConnelsville, Ohio, and has been in the Army since 1996. He has five overseas deployments under his belt and is a recipient of the Bronze Star. Hart is the 10th command sergeant major of the 1st Space Brigade.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, Hart’s Assumption of Responsibility was livestreamed to hundreds of viewers who watched worldwide.

In Ukraine, four soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died after they were injected with a coronavirus vaccine developed by American specialists. This was announced by the representative of the press service of the People's Militia Department of the self-proclaimed LPR, Alexander Mazeikin.

According to him, the drug is being tested in the Kharkov region. There are 15 volunteers, in particular, ten of them are infected with COVID-19.

The drug was created by the American biotechnology company Moderna. During clinical trials, patients received two doses of a potential vaccine, all volunteers developed antibodies. The trials involved 45 healthy people aged 18 to 55 years. It is clarified that each of the three groups received mRNA-1273 vaccine in different dosages twice with an interval of 28 days.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A Naval Academy midshipman was found guilty of sexually violating three female classmates in 2018 and 2019.

Midshipman Third Class Nixon Keago was found guilty Wednesday of two counts of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, burglary and obstruction of justice, The Capital Gazette reported.

Why Twitter and Facebook’s attempts to deal with a growing ‘omniconspiracy’ can’t work without coordinated efforts across the online platforms.

"Twitter is perfect as a megaphone for the far right: its trending topics are easy to game, journalists spend way too much time on the site, and—if you’re lucky—the President of the United States might retweet you.

QAnon, the continuously evolving pro-Trump conspiracy theory, is good at Twitter in the same way as other successful internet-native ideologies—using the platform to manipulate information, attention and distribution all at the same time. On Tuesday, Twitter took a step aimed at limiting how successful QAnon can be there, including taking down about 7,000 accounts that promote the conspiracy, designating QAnon as “coordinated harmful activity,” and preventing related terms from showing up in trending and search results.

“We will permanently suspend accounts Tweeting about these topics that we know are engaged in violations of our multi-account policy, coordinating abuse around individual victims, or are attempting to evade a previous suspension,” Twitter announced. The company added that they’d seen an increase in those activities in recent weeks.

The New York Times reported that Facebook was planning to "take similar steps to limit the reach of QAnon content on its platform" next month, citing two employees of the company who spoke anonymously. On Friday, TikTok blocked several hashtags related to QAnon from search results.

This most recent push to limit QAnon's reach follows two high-profile campaigns driven by QAnon. First American model and celebrity Chrissy Teigen, who has more than 13 million followers on Twitter, was the target of an intense harassment campaign, then more recently, QAnon accounts were instrumental in spreading a bogus human trafficking conspiracy theory about the furniture marketplace Wayfair. The claims spread from Twitter's trending bar to Instagram and TikTok accounts promoting the conspiracy theory to their followers."

Roundup cancer attorney pleads guilty to extortion attempt

A Virginia lawyer who helped represent the first Roundup cancer plaintiff to take Monsanto to trial pleaded guilty on Friday to trying to extort $200 million from a chemical compound supplier to Monsanto.

Timothy Litzenburg, 38, admitted to a scheme in which he and another lawyer threatened to inflict substantial “financial and reputational harm” on the supplier unless that company paid the two attorneys $200 million disguised as a “consulting agreement.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Litzenburg allegedly told the company that if they paid the money, he was willing to “take a dive” during a deposition, intentionally undermining the prospects for future plaintiffs to try to sue.

Litzenburg was charged with one count each of attempted extortion, conspiracy and transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort. He pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate communications with the intent to extort.

Lawyer Daniel Kincheloe, 41, pleaded guilty to the same charge for participating in the scheme. The men are scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

“This is a case where two attorneys blew well past the line of aggressive advocacy and crossed deep into the territory of illegal extortion, in a brazen attempt to enrich themselves by extracting millions of dollars from a multinational company,” Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski said in a statement. He said that the plea shows that “when crimes are committed, members of the bar, like all members of the public, will be held accountable for their actions.”

Litzenburg was one of the attorneys for Dewayne “Lee” Johnson leading up to Johnson’s 2018 trial against Monsanto, which resulted in a $289 million jury award in Johnson’s favor. (The judge in the case lowered the verdict and the case is currently under appeal.)

The trial was the first of three that have taken place against Monsanto over allegations that the company’s glyphosate-based herbicides such as Roundup cause non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Monsanto, and its German owner Bayer AG, have lost all three trials to date but are appealing the verdicts.

Though Litzenburg had helped prepare Johnson for trial, he was not allowed to participate during the actual event because of concerns about his behavior held by The Miller Firm, which was his employer at the time.

