I still haven't seen otters in the wild but I've had some pretty unusual experiences last summer.

In August I spent a weekend in Flevoland, in the Netherlands, and visited a nature park with otters in it. I believe it's a kind of animal sanctuary. They take care of injured wildlife and build ecoducts to enable wildlife to safely get to the other side of the road.

In September I went to Japan. It was a group trip through Honshu and Hokkaido. I was really hoping to see some sea otters on the Hokkaido coast but unfortunately we didn't go very far through the island but I did see an otter in Sapporo zoo. But by far the most unusual experience was in Tokyo. I saw the Japanese word for otter on a sign and decided to take a look. Soon I ended up in a room with a family of Asian small clawed otters roaming around and I could even pet them! I had touched otters' hands before but this was the first time I petted their furry bodies.

The special day is only three months away! This year's World Otter Day will be on May 27th.

Like last year, we're gonna celebrate with a nice otter-themed stream at cytu.be/r/ottercine. Last year we watched Ring of Bright Water and Tarka the Otter, this year is still open to suggestions. Otter 501 seems like a decent film, it's about a baby sea otter being rescued.

Have you got anything planned yet, otters?

Now that Sarazanmai has finished and Kawauso Labo may also end soon, I was wondering if there are any other otter anime coming up. At least we still have Gegege no Kitaro but Kawauso doesn't appear as often in it as in the 2007 version. Oh and there is still Bonobono but strangely it hasn't been subtitled for a while.

>Who is the arbiter of who or what is wanted or needed here?

The rules and nothing but the rules. Otter love can certainly be expressed in many ways and /otter/ should not exclude any of them, except of course immoral ones such as zoophilia.

What is meant by /otter/ not being a furry board is that it isn't exclusively one. Whatever content isn't against the rules should be allowed on /otter/. I wouldn't like it if we started enforcing unwritten rules, that stuff can ruin a board.

>many people can relate to them more than just a regular otter character

But part of the appeal of otters is that they are unlike us humans. Yes, mixing up a human with an otter makes the human better, but it also makes the otter worse.

>>1038

Furry stuff should be allowed but there should always be a preference of discussion relating to otter: the animal over otter-related artwork and such. If we ended up with a catalog full of furry otter threads, which are technically not against the rules, then we would have a problem. Maybe ask yourself before posting something, "could I post this on /fur/ or some other board instead?" If the answer is yes, then it's probably not really /otter/ material.

Being an otter fan is not for everyone; you must have a certain level of intelligence and perfomance level of the brain; otter fans have heightened logical thinking and analysis skills which allows them to sea otters as the noble creatures that they are.

The soul of the otter fan is a happy soul, for in contrast to the plebeian soul it is nourished by the love of otters. Hence it enjoys a closer connection to God, being ever thankful to the wise Creator for giving us the beautiful gift of otters.

Plebeians are not likely to become otter fans, as they simply do not have the capacity to handle otters in their brains. If you have passed the test and find yourself here, as one of us: Congratulations. It is certainly a great privilege to be here and to be able to love otters this much.

The otters we know will come and go, they're neither the first nor the last. There've already been plenty of different otter species, and whenever one otter went extinct a new otter soon followed in its tracks.

I mean, of course they're technically not otters, but you can't look at those pics and tell me those aren't otters.