The Miller firm subsequently fired Litzenburg and filed a lawsuit in early 2019 alleging Litzenburg engaged in self-dealing, and “disloyal and erratic conduct.” Litzenburg responded with a counter-claim. The parties negotiated a confidential settlement.

The criminal complaint against Litzenburg did not name the company Litzenburg tried to extort, but said that he contacted the company in September of 2019 year stating that he was preparing a lawsuit that would allege the company supplied chemical compounds used by Monsanto to create Roundup and that the company knew the ingredients were carcinogenic but had failed to warn the public.

According to the federal charges, Litzenburg told a lawyer for the company he was trying to extort that the company should enter into a “consulting arrangement” with him so as to create a conflict of interest that would prevent him from filing the threatened litigation.

The situation in Iraq has been worsening in recent months, with more attacks taking place every week. One of the last ones occurred on 19 July, when two rockets fell near the US Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone, where diplomatic missions are located.

Explosions have hit a military compound in southern Baghdad, Iraq, a statement from the armed forces said. According to Reuters, citing security sources, the military base, where multiple explosions took place, is used as an ammunition depot by the Iraqi police and military.

AUSTIN, Texas &ndash; A Facebook Live broadcast of a protest march through downtown Austin late Saturday night captured the sound of multiple gunshots going off and people running in a panic.

One man died in the gunfire when he approached a vehicle, according to Austin police. "Good Morning America" identified the victim as Garrett Foster.

The video, taken by journalist Hiram Gilberto, shows the march entering an intersection before some sort of commotion takes place in the middle of the crowd. Then, at least five shots are heard in quick succession.

A witness told the Austin American-Statesman that a driver honked and sped toward protesters before opening fire. Foster was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Foster was carrying a rifle, according to one witness. He approached the vehicle and was shot by the driver. The driver then drove away, witnesses said.

"GMA" spoke to Garrett's mother, Sheila Foster, who has a different account of what happened.

She said he had attended many peaceful protests with his fiancee Whitney Mitchell, a quadruple amputee. Sheila Foster said her son was pushing Mitchell's wheelchair moments before the shooting.

"And this gentleman got out of his car and started firing shots, and my son was shot three times," she said.

Austin police spokesperson Katrina Ratliff told reporters a suspect was detained and was cooperating with police.

Anti-police protesters showed up to DHS Secretary Chad Wolf’s home in Alexandria, Virginia on Sunday morning.

The left-wing protesters called for defunding police and DHS.

According to Daily Caller reporter Henry Rodgers, Secretary Wolf and his family were not inside and the Secret Service were standing guard.

Police guided the protesters through the streets of Alexandria but claimed to the Daily Caller that they did not have a permit.

Yes America, there is voter fraud. These recent cases prove it.

From Frank Sinatra's hometown in Hoboken, N.J., to LA's Skid Row, dozens of mail-in, absentee and ballot box fraud cases have emerged.

Many news media, political activists and social media giants have gotten on the bandwagon that voter fraud is fiction. It is not.

A review of court cases and recent indictments – including one this week in Philadelphia against a former congressman – finds there have been at least four dozen cases in criminal and civil court since the last presidential election in 2016 in which voter fraud has led to charges, convictions, lawsuits or plea deals.

The schemes have ranged from old fashion ballot box stuffing to absentee and mail-in ballot fraud.

Here are a dozen of the more egregious examples.

Philly Fraud Case Expands

The U.S. Justice Department this past week charged former Democratic congressman Michael Myers with stuffing ballot boxes, bribing an elected official, falsifying records, obstructing justice and voting multiple times in federal elections in Philadelphia.

Myers was the second official charged in the scheme.

Domenick DeMuro, a Democratic ward chairman in that city, admitted in a plea deal that he had "fraudulently stuffed the ballot box by literally standing in a voting booth and voting over and over, as fast as he could, while he thought the coast was clear," ptoecutors said.

DeMuro allegedly had a network of clients who paid him significant sums of money to rig elections over several years.

New Jersey mail-in ballot scheme exposed

Four New Jersey residents, including one city council member and one city councilmen-elect in Patterson, N.J., were charged last month in what state officials was a mail-in ballot fraud scheme. The four were charged with multiple crimes including voting fraud, tampering with public records and unauthorized possession of multiple vote-by-mail ballots.

West Virginia mail carrier nabbed in mail-in ballot scheme

A mail carrier in Pendleton County, W.V., recently admitted to investigators that he altered mail-in voting ballot documents. The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of West Virginia said in a press release in June that it was charging Thomas Cooper, a worker with the U.S. Postal Service, with "attempted election fraud."

An affidavit supplied by that office to Just the News states the Pendleton County Clerk received several absentee mail-in ballot requests "in which the voter’s party-ballot request appeared to have been altered by use of a black-ink pen." On five of the requests, "it appeared that the voters ballot choice was changed from Democrat to Republican
